Big thanks to @kiddysart for drawing my magical girl OCs Rose and Holly!

I've been working on their story for almost two years now--just one of those things I do when I'm not focusing on the other things I'm writing--so I thought it'd be about time to commission art of them. I tried my best to give references for their outfits that didn't rely too much on other, pre-existing magical girls. The shiny, armored bits are definitely inspired by me reading and watching Saint Seiya, though.

A common comment re: magical girl weaponry is that they often look toyetic. In my commission, I used the words "ornate"/"ceremonial" in my description, a thing I got from reading the art book for WETA's Narnia films (they used those words to describe their aesthetic for the children's weapons there; mostly to downplay the darker aspects of children wielding weapons). I really like how they turned out!

In a case of "write what you know," both girls have connections to the Philippines. Rose is fully Filipino (like me), while Holly is half-white (similar to many friends I have). I listen to music while writing and came up with songs to associate with them. Rose's is "Where Is My Mind? (Pixies Cover)" by Tkay Maidza; Holly's is "Swooner" by The Zolas.

I have lots of thoughts about these two; I'll go into more detail about them in the future.

Sharing some artwork I commissioned from @kiddysart! They're of my ocs: Nicoe and Remi (and the bear cub familiar, Boots)!

I love this so much, it makes me so happy ;_; Why spend money on gacha girls when you can spend money on your ocs?

I highly recommend working with kiddysart if you're interested in getting a commission! They're very professional: they communicate frequently, were flexible and very forgiving (especially with Remi's design which wasn't as fleshed out), come up with AMAZING poses, and accomplished everything within a month! I'm going to get these printed, framed, and hung above my bed. I can't get over how much I love how they look ;_;

My OC Erina as drawn in both her civilian and magical girl forms! You can read more about her here. Much like her appearance suggests, Erina epitomizes the stereotypical magical girl heroine: filled with hope, love, and an infectious energy that lights up the lives of those around her. She wields powers over light and love.

However, she was far more withdrawn and troubled before becoming a magical girl, thanks to growing up as an orphan in the foster care system; she views her magical girl awakening as a "rebirth" and feels obligated to inspire hope in others. She is self-sacrificing to a fault, and much of that is tied back to her low sense of self-worth. It also doesn't help that she's the focal point of a mage cult who believe she's the foretold messiah who will end the suffering of mages (who, in my paracosm/OC world, are part of an exploitative system much like the one in PMMM).

Despite her rising fame and the expectations that come with it, Erina remains grounded and humble. Her heart yearns for a simple life with her friends and loved ones. However, as the challenges in her world grow more dire and the suffering of her fellow mages becomes more pronounced, Erina finds herself at a crossroads. She grapples with the pressure to fully embrace the messiah role, wrestling with her desire for normalcy against her newfound responsibilities.

I could honestly write 15 more paragraphs about Erina (and my other OCs for that matter lol), but I'll stop here. Erina is very dear to me, being the first OC I came up with back in 2016.

In her journey, she discovers a place to call home and someone to call partner, but fate is not always so kind. An event will make her go away faster than she ever experienced, or that she has memory of. "Saaya? She's a sweet girl, who met the wrong people. I love how adventurous and ongoing she became, but I only ask for her happiness.", explained the Captain of The Crux, a dear friend. Amare Morita is the oldest Magia Record OC I have. She’s a magical girl from the Land of Oz (yes, like the books). Her main weapons are her chains and a sword (see image). She can be rather gloomy due to stuff that happened during the Magical Girl Civil War back home, but she tries to move on as best as she can. She currently lives in Mikazuki Villa and likes grilled cheese.

No promises as to which OCs I will or won’t draw (probably depends on if anyone submits anything) but if you have a meguca you made feel free to show me their design and a short description of personality (for expression and posing), and I’ll try and whip up something fun, even if it’s just a sketch :3
