Khan meld hazy psychedelia and heavy stoner riffs with a penchant for progressive rhythms and almost dirge-like, industrial-scale crescendos. The songs are lyrically evocative, exuding a sense of despondency and melancholy. Vocally, their songs waver from ethereal falsetto and hypnotic crooning to impassioned wailing punctuated by occasional guttural screams. They first came into being in 2016, when three friends took up a joint residency on the outskirts of Melbourne. From there it wasn’t long before they released their ‘On Silent Space’ EP, which was in essence a brief, alt-rock journey, tinged with psychedelic nuances, perhaps giving us a glimpse of things to come. Their debut album ‘Vale’ followed in 2018. In contrast to ‘On Silent Space’, ‘Vale’ was a far grander and more expansive project that permitted the band to explore many of the outer reaches of heavy psychedelia and progressive rock, which created waves that reverberated through the underground around the world. The ripples were felt by the organizers of Progfest who invited the band to perform at the 2019 festival in Melbourne alongside The Ocean (GER), Monuments (UK) and Skyharbor (IND). In what promised to be a particularly big year, 2020 began with performances supporting Yawning Man (USA) and Beastwars (NZ) plus the announcement of Khan’s first international tour in Europe. While the pandemic crushed any hopes of the tour going ahead, it also paved the way for the unplanned release of their second album 'Monsoons', a fully instrumental odyssey delving into jam-based and post rock experimentation. The ongoing lockdowns also led to the unexpected opportunity to headline the virtual edition of Indian festival Strawberry Fields XXIV. As soon as the world began to open up again in 2022, Khan quickly launched into their much-anticipated 22 - date tour of Australia, Europe and the UK, which included performances at Esbjerg Fuzztival in Denmark with Truckfighters (SWE) and Kuba Open Air in Germany with Villagers of Ioannina City (GRC). Khan's third album 'Creatures' was released in February 2023 through Full Contact Safari Records. It is their heaviest, darkest and most dynamic album to date. Their Australian tour will include performances at Spliffs N Riffs festival in Perth, Sun Burn festival in Canberra and Nowhere Festival in Brisbane......~

Does anyone know the official shipnames for these rarepairs?

I know Spirit Halloween is Danny/Bruce and I think J'onn/Bruce was MartianBat(correct me if I'm wrong tho) but I don't think I've run into the shipnames for the others.

Also, According to the >2000 fic thing I put above, Talia/Bruce, Minhkhoa/Bruce(ghostbat?) and BatLantern are rarepairs. According to the "less than half the amount of fics as the main ship" thing, BatCat is also a rarepair. BUT that's only if you compare it to DC fanfics as a whole. If you compare BatCat to the most popular pairing in ONLY the Batman fandom (excluding all other DC content), it's probably the third most popular pairing. So use your own digression and follow your heart on whether a pairing is actually a rarepair or not.

I decided to only put pairings that had less than 500 fics on ao3 in the poll because it narrowed down which pairings I had heard of to put into the poll.

Of course, whether a ship qualifies as a rarepair or not depends on how big the fandom is. So, if your Bruce ship has less than 2000 fics on ao3, it's probably a rarepair. Crossover ships have lower fic count maximums to count as a rarepair depending on the crossover. So compare your crossover fandom's main ship with your ship and if your ship has less than half the amount of fics as the main ship does, then it's probably a rarepair. (this is just my rule of thumb for determining if a ship is a rarepair or not and might not be true if the fandom's main ship has only 10-20 fics)

Podcast Elections: ACAB Edition

*There is no lesser evil when the institution itself exists to exploit, oppress, and enact violence. I refuse to vote in this race, but I will vote in other races on the ballot.

Elections are coming up in the USA. I'm used to voting about twice a year, and understand how few measures and candidates are truly exciting to vote for. There's a lot of maintenance (renewing bonds and levies, voting against limitations to abortions, etc). Most candidates have significant flaws and even the ones who seem promising will probably fail to meet their campaign promises. It's boring but important. To me it seems that the dramatic races and measures are usually more threatening (so we vote against it) then promising (so we vote for it). City Council, County Chair, School Board, Water District, Library Board, and so on are all highly important, but candidates' platforms can be opaque, or there can genuinely be no good options. But if we want clean water, good education, freedom to read, an attempt at affordable housing, etc., then we need to care about these positions.

But then there's the elections that never feel good. The elections for who gets to lead the people we allow to murder with little consequence. The people in charge of institutions that I would rather be destroyed. Obviously there's the big one, but frankly due to the electoral college, the state I live in, and partisan races usually coming down to Party over Policy, voting in that election feels incredibly ineffective (but I do it anyways).

Another institution I don't like voting for is the County Sheriff, but at least my vote feels more influential here. As this is a nonpartisan position, this will be a runoff election. That means if no candidate gets greater than 50% of the vote we will hold another race between the top two candidates the following week.

Dark Au: Can we get some Adam and/or Illa in the Au. We talked about them before and they aren't major players yet. But I would like a quick view in on them.

Ghira tapped on his desk as he read through the letters he'd received. Tragedy or no, he had an image to uphold to his community. To the people of the island, he was Ghira Belladonna, the Chieftain of Menagerie, and his people needed him to be strong. But as more and more calls for action came in, for some response to the death of his daughter, he found that his strength was failing him and so too would his composure in the public eye. If allowed, the White Fang would be able to remove him from his position, replacing him as the Chieftain for someone more attuned to the goals of the White Fang, or worse, Adam as Chieftain.

"Ghira?" He looked away from the letters, his heart breaking again at the sight of his once beautiful wife. Kali was still in her bed clothes from days ago, clutching to Blake's baby book. If it weren't for the water-proof pages, the book may have been ruined by now from the sheer amount of crying the woman holding it had done inside. "Have you heard anything from Beacon?"

"No." Ghira sighed and shook his head. "I'm starting to think they're holding my mail from me."

"They wouldn't do that, Ghira." She said, taking a bit of an aggressive step to her husband. "The people love you!"

"Some of them do." He rubbed his eyes. "But not everyone agrees with me. The White Fang-"

"Are not in Menagerie!" She shouted.

"Yes, they are!" He smashed his fist into the desk, making his wife flinch and yelp. His wrath swiftly subsided to passive tenderness, his fist quickly loosing into an outstretched hand seeking to calm his beloved. "I'm... I'm sorry." He had to restrain his voice. He'd already lost one woman to his anger, and now she... she was never coming home at this rate. "I didn't mean to yell at you."

Kali was silent for a moment, though she took soft-footed steps to him. When she was in front of him, she set the baby book on his desk, weighing down the letters he'd yet to read. "I know you didn't." She placed one hand in his, then the other on his cheek. Even when she was at her worst, Ghira still saw his beautiful Kali as a veritable goddess among mortals. She leaned close and kissed him. "I know you didn't."

She seated herself on his lap and laid her head against his chest. The thick carpet of chest hair acted as a pillow of sorts for her, bringing a sense of comfort and serenity. Memories brought her back to a time long ago, when her daughter slept against her chest, the two of them cradled in the embrace of the love of her life. She felt safe in his arms, and Blake was safe in her arms within his arms.

Ghira placed an arm around her, holding her close and giving soft, circular strokes over her shoulder. He then looked to the baby book pressed down on the remaining letters from the people of Menagerie and beyond. Pulling it close to him, he lifted the cover and decided to stroll down memory lane.

Ghira is the Chieftain of Menagerie, but for now... He decided to be a grieving father. Just for today.

"...the body has yet to be found. Very odd, High Leader."

"Keep searching." She'd forgotten what her jaw felt like when it wasn't tense. "The sooner we find Blake's body and bring it to Menagerie, the sooner we can bring back Ghira Belladonna."

"High Leader, why would we trade a traitor..."

"...for a traitor from before her, High Leader?"

"Because the sooner Ghira Belladonna is on our side, the sooner I can get our brothers and sisters out of Vale." Sienna stood from her throne. "The last thing I want is our people getting caught up in something over all of our heads. You have your orders, now leave."

"Of course, High Leader."

"Right away, High Leader."

The Albain brothers stood from their kneeling positions and smartly left the throne room. Once the doors were shut behind them, they began to speak much quieter than normal.

"Indeed, we have our orders..."

"...to be fulfilled to the letter."

The brothers nodded and made haste to the post office. There, they would speak with their informant to examine any letters to and from Ghira Belladonna. Then whatever letters they deemed necessary, they would take before speaking to their spies across the island. Finally, when they had completed their mission, they would report back to Adam Taurus.

Just as he had instructed to them long before speaking with High Leader Khan.

"Why does it have to be me?" Ilia asked, raising a brow at Adam. He gave a snarl, making her cave in, physically and spiritually. "Um, f-for clarity, I mean."

"Because you're the only one who can pass for a human." Adam said after regaining his composure. "And because I said so."

Ilia looked to her bullhead ticket, her mind racing at the grocery list of objectives she was to accomplish. For a moment, she'd considered doing the same thing Blake did and leave the White Fang in the middle of her mission. Unfortunately, Adam seldom made the same mistake twice, as was evident by her chaperone, nicknamed 'Banesaw' for both his weapon and his violent tendency to overkill with collateral damage. She looked to him, and he snarled with twice the ferocity Adam gave. Again, she caved.

"Now, what are your orders?"

"Make contact with the human criminal, Roman Torchwick." Ilia gulped. "Infiltrate Beacon Academy. Locate Blake's body."

"If it exists." Adam clarified, part of him not fully convinced Blake died so easily. The caskets at the memorial service were kept closed, with only photos placed on both the caskets and the screen acting as identifiers of each initiate. Humans were too squeamish to conduct open casket funerary services. "And what else?"

"Uh..." Ilia gulped. "Report back to you?"

"One other thing." Adam held up a finger. "I'm not convinced by anything put out by the media. Everything is controlled and filtered by the oppressive human hierarchy. Therefore, I want you to collect information from an eyewitness. Someone who was there during the initiation." He slid an open folder towards her, and out slid a photo of a young man with blond hair and blue eyes.

Thinking about all the NFAK songs built around the act of looking at the lover. How there is an exploration of the manner in which the sight of the lover engages with the beloved. The sight being the first sense that interacts with the beloved, and what that means to the lover. How sight lets you build what you want to make of your beloved without touching them. Akin to how one might interact with god because one can't touch god.

13 years ago, Adam Taurus (note: last name constructed) became the subject of a world known, yet private court case against the SDC where a brand over his left eye was used as evidence of several claims of Faunus workplace abuse. The accusers in the court case were the two leaders of the White Fang, Ghira Bête & Sienna Khan. The White Fang won the court case and an anti neo-slavery bill was passed throughout Atlas-Mantle as a result. Adam, who had recently lost his mother at the time and was a still a minor, was adopted by Sienna Khan who took him to Menagiere.

... unfortunately, 5 years ago Ghira and his wife Kali Bête were assasinated at a Faunus rally somewhere in rural Sanus. They survive by their only daughter, Blake Bête. Since then, the White Fang has cultivated a [CLASSIFIED] organization under the leadership of Sienna Khan. The leaders of the White Fang under Sienna include Adam (Vale branch leader) and Fennec & Corsac Albain (Religous leaders). Attempts by the White Fang to establish an Atlas branch have been stopped by the council (note: countinue to stop them. watch all WF gatherings in Atlas).

The White Fang has a Black Ops organization being used to carry out robberies and assasinations in all of Renment. The leader of the Black Ops is Adam Taurus, with Illia Amitola (note: needs a case file) and Blake Bête (has carried out 8 known assasinations on Faunus hate groups, currently missing, needs a case file) as sub commanders. All three serve as de-facto leaders of the White Fang in the event Sienna Khan is killed (note: Do NOT assasinate Sienna Khan, it will lead to race riots. Limit anti White Fang activity to covert operations).

Adam is wanted for the murders of 64 individuals in Atlas, all of whom are connected to the SDC (note: at least 20 were family members). If spotted, do NOT kill him, he is to be captured alive under all circumstances. Allow him to flee if he cannot be captured.

Sort of a funny/sad realization but it just occurred to me Salem & Sienna potentially could have worked together.

Cos even if we ignore well thought out speculation on Salem's end goals, her priorities have been Relics > Ozma > Maidens > Kingdoms.

With the last two being more like tools to get to the latter two.

Sure we know from Atlas she is OK with a civilization falling, but she's also fine with something just being snuck out of the Vault or given to her.

Thus, it seems it was more Cinder's methods and or issues with the kingdoms as concepts that informed some of her methods or allies, IE, Adam who cares more about killing than he does about building or conquering.

But if city destruction and mass death are not necessary, one could actually see an alliance between Sienna & Salem.

i think abt this all the time cause like

salem sends hazel, her most level-headed lieutenant and the one least likely to escalate or resort to violence in circumstances where ozpin is not present, to represent her to sienna khan

hazel (& salem by extension) is not forewarned of adam's plan to assassinate sienna and his open disgust with adam afterward leads to hazel (& again, salem by extension) essentially washing hands of adam's white fang at haven

"but the moment you put your desires before my own, they will be lost to you" <- this isn't true of hazel (he lies to protect emerald, salem intimidates emerald to make a point but does not hurt her) or cinder (salem doesn't stick to "she must be left to toil in her isolation" for long and cinder wins the power struggle in V8), but it IS true of adam, whose coup results in salem dropping him

so like… it seems pretty evident that salem would have preferred to work with sienna over adam which aside from the obvious ideological implications of that preference also… makes sense because, as you note, both sienna and salem are pragmatists motivated by change rather than wanton destruction.

i would also point out that salem's campaign is specifically against the huntsmen academies, with the kingdoms being collateral damage (grimm withdraw from vale but continue to hold beacon, in mistral she assassinated qrow's information network and targeted haven very precisely, her forces do not attack mantle or follow civilians into the subway), and atlas falls as a result of what ironwood does while salem is a smear of ash on the ground + by the time she reconstitutes the cities are almost completely empty. so i do think it's an open question whether salem intended for atlas to fall versus just not caring to save it from falling when she reformed in a doomed but fully evacuated kingdom.

which matters because if sienna were brought into the loop regarding what the academies are really for (i.e., safeguarding the relics for mankind's eschaton) i do think she would find working with salem to break the academies and retrieve the relics a fairly easy sell if salem gave her a compelling reason to believe that the ultimate plan is to build a new world--it is obviously not going to go well for the faunus if the human who controls those relics ever summons his gods back for the day of judgment and it isn't as though sienna's averse to violent tactics if she believes they will be effective in furthering her strategic end of a better world for the faunus. (salem not being human is also a potential point in favor)

You hate how his stupid handsome smirk is making butterflies fly in your body. After the semi twirl, he turns you over in front, his arm around your bare waist causing you to gasp silently. God knows what came over him. He lightly pecks your cheek in front of everyone and discreetly removes his stuck scarf.

'Oye soni kitti soni aaj tu lagdi ve bas mere sath yeh jodi teri sajdi ve' Didi and jija come in and dance to their assigned part. You run away from him quickly to calm your racing heart.

He is looking at you, a grin gracefully sitting over his pretty lips. You bashfully look up. 'Haan main ho gaya tera sajna.' It's the time for all the boys to come together on the stage. Your rival shoots a smooth wink before going to dance.

4. Ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga (1942: A love story)

You accidentally fell from your cycle by speeding over the speed breaker. Obviously you won't cry. You are fifteen now. A girl quickly arrives towards you, and in a soft voice asks, "Hey, you okay? That was a terrible fall. Dhyan kidhar tha?" Wincing, you look up, and see a pretty girl with silver jhumke and white salwar blowing at your wound. She is wearing a multi coloured bandhani dupatta. In two seconds, you forget the blood oozing out of your knee. The only red your eyes are focused on are on the pretty red shade of the girl's lips.

She is about to tear her dupatta to tie it across your wound. Your hand immediately holds her wrist, and you feel electricity jolt in your fingers. "Itna sundar dupatta kharab mat karo. Ghar idhar paas hai. Just help me to reach my gate, please."

Shaking her head, she tears her dupatta while you let out a gasp. "You are bleeding too much, besides I can always buy a new dupatta." She finally looks up at you and smiles. That's when you get a clear picture of her face.

Doe eyes lightly lined with kajal, a small bindi right between her eyebrows, and a small stone nath on her nose. She looks heavenly! You think how in front of such a beautiful girl, you look dust laden after falling off your bicycle.

"Aise mat dekho... tumhe pyaar ho jayega."
