Lots of brilliant, thoughtful, funny posts out there about today's BMF episode so I just wanna jump in with some Thai!

Disclaimer: I'm still learning but want to share my love for Thai more! So feel free to correct me or expand on anything 🙏

What Pisaeng says here is that he wants them to stop using the pronouns กู (guu) / มึง (mueng) that they have both been using with each other so far. From my experience watching Thai series, they're most common in male friendships but Not and Kwan use them with each other as well in this show! In most school and university settings, you'll hear it between guys all the time but they're actually quite rude. You might see parents in Thai shows scold their kids for using them. Here's Punn from Be Mine Superstar using กู (guu) / มึง (mueng) while he's fighting with his little brother in front of their mom and immediately-

You might see someone intentionally switch to these pronouns in anger, like Payu in Love in the Air when Stop spits on his bike. He repeats his sentence, just switches out the polite 2nd person pronoun คุณ (khun) for มึง (mueng).

Between friends they express closeness and there's a long list of Thai BL couples who start as friends or school mates and thus continue to use them after they start dating. But there's also lots who decide to change how they speak to each other. A compromise I see a lot is foregoing pronouns and using names (yes, you can refer to yourself and others by name in Thai, it gives a bit of an intimate or cute feeling though). Like super sweet Khabkluen and Daonuea from Star in My Mind (here Our Skyy 2) who call themselves and each other by Kluen and Dao and also use the polite ending particle ครับ (khab).

Now where the hell am I going with all of this?

After Pisaeng brings up the pronoun thing and Kawi goes "Like what?", I was expecting the option Names. But then Pisaeng pulls a sly happy face and I adjust to expecting เธอ (ter) maybe?? considering its frequent use in (love) songs and in some recent memes such as โอ้เธอหวานเจี๊ยบ (Oh ter! Waan jiab! = Oh you! SO sweet!) - if you at all follow GeminiFourth, you have certainly heard or read it before lol

What Pisaeng actually says though is the epitome of lover-cutespeak:

เตง (dtaeng), a version/shortening of ตัวเอง (dtua-eeng) which originally means 'oneself', and is mostly used along with the 1st person pronoun เค้า (kao), which itself is a version of a 3rd person pronoun. Confused? The idea here seems to be a Call me by your name/I am You, You are Me type of deal. The only couple I can remember off the top of my head who actually uses them is Liu and See-ew in The Warp Effect.

Moving on though! Kawi expectedly and hilariously shoots that down and:

...his 'you' here is มึง (mueng) again, to Pisaeng's disappointment lol

So Kawi repeats his question, using the polite 2nd person pronoun คุณ (khun) and the polite ending particle ครับ (khab), that he intentionally pronounces sweetly by elongating the vowel. Pisaeng responds by using the polite male 1st person pronoun ผม (pom) that works in lots of situations.

Maybe it's that I've been conditioned by too many university settings in Thai BL but I somehow didn't expect these friends-to-lovers university students to go with this choice (P'Waa managing to surprise me again). It reads as mature in a way? Like intentionally being not just polite but formal. It's a thing you might hear from parent characters/spouses but also just normal working adults, like Tan and Bun in Manner of Death. They continuously work towards building a long-lasting relationship while the show keeps subverting expected BL tropes left and right!

Throughout the rest of this episode, they omit pronouns where possible but Pisaeng starts using them repeatedly during dinner at the restaurant and in the preview they both use ผม (pom) / คุณ (khun) comfortably.

After many lines of omitted pronouns during the amusement park date, Pisaeng makes it a point to use ผม (pom) / คุณ (khun) right here, by the way:

Truth be told, I am watching this entirely because I was recommended a YouTube video in which one of the lead actors asked the other if he would still love him if he was a worm. It has nothing to do with this show, but I enjoyed it

"When will you stop messing with my life?" said Nuea to Khabkluen, as if he were not boxing him into the parking lot:

"And what? You didn't tell me you met Daonuea at the university." "Everything remains the same. Nothing has changed." I guess Kluen is still thinking about Nuea's high school confession

I said this in my last liveblog, but the way that Dunk Natachai bobbles his head when he's doing "thinking" acting really makes me giggle

And they were roommates (oh my god they were roommates)

"Stop flirting around. He's a friend." I enjoy Maitee who uses the Freshy meetings as an opportunity to flirt with the homies

"What song do you want to hear? Then I can sing that one." "See?Ai Phoon is being flirty too, so why don't you yell at him." Nuea truly has every man in this meeting in a trance. Incredible

I do enjoy the slight smile that Kluen has any time he looks at Nuea

I'm going to guess this is Nuea's brother, but as someone who has a brother: Extremely weird way to tell your sibling you miss them

"I could never get over my feelings for you. I like you, Khabkluen." That's one way to clear the air. Dream sequence?

I do have to wonder based on Kluen's behaviour if Nuea never gave him the opportunity to say yes and simply just assumed his answer was no LOL

"Only KluenNuea's room had the light on in the entire building. #KluenNuea" LMAO @ this show creating its own hashtag. Do people in Thai universities genuinely pay each other this much attention because I cannot imagine

"What is your favourite thing you've said?" "Have a safe flight." WAS THIS KLUEN'S WAY OF RESPONDING TO BEING CONFESSED TO? Because it does read a little like, 'Leave!'

Kluen called Nuea cute and stood too close to him, so his reply was to panic-drink his Sponsor Juice:

I don't really understand the tone that this show is going for, because they keep doing swells of romantic music every time they have a normal interaction, and there hasn't been a whole lot happening, but it's cute

It is very sweet of Nuea to offer to creat a whole painting of Kluen's mother two days before her birthday

Kluen said: If you won't kiss me with your mouth, you will kiss me through our share guava juice (also why does Nuea look so suspicious, you literally just had ice cream from the same spoon this afternoon)

The romantic music cues on this show are SO funny. "I didn't prepare a show!" [Romantic music plays]

"Though they were in different classes, Kluen always carried the school bag for her. Girls in school were so jealous of her." "So that means you did know Khabkluen before, didn't you?" Who is responsible for Nuea's chapstick bc this a rough scene for his lips

If Khuafah is Nuea's sibling, he isn't NEARLY perturbed enough about their couple's hashtag

Kluen changing Dao's ankle bandage is kinda giving Midnight Barber. 'I do my best intermediate first aid when you're asleep'

HAHAHA the whole "He's my big brother," "What do you mean?" Is such a culturally specific problem. Because of the whole Phi/Nong in Thai thing it really obscures who's actually related (in fairness, we do the same in Bangla, but I don't call my brother 'dada,' bc that is not a value my parents instilled LOL)

KHKFJHGKJHG it is so extremely chaotic for Kluen to start a facetime call with his mum while he's driving just to convince Dao to come join her birthday party

"Kluen, you said Daonuea was stubborn. He isn't at all." Mum said: Two can play at the embarassment game

Also not Kluen sending his own mother to sleep at her birthday party (of three) so he can have some alone time with his potential bf gghkjghgkjh what a rambunctious child

Why is Dao dipping his injured foot in the pool! Did he take his bandage off just to do this LOL

"At that moment [when you were in love] how did you feel? "Love. How else should I have felt?" This is such a 19-year-old boy answer to this question LOL

They needed a pool fight to cool down from the romantic tension

"Here. [These roses] are for you." "Why?" Wild question to ask. Daonuea said: I am a double threat, handsome AND stupid

"Do I need to tell you everything? Figure it out, or be alone for the rest of your life." Gia said: I am not your romantic genie, Kluen, learn to communicate

Also this exchange has changed my view of his and Gia's relationship. Demoted from cousin to childhood friend

Sean is truly the only one who witnesses the intimacy between Kluen and Dao

If I were Dao and I thought this guy didn't have feelings for me, Kluen's behaviour would drive me insane

"The best thing I'll do for someone who loves me is first to find out whether I love the person or not. If not, I will say directly that I don't... because no one wants to get their hopes up. And I'll always be thankful for the affection I get." This is Kluen's way of saying 'Have a safe flight' is NOT code for 'I don't love you'

"As for somone I love, the best thing I will do is to promise to listen, take care of them, and always stay by their side. I'll be honest about my feelings. Though I'm not good at expressing them, though the person still has no idea how much I feel, my love will never stop." Over under on Dao thinking this is a confession to Gia and running off stage

Typhoon and Fah are engaged in a weird hostile rose standoff. This is what happens when no one clarifies their relationship status:

"Before I make myself clear [about my relationship status], when did I ever give you hope, Maitee?" HAHAHAH Dao makes a direct and accurate hit

In fairness to Dao, he has said about six times now that Fah is his brother, but no one believes him

Emergent B plot: Fah having a meetcute in the stairwell

"Guys, this is Kuafah, my older brother. We don't share the same last name because we have different fathers but the same mother." [Pointing] "So he's your real brother?" They needed a visual demonstration for proof

"So this is the face of the girl who said she would get over him." Daonuea is the Beyonce of his school

"Are you taking a walk not inviting me at all?" Typhoon this sentence gives me the heebie jeebies. Same energy as 'Going to bed' 'Without me? :('

"If Kluen hadn't gone to Bangkok, we wouldn't have met." WHAT! You followed this man to school, DAO? CRAZY

"I have a resort too, but it's up in the mountains." All this little rich kids and their family resorts

"Between a sea of mist, and a sea like this one, which do you prefer?" "I like a sea like this one." It's a metaphor for letting Phoon down easy

Surely, Phoon must wonder why Dao knows Kluen's mum so well

All the other Freshy students waiting because Dao and Kluen are too busy having a farmers market date to bring back the ingredients for dinner: 😔💔🦐

"Why do I get the impression Daonuea already has someone in his heart?" Because he and Kluen keep orbitting around each other like gay planets

Poor Papang, she doesn't have the forward nature of these boys when it comes to showing her feelings for Dao

"If the person in his heart was truly good, he wouldn't keep him waiting this long." Phoon said: Move it or lose it, Kluen

I do appreciate that Dao walked away instead of leaning into his own romantic distress and starting something with Phoon

"And you were named Khabkluen because of the sea?" "I guess so. "My mom named the North Star because it's the brighest star." Awwww I kind of suspected when they made the matching t-shirts, but they are both references to each other's names

"Phoon is a nice guy. You chose right." "So you think Phoon and I..." "Whatever hurts you, just forget about it, and move on like you're doing now." Break-up-Before-Dating-Bridge

"But I want to leave." "What? Why? You said you liked beaches." Daoneua has had a tough 24 hours when it comes to romance and self-reflection

"Do you always cry when you're drunk?" "I wasn't drunk." Dao said: I'm trying a new thing, being unsettingly honest about every subject. You should try it, Phoon. Kluen never will!

SCREAM Dao doing Kluen's art homework and writing left-handed so it looks more like his writing. What an unhinged thing to do. Also how could Kluen possibly not notice someone doing this

Fhkfhkhffkh Dao's dynamic with Papang gives me hives. Please just tell her you don't like her instead of just leading her on

"Remember, you can't keep everythign to yourself, alright?" Kluen's mum said: Tell me about your boy trouble, son

"For a physical illness, doctors can find a way to help. For love sickness, I don't think we can." Fah is finally fulfilling the duty of all older brothers: Dunking on their younger sibling (no pun intended)

HAHAHAH Dao said: God made me single because you're a slut, Fah!

"You guys know [about you and Gia], but other people don't." You know, not to immediately compare this to Hidden Agenda, but at least in that show he had a reason for obfuscating his relationship status (to protect Nita from her stalker). In this show, he is vague for no reason at all LMAOOO

"What should I do then?" "Make yourself clear. Both your feelings and actions." Both Kluen and Dao are receiving the exact same advice at the same time, which is that they should be honest about their emotions. To which the both said: Ew, gross, why do I have to do that?

"This is Georgia, my close friend." "You're talking like a TV star again." No one ever believes anyone when they explain their relationships in this show

"Because you're scared, I think I still have a chance." Insane take, Phoon. Elaborate

"If you don't wake up, I'll take it as a yes [to being my boyfriend]." HAHAHAHAHA not Dao rising from the dead to reject Phoon. Also don't do that, it's weird!!!

Kluen has decided to finally use his words (and his mouth, for a little kiss in the bathroom):

"You broke up with her because of Daonuea. You're the one in Daonuea's heart. And Daonuea is the one in your heart too. Am I reading it right?" Plot twist: Kluen and Georgia DID date! Also, Sean truly knows everything, even events he wasn't there for

"We don't love each other that way. We're just... used to having each other in life." SCREAM what a way to dump someone. Kluen said: We're not romantic, just codependent

"Patch things up with him." KJHGKJHGKJH Sean said: Enough of this, your homework is figuring out your relationship xoxo

"Make it clear to me now whether you have me in your heart or not," said Dao, to which Kluen replied, 'I'm not good with words, would you accept a little kiss in the parking lot?'

Kluen really still has not had the opportunity to explain himself at all. The entire show could've been prevented by one (1) halfway decent conversation

LOL @ Dao's friends pretending to know what happened the night before so they can get the gossip

[Apologizes for the third time] "You can say something else." "I don't want you to leave. And I promise not to make you worried again." Kluen comes closer to finding his words every minute

"You have ten minutes. Say whatever you need to say." "Can I call Noel first? I don't want to say anything stupid." Wjhkjhkjhff not Kluen using his lifeline during this love confession to ask to phone a friend:

"Though we've broken up, we still look out for each other. It's because of you that I got to know my own feelings." It took Kluen six episodes, but he got there eventually

Gia chose a difficult time to have a crisis mid-DTR-confession time

"But if you need the real answer, I would say you should wait. Even I can wait. I totally undertood it when you said, you don't even know what you are waiting for. Even so, you still want to wait, don't you?" I'm glad Phoon is giving legitimate advice and understanding. He is not a terrible second lead

I take it back, they have turned this phone call into a very convoluted lead-in to a date

Fjhfkfhfh the moral of this show is that if you ask Daonuea something insistently enough, he WILL say yes

God, I KNEW Typhoon would post something about their date as if it's a new relationship status, despite the fact it is a 24-hour-pity-boyfriend. Icky and bold

"Don't you think that's too much? If you don't delete it, just leave!" GOOD. Get out weirdo!

"Actually, Phoon is good. A lot better than me." Someone give this guy some self-esteem no jutsu

"Why didn't you ask me to come with you? We're boyfriends today." Phoon you become ickier and ickier every minute

"But you win, Kluen, because Daonuea also loves you. You don't need to compete with anyone." Phoon said: I'm that weird guy in your DMs, but I'm not a liar

I didn't like any part of this Phoon-kiss-instigating-Kluen-bar-fight

"I hate people who use violence," said Dao, shortly before he gave Kluen a gentle tap with his car

Scream at the other guys still hanging out at the bar trying to bounce back from this interaction

Kluen will tell literally everyone in their friend group he loves Dao except him. Phoon, Sean, Noel. Who will he tell next? Fah? His mum? I give it 40 more minutes before we get to Dao

"What the hell were you guys playing at? We're grown ups." Yeah, that's a reasonable question, Pokpong

"But you, Papang. I never thought of you as more than a friend." HAHAHA Dao has chosen a very unkind way to let Papang down (in front of all their peers in the cafeteria kjghkgjhg)

"Am I not good enough? You haven't even opened your heart to me yet. What about the chance I asked from you?" Pokpong, Nay and Ting on the other side of the cafeteria table watching this interaction like: 👁👄👁

Also, Pokpong and Nay, probably: Damn Daonuea, who AREN'T you involved with?

"Isn't he curious why he still gets marks while not doing his own work?" THAT'S WHAT I SAID, NAY

Gia actually had a very good reason for being in a crisis during their DTR, which is that she got punched in the face by someone she cared about (yikes)

"Clear things up with him. I don't want to be the problem while I'm trying to help." Gia joins the endless train of people trying to get these two to communicate

Kluen has resorted back to delivering his feelings to Dao like a Handsome Uber Ghost, or a cat:

The chronology of this flashback doesn't make much sense. He broke up with Gia in eleventh grade, but he bought Dao a sunflower bracelet BEFORE Dao confessed, at the end of 10th grade? So he was just stepping out on Gia, buying bracelets for another guy? Kluen, control yourself!

"Sorry for not explaining. Sorry for being so bad expressing myself, bad at talking. And I'm sorry I didn't have the courage to say... love." This is a good apology but I think maybe Dao should also apologize for gently running into you with his car

Hahahahhaa Kluen said: I allowed you to plagiarize for me bc it was romantic, not because I'm bad at art class

"I just never had feelings for anyone like I did for you, Daonuea." Now that Kluen has found his words, he is in his cheesy bitch era

"Can it be the last time we allow others to speak for us? From now on, if there is anything, we should talk it out nicely, both of us." Again, I tell you this entire show could've been averted by one solid conversation

I hate what has just been revealed, it was weird, and I didn't like it. I will not be elaborating at this time

"I think you should make it obvious [that you're together]. Although Typhoon deleted the photo, people still saw it." "I'll let Dao talk to Phoon first. And we'll see." Oh sure, now we respect boundaries!

Also the fact Kluen's post of Dao has 110 likes like a minute after posting. What kind of social media presence does Kluen have

Wow, I did get answer as to where Fah's stairwell meetcute is! He is Chiang Mai, hanging out with his buddies from summer camp (Kluen and Noel)

"I'm curious now, what's your family business?" "Just a normal business. Noel is exaggerating." All the love, Prince, but this does sound like something someone whose parents had a normal business would say

"I'm also into business. Would you like a partner?" Maitee really wiling to shoot his shot always

The fact that Kluen and Dao are always locked arms or holding hands now is quite sweet

Hahahahah Sean has been waiting for MONTHS to talk about how much Dao and Kluen flirted in front of him

Again, so chaste compared to what I have already seen them do. This has to be a choice from this director, because I know they're not afraid to kiss (in a series or for fun, it seems):

I do also wish I could unsee the incredibly weird way they chose to segue into a sequel! I think I have seen enough of the Our Skyy cinematic universe LOL

Final thoughts: It was fine. I feel like Hidden Agenda was definitely a stronger series, with many parts of the same recipe. I do think they used their ensemble cast well, and the romantic tension was good, but the series felt solely premised upon people choosing not to tell each other anything for no reason. It also engaged in several tropes I didn't care for, and rather than let it stand alone, shoehorned a very alarming bridge to a sequel. These two are good leads, and I'm glad they have put them together, but it's like Twilight. There's only so much talented actors with solid chemistry can do. I am glad I sated my curiosity, but it's not something I would necessarily rewatch or recommend. Bring back the debate show!

Soulmates

They sound like a fairy tale but they were real.

Everyone was born with words on their skin that belonged to their soulmates.

The words varied but they would always be in the soulmate's handwriting.

It could be easy or hard to find them but everyone agrees that it was worth it to wait for them.

Daonuea and Khabkluen were two of the people who would say this while looking at each other with eyes full of love.

Daonuea smiled as he watched Khabkluen sleep.

He never imagined that one day he would be able to have this, sometimes everything felt like a dream.

His eyes always strayed towards his lover's chest, right where his heart was.

'I like you'

It was a simple phrase and many people thought it wasn't special, Daonuea also had thought that when he was shown the soulmark, but Khabkluen was proud of it.

His boyfriend loved to tell Daonuea that having the words of his confession in his skin warmed him everytime he looked at them even if Khabkluen's response to it wasn't the best.

And Daonuea loved this, Kluen never feared telling him how much he loved him since they got together.

"My star?" Khabkluen mumbles

"Good morning, my wave" Daonuea says softly and gives a quick peck to Khabkluen

""What time is it?" Khabkluen asks as he rolls so he can hide his face in Daonuea's neck

"Seven in the morning but today is saturday" Daonuea says and giggles when Khabkluen's breath hits his neck and tickles him

"Hmm" Khabkluen hum and kisses his neck softly "Will you be only mine today?"

Daonuea smiles at that and brings Khabkluen's face to his hands and kisses him.

"I'm yours everyday but yes, I will be only yours today" Daonuea whispers with a soft smiles

"Good" Khabkluen says and Daonuea laughs

"My wave is so possessive this morning" he teases and Khabkluen just traces the words in Daonuea's chest

"You already knew that from the beginning" Khabkluen says before kissing the words

'I claimed you and you are mine so claim me so I know that I am yours'

Daonuea had always been confused by what these words could mean in the past but when he got to meet this unknown side of Khabkluen, the one only he would ever get to meet, he grew to understand and adore them.

"I did and I love that about you" Daonuea hums as Khabkluen continues to give soft kisses to his chest and neck

"Dao" Khabkluen calls and Daonuea looks at him just to see dark eyes full of desire and love "Claim me, my Dao, I want to be marked for days so everyone knows who I belong to" he whispers and brings him to a kiss

"It would be my pleasure as long as you do the same to me, my Kluen" Daonuea says before he kisses Khabkluen again and starts his claiming

There were many people who could have been their soulmates but no matter what, they were happy with each other and wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

OUR SKYY 2: STAR & SKY: STAR IN MY MIND (2023, THAILAND)

Episode 2 of 2

I know a lot of fans to see Khabkluen and Daonuea again me included.

But what I appreciate is that they gave TyPhoon (PHANUROJ CHALERMKIJPORNTAVEE aka PEPPER) a bit of dignity. Phoon wasn't a bad guy. He made some bad choices because he fell in love with Daonuea (NATACHAI BOONPRASERT aka DUNK) who was already in love with Khabkluen.

There of course was some notable absences for me...such as Papang, like Phoon she sincerely cared for Daonuea. Pong was missing (Daonuea's other bestie that came back with him from Germany)and the most notable absence was Fah (Daonuea's big overprotective and loving brother)

I know they couldn't bring everyone back.

And Satang as Sean and Winny as Nay were not friends in Star in my Mind. Sean was a Freshy Boy with Kluen, Dao, Maitee and Phoon. While Nay was Daonuea's best friend and usually hung out with Dao and Pong (sometimes Fah)only.

But with Satang and Winny's successful pairing in my School President it seems Nay and Sean were closer in Our Skyy 2 than in Star in my Mind
