27 Juli.
Sebut aja deh ya.... aku jadian sama Kenneth. Wkwkwkwk kocak dipikir2. Dulu ditembaknya lewat SMS... IYA SMS. WKWKWK.
Jadii, throwback sedikit sebelum jadian. Akutuh emang dideketin banyak cowok.. bener2 banyak, temen sekelas, beda kelas, kaka kelas. Keliatan banget gitu tujuannya buat jadian sama aku aja bukan buat temenan:(
Terussss tiba2 ni si kenneth ini tuh nge sms juga, bilangnya salah kirim padahal kaga HAHAHA MODUS. Terus akhirnya jadi sering sms-an lah karena dia tuh gak keliatan ngedeketin aku jadi aku seneng, sejujurnya aku gak tau ni orang yang mana. Tau sih sebenernya, tapi gak yakin karena blm pernah ketemu lagi, cuma pernah ketemu di kelas tambahan bahasa inggris dan yaudah selewat aja.
Tapi karena sms-an-nya asik, yaudah lah bodo amat walaupun ga tau orangnya juga, waktu itu lagi libur sekolah jadi gabisa ketemu wkwkwk.
Was wes wos was wes wos sampai lah ditanggal 27 juli 2011, ini blm pernah ketemu dulu sebelumnya. Tiba2 temen aku tuh nembak gitu kaaaan, tapi aku bilang gak mauuuu. Eh si temen aku malah nawarin "tapi kalo sama si kenneth mau?" Terus aku jawab "MAU" HAHAHAHA KOCAKKKKK.
Akhirnya jadian tuh, gak lama masuk sekolah. SUMPAH! YAALLAH. UDAH KAYAK APAAN.
Aku baru dateng, langsung ditanyain "refa.... kamu punya pacar? Jadian? Sama siapa???!!!! Kenneth tuh yang mana??????" Hahahaha kocak banget pada gatau si kenneth yang mana🥲 yaudahlah tuh seharian ngewaroin temen2 yang heboh.
Pokoknya kayaknya sesekolah tau aku pacaran sama siapa, sampe guru2 pun tau. Capek banget hahaha.
Dah lah ya tuh, biasa pacaran anak sekolah beda kelas. Si kenneth suka sengajain lewat2 kelas aku, caper ceritanya wkwkwk tapi lucu aja gitu ya seneng kalo ngeliat dia lewat🤣 terus suka pulang bareng, berangkat bareng jalan kaki, kasmaran banget pokonya seruu wakakak. Banyak banget seru nya, mulai dari suka ditungguin ekskul, terus aku diajakin main tendang2an bola sama dia karena dia ekskul futsal, terus study tour bareng ke jogja, ke dufan, dan masih banyak lagii haaaaaaa seru banget pokoknya!!!
Ehhhh jalan berapa bulan nih si kampret berasa jadi cowok keren banget. Jual pesona sana sini. Udah gitu kelakukannya kayak bocah sedikit2 marah, sedikit2 pundung, dah gitu ketauan juga deketin adik kelas. Capek lah ya buukkk saya. Galau mulu kerjaan aku waktu itu wkwkwkwk.
Akhirnya ngerasa capek banget, pengen putus aja. Giliran diputusin, dianya gak mau mohon2 segala macem. Akhirnya break tuh. Gatau brp lama lupa.
Ehhh si sayang ya emang kudu digretak dulu, pas udahan breaknya dia jadi baik banget sama akuuu, gak kayak dulu lagi, ga pundungan lagi, ga deket2in cewek lagi. Terus yaudahlahya, tapi gatau kenapa akunya udah tanggung hambar gituuu rasanya. Malah ngerasa "kenapa ga dari dulu sih" kemaren aku setaun lebih kesiksa sama kelakukannya, sekarang baru berubah kemana aja. Gitu ngerasanya wkwk.
EH SI KAMPRETTTTTTT DIA TIBA2 MUTUSIN PACARNYA BUAT JADIAN SAMA AKU. PANIK LAH AKU BINGUNG KUDU GIMANA. Disatu sisi sbnrnya gak mauuu akuteh putus sama kenneth, tapi disatu sisi akuteh ga enak sama si kampret ini karena dia udah mutusin pacarnya. Akhirnya aku juga mutusin si kenneth. Wkwkwkwkwk. Kocak tolol banget.
Ternyata pas putus kenneth galau banget parah yaAllah, gak nyangka juga dia bakal segalau itu. Gak tegaaa sebenernya tapi disatu sisi aku malah nganggep "karma" buat dia karena dia sudah menyakiti aku wkwkwk. Terus aku juga dasar masih bocil, kayak pura2 ga kenal aja sama dia kalo di sekolah.
Yaudah tuh dia galaunya juga terang2an banget kan sampe suatu hari dia punya pacar. Padahal udah masing2 ya, tapi pas tau dia punya pacar aku galau... iya galau.. BANGET. Padahal dulu aku yang mutusin wkwkwk.
Terus yaudah deh 3 taun masing2, walaupun tetep dia selalu muncul di tanggal 27 juli. Gabisa move on dia gaes, YA SAMA AKUJUGA TAPI AKUNYA GENGSI DULU TEH GAMAU BALIKAN PADAHAL UDAH DIAJAKIN BALIKAN:)))))
Dulu tuh yaaa, dalam setaun pasti pernah telfonan. Tiap telfonan seneng banget. BANGETTTTT. Cerita2 segala macem, tapi tiap lewat tengah malem langsung galau.
Akhirnya aku berhenti karena takut terlalu jauh bikos akunya baper lagi gakbisaaaa gak sayang lagi tuhhh padahal belom pernah ketemu lagi wkwk.
Lulus kelas xii, chat lagi, dia bilang "kamu lewatin TK aja, nanti tiba2 aku ada di sana" gila dibilang gitu aja aku tiap keluar selalu lewat TK dan berharap tiba2 ketemu dia. Tapi gak ada anjirrr berasa bego banget aku ngapain sih nungguin. Wkwkwk.
Eh akhirnya ketemu tuh. dia nyamper ke rumah. Tau gaksiii rasanya kayak orang yang pertama kali disamperin cursh nya. Deg2an mampus, banyak kupu2 di perut, seneng banget. Hidup aku tiba2 ada warnanya lagi wkwkwkwk. Udah gak ketemu hampir 3 taun, sekali ketemu gak nahan rasanya JATUH CINTA LAGI. Sumpah, seneeeenggggggg banget. Berasa nemu satu hal yang udah ilang lama, akhirya ketemu lagi.
Dari situ mulai deket lagi, tapi si bego aku teh ya dia teh masih punya pacar. Ya kan tolol gitu akunya, dianya juga. Akhirnya aku udahin aja, berenti karena aku ngerasa udah terlalu jauh gitu jahat banget sama ceweknya karena aku sampe main sama si kenneth:) terus yaudahlahh yaa, akujuga di kampus deket sama kating jadi yaudah we gitu.
Eh tiba2 si kampret balik lagi bilang galau kalo dia abis diputusin pacarnya, aku di situ ya seneng engga sedih engga.. biasa aja gituu.
Gila ga? Iya.. aku gila banget. Sumpah. Minta kejelasan, dianya gak bisa. Unstable. Gak enak segala macem. Terus aku kayak "kamu kalo mau sama dia sok aja, tapi sama aku berhenti. Gak kayak gini. Gak adil. Bilang sama aku maunya gimana" blablablabla gatau dah tuh gimana ujung2nya w teteup sama manusia ini.
Tau gimana rasanya?????
Kayak Yu-Na Bi!:)
Aku gatau gimana perasaan dia, aku gak tau dia gimana sebenernya. Bener2 buta, bener2 gak ada arah.
Kayak gitu jalan 2 taun apa 3 taun..
Berasa gak berharga, berasa disepelein, tapi kalo udah ketemu ilang semua rasa2 itu.
Puncaknya, mantannya ini ngechat ke aku. Iyaaaa ngechat. Aku bersyukur sih waktu itu mantannya ngechat aku, akhirnya sama2 tau kayak gimana.
Akhirnya, aku ngelepasin kenneth. Mantannya-pun, mungkin. Yaudah masing2. Di situ kenneth bener2 gak nanya kabar aku, gila gaksih langsung ngerasa "oh emang ternyata selama ini ya gak penting akutuh. Aku ngilang gini pun gak dicariin sama sekali"
Sampe aku ngerasa udah lah, udah ikhlas juga. Mau lupain si kenneth, tapi pelan2 aja jangan dipaksain.
Terus gatau gimana ceritanya, balik lagi. Wkwkwkwkwkwkwkwkkwwkwkwkwk.
Balik lagiiiii, tapi akunya juga mauuuuuuu.
Sampe sekarang.
IYA WOI SAMPE SEKARANG.
Tapi udah 2 taun terakhir beda sih, gak kayak sebelumnya.
2. Sefrekuensi. IYAAAAA SEFREKUENSI. Susah banget nemu orang yang sefrekuensi.
Dah gitu aja cerita 27 juli aku.
Bye.

How to simulate softness
What factors affect how human touch perceives softness, like the feel of pressing your fingertip against a marshmallow, a piece of clay or a rubber ball? By exploring this question in detail, a team of engineers and psychologists at the University of California San Diego discovered clever tricks to design materials that replicate different levels of perceived softness.

The findings provide fundamental insights into designing tactile materials and haptic interfaces that can recreate realistic touch sensations, for applications such as electronic skin, prostheses and medical robotics. Researchers detail their findings in the Aug. 30 issue of Science Advances.
"We provide a formula to recreate a spectrum of softness. In doing so, we are helping close the gap in understanding what it takes to recreate some aspects of touch," said Charles Dhong, who co-led the study as a postdoctoral fellow at UC San Diego and is now an assistant professor in biomedical engineering at the University of Delaware. Dhong worked with Darren Lipomi, a professor of nanoengineering at UC San Diego and the study's co-corresponding author.
Based on the results from their experiments, the researchers created equations that can calculate how soft or hard a material will feel based on material thickness, Young's modulus (a measure of a material's stiffness), and micropatterned areas. The equations can also do the reverse and calculate, for example, how thick or micropatterned a material needs to be to feel a certain level of softness.
"What's interesting about this is that we've found two new ways to tune the perceived softness of an object -- micropatterning and changing the thickness," Dhong said. "Young's modulus is what scientists typically turn to in terms of what's soft or hard. It is a factor, but now we show that it's only one part of the equation."
Recreating softness
The researchers began by examining two parameters engineers use to measure a material's perceived softness: indentation depth (how deep a fingertip presses into a material) and contact area between the fingertip and the material. Normally, these parameters both change simultaneously as a fingertip presses into an object. Touch a piece of soft rubber, for example, and the contact area will increase the deeper a fingertip presses in.
Dhong, Lipomi and colleagues were curious how indentation depth and contact area independently affect the perception of softness. To answer this question, they specially engineered materials that decoupled the two parameters and then tested them on human subjects.
The researchers created nine different elastomeric slabs, each with its own unique ratio of indentation depth to contact area. The slabs differed in amount of micropatterning on the surface, thickness and Young's modulus.
Micropatterning is key to the design. It consists of arrays of raised microscopic pillars dotted on the surface of the slabs. These tiny pillars allow a fingertip to press deeper without changing the contact area. This is similar to pressing against the metal pins of a Pinscreen toy, where arrays of pins slide in and out to make a 3D impression.
"By creating these micropatterned surface structures, we produce discontinuous regions of contact where the finger presses in that are much smaller than the shadow it would cast on the surface," Lipomi said.
The team tested the slabs on 15 subjects and instructed them to perform two tasks. In the first task, they presented subjects with multiple pairs of slabs and asked them to identify the softer one in each pair. In the second task, the researchers had subjects rank the nine slabs from softest to hardest.
Overall, the slabs that subjects perceived as softer were thicker, had little to no micropatterning on the surface, and had a low Young's modulus. Meanwhile slabs that felt harder were thinner, had more micropatterning and a high Young's modulus.
Softness: a basic ingredient of touch
Experiments also led the researchers to an interesting conclusion: the perception of softness is a basic sensation, not a combination of other sensations.
"This means softness is a primary ingredient of the human sense of touch. It's like how we have RGB for color displays," Lipomi said. "If we can find the other 'pixels of touch,' can we combine them to make any tactile image we want? These are the fundamental things we would like to know going forward."
Paper title: "Role of Indentation Depth and Contact Area on Human Perception of Softness for Haptic Interfaces." Co-authors include Rachel Miller, Nicholas Root, Sumit Gupta, Laure V. Kayser, Cody W. Carpenter, Kenneth J. Loh and Vilayanur S. Ramachandran, all at UC San Diego.
This work was supported by the National Institutes of Health Director's New Innovator Award (grant 1DP2EB022358) and the Office of Naval Research (grant N00014-18-1-2483).

Beetlejuicethe Broadway musical differs in crucial ways from Tim Burton’s 1988 comic horror movie, as the character Beetlejuice himself (portrayed by Alex Brightman) makes clear from his first appearance on stage.
The musical begins with the funeral for Lydia’s mother, with the teenage Lydia (Sophia Anne Caruso) singing movingly of her loss.
Suddenly, there’s Beetlejuice perched on the coffin
“Holy crap! A ballad already?” he exclaims, shattering the melancholy mood. “And such a bold departure from the original source material.”
If you remember the movie (and I didn’t; I watched it again this week on Amazon), Beetlejuice doesn’t appear until about the half-way mark, and his high octane obnoxiousness and show biz wisecracking are delivered in memorable but limited doses. The musical’s Beetlejuice, hyper and foul-mouthed, takes center stage nearly from the get-go, and without letup. Most to the point, the demon sets the turbo-charged pace and loud tone for the entire proceedings. I’d say this was a fatal mistake, but in a musical comedy about death and the netherworld, that might sound like a good thing.
Still, if you can tolerate the bombardment, and don’t mind sappy scenes mixed in with the comically macabre plot, Beetlejuice the musical does have its pleasures – principally a few standout performances and especially the vivid visuals.
The story in outline is more or less the same as in the movie. Young couple Adam Maitland (Rob McClure) and his wife Barbara (Kerry Butler) die by falling through a hole in their living room. Lydia’s father Charles (Adam Dannheisser) moves in with his family. Adam and Barbara don’t want them in their house, and Beetlejuice tries to scare them away, but it backfires. Lydia, wearing black and in mourning for her mother, makes a connection with the deceased couple. Beetlejuice would like to make a connection with Lydia…by marrying her.
Alex Brightman, who scored big as the original star of School of Rock, makes the most of the meta theatrical wisecracking in “Beetlejuice”; does what he can with Beetlejuice’s crude jokes; wears out his welcome (through no fault of his own) with the character’s extended hyper-adrenalized antics. But the musical’s “departure from the original source material” helps create showcases for a couple of the other cast members. Leslie Kritzer portrays Delia, whom Charles hired to be Lydia’s life coach, and is secretly having an affair with Charles. Kritzer makes comic hay from quoting her conman guru Otho (Kevin Moon Loh), e.g.: “Sadness is like kale salad. No one likes it. Throw it out.”
Sophia Anne Caruso, 17, who has wowed New York theatergoers for years with her startling talent and uncomfortable precocity in such shows as The Netherand Lazarus, has a show-stopping number early in Beetlejuice, “Dead Mom.” Despite the cheeky tone of that song, the musical allows her to mourn, which makes her character less of a cartoon. But then Lydia tries to enter the Netherworld to retrieve her loved one – a plot served to much better effect by another new Broadway musical, Hadestown, especially musically.
Indeed, few of the songs by Eddie Perfect are anything more than serviceable in Beetlejuice, though the lyrics can be clever and funny. They can also be puerile and profane.
The book, too, by (former New York Magazine drama critic) Scott Brown and Anthony King, feels at odds with itself. At the end of “Beetlejuice,” there is a sentimental family reconciliation and also a crass, loud game show parody – reflecting the two contrasting, and conflicting, tones of the show. I suppose mentioning these could be considered spoiler, if they weren’t both so overdone and predictable.
Yet, one aspect of “Beetlejuice” does stand out — its design. This makes sense. The movie won its sole Academy Award for best makeup. Five of the seven Drama Desk Award nominationsthat Beetlejuice the musical received this afternoon were for its design, as were three of the four Outer Critics Circle Award nominations.(Both also nominated Leslie Kritzer.)
Set designer David Korins (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen) gives a Tim Burton vibe to the show, not just from Beetlejuice but from other movies Burton directed, including The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, as he offers three different versions of the Victorian house — first one being restored by the Maitlands, preservationists at heart; then the tasteless redo by Charles and Lydia, and finally the ghoulish abode inhabited by, well, ghouls, once Beetlejuice takes over. Puppet designer Mark Curry (Frozen, Young Frankenstein) brings some of the monsters from the movie to life, most effectively the giant sandworm, and creates some of his own. Jeremy Chernick and Michael Weber create the special effects, like burning hands and levitation. Costume designer William Ivey Long and projection designer Peter Nigrini do their usual spot-on spectacular jobs. As a result, when Beetlejuice suddenly replicates into a chorus line of clones, you don’t cringe, you revel in all those stripes.

For the week of 17 September 2018
Quick Bits:
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 gives us an “untold tale” of Spider-Man shortly after Secret Wars while he still had the black costume from Saladin Ahmed, Gerry Brown, Lee Loughridge, and Joe Caramagna. It’s a nice bit of embellishment, giving us a look more at the reactions from the people around Peter and what the Venom symbiote was doing while he slept. The dark, moody art from Brown and Loughridge is perfect for this.
| Published by Marvel

Avengers #8 is a bit of a housekeeping issue from Jason Aaron, taking stock of what’s changed for this new incarnation of the team, putting together the status of the various members, and setting up the new status quo. It’s nice to see David Marquez and Justin Ponsor aboard for this arc, continuing the very high bar this volume is setting for art.
| Published by Marvel

Black Hammer: Age of Doom #5 answers all of the questions, with Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston filling in all of the details in Lucy’s quest to find the missing heroes. It’s an interesting, and satisfying, revelation that sets up an even bigger picture and possible looming threat.
| Published by Dark Horse

Bloodborne #5 begins a new arc, returning to the city, and focusing on a scientific and religious inquiry into the nature of the affliction besetting the world. Wonderful art from Piotr Kowalski and Brad Simpson.
| Published by Titan

Burnouts #1 isn’t a bad start from Dennis Culver, Geoffo, Dave Dwonch, and Lauren Perry, riffing on the teen alien invasion vibe of things like The Faculty. The premise of needing to be high or otherwise intoxicated to see the true threat is an interesting one, leaving an obvious out as to whether or not it’s real, but this issue largely takes it at face value.
| Published by Image

Captain America Annual #1 is very well done. Tini Howard, Chris Sprouse, Ron Lim, Karl Story, Walden Wong, Scott Hanna, Jesus Aburtov, Erick Arciniega, Israel Silva, and Joe Caramagna give us a story set deep into World War 2 of Cap and Bucky behind German lines, helping a group of civilians who escaped from Stutthof.
| Published by Marvel

Death or Glory #5 sets fire to Glory’s life quite literally. This entire series so far has been damned good, moving at a breakneck pace pushing the characters harder and further with each subsequent issue. Rick Remender, Bengal, and Rus Wooton continue to deliver.
| Published by Image / Giant Generator

Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive #1 is a curious thing, embracing the odd stylistic choices of Chester Gould’s characters with Rich Tommaso and Mike Allred’s art, and the kind of throwback tone of Lee & Mike Allred’s script, but through the use of a cellphone it doesn’t seem to be a period piece. Still, it’s an entertaining beginning to this mini.
| Published by IDW

Ether: The Copper Golems #5 is the bittersweet end to this mini, setting up a new problem for Boone and co. to face in the third series, but in doing so putting him in an even more tragic situation, both in the present and in the flashback back-up. Matt Kindt & David Rubín have bottled magic with this series and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
| Published by Dark Horse

GI Joe: A Real American Hero - Silent Option #1 begins a new limited series following Bombstrike and her team’s investigation of the missing Helix. It’s a bit bloodier and more brutal than the mothership series, but given the subject of human trafficking, it’s kind of understandable. Larry Hama, Netho Diaz, Alisson Rodrigues, Jagdish Kumar, Vinicius Townsend, and Neil Uyetake put together a decent start here. There’s also a great back-up filling us in on Helix’s past from Ryan Ferrier & Kenneth Loh.
| Published by IDW

Hack/Slash: Resurrection #11 is the conclusion to the “Return to Haverhill” arc and it continues with the usual offbeat humour that Tini Howard has brought to the title. Mixing the horror with wacky hijinks.
| Published by Image

Ice Cream Man #7 might be one of the more horrifying issues of the series, telling the tale of a young girl coming to terms with the death of her best friend. That story alone is enough to pick up the issue, but it also brings back more of the ongoing story of the Ice Cream Man’s trials as well, giving us a bit more interconnectivity of what are otherwise mostly standalone tales.
| Published by Image

Immortal Hulk #6 sees Al Ewing working to put the disparate pieces of the run so far together, along with revealing at least one group of antagonists dogging Banner’s heels, and working Hulk back into the broader world of the Marvel Universe to deal with the ramifications that have been hovering since Civil War 2. Surprisingly, none of it is particularly confusing, which is a testament to how Ewing is laying this out. Also, really nice guest art from Lee Garbett (with colours from Paul Mounts).
| Published by Marvel

Impossible Incorporated #1 is a new all ages mini from JM DeMatteis and Mike Cavallaro. I have fond memories of their previous collaboration The Life & Times of Savior 28, so came into this with some fairly high expectations. They were exceeded. The premise for this series taps into the same family of adventurers dynamic of the Fantastic Four and Challengers of the Unknown, and it yields some interesting characters, weird landscapes, and phenomenal art.
| Published by IDW

Infinity Wars: Soldier Supreme #1 is the first of these Infinity Warps tie-in minis to the overarching Infinity Wars saga, blending together two of Marvel’s heroes in this new reality. In this case, Captain America and Doctor Strange. I’m not sure how much impact these will ultimately have on the event, but it’s a fun diversion. Gerry Duggan, Adam Kubert, Matthew Wilson, and Clayton Cowles deliver an entertaining beginning to this story, laying out Stephen Rogers’ origin and showcasing a number of other amalgamated heroes and a rather interesting villain. Kubert and Wilson’s art is definitely more than worth the price of admission.
| Published by Marvel

The Life of Captain Marvel #3 delivers more heartfelt and strange complications for Carol Danvers. I’m really enjoying the drama that Margaret Stohl is creating in this series, it’s really been injecting a real element of humanity in Carol that’s been missing for years.
| Published by Marvel

Mr. & Mrs. X #3 gives us an explanation for the egg that everybody and their bird-brained aunt are fighting over. This development is definitely very interesting for the cosmic side of things.
| Published by Marvel

Olivia Twist #1 is an updating of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, gender-bent and worked into the future, by Darin Strauss, Adam Dalva, Emma Vieceli, Lee Loughridge, and Sal Cipriano. The premise works quite well adapted to a dystopian future, with the protections of society broken down and oppression at an all time high. Although this is set in a future Britain, it’s easy to see similar conditions in America today. What really brings the book together is the artwork from Vieceli and Loughridge.
| Published by Dark Horse / Berger Books

Patience! Conviction! Revenge! #1 is the beginning to what looks to be another beautiful sci-fi epic, starting out with a bit of a western feel, before moving on to the city. I quite like the voice that Patrick Kindlon gives to the protagonist, Renny, as he doesn’t seem to shut up. Also, the artwork from Marco Ferrari and Patrizia Comino is wonderful. Ferrari has a style that reminds me of Sean Gordon Murphy and Devmalya Pramanik and it perfectly suits a lived-in future.
| Published by AfterShock

Return of Wolverine #1 is not a terrible comic. In fact the artwork from Steve McNiven, Jay Leisten, and Laura Martin is very, very good. McNiven seems to be channelling Barry Windsor-Smith for the artwork and it’s perfect. The action and page compositions are wonderful. I can also say that the story, dialogue and such, from Charles Soule is not bad. I’m not sure if I like the implied idea of pulling Wolverine’s history from him, putting the memory genie back in the bottle when we already know his Origin, is a good idea, but his issues with Persephone and Soteira are at least interesting.
What ruins this comic, however, like the Hunt for Wolverine: Dead Ends issue, is that it renders the entire Hunt for Wolverine event superfluous. It doesn’t respect the readers’ time or money, showing that Hunt for Wolverine didn’t build to anything. There’s absolutely nothing in this comic that necessitates having read anything before it. That’s good for new readers, but it’s a crappy ploy from Marvel that manufactured an empty event that seems like its sole purpose was to bilk the customer. I feel terrible saying that, since for the most part the mini-series weren’t bad in isolation, but as a whole, it just seems like a marketing stunt. When it comes to a character like Wolverine, who has previously been associated with the idea of market oversaturation, it’s just worse.
From Marvel Legacy through to now, it doesn’t feel like there’s been any guiding hand. It doesn’t feel like there’s been any coherence between any of the appearances. It just feels like Marvel turning to some of their worst tendencies in making this past year or so a marketing ploy, tarnishing something that possibly could have been special, and ruining the return of Wolverine. Wolverine’s still dead, Marvel’s just pimping a corpse.
| Published by Marvel

Seven to Eternity #11 checks in on Adam’s family at the farm while he’s hanging around with the Mud King. Like every issue, beautiful, stunning artwork from Jerome Opeña and Matt Hollingsworth, somehow outdoing themselves with the brilliant colour schemes and impressive character designs. Also, I love the biting, almost subtle, humour that Rick Remender employs for the Mud King’s dialogue.
| Published by Image / Giant Generator

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #86 begins the Earth Protection Force’s assault on Burnow Island, the new home to the Triceratons and Utroms. The action depicted by a returning Dave Wachter (with colours by Ronda Pattison) is very nice, even as we get some interesting moral and ethical hemming and hawing from both the Turtles and Burnow’s defenders as they choose whether or not to release their war criminals to help fight against the EPF. This feels like the beginning of something very heavy.
| Published by IDW

Thor #5 resumes the King Thor story from the first issue, in the far-flung future, with a reunion between Thor and Logan. It’s not quite as bonkers a story from Jason Aaron as the opening Niffleheim arc, but it’s certainly up there. I almost get the impression that Aaron and Donny Cates are seeing how far they push the cosmic envelope at Marvel right now, between their respective series. In any event, it’s led to some great storytelling. Especially when you add guest artist Christian Ward, who just makes this a must buy.
| Published by Marvel

Venom #6 is a not-so-subtle reminder that the art team of Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles are absolute beasts. Every issue of this series has been impeccably crafted so far and I swear that this one ups the ante. Gorgeous work from the team.
| Published by Marvel

West Coast Avengers #2 is more ridiculous fun. If you liked the first issue, this is more of that, with some even more over-the-top shenanigans with the team, as they try to get to the bottom of BRODOK. Kelly Thompson’s dialogue and humour here are a highlight, reminding me of some of best of Keith Giffen and JM DeMatteis’ work on the bwahaha era of the Justice League. A book that doesn’t take itself too seriously is a nice balm these days. Also, gorgeous artwork again from Stefano Caselli and Tríona Farrell.
| Published by Marvel
