dungeon meshi x tiger & bunny
a still wip dungeon meshi tnb au. maybe ill draw stuff up for it in the future? who knows.
Kotetsu, Subaru, Agnes, Ryan, Keith (Tall-men) Barnaby, Karina, Thomas (Elf) Lara (Half-elf) Pao-lin (Half-foot) Ivan (Half-foot/Wolf Beast-man) Antonio (Ogre) Nathan (Dwarf)
To hide identities of the adventurers on Dungeon TV they wear entirely different outfits from what they usually wear as well. Full body hero suits are instead full suits of armor that don’t really show the face. For cameras they have fairies that watch and broadcast the adventurers in the dungeon. The point system is based on the types of monsters they beat (dragons being the highest amount of points possible) and rescuing other adventurers can result in points also.
Kotetsu T. Kaburagi: A tall-man who left home to help support his family after his wife passed away. He’s been a part of Dungeon TV for a while even before her passing and continues to be a part of it to help clear the dungeon of any potential danger for others. His first death was from slime (during his early adventurer days.) Kotetsu comes from an eastern village on the Northern Continent, he currently lives on The Island.
Barnaby Brooks Jr.: An elf who’s searching for who killed his parents. Barnaby’s parents were a part of the research facility of the Canaries and he was wanting to join to be like them before they were murdered while he was still young. Started searching all over the continent and anything from the Canaries for any sort of information on who killed his parents while under Maverick’s guidance/guardianship. He became a part of Dungeon TV from Maverick recommending it to him to get his face out to the world to continue his search. His first death was from a golem during his debut with Kotetsu as his partner.
Albert Maverick: Barnaby’s step-father/caretaker for his entire life. He appears to take on the form of a dwarf and helped give Barnaby the idea to make his debut to find the people who killed his parents. He is the one in charge of keeping things in order at the Dungeon that Dungeon TV films their show in, so he rarely leaves it. In truth though, the real reason he doesn’t leave the dungeon is because his true identity is that of the demon of desires. His true intent and goal of taking in Barnaby was to make him the lord of the dungeon. He was also the one who killed Barnaby’s parents as they found out who he really is.

TIGER & BUNNY POSTING
NEW FIC UPLOADED TO AO3
Title: Moving On in a Maelstrom
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/50504920
Rating: M
Pairings: Kotetsu/Barnaby, Nathan/Keith, Agnes/Antonio, Karina/Ryan... just for starters >:)
Summary:
Heroes have been reinstated by the Justice Bureau, but life will never be the same. Stern Bild is in a new period of reconstruction after the arrest of Greogory Sunshine and the end of the X riots, but an uneasy restlessness has fallen over the city and tensions have never been more strained. On top of it all, Kotetsu finds himself struggling to adjust to his new life apart from the heroes as a civilian, surrounded every day by bitter reminders of what used to be. And yet, the iron is still hot. The shadow of Ouroboros hangs heavy over Stern Bild. And sometimes, heroes can be found in the most unlikely of people.

how i think Inasa would fare in other super hero fandoms that I can remember, if I'm missing other fandoms tell me!
Tiger and Bunny- sponsored top hero! the next sky high! the room never shuts up if you put him together with Keith. Runs together with the dog. baby sitter of Kaeda sometimes. Agnes worries he's too dumb for show biz.
Marvel- Avengers Academy! Quits it after the whole stupid x-men vs Avengers thing. Is a mutant himself and can become omega level. tends to worry other super hero teams and spiderman because of how earnest he is but he took classes on how to rescue people.
Parahuman/Worm- Kenta younger adopted brother! prevented him from going through villain but still moved to Brockton Bay. Got his powers from losing Japan to Leviathan. Prevents a few important awakenings though in school due to his good personality. actually well liked since a lot of people know he can't really hurt people intentionally....as far as they know .
Justice League- the first solo hero of his age1 well in honest theres not a lot of weather base heroes. Inspired by Superman though.

Tigers, dragons, and, monsters on a Shang Dynasty Ewer, May 15, 2021
Lidded ritual ewer (guang) with taotie, dragons, birds, tigers, elephants, fish, snakes, and humans, Shang Dynasty, Middle Yangzi Valley, China, c. 1100–1050 B.C.E., bronze, 31.4 x 31.5 x 14.4 cm (Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC; Gift of Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer, F1961.33a-b) A conversation with Keith Wilson, Curator of Ancient Chinese art, and Beth Harris Smarthistory
Ritual wine ewer (gong) with masks (taotie), dragons, and real animals, ca. 1100-1050 BCE
Late Anyang period, probably late Shang dynasty
Bronze
H x W x D: 32.2 × 32.2 × 15.7 cm (12 11/16 × 12 11/16 × 6 3/16 in)
This extraordinary vessel bristles with life, from the birds at the front and on the handles, to the humans wrapped in snakes on the back legs. Most likely made in southern China, it seems to offer a view of a spirit world in constant movement and flux.
This interestingly shaped ewer, a vase-shaped pitcher, is called a guang ("gwang") in Chinese. It is designed as a pouring vessel. The broad, raised spout aligns with a vertical handle at the back. It ingeniously combines a handful of fantastic beasts into its form. At the front of the vessel is a horned bird with a hooked beak. Its wings, composed of coiled dragons, cover its flanks. The space between these areas is filled with matching pairs of dragons, reptiles, and birds. The handle also takes the shape of a standing bird, its head caught in the jaws of a horned beast. It divides the animal mask —taotie —into halves. Find one of its staring eyes. Below it is a snout and open mouth. The creature has the head of a snake man in either side of its mouth. The lid is decorated with two prominent animal masks: a ram head at the front and a buffalo head at the back. See if you can identify the animals that form their horns and fill the area between the two bodiless heads. Collection of the National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian

Does anyone have any prompts for some Yuri-centric for any silly/fluffy fanfic I should write?
My usual ships are:
Yuri x Keith
Yuri x Kotetsu
Yuri x Agnes
... but anything is alright so long as its legal/moral!
I also like these headcanons/dynamics (platonic ONLY!!):
Yuri being a father figure to Kaede
Yuri secretly enjoying Ivan's blog
Yuri being a secret fan of Blue Rose's music
Open to any and all suggestions!!😄

Tiger and bunny season 2 rights because they went from showing Nathan harassing Antonio to giving him an absolutely cute and respectful partnership with Keith.
Also, I think the comics are amazing and the ship Antonio x Agnes is the best thing.

A Mini Meta: What’s In A Name? (1.5/?)
So Like, I do a bunch of research for my metas and in pursuit of this one, I’ve had to learn wayyyy too much about each character’s name and meanings/origins. But because there’s no real place for me to put them in my planned metas, and I still have all this information to info-dump, here it is! A master list of all the character’s >probable< meanings. Consider this a Mini-Meta.
Find Part 1 Here: (X)
Our Ineffable Duo
Aziraphale:
Note: Azrael, a possible interpretation of his name, means “one who God helps” and is often attributed to the Angel of Death.
Anthony J. Crowley:
The elephant in the room with Crowley is “Crawley” and all I’m going to say about it is that Crowley’s right, it’s too “crawling on the ground-y sounding”.
Anthony, on the other hand, means “of inestimable worth”, which I feel is a good balance to his deadname. Crowley deserves this and every ego boost. Someone give him a hug.
The name “Crowley”’s meaning is at most Gaelic for heroic, although from a demonic standpoint, there is also no one-for-one model. There is an Aleister Crowley but he’s a real person who is known as the “evilest man to ever live” or some such moniker. But there is no connection between the demon and the person. I’d even argue that by giving himself a “J” Crowley puts distance between himself and Aleister.
Note: Although Supernatural also sports a “Crowley” character, Good Omens predates the TV-Show and so no connection can honestly be made.
The Them
Adam Young:
Adam’s name has many significant implications beyond just sharing it with the first man and first person to leave Eden. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell ya’ll that in Akkadian, the word stems from the word “Adamu” which translates to “to make”. And I find this phenomenally relevant to his naming and unnaming powers.
Pippin “Pepper” Moonchild:
I have SOOOO much to say about the implications of nicknames, but for this mini-meta, I’ll just leave you with this: Pippin loosely means foreigner, and while that doesn’t really connect with her character much, neither does the name Pippin so I feel that works.
Pepper, however, simply means “berry”, but I think on a much more literal level the name “Pepper” refers to her firey and passionate sensibilities.
Brian I-Couldn’t-Find-A-Last-Name:
Brian loosely means “noble one” and given he’s ready to throw down against even his best friend if it meant saving the world and standing up to an all-powerful 11-year-old with immeasurable supernatural abilities with a crow-bar. I’d call that pretty noble.
Jeremy Wensleydale:
This name took an outrageous amount to time for me to research. I’m not touching Jeremy, because literally, no one calls him it, it has no power over him. Wensleydale, however, refers to a real place in England, apparently, they’re known for their cheeses. Here, “dale” refers to a town and “Wensley” is valley named after the god “Woden” AKA Odin, AKA Norse god of wisdom and culture and war. Which Idk how closely he’s related to Odin, I do think the wisdom and class resonate with Wensleydale’s character. Of all the Them, he’s the most bookish, and most overt with his love of books.
The Angels
Michael:
Literally means “Who is like God” in Hebrew, and is the only named Archangel in the Bible. I find it interesting that this name is meant to be a rhetorical question, meaning no one is like God. However, Heaven clearly has, let’s say, ignored this question and ruled as if they are God.
Gabriel:
God’s Messanger, whose name means “God is my strength”, which, I think he takes to an extreme. Yes, he clearly gets his power from his belief God has ordained a war he will win, but more than that, he also seems convinced that all of his >abusive< actions are blessed by God, despite the series making it very clear, she isn’t talking to anyone.
Uriel:
“God is My Light”. Like Gabriel, I find this name infinitely amusing because yes, Uriel has a fiery personality like Pepper, short-tempered, and ready for a fight, little they do is actually from the mouth of God. Uriel is also closely associated with Noah’s Ark, reportedly being the angel who warns Noah and his family of the impending flood. Although we can’t know if they did or did not question killing the kids like Crowley and Aziraphale did, as it wasn’t on screen, based on their other actions, I’m gonna say no.
Sandalphon:
Note: It’s interesting that his name is wholly dependent on the existence of “brothers” and implies he serves as a mirroring character...of whom idk yet.
Metatron:
Although MANY theologians have argued over the meaning of this name, the most popular definition means “beside the throne”, and refers to the person next to God’s Throne. This works well as he is shown to be the mediator between God’s word and the Angels. This is less good because he clearly hasn’t talked to, or isn’t willing to let others talk to God.
The Demons
Ligur:
So, Ligur is not a canonical demon. Consequently, his name has no set meaning. He’s not a “real” demon with a 1-for-1 equivalent floating through Hell. My best guess is that it’s a reference to a Chuthulu Mythological Race “Lloigor” which is known for being invisible, but when they do show themselves, are distinctly reptilic. Which, I think vibes well with the chameleon on top of his head.
Hastur:
Note: A strict etymological breakdown of the name is associated with “chaos” and is meant to denote one who revels in destruction for destruction’s sake. It’s also very fitting for Hastur, given his desire to cause fiery chaos. Like Metatron, there are many interpretations you can find here: (x).
Beelzebub:
Note: Beelzebub is a real demon with a fascinating mythos you can read more about here (x). Seriously, ya’ll I have a million citations, please hmu if you want more info.
Note 2: Also! Also! Also, Beezlebub makes an appearance in Lovecraftian stories and Chuthulu mythos.
Dagon:
Note: Dagon makes a few appearances in Lovecraft’s work...there’s a short story called “Dagon”... and while they’re often not included in the Chuthulu mythos, the short story “Dagon” is the first to introduce Chuthulu-like elements...so? #canon in my eyes.
The Humans
Anathema Device:
Anathema is pretty straight forward. The name refers to someone who is detested or shunned. But more Bible-related-y Anathema refers either to something that was consecrated or to someone denounced as evil or accursed and therefore set aside for sacrificial offering. Which, is pretty much the role of Anathema. Her family has chosen to sacrifice her and her freedom in exchange to stop the end of the world. While I wouldn’t call her evil or cursed, she is definitely detested (as a witch) by the Witchfinders and Adultery Pulsifer.
Agnes Nutter:
Alternatively: Agnes Sampson was a Scottish healer and purported witch known as the "Wise Wife of Keith". Sampson was burned in the North Berwick witch trials.
Alternatively: Agnes Waterhouse was the first person executed for witchcraft in England (1566). However, she was hanged, not burned like Sampson and Nutter.
Newton Pulsifer:
Like the character himself, Newton’s name is pretty unremarkable. It means “New Town”. Not much depth to his name. However, a “Newt” does have some religious imagery attached to its name. It supposedly symbolizes rebirth and renewal, which flows with his character arc.
Madame Tracy:
Tracy refers to “Warrior” and can sometimes mean “superior to” and “more powerful”. All of these seem to fit with a woman willing to share her body with an Angel and stand at the end of the world without flinching. Also, she clearly overrode Aziraphale’s choice to shoot a child and refused to do something she couldn’t and wouldn’t do. she’s a badass.
Shadwell:
Shadwell means a shallow spring, but it is also a place in West London. Given Shadwell’s naming strategies I’d actually not be too surprised if he just named himself after a street name he saw. He’s not too creative.
Warlock Dowling:
Warlock means “Deceiver” and like if that’s not his life story. Through no real fault of his own, he spends the first 11 years of his life as the prophecized Anti-Christ by Heaven, Hell, and our ineffable Duo. I suppose you could say he deceived them, but really, I think it’s hilariously on the nose as he’s the not-Anti-Christ.
Harriet Dowling:
Harriet is of French origin, and means “estate ruler” and as the diplomat’s wife, I think it’s fair to say she rules the huge estate we see in the series.
Thaddeus Dowling:
Thaddeus is likely Greek meaning “heart” and surprisingly (maybe only to me) in the Gospel of Matthew, appears as one of the apostles, although later in the Gospel the name “Jude” is also mentioned, and likely is referencing the same person.
Sister Mary Loquacious:
“Mary” often translates to beloved or rebellious, while Loquacious refers to “talkative” which, man. I kinda love it, because she’s one of the characters who not only talks alot (relative to her short time on-screen) but also is a sweetheart.
Diedre Young:
Diedre is a young Gaelic princess who died of a broken heart, although its etymology could also just mean “young girl”. Little is relevant to the larger arching story.
Arthur Young:
“Arthur” is Celtic for King, and legends from the round table (and some references from Ep. 3) aside, little about his name seems relevant to the story.

@margaretbeaufort said: I’d be happy to help out! I spend way to much time puzzling over headresses.
Thanks! Any insight at all would be a help- and it’s just a personal wondering thing not like an academic project or anything so an exact answer isn’t essential. Basically, I’ve been wondering what headdresses, specifically of normal noblewomen (lairdly to ducal level, less so royalty), might have looked like in late fifteenth and early sixteenth century Scotland (specifically between about 1430 and 1530, and aside from what little people have been able to extrapolate from the records about the rise of French hoods). Problem we have almost nothing to go on, especially artistically, since almost all Scottish painting from this period has been lost or destroyed, and the stuff that survives doesn’t tell you much about ordinary people (i.e., it’s royalty or biblical scenes where people are meant to look outlandish). And one tantalising quote from the Spanish ambassador Pedro de Ayala in 1498 where he claimed that, in his personal opinion, the headdress (as if there was only one which seems unlikely) in use in Scotland was particularly attractive:
“They dress much better than here (England), and especially as regards the head-dress, which is, I think, the handsomest in the world.”
I suppose we could also scan the poetry of the period (Dunbar, Lindsay, e.t.c.) and see what they give us, like in Henryson’s (c.1460-1500) ‘Garmont of Gud Ladeis’:
“Of he honour suld be hir hud Upoun hir heid to weir. Garneist with govirnance so gud, Na demyng suld hir deir.”
(”Of high honour should be her hood
Upon her head to wear
Garnished with governance so good,
No suspicion should harm her”)
and
“Hir belt suld be of benignitie Abowt hir middill meit, Hir mantill of humilitie To tholl bayth wind and weit. Hir hat suld be of fair having And hir tepat of trewth, Hir patelet of gud pansing, Hir hals ribbane of rewth.”
(Her belt should be of kindness
About her middle meet,
Her mantle of humility
To withstand both wind and wet.
Her hat should be of fair bearing
And her tippet of truth
Her partlet of good thoughts,
Her neck ribbon of pity.” - Loose translations mine and not the best as done in a rush
And I know art is misleading anyway, but it’s sometimes the best way of visualising things. What we have is 1- the Trinity Altarpiece, from the 1470s, but that’s of a foreign queen (Margaret of Denmark) and it’s thought that the figures were painted in the Low Countries anyway and the faces made more accurate in Scotland; 2- for the years 1503-1541 paintings and copies of paintings of another foreign queen, the English Margaret Tudor (see page 9/301 in this article, and aside from this picture usually shown wearing French hoods in other, usually later copies of portaits, the most famous being the seventeenth century portrait by Mytens, or depictions of her when she was young in England before 1503 (x)); and 3, later sixteenth century depictions of Scotswomen and French or English women in Scotland who show that court fashions in paintings at least seem to have kept pace with wider European fashion, but then court fashion is not exactly the ordinary person’s clothing. Nonetheless, even getting an idea of what court dress might have looked would be great, especially before 1530, since we have very little to go on.
So I tried to think of any other ways we might be able to get an impression of how fashion might have looked, but, even though I know where to find sources as a Scottish history person, I wouldn’t necessarily be able to make head nor tail or those sources since I’m not well-up in fashion history- for example, I can read clothing and livery payments in the Treasurer’s accounts (one of the main surviving sources of royal expenditure) very easily since they’re in Scots and know something about what cloth might be favoured but I couldn’t put all the various pieces of what was purchased together in my head to form an idea of what it might look like without a lot of work.
So I suppose there’s some early documentary sources like that- the Treasurer’s Accounts unfortunately does give an impression only for the elites, and are fragmentary, but we do have some clothing accounts for people like Margaret of Denmark (Queen of Scots, 1469-1486, the account is from 1473-4, but there’s only a few mentions relating to headdresses for things like kerchiefs in there), James III’s sister Margaret Stewart (lived quietly in Haddington), some of James IV’s mistresses like Janet Kennedy and Margaret Drummond and his illegitimate daughter Margaret Stewart, Lady Gordon (and her companions), ladies in waiting to Margaret Tudor (both her English ladies and Scotswomen who were given gifts of clothing when they attended on her) and other servants and women of the court. Most of the volumes of the Treasurer’s Accounts are available online for this period (x, x, x, x, x - thank you Victorian printing enthusiasts, and digitisation) as are the Exchequer Records, so I can always look them up whenever, and there’s also the occasional will or inventory or set of burgh or noble accounts for the period but they’re not always so accessible- the issue is that, while the Scots is easy enough to follow for me, I can’t always understand very well how the various pieces of clothing fit together- though main words used are generally ‘tippet’ and kerchief. (This may also be useful for obscure terms- the dictionary of old scots).
Either way they give quite an elite and partial view. Another way we might find images is in doodles at the side of important administrative documents and books (the Treasurer’s Accounts again has one or two), but it would take a long time to go through something like that.
What I did wonder though is whether tomb effigies might be useful since we don’t have many paintings. I’m sure these could also be dodgy evidence, since they’re meant to present an Image to the viewer, and we don’t have many of them left either (and we have no monumental brasses of the period, which are such a great visual source in England) but they’re better than nothing.
Unfortunately not being in Scotland I can’t see many of them myself at the moment, and have to rely on sketches made by artists a century ago who seemed more interested in the men’s armour, but I did wonder about one (or several). Some, particularly of noblewomen who were married to lords of parliament and above, and especially those for the period 1200-1400 have headdresses that look very much like identifiable headdresses in use elsewhere in Europe. But some, for the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, and especially for women who were married to minor nobility and prominent townsmen, who were important in the regions, show a simpler piece of headgear like these:
John Houston- a Renfrewshire laird (not the same as a lord, but like minor landed gentry) who died around 1456- and his wife Agnes Campbell.
Gilbert Menzies of Pitfoddels (another laird) and his wife Marjory Liddel- Gilbert died c.1459). Were moved to St Nicholas Kirk, Aberdeen, so from the vicinity of the modern city.
Another one from St Nicholas Kirk, Aberdeen, John Collison (provost of the city c.1521) and his wife Margaret Setoun.
A slightly different but interesting one from Falkirk, a lord and lady callendar from the early sixteenth century.
- Source for these
I can also remember seeing more in St Nicholas Kirk the one time I was there, with similar headdresses, a bit like this one of Elizabeth Keith on the Irvine of Drum tomb (c.1457) that someone has managed to get a picture of x, x, x.
SO! This long preamble aside (and my questions is more about these effigies, the preamble with literary and expenditure sources is just in case they might be useful), I’m wondering about this sort of simple headdress with the sort of padded ring and a veil underneath, and sometimes with this decorated stuff nearer the ears, if that’s what I’m seeing. It doesn’t look very unusual but it also isn’t what I’d really think of straight away when I think of late fifteenth century headgear- I’d have been thinking more stuff like this comparatively good example from Borthwick (mid-fifteenth century?), or this one of Beatrice Sinclair, Countess of Douglas (mid-fifteenth century- source), or even (for those at the highest end of society, countesses and queens and the like), something like what Margaret of Denmark is modelling in the Trinity Altarpiece, or one of those steep hennins and butterfly headdresses. But obviously these women are slightly lower on the social scale (though still important in their local areas and fit to associate with court if called to).
Firstly, is there ANY use at all in funeral effigies? Secondly, do you know of any good similar cases to these headdresses, since I’m assuming that something quite simple could have been in use among minor nobility and merchant classes across northern Europe? If not what kind of headdress would be worn by the wives of minor gentry and richer merchants in England, Scandinavia or the Low Countries, at least if they were dressed in their best clothes (i.e. for funeral monument, e.t.c.)? Thirdly, what would I call it (padded stuff and veil doesn’t really work)? The first and last ones are also quite intriguing but the middle ones are more common among the ones I’ve seen. And lastly really, any other interesting insight you may have- I have to imagine they’re not particularly unique, but I’d like to know how widespread they would be and who would generally wear them (also if there are any images of them that aren’t worn away stone).
As I say though it’s quite a specific query but also not one I desperately need answered as it isn’t for like an academic reason, just my own ponderings. I’m going to need to start paying attention to merchants’ and minor gentry’s tombs and monumental brasses more outside of Scotland (though the ones I’ve seen in England so far are not like this and I can’t think of any I saw in the Netherlands, but they were generally of higher status figures).
Apologies for the long post, I think I needed to get it all off my chest. But as I say any knowledge (or if you just have related stuff you need to rant about and might be only tangentially related) would be much appreciated, no matter how small, if you have the time.
(Oh one last thing- if you happen to know what a tippet would look like when worn by a high-ranking late fifteenth century or sixteenth century noblewoman, I would love to know, because I’m thinking more thirteenth century liripipes worn by Robin Hood-esque yeomen every time it’s mentioned).

Chivalry
T; 1.3k Ryan, Keith/Agnes
Ryan is perfectly well aware that Agnes doesn't need 'rescuing' from anyone at the gala - however rude or sharp-tongued he may be - but he was raised right; ladies shouldn't have to deal with such idiots if they don't want to. And if it gives him an opportunity to playfully flirt with a beautiful woman, well, that's only a bonus.

off the rack #1291
Monday, December 9, 2019
Thank Thor for Santa's little helper. We're about as ready for Christmas as I'll ever be. Penny is leaving soon for her annual drive up north to visit family and friends while I make sure all the lights I strung don't burn down the house. I finally got around to watching the animated feature "Big Hero 6" last night and was delighted by it.
Superman Up In The Sky #6 - Tom King (writer) Andy Kubert (pencils) Sandra Hope (inks) Brad Anderson (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). Oh man, this story has the most inept villain ever. We find out why Alice was kidnapped by an alien. I liked the trip back to Earth. Kids say the darnedest things.
Daredevil #14 - Chip Zdarsky (writer) Marco Checchetto & Francesco Mobili (art) Nolan Woodard (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Detective Cole North is conflicted after talking about the law over coffee with Matt. Meanwhile the Police Commissioner has ordered his cops not to go into Hell's Kitchen, leading to rampant crime. It's time for the return of Daredevil and Elektra is going to be tagging along. This is going to be good.
Young Justice #11 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) John Timms (art) Gabe Eltaeb (colours) Wes Abbott (letters). The team is back in their home dimension and they meet Naomi for the first time. Great time for a sleepover eh. Things go south when Superboy gets punked by the S.T.A.R. Labs lady. I can't wait to see what Brian Bendis does with Mike Grell's Warlord.
Archie #709 - Nick Spencer & Mariko Tamaki (writers) Sandy Jarrell (artist) Matt Herms (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). The 5-part story of Archie's romance with Sabrina comes to an end. I am happy with the outcome.
Savage Avengers #8 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Patch Zircher (art) Java Tartaglia (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). I love the clash of egos in this issue. Conan dines with Doom and Stephen crashes dinner. The three then go off looking for Kulan Gath. Hey, how else is the bad guy supposed to get his all powerful amulet back? I'm guessing it's another Doombot that runs afoul of the ancient wizard because heaven forbid they kill Doctor Doom again. Don't forget Doom died outside the UN in NYC and got shot dead by Taskmaster.
Ironheart #12 - Eve L. Ewing (writer) Luciano Vecchio (art) Geoffo (layouts) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). The good guys beat the bad guys and Wakanda is saved. The End. I've followed Riri Williams since she was first created by Brian Michael Bendis and I am sad that she will no longer have her own book on the racks. The crew that put out these twelve issues did Brian proud.
Web of the Black Widow #4 - Jody Houser (writer) Stephen Mooney (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). It's a wounded Widow that opens this issue and we find out how that happens. Clint/Hawkeye the hothead acts before he has all the facts and Natasha pays the price. She winds up dead to rights and possibly dead period. I know she'll save herself and I want to see how she does it.
Batman #84 - Tom King (writer) Jorge Fornes (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). There are a mind boggling number of flashbacks this issue trying to explain what the ding dong heck is going on. It all leads to the confrontation of father and son with Thomas and Bruce Wayne fighting for the fate of Batman. I don't think everything is going to change after Tom King leaves this book but man, is he ever stirring the pot.
The Amazing Spider-Man #35 - Nick Spencer (writer) Oscar Bazaldua (art) Steve Firchow (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This is the story where Doctor Doom was assassinated in front of the UN. Now the real Doctor Doom is pissed and has shut down New York City until the assassin is brought to him. Spider-Man finds the culprit with the help of his sister Theresa. They try to trick Victor in the end but he doesn't fall for it. It's a classic cliffhanger ending.
Doctor Doom #3 - Christopher Cantwell (writer) Salvador Larroca (art) Guru-eFX (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). So this Doc Doom is different from the one in The Amazing Spider-Man #35 even though they were both shot to start a war between Latveria and Symkaria. This is the real one. I really liked how Victor makes Mephisto his whipping boy. The surprise ending made me groan. And that's not to mention the inconsistency between panels 2 and 4 on page one. Very bad editing.
Marauders #3 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Michele Bandini (pencils) Michele Bandini & Elisabetta D'Amico (inks) Federico Blee (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This X-book is for fans of political intrigue. The Black King, Sebastian Shaw inducts his resurrected son Shinobi into the Hellfire Club. Consider this X-Men: Game of Thrones. This is a lot more interesting than watching Kitty sail around rescuing other mutants.
Lois Lane #6 - Greg Rucka (writer) Mike Perkins (art) Gabe Eltaeb (colours) Simon Bowland (letters). Wow if the funeral for (spoiler alert) Alfred is as well done as this funeral for Lois's father it will be well worth the read. Lois has come a long way since she first appeared in comic books.
Annihilation - Scourge Fantastic Four #1 - Christos Gage (writer) Diego Olortegui (pencils) Juan Vlasco, Cam Smith & Scott Hanna (inks) Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). The team goes to the Negative Zone to help fight the scourge from the Cancerverse and encounter the Ftaghn Four, infected versions of themselves. I knew it was a ftaghn bad idea to read these one shots. The art was nice though.
20XX #1 - Jonathan Luna & Lauren Keely (writers) Jonathan Luna (art & letters). This new black & white book takes place in a future where a deadly virus either kills you or gives you special mind control powers if you survive. Survivors are designated Syms and are monitored by the government like sex offenders. It is illegal to use your powers so Syms have to be careful. Meria Bree Moore is a recent Sym and this is her story. I have yet to be disappointed by anything Jonathan Luna has done and this is no exception. Rest assured that I will want to read the rest of this story.
Black Cat #7 - Jed MacKay (writer) Travel Foreman (art) Brian Reber (colours) Ferran Delgado (letters). This is an excellent issue where Felicia rescues the Fox from the clutches of Odessa. Unfortunately the inconsistent art was very distracting. They should have found an inker to render Travel's pencils.
Batman Universe #6 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Nick Derington (art) Dave Stewart (colours) A Larger World's Troy Peteri (letters). I liked how Batman used deductive reasoning to get out of his white prison. It could have been an uh-oh situation when Vandal Savage gets his hands on the White Power Ring but he was set up to fail quite cleverly. I've noticed that there's always an "AGH" in every comic book that Brian writes and when Bruce Wayne asks the Riddler where Vandal Savage, AKA Vandar Adg is I had to say "har".
Conan Serpent War #1 - Jim Zub (writer) Scot Eaton (pencils) Scott Hanna (inks) Frank D'Armata (colours) Vanesa R. Del Rey (art: James Allison sequence) Jean-Francois Beaulieu (colours: James Allison sequence) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). Conan must face the serpent god Set but this time he's going to be teamed up with other heroes. There's Moon Knight, Solomon Kane and Dark Agnes (because another company has the rights to Red Sonja I'm sure). Jim writes in a style similar to Robert E. Howard so this was an enjoyable read. The art isn't bad and I liked the homage to Barry Smith with Conan's horned helmet and necklace. Let's see how many times the Cimmerian exclaims "by Crom" in this story.
Thor: The Worthy #1 - This one-shot would be right at home on the racks in the nineteen seventies. There are three tales of others who have been deemed worthy of wielding the hammer.
"Beyond the Field We Know…" by Walt Simonson (writer) Mike Hawthorne (pencils) Sal Buscema (inks) Tamra Bonvillain (colours) & John Workman (letters) has Beta Ray Bill teamed up with the Lady Sif to fight a rock troll. I forgot that those two were romantically linked in the past.
"Hearts of Stone, Feet of Clay" by Tom DeFalco (writer) Ron Frenz (plot & pencils) Keith Williams (inks) Rachelle Rosenberg (colours) & VC's Clayton Cowles (letters) features Eric Masterson as Thunderstrike versus the Grey Gargoyle. This tale was cheesy with the inclusion of the police strike force Code: Blue. They tried to give it a modern twist by having a lesbian couple in the story.
And finally "Rules of Reflection" by Kathryn Immonen (writer) Tom Reilly (art) Chris O'Halloran (colours) & VC's Clayton Cowles (letters) sees the Lady Sif figuring out that the new female Thor is really Jane Foster. It's in the last words Sif says to Thor in the last panel of the second to last page. Har.
X-Men #3 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Leinil Francis Yu (pencils) Gerry Alanguilan & Leinil Francis Yu (inks) Sunny Gho & Rain Beredo (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). I've been waiting for new super villains to show up to challenge the X-Men and this issue delivers. Meet the not so helpless little old ladies of Hordeculture, average age 71. Agrochemist Augusta Bromes, bioengineer Opal Vetiver, geneticist Lily Leymus and botanical engineer Edith Scutch. They want to return planet earth to it's pristine Garden of Eden condition by eliminating most of humanity. I like them.
Annihilation - Scourge Nova #1 - Matthew Rosenberg (writer) Ibraim Roberson (art) Carlos Lopez (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This was better than the FF one-shot that hit the racks at the same time. I got a few chuckles catching up with Richard Rider. You don't even have to know anything about this cosmic super hero because the first three pages explain his entire existence up to this point. My enjoyment of this made me want to check out the Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill one-shots that will hit the racks December 11.
