Rest in Peace, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau
On August 29, 2024, NHL player, Johnny Gaudreau, and his younger brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed by a reckless driver while they were riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey.
They were in town for their younger sister's wedding, which was scheduled to take place on August 30, 2024. Since their passing, their have been numerous memorials and vigils for the brothers, and countless stories about how generous, kind, and loving these brothers were to their friends, family, and to strangers.
Johnny Gaudreau, known in the hockey community as Johnny Hockey, spent eight seasons playing for the Calgary Flames before shocking everyone, including the Columbus Blue Jackets, by signing a 7-year contract with CBJ. He was just about to begin his third season with the Blue Jackets.
Although Johnny was only 5'9", he was a giant on the ice and he proved that you don't have to be a big player to make a huge impact.
Off the ice, family was everything to Johnny and him and his wife, Meredith Gaudreau, have two children together, Noa and Johnny.
Matthew Gaudreau was also a professional hockey player. He was given a contract to play overseas but decided to end his playing career when he missed his family too much. He transitioned to a hockey coach and was a head coach of their high school team in New Jersey. He made an impact on those he coached, as well as those around the community, who remember him as a kind and caring person who put his family first.
Matthew and his wife, Madeline Gaudreau, were together for over 14 years and were expecting their first child together, son Tripp Matthew Gaudreau. A GoFundMe has been established to assist Madeline and baby Tripp.
The funeral for the brothers is set to take place in Pennsylvania tomorrow, September 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. The Columbus Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames will be live streaming the service on their website.
Rest in Peace, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. Your spirit and memories will live on. Praying for their family, friends, and the hockey community. We stand together during this difficult time.

Scenes from the 2019 USWNT Championship Parade
For the second Women’s World Cup in a row, the U.S. Women’s National Team got to celebrate their win with a parade in New York City. The team was still in a party mood as they celebrated with fans who lined the streets to cheer on their team. It was an overall festive mood and you could tell the players were all having a lot of fun, especially Kelley O’Hara who jumped off the float to hug fans who brought her a beer. It’s great to see the team getting so much support and hopefully this excitement around women’s soccer continues!
Check out some of the pictures from the parade below!

Team USA Wins the 2019 Women’s World Cup!
The U.S. Women’s National Team has done it again and earned a fourth star on their jerseys after defeating Netherlands 2-0 in the Women’s World Cup final. This year’s team was surrounded by a lot of criticism as to whether their defense would be strong enough, or whether Alyssa Naeher would be able to come up big when needed. Even throughout the tournament, they faced a lot of criticism, some possibly warranted in the way they chose to celebrate each goal in a 13-0 thrashing against Thailand in the tournament opener, and of course politics was brought into it too. There were also questionable calls throughout the tournament, which happens in every major tournament, but perhaps more scrutinized here because it was the first major tournament in which VAR was utilized. However, after all of it, team USA silenced everyone when they earned the trophy beating Spain, France, and England before finally defeating Netherlands.
Netherlands was able to keep USA off the board for the entire first half, which was the first time that had happened in this tournament. However, although the scoreline looked like the game was close, it was Netherlands’ goalie, Sari van Veenendaal who made some amazing saves and kept them in the game. Right before the end of the first half, there was a scary moment when Lieke Martens and Kelley O’Hara collided heads going for a ball. Both remained down for a few minutes and it looked like O’Hara got the worst of it, as she looked visibly shaken and possibly concussed. She was replaced after halftime by Ali Krieger, while Lieke Martens remained in the game until the 70′ when she was replaced by Jill Roord.
USA opened the scoring in the 61′ after Megan Rapinoe converted on a penalty kick after Stefanie van der Gragt made a horrible defensive error in the box trying to defend against an incoming run by Alex Morgan. 8 minutes later, Rose Lavelle scored a great goal to put the team up 2-0 and basically secured the win for the team. Netherlands is a young team that will continue to get better but they just weren’t able to sustain any pressure in this game, and USA showed how dominant they truly are in the sport.
The world is catching up but Team USA will continue to be one of the dominant teams and they proved that they are still the best in the world. Congratulations to Team USA and their fans on another World Cup win!
Check out some of the pictures from the World Cup Final below!
