Mostly tweaked Keahi and Viktorias design but it was still fun to revise and get more into the colour theory of thing!! The 2023 and 2022 versions are here if u wanna see as well!!!

The world is blank.

A flash of light wakes you up and makes you reel for a second. It was so strong… and there’s weight on your body. It seemed to be… a person? You snake your hand up to check, and it indeed lands on someone’s skin. The person shivered and shifted a bit, breath hitting your nose now. When you open your eyes, you see a young man with jet-black hair that faded into sea-green. Big white wings were flared out behind him, and were complimented by the same fade and a gold piece instead of a bendable limb. He was close enough that you could also peer directly into the curious, sparkling depths of his big bluish teal eyes.

I'm still physically wiped out and my head's too fuzzy to do 'real' writing/revisions on my story, but I'm just coherent enough that I want to chitter-chatter about my fic.

So in the course of working on Choices, one of the things I've spent an inordinate amount of time on is figuring out the 'cohorts' for the valleyfolk. What I mean by 'cohorts' are the groups of people who are in a similar age-range to one another and then further subdivided into 'natives' (aka 'people who grew up together in the valley') and 'transplants.' After all, one of the things I'm trying to accomplish is interweaving three large expansion mods with the base game and coming up with a cohesive whole, and that means knowing who from the various mods have known each other basically forever.

Under the cut, I break down who's in what cohort. I may or may not later flesh out my thinking about why I plopped certain people into certain groups, mostly because when I started to do so with this list, the post grew disgustingly (more) bloated. If I do, I'll probably do a separate post for each cohort. After all, this is the site for rambling about this sort of random stuff, right? 😅 (Edit: that's exactly how I spent my afternoon. If you squint just right, these could be considered spoilers for SVE/Ridgeside/East Scarp.

I divided the population of the valley into five different cohorts/generations. Ages are based on how old they are/would be during the course of Choices. They are also in order of eldest down to youngest. I have actual ages recorded for most of the characters, but it cluttered up this list waaay too much.

🧡 - Favorite non-Shepard pairings? Why do you love this/those pairing(s)?

🎗️- Something you would have liked to see more of in the games?

Fave pairings> Kolfer and Kriortez, aka Kolyat x Feron, and Thane Krios x Steve Cortez. (Also Pavan and Mickey, which are two total OC's, Blaise Shepard's dads.) They are all heavy headcanoning, I think that's what appeals to me about rarepairs so much though. You've got some bare bones to work with and then can adapt the stories and flesh out the characters to fit your own tastes. I'll try to give a brief overview. kolFer is: tall pouty prickly lad who is an introverted nerd annoyed to find he's fallen for the charms of short muscly extroverted flirty king, even more shocked to discover Feron isn't just a big old flirt but genuinely adores the ever loving shit out of him and they fall wildly in love. The more Kol pouts, the more Fer loves him. They work together as agents of the shadowbroker Liara. Kriortez: No one will ever sum it up better than @zet-sway did: "I'm just imagining their relationship. Both of them, professional as fuck. House is impeccably clean. They're well spoken and dependable. And the moment their spark is lit they're on each other like white on rice, handprints on the windshield, clothes on the floor, [redacted to keep this SFW lol] Heart eyes for days." I actually spend way more time thinking about non Shepard pairings than I do Shepard pairings. Like don't get me wrong I adore Shepard and my two Keahi and Blaise are my special blorbos, but I think the freedom of having less strict storyline beats with KolFer lets my imagination really go down a rabbithole (which is also probably why my Shepards are both pretty AU compared to the games). Something I'd like to see more of? More interactions that don't involve the main character. Those moments in 3 where you'd find squadmates chatting. The conversations in the rover in andromeda. All the interesting NPC's on the citadel. That stuff sparks the imagination and fleshes out the world so much and I love it, can't get enough, and would love to see more. Especially with the less explored species. Give me that juicy hanar lore, some elcor drama. A world that adapts and changes over time is always incredible too, though I know engine limitations are a thing. Andromeda hinted at that being a thing, but really all you saw was empty planet, then inhabited planet. Would be awesome to see some stages in between, growth and change each time you visit a place, some consequences to your actions.

the Otherworldly Companion (OC) masterpost

Nuadha is what's commonly called the "Dark Urge", but with some modifications. She is an avatar of a largely-forgotten god (in this part of Toril, anyway) who ran afoul of both Bhaal and his Chosen. She travels Faerûn in the company of future Hero of Baldur's Gate Wyll Ravengard searching for a cure to a mindflayer affliction and a reunion with the sundered fragments of her Self.

Dayir and Ishan are my Eorzean Warriors of Varying Luminosity, as it were, and there's a lil about post about them here. Sesshai is their tricksy Viera bestie that I don't talk about nearly enough, for some reason.

Noah Kingfisher is the Sole Survivor of Vault 111; Gabriel the Revelator is the Lone Wanderer; and Gideon of the Grave is Courier Six. Noah is a literal child of Atom, and Gabriel is the next-closest thing, being genetically manipulated by Atom in utero. Noah also exists in Halcyon and Far Cry 5's Montana (along with Preston Garvey).

Anansi Surana is both the Grey Warden that ends the Blights once and for all, and the Herald of [???] (Razikale, but no one knows that) that lays the groundwork for a new world. he's also a First Enchanter for a while. he gets around, you could say. Elijah Wolf (or, Elijah Hawk-child, for much of DA2) is Lord Protector of Kirkwall but that doesn't stop him or his seneschal Varric Tethras from gallivanting off to Skyhold. I don't play in the Dragon Age space much anymore, unfortunately, so don't expect much about these guys unless they respawn in another universe (which is highly possible). or unless I play DA4. which is also possible.

Adrian Shepard is Commander of the SSV Normandy and the scourge of the Reapers. until he becomes something bigger than the Reapers. good thing he's on our side.

Claudio V Invictus is the Saint of Saints and the CEO of Saintscorp. he is the owner of every single pair of the booty shorts in those "shorts that say [x] on the ass" memes.

there are others -- Keahi the Watcher of Caed Nua, Llovyn Arendur of Skyrim, Ananduil and Venanduil of Azeroth, loads more Thedosians, etc -- but they don't have populated tags yet because they simply haven't come up nearly as often.

What/who does your character love a little too much? Why?

Yuuto Sakuraba

He loves sleep a little too much. The boy has only a few actual memories of his past, but in his dreams he gets the faintest glimpses of his other memories. He can hear voices of strangers who he knows he knows, but he has no memories of them. Little by little he is seeing more of his memories but the faces are still blurs to him.

Pyxis

He loves theater too much. Pyxis always was lost in the background as a child but one day got into theater. That was the first time the attention was on him. How he entered the world of twst was when the curtains fell on his first performance where he was the star of the show. As the crowd applauded, his world faded to black. When he arrived in twst he was still in his costume, aka a prince's outfit and was treated like such so he played the part.

Lacie Reyes

She loves her friends too much, ironic with what her fate is but Lacie would die for her friends. And well... She did die by her friend's hand, while accidentally. Natalie Williams aka her old best friend, Lacie can't say no to her friends but the one time she did was rejecting her confession who upon freaking out and thinking Lacie would tell her religious parents yanked her back too hard by the arm causing Lacie to suffer an almost lethal head injury before leaving her elsewhere to succumb to her fate.

Leveret Faust

He loves individuality too much to the point that he's isolated himself with no support system to fall back on. He was born missing his legs below the knees so he was raised using prosthetics, but kids are mean and bully those who stand out. So he got bullied, however that only made him more independent and "not care" about what people thought, but unfortunately that socially isolated him. He was able to get through so much alone that now he can't ask for help when he needs it.

Aspen Cyfrin

He loves himself too much. Well, that would stand if the boy had a heart, which he doesn't. He gave that up to make a deal to have even stronger magic. Because of that he only really cares for himself, because "that's all he has". He gave up his heart to follow a mysterious voice he once heard (aka twst Sofie) but now in the world of twst he may never find them.

Kagero Shimizu

He loves his role of a protector too much. He did anything for Asuka, and the boy was always close to him. Now that he's not by his side, Kagero is less than kind. He's constantly thinking about what if something happened to Asuka and if it did how he'd never forgive himself. He is nothing if he's not a protector (in his own mind)

Yua Misaki

She loves Yuuto too much, well he is the "manifestation" of what she loves too much which is the past. Yua wants everything to go back to how it was before she was dragged into twst. She was a child, only 14 when she was brought in and was stuck for 3 years. In those three years she felt her memories start to leave her, she couldn't remember her brothers' faces or her close friends names, she was even forgetting who she was. The one person that stuck out was Yuuto and she clung to those memories. She clings to what was and since she has nothing of her own anymore she clings to Yuuto, who to her despair has no solid memory of her.

Makaio Keahi

He loves freedom and adventure too much. He's a free bird, rides the waves and follows the tides. But he can't stay in safe waters, he always wants to go further. And that going further caused him and his brother to get into a boating accident (think Moana's dad and his friend) and the two were brought into the world of twst as the world faded black around them while under water. His want to know what more there is in life almost cost him his own.

Ooookay so I have not touched this concept in like, a LONG time like at least 6 months or so, but long story short it's basically VTuber fanfic LOL

It's very long winded so I'll link the character profiles here and then write a TLDR under the cut (though the profiles have more info if you wanna read more)

Swan / Beel / Keahi

So story goes there is a young reaper that is kinda just starting her job. Her name is Swan Song or Swan for short. They make her do the small stuff no one else wants to y'know.

But one day she gets to do a very big job, and that's to undo the work of a foolish angel who's fallen from heaven and is now granting prayers to make people immoral. Her name is Beel.

Obviously immortals are a big no no in the reaper business, so Swan has been tasked to stop Beel which she would absolutely love to do because Beel is SUPER ANNOYING! Except for one thing.

Keahi. Keahi is a boy who fell in love with Swan at first sight. So much so, that he prayed to Beel to see her again after their first encounter. Beel, being a little morbid, answered his prayer by turning him into a human phoenix. Aka, when he dies, he comes back to life a little later. This gives him LOTS of opportunity to see Swan so long as he's willing to die for it. Which he is. Unfortunately for Swan.

Swan finds him annoying as hell, but also, the more he sticks around the more she realizes she's kinda lonely? She kinda likes him. A little bit. She wouldn't admit it though. But to get rid of Beel's mess would also mean to get rid of him! What's she gonna do??

Biography

Hilo was an anomaly, in more ways than one.

For ages the Keahi family had resigned themselves to the lower ranks, cursed with generations upon generations of mere humans to the point where they’d assumed any Strongarm dormancy was well lost. Apparently, it’d just been saving all of its potency for Hilo.

Dubbed Prodigy and considered the saving grace of the family line, the young Club was afforded every opportunity to excel in training, and he took all of them. Vaulting through the ranks at a comparatively young age, it wasn’t long before there were whispers that a new Ace was on the rise. But it wasn’t just the resurgence of Strongarm genes in his family line and his skill in the ring that set Hilo apart: fighting thrilled him as much as it would any other Club, but so too did he have a heart. He showed mercy. He’d never turn down a challenge and he’d never refuse a fight, but the lower the rank of his challenger, the more likely Hilo was to treat them with kid gloves. Unfortunately, most Clubs viewed this as an insult more than a kindness, and even as many grew to love and respect him, there were just as many who would grow to resent him. A soft-hearted Club was no Club at all, or so a number of the whispers said.

Because of this, there were simply too many suspects to point fingers at when Hilo awoke – mere days from the ceremony planned to test his ultimate worth against the current Ace – subject to a seemingly incurable paralyzing curse from the waist down.

The specifics of the former King’s fall from grace are lost to the decades and to Hilo’s reticence on the subject. Pitched back into the dregs of the lowrankers, Hilo’s alias felt like a cruel joke – at least, until he found his second calling. Those with shorter memories will now only know him as the quietly smiling blacksmith, the ‘2’ on his wrist seemingly incongruous with his bulk and skill at the Forge, if you could ignore the mystically enhanced braces he wears from the waist down. Incapable of fighting, it didn’t seem to matter to the vague omnipotence of the ranking system how much Hilo improved his craft; his rank had stagnated for the better part of decades, even as he fashioned the finest custom weapons and armor for highranker after highranker.

Personality

Hilo’s had enough of politics to last him the rest of his unnatural lifespan, but some that remember his former glory still hope that one day he’ll stage a miraculous comeback and take the rank that they thought was meant for him. On the contrary, Hilo’s now of the opinion this is what was fated for him all along. Content in his craft, he stays in his lane even when the highrankers get rude, and revolution is hardly on his easygoing mind. With enough charisma left over from his original rise to renown, he keeps a small circle of friends and is generally well-liked if not terribly well-respected for his rank, which Hilo seems to have accepted with all the patience he does anything else.

Glitches: The GRID (part 1)

So, @cyhyr​ opened a can of worms by asking about Glitches, and now you are all forced to read about everything I have built for it thus far.

But first, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can see Cy’s ask and my history of the world of Glitches here. I think one of the main things for me when it comes to creating Glitches is to categorize the powers and physical abnormalities. In part, because it’s a natural human thing to do, and so this categorizing would canonically happen anyway, but also in part so I can make sure to keep the powers in check and not go too OP with some of my characters.

Here’s a quick history (for reals, it’s only 3 paragraphs long):

To try to help keep track of what to expect when dealing with Glitches, the United Nations created the Glitch Classification System; a universal categorizing of Glitches based on their physical evolution and super-human abilities. There are five main branches known as “Species” of Glitch: Beast, Mind, Tweaker, Evoker, and Mage. Beasts refer to anyone with physical traits that aren't normal to Homo Sapiens: wings, odd skin tone, heightened senses, etc. Minds are essentially telepaths and telekinetics, but also include any Glitches that can do any sort of manipulation with their mind, or are hyper-intelligent. Tweakers can alter either their own or another's DNA. This can be as simple as advanced healing or altering skin density, or it could be as advanced as power mimicry. Evokers can manipulate the elements, or manipulate energy such as magnetic force, gravity, or kinetic energy. Finally, there are the “odd balls” known as Mages. They can manipulate physics itself in a manner typically described as “magic” or “supernatural”. Such examples are teleportation, probability manipulation, and precognition. Each “Species” has a varying amount of sub-categories known as “Classes”. A Glitch who fits in multiple Species-Classes is known as as a “Multi,” as in multi-class. A Glitch whose genetic abnormalities fit them in multiple “Species” is called a “Hybrid.”

The Glitch Classification System is compiled into the Glitch Registry and Identification Database: aka The GRID. Up until five years prior to the main Glitches storyline, it was a requirement for every human categorized as a Glitch to be added to The GRID before they gain the right to vote. Most were even added to The GRID at birth if they were a Beast Glitch, or during their school years if their powers manifested and could be recorded during normal health evaluations.

Now that it is (at least temporarily) deemed unconstitutional to force a Glitch to be registered on The GRID, most educators, physicians, and parents only use The GRID as a reference guide to know what powers the child has and how to handle them/train them. It is rare that a Glitch gets officially registered on The GRID anymore, but some still feel it is their civic duty to register as a means of showing Acts of Faith; proving they are not dangerous to society.

The Adult Reworks: These characters were all once canonical X-Men universe characters. I’m hoping I altered them enough that they don’t feel like rip-offs. Please alert me if you feel I need to rework any of them a bit more. (Also, I don’t have last names for anyone yet. I’m a slacker...)

Matteo: Registration: Beast-Tweaker Hybrid; Beast Class: enhanced senses and reflexes, also classified as a “Norm-Beast” (someone who fits the Beast category but still has an average human appearance); Tweaker Class: advanced healing

He can heal at an elevated rate, and he has heightened senses. Being a Beast-class Glitch, his powers developed in the womb, instead of manifesting at puberty. He has always had the elevated senses and healing. He can pick up scents, as well as hear more clearly and further, all more akin to animals than humans. His elevated touch allows him to pick up vibrations easier. For instance, when a person touches railroad tracks to determine if a train is out of sight down the line. With a literal blink of an eye, he can switch his sight over into infrared.

Emily: Registration: Evoker-Beast Hybrid; Evoker Class: Energy Charmer; Beast Hybrid Element: Magenta-colored eyes 

Emily's Evoker ability focuses on energy; namely the ability to manipulate the kinetic energy in the atoms around her. The “Charmer” class is because energy cannot be created nor destroyed, so she can only manipulate it. Specifically, she can shift an object between having kinetic and potential energy. There is a lot to unpack with this, so I’ll save it for another post. While she is not a Mind-hybrid at all, her powers have a side-effect that gives her a strong resistance to Mind Glitches. The constant change between kinetic and potential energy around her causes a sort of "static" that messes with the mental waves Mind Glitches use to manipulate their victims. A strong enough Mind Glitch can navigate the "static" to still affect her. She can also concentrate on keeping the energy around her at its natural state; removing the "Static" completely, which is helpful for when she actively wishes for telepaths to reach her mind for whatever reason.

Ryder: Registration: Mind; Class: Silver-Tongue

A form of verbal hypnosis. Silver-Tongues can use their power to convince others that everything they say is true, or compel them to do whatever the Silver-Tongue wants. There are three main restrictions to this power, but I will save these details for another post.

Keahi: Registration: Evoker-Beast-Mind triple Hybrid; Evoker Class: Earth Summoner; Norm-Beast Multi-Class: enhanced endurance, and elemental immunity; Mind Class: limited telekinesis

There’s a lot to unpack with Keahi, but the main thing is that she can produce and manipulate granite. All sub-powers derive from that fact. Her main use of this power is to encase her body in granite in an almost instantaneous, reflexive full-body armor. She can also create things by manipulating the shape of granite, such as weapons, doors, ladders, etc. She can shift the ground my moving granite encased in the ground, which leads to the Mind sub-category. Her telekinesis is limited to granite. She can move it with her mind, including hovering it in the air and “throwing” it large distances. Anything that has at least 30% granite in it, she can manipulate telekinetically. Her Evoker powers alone take up about 4 paragraphs on her bio sheet, so I won’t fully get into it here. The “elemental immunity” sub-category allows her to thrive around lava: increased skin density; reflexive encasing of granite that allows her to STAND IN LAVA for up to 30min; extra coating on her eyes to protect against heat; expanded heat tolerance so her skin won’t burn when touched by most flame heat (up to 2500-degrees Fahrenheit before the granite auto-covers); and extra filtration in her lungs to protect against ash and toxic fumes usually connected to volcanic eruptions. There’s a lot more there, but I’ll save it for another post.

Cody: Registration: Tweaker; Class: Soul Splitter/Cloning

Soul-Splitters are able to convert a fresh drop of their blood into an exact copy of themselves. These clones default to mindless drones with a “hive mind”, however, controlling the hive-minded drones tends to use all mental ability of the original. Because of this, Cody tends to utilize the “soul splitting” part of his powers to give his clones autonomy. In other words, when he creates the copy, he can “gift” him some of his consciousness. The downside is that whatever knowledge and/or personality component Cody “gives” to his clone is locked from him until the clone is destroyed - either by being killed, or by being converted back into a drop of blood by Cody’s will. Cody prefers willing the clones away because the trauma of them dying causes him migraines, the intensity of which is determined by how many clones are dying at once, and how much pain they feel when they die. He can’t will them away without being within twenty feet of them, though. Once the bit of “soul” is returned to Cody - either through him dismissing the clones or them dying - he gains all knowledge and experience his clone gained. It was a great way to become a quadruple-major in college while still enjoying some partying. There is a lot more involved with this power, but that’ll be saved for another post.

Ignatius “Iggy”: Registration: Evoker-Beast Hybrid; Evoker Class: Fire-Charmer; Beast Class: elemental immunity; Beast Hybrid element: gold-colored eyes

He’s in a Pyro-Evoker subset that’s not quite as evolved; power wise. He can’t create (evoke) fire, but he can manipulate existing fire. Something as large as a burning building to something as small as a simple spark or dying ember; he can manipulate the fire however he pleases. He can shrink or grow the flame, regardless of amount of fuel feeding it. He can also bend the flames into whatever shape he wants. His favorite is a flame whip. The concentration of the flow of flame actually makes it tangible, and so being hit with his flame whip won’t only burn, but it will also sting just like an actual whip would. The flame whip can also lasso objects so he can swing using it or bring and object to him using it. He also has full immunity to flame, making him incapable of being burnt by fire or smothered by smoke.

The Cerberus shield fort in the Normandy hangar bay, aka Fort Mail Slot

I was chatting about fave enemies in Mass Effect in a discord chat, and mentioned that I love the cerberus shield guys, as a sniper they are fun to aim at. And I got the biggest freaking brainworm, which started with:

Keahi Shep would collect them all up (the shields) afterwards and build a victory fort in the shuttle bay. Thane: has anyone seen siha Garrus: he's in the shield fort down in the bay Thane: the what Garrus: they're making a throne. It has turrets too.

And it became A THING. @stormikins and I then went into such a spiral elabroating the lore of Fort Mail Slot, at 7am on Monday morning, on no sleep and much coffee. Highlights! (quotations are @stormikins ideas, thank you so much for joining me on this madness stormikins!) ⦁ Everyone gets to add a shield they have 'won' (aka taken out a cerberus shield guy in battle) to the front rampart and can decorate it as they choose. ("Grunt would paint dinos and sharks. Eating little Cerberus guys"). ⦁ At first its seen as a Shep quirk, but as people add their own touches to it, they quickly become fully invested in the fort. Tali engineers a lighting and sound system. Liara establishes extranet connections. A bar appears. Vega's gym gets absorbed into the structure and becomes the fort gym. ⦁ Sophie gets her own tower right by the front gate and is the guard dog of honour. "She’s like Cerberus guarding the gate. Must give bribe treat to get in" ⦁ The fort quickly becomes legendary throughout the galaxy. It's in the shuttle bay, so anyone who comes aboard immediately see's the giant freaking shield fort as like the first thing they see aboard the Normandy, which is hilarious, UNLESS they come aboard from the upper dock, then they hear whispers of the secret fort in the basement. ⦁ "Shepard, picking up Jack and the kids at Grissom: hey, collect your shields! We’re trying to make another wing! Jack: what " (but also) Jack: sees the kids not picking up shieds Jack: you heard the man you little Fu- fricks.

⦁” Kaidan/Ashley come aboard and are like: damn nothing really has changed huh” They'd look, shake their head, and immediately hop on in. "Shake of the head, hands on hips, and then “how many do I need?” ⦁ Politicans that DON'T fuck Shep over get embassy status ⦁ Rumour has it Primarch Victus got absolutely sauced in the bar wing late one night after a trying day of playing politics ⦁ The dalatrass is of course denied entry. "Wrex takes pleasure in rubbing in her face that he's invited and she isn't" ⦁ the fort becomes so normalised on the Normandy, so much a part of the life that people kinda forget it’s a bit odd, and when the asari refuse to help Shep actually tries the 'but you won't be included in the fort' line asari: what Shep: what~ ⦁ Liara gets her own mini bank of screens in the fort to try and lure her out of her room, Shep puts up black blankets around the area with a huge sign saying 'super secret shadow broker business shhhhh' over it. Shep also puts up a neon notice board with 'totally not super secret shadow broker messages under here nope' and underneath is an extremely crudely drawn penis, with realy tiny writing underneath, like so tiny you have to get really close or take a picture and zoom, and the writing says 'made you look Liara. Twice.' and next to it is another tiny dick. ⦁ Another shadow broker prank sign: “To learn this SB secret please answer the following: dog or not?" ⦁ Joker gets 'I got fucked in the cerberus shield fort and all I got was this lousy shirt' teeshirts printed ⦁ Shep creates a little moat out front for javik. He of course deems it primitive, but can be found using it. He also compiles a report on more effective fort defence protocols. "Sophia loves him, and he's annoyed by it, but secretly loves it" ⦁ In time people commend Shepard for coming up with such an unconventional but genius way of creating a bonding exercise for the crew during the stresses of war. Shep is mysetfied, they genuinely just wanted to build a fort. ⦁ Just picture it: a bunch of cerberus troops spreading out in front of Shep, feeling confident ('so many of us vs 3 people, and us with these shiny shields!') and shep just whooping and shouting 'yes! we can extend the cinema room lads!' and the troops being very, very confused ⦁ the mail slots on the front gate are for pizza delivery we tried coming up with good names, but in the end decided that it being simply the shield fort was funnier, as people might assume the 'shield fort in the hangar bay' is like an actual, functional ship thing, like a shield fortification station for the normandy or something, and then its like 'oh, no, it's an actual shield fort'. It does gain the nickname of Fort Mail Slot among the crew. please help us expand Fort Mail Slot lore! What would other squad members decorate their shields with? What upgrades would people add, what wings? Please share cerberus sheild fort shennanigans i’d love to hear them x
