I know I'm a Kazuma-centric multishipping piece of garbage but like
While I'm on a Kuwahi kick, here's some other Kazuma-centric rare pairs that I wish got more love from the YYH fandom:
Kazuma/Kiyoshi (Mitarai) - there's only a few fic and one of the only ones that was on FF.net went MISSING.
Seriously Kazuma did for him what Yusuke did for Hiei and people aren't shipping this????? THERE'S CUTE SENPAI KOUHAI SHENANIGANS!!!!! This ship is DROWNING in Appeal!!!!!! 😭
Kazuma/Okubo - they were friends either in elementary or in middle school before Keiko got Yusuke to start attending regularly. Either way they have an established bond before Yusuke hits the scene and he's got a similar look to Yusuke. I LOVE Kuwameshi! Don't get me wrong! But isn't another fun way to look at it: Kazuma had a big stupid crush on Okubo and dealt with it by trying to beat the similar looking pretty boy into the dirt? And focusing on it pretty hard to keep from dealing with his feelings? And maybe he ends up accidentally transferring those feelings onto Yusuke for a while and genuinely falling for him too, before he has to fuck off for 3 whole years leaving Kazuma in Ningenkai with nothing else to really distract him now.
And Oh Thank God Okubo dropped out to start working! That's good for him and his family and for Kazuma's fragile neeves. He won't be so distracted by him in class at least; but Just His Luck Okubo's shop is on the way to school so of course Sawamura and Kirishima want to stop by on the way to and from school. They always end up spending a while there in the mornings and evenings talking about school and customers. They hang out of Okubos days off but they make sure to keep him out of fights because he can't lose his job like that. They mostly do stuff like batting cages or hiking.
Eventually they work out a plan to help okubo study for the test that's sort of the Japanese equivalent of a GED. (It's a long name and it is real) and it takes a couple of years after they graduate but they get it accomplished and then he has better opportunities and lands a better job with better pay!
By that point he's able to keep his siblings from dropping out which means the world to him.
Ok the Kuwakubo bit went from general ship appeal to my personal headcanon but still.
#Kuwakubo#Okubara#Kazuma/Okubo#Kuwatarai#Kazuma/Kyoshi#This was typed up in drafts but I didn't post it yesterday#Whoops#I think I went to Google the name of the test and then forgot the post existed#To be fair Kiyoshi/Botan has the same grounds for shipping and is also cute but I prefer femslash ships with Botan#Plus shes a spirit and him dating a human carries more weight with his healing and restoring his faith in humanity - So Kazuma's my choice

Okay random shower thought!
Imagine if Hiei ever met Kuwabara’s gang:
Hiei already thinks Kuwabara is a pain in the ass (that he doesn’t wanna admit he loves 🤣) BUT imagine if he met Okubo, Sawamura and Kirishima!
I imagine Hiei would have a “Squidward meeting Stanley SpongeBob” moment and heart have a panic attack.
He would make THIS face:
And would exclaim “THERE’S FOUR OF THEM?!?!”
😂
#yu yu hakusho#yyh#hiei#kazuma kuwabara#sawamura#kirishima#okubo#they would make him lose his mental sanity 🤣😂

Persons Concerned
Kazuma Kuwabara
He's actually popular...maybe!?
Mistreated by his family (T/N: Shizuru? lol), beaten up by Yusuke...Kuwabara is not having a very good time. However, the trio Sawamura, Kirishima and Okubo seem to strongly admire and respect Kuwabara, addressing him by the suffix "san" even though they are classmates.
T/N: Kuwabara's friends call him "Kuwabara-san" (桑原さん). The honorific suffix "san" (Mr/Ms) is a polite way to address one another and also shows a sense of respect. It's more common among young boys, specially classmates, to use the honorific suffix "kun". We can notice how his friends truly respect him. Kuwabara is kind of a leader for them.
【Fellows】
Yusuke (eternal rival)
A rival that he must overcome someday. No matter what kind of opponents appear, he believes that he is Yusuke's greatest opponent.
Kurama (teammate) and Hiei (makes him nervous, but he also trusts)
Comrades who he has grown to trust through battles. In particular, he seems to have built a good relationship with Kurama, as they study together at the library and such.
【Sweetheart】
Yukina (adoration)
Kuwabara's loved one. He is completely ignorant of the fact that she is Hiei's younger sister.
【Family】
Shizuru (they're probably on good terms?)
The older sister, an aspiring hairdresser who has a higher psychic ability than her younger brother.
Father
Kuwabara's father, nonchalantly, is very familiar with the situation. Occupation unknown. Cheerful.
T/N: Kuwabara's father is aware about the existence of the Spirit and Demon Worlds.
Eikichi
A domestic cat that Kuwabara, an unparalleled cat lover, is literally petting (dotes on it).
T/N: the Japanese expression "neko kawaigari" literally means "to pet a cat", but it's an expression used to say you dote on someone.
【Classmates】 (trusted friends)
Sawamura
Kuwabara's tsukkomi. He has the most lines out of the three.
T/N: In owarai (Japanese comedy), the tsukkomi is generally the smarter and more reasonable of the comedy duo. In America, tsukkomi is known as the "straight man". When a comedy partner behaves eccentrically, the "straight man" is expected to maintain composure.
Kirishima
One of Kuwabara's friends whose grades and appearance are not so bad, like those of a delinquent.
T/N: Kirishima scored 52 points (out of 100) in the science test, while Sawamura scored 45 points, Okubo 39 points, Kuwabara 7 points, and Yusuke 12 points.
Ōkubo
A hard-working man who works part-time to help support his family with many siblings.
T/N: Although he's still in the 2nd year of middle school, Okubo has a special permit from the Sarayashiki Junior High to work part-time.

Seriously show... I hope this is in the manga because you can’t just leave me with Kuwabara’s backstory when it comes to having a heightened psychic awareness when he talks about the old lady that haunts him! I need to know more! Who is she? How long has she (and others) been haunting him?? I NEED ANSWERS?
Also, on part two of “the yyh dub is very gay”, you have this line after Yusuke takes temporary possession of Kuwabara’s body as a ghost: "Hey, cool, I'm inside Kuwabara! Feelin' smooth!"
Without visual context...it’s just... oh my goodness.
#my meta#screencaps#sachi okubo#anzai sawamura#kirishima#yyh dub... is so gay i just i love it#this is a gift after 13+ years#i really want to know more about these ghosts that keep bugging kazuma#also look at his goofy smile even though that's yusuke doing it#it just#he radiates like the sun#that goof ball i love him

@xleitmotif said: Okubo from Pushing Daisies AU is giving Yusuke a nervous hug. It's from Kuwabara.
Yusuke snickers. With Okubo’s expression practically a cry for help, he’d never think otherwise, even with no Kazuma in sight loudly making this declaration himself. Ridiculous as this all is, the gesture never ceases to ignite a spark of joy in him. “’Course it is. What’s it for this time?”

hiei x kuwabara soulmate au because i can
***
He’s had the birthmark since he was nine months old.
“It looks like writing, doesn’t it?” Like a secret language is embedded in his skin. “Someone wrote you a message, Kazuma.”
Kazuma wiggles under the covers. The first day of school is tomorrow. He’s excited to make new friends. “What does it say, Mama?”
She smiles. “You tell me.”
He rubs the mark on his tummy. He has no idea.
***
School’s okay. He’s terrible at spelling, but he’s kind like his mother teaches him to be.
He shares his markers with a boy named Okubo.
Okubo asks, “Do you want to play with me?”
They chase a soccer ball at recess. Kazuma is a bit clumsy; he overshoots the ball and falls backwards. Ouch.
Okubo helps him to his feet. By then, it’s too late. Half of the class has seen the mark across his stomach.
He comes home with their laughter echoing in his ears.
The message, he tells his mother flatly, is that he’s ugly and weird.
He hates the birthmark after that.
***
He fights with his mom. “I don’t want to go back.” It’s horrible because they don’t fight, not even when she makes him eat carrots at dinner.
She’s surprised by his behavior. “I thought you made a friend. Don’t you want to see him?”
He does, but what if Okubo saw his mark and decided he doesn’t want to be friends anymore?
His mother kisses his forehead. “Be brave, Kazuma.”
For her, he tries.
Kazuma nervously approaches Okubo. “Hi.”
Okubo beams. “Good morning, Kuwabara. You want to sit together for lunch?”
Kazuma smiles.
***
Some of the kids keep teasing him, but some of the ones that laughed seem to be ashamed. They make an effort to be extra nice to Kazuma the next day, or at least they don’t mention the mark.
Most of them will stay in the same class with him until high school.
They all go to their graves remembering the mark.
***
When he asks, Okubo says, “I think your mark is kind of cool.” He hands Kazuma a lollipop. “It looks like fire.”
***
“Someday,” his mother promises, “you will love your mark again. I know you will. It’s a part of you, Kazuma.”
It’s a part he didn’t ask for.
***
Kazuma misses a week of school in third grade.
Okubo comes over every day to give Kazuma his homework. “I heard you crying from the front door.”
“My head hurts.” The blinds are drawn closed and the house is quiet. Shizuru is sleeping over at a friend’s house at their mom’s insistence. She wouldn’t leave Kazuma’s room otherwise.
“Isn’t there medicine you can take?”
The pills the doctor gives him don’t make the pain go away. They just make him drowsy without helping him fall asleep.
His stomach hurts, too, right where the mark is.
***
Shizuru is waiting for him after school.
She buys him ice cream and takes him to the park. Under a big oak tree, she explains to him what cancer is.
***
His mom dies.
Kazuma sits in between Shizuru and Okubo at the funeral. His father kneels by the urn, accepting condolences on the family’s behalf.
***
She was wrong. He hates the mark more than ever.
It’s a constant reminder of her, of how he’s lost her.
****
He gets into fights. He gets into a lot of fights.
His dad thinks he’ll grow out of it, but the problem is that Kazuma loves it. He loves throwing punches. He loves being punched.
And when he fights off four gang members picking on a stray dog all on his own, he realizes he’s pretty fucking good at it.
***
The bandages across his abs make him look like a brawler, like he’s just finished a fight and he’s ready for another one.
In reality, junior high means he can’t avoid taking his shirt off in the locker room forever.
***
Shizuru gets into beauty school. Kazuma buys dinner with the money he earned chopping firewood for Mr. Sohma to celebrate.
It comes from the convenience store down the block, but still.
His sister accepts the bowl of ramen with a smile. “Thanks.”
He puts an egg in the hot broth to make it extra special.
They eat in silence when Kazuma notices her staring. “What?”
She ruffles his hair. “You’re not actually ugly, you know. I could give you a new haircut. Show off some of your features.”
He declines. The best haircut in the world can’t hide the ugly thing on his stomach.
***
Urameshi accidentally rips his shirt off when they scuffle after school. “Whoa, sorry, man. I didn’t--”
He stares at Kazuma’s mark. It’s worse than the broken nose and the bruised rib. “What?” Kazuma barks.
Urameshi hands him the tattered remains of his shirt. “It’s weird.”
Kazuma flinches.
“I didn’t mean your tattoo--”
“It’s not a tattoo! It’s a birthmark!”
“--I thought I could read it for a second.”
Bullshit. It’s a meaningless patch of skin.
He asks anyway. “What does it say?”
***
It’s the closest Kazuma comes to winning a fight against Urameshi when the jerk shrugs and says, “I don’t know! I said for a second.”
***
Okubo drags him away from Yusuke’s memorial photo screaming and crying. Kazuma’s making a scene. He’ll be embarrassed tomorrow when he thinks of all the people staring at him in pity and reproach. He’ll apologize to Atsuko and Keiko and Yusuke himself, if he must.
Tonight, he grieves.
They collapse in the alley beside Yusuke’s house. “Kazuma, think of his mom, man. You can’t be carrying on like this.”
Kazuma is thinking of Yusuke’s mom. He’s thinking of his own mother. He’s thinking, “Please, please. It’s got to be a mistake. Bring him back. Bring him back.”
He clutches at his mark. It isn’t made to hold another loss.
Please.
***
Yusuke comes back.
“Son of a bitch,” Okubo says in awe. “Hey, Kazuma? If I ever die, tell them to check again.”
***
Kazuma flexes his right arm. It doesn’t hurt at all, and it was in a dozen pieces less than an hour ago.
Master Genkai is incredible. Yusuke is so fucking lucky to be her student.
Maybe having the Tickle isn’t so bad, he thinks as he’s packing his bag. Maybe he could do some good with his spiritual awareness--
“I couldn’t have given you what you wanted anyway,” Genkai says. She calmly sips her tea. “Tell me you can sense it.”
Kazuma freezes. “Sense what?”
Genkai cups his cheek. She’s sorry to have frightened him. “Don’t be afraid, Kuwabara.” She points at his mark. “This is not the curse you think it is.”
***
“--and I met this dude named Kurama. Except he’s not just a dude,” Yusuke says before he takes one of Kazuma’s fries. “He’s also a demonic fox thief or something? He goes to high school in the next town.”
“Uh-huh.” Listening to Yusuke talk about being a spirit detective gives Kazuma a headache. He’d rather not get involved with any ghost shit, thanks.
“And I met this other dude named Hiei.” Yusuke watches him closely. Probably waiting for Kazuma to lower his guard so he can swipe another fry. “You ever hear of him? Little guy? Three eyes?”
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
Kazuma would remember if he met someone with three eyes. “How would I know him? The only demon I know is you.” The menace who keeps stealing Kazuma’s fries.
Yusuke licks the salt from his fingers. “Could have sworn I heard about him from you once. Maybe I’m misremembering.”
***
Yusuke is definitely misremembering, because if Kazuma had met Hiei before he would not have forgotten. His heart wants to leap out of his chest and offer itself up to those red eyes forever.
The mark feels warm, content--a fire slowly kindling in a hearth. Kazuma feels--
Hiei sneers. “Who is this bumbling fool?”
Kazuma feels an immediate and immense hatred.

If you're taking writing requests, i'd like to request something COMPLETELY self indulgent on your part! Writing something that makes you hAPPY is a great warm-up!
Bless, the majority of my output is self-indulgent, but I will take you up on the “completely” part. This was, in fact, a great warm-up, and I may expand on it at some point on my AO3 or something, since I know most of y’all were here for Undertale and now I’m foisting all this 90s weeb shit on you. :V
Incidentally, to the surprise of no one, this kind of thing does make me extremely happy:
It isn’t seeing the small crowd gathered outside Urameshi’s apartment that does it, or seeing Urameshi’s mom sitting by the wall, dead-fish staring at nothing. Or even the casket, the little shrine, the photograph of a teenage boy no one liked all that much.
It’s when Okubo and Sawamura are dragging him back out to the street, that transition between the apartment— bright, too warm, choked with the scent of incense— to the night outside. That’s the moment it fully hits Kazuma that Yusuke Urameshi is dead. That Urameshi isn’t going to push the casket lid open, sit up, flip him off, and tell him what a gullible moron he is. That it wasn’t a stupid rumor or a prank. That they’re never going to get their rematch, ever. That before Kazuma’s nose had even stopped bleeding that afternoon, Urameshi had already stepped off the curb in front of that car.
Okubo and Sawamura’s hold on his arms is the only thing keeping the ground from swallowing him up. He’s beyond rage, the engine that had propelled him all the way here to this piece of crap apartment building on the edge of Kaidan flying apart into something scary, incoherent. He’s aware he’s screaming and can’t stop himself, doesn’t want to, doesn’t care. He’s moving, his friends manhandling him down the sidewalk, away from the wake they weren’t invited to, putting distance between the unhinged scene he’s causing and what’s supposed to be quiet, respectful, adult.
Let them stare. Urameshi’s fucking dead. Like they even care. Fuck all of them.
Fuck everything.
Fuck.
After a block, or maybe two– he can’t tell, time and distance have lost all meaning now– he can’t keep his footing any longer. The bones and cartilage and muscles of his legs are all the same useless mush. He sinks down out of Okubo and Sawamura’s hold, their fingernails scraping and snagging along his jacket sleeves. His throat aches sharp like he’s gulped down a handful of broken glass.
“C’mon, Kuwabara,” Okubo says, his own voice quavering, kind. “You gotta get up.” He tugs on Kazuma’s sleeve.
Fuck Okubo.
Sawamura lays a hand on his other shoulder. “It’s okay.” He’s calm again already. Like always. “Let’s get you home, huh?”
Fuck Sawamura, too.
Kazuma is aware of the ugly, animal noises coming out of him. He’s out of energy to scream, his sobs punctuated by a high, keening wail that slips out from between teeth clenched hard enough to crack. It’s all he can do to drag air into his burning lungs. He sits there shivering in the middle of the cracked, grass-overgrown sidewalk, head in hands, watching through his fingers as tears and runny snot spot dark patterns onto the cement.
Far above him, he can hear Sawamura and Okubo talking. Something about finding a pay phone, calling Shizuru. Getting Kuwabara home. Getting home themselves, before they’re in too-deep shit with their parents. Practical things. How can phones and curfews and houses possibly matter now?
Why did he do it? How could he let it happen? Hit by a car— that’s something that happens to a stray dog or something, not a person! Not Urameshi, who can take out half a dozen guys on his own, who’s somehow one-fifty-six for zero on Kazuma, who’s a human force of nature and the devil himself. It’s not natural. It’s not right. You can’t have Mushashi without Kojiro. You can’t have Ryu without M. Bison.
It’s not fair.
It doesn’t make any sense.
He’s supposed to be here.
Okubo’s footsteps recede down the pavement, off in search of a phone, and now it’s just him and Sawamura and the streetlight and the moths and the hole in the world where Urameshi was until a few hours ago.
“I just…” Kazuma finds himself stammering, words dragged up through the sludge in his chest, his vice-clenched throat, “I j-just saw him.” His bruises are still fresh. His black eye isn’t even as dark yet as it will be by tomorrow morning. He shifts his fingers slightly against his face, pushing on the bruises. It pushes him back into his body, back onto the sidewalk, back into the past. Back to this afternoon, when everything was normal and fine and good, and Urameshi was still giving him that cocky fucking grin that Kazuma was definitely going to wipe off his face tomorrow, this time for sure.
Sawamura crouches down next to him, not looking at Kazuma but ahead, down the street where the wake is still going. “I know,” he says. That’s all he says. He reaches out to rub circles into Kazuma’s back, between his shoulder blades. Kazuma half wants to push him away, even though there’s no reason to and no point. Sawamura’s trying to help, but nothing can help. Nothing can fix this.
His eye is swelling up a little bit more from crying, making it hard to see anything on his left-hand side. Thinking about his black eye reminds him that he’ll wake up in the morning with it swollen shut, and everything will still be like this. The sun will come up. School won’t be canceled. Urameshi won’t be waiting on the side street where they usually fight, and everyone else will go about their lives like it’s no big deal the light’s gone out of the world.
For a moment, he doesn’t want to wake up tomorrow at all.
#asks#yu yu hakusho#sorry kuwabara but it's really satifying to put you through it#i could go on and on like this but i'll show some restraint#sorry for the multitude of commas and em-dashes#my other indulgence aside from torturing my faves is writing really ponderous sentences#Anonymous#spoilers for literally the first episode

Yu Yu Hakusho Side-by-Side, Episode 3: Kuwabara: A Promise Between Men
Or, as I like to call it. KAZUMA KUWABARA, THE MANLIEST OF MEN!!!
Yusuke denies his crush on Keiko more clearly in the dub.
The thugs that hop on Keiko demand 5000 yen in the sub, and they just keep saying that. In the dub, the first one demands 500 dollars, and the next on insinuates Keiko could pay another way. Also she roasts the guy with the face mask, telling him he has bad breath.
The name of the school the thugs are from is shortened from Kasanegafuchi in the sub to Kasanega in the dub.
Botan’s cheer during the rumble changes from ‘Get ‘em! Get ‘em!’ to ‘GO FOR THE KIDNEYS!!’ XD
Akashi (the rat-faced teacher) has an added line as he walks away after Kuwabara’s promise is made. ‘And you know what happens to people who break promises!’
In the dub Facemask verbally agrees not to attack Kuwa’s friends. In the sub when asked the same question he tells Kuwa to shut up.
The last test scores mentioned Sawamura/Komada are different. Sub he says he made a 52, dub he says 57. Also Kuwa’s friends names are changed except Okubo.
Dub Kuwa and Sub Kuwa seem to be studying different things in the classroom scene. Also I just noticed he’s using pencils as chopsticks. Such dedication. This continues in the hallway after his second beating. Also the Dub thugs offer a bit more detail as to why they’re smashing his face in...
Why do all the dub thugs sound like they’re from different cities? Fake Italian, fake New Englander, it’s distracting! Yeesh!
Yusuke seems a bit more forward with his reasons for possessing Misako in the sub. In the dub he sort of just rambles and then jumps in.
Dub Ratface is a tad more despicable. Or maybe it’s just the voice acting. Kuwa’s gang seems to care more about his well-being in the sub, too. And Takanaka throws a little shade in English. It’s a nice touch.
The ‘mutual feelings’ bit is a little funnier in the dub. Yusuke is worried Kuwa can hear Botan saying mushy stuff. YUSUKE THAT’S GAY!
(Sorry I lowkey ship Kuwameshi. Actually I’m not sorry. WAHAHA)
(Like Yusuke and Keiko are my OTP but still)
The next one should be a fun time... *incomprehensible screeching*
#Yu Yu Hakusho#Sub and Dub Side-By-Side#Analysis#Yu Yu Side-by-Side#Idk why I'm doing this but I'm having a good time so far

Yakuza Spinoff, “Judgment” First Hour Impressions
Judgment is another Yakuza spinoff but it is part investigation and part action brawler game. I just played the first hour and it felt more of the same game with investigation elements attached to it. Much like the Yakuza games derive from GTA games (open-world), this one feels like a LA Noire game set in modern day Kamurocho. Heck, the parts of the game when you are doing “detective” work give out the “noire” vibe by its jazzy music that goes along with those parts.
You play as Takayuki Yagumi, a former lawyer who’s girlfriend was killed and his house burn down by a serial killer, Okubo who he acquitted from court despite a high conviction rate from the Japanese criminal court. He quits his job and becomes a private investigator alongside a ex-yakuza who’s his partner. He now takes new jobs from his old law firm as a PI, solving the mysteries around the deaths and the new threat in this part of Tokyo.
The game like Yakuza 6 is set in the fictional district in Tokyo, Kamurocho, a setting prominent in Yakuza games. There really hasn’t been a slight upgrade from Song of Life, it seems that they just use the same set from before and dress up some parts of the game, it just felt lazy at first especially as a spinoff rather than a continuation to the main Yakuza storyline. Speaking of Yakuza, the Tojo Clan is quite a prominent gang in this district but none of the the main characters from the previous games are in them.
As the game is a detective/investigation game, there is a new mode called Focus/Active Search Mode which utilizes Yagami’s camera for facial recognition much like the Batman: Arkham games. For the tutorial, you have to find and scan your surroundings for the appropriate target who is another detective of which Yagami and his partner is seen stalking him at the beginning. In those areas where you have to find the target with a camera, you have to match their facial likeness and check off the right target as there are multiple doppelgangers or lookalikes in the area.
After this, you have to stalk and tail your target much like one of the acts in MGS4 and LA Noire by walking not too fast or slow from your target. There is a long bar on the top indicating the levels of alertness, your target has and it will increase you get spotted and decrease when you use cover in environmental objects or a crowd of people. It felt like a typical trope from other stealth games, despite being a tutorial level, there isn’t too many consequences of even getting spotted. Anyways, at the end when the detective that you are stalking, stops at a dead end where he does some shady business, there’s a drone to that you use for an aerial view from cover to get a better picture, handy in situations like these.
After seeing that this detective is horse-betting, Yagami exposes him and you then are greeted to a chase sequence like the previous games, you know, dodge this, QTE that, again more of the same. When you chase him to a dead end, you have to punish him by beating him out with two new fighting styles; crane and tiger which unlike Kazuma Kiryu, Yagami is a much slender man utilizing fighting styles much like Goro in Yakuza 0. The fighting never cease to be derivative and boring, yet oddly satisfying to have new moves such as the wall kick and the ridiculous and stylish finishing moves are bonkers. You can acquire more of these bonkers combat moves from your phone in exchange of SP which you acquire from fights and doing activities such as eating and playing games as well as special skills which can improve your “detective” skills. Oh and another thing, if you fight too long in the streets, police will eventually arrive and you will have to evade them least you’ll end up in jail.
Overall, the first hour of the game is a mixed bag for me, it is still a Yakuza game but a detective mode implemented to it. The story so far seems to be intriguing much like the other games, and the fighting never ceases to amaze me, it’s just satisfying to beating up street punks who fight you for the dumbest of reasons like for buying to the last of the sweets that you bring up to the law firm, it’s just funny. It is still nice that they added the mini-map, I believe the last game has it but I do like it.
