Evil can only truly exist in fiction, because it implies a level of otherness that is inhuman. We should never forget that people who commit atrocities are human, and conflict is not always so black and white.

Of course there’s nothing wrong with writing stories about the banality of real-world cruelty. Those stories are important and valuable, but there’s also nothing wrong with wanting your fictional villains to be entertaining. If that somehow bleeds into your reality then you should probably work on your empathy.

Actually dancing waltz is hard even when you have fully working eyes and supportive dance partner (I know I tried I failed I hid in my cape in shame), but when you blind and the lead is, well, Kayne? Shit's terrifying

girlies when i learned the bill code like 3 years ago i accidentally combinded both the arthurs notes and the code bill uses in the third book so i had characters from both codes. i had to try really hard not to combine the codes while writing that so it wouldnt be a pain for you guys to decipher sjnsji

Stay in Addison AU. More on Arthur and John after they reunite.

There's a lot of lying, from both sides this time. John remains mostly the same, while Arthur, even if unaware of where John had actually been, feels too guilty and bitter to tell him everything about his time in Addison.

There are two reasons for Arthur's guilt and unwillingness to admit everything: one a lot more selfish than the other.

Arthur doesn't tell John just how long he remained in Addison. He vaguely states that it's been some time, but never goes into further detail. How can he? He's been staying in luxury, sleeping on silk sheets and eating full meals three times day, for much longer than he'd need to "recover". He'd promised John they'd never part, that he'd never forget or leave him. Yet, instead of fighting tooth and nail to get him back, there he was, falling for earthy comforts first chance he got. Deep down, he knows he's started postponing his leave himself at some point. Sure, at first he was honestly, really too weak to proceed in any meaningful way. Then, it was the avalanche that blocked his way out of Addison (god, he just believed Larson without even checking). And then, days just kept flowing by until they steadily turned into weeks. There was nothing holding him back but his own weakness. What could he possibly tell John that wouldn't sound like he's just replaced him with Larson? Oh, Arthur knows how much he lacked human touch and human company, how much he craved normalcy. But how can he tell John without making it sound like he doesn't consider him human after all?

So he lies. No, rather, he keeps John in the dark. He hears John refer to his stay as "his days in Addison", and just nods, never correcting him on it.

On the other hand, he's also genuinely disgusted by the fact he let his guard down so moronically. The first thing John learns about Larson from him is that he's a horrible person. A monster undeserving to live. Arthur's still too emotional about it when John shows up again, so he goes on a little rant, even harsher than in canon. He just can't force himself to tell John that actually, he's been having pleasant chats and getting embarassingly intimate with that man. Even if he knows John won't judge him for this, his guilt is too deep-rooted.

John does catch on to that something's not right. He's not stupid, he feels how tense and defencive Arthur becomes each time he tries to ask him more about Larson. So when he confronts Arthur about it, Arthur goes quiet, and then admits... to the second reason only. He reluctantly tells John he didn't want to be associated with Larson, didn't want John to know he was close with a monster.

"Oh, Arthur," John says softly, noticeably relaxing. "I understand how you feel, but... it doesn't make you anything like him. And besides, it has only lasted a few days."

Arthur breathes out. And nods.

"You're right."
