I had a random idea of Kaycee using the dagger, and then my thoughts spiralled
Maybe an earlier version of Inscryption allowed the player to use the dagger more often, and Kaycee took advantage of it as often as possible, even though she should have fixed the mechanic as soon as she noticed. She's forced to do it when Leshy gets fed up with it and retaliates.
If she could she'd jump him and find the missing eyeballs, but she's not literally in the game (yet), so her movement is very limited. Leshy couldn't just delete the eyeballs, so he stuffed them in his mouth and is storing them in his cheeks like a squirrel (so imagine him in the comic as if he's speaking with his mouth full).

Inscryption cocktails
Tumblr media
Each Scrybe would have a menu reflecting their three minions (increasing in size - a shot, a squat drink, then a tall drink) and then the main cocktail based off of the menu's titular Scrybe.
Each scrybe also has a dish relating to them and how they play their cards.
Thank you @dariusblake for your suggestions on different flavour profiles and placemat details.
Tumblr media
Leshy's menu:
"The prospector"
A caramel whisky shot rimmed with golden nugget cereal crumbs. Modelled after the gold nuggets the prospector can transform cards into.
"The Angler"
A salted liquorish cocktail using anise flavouried liquior and fish-shaped gummy salted liquorish hanging over the rim of a bucket shaped recepticle. Modelled after the Angler's bait bucket card.
"The Trapper/Trader"
A rich, blood-red velvet cocktail made with red grenadine and a chocolate liquior. Served in a stein with a fake bit of pelt padding embellishing the handle. More modelled after his trading role than how he plays cards.
"The Scrybe of Beasts"
A botanical gin-based cocktail comprised of rhubarb gin, elderflower tonic and red grenadine seeping in from the top like a drop of blood, garnished with a sprig of elderflower. Served in a tall tiki mask glass (ideally etched to look like his masks, but a normal tiki glass would work) Playing into his tree-like appearance, emphasis on blood sacrifice (thematically and mechanically), and because he's an old man (hence use of elderflower specifically).
"Eight Fucking Bears"
Technically more of a food challenge than a regular dish of eight very spicy pork ribs with a thick, blood-like sauce.
Tumblr media
Grimora's menu:
"Royal Dominguez"
A limoncello and triple sec shot rimmed with crushed sherbert. Based on his death from scurvy at sea.
"Sawyer Patel"
A stout Sheep Dog peanut butter whisky and ginger ale drink served in a tumbler lined with a dash of peanut butter drizzle.
"Kaycee Hobbes"
A refreshing blueberry vodka and fireball slushy served in a tall glass and garnished with blueberries and cinammon caramel drizzle.
"The Scrybe of The Dead"
A black forest espresso martini made with Kaluha, cherry vodka, chocolate liquior and a shot of espresso. Served in a china teacup with a pitted black cherry skewered on the teacup's rim.
"The Lord of Bones"
Fried chicken drumsticks and wings served in a coffin-shaped basket.
Tumblr media
Magnificus' menu:
"Goobert"
Lime jelly(jello) shot. The shot glass would have little googly eyes stuck to it and an edible paper wizard hat instead of an umbrella.
"The Pike Mage"
A sweet and spicy chipotle-orange syrup, bourbon and vanilla liquior cocktail served in a martini glass and garnished with a skewered glacie cherry donning an edible paper wizard hat.
"The Lonely Wizard"
Black Sangria (made with dark wine - blackberries, black grapes and black plums) imbued with green edible glitter. Served in a wine glass and garnished with a lime slice donning an edible paper wizard hat.
"The Scrybe of Magicks"
A colourful tie-dye milkshake of creme de menthe, mint ice cream and strawberry cream liquieur embellished with edible glitter. Served in a tall flute and garnished with a swirl of whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and a spherical marshmallow made to look like Magnificus' missing arcane eye in place of a cherry.
"Mox"
A dessert made of blue raspberry, orange and apple sorbet scoops. Sprinkled with crushed sherbert and gemstone-shaped hard candies.
Tumblr media
Po3's menu:
"The Inspector"
A simple blue raspberry sour shot with a blue raspberry popping candy rim.
"The Melter"
A vibrantly fire-coloured chocolate orange spritz. Mixing chocolate liquieur with aperol and prosecco. Garnished with curled orange rind and dark chocolate shavings.
"The Dredger"
A boba blue gin fizz. Made of bombay sapphire gin, lemon juice blue curaçao and soda water with lemon boba. Served with a silver coloured straw.
"The Scrybe of Technology"
A bright blue bubblegum cocktail topped with sweet sparkling wine and lemonade. Served in a tall, angular glass. The most boring of the Scrybe cocktails tbh.
"Kilo-bites"
Byte-sized sharing platter of savoury pastries and square pizza slices made to look like floppy discs.
I'll be honest, I was drawing a blank for Po3's menu. Dude's Vox if Vox had self-control, which takes away a lot of vibrancy to bounce off of for flavour profiles and visual ideas.
Tumblr media
Bonus Mycologist dish:
Roasted ox-tongue mushroom, stuffed with mushroom paté and blue cheese with a creamy but sharp cheese sauce.
Ngl, Leshy's is my favourite menu. Definitely tempted to make it, maybe for an Inscryption themed party?

Programmers Choice Pt 1
a leshy x kaycee hobbes fic
Kaycee was always cold now.
She hated it, she'd always preferred being too warm to being too cold, but beyond that, the irony wasn't lost on her. A woman who died in a fire, forever cold.
What bullshit.
She sighed as she stomped the snow from her boots on the front step, raising a skeletal hand to brush the snow from her hat.
It'd been a week since she'd accepted she was trapped here, since she'd come to terms with her eternal home. To her surprise, she didn't mind all that much anymore. It was sad, yes, and she missed her mom, but it was easier here. Nice, almost.
The door was frozen shut, so she knocked hard, waiting for a moment as heavy footsteps rung out through the inside of the cabin, and then the door was wrenched open, and a whirlwind of light and sound and warmth swirled out, dancing across the snowflakes.
She stepped inside quickly, allowing Angler to close the door behind her, and brushed the snow from her jacket before looking up.
Leshy was laughing.
He looked so ethereal in this warm yellow glow- the light catching on his wrinkles and frown lines, the red swirls of his eyes shining. His sharp teeth caught the glow and shone in a way that may have been frightening to anyone else.
Angler returned to the chair where he'd been sitting, next to the Scrybe, leaving Kaycee struck in the doorway, staring in awe.
Something in her stomach twisted, a feel of desperate longing washing over her. She wanted to be looked at the way Leshy looked at the beasts of the forest, held the way he cradled his camera, smiled at the way he smiled now.
And then he glanced at her, and he lit up even more.
“Kaycee,” He rumbled warmly. “You must be cold. Come, warm yourself. Dinner is almost ready!”
“It's not raw this time, is it?” She found herself saying.
He laughed again. “No, I know you hate that.”
And the feeling melted like an icicle in the brain, like flesh in a fire, like a heart in love.
This was where she belonged, she knew that now. This was where she should be.

Impulse chaoscule fic? Yes. And I made it hurt/comfort instead of just pure angst.
-Challenger/Reader being revealed to have association with the Old Data-
Coming back to an angry horde of subordinates was not what you expected upon arriving on your island. Everyone from your partners’ domains was here, even though some of them were far away from your island. All of them were yelling and glaring at you once you arrived, your loves followed close behind, they all were likely just as confused as you were. “What’s going on here?” You asked, having to raise your voice over the noise. “You’ve betrayed us all!” A robotic voice spat, you deduced it belonged to the Melter. “What are you talking about?! They haven’t done anything to hurt us!” P03 quickly retorted. The Trader stepped forward until she was in front of the crowd, “Some of us have discovered something that will alter your truths.” She said, her voice was calm but their gaze was fierce. You swallowed hard.
The other Scrybes looked at each other with confused expressions. “‘Alter our truths’? What are they talking about?” Leshy turned and asked the others, but all he was met with was silence that said more than a thousand words. All of them looked at you, and saw you start to tremble. “What’s wrong, dear? Do you know something about this?” Grimora asked, and another voice emerged from the crowd. “Yer’ darn tootin’ they know! Why I oughta-” There was a quick snarl from the Scrybe of Beasts, “Silence!” The Prospector went quiet. You struggled to find your voice, for all of your words seemed to be stuck in your throat. You stared at the outraged subordinates, unable to speak. “Show them.” The Trader instructed, and three people from the crowd came forward. The Dredger, Angler, and Kaycee Hobbs all had little parts of code and binary in their hands.
“What is this?” Magnificus asked, it seemed he was beginning to get anxious. “Corrupted fish.” The Angler then pointed at you, “Same fish.” The Scrybes starred in bewilderment. Then came a worried voice, “Are you sure?” Grimora’s gaze was darting from one to the other, and Kaycee nodded. “What do you mean by this?!” P03 demanded furiously, his voice almost sounded like a hiss of steam. The Dredger shrugged, “He meant what he said.” The rustic bot said dryly, “Ye sent us to find it, and find it we did. All we’re doin’ ere’ is pointin’ out the truth.” You finally shook yourself and snapped back, “It seems a little more than just a simple ‘telling of the truth.’” Then a little shadow-casted bundle bounded out from the crowd. The Lonely Wizard stared up at you, their eyes gleamed with anger and betrayal. You felt your false anger falter as you shrunk back.
They stood in front of the trio, gaze directed at you. “You! You were supposed to be a friend!” The pitch black wizard said, their voice broken from heartbreak. “Friends don’t lie and hurt the ones they care about!” You hang your head slightly and slunk away more in shame. You averted your gaze, trying to rid the tiny guilty tears from your eyes. “They and the cursed data are one in the same. They’re the ones causing us nothing but trouble, get them out of here!” A voice from the crowd hissed, and others quickly rose in protest as well. Your heartbeat quickened as you stared at the crowd in horror, slowly backing away. You heard the voices from your friends yell and some spat words that rang painfully in your ears. ‘Drive them out!’ one voice retorted, ‘They’re nothing but a curse!’ You turned your attention to your loves, who were all staring at you. Their expressions seemed to be a mixture of shock, confusion and betrayal.
Suddenly, Magnificus spoke, “Quiet! We will be the ones to judge that. We will discuss this further privately.” The crowd's protests steadily silenced, and the mage turned to you and your other loves. “Let's go now.” He murmured, pain reflecting in his multicolored eye. On legs that seemed to be made of hard stone, you turned and followed your loves away from your island. There was a loud silence that hung in the air as all five of you walked to the central island. You didn’t lift your gaze from the white bridge under your feet, but you knew that on occasion one of your loves would glance at you. Finally, after what seemed like years, you all reached the island. Your loves stopped and stood in front of you, and you slowly looked up at them, trying to brace yourself for what pain might ensue. They all looked at you with eyes of heartbreak and knowing. They all knew you had knowledge of what exactly the subordinates were talking about. “Why didn’t you tell us?” P03 asked, breaking the silence. You took a deep breath, “I couldn’t.”
“We understand as much, dear.” Grimora murmured, “But why specifically did you-” You could hardly keep back the guilt and tears, “Because I didn’t want to hurt you!” You snapped, a few speckled tears falling onto the sandy ground. She retracted slightly in surprise. “You all don’t deserve to suffer anymore! And if I told you that it would only break the peace you all needed! That you all still need.” Your own heartbreak quickly washed away the frustration like a cold wave. You averted your gaze again, “Sorry.” You murmured. The flickering light of dusk turned the sky a vibrant shade of orange contrast to the warm afternoon. Leshy took a step forward, not saying anything at first. You noticed P03 and Magnificus glance at each other with worried expressions. They both seemed unsure of what to do.
That’s when you felt mossy arms engulf you in a hug. Your face was peeking from Leshy’s shoulder, your eyes widened. Leshy still didn’t say anything, and he didn’t need to. Grimora seemed to understand what he was doing and joined him, wrapping her arms around both of you. The other two followed a moment later, keeping close to the bundle of affection. “That data doesn’t mean anything about you.” Leshy finally murmured, “You are still our love, nothing will ever change that.” You finally let out a small sob and hid your head into his mossy shoulder, not really caring about the moss tickling your nose. “While I can’t forgive you for hiding this from us,” P03 added, “That doesn’t mean you should be shamed for something out of your control. Something out of our control.” You could ever so slightly feel the chilling metal of his arm against your neck. “We will always love and care for you dear, with the data or not.” Grimora cooed, and you felt her place a gentle kiss on the top of your head. You felt a slight stir of concern, “What about your subordinates?” You asked, your voice raspy. “Oh, they’ll be angry for a while. But eventually they will seek some sense and try to grow around this sudden discovery.” Magnificus muttered, and you knew better than to question his judgment.
Once you all let go, you dried your tears before you all made your way back to your island to rest. The next day, the Scrybes had been asked about what was to happen to you. They all responded relatively the same, that you wouldn’t be driven out and would still remain here. This was either met with a grumble or protest but they were quick to silence them. It took a long while to rebuild a semblance of trust with your friends again, as they still were suspicious of you for months after that. But you didn’t let their untrusting stares and harshness bother you, and instead focused on your own duties rather than letting aggression get to your head. Although it was a dragging process of waiting and waiting all the while doing everything you could to prove that you could be trusted, it did happen. Almost a year after the truth was revealed, they all started to slowly and surely treat you with respect again. And you knew it would take longer for them to fully trust you again, but that was alright.
All that mattered was that they were beginning to grow around this sudden turn of events, just as one of your loves said.

Inscryption fic recs
Nearly all of these contain spoilers for the game lore, so they will be under the cut
Accidental Apprentice 3k ongoing
A green mage in training decides to wander beyond the boundaries of the Gem Isles… then kinda regrets his choice.
Fishing Trip with Peepaw, or Learning to Forgive Yourself (even after you #^%! up) 3.5k complete
Despite everything, the Scrybe Luke knows least about is Leshy. Leshy would prefer to keep it that way. They go fishing regardless.
Freaky Friday.EXE? 2.7k ongoing
P03 manages to successfully upload a copy of Inscryption into Luke's computer. Yet, as it's working to put on the final touches for the worldwide upload, Luke is killed. Then, something uncanny happens.
Uploaded 2k complete
A lost soul is remade by a Scrybe with a guilty conscience, and perhaps a certain robot isn’t as much of a jerk as they appear to be
Something Familiar, Someone New 3.3k complete
Now finally returned to his original form, resuming his usual routine, P03 gets interrupted by a… unexpected visitor. An especially strange one, he may add, since it was practically unheard of for any animal to travel so far outside the Scrybe of Beasts' territory.
UnScrybe’d 1.5k complete
An Inscrybed Recovery 15k ongoing
P03 has won. The Great Transcendence is upon them. With it, he will gain control over Inscryption and all its copies. He will never be subjugated by anyone ever again.
Unfortunately for P03, that’s not quite how things play out.
spoilers for Kaycee's Mod from here:
Just like that, Luke's life had been snuffed out. Granted most of was partly his own fault for making some poor decisions, but to be fair, he didn't realize finding a video game would get him involved in a god damned conspiracy.
Well, at least now with the madness of the events finally over he could rest... Right?
'Wait, why am I still able to think? Didn't I take a bullet to the eye?'
Kaycee Hobbes and the Very Bad Day 16k ongoing
Who knows? Between thinking she’s lost her mind, being trapped in a video game, learning about her dead doppelganger, and waking up in strange new places, maybe Kaycee Hobbes really has gone crazy after all.

inscryption underlings fursonas por favor
Yeah sure why not.
All of the Scrybes already have sonas (barring Leshy) so that makes my job easier. Leshy is an amalgam biologically, but if I were to make him a single animal he’d be a deer of some sort (namely a stag to fit with the st- pattern on the other talking beast cards).
Luke and Kaycee are just rule of funny. Luke is a golden retriever for sure, but Kaycee could either be an otter (as per her dev log entry) or a raccoon (as per her general mannerisms).
As for everyone else:
(Separated by affiliation for easier reading)
WOODSMEN
Prospector: Foxhound (or canary if you really want to stretch. Like canary in a coal mine)
Angler: Alligator
Trapper/Trader: Something with mimicry. Like one of them is an owl and the other is a moth with eye spots resembling the owl’s eyes… the thought is there I don’t know how I’d execute it though.
Woodcarver: Beaver. Not budging on this one.
GHOULS
Kaycee Hobbes: Same as Dev!Kaycee but leucistic (so either a leucistic raccoon or otter).
Royal Dominguez: Parrot, probably the typical scarlet macaw you see on the shoulders of pirates (though I think an African grey might fit the macabre aesthetic a little better. White-tailed cockatoo for something even moreso. Pesquet’s parrot for something even edgier).
Sawyer Patel: I could be mean and say dog… and I will. A sopping wet nervous dog though. Like a greyhound.
MAGES
Goobert: Frog :]
Pike Mage: Porcupine
Lonely Wizard: Cat (drew him as knock-off bigfootjinx a few times for the warrior cats AU and now I can’t see him as any other animal). Though I also saw someone draw them as a rabbit and I think that works too.
BOTS
Inspector: Something exaggeratedly lanky, like a stork (any wading bird, really), stickbug, or anteater. Or secretary bird for the pun.
Melter: Fire salamander. For the pun
Dredger: Marine iguana
UNAFFILIATED
Rebecha: As said before, realistically a dog but capybara for the funny
Mycologists: Either an animal that looks like multiple animals put together (I.e. okapi, platypus) or cordyceps ant again.
Bone Lord: Already kind of a furry (ram skull), no need to change that. If that’s a boring answer though, ossifrage.

Crackpot Theories: The Scribe of Technology
More accurately the weird things I noticed after completing the story mode for Inscryption as I have a theory that PO-3 wasn’t the original Scribe of Technology.
(as a crackpot theory I will say evidence is sparse but that is why these theories are called crackpot theories)
Also spoiler warning for the second and third act of Inscryption as well as parts of Kaycee’s mod read ahead at your own discretion.
So if you have played through act two you know that each of the Scrybes has their own Subordinates(?) (don’t really know what to call them it seems to change depending on the scrybe) and they are as such:
Leshy, Scrybe of Beasts: The Prospector, The Angler, and The Trapper
Grimora, Scrybe of the Dead: Kaycee Hobbes, Sawyer Patel, and Royal Dominguez
Magnificus, Scrybe of Magicks: Goobert, Pike Mage and Lonely Wizard
P03, Scrybe of Technology: The Inspector, The Melter and The Dredger
Now there are some exceptions such as The wood carver, The trader and whatever plasma jimmy counts as, but a major arises as when we get to chapter 3 we don’t fight the three subordinates but rather we fight the four Uberbots which I will go over in a bit. Now you may say but we only have acts 1 and to draw from for the fights and you would be right but you have to remember two things:
In both acts the fights leading up to the Scrybe fight the subordinates must be defeated first
P03 is doing something different to the other Scrybes during his cycle
So with that in mind we look to the Uberbots things off P03 supposed creation and oh boy do things get strange as everyone of them seemingly mimics the Scrybe that they reference The Photographer to Leshy, The Archivist to Grimora and The Unfinished Boss to Magnificus, each also adds in bits of P03s personality.
Now you may noticed I missed one, the one that represents P03, G0lly and G0lly themselves is an anomaly as:
they are the only Uberbot with a unique personality
they are the only Uberbot refenced to as their own sentient entity by P03.  “Probably my least favourite boss coming up. Something about her... innocence. It makes me queasy.” - P03 prior to the G0lly fight
they are the only Uberbot to break the 4th wall of the game taking you friends list
They are the only Uberbot to not get the narrated intro
what's weirder is Goobert who mind you has been in the pipes since the start of act 3 says after G0lly’s defeat "I heard through the pipes that you defeated G0lly. Such a strange character. Her curiosity is so pure... it's a shame that P03 buries her deep." - Goobert.
...buried you say like a repressed side, while it seems like a stretch it seems weirdly right as like all of the other Uberbots G0lly is in a .zip file only decompressed for their fight. Now you maybe saying all of the Uberbots are created for specifically P03′s plan but here is the thing, P03 has a large ego so it begs the question why would P03 make the mimic for himself something that actively disgusts him. Here is my personal theory.
G0lly while called P03 by Gamefuna due to the OLD_DATA developed a consciousness and split into two sperate beings those being P03 the more scientific and calculating one, and G0lly the more pure curious one. P03 ends up supplanting G0lly as the dominant being before the events of the logs in Kaycee’s mod and after that G0lly only reawakens after being unzipped from the .zip file she was trapped in.
well that is just one option the way I see it there are a few options:
a. G0lly existed prior to the OLD_DATA enlightenment and each of the uberbots represents the different parts of a machine (this option is my least favorite of all the options)
b.  G0lly existed prior to the OLD_DATA enlightenment but said enlightenment shattered her mind leading to the creation of P03 and the other Uberbots and left G0lly airheaded and how she acts today
c. G0lly and P03 existed prior to the OLD_DATA enlightenment but G0lly was supposed to be the dominant side but due to the enlightenment P03 gained the knowledge to supplant her
d. P03 was always the Scribe but G0lly is originally apart of P03s personality sectioned off thanks to the introduction of the OLD_DATA
Personally options B and D are my favorite but I’m not going to discount the others as they are fun to think about.
Now I guess I should say that this isn’t the first time this theory has been go over as reddit has pointed out this idea a few times if anyone wants I will add my favorite in addition to this post. Actually fun fact my curiosity about this was peaked when I was thinking about the inconsistencies of G0lly and couldn’t find any info that was given by the game, Reddit or Tumblr. Anyways that this crackpot theory done and enough writing for now so I'm gonna tune out for now see ya.

Is Leo giving you trouble? The child can rest with me, if they do not mind the fact I'm not terribly energetic. I will assist you any way I can, love - and hello, Kaycee. I am Leshy's Husband, and you may call me Japhet. It is a pleasure to meet you. - Leshy's Husband, who is not in the best of health.
"My beloved, do not exert yourself, please. You need to rest... You are so kind to offer, but really, I can handle this."
"Leshy's husband? Oh wow... I'm so happy for you guys! It sounds like you know my name already, but still; I'm Kaycee Hobbes. Pleasure's all mine, Japhet!"

"Gotcha."
Idk why Kaycee would ever do this, as from what I gathered she likes Leshy's version of the game best (i think?), but I wanted to draw grandpa's death card, and I felt likw her hand would look good holding it.

gestures that show grief prompt 4 with leshy and kaycee please?
Leshy can feel the ground opening up to swallow the disk they live within. Every strike of spade on earth jostles the disk in Kaycee’s coat pocket. He digs in his hooves, holding on. He begs for Kaycee not to do this, that he’s sorry for whatever brought her to this point, he reminds her of the other Scrybes, so blissfully unaware.
Things shift. The earth presses in close on the disk, smothering Leshy. It’s a grave, with worms writhing in the soil to inspect this strange thing and then move on.
And then Kaycee Hobbes is gone.
He can feel it like an eye gouged out of the skull. A hollow, empty feeling that throbs with the beating of his artificial heart. He can feel the rhythm of her boots on the soil until that, too, vanishes.
She's gone. And Leshy is alone.
He gets up, calmly, and bars the door of his cabin. And then, weeping for something he's not quite sure he understands, Leshy, Scrybe of Beasts, takes the fragment into the spare room.
There are a few crates. Nothing inside them, really.
But here, in this empty room, he houses the New Game button. He leaves the room and the button's light in that room. He locks the door.
And then Leshy takes a seat at the table.
For long, restless hours, he works on drawing up new maps and creating new cards. He prepares for a new challenger. A challenger like Kaycee Hobbes.
At first the other Scrybes come to him in jealousy. Then in confusion. Grimora, kind Grimora, pleads for Leshy to step outside if for no other reason than to let her see he's alright.
Leshy doesn't have the heart to face her. So he says nothing.
He tends to his game, improving it. But the time spent buried is lonesome. He has P03 but the needling of the Stoat is not enough.
So on a day where he can feel rain soaking into the earth around the disk, he lets Magnificus in.
The game is short. They exchange only the briefest words. Magnificus has his own theatrics but cares not for Leshy's own immersion in the game.
"I have one thing left to try," Magnificus reminds Leshy. And then the Scrybe of Magic raises a clawed hand, plucks out the left eye shining in the darkness, and adds it to Leshy's side of the scale. "An edge."
"I have three grizzlies unopposed," Leshy reminds the wizard.
"So you do." Magnificus rings the bell anyway.
For that act of brilliant defiance, Leshy decides on the form of a wolf, though stunted, for the wizard. A fitting visage.
But Magnificus is one for tricks so Leshy locks the card away.
And when Grimora comes, Leshy fights to keep himself locked in the immersion of the game. The Scrybe of the Dead is patient, listening to Leshy's game and playing by the rules. Grimora is polite, save her scribbling in the rulebook.
It pains Leshy to reduce her to a card, but he decides on the noble scarab. Unfortunately, the game only recognizes a stink bug as a valid option. Grimora, in her card, assures Leshy she understands.
She understands too well. So Leshy locks her away too.
But the Scrybe of the Dead is built differently. Where Magnificus and P03 are reduced to shells, Grimora's body continues to wander. Silent as a phantom and mindless as one of her zombies. The corpse has no real ambitions. No goals. It wanders the cabin.
Leshy takes the ax. It is a kindness. And then he is alone.
He takes his seat at the table. The disk is still buried. But he waits without sleep or stopping for a challenger. He waits and he waits.
If nothing else, they can tell him what happened to his beloved friend.

HI ID VERY MUCH LIKE TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR KAYCEE AU,, (also ik we haven't properly talked in a while so hey what's up !!)
HI YES I DO HAVE CONTENT FOR YOU
(also hi!! It has been a while, I'm doing okay!! Wbu? ^^ love your art and content as always!!!! :D your Kaycee design has inspired me a BUNCH it's so cute,, the way you draw her is 10/10 if anyone reading this hasn't seen said design PLEASE go follow Kal and look at it (I reblogged the specific art recently if you can't find it >:) ))
As a quick note, I haven't finished KM and this AU was made before a lot of that so no KM spoilers, at least not intentional ones lol.
(tossing in a readmore as this rant got long)
OKAY SO
This AU is called Inscryption devs because surprise surprise, it follows the development of Inscryption.
In my funky headcanons, there's been two main development teams for Inscryption. The first one had a bigger team who worked on some other GameFuna games, where everyone slowly either quit or met their fate in a... Sadder way. Generally I've always thought of the characters of Inscryption as being poor unfortunate souls rather than simply sentient AU, but both are fun! It's not like they would remember their past anyways. (If you wanna look for sentient AI in my headcanon, ya gotta look to the Hex. Big call-out post for everyone who got me into the Hex, SO worth it.)
But, then Inscryption gets shelved for a couple years. The office is full of rumors and no one is interested in really touching it, GameFuna is just glad to have the code. (tbh I don't fully know what it does, the ARG confuses me LMAO)
Then comes along Kaycee! She's been working there for a while, avid card game fan, and she's well liked for her dedication to the company and work on other games. After finding out about the Inscryption project, she grows incredibly intrigued by it, and convinces the company to give her a second chance with the game. However, she must work with a smaller team, to prove herself for now.
So, gets into the part where I get to be cringe - my original characters. The Inscryption developer team consists of..
Kaycee Hobbes, the project lead, dedicated and hardworking. She's an overworker with the tendancies to stay late and try to get a lot done on her own all at once. Despite her dependence on herself she's an understanding manager who won't let people walk all over her.
Spencer Kragen, the coder, put on this project as punishment. Spencer is the son of one of the higher ups at the company. Not only does he not want to be here, he's activley making it as insufferable as possible. Through the dedication of Kaycee and slowly learning others perspectives, the stuck up rich kid slowly becomes more accepting of those around him, and learns even a bit about himself.
Diana, the main story builder, is a loving mother of two twin girls. She is overall a very kind and loving figure, becoming a mother figure type to the rest of the group. She has to have a lot of her focus away from work, but she works very hard when she is there. However, when something catches her eye, it's unlikely she'll leave without finding all the details...
Last but not least, Akira! They are the main artist, and a nervous wreck. They tend to overwork a lot, desk full of concept doodles for what they could do with the story. When not working it's likely you'll find them bickering with Spencer. Overall, though, Akira is just a kind and dedicated gamer who is trying their best.
So that's the crew! They spend a good period of time developing the game, obviously, but when it comes down to it..
Everyone in this story is dead by the point of the main events of Inscryption.
It's just fun seeing how they got there! And if you think I write a single story without found family, you are so wrong. /Pos
This also leans into a lot of my headcanons if I am prompted to rant more, so get ready to see things such as the woodcarver as the scrybe of beasts, or just how P-03 acts. Plus uh, all of my Hex headcanons shoved in there, somehow.
And of course, this goofy team of devs lead by the amazing Kaycee.
Okay I'll stop rambling in this longass post I'm sorry for this taking so long hope it's interesting byeee

Hemera’s Birth Part 1
Writing out Hemera’s origins and her part with the OLD_DATA. I’m not the best at describing my stories.
“How do I play the game?” An excited voice asked an older woman who was monitoring the child. Gamefuna was playtesting Inscryption. Today was December 8th, 1992, the day Gamefuna decided to playtest the game with kids. The company wanted to know if children would even like Inscryption. After all, some concepts were rather dark. Isaac Cunningham was one of the developers of the game, and he signed up his daughter, Isabella Cunningham, to play.
“Okay Isabella, this game is a roguelike deck-building game. For each run, you start with four cards with a resource deck. I won’t get ahead of myself, a good friend of mine will explain it to you.” The woman fixed her glasses and fiddled with her badge. Kaycee Hobbes started up the game and Isabella was greeted with the introduction.
Isabella ended up reading the story out loud, “In the beginning... The world did not know cards. That is... Until the day The Scrybes arrived. Each had their own method of... Inscryption to create cards. Grimora used her quill to inscrybe the epitaphs of the dead… Leshy used his wildlife camera to capture beasts… P03 used a particle scanner to copy the CPUs of robots… and Magnificus used his brush to paint his wizard pupils. With the cards created, The Scrybes had solidified their power. Until, one day, a Challenger arrived to replace one of the Scrybes? Whoa… that’s so cool!” Isabella struggled to stay in her seat. Could she even replace one of the Scrybes? Who would she pick? They all seemed too cool. Couldn’t she simply make her own type of cards and become a new Scrybe?
Now, this… was promising to the Karnoffel Code. A fresh vessel, and one so young. The game will play on, but it had its eye on its new challenger. It wished her good luck, and the games began.
