New Blog: Change

Change has never been easy for me.  (Like for many people.) I am being confronted by two large changes in my world in the next two months.  Both changes leave me feeling quite vulnerable.  Both changes are really, really good for my friends, giving them a chance to fulfill a dream.  For me, it means I am not going to be as close to either.  For me, it doesn’t mean the end of a friendship, but certainly it is going to change with time and distance. They both are so supportive of me  and will drop anything to help.  How lucky for me that they are so wonderful and that they have been so important in my world for this length of time.  However as the expression goes nothing stays the same except for change.  

One thing that has not changed is that I read the newest Kristen Ashley’s book in the series called Avenging Angels.  Her new novels read more like her older novels with quirky characters and interesting events.  Suspending some reality is important as people fall into relationships quickly and the main characters seem to live in their own world, but I really enjoy visiting her novels and the fun characters.  

Another author, Katy Regnery published her last book in her latest series. The novel wraps up the whole story line with the Stewarts of Skagway.  The books take place in Alaska.  The Stewarts own a tourist business.  They offer a variety of opportunities for camping, hiking and other outdoor sports as well as places to stay.  All the brothers and sisters spend their summer working for the family business. Reeve, the youngest Stewart has made some decisions for moving forward with her life.   However she has not told her family about them. Reeve is leaving to go to college after the new year in Anchorage to become a nurse.  As part of her leaving, she is not making a connection with Aarron, even though she realized romance with him is possible.

Elise was equally busy this week.  She sent in an interview with Amanda Flowers and her newest book, Gingerbread Danger.  There is also a guest review of Christina Lynch and her newest book, Pony Confidential.  Enjoy reading.

O Silencioso Canto da Sereia é o primeiro livro da série "𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒆 𝑭𝒂𝒅𝒂𝒔 𝑴𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒐" da autora Katy Regnery. Lembro que o meu primeiro contato com a escrita da autora foi "O Coração da Fera" que é o segundo livro da série. E como eu resolvi voltar a ler a série, decidi que leria na ordem. Mesmo que ler a série fora da ordem não tenha problemas. Pois são livros independentes.

Nesse primeiro volume temos a história de Laire que é filha de um pescador de uma ilha de Outer Banks. Laire é uma jovem que apesar de ter sido criada na região, ela tem o sonho de sair da ilha e se tornar uma estilista. Mas ela terá que fazer isso de uma forma que seu pai aceita.

Se de um lado temos uma jovem humilde e que luta pelos seus sonhos. No outro lado temos Erik, que é o filho do governador da Carolina do Norte. Ele está juntamente com sua família na região para curtir o verão. E o caminho dele cruza com o de Laire, quando a moça acaba indo na casa dele fazer uma entrega para uma festa.

Logo no primeiro encontro dos dois. Eles se encantam um por outro, porém, eles vivem em realidades diferentes.

Laire tá tentando seguir com seu planos e sua família nunca aceitaria a ideia dela está se envolvendo com alguém que não mora na ilha. E Erik tem sua vida já montada, pois ele terá que seguir os caminhos do pai.

Mesmo indo contra tudo e todos. E fazendo suas próprias regras, Laire e Erik, acabam se envolvendo em um lindo romance de verão. No entanto, os dois acabam se separando e anos depois eles se recontram com mágoas e segredos entre eles.

Mais uma vez a escrita da Katy Regnery me fez ficar emocionada e suspirando enquanto lia. Senão me gano, esse foi o primeiro livro que a autora escreveu. E posso dizer que ele não tem erros aos meus olhos. Ele é PERFEITO para mim! E achei massa a atitude da autora de doar % das vendas do livro para uma instituição.

Só pelo título dar para perceber que o enredo do livro foi inspirado na história da "A Pequena Sereia". E Laire seria a Ariel e Erik seria o Erik mesmo. E falando nos protagonistas, eu ameiiii eles no todo. Laire é uma personagem que vai adquirindo forças e mesmo com os obstáculos da vida, ela não ficou amargurada com o tempo.

E ah o Erik 😍. Ele é PERFEITO! Mesmo separado da Laire, ele não conseguia seguir em frente e nem virou um mulherengo. E quando reencontrou com a Laire ele não a tratou mal, ele só quis respostas por ela ter saído da sua vida.

Enfim só leiam esse livro! Ele é MARAVILHOSO ❤️🧜

Reeve by Katy Regnery

Reeve is the 6th book in the Stewarts of Skagway.  The books take place in AlaskaThe Stewarts own a tourist business.  They offer a variety of opportunities for camping, hiking and other outdoor sports as well as places to stay.  All the brothers and sisters spend their summer working for the family business, but when fall comes, they have more time off. 

Reeve is the youngest of all the Stewarts and as such, she feels she is treated as the baby. She loves her siblings and her family, but she needs to grow herself.  She applied for nursing school in Anchorage and was accepted with a great scholarship.  However, she has not shared any of this with her family, afraid of their reaction.  

On top of this, she has begun to realize that she has a romantic interest in the deputy Aaron Adams, however she wants to keep him at bay since she is leaving. He wants to spend as much time with her as he allows, the fact his dad lives in Anchorage is an added benefit.   

Reeve needs to tell her family and come to grips with Aaron.  Reeve is the only one of the Stewarts of this generation unattached, but not for long.  Reeve by Katy Regnery is a fun read.

The Vixen and the Vet (Modern Fairytale #1) 

Savannah is hurt by a boyfriend and burned by a source (that happens to be said boyfriend) and runs home to Virginia to lick her wounds and figure out what to do next. There she finds Asher Lee. Wounded and lonely, Asher has remained hidden from the world after returning from war without a hand and with horrific facial scars. Savannah might just be a reason for Asher to learn to live again - but is it enough for him to take a chance on a world that might reject him. 

I am not usually one for fairytale rewrites - or fairytales in general - but I have always had a soft spot for Beauty and the Beast and was just curious how Ms. Regnery handled this modern adaptation. ( Plus - I loved her Summerhaven Trio - see my thoughts here. ) 

Savannah is an odd duck in her small town and I do so love an odd duck and her sister is the perfect small-town beauty and instead of hating each other - they actually love each other dearly. So I was already into this by chapter one. Asher is a great brooding hero with a reason to brood. Their love story is sweet and a little bit heartwrenching and watching them both try to figure out how to be together is real and raw and lovely. 

There is an almost sexual assault in one scene - Savannah rescues herself - and the fallout of that sequence is fascinating to me. Maybe it is because I am a Yankee? (It is true.) Or maybe it is because I really enjoyed hearing about a white boy get beaten up for being a jackass? I don’t know - but I liked it.  

I would say - this is for you if like remakes of fairytales or if you enjoy love story that is well-paced and hits you in the feels.
