Banarasi sarees
#BanarasiHandmadeSaree
Banarasi Handmade Saree is an exquisite and traditional Indian attire that holds a special place in the hearts of women across the country. Renowned for its rich heritage, intricate designs, and superior craftsmanship, Banarasi sarees are a true symbol of elegance and opulence. Let's explore the enchanting world of Banarasi Handmade Sarees and delve into its fascinating features.
Originating from Varanasi, also known as Banaras, in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, Banarasi sarees have a history dating back several centuries. The art of weaving these sarees has been passed down through generations, with weavers meticulously crafting each piece by hand. The weaving technique used in Banarasi sarees is known as 'Karigari,' which involves weaving silk threads into beautiful patterns, often inspired by Mughal motifs, nature, and religious symbols.
The hallmark of Banarasi Handmade Sarees is the use of pure silk as the base fabric. The silk used is of superior quality, giving the sarees a lustrous and luxurious appearance. The intricate designs are woven using gold or silver zari threads, which add a touch of grandeur and sophistication to the saree. The zari work in Banarasi sarees involves the skillful interweaving of metallic threads, creating stunning patterns that shimmer and catch the light.
Banarasi Handmade Sarees are renowned for their wide range of designs, each with its own unique charm. Some popular patterns include the floral-inspired Jangla, the delicate and intricate Butidar, the elegant Tanchoi, and the captivating Tissue sarees. These sarees often feature elaborate motifs such as paisleys, peacocks, elephants, and geometric patterns, meticulously woven into the fabric. The sheer artistry and attention to detail in each Banarasi saree make it a true masterpiece.
Apart from their aesthetic appeal, Banarasi Handmade Sarees hold immense cultural significance. They are considered a symbol of luxury and are often worn on special occasions such as weddings, festivals, and religious ceremonies. Many families in India consider it a tradition to pass down Banarasi sarees from one generation to the next, making them cherished heirlooms.
To preserve the authenticity and quality of Banarasi Handmade Sarees, the Indian government has awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to this craft. The GI tag ensures that only sarees woven in the traditional manner in Varanasi can be called "Banarasi sarees," protecting the integrity of this art form.
In recent times, Banarasi Handmade Sarees have gained global recognition and popularity. Women around the world admire their timeless beauty and elegance, and many choose to incorporate these sarees into their special occasions and celebrations.
In conclusion, Banarasi Handmade Sarees are a treasure trove of artistry and tradition. With their exquisite craftsmanship, intricate designs, and rich heritage, they continue to captivate people's hearts. Whether you are a connoisseur of fine textiles or simply appreciate the beauty of Indian culture, a Banarasi Handmade Saree is sure to leave you spellbound and make a lasting impression. #BanarasiSaree #HandmadeSaree #IndianWeaves

CIKGU SAADIAH
Tumblr media
Kisah ni berlaku time aku umur 15 tahun. Sekolah aku ni memang banyak minah lawa², tak kirela cikgu ataupun pelajar . Sumer badan baek² dok!
Aku ni memang terkenal kat sekolah pasal nakal dan suke usik pompuan. Yg buruk aku kutuk, yg lawa aku puji.
Cikgu² yg mengajar kelas aku ni ade due yg lawa dan mempunyai bentuk badan yg mampat. Miss Tan guru Bahasa English dan Cikgu Saadiah Guru bahasa Melayu.
Aku memang selalu kene marahh dgn dorang due ni. Terpaling teruk dgn Cikgu Saadiah bab aku slalu kurang ajar dgn dia, tak buat homework buat bising semua. Yang pelik plak, aku slalu dapat markah yang tertinggi ketika Ujian..
Pada satu hari ni, aku bawak rokok pergi sekolah member² aku sumer nk isap kat toilet. so aku pn isapla dgn dorang.
Time masok kelas bahasa melayu cikgu Saadiah bau rokok. So dia periksa la satu² beg. aku buat bodoh je sebab makbapak aku kasi isap.
Time dia bongkar beg aku, rokok aku pun jatuh kat lantai. Punya la terkejut bile dia tengking aku.
Perkataan yang dilemparkan dari dia sungguh menggeramkan, aku ade ke patut dia ckp makbapak tak ajar pe, aku pn tengking dia balek ah.
Aku lupe ape aku cakap tapi perkataan aku ni sungguh kejam dan terlalu kurang ajar.. tak sangka dia sampai nangis.
Aku pun rase serba salah bile tengok die nangis. Aku terus keluar kelas pasal dah menyesal dengan perkataan aku tuu!
Loceng pun berbunyi, aku terpakse masok kelas bahasa melayu balik untuk ambil beg, aku geram jugak bab member² tak tau tolong amek beg aku.
Time aku masok bilik darjah, sumer orang dah takda kecuali Cikgu Saadiah.. Dia termenung saje degan muke sudah jelas sedih.
Aku pergi ke arahnya dan meminta maaf. Cikgu Saadiah diam aje dan merenungku dgn wajah yg amat geram. Dia ckp
Lepas sekolah habis, aku pun pergi cari die kat bilik guru.
Aku sangat keletihan, dlm masa sejam, aku dipanggil Cikgu untk berehat... aku sangat gembira.
Time katt rumah dia tu, aku diberi tuala untuk mandi.
Cikgu saadiah : ‘Khairul, mandi kasi wangi² tau’.
aku tidak pedulikannya, Time keluar toilet tu, aku setakat memakai boxer aku je. bab rumah die takda orang bab dia tinggal sorang.
So takda la baju lelaki untuk aku. Cikgu merenung bentuk badan ku yang bermuscle itu (bab selalu g werkout). die pn ckp,
Cikgu saadiah : ‘WAh.. Lawa ehk badan khairul ni”.
aku senyum je bab malu, aku tanye dia yang aku nak pinjam baju. dijawabnya dengan saje je.
Cikgu saadiah ‘tk payah la nak pakai baju, gitu je da buat cikgu suke, kalau bogel lagi best’..
aku sangat terkejut dengan percakapannya. aku pn saje je ckp
Khairul : ‘cikgu buat ape kalau saye bogel’..
Cikgu saadiah : 'Ehehk gatal jugak ah khairul ni’
.
ujarnya aku diberi makan dan minum. lazat sungguh CIkgu saadiah masak.
Cikgu saadiah : ”khairul takda girlfriend ke, sebab khairul kan handsome, banyak pompuan kat sekolah terpikat”!
kataan nya itu membuat aku berasa semakin tidak malu untk berbicara. lalu ku jawab
”takda matair tapi khairul nak cikgu jadi matair khairul”.. DIa ketawe saje.
Cikgu Saadiah pun tibe² masuk ke bilik stornya. aku duduk kat living room je, tibe² dia panggil aku untuk masuk kat bilik dia.
Ni kali muke die nampak marah je.
Cikgu saadiah : ‘Hukuman Khairul belom berakhir lagi’.
Dia mencium bibirku. lalu berkata
Cikgu saadiah : ‘boleh tolong cikgu tak’. Konek aku yg da mula steam tu muncul tegak. aku pn berkate
Khairul : ‘bole ape salahnya.
Cikgu saadiah : " tapi ni rahsia kite due je’..
Khairul : "Baik cikgu "
dibukak boxer ku itu lalu membukak ikatan mataku saje, tercanak la konek aku yang sedang² itu. Cikgu SAadiah pun tanye aku
Cikgu saadiah : ‘pernah main dengan perempuan tak’.
Khairul : "Tak pernah cikgu"
Cikgu saadiah : "Ok takpa kalau macam tu biar cikgu ajar awak yer "
Khairul : "Baik cikgu"
Kami pon bercium² sambil dia melancap konek ku. aku rase sangat sedap. dia pun menghisap konek ku dengan rakusnya.
Kira² 10 minute, air mani ku pancut kat dalam mulutnya (sengaje)… lalu dia mencubit dan menggigit konek aku. aku pun ape lagi.. terpekik ah. Cikgu Saadiah mengeletek kaki ku selama 20 minute.
Aku tak boleh angkat sebab terlampau geli. dah la tak boleh gerak sebab kene ikat, sampai aku menangis siot.
lepas aku nangis, dia pun membuka ikatan tali. lalu die kata.
Cikgu saadiah : ‘Kat sekolah gangster tapi sekarang cam ni” hahaha.
aku diam jer dalam keadaan bogel. aku pun memeluk dia dengan erat dan cakap.
Khairul: " cikgu kite try maen pls..
Dia diam saje, aku pun membukak semua pakaian nya. ternampak kedua buah tetek nya yang selama ini menjadi mimpiku untuk dijilat.
aku jilat dengan sedap nye, pepek nye ok lar. bulu pandai jage. bile pat konek aku nk masuk je. die ckp
Cikgu saadiah : ‘btol nak maen cikgu? tk mau bilang org tau, tapi mesti ade syaratnye’.
aku angguk dan bertanye
Khairul: ‘ape syaratnya cikgu '
Aku disuruh menjilat kakinya selama 5 minit. aku pun ape lagi, rezeki depan mate. jilat ah. da lepas 5 minit, aku pun main puki die, terasa ketat gak.
sedap giler.. lagi sedap pade kene isap konek, kite try macam2 style. salah satu style time aku ikat tangan dia dan main dia cam die kene rogol.
aku main laju². terdengar suara cikgu yang meminta aku supaya berhenti. aku buat tak tau je. bab die tak ble lepaskan diri. aku senyum dan ckp
Khairul : “ni hukuman jgak”.
10 minute kemudian, aku pun terpancut kat dalam. aku tak sengaje . aku dimarah olehnya. yelah, takut mengandung. lepas tu aku minta supaya konekku dihisap lagi.. tanpa segan silu dia isap je. lame jugak kali ni.
time air mani aku pancut. dia telan semua, tapi die ckp tak sedap. lepas tu kite mandi dan berehat same2.

listen man i thoroughly enjoy the original star wars movies (ANH, TESB, ROTJ) and i love Din/Grogu/Mando Seasons 1&2, but at the end of the day, i am not a die hard star wars bitch okay 🙈 i didn’t know who Bo Kataan was before season two of Mando, i have no clue what’s happening 80% of the time on this show, i simply continue to show up in support of my baby boy and his green lil dude. and the day that those two are no longer the main characters (literally right now) i’m simply gonna stop watching 🫶🏼

A Father's Duty (35/?)
A Father's Duty on AO3
Summary: An encounter with a quantum fissure leaves Picard with more responsibility than he asked for, but he'll do what he always does—his duty.
Chapter 35
Picard sits in his chair on the bridge long enough to make his presence known, then he retreats to his ready room. There, he returns to the other Data’s logs.
It takes the rest of his shift to finish the remaining two years’ worth of recordings, and by the end he’s once again emotionally and mentally exhausted—but at least now he knows. Remembering Deanna’s advice from earlier, he uses the final half hour of his shift to clear his head, opting for relaxation as opposed to exhilaration this time to settle his mind.
It’s as if the entirety of his being is clenched tight as a fist, but gradually—his eyes closed, Chopin playing gently in his ears, the taste of Early Grey sweetened with sugar and lemon dissolving on his tongue—his thoughts loosen and wander.
There were bright spots amidst the darkness, moments where Louis appeared on screen with a smile to announce that it was his birthday (“I’m 7!”) or that he grew a full inch taller or that he lost a tooth (using two fingers to hook the corners of his mouth and pull it wide to reveal the gap where his two front teeth were missing).
Often, Louis wasn’t visible but his presence was evident in other ways: humming a tune in the background, interrupting Data to ask a question about his school work or the book he was reading, a sound that could only be him practicing the piano.
The worst is over, Picard tells himself. He can’t change the past, he can’t change what Louis went through; he can only control the here and now, help Louis recover, move forward.
Before he leaves, he checks for any messages from Deanna. As promised, she provided a list of toys for Louis but clarified that Louis should be the one to choose and that anything he chooses to play with that’s safe is technically fine. She concluded with a treatise on why Louis should have toys that takes Picard nearly ten minutes to read and leaves him feeling like a complete ass for not thinking to provide them sooner.
There’s a message from Will as well, and when Picard notices the timestamp his heart skips a beat and he moves immediately to the edge of his chair, poised to leap to his feet and run.
But the message merely informs him that Louis was briefly upset by an occurrence on the holodeck, and that he insisted he was okay, wanted to stay, and that Will is monitoring him closely.
As there’s no follow-up message, and as Picard was never paged, he assumes everything is fine.
Nevertheless, he walks more swiftly than is strictly necessary to Will’s quarters.
When Will calls for him to enter, Picard finds him and Louis sitting at Will’s dining table playing cards. Louis smiles at him, a bright, happy grin that warms Picard more thoroughly than a cup of tea or a glass of wine, a liquid warmth that seeps into his very soul.
And to think, there was a time when I believed I didn’t need this.
Gul Madred tried to diminish Picard, the Borg attempted to extinguish him entirely, and both times Picard resisted—he fought tooth and nail to remain himself, to hold onto his identity.
On Kataan, it was his choice to let go and become Kamin, become a husband and a father, become more. He embraced his return to the Enterprise, but he’s not the same person he was before Kataan.
Not deep down.
Deep down he knows that Louis’s smile is worth more than any accolade.
“What are we playing, gentlemen?” he asks.
Will and Louis have cards in their hands, the deck stacked face-down between them, and, at their elbows, cards lying face-up that seem to be paired by color and number.
“Go Fish, sir,” Will replies.
“But with poker faces,” Louis says.
As if to illustrate, both of their expressions go blank.
“I wasn’t aware a poker face is such a crucial part of Go Fish strategy,” Picard remarks.
“In this version it is,” Will explains. “In this version, when someone asks you for a card, you’re allowed to lie and say you don’t have it even if you do—but if your poker face isn’t good enough and they catch you, you have to reveal 3 of the cards in your hand.”
“That’s quite the motivation to tell the truth.”
“Or to have a very good poker face.” Will tilts his head towards Louis. “His isn’t too bad. He just needs some practice.”
“C'est ce que tu penses,” Louis murmurs, smirking at the cards in his hand.
That’s what you think.
Picard chooses not to translate that and instead asks, “Are you ready to go?”
Louis nods. To Will, he says, “Can I use your bathroom?”
“Of course.”
Louis lays his cards down and trots deeper into Will’s quarters. Will starts to stand, catches sight of Louis’s hand, and frowns. “For how long have you had that king?” he calls.
“Since the beginning!” Louis calls back.
Will chuckles and shakes his head. “I guess his poker face is better than I thought. I asked him for that king twice.”
“I suspect you have only yourself to blame for that,” Picard says dryly. “Or rather, your other self.”
Will grins. “That reminds me, sir. Have you considered my invitation?”
The poker game on Friday evening, the day before they’re scheduled to arrive at Earth.
Picard sighs. “I have, Number One. If it still stands—and if you’re certain it’s appropriate—we’ll be there.”
His first instinct was to refuse, until he reasoned that it would be a good distraction, a nice way to relax before reporting to Starfleet Command.
(A brief foray out of his comfort zone, for Louis’s sake.)
“I’ll make sure everyone’s on their best behavior,” Will promises. He glances to his left, then steps closer, and in a low voice, asks, “Did you get my message?”
“I did, and I must apologize—I didn’t see it until only a few minutes ago.”
“It’s alright, sir. If it had been an emergency, I would have paged you directly. I just wanted you to know what happened.”
“What did happen, exactly?”
“Well, he caught a fish” –Will stated he was taking Louis fishing when Picard dropped him off; he’s still in the flannel shirt and khaki trousers he donned for the occasion—“and when we got the fish out of the water…I don’t know, I think seeing it that way, knowing it’s dying…sometimes that’s hard for a little kid.”
There’s a crease between Will’s brows, tension in his posture. He’s worried about Louis, Picard guesses, but also worried how Picard might judge him.
“Commander,” Picard says, sternly but quietly. “I want to make it clear that I trust you.”
“Sir?”
“With Louis, I mean. What happened today in no way diminishes that trust.”
Will couldn’t have predicted that the sight of a dying fish would upset Louis. Picard would not have anticipated it either.
“Thank you, sir,” Will says. “I’m still happy to watch him whenever you need me to.”
“I appreciate your help, Number One.”
Appreciate is not nearly a strong enough word. That Louis felt safe enough with Will to stay with him speaks volumes. Picard must allow that relationship to grow—even if it means that he must also cultivate a more personal relationship with Will, daunting as it is to cross a line he hasn’t crossed as a commanding officer since Jack Crusher.
When Louis returns from the bathroom, they say their goodbyes and then Picard ushers him into the corridor—where they run directly in Deanna.
She’s clearly surprised to see them, but she masks it quickly with a smile. “Hello again.”
“Hello,” Louis replies cheerfully.
Will pokes his head into the hallway. “You’re here early.”
“I thought you might want some help preparing dinner,” Deanna says, tone stunningly neutral.
Will grins. “You don’t trust me to pick what we’re eating, do you?”
“No.” It’s succinct, matter-of-fact, and somehow not impolite.
Louis looks back and forth between them. “You’re friends?” he asks.
“Yes, friends,” Deanna and Will answer simultaneously, their voices in perfect sync.
Louis’s gaze flick back and forth one more time, taking in Will’s carefully blank expression, Deanna’s casual attire and her hair, which seems different than usual though Picard can’t pinpoint how. The boy’s eyes narrow, and Picard knows precisely what’s coming and clears his throat loudly before they’re all plunged into a very awkward situation.
“Well, have a good evening you two,” he declares, giving Louis a pointed nudge in the direction of the Turbolift.
In their quarters, they both change for dinner, Picard out of his unfirm and Louis into something not grass-stained, but when Picard moves for the door, Louis lingers near their dining table.
“Can we eat in our quarters tonight?” he asks.
His voice is small, hesitant, as if nervous about making such a request. Perhaps they rushed him into some things. Perhaps Picard should have followed Beverly and Deanna’s advice and taken more time off, eased him into the crew’s company more carefully, more slowly.
Internally, he decides that tomorrow he’ll take another personal day. Outwardly, he smiles gently, and says, “Today was a very long day. I would also prefer some peace and quiet this evening.”
Louis leans into him, head bowed and tucked against Picard’s side. It’s not quite a hug, more of a…request. Picard puts an arm around his shoulder, runs his other hand through Louis’s hair.
“You know what else I would enjoy tonight?”
“Non,” Louis murmurs, waits, his eyes half-closed.
“Your great-grandmother’s cassoulet.”
As if it heard him, Louis’s stomach growls.

due to a current boycott of Paramount and Paramount+ I'm watching this from a pirate cove and I'd encourage you to do the same and without further ado live blogging of Star Trek Discovery and as always 🌟SPOILERS🌟
Season 5 Episode 8
I got a prediction that Moll is going to kill the Primarch which would suck because I'm liking Ruhn as a villain
Well this Breen Asrisar seems respectful
I'm liking the Breen as main antagonists I wasn't sure before but they are being presented in a very interesting way
Why did the Breen lieutenant Asrisar sound like Booker for a second hold up
Oh she's spilling the primordial beans so to speak to the Breen
"Of course that's what we all want" says the Primarch Ruhn who clearly doesn't want that
I like the Breen looking around like did you just hear that
That looks like the Kataan Probe
Damn how is are yall this unprepared for the badlands they are called the badlands for Q sake
Okay there's Booker he's not on Breen ship undercover I was convinced for a second
The archive has cool background alien one of which I can almost identify but can't
The head archivist lady is Efrosian which is cool
"A book vist me in the library" ok that made me laugh but that's because I find terrible puns funny
Ok the Kwejian scene was heart warming
OMG Michael
She was laid out like a murder victim in a Murder Mystery after the lights flicker on and off
What is Booker doing dressed like that I'm thinking a prophets like faces of people you know talking to you think from a mysterious thing she touched
I like fake sassy Booker
Ok Primarch Ruhn isn't very smart I thought because the archive has dealing with the Breen the Ruhn would have a little more patience and the archive would be a little more chill but the archive means business I see
It keeps cutting to Lieutenant Asrisar why do I feel like something important is about to happen
Is the archive even bigger then the Breen Dreadnought this is the season of huge things
How is 32nd century Discovery doing so terribly in the badlands even 23rd century ships were able to handle the badlands
Damn this is a heavy scene Sonequa Martin-Green Is a really good actor and Burnham is such a great character
Ruhn isn't making good decisions
Well their goes Primarch Ruhn a fun but scary villain
There is no way Moll is going to lead this group of Breen like some sort of chosen one type stuff
Damn the Breen being lead by human
A pretty somber episode with really good parts this season has been really enjoyable

Wake me up before you boldly go go: Dreams in Star Trek
By Ames
Tumblr media
I’m feeling pretty tired at the moment, specifically tired of dream sequences in various media. They’re a fairly overused trope: seeing some slightly off scenes that either teach our protagonists something they need to know or just toy with the audience to make them believe something is real. Until the characters wake up. Even Star Trek, a show allegedly bounded by science, falls victim to the lazy writing and overused device of the dream episode.
That’s not to say there aren’t some good dream episodes out there, and even in here. So this week A Star to Steer Her By is analyzing some dreams, some nightmares, anything that we might find in the subconscious and wonder if it means anything (even if it’s just to the plot). So get tucked in, snuggle up with Kukalaka, and drift out of consciousness below and/or on this week’s podcast episode (discussion starts at 1:15:29). Let’s see if all of this was just a dream.
Somehow, we couldn’t think of any episodes from The Original Series or The Animated Series that had dream sequences, which is a little funny since you’d think the campier and arguably less cerebral shows would have some true nightmares. But we’re starting off with a whole slew of episodes from The Next Generation instead.
Tumblr media
“Shades of Grey”
Coma dreams are their own subsection of dream episodes, but definitely worth including in our list because they present some interesting examples of storytelling and structure. And then there’s “Shades of Grey.” As far as clipshows go, it’s got an okay wrapper in the form of some Riker dream manipulation, but it has too much going against it to be any good overall.
Tumblr media
“Night Terrors”
Mention episodes that aren’t any good and “Night Terrors” will arise from your subconscious. As far as dream plots go, it’s actually got a decent concept in depriving everyone but Troi of REM sleep, so there are some really surreal (if disjointed) scenes, but watching what they put Marina Sirtis through proved to be the real nightmare.
Tumblr media
“Violations”
This one’s probably in that grey area between visions and coma dreams, but worth mentioning just to bring up what a messed up thing that bastard Jev does to people – putting skewed, traumatic memories in their heads that leaves them in comas. Like in “Night Terrors,” it’s got some really upsetting scenework and direction that leaves you feeling appropriately disturbed.
Tumblr media
“The Inner Light”
One of the best episodes of all of Star Trek is effectively a coma dream that Picard has in which he lives the life of Kamin in the twenty or so minutes that he’s knocked out by the Kataan probe. Talk about great use of the dream structure! We don’t need to deal with surreal nonsense because of the programming, and the effects on Jean-Luc are personal and emotional.
Tumblr media
“Tapestry”
This one is debatable based on your interpretation. On the podcast, Jake likes to spread the possibility that none of this episode happened at all and it was all a dream Picard had while on Dr. Crusher’s surgical table. Which is an interesting way to think about this genuinely thought-provoking episode, although we enjoy the other view that Q’s behind it all as well.
Tumblr media
“Birthright”
After a certain visiting doctor zaps him in the face, Data is able to unlock his dreaming program that daddy Soong had left for him as a little present. And it’s all pretty on-the-nose kinda stuff that dream episodes can be guilty of. Every little action is meaningful in some way that is just utterly unrealistic, but Data’s also an android, so realism may already be out of the question.
Tumblr media
“Frame of Mind”
I’d say “Frame of Mind” might be our first real example of a good traditional dream episode. It’s not just a story told in a dream or a technique for the writers to convey something without stating it. This Riker mind adventure is meant to be a disorienting experience specifically because it’s all in his head. There was method to this madness and it paid off in spades!
Tumblr media
“Phantasms”
This infamous episode is the reason why I wanted to do this post. “Phantasms” commits pretty much every sin a dream sequence can commit: it mainly uses characters from the episode in absurd roles, the dream makes too much sense in world because everything in it correlates to something from real life, and its randomness and surrealness just come across as a formulaic writing device. With mint frosting.
Tumblr media
“Dark Page”
Literally on the heels of “Phantasms” is what I’d call a more interesting and effective use of the dream, in this case the coma dream that Deanna visits inside Lwaxana’s head. The symbolism isn’t as overt and at the same time there’s more emotional connection with the scenelettes. I also give it a pass because Betazoid mind powers help this one from feeling too heavy handed.
Tumblr media
First Contact
Somehow, we don’t see a guilt-driven dream sequence in Star Trek until First Contact, and it’s just a pretty typical but effective little scene to inform the audience of Picard’s mindset and a little bit of backstory that you might need to understand the movie. Is it the most original way to convey this information? No, but it’s not a terrible offense either and it does its job well.
Tumblr media
“Distant Voices”
One of our least favorite episodes of all of Deep Space Nine was all just a ridiculous coma dream in Bashir’s head. If this one isn’t the worst dream episode of Trek, I don’t know what is. Like “Phantasms,” it’s got every element of the dream symbolizing something and some very tiring tropey motifs. And I haven’t even gotten to the confounding acting decisions!
Tumblr media
“Hard Time”
While Picard got to experience a life’s worth of touching memories in “The Inner Light,” O’Brien gets to experience a life’s worth of suffering in “Hard Time.” It may have only been a couple of hours in real time, but the dream that he sustains has huge impacts on his character and makes for a really thought-provoking and riveting episode.
Tumblr media
“Body Parts”
When he’s destined to die to relinquish his desiccated remains to Brunt, Quark at one point has one of those trauma dreams that is a writer’s shorthand for “this is what my character is preoccupied with!” In this case, he dreams of the first Nagus Gint advising him to break the contract because someone needed to propel the plot forward, I guess.
Tumblr media
“Business as Usual”
If “Body Parts” was a little obvious, then the dream in “Business as Usual” is downright heavy handed. Quark is feeling guilty about selling weapons on the black market, and if you weren’t sure he had a conscience, this dream sequence underlines it for you. Normally, I’d poopoo a scene like this, but O’Brien yelling “You killed my baby!” really sells it.
Tumblr media
“Far Beyond the Stars”
Coma dream or prophet vision? I don’t feel like arguing for the Benny Russell  story coming from some supernatural meddling versus from Sisko’s dreams, and it’s such a good episode that it’s worth bringing up anyway. And if we’re counting external meddling like in “The Inner Light” and “Hard Time,” then who am I not to include another really great episode that’s all in your head?
Tumblr media
“Extreme Measures”
Similarly, I guess if I include “Dark Page” and “Distant Voices,” then I have to include “Extreme Measures,” though in a perfect world, I wouldn’t give it the satisfaction because it’s a really upsetting and invasive episode that turns Bashir into some kind of brain-robbing monster. And frankly, the inside of Sloan’s mind didn’t even end up being all that interesting!
Tumblr media
“Jetrel”
Update 1/28/24: Oh no, we forgot one (or two, or probably more because dammit)! And it’s yet another of our favorite “this character is feeling conflicted about X” plot devices because writers think the audience is incapable of picking up on subtext! This time, Neelix’s history is dredged back up when Jetrel, the creator of the Metreon Cascade” pops by, and for some reason we need to see that Neelix is still having survivor’s guilt through traumatic dream vision.
Tumblr media
“The Thaw”
Lotta coma dreams on this list so far, and our first taste from Voyager is the stuff of nightmares, literally. Fear the Clown takes what should be a paradisiacal shared dream for our friends in their cryopods and turns it into a horror movie and you could wake up dead. This one gets points for creativity, and points off for giving us all coulrophobia.
Tumblr media
“Remember”
We really liked this one when we covered it in season three, even if it’s some more familiar ground. Reliving another culture through implanted dreams? Sure, it’s yet another instance where we can make parallels to something like “The Inner Light,” but it’s forgivable since this episode is so successful at communicating the Enarans’ story in Torres’s dreams.
Tumblr media
“Coda”
I’d probably qualify whatever is going on with Janeway throughout this episode as something like the coma dreams we’ve discussed previously. It’s all alien interference, as happens sometimes, and winds up being like one of those episodes that pulls back the curtain and tricks you because it was fake all along, leaving the viewer ultimately unsatisfied.
Tumblr media
“Waking Moments”
More alien intervention, this time into a world where the new species lives and communicates through dreams. Suspend your disbelief for a moment and accept that, difficult as it may be, and we actually do get some pretty original and believable dream sequences. The ones we see don’t try to go too far and mainly seem kinda right for the characters, so this one passes.
Tumblr media
“The Fight”
But this one just fails utterly. We discussed in our recent season wrap episode how “The Fight” just seems like a chaotic mess and yet at the same time doesn’t capitalize on the Chaotic Space aliens in a way that is fulfilling. So we’re left with dream sequences that end up just feeling tired and confusing and maybe a little bit boring. Someone bet on the wrong fighter in this ring.
Tumblr media
“One”
While most of what Seven experiences in “One” is all delusion and hallucination, she does have a legitimate dream of being in an Arctic wasteland at one point. And sure, it’s there to convey that she’s feeling alone and desolate and way out of her depth like a pretty standard dream metaphor, but the little sequence does its job. The CGI on the other hand…
Tumblr media
“Barge of the Dead”
Like with “Coda,” I’d qualify all of this episode as a coma dream, though instead of being induced by aliens, we’re led to believe that all of this is just some Klingon afterlife nonsense. Setting aside that everyone assumes Gre’thor is real now, the dreams we get of Torres’s personal hell – just people on the Voyager? – are half baked and entirely out of character.
Tumblr media
“Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy”
These are more daydreams than subconscious dreams, though the EMH’s program does get out of hand enough that I’d count this episode among the others in this post. The scenes we get are mostly meant to be comic relief so we can giggle at the EMH’s grandiose fantasies, except that some of them are fairly cringey, as usual at Seven’s expense.
Tumblr media
“Memorial”
Memory or dream? That’s the question this episode poses in creating an actually pretty intriguing look at how and why we remember history. The dream sequences we get from Paris and Chakotay are very effective at blurring that line between the real and the surreal, and the more we understand that these were real events, the more we treat them with significance.
Tumblr media
“Ashes to Ashes”
Update 1/28/24: Whoops, another I’d forgotten until we continued our Voyager watchthrough. It’s a small one, but Lyndsay Ballard’s dream sequence when she returns from the dead and back to the Voyager crew fit the old “show the audience the character is feeling conflicted” trope. She guilt-dreams that her friends are throwing her another funeral because she’s not acclimating back to life as a human. The scene does what it’s made to; it’s just entirely redundant.
Tumblr media
“Shuttlepod One”
Let’s move on to Enterprise, starting with a pretty mean trick that dream sequences can do to an audience: manipulating you for a couple minutes into thinking that our heroes have been rescued and everything’s okay, until the rug gets pulled out from under you and it was all just a dream. The scene also leans on another trend we’ll see in Enterprise – objectifying T’Pol all the damn time.
Tumblr media
“Fusion”
But the winner of the “objectifying T’Pol all the damn time” award is very obviously “Fusion.” Boy, what an upsetting episode. If you thought it was gross what Jev did to Troi and the others in “Violations,” then “Fusion” should have you gagging, and it all starts with a super gross dream sequence in which Tolaris creeps on T’Pol, and things get ickier from there.
Tumblr media
“A Night in Sickbay”
Update 1/28/24: How could we forget yet another time that one of the characters had a wetdream about T’Pol? This time, it’s Archer because Phlox has put it in the cap’n’s head that he’s actually in love with the subcommander like a creep. The nightmare sequence also features another guilt-ridden message (a dream staple!) in which Archer is feeling so bad Porthos is sick that he dreams up a puppy funeral. Ugh.
Tumblr media
“Vanishing Point”
Just when you think you’ve watched an interesting transporter accident episode that actually gives Hoshi something to do, this episode laughs in your face and pulls the “it was a dream the whole time” trick on you. The whole thing comes across as just kind of cruel and cop-out-y, though I’m kinda shocked there aren’t many other Trek episodes that consciously pull this stunt.
Tumblr media
“Choose Your Pain”
Updated 12/12/24: If you’ve read this far, look! I added this Discovery episode I forgot about! And it’s our most heavy-handed example in a little while. It’s yet another “this character is feeling guilty and we need to show the audience how guilty they feel” example. I am so tired of this trope that I could scream... almost as much as Burnham does in her dream when she takes the place of the tortured tardigrade!
Tumblr media
“Remembrance”
Say what you will about Picard season one (and we did!), but the dream sequences of Jean-Luc obsessing over the loss of Data are very effective at eliciting an emotional response. They’re just strange enough to provide that surreal quality of dreams but not just tedious nonsense like other episodes have given us. And the scenes are just so touching that it’s hard to fault them.
Tumblr media
“The Impossible Box”
Okay, last one I could find. Soji has these recurring trauma-fueled dreams and she can’t tell if it’s a dream or a memory. This whole episode is an identity crisis waiting to happen, and when she sees herself as a wooden puppet being constructed, it all comes together that she isn’t a real girl, and you know what, it’s both one of the better uses of dreams and one of the better moments in Picard!
Wake up! You’re going to be late for school and you didn’t study for that test and you’re naked and your teeth are falling out and Troi’s a cake and won’t somebody answer the phone?!
Put a pot of coffee on and stay with us for more dreamy blogposts. You can also share that caffeinated brew with our fearless Voyager captain as we continue through our full watchthrough on SoundCloud or wherever you listen to podcasts, respond to our wake up call on Facebook and Twitter, and have pleasant dreams!

Ensign JULIETTE MARIE MARCHAND was an orphan raised on a small research and agricultural colony. She soon discovered her interest in, and talent for, exogeology and exobotany, and set her sights on joining Starfleet Academy.
Upon her graduation, she got assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise-D to further her work, studying under Keiko O’Brien.
During the encounter with, and subsequent analysis of, the Ressikan probe from Kataan, she got hit with a nucleonic beam and found herself waking up as Meribor, completely taken aback by how everyone was calling Captain Picard Kamin and why he was suddenly acting as her adoring father.
She lived a whole life— childhood, adulthood, parenthood— on Kataan, only to return to herself on Enterprise under the care of Dr. Selar.
Juliette takes the loss hard, grieving the family she finally had and the community she felt embraced by, her only reminders being Eline’s Ressikan necklace left in the probe that she constantly wears, and the Captain.
Both Deanna and Beverly, as counselor and chief medical officer, feel it would be beneficial for the two to spend more time together. Jean-Luc and Juliette feel drawn to each other, both remembering what it was like to be father and daughter and bonding over being the only two chosen to share the Ressikan culture with the world. The bridge crew takes it upon themselves to help them and support them through this, and Juliette finds herself getting that sense of family back.
She is very similar to Meribor in that she is gentle, kind, and intelligent, if a bit overly pragmatic.
Though she at first feels awkward with her newfound situation, she eventually changes her name to Picard.
