'Mortals have the mistaken belief that they move into the future,' he explains. 'That is not true at all. The future moves into you. That is how manifesting works. There are an infinite number of futures and possibilities out there for you. Time passes through you, it moves past you. You stay still. Whatever energy you put forward is what will align with a future with that same energy, and that is the future you will attract.'

As someone with a mask kink and an unhealthy love for the grim reaper, THIS FUCKING BOOK
The only thing I remembered about the book was that it was about Finnish mythology and then someone got a blowjob from a mermaid and I was like WAIT is this spicy??? And then it turns out it was 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
And Death is just 🥵😫👌 I'm listening to it on audible and the narrator is good, but I think because there are some Finnish words, I would have preferred to read it. But I have demolished it in the last few days so it's not bad in any way 😆 I have one and a half hour left so no spoilers please!

• Review: Blood Orange + Black Rose •
If you often find yourself reading vampire books and wishing for something a little bit darker, then Karina Halle’s Dracula Duet is for you.
A cleverly reimagined Dracula, the story is centered on Valtu Aminoff, the vampire who inspired Bram Stoker – and whose story was wildly fictionalized in the infamous vampire book.
In Blood Orange, Dahlia – a witch who is a vampire slayer – is sent to Venice to pose as a graduate student, get close to Valtu, and get rid of him. But she begins to have vivid nightmares where women who look like her die in horrible ways, and she feels an undeniable pull to Valtu.
And their story is a five-alarm fire situation. These books are *spicy* – I mean, there’s a place called the Red Room in it , so! – and Valtu has very particular tastes, if you get what I mean. So definitely check the tw before diving in, especially if you’re new to dark romance.
It’s hard to talk about the rest of the story without giving massive spoilers, but know that when the plot of Blood Orange kicked back in (it, uh, takes a pretty massive backseat to all the *ahem* for a while), the ending left me absolutely gobsmacked. And then Black Rose is basically just a whole lot of erotic angst – which, from me, is a compliment.
That said, I do think Blood Orange is a stronger book than Black Rose, but there are a few unresolved plot points, perhaps signaling a spin-off? I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Blood Orange: 4🌟 | 3.75🌶️
Black Rose: 3.5🌟 | 3.75🌶️

Was I just sleepwalking in my life? Just aimlessly checking off the boxes, making sure I had everything that life expected of me without any real thoughts of what I truly wanted?

The Read-Cap: Week of July 6, 2024
Discussing all the #books I read this last week over on my blog and what I'm planning on reading next.
This week ended up being mermaid themed. I finished reading Ocean of Sin and Starlight before going on to read The Shepherd King duology. It seemed like a great next choice plus the artwork for these books drew me in. If you are new to the Read-Cap this a weekly post I’m doing where I share what I’ve been reading in the last week and what I plan on reading next. If I finish a book and decide not…
