In "Cerebration" (2018) at 86 St (N) station in Brooklyn, Karen Margolis visualizes commuters’ thoughts as circular clusters of color, at times bursting like an internal display of fireworks. The artist drew upon her background in psychology and microscopy as well as her imagination to create this motif, then she combined the abstract forms with details from local area maps in a celebration of place. The colors flow abstractly from one glass mosaic panel to the next, connecting a narrative of thoughts and memories of travelers.
Margolis also incorporated transit maps and vibrant color into her artwork for the Moynihan Train Hall Metropolitan Lounge commissioned by Art at Amtrak, on view through Spring 2024.

Dianne Margolis BA (hons), JP is so iconic for [spoilers tmagp episode 7]...
...responding to an uncanny Incident in which she was nearly shot, suffocated and burned alive by quitting her job by means of a Sternly Worded Letter. I like the way we can easily imagine her. A redoubtable middle-class lady of a certain age who uses her considerable spare energy for volunteering (JP is Justice of the Peace, a trained volunteer position for dealing with minor legal offences in the English system). Genuinely does good in the world but won't let anyone forget it or the respect due to her. Ironically, the sort of person you might expect to be a Karen, so it's a twist that her outrage is entirely legitimate and if anything rather understated. Issuing an extremely formal complaint and ultimatum is the correct way for a well-brought-up British person to react to trauma. In general this case is splendidly atmospheric of a shabby British charity shop milieu and the sort of person who holds that together. The Oxford People's Trust doesn't actually exist but it sounds like it could, as could the Hilltop Centre (yes I know this is a Meaningful Name but also us Brits are even less imaginative with our placenames than Jonathan Sims, there are loads of Hilltop places). Otherwise - making a Doylist connection between case and events, is the "organisation or individuals" which hired the security firm that rescued Dianne Margolis BA (hons) JP the same as whoever paid Lena to murder Klaus? There's a lot of paying for people to do things in this episode, and it seems possible both were payments for a cover-up.

Karen Margolis’ “Cerebration” (2018) at 86 St (N) station in #Brooklyn visualizes thought patterns in circular clusters of color  ̶  at times bursting like fireworks. Fabricated by @mvmstudiosmx, colors within the mosaic artwork flow abstractly from one panel to the next, connecting a narrative of travelers’ thoughts and memories.
A paper-based piece by Margolis’ is currently on view in the @among_friends_show, alongside fellow #MTAarts artists @maureen_mcquillan, @danhzeller, @lindaganjian, @triciawrightart & @peterdrakeart, a group show organized by Alexandra Rutsch Brock, Beth Dary and Patricia Fabricant, at @equitygallery. “Among Friends” takes its inspiration from #RobertRauschenberg’s “Hiccups” (1978), wherein Rauschenberg zipped together ninety-seven sheets of handmade paper each with an unique composition, and “reflects and responds to the strength and illumination we find through art, friendship and community.” Let’s all celebrate being back #AmongFriends! On view through May 22.
