A cleric who accidentally multi-classed as a bard (they had a short phase where they were obsessed with learning how to play instruments) but they don't know that they have a level in bard.

One day the cleric got exceptionally annoyed at some guy who just wouldn't stop pestering them and threw an insult at the guy in an attempt to get him to leave, it triggered vicious mockery and the guy just dropped dead on the spot.

The cleric not knowing about their level in bard just assumes that the god they worship also got annoyed with the guy and stroke him down with their divine powers.

A warlock whose patron is their pet cat. The warlock has no idea that their cat is their patron though so they just think they suddenly got magical powers after they adopted the cat

The cat really is just a normal cat though but when the warlock picked it up on the streets it just went "yeah I like this one" and bam. A warlock who thinks they're a sorcerer who just awakened their abilities late was born

a slime who takes by default has the form of a perfect imitation of a human but, due to slimes having no genders, also has no gender in human form (no genital no nothing) but because their human form looks (insert gender here) they constantly try to find elaborate ways to convince people that they are in fact (insert opposite gender of what the slime in human form looks like) purely out of spite

that or simply telling people that the slime has about as much of a gender as a rock

shapeshifter that forgets exactly what they looked like originally sometimes so they have to go through all the pictures they have of themselves/find someone who knows what they looked like and get them to describe their appearance in an attempt to change back to their original form, or just goes with trial by fire and goes with what they think is their original form (but that method always end up with a form that not quite it)

my first posted character idea ig

a young dragon who is really bad at polymorphing trying to pass off as a simple Dragonborn but it always has dragon (physical) features that the Dragonborn don't have or features from completely different races, but is really good at convincing others that those features are just it "cosplaying" as a famous person of those races or that it put on those non-dragonborn features because the dragon thought it looked cool
