It's Pokemon Day! And to commemorate such, here's an Octransfur comm from a few months back by @CalliEcho! Back in October, they were running a very fun event for their Pokemon TF TCG series, with a theme for each day of the month. I was fortunate enough to snag one of my favorite Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet during this, the formidable Tinkaton! Take this as a lesson, all - if you find strange weapons lying in fairy circles or embedded in rocks laying about your local woods - either brace yourself for something weird or just turn the other way.

From the New Year Special that aired today (January 5). Pics from an upcoming episode. Given how the monthly calendar for January featured Dot, it might be from an episode airing this month?

Dot is wearing a backpack (first time she is seen with one!) and has a shopping bag, so I wonder if she went shopping with everyone else. That would be a first too. She meets a Kanuchan (potentially will end up being her second partner?).

and okay. i know i posted about this scene earlier yelling about how liko and dot need to get married already. but i do actually have some more grounded things to say about it, lol. you knew i had to make at least ONE likodot themed post in response to this episode... who would i be if i didn't smh

first of all, as always, i love to see the relationship dot has with kanuchan. i think most people's first impression would be like liko's first impression, that dot was simply struggling with her, but as her confidence grows in general, so too does her confidence in handling kanuchan. i think it's also meaningful here that she recognizes kanuchan would be perfect for picking out a good griddle (and is so affectionate about it too, they're so sweet oh my god), considering that they initially bonded over dot understanding her fixation behavior with iron like no one else.

and, moving onto the topic of liko and dot's dynamic... i think it's interesting that liko notices dot being good with kanuchan like this, specifically because liko had a similar running theme with mibrim in the past. she values her own ability to be compassionate with these small and timid pokemon (though kanuchan is much more chaotic and timid in her own separate way lol) and she is recognizing that quality in dot, and therefore also pointing it out to the audience, that dot has the ability to be compassionate and caring for pokemon as well. it brings to mind the interview with dot's VA where she talks about not wanting dot to come off like a nasty person - she really isn't!

it's also nice to see liko recognizing positive qualities in dot that aren't the things that make her cool. like liko has always been dot's #1 believer when it comes to her battle skills and intelligence, but here she is recognizing dot's capability to be tender and thoughtful, and i think that's important. dot has grown so much and now this loops back around to liko updating her viewpoint on dot.

and if you'll allow me some pure shipping thoughts... GRAHHH liko's voice acting is so soft here while she thinks of dot, i can't take it?? the way she says dot's name... THE FACE SHE MAKES... and when the camera pans back out you can even see that she's making a face no one else is making. this is liko's reaction and liko's reaction alone. frankly i think the writers are shipping this shit with me because they didn't have to put this scene here but they did. i'm eating my phone

Kanuchan getto daze! By Dot! That was such a nice ep for her, really. And I really like how Dot was the main character of this ep.

Next week, Aaaah Nyahojaaaaa it's ok accidenta happen don't feel bad about injuring Liko ;v;

How is it 60+ episodes into Horizons and some of the Pokemon in the party don’t know better in certain situations? Terapagos has obviously wandered off repeatedly despite it causing stress to its caretakers and putting it in some pretty precarious situations(and also the fact that it is chronologically the oldest in the party and has been dealt with by Lucius prior to getting reawakened but somehow not retaining any common sense he might have instilled into it), Hogator wandered off when trying to get firewood in very cold weather, Kanuchan has yet to show self-restraint towards anything slightly metallic, and even Nyarote has made noise when Liko was clearly trying to get a picture of some rare birds and was actively shushing her. Pokemon are supposed to be at least somewhat comparable to humans in sapience, as well, so it can’t be excused by not having the mental faculties to control their own actions.

Terapagos seems to be something of an eternally curious child.

Hogator is basically treated very much as like a 4 or 5 year old at current.

Kanuchan is literally the baby form of that species and the point is it has OCD to forge things.

Nyarote is basically an attention seeking child.

A lot of this is while they might have sapience, they seems to be keyed as having the mental faculties of a child.

Most of this has to deal with how the writers are keying the mon's mental development to younger children or siblings of the cast.

It was great seeing Kanuchan get focus again! I loved her quest to get her metal back and her determation to save Dot and Warukamo.

I was currious how the hammer evolution would go since her debut and I really like the idea of Kanuchan having to build it first was a cool idea! ( Gamefreak give us a mystery gift of Dot's Tinkatink like you did with the trios starters please!!!! : [ )

I look forward to seeing her more in the future ( espically more cute little brother and sister momment with Warukamo )

and Bombirdier is so on my least fav mon list after this episode >:(

This episode heavily teased that Ryme is going to be Roy's opponent for the implementation test in the Terastal course. They both love singing, and she is specialized in Ghost types (and Hogator's final evolution stage is Fire and Ghost). Hogator will probably evolve during their battle, too.

Not counting Ryme, there will be four Gym Leaders left to show. Liko and Dot will have to face one each. Not sure which ones could be set up as opponents for them, but I feel like the order for the implementation tests will be different this time around (I feel like Liko could be the last one to take her test, she was the first one to face her opponent for the basics test so her being last would close off this arc). Though, after the trio faces their respective Gym Leaders, there will still be two ones left. I wonder if they'll just showcase their characters in other ways, or if we'll see them battle other opponents? Sango and Onyx are taking the Terastal course too, so they could fill these slots (and it could also be a way to show their characters to get to know them better).

Seeing Dot's interactions with her Pokemon in HZ058 got me thinking about the way Dot shows her affection towards her Pokemon in comparison to the way Liko does.

Dot is often seen patting Kanuchan's head, she did it in HZ058 and just does it pretty much every time Kanuchan is onscreen (like in HZ043 when she congratulated Kanuchan for getting food for Kuwassu, or in HZ051 when Kanuchan came by her side she was working on her report). Which is sweet, because Kanuchan is the Pokemon who brings out Dot's caring side and shows that she has the capacity to be like that. Dot loves Kuwassu too but their relationship as trainer and Pokemon is a bit different than with Kanuchan. But even with Kuwassu, Dot casually pat him in HZ058, so it still happens sometimes.

With Liko though, I feel like she expresses her affection a bit differently. She was often carrying Nyahoja back in the first two chapters (which Dot does with her Pokemon too, and even Roy), but when it came to hugs or the likes, it feels like it mostly happened in specific scenes and not much in casual ones? Like, Liko hugging Nyahoja in relief after finding her in HZ003, or their hug after they reconciled in HZ040 (Liko hugged Nyahoja and patted her on the head in HZ040 after she saved Mibrim and Terapagos too). Nyarote hugged Liko after evolving in HZ045 because she could finally show her affection to Liko in another way. And they both held hands when watching the flower pillar in HZ051. So there were occasional hugs in specific moments. With Mibrim, Liko always let her stay in her hood because she felt at ease there and that was their shared show of affection (the comfortable sense of proximity, etc).

Anyway, it's interesting because at first glance you'd think Liko would be the type to pat her Pokemon more and that maybe Dot wouldn't be, but it's more of the opposite in this case. Dot patting her Pokemon (especially Kanuchan) happens a lot in casual scenes. I think Liko's show of affection fits her Pokemon's personalities (Nyarote tends to be picky, and Mibrim was the type to get overwhelmed easily so Liko had to be careful about that etc).
