A view from my hometown (my mom lives just off to the left side of this picture frame) at the intersection of I-70 & Wanamaker Road, camera view looking southwest. There were times growing up here that I can remember winter storms that closed the interstate from this point west all the way to east Denver. There are gates on some of the interstate entrances and exits to prevent people from traveling, reminding them that "No, you can't drive in this weather, so don't try." (Amazing how many people would actually try. )

As of Thursday evening, 4-6" of snow already on the ground from a previous storm last week, and rain/sleet/freezing rain coming down to coat that leftover precip.

If you live in Oklahoma and Kansas or know people who do, please be cautious with the weather today.

Have an emergency plan in place. Crate your animals and put them in a safe room or basement before the storm hits. Don't go out unless you absolutely have to. If you don't own a weather radio, Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube is a good resource and always lists streets, businesses, and landmarks that a tornado is close to. If you live on the upper floors of an apartment building, go meet your first floor neighbors and ask if you can shelter with them in a worst case scenario. (Offer them a meal/drink as thanks.) If you live in a mobile home, pack a go bag and look up your nearest sturdy shelter.

Even if these storms do not produce tornadoes, they will still be capable of damaging winds and large hail.

Recent storms have been dropping apple-sized hail. Two recent tornadoes swung back around to places they'd already passed. Large, dangerous tornadoes have formed on days when the forecast wasn't favorable for them.

Nothing should be ruled out with today's storms.
