After the big Kansas City win you, the boys, and your best friend all went out celebrating with the team. As you arrived at one of your favorite bars in the area you all were quick to find a table and get drinks.
As you sat talking to Luke about going to the eagles game next weekend, your friend ran over, "It's our song lets dance!"
She grabbed your hand pulling you out to the dance floor. You stood back to her dancing along to the music.
-
Luke on the other hand was sat with Mark and Ethan. He watched your every mood. Admiring the way your hips swayed on beat, how your hair fell so perfectly over your shoulders, and how you smiled the entire time.
"Bro, when are you gonna actually do something?" Ethan asked smacking Luke on the shoulder.
"What do you mean?" He said looking at them confused.
"Bro, we all see how you look at her, do something about it already," Mark said knowingly.
Luke sat silently before getting up to go get another drink.
-
"Hey," A man said from behind you turned around to see Creed Humphrey one of your brothers teammates.
"Hi, you played great today," You spoke loudly ensuring he heard you over the loud music.
"Can I buy you a drink?" He asked.
You nodded, he took your hand leading you to the bar.
"I'll get what ever is on draft and what ever she would like," Creed said to the bartender.
"I'll take a seltzer please, any flavor," You said as the bartender walked off to get get your drinks.
"So, when do you leave?" He asked getting a bit closer so you could hear him.
"Probably late tomorrow," You responded not really knowing the plan.
"So, you could come back to my place tonight?" He asked placing a hand on your waist.
You laughed before you felt a hand on your shoulder pulling you back.
"Sorry bud, she can't," Luke said interrupting your conversation, you looked up at him confused.
"You are?" Creed said in a quite rude tone.
"Luke, I'd say nice to meet you but it's really not."
The bartender came over setting your drinks down," Enjoy."
Before Creed could play Luke threw a ten on the table.
"Let's go," Luke said, placing a hand on your back leading you back to the table.
You stopped turning around to face him, "Luke what was that?"
"I didn't like that guy," He responded.
"So, you dragged me away? how did you know if I did wanna go with him or not?" You asked.
"You are not going home with him." Luke said through gritted teeth.
"Why can't I? Like you said your not my keeper," You responded a little angered at this.
"God y/n is it really not that obvious," He said as his hand ran through his hair. Something you noticed he did when he was stressed.
"what?" You asked genuinely confused at his words.
"I like you y/n, like a lot." He said meeting your eyes desperately looking for a reaction.
"Luke," You didn't know what to say. You had liked him as well but didn't know what to say. You stood there unable to speak.
"I'm sorry," He said before walking away.
Your best friend came over to you noticing your distressed look, "Hey, hey whats wrong?" She asked placing a hand on your shoulder.
"Luke he-" You stopped yourself not knowing if you could tell her.
"What did he do? Did he hurt you?" She asked.
"God no, he would never, he told me he likes me," You finally spoke the words as the impact of those words ran through your body.
"Well isn't that good?" She asked.
"I don't know, where did he go?" you asked looking around the bar.
"I think he ubered back to the hotel."
"Shit, I gotta go," You responded heading over to the boothe to grab your things.
You ran over to your brother," Hey I gotta go, I love you," You said as you hugged him.
"I love you too, Everything okay?" He asked noticing your distressed persona.
"I'm fine, promise," You smiled.
You took your phone out ordering an Uber.
You went outside and got into the car, you sat in silence figuring out what to say.
As your Uber pulled up to the hotel, you thanked the driver and ran inside and up to Luke and Eddies room.
You took a deep breathe, knocking on the door. There was no response so you knocked again.

Joey B Blurbs: Can’t Help Falling in Love
Tumblr media
————————————————————————-
Summary: You surprise Joe when he gets home from practice by putting on your wedding dress from your wedding back in March of 2022.
Warnings: Fluff
Pairing: Joe Burrow x reader
Imagine universe: Into The Mystic
A/N: Joe isn't injured.
————————————————————————-
*December 30th, 2023 - 22 weeks pregnant*
(y/n’s pov)
Joe was currently away at an early morning practice, preparing for the Chief’s game tomorrow.
The team would be getting on a plane for Kansas City tonight, and Zac called an ‘emergency’ practice this morning.
Since Joe was away, I was doing some seriously needed deep cleaning in the house.
Tyson and Miles’s room would have to be last to be cleaned since they wouldn't be up for a while.
I will never take for granted the fact that the terrible twos don't seem to be a thing to the twins. They're closer to three and have remained their happy selves.
The reason I mention this is because when they do wake up, they'll happily help me clean their room without being asked.
My heart warmed when I walked into what will be our baby girl’s nursery once she's born and old enough to be moved out of Joe and I’s room.
The walls were painted a cream color with an accent wall of vintage floral wallpaper.
Joe was the one who approached me with the idea, and I loved it.
Her name had a vintage feel, so her nursery having the same vibe was perfect.
One thing about our baby girl is that she was already 100% a daddy’s girl.
She loved it when Joe talked to my stomach, as she would kick after every sentence that left his mouth.
Joe ate every bit of it up, already taking his girl-dad role very seriously. He was so involved in my pregnancy, making sure to be there for his wife and beloved baby girl.
He just loved her so much.
My thoughts made me smile to myself as I looked around her unfurnished room and absentmindedly rubbed my bump.
Soon, I snapped out of my thoughts and remembered my cleaning.
——
After getting Joe and I’s bedroom and bathroom cleaned, it was time to move onto the closet.
I saved it for last because I knew it was going to be a doozy.
With constant packages of clothing items arriving at the house for Joe’s game-day fits, there was always a huge stack of boxes in here.
Usually, after the stack reaches a certain height, Joe would take them out to the dumpster.
Lately, though, he's fallen behind on his duties, and the stack was huge.
After clearing that out, I started going through my side of the closet, knowing Joe wouldn't exactly be happy if I moved his stuff around.
I knew I'd find some gems, doing a deep clean in my closet, but I didn't expect to find my wedding dress.
It looked just as beautiful as I remembered and it took my breath away.
Joe and I’s wedding back in March of 2022 was an absolute dream. We were so happy, nothing could sour our moods.
We looked back at our wedding photos all of the time, watching the videos of our vows being one of our favorite things.
I remembered a video I'd seen on TikTok last night of a wife putting on her wedding dress to surprise her husband, and I immediately decided to do it.
That is if the baby bump and growing boobs allow this dress to fit me.
It wouldn't necessarily be a prank or the usual trends that I've tried in him, so it would be a good change.
——
A few hours later, Tyson and Miles had been awake for a while, and we all got their room cleaned.
Joe would be home soon because he told me what time practice ended before he left this morning.
That being said, I was now upstairs trying to slip my wedding dress on.
Thankfully, the bodice part of the dress didn't quite reach my belly, so it was perfectly hidden under the skirt. I was a little surprised that my growing chest was able to stay contained under the fabric since I'd had to buy bigger bras since getting pregnant.
I didn't even attempt to try to zip the back of the dress up, though.
Moments later I could hear my phone ringing in the bedroom, and I had to practically waddle my way over there to get it.
It was Joe calling, probably telling me that he was on his way.
“Hey, Joey.” - you
“Hey, Mama. Just wanted to tell you that I'm leaving practice right now. I should be home in a bit.” - Joe
“Oh okay, how was practice?” - you
“As good as practice can be, I guess.” - Joe chuckled
I laughed along with him before he started talking again.
“How’s your day been? The boys and baby girl doing good?” - Joe
“We’re perfect. Just miss you. Princess has been a little restless today, probably wanting to talk to her daddy.” - you
“I miss you guys too, Imma be home soon. I promise to be with you till I have to leave tonight.” - Joe
“Okay. I love you, Joe. Be safe.” - you
“I will be. I love you too, so much. See you soon, my love.” - Joe
“See you soon. Bye.” - you
“Bye, baby.” - Joe hung up
Now I just have to wait.
——
I sat on the couch to the best of my ability, waiting for Joe to get home when I heard the garage door opening.
Tyson and Miles jumped off of the couch to go greet their dad, and soon I could hear that deep voice coming from the mud room.
“Where's your momma at?” - Joe
“Couch.” - Miles
A few moments later Joe’s heavy footsteps got louder and his tall frame was in my view.
His eyes lit up, and he stopped in his tracks when he saw me. Joe’s mouth dropped open into a taken-aback huge grin.
“Baby… woah. You look... woah.” - Joe
I stood up and walked closer to him, his eyes never once leaving me.
“y/n, you look so beautiful. I don't even know what to say.” - Joe
Standing on my tiptoes to place a kiss on his lips, Joe wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Where’d your bump go?” - Joe laughed
I turned to the side and flattened my hands around it, causing Joe to laugh and reach for it.
Joe rubbed over my bump for a second before pulling his hand back to take in everything.
“I’m not even gonna lie though, I will need your help taking this thing off.” - you
“Wouldn't be the first time.” - Joe smirked
“Joseph Lee!” - you playfully hit his arm
“I’m not lying though!” - Joe
——
Later, after Joe helped me out of my dress, he gave me something that he had brought home but forgot to give me because he got distracted by me in my dress.
It was some Mexican food that he had picked up pm his way home from practice since I had told him this morning that I was craving it.
Now, we were sitting on the couch together as I ate.
“Thank you for this.” - you took a bite of your chimichanga
“You’re so welcome, Mama.” - Joe kissed your cheek
A few seconds of silence went by as Joe stole a bite of my chimichanga.
“Did my wedding dress look good on me still? After having twins and currently being pregnant, I don't even want to know how different it looks on me.” - you
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Joe giving me a stank face, and I couldn't help but laugh when I turned my head to face him.
“What’s that look for?” - you laughed
“You’re fucking with me, right? Like you're joking?” - Joe
“No?” - you
“y/n. No matter how many changes your body has gone through you are as beautiful as the girl I dated in high school, all through college, and the girl I said I do to. Wanna know why?” - Joe
“Why?” - you
“Because you're the same girl you were before you had our babies. And to be completely honest with you, those changes make you even more gorgeous than before. To me, you don't have any imperfections because I love every part of your body. Those little stretch marks you complain about? They are a reminder of your body growing to accommodate your babies. Your belly getting bigger? That's home to our princess. I say all that to say this. y/n you are the most beautiful woman on this planet, and I love you so much.” - Joe
Joe wiped the tears that were dripping down my cheeks. They were happy tears time ten.
“I didn't mean to make you cry on your chimichanga.” - Joe
I laughed and leaned into his touch, savoring the feel of his skin against mine.
“They're happy tears, Joe, and thank you for the pep talk… I needed that.” - you
“I know you did, baby. Now finish your food, Imma talk to the baby.” - Joe leaned down and looked at you, asking for permission to lift your shirt
“Go ahead.” - you grinned
What would I do without him?

Jill Filipovic at Slate:
Should the very state of being pregnant place women in a subclass of citizen, vulnerable to criminal prosecution or civil penalties for behavior that would be perfectly legal from a nonpregnant person? Judging by their proposed legislation and various legal antics, the anti-abortion movement says: Yes. Pregnant women simply should not have the same rights as any other U.S. citizen. Take, for example, efforts to criminalize the crossing of state lines for abortion. There is a very, very long tradition in the U.S. of allowing people to travel out of state to access medical care, and it’s so deeply ingrained we barely think about it. Consider, for example, the businesswoman who lives in New Jersey but works in New York City and so goes to the dentist in midtown Manhattan, or the dad who lives on the Kansas side of Kansas City but takes his sick kid to a specialist at a hospital on the Missouri side. A great many Americans don’t think twice about crossing state lines for health care. Abortion opponents are trying to change that for one group of people: pregnant women.
Conservative legal groups are already drafting model legislation to prevent pregnant women from traveling for abortions by legally penalizing anyone who helps them, a strategy used by the state of Texas in one of its abortion bans, which allows anyone in the U.S. to sue those who assist women with abortions—and be rewarded with a bounty paid by the state. The architect of that Texas abortion bounty law was Jonathan Mitchell, an anti-abortion activist (and Donald Trump lawyer) who is currently representing a Texas man in his quest to probe into his ex-girlfriend’s abortion, which she allegedly sought outside of their home state. Mitchell filed a petition to learn the details of this woman’s abortion for, he says, a potential future lawsuit. But to be clear, the woman in question did absolutely nothing illegal: Traveling out of state for health care, including abortion, is not against the law in Texas or anywhere else. It’s just that Mitchell and other abortion opponents would like to change that—and are apparently happy to represent controlling (and, in another case Mitchell took on, allegedly abusive) men to do it.
They’re also happy to reclassify pregnant women as a kind of sub-citizen who, by simple virtue of their pregnancy status, are not entitled to the same legal freedoms and protections as anyone else. A Texas woman who goes to a Colorado abortion clinic is being treated differently from any nonpregnant person who travels for a medical procedure—and you can bet that this categorization of pregnant people as suspect, should they travel out of state, will lead to all sorts of investigations and abuses.
Take this hypothetical: Say the anti-abortion movement succeeds and makes it a crime to travel out of state for an abortion. Say a woman in Idaho (where abortion laws are so extreme, they have no exceptions for saving a woman’s health) travels to Washington state, where abortion is legal, and gets her hands on abortion-inducing drugs. Say she’s not pregnant. Say she takes the drugs anyway. Has she committed a crime? Or, to use a more likely legal model, say Texas makes it a crime to help a woman travel for an abortion, and a Texas woman goes to Colorado, gets abortion-inducing drugs, and takes them, despite not being pregnant. Is the friend who helped buy her plane ticket still liable? Presumably not: No pregnancy means no abortion, which means no violation of an abortion ban. But if the two women in these scenarios had been pregnant, the legal calculus would be entirely different.
Or to use a perhaps more realistic scenario: Mifepristone, an abortion-inducing drug, is also commonly used to treat Cushing’s syndrome, and researchers say it has tremendous potential to treat other illnesses, too, from various cancers to PTSD. Under an anti-abortion legal scheme, if a Texas woman with Cushing’s syndrome travels out of state, gets mifepristone, and takes it, she (or those who help her) would face potential legal consequences only if she’s pregnant. It’s her status as a pregnant woman—not the act of traveling or even taking an abortion-inducing drug—that is the problem. And generally, the law frowns on making a person’s status—rather than their actions—the basis of a crime or a lawsuit. That’s part of treating all people equally under the law, and offering all people the equal protection of it.
Preventing pregnant women from crossing into a state for a legal medical procedure isn’t the only way in which the anti-abortion movement is attempting to curtail basic rights and protections for anyone carrying a pregnancy. Earlier this year, abortion opponents argued before the Supreme Court that pregnant patients should be treated differently than nonpregnant ones in cases of serious medical emergencies—that doctors and other health workers should be permitted to give pregnant women a substandard level of care, and to essentially refuse to appropriately stabilize them. If a woman comes in and is very ill, she’s entitled to one standard of care; if she comes in and is very ill and pregnant, that standard of care is lower in states that criminalize abortion.
At issue in the Supreme Court case, a ruling in which is expected early this summer, is the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), a law initially written to prevent hospitals from dumping seriously ill patients who couldn’t pay. Pregnant women in particular were often coming into hospitals in labor, only to be refused care; there were stories of women birthing in hallways and cars. EMTALA says that any hospital receiving federal Medicaid dollars (which is most hospitals, both public and private) must provide lifesaving care to anyone who walks through their doors, regardless of their ability to pay. That means that hospitals have an obligation to stabilize ill patients. (If they don’t have the ability to appropriately stabilize a patient, they must move the patient to a facility that does.)
Jill Filipovic wrote in Slate the insidious trend of anti-abortion hardliners making pregnant people 2nd class citizens by enacting laws criminalizing access to out-of-state abortion services (this is also applicable to gender-affirming care).

V: I now proudly present, the life and times of earnest Hemingway in aproxamently 3 and a half minutes. GO! Born in Chicago in 1899, son of a physician and a musician, reasonably uneventful childhood, decided to study Journalism. Enlisted with the Red Cross during World War I, got BLOWN up in Milan and spent 6 months in hospital with severe shrapnel wounds in both legs. Fell in love with a nurse, they decided to get married. He came home to prepare, she stayed there and ditched him for an Italian soldier, which initiated a life long pattern of him rejecting women before they had a chance to reject him. Got a job as a foreign correspondent, fell in love with his roommates' sister, married her and moved to Paris. They hung out with Gertrude Stein. They kicked it with Pablo Picasso. He started writing in earnest, no pun intended. Moved to Toronto, had a kid, moved back to Paris, published a couple of books. Cheated on his wife, got divorced, married the other woman. Converted to Catholicism... Cut his head open after pulling on a cord thinking he was flushing a toilet and instead ripped a skylight from the roof and smashed it onto HIS FACE! Moved to Kansas City, had another kid, his dad committed suicide, he shot a lot of bears for some reason. Had a car accident, had another kid, went to Africa to kill some wild animals and got dysentery karma! Published another book, moved to Cuba, SHOT HIMSELF IN THE LEG WHILST AIMING AT A SHARK! Cheated on his wife, got divorced, married the other woman. Published "For Whom the Bell Tolls," sold half a million copies in a couple of months and got nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Cheated on his wife, got divorced, married the other woman. Became the self appointed leader of a band of village Militia outside of Paris and was subsequently brought up on charges for contravening the Geneva Convention, and GOT AWAY WITH IT LIKE A FUCKING CHAMPION! Got pneumonia, moved back to Cuba and spent most of his spare time on his boat TRACKING NAZI U-BOATS WITH A MACHINE GUN AND A PILE OF HAND GRENADES I AM NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP! Had a few more car accidents, three more concussions, got CLAWED WHILE PLAYING WITH A LION... Got depressed, drank. Got fat, published a couple more books, went back to Africa to shoot some more wild animals, and barely survived two separate plane crashes in the space of 24 hours, winding up with a fractured skull, internal bleeding, cracked spine, ruptured liver, first degree burns, and a paralyzed sphincter muscle karma! Won a Nobel Prize, had a file opened on him by J. Edgar Hoover, left a bunch of shit in a safe in Cuba and moved to Idaho, paranoid that the feds were following him WHICH THEY WERE BECAUSE HE SPENT MOST OF THE 1940S WORKING FOR THE KGB, AGAIN NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP! Suffered from hepatitis, nephritis, hypertension, hemochromatosis, anemia and impotence, karma. Got committed, received way too much electroconvulsive therapy and came out all fucked up, started hinting at suicide so immediately got recommitted, received another couple of months worth of electroconvulsive therapy, got released, put both barrels of his favorite 12-gauge shotgun into his mouth and BLEW HIS FUCKING HEAD OFF! WHAT A GUY!

KC Zine con was held at Goofballs Skatepark in the Waldo area of Kansas City. It was a really good show. I had a lot of interest in my work. One of the many highlights was a Kansas City Librarian taking a copy of The Field Guide to the Frogs of Jasper County for their brand new zine collection. Apparently Kansas City library patrons will be able to check out zines to take home and read which I think is pretty cool.
Going to zine/comic/small press shows is a real treat for me because it's the only way I get to see people in real life engage with my work. I had a number of people stand at my table, read comics cover to cover and laugh. It's an incredible feeling, it really makes up for the fact that most of them don't buy anything.
I gave away copies of The Dog Sandwich Portfolio for free and it was a big hit. "Free" is an incredibly popular price point and a great way to introduce new folks to my work.
I had several people ask if I sold stickers. I found this baffling at first because I'm so focused on the craft of making comics that making stickers never really occurred to me. This morning I ordered stickers of my cover version of "Au Lapin Agile" .
It's a two hour drive from Joplin to Kansas City and one of my favorite things to see are old grain silos that have trees growing in them.
Thanks again to everyone who reblogged my table assignment post for the show! I appreciate you all helping to get the word out.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Are 'All In' and He Plans to Visit Her on Eras International Tour (Exclusive)
The NFL star is planning to visit Swift on the international leg of her Eras Tour, a source tells ET.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's romance is reaching new heights as the NFL star is planning to be by her side when she starts her international tour dates, scheduled to kick off in November.
A source tells ET the duo is fully committed to their relationship and the future.
"Travis and Taylor are all in. The two are very into each other and are enjoying their time together but are also planning for the future. Taylor starts her international tour in November, and Travis is planning to be there to spend time with her," the source says. "Travis and Taylor are very serious about their careers, and the two bond over that and want to show support for each other whenever they can."
During week 10 of the NFL season, Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs enjoy a bye week, providing him with a brief respite. Coincidentally, during this very week, Taylor is set to take the stage for three consecutive nights in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from Nov. 9 to 11, marking her debut international Era Tour performances. This fortunate scheduling overlap grants Travis the opportunity to be in attendance.
In the midst of their whirlwind romance, Travis is taking proactive measures to safeguard his privacy. ET has learned Travis recently purchased a new home, something he has been wanting to do for a long time. His current house was easily accessible to the public, which is no longer feasible given the onslaught of attention he's received.
This news comes after Jenna Bush Hager fueled rumors that the new couple might be buying a house together in Kansas City, Missouri, where the Chiefs tight end lives.
On Monday, the Today show host excitedly claimed in a viral clip that "a friend" shared that the couple might be "buying a house."
Hager was quick to caution viewers that the claim was merely a rumor and "not confirmed by NBC News." ET later learned that the rumor wasn't true -- however, it may have been fueled by Travis' solo house hunt.
Despite his increased privacy -- understandable, given that there were plenty of photos of his house and neighborhood published after Taylor met his family there before attending her first Chiefs game back in September -- Travis has said he's loving every second of his high-profile romance with the pop superstar.
"I embrace it," the Super Bowl-winning tight end said in an interview with Taylor Rooks prior to last week's Thursday Night Football broadcast. "I love the chaos. Knowing everybody is looking at the Kansas City Chiefs, and then you add in all the madness that's happening out here in the world, and it's a whole bunch of fun for me right now."
On this week's new episode of his New Heights podcast with brother Jason, Travis also addressed the viral videos of him helping Taylor from the car on a recent date night, admitting that he does feel "protective" of the singer when they're out together.
"I feel like whenever I'm on a date, I'm always having the sense that I'm a man in the situation," he shared. "I'm protective, yeah, for sure. You always have to have that feeling or self-awareness, I guess."

People speak with Ed Kelce, Travis' dad (x)
Ed tells PEOPLE that the “Karma” singer is “a very, very sweet, very charming, down-to-earth young woman."
His initial impression that Swift is “very genuine" was proven right upon his first meeting with the singer.
“I’ll tell you something very special that I noticed about Taylor the first time I met her,” Ed shares. “We're sitting in the suite, she gets up and in the front room, she gets up to go get a drink or something and she starts picking up empty bottles, cans, plates that are scattered around. Because in the suites everybody gets stuff and you empty it down wherever you can.” Ed continues, “And I'm just thinking, I don't think she got the diva memo. She didn't get the spoiled musician. She doesn't know how to pull that off. And that really to me said a whole lot.”

Victor Oladipo believes Taylor Swift makes Travis Kelce better (x)
October 25 - Ed Kelce speaks with ET (x)
"I think they are two very, very driven professional individuals," he says. "I think they're very supportive of each other, which is key. This is a rough time for either one of them to have a relationship. She's in the middle of this ginormous tour, he's knee deep [in the NFL season]. At least he takes his just as serious as she takes hers as far as commitment to their craft."
Ed believes that Taylor's pre-concert ritual of preserving her voice -- which Travis claims is the reason he was unable to present her with a friendship bracelet -- shows how dedicated and understanding she is when it comes to her career.
"I think she's very committed to that," he says of the "Anti-Hero" songstress. "And I think Travis supports that. And I think she realises how committed Travis is to sleep, 10 hours a day, when your body is going through this kind of thing. So I think they're both very supportive."
And should the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl...
"Without a doubt," he says about saving a seat for Tay. "She'll be in the middle of the Eras Tour so..."
And if Ed himself should ever make it to the Eras Tour, he'll be singing "You Belong With Me," as he revealed that it's his favorite song of hers.
"Being genuine with your feelings," he tells ET of the dating advice he gave Travis and Jason. "Being respectful of a woman, and that's taught from a young age. Be yourself, be honest with someone's emotions. But these are all things that they've understood growing up just being the norm."
Episode 60 of New Heights airs, part of the episode title is "Travis Reacts to “Swift Stats"" (x 56:20)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In response to whether National Tight End day is a real holiday, Jason tweets
Tumblr media
October 26 - Taylor is seen out in NYC. She is at Bradley Cooper's apartment with Shawn Levy, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. That night, Taylor goes out for dinner with Alana and Danielle Haim at Holiday Bar, NYC (x)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Patrick Mahomes says that he wants to have a secret handshake with Travis after his wife Brittany and Taylor went viral for theirs (x)
“I need to talk to Travis, because me and Travis don’t even have a handshake yet,” Patrick, 28 said during a radio interview with Kansas City’s KCSP (610 AM) on Thursday, October 26. “So I mean, they’re ahead of the game on us. So we’re gonna have to get on the whiteboard, and we’re gonna figure out a handshake so that we can try to one up theirs.”

trick or treat! -blorb
another little snippet! this was originally the start of the clark POV to mission parameters and then i realized that if i continued the fic like this it was a) going to be so so depressing and b) it was going to be a real challenge to get clark to the place he actually is in mission parameters.
Clark was seven, the first and only time he saw his father cry. He hadn’t been able to sleep, and so he’d snuck down into the kitchen to get a glass of milk and see if he could stand in the kitchen doorway and make out the tail end of one of the late night shows Ma and Pa stayed up for. Only Ma and Pa weren’t in the living room. A puddle of golden light was spilling from the kitchen doorway, and Clark thought he’d be in trouble for being out of bed, but neither of his parents noticed him. Ma’s hand was on Pa’s shoulder, rubbing small circles into the worn fabric at his collar. Pa had his face buried in his hands. There was a pile of papers on the table. “Well, maybe we can take out another loan,” Ma was saying, in the soft soothing voice she used when Clark had a nightmare. “Just to get us through the year.” “There are no more loans,” Pa was saying, muffled through his fingers. “I talked to [name] at the bank last week. They’re going to start taking the land if we can’t make payments. Martha, we have to seriously talk about--” And then Clark was fleeing back up the stairs, but up the stairs was no good, because his hearing was getting better and better every day, and he could still hear the low, desperate drone of his father’s voice, the words he did not yet understand-- mortgage, interest rate, loan term-- and the tone he did.
the long backstory to this is that while doing some background reading for mission parameters i realized that if i set it when i set it (roughly the mid-2000s) Clark would have been growing up during the height of the 1980s midwestern farm crisis, which is a hell of a time to be an alien kid in Kansas. 300,000 farmers defaulted on their loans! a number of banks failed completely! and so you have Clark growing up in this environment where a) everyone over 60 still remembers the great depression and b) everyone he knows is being absolutely screwed over by the banks. because agriculture runs on credit-- you need credit to buy equipment and supplies and seeds, and then you pay it off at the harvest. or you can leverage the value of your land. except that in the 80s the farming land bubble that had ballooned in the 70s completely collapsed, and lots of farmers saw the value of their land crater. so they've mortgaged their property to get capital to farm, and now their property isn't worth shit, and also interest rates are peaking at 21% on these loans. AND there were two droughts that decade, plus the price of grain dropped because of an export embargo on the USSR. just a whole shit deck stacked against you if you're a farmer. (as a side note this also led to an upsurge in right-wing white extremism and xenophobia in rural areas of the country as well as a corresponding surge in progressive and left-wing organizing.)
this is a lot of infodumping to say. oops! i made a guy with serious economic trauma and then i paired him with a billionaire! and i tried to wrangle with that a bit in mission parameters but it's uh. well! it sure is a thing!
we have long passed the point at which this is a "little snippet" but i do think Clark growing up in a community where his friends at school were losing their homes and moving to cities would have really shaped his sense of justice. and i'm attached to the idea that Ma and Pa were doing their best to help their neighbors and modeling that for Clark.

“From the fact that you’ve deigned to make an appearance in flyover country, can I assume I’ve kicked a hornets’ nest?”
His smile twitched. He sipped his tea. In the years since Bela first met Crowley as a child, his face had gotten older, his belly wider, hair thinner, but his manner never changed. All at once, he came across as a dear friend and a deadly threat. “From the fact that you contacted me at all, can I assume you stuck your head in it before kicking?”
All these years later, he still spoke to her like a misbehaving child. Bela cast her eyes down. If he wanted to play the doting uncle, let him. “Nothing I can’t get out of, but I’d like to know how badly it needs getting out of.” She sipped her coffee. It was uncommonly good. For the price of membership at this place, she presumed it was sourced from all the finest child labor some third-world hovel could offer. Crowley’s type loved that sort of flavor.
Fond amusement settled on his face, but she didn’t dare mistake it for affection. “This is for your new thoroughbred? Cowboy yokel, the second coming?”
Bela hummed. “He’s less wary of hornets than I am.”
“Take my advice, leave him to them. Come back to DC. You’ve been out of the water, but you’ll remember how to swim before long.”
She nearly took him at his word. Crowley was a crooked bastard, out for himself, but he had no reason to sabotage her. At least, he hadn’t yet. Then her eyes drifted to the decorative cow’s skull, adorned in dried flowers, which hung on the wall behind him. It clashed spectacularly with his sharp, all-black suit. ‘City slicker,’ the locals would call him. Crowley hated Kansas more than she did, and he’d gone and sullied the wheels of his private jet with it. If he only meant to tell her to quit her job and come home, he could do that on the bloody phone.
Bela set her coffee down and spread her arms across the back of the chair. “You once told me: campaigning isn’t an art; it’s math. Fixing isn’t an art; it’s engineering. And finding a candidate, a real candidate, the kind that will take you somewhere… well, that’s not art either. It’s magic.”
He puffed up, pleased to be quoted like a sage.
“Dean Winchester isn’t a thoroughbred,” she told him. “He is the thoroughbred. I’ve felt the magic, Crowley. Now tell me who’s trying to buy it.”

Jess Piper at The View From Rural Missouri:
When I first moved to Missouri, I taught at a school in Kansas City. I introduced myself for the first time to a co-worker, and she asked where I was from; I told her Arkansas. I didn’t specify a town because no one has heard of Altus, AR. She said, “What’s it like moving to a big city?” She assumed I was from a small town because I was from Arkansas. I laughed and asked her if she’d ever heard of Little Rock or any town in Northwest Arkansas? They are pretty big cities and all are in Arkansas.
To be clear, I was not offended. I am rural, but I have noticed over the years that folks confuse GOP-dominated states with rural spaces. They aren’t the same. Even the reddest states have blue cities. Even the most regressive of states will have progressive voters. And, rural communities always have Democratic voters. Ask me how I know. I know there has been much written on the vote-against-our-their-self-interest, redneck voter. Something about red hats and diners. Something about guns and racism. A lot of it isn’t nice or even true. I have some thoughts…
Reaching rural voters.
Rural folks aren’t props. You don’t have to pander to us with pickups or jeans or boots, although if you showed up in a pair of Mucks, I’d know you were the real deal. You don’t have to wear a plaid shirt, or drive a flat bed— looking at you, Josh Hawley. You don’t have to use the word “y’all” unless it’s natural. You don’t have to talk down to us like we aren’t educated. You don’t have to ask about crop prices unless you know enough to not embarrass yourself. You don’t have to act any differently with rural people than you would with any other bloc of voters.
[...]
It’s not that difficult to understand rural people. Many of us have been rural all of our lives and we want the same things every other American wants. We are like you in most respects, but we might value physical privacy and a hands-off approach to government a little more — and we don’t mind a long drive to town. Here are a few misconceptions about rural Americans:
We all live on farms. In fact, most of us don’t. Many of us work in ag, but we don’t own big farms. You need generational wealth to buy a farm that you can make a living off of. There is a listing just down the highway from me for 220 acres of tillable ground. No house, no out buildings, no barns. It’s listed at 1.5 million. That’s just the land. Now, go price a combine. You’ll need generational wealth.
We all vote against our self-interest. We often vote for progressive ballot initiatives (hello, legalized weed) so you know that’s not true. However, I will not be able to vote for a State Representative in November. My current Rep has no Democratic opposition. Last cycle, it was me running against him, but I couldn’t afford to run again this cycle. When tallying up Dem voters, it will be easy to write my district off, but we will have no one to vote for. I couldn’t vote in my self-interest if I wanted to.
We are all gun nuts. I mean, a lot of us own guns, but we also use them. They are tools in my house, not accessories to wear to town and never used to intimidate. My kids hunt (we eat what we harvest) and we also use them to protect livestock. It’s also handy if you’re in FFA and enjoy competing in shooting events. P.S. Not all of our kids are in FFA or 4H, but those programs are awesome…especially for young women.
We are all racists. I’m absolutely positive rural America has its share of racists, but guess what? So do the cities. There are Black folks who have lived in rural spaces for generations (shocking!) There are people of all backgrounds who call rural America home, just like every other corner of the US. We have racists, but racism isn’t just contained in rural spaces. It’s an American epidemic, not a rural one.
We are all angry. I recently read a book title about the “angry white rural voter” written by a couple of progressives and my first though was, well, this will help the cause. Yes, there is anger, and if you visit places like my town, you’d see why. We aren’t building, we are razing. We aren’t growing, we are diminishing. The anger isn’t from some pissed off redneck. It’s local folks seeing their way of life dying. Their children moving away and never coming back. It’s not anger…it’s sadness. Yes, many of us could vote better, but back to not having a Democratic nominee…
Here’s what I truly think; the way back to sanity is through rural America and red states. Wyoming has the same amount of Senators as California — why not send money and resources to Wyoming? Or Montana. Or Arkansas. Or Iowa. Or Missouri. Contest every seat on every ballot — even in rural spaces. Especially in rural spaces.
Jess Piper writes yet another home-run piece on rural voters and Democrats: they are in rural areas, even if they are outnumbered and oftentimes don't have a candidate running for such offices.
Hopefully the trend reverses.

That France mandatory food waste program got me thinking.
I have a friend who lives in (Large City), Kansas, USA who doesn’t recycle.
Not because she doesn’t care, or just wants to watch the world burn.
It’s because there IS NO curbside recycling program.
The only way households can recycle is if an entire city block agrees to purchase a blue dumpster, and then pay a weekly (exorbitant) fee to have a special truck come and haul their recycling to a separate facility.
That is horrifying! My friend was shocked when she and her SO moved out there, since they both grew up in Seattle area as well.
Of course no business/household can afford something like that, let alone get an entire city block to agree to fund a bin. So there is no recycling.
Again, it’s things like these ppl in the environmental movement need to remember.
Those ppl in Kansas aren’t choosing not to recycle because they’re malicious. It’s because there is no government program to help them. Even if they needed the funds up front, a solution could be to offer rebates to homes that recycle. That would help offset the cost, and would make recycling more appealing.
People like myself, who have ways to make their daily life low waste, are privileged.
What about people who HAVE to drink bottled water? What about people with allergies who CAN’T buy from bulk bins? What about people who NEED life saving drugs/medical devices? (I am one of those ppl, but I still consider myself low waste because how the drugs are packaged are out of my control)
These things are NO ONE’S fault. Never blame or judge anyone who has needs that do not have a low waste option!
Remember to check your privilege before trying to tell someone how to live their life.
[And this post isn’t even touching on how low income folks often can’t afford anything except prepackaged/fast food. Because I have no illusions that not everyone 1)has the time to go to a specialty store to buy in bulk, or 2)has the energy to meal prep or make everything from scratch. Some folks have multiple jobs, or families. So they need cheap food in large quantities. And sure, making stuff at home is cheaper per serving, but costs more in time and energy. I will NEVER think less of someone who can’t cook the way I can. And I will shame the hell out of anyone who tries to pass judgement on how others live*]
*this doesn’t include billionaires or private plane having dickheads who are adding to the climate crisis. I’m talking about the normal, everyday people who individually cannot make any changes that’ll impact climate change in a positive way. This is why we need legislation.

1/snail So about that autobiography: Obviously this is supposed to be a huge book launch with sale starting on a sunday. People lining up on saturday to enter the book shop at MIDNIGHT on sunday to be the first to buy that book. With 1 million books calculated for pre-orders this is a huge deal. And the shops will make it a spectacle. Maybe the author even shows up to one of the book shops? But where? Home town of the author or in a town with a special meaning?
2/ If Taylor was the author of that autobiography, where would she be on that day? Still on tour. She plays Kansas City (!!!) on friday July 7th and saturday July 8th. The book starts selling sunday July 9th at MIDNIGHT. Kansas City! Taylor has a fixation on the Wizard of Oz. In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy finds her happy end when she returns to Kansas! She returns to the real, black and white nitty gritty real life Kansas to be with her loved ones!
3/ Taylor could get herself some sparkly red heels. And on July 8th Taylor can finish singing Karma up on stage in Kansas City. Then click her red heels, take a Truman bow and walk through that orange door home, to her real life loved ones and her own karma. Oh yeah and "take me home!" from Style really feels a bit different now too!

I was just think about it last night. I think she might buy a family home in Nashville and one near Philadelphia after the tour, if she and Travis are still going strong. She will have to invest those tour millions. I think Jason is very much settled in Philadelphia and not going anywhere after his NFL-career. Papa Kelce also lives in Philadelphia. Taylor has roots in Philadelphia. It's a full circle. And I don't think Travis will live in Kansas City for the rest of his life.
Yes she will need a bigger house out of the city and keep her condo when she needs to go into the city. Philadelphia for sure too. Like a farm or something like Gigi.
