Modern AU with kakairu but iruka also starts dating yamato lol

Kakashi and Iruka have been dating for a while at this point, and have become comfortable around each other. Sometimes Iruka will even stay at Kakashi’s house overnight, meaning he’s usually caught in the kitchen by Yamato or Gai in the morning trying to get a cup of coffee. An unfortunate side of Kakashi sharing a house with his two best friends.

Gai for the most part says his good mornings and heads out the door for his morning run. no big deal. But Yamato loves to sit around and talk to Iruka. Keep him company while Kakashi’s sleeping in because Kakashi doesn’t know the meaning of ‘early morning’. Man’s a teacher but if he can sleep in you bet your butt he’s doing it.

The two of them usually think that they’re just chit-chatting. Throwing random comments at each other or talking about fun things. But then one day Kakashi actually wakes up with Iruka, and while he and Yamato are having their morning chat he turns around and says something like “I can see you two are busy flirting. should I leave?”

He’s not even being a jealous boy. He thinks this is hilarious. Especially when Iruka and Yamato start denying the fact that they’re flirting and both of them get so flustered and adorable.

 They don’t know why, but suddenly Kakashi’s inviting Yamato into everything that him and Iruka are doing. Not all of their dates of course, but if they’re watching a movie on the couch or out for a swim in their backyard pool, he’ll invite Yamato.

Iruka thinks it’s a little weird, but he’s not really complaining. Two hotties for the price of one? He won’t turn that down.

Yamato’s a little more awkward about it. He doesn’t want Kakashi thinking that he’s trying to steal his boyfriend. They’re adorable together and Kakashi deserves to be happy. But damn Iruka is a sweetheart and he can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy whenever he’s talking to him.

So this just goes on for a few months. No one really says anything, and it’s not broached.

Until one day, Gai is on his way out the door for his morning run and calls back to Iruka “Don’t forget to wake your other boyfriend (Kakashi) up so he’s not late for work”. Something Gai has never said before, and that has Iruka a little confused until he registers that Gai just called Kakashi his ‘other’ boyfriend. And now him and Yamato are just starring at each other awkwardly.

They end up having a huge conversation, with both of them admitting that they kind of actually do really like each other, but Iruka also being like ‘but i also love kakashi. that hasn’t changed’. They have no idea what to do when Kakashi walks in mid-stretch, takes one look at the both of them and says “Have you officially become a couple yet or should I keep acting like I’m the only one who gets to make out with Iruka?”

Both of them die on the spot. Iruka has the worst boyfriend, Tenzo needs a better friend, but GDI he’s not wrong and they hate him for it XD.

ROOT Reformed

Okay so you know how Yamato, Sai, and Shin were in ROOT? Well, what if Yamato had seen the two children, one so sick he was throwing up blood and the other so antisocial he kept getting bullied because of how he talked, and adopted them? The Dad!Yamato, and Child!Shin and Sai headcanons that nobody asked for coming right up :)

When Yamato first met Shin and Sai, Sai was hiding behind Shin because he accidentally insulted someone and got punched. Shin was trying to comfort the small boy and protect him.

Yamato then decided to adopt them both, he scared away the bullies and helped Sai cover his black eye, which looked worse than it was since Sai’s skin is so pale and markable.

When Yamato learned that Danzo was sending the two small children on B-Rank missions as PAWNS and they just barely survive all their missions, he personally whooped Danzo’s ass

Yamato was put in charge of Shin and Sai and the two children warmed up to him quickly

Yamato chasing Shin around the room trying to get him to eat vegetables

Yamato having to force veggies down two screeching kids throats

Shin and Sai doing target practice and Yamato tallying up the scores

On Christmas, Yamato sneaked Shin and Sai out of Root so they could go to an actual party

When Shin and Naruto first met, it was chaos at first sight

Sai following Yamato like a lost puppy and holding on to his pant leg until Yamato picks him up and put him on his shoulders

Yamato, Sai, and Shin cuddling by the fire like the smol beans they are

When Shin got really sick from his unnamed diease, they immediately went to see Tsunade, even though it took a week to track down the gambling lady

Tsunade getting full access to Root’s medical supplies so she can make sure Shin is okay

Shin surviving and being cured of his illness, NOT DYING BECAUSE HELL NO YAMATO WASN’T ABOUT TO HAVE HIS CHILD DIE, NOT TODAY SATAN

Sai and Shin keeping their memories and growing up with an actual parental influence

Yamato chasing a cackling child with a huge butchers knife around the house, both of them are yelling

Sai being the sassiest little shit in the world and everybody thinks he doesn’t know what he’s doing but Yamato’s just like “You sneaky lil’ shit-”

When Sai got to join Team Seven with Yamato, they brought Shin along as an ANBU “for the mission” when really, they didn’t want to leave him behind and come back to find the house destroyed

Yamato trying desperately to find where the hell Shin is getting all this cup ramen from and Sai is just not telling Yamato because he’s a lil’ shit

Shin third-wheeling with Kiba on all of Ino and Sai’s dates (Kiba third-wheels on everbody’s dates, its a fact)

KIBA x SHIN, KIBA x SHIN, KIBA x SHIN (I’m sorry I just need my dog boy-o to love somebody okay??)

Shin just randomly came home one day holding Kiba’s hand and Yamato immediately adopted him

IRUKA AND KAKASHI SHOW UP AND BAM (Yes, this is KakaYamaIru. Shhh-)

Naruto and Kiba calling each other “Brother” bc their father-figures are dating

Sai and Ino being quieter about their relationship than Shin and Kiba but they’re literally so damn cute oh my lord

Shin and Kiba going on dates that are mostly composed of running around the woods and chasing rabbits but they love it anyway

Yamato being a Proud Dad™

When Danzo died and the family got their curse marks removed and became real Leaf Village citizens they were overjoyed

Suddenly, the Leaf Village had about 100 more extremely talented teenage shinobi at their service

Yamato re-opening Root but this time, making it into a friendly place where everybody is supportive of one another

Sai and Shin helping people understand that they’re not alone anymore and it’s okay to have friends and be original because you’re one purpose in life is not to be a pawn for the Leaf Village anymore

Sai getting to decorate the ceilings of the Hatake Mansion with whatever designs he likes, making it not only beautiful but deadly

The Hatake Mansion having designs of tigers, birds, flowers, and symbols all over the roof

Murals of the person in their rooms (Naruto has a silly fox one, Kiba has a dog one, Kakashi has a lightning one, Yamato has a garden one, and so on.)

Yamato adopting Shino bc we need our bug boy to be noticed (COUGH COUGH NARUTO)

Shin running around the house, chasing a bee that stole his homework

Shin becoming a super energetic gym teacher at the Academy

Sai becoming an elite jounin and having a custom, crop-top uniform

Yamato becoming the nicest leader of an ANBU division there’s ever been

Shino and Sai being weird shitposting edgelords together

Sai and Ino baking cookies together only to find that Shin, Kiba, and Naruto ate them all

Iruka managing the chaotic household while being constantly cuddled by Kakashi and Yamato

Tsunade never sending Jiraiya on that mission alone, she sent Kakashi with him and they managed to win the fight. Barely, they were in a coma for a few weeks, but they sure as hell won.

Accidental Happyness

Hatake Kakashi/Tenzo Yamato/Umino Iruka

Pouring himself another glass of Sake, Kakashi rolled his eyes when Tenzo waved his own empty glass in front of his face. “Use your words, Tree boy.” 

“pfft, you have no room to talk,” Tenzo argued, slamming his glass down on the table in front of Kakashi and watching him fill it. “You don’t know how to say anything. Whether you want it, or you hate it. You never use your words, Senpai. So why should I?”

Two drinks in and Tenzo was drunk already.

And here he had thought his Kohai would have become less of a lightweight over the years.

His mistake.

“I do so use my words,” he argued. “I use them all the time. To tell Naruto to listen to the plan, beg Naruo to not give me a headache for just one day, sweet talk you when i want free lunch,” he got a particularly nasty glare for that one. “oh, and i can always talk about Iruka. I could talk about him and his stupid pretty face all day.” 

Tenzo’s glass drops from his hand, crashing down on the table while Tenzo turns to glare at him.

“Don’t you dare talk about his pretty face, Senpai,” he growls out in warning. “That’s my pretty academy sensei. I’ve been staring at that pretty face for months trying to ask him out.”

“Months,” Kakashi huffed. “I’ve been trying to ask him out since the first time i met him years ago, but life kept happening.” He’s not even exaggerating there. First he needed to let Iruka focus on Naruto and hope that the academy Sensei could give his student the love and care of a big brother that he has never been able to. Then he got Team Seven and everything went to shit. Even with the increased sightings of a particularly adorable sensei, he never had a free chance to ask him out. “I’ve been trying to do it for years. I get first dibs.”

“First dibs my butt!” He doesn’t need to look to know that everyone in the place is now looking at them. Tenzo had yelled so loud he’s certain people in Suna could have heard him. “You owe me, Senpai. I put up with your shit with no complaints…”

“That sounds like a complaint to me, actually.” Kakashi argued.

“You know what i mean!” Tenzo slammed his hands down on the table, making Kakashi question whether that third drink was a smart idea after all. “I get to ask out the cute Sensei. You can let me have this one thing, Senpai.”

“You act as if I never give you anything,” He grumbled under his breath. “I’m not the big, bad, mean Senpai you seem to think I am, Tenzo. I give you cuddles when you want them don’t i?”

He’s pretty sure Tenzo was about to answer him before he dropped that last sentence. His mouth was open ready for an argument, and then he heard ‘cuddles’ and it looked as if his brain had shattered into a million pieces.

“D-don’t say that out loud!” The Mokuton user shouted suddenly, his eyes wider than normal. 

“Too late,” resting one arm on the table, Kakashi propped his chin on top of his hand and smiled at his friend. “Beside’s, I think it’s a fair trade. You get all the cuddles you could ask for, I get the cute sensei. We both get what we want, right?”

“Not right,” Tenzo hissed. “Not right at all. That’s completely unfair and no amount of free cuddles is going to change my mind.”

Opening his mouth, Kakashi started to respond to Tenzo’s argument when a hand suddenly came down between the two of them and slammed down on the table.

“One night,” both of them cringed when they heard a familiar voice. “I go out for one night to enjoy myself, and all i hear while i’m trying to relax with my friends is two Jonin’s trying to argue over who gets to...to…”

“Date you!” Kakashi can hear Genma calling through the crowd. 

Always helpful that one. 

“Thank you, Genma,” Iruka grumbled under his breath. “You two, Ichiraku Ramen tomorrow after my classes are done. Do not be late.” He directs that last comment towards Kakashi with a glare. “If you are late, we continue without you.”

“O-ok.” He’s not really sure what else to say to that. It seems pretty straight forward, no argument needed.

Except, as soon as Iruka walks away from them with a satisfied nod, his brain kicks into gear again.

“Did he...are we…” The words refuse to come to him.

“I think i’m in love,” Tenzo’s eyes followed Iruka through the crowd. “No, i know i’m in love. That was amazing.”

“Tenzo!” Reaching out, Kakashi grabbed his friends shoulders and gave them a shake. “Tenzo stay with me. He just asked us out. Both of us.”

“Aww, no,” Tenzo pouted. “I have to share him with you? You always hog everything from me.”

Ok, he was definitely going to give Tenzo shit for that comment.

After he dealt with the mental crisis going on in his brain from being asked out by Konoha’s resident hottie.

How was he going to explain this to Naruto if things worked out?

‘Sorry Naruto. Tenzo and I are dating your favorite Sensei and there’s nothing you can do about it’

He’s certain that’s not going to sit well with his student at all, and that he and Tenzo were going to have to react fast just to avoid getting rasanganed through a wall.

REST DAY

Tenzo stretched, luxuriating in the warmth of the two bodies either side of him. He rolled on to his back and stared at the ceiling for a moment. 

"G'morning," Iruka said groggily. 

"Hey you," Tenzo said lovingly. 

Kakashi stirred and stretched. 

"Morning," he yawned. 

Both Tenzo and Iruka greeted him with a smile. 

"What's on the agenda today?" Iruka asked as he snuggled into Tenzo. 

"Absolutely nothing," Kakashi said as he too snuggled into Tenzo. 

"Bed day?" Iruka asked happily. 

"Bed day!" Kakashi and Tenzo chimed together. 

For the rest of the day, they alternated between sleeping, eating and chatting.
