The situation in Florida and around the globe has some coral scientists confronting a dark reality: Coral restoration, which started as a noble endeavor back when humans weren’t this far down the road of climate breakdown, is bearing little fruit. It has failed to keep up with wave after wave of loss, yet remains the bulk of what’s being done to help ailing reefs. And scientists in the field are scrambling to figure out what comes next, with no clear consensus. “What we were doing 10 years ago was working, and it was the strategy that we could do at the time, but things are changing fast. This year, in particular, should have been a wake-up call to everybody,” said Ken Nedimyer, who founded CRF in 2007 but left in 2017 to start another outfit called Reef Renewal USA. “What we were doing and are doing is not going to work. We’ve got to do something different.” “To rinse and repeat,” he added, “the results are going to be exactly the same, which is failure.” [...]
When it comes to the threat of human-caused climate change, the world’s fragile reefs are often described as the canary in the coal mine. “If the coal mine is the Keys, the canary is dead,” said Bill Precht, a veteran coral scientist based in Miami. Even before last summer, upwards of 90% of coral on Florida’s reef had vanished due to warming temperatures, pollution and sediment runoff, disease outbreaks — stony coral tissue loss being the worst of them — and other threats. Coverage of stony corals, those that build hard skeletons and are the foundation of Florida’s 350-mile reef, was around just 2%, down from historical levels of 30% to 40%.

estoy rendido del amor de una mujer
a/n: he got me y'all don't look, I'm down bad. so basically this is just a one-parter. I don't know. If you ask for a part two or if I see y'all like it maybe I can whip something up. lets just see how it goes.
and for the sake of this story: Armando didn't kill the captain, and he's out on some 'good behavior' deal and helping Mike and Marcus with cases linked to the cartel.
Armando Aretas x fem!reader
SUMMER 2023, MIAMI FLORIDA
You almost got burned tonight. A rookie cop saw you, and the heat you were packing and tried to arrest you. After hastily explaining to him that you weren't packing for no reason, he let you go. But you had missed an important meeting.
It had taken you two years to get into German's inner circle. German is a big player in the Miami scene. He's not known for being a trusting person. But he does have a thing for high ranking positions of power and women. Deadly combination, which was what you used.
Although he's putting you on the back burner after tonight.
You sigh and slot your key into the lock. The lock doesn't turn. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up. You take out your knife, not wanting to make too much noise for your neighbors.
Slowly you ease into your apartment. You look around quickly. The four corners of the living room are clear. Then again they would be, anyone who was lurking inside could be seen from the window.
You had your knife up as you tip toe into the kitchen. And there you find them.
Mike and Marcus. And they brought company. Three other people you don't know in your house. Your undercover house. They are all looking above something on the table, too occupied with it to notice your arrival.
"Oh what fresh hell is this." you say.
They all turn around.
Mike smiles, "I was just telling the crew about you."
You hold up you hand, "Whatever the hell this is, is gonna fuck with my shit so you need to go. Now."
"Langauge! I thought I told you that last time." Marcus shouts.
You put down your knife with a sigh.
"I've been working this guy for two years, and if he sees two cops coming out of my apartment I'm done. I'll curse if I want to curse." you explain.
The tall blonde man raises his hand, like he's in school. Your eyebrows raise in surprise as you look at Mike and Marcus.
"Dorn, you don't have to-just say what you want say man." Mike says.
The man, Dorn, nods his head and then looks at you.
"We know you're after German. And we're not here to cause any trouble but we just needed to ask for any information you have on his right hand man." Dorn says.
He picks up a tablet and shows you a picture. You look at the screen and then back at Dorn.
"Do you know him?" the woman asks you.
"That's Nico, they call him Nissan. Well, called. German found out he was skimming some off the top and lets just say he's not on vacation right now." You answer.
Mike groans, "He was our only way in."
"Into what? What have the two of you old-timers got yourself into this time?" you ask.
Mike and Marcus start arguing loudly when you call them old. You snicker as you reach into your fridge and look for the last Corona you had. When you find the bottle is not inside, you close the fridge door.
Your eyes scan the counter top, to see if you maybe left it out. But you don't find it. So you look over at the table. You find it there, opened and empty. Next to the unknown male in your kitchen.
You meet his eyes.
"You drank my beer?" you ask, though it's not a question.
He smirks and tilts his head at you. "Problem?"
You roll your eyes. Then you walk over to Marcus and Mike.
"I've told you that he's dead, so he can't help you. Neither can I. Yo've gotta go now." you say.
"No no no, hold on. If Nico is burned then the only one who can help us is you. We just need some files-" he speaks but you cut him off.
Burned. Nico is burned. He was an informant? German definitely didn't know that. Or if he did, he is keeping it close to his chest. Christ.
"Do you want me dead?! German either killed Nico knowing or not knowing that he was an informant, but either way he's dead. If I go snooping around I can just drive myself over to the morgue." you argue.
"She's got a point." Dorn says.
You turn to him, "Thank you, tall International man."
"Dorn is not international, but that's not the point. The point is, you have an in. And we need you." Marcus says.
You sigh. They need an in when you're not exactly in German's good graces. Great. Not only would you have to work your way back but you'd have to work under pressure.
"He'll smell her from a mile away." the unknown man says.
Mike looks over at him, "She's very good at what she does."
"Cops tend to have a tell." The man shrugs.
"She's not a cop. She's a freelancer." Marcus answers.
"And the best one I know." Mike tags on.
No doubt buttering you up. You groan. Yes, you liked being called the best at what you do. And it wouldn't take much to get info. You have the access. You'll be under a close eye but you can pull it off.
"Tell me what you need and when you need it by." you say.
-
2 DAYS LATER, MIAMI
You pulled the straps of your dress tighter. No wonder needed them to be 'loose' for an accidental cleavage slip.
The compute chimed and altered you that the information was done copying. You ejected the thumb drive and stuffed it into the fake juul packaging. You closed all the windows on the computer and pressed restart.
Now came the hard part. You smoothed out your dress and walked over to the door. You checked between the blinds and made sure no one was coming this way.
It's not like you couldn't be in the office. If someone a bit lower than you saw you coming out you wouldn't be questioned. But if someone higher than you in ranking saw, they might be curious.
You exit the office and turn down the hallway. Taking the way with the most witnesses as possible, more people to account for you later on.
Into the blue room, where you pass the exotic dancers. Then though the 'greenery' room, where some workers are watering the plants. Finally through the purple room where the weapons are stored.
You make it all the way outside with no one stopping you.
With a sigh of relief you quick walk to your motorbike. You take out your helmet and put your bag into the storage underneath the seat. Without another thought you get on your bike and ride out of the compound.
You ride from South Miami to your apartment near Hollywood.
When you get there, you go around the back. Better to let everyone think you weren't here than you were. Who knows who could be watching you.
You come in from the window in your bedroom. And somehow it feels like you're intruding because here he is. In your room.
Mike told you about him, a little. Armando is his son. His son with the cartel woman he was seeing way back when that he didn't know he had. He's done things, bad things. But he's making up for it.
Making up for it by sitting at your computer in your room.
"Oje, get the hell out of here!" you shout.
He turns to you slowly. You hate his cocky attitude. You hate his smirk and how he keeps eye contact with you. You step fully into your room and slide the window closed behind you.
Armando gets up from the seat with his hands up, "Lo siento,"
"You're not sorry, otherwise you wouldn't have found your way in here in the first place." you speak.
He looks you up and down. Yeah it was probably the dress. It's summer time in Miami and you weren't about to put on a sweater. You'd have to blend in and a sundress was about as normal as ablue sky here.
"You know spanish?" he asks.
You start walking away from him, "This is Miami."
You take out the thumb drive and open the door to your room. When you stop walking, you hear him laugh to himself. You watch him walk through it first and then you after him.
"Mike, I got it." you say as you walk into the living room.
The shades have been drawn and the black out curtains too.
"I ever tell you you're the best?" he jokes.
"Yeah every time you need something." you reply.
You hand the drive to Dorn. He takes it and plus it into his computer. You watch as the flies pop up on his screen. He seems to be reading them a mile per minute.
"What'd you want with all that anyways?" you ask.
You watch as Marcus and Mike share a look between themselves. It unnerves you. You know they have a way of talking without sharing words. It's what happens when you work with someone for so long.
Marcus smiles and claps his hands together, "Mike thinks I should be the one to tell you. Because he has a more salp-able face."
You squint your eyes.
"Are you about to screw me?" you ask.
"Not per say, but you might not like what we have to say." Marcus ushers you to the kitchen.
The two of you walk all about two steps in before he's unloading on you. He starts off pretty strong, that you''re more than capable of handling German. And that you put in the time for it too.
But then he's telling you a different story.
German is in connection with a guy they're looking to take down. Something about a syndicate. Something about getting both of them at once. And Mike and Marcus have the backing of the PD.
You can feel the steam coming from your ears.
"Marcus you can't be trying to poach my guy right now!" you yell.
"The yelling, keep it down, you're undercover after all." He holds his hands up in defense.
You cross your arms over your chest, "You don't even know who I'm working for."
"Well, it's not someone who's paying you that's for sure." He divulges.
All at once he realizes he probably shouldn't have said that. Because if he knows you're not getting paid for this job then he's went though your bank statements. And probably a lot more.
Your eyes widen and your turn around and run into the living room. There you find Dorn, hiding behind Mike, with his computer in hand.
"You got beanstalk here to go through my stuff?!" you yell.
Mike pushes Dorn back even further.
"Look, we needed to know if we were stepping on government agency toes. And now we know we're not." Mike answers.
You leap to pounce on him but Marcus is faster and grabs you by the waist. You fight against him a little, knowing the he's probably gonna feel it tomorrow morning.
"That's an invasion of privacy. But I guess like father like son, since this one was in my room when I got here." you shout.
Mike looks at Armando, "Now, I told you to get out of there."
Armando shrugs.
"I'm sorry. But listen you can still be part of it." Mike says.
"How nice of you Mike. I'll be sure to thank you when we're done." you spit sarcastically.
Marcus lets you go and you decide to take a seat on the couch. Dorn frees himself from the corner of the room and takes a seat in the arm char that is farthest from you.
"You never take a job for free. What gives?" Mike asks.
You roll your eyes. It's not like you were money hungry. Yes you needed money to survive but you weren't broke. You could afford to not work for the next ten years if you wanted to. But you'd miss it too much.
This isn't that though. This isn't fun.
This is revenge.
"I thought you read through my stuff. You didn't put it together?"
"It's revenge." Armando answers.
You turn around from your seat on the couch and look at him. He's looking right back at you. He probably didn't read your file, probably was too boring for him. But how'd he figure it out?
It's not like you left the reason on your computer. You wouldn't make such a rookie mistake.
"How'd you figure that out? Did you find her moodboard?" Marcus jokes.
You pass him a look. He takes a step back.
"Alright, alright, no more jokes about the mood board. Got it." Marcus says to himself.
"What other reason could she be doing this for?" Armando asks.
"It's been twelve years. I spent ten years tracking him down and two years infiltrating his circle. He has no clue who I am. None." you start to explain.
"I'm sorry, it wasn't in your file. Who are you?" Dorn asks.
"Well she was leader of the dirty dozen in New York. Highly effective tactile group, skin ranging from murder, assassinations, weapon making, and a whole lot more." Mike says.
"And when the group cut ties, she ran the underground for a bit. Nothing happened without her knowing it." Marcus adds on.
"Not a cop." Armando says.
"I'm the daughter of German's former right hand man." you answer.
Which is why it stung a lot that Mike and Marcus wanted to take this case from you. Knowing who you are and knowing what it means. You worked for this. And you're gonna see it through come hell or high water.
-
THE NEXT NIGHT, MIAMI
Mike and Marcus were all set with their crew. German would never allow them to step foot into his compound but lucky for them they don't have to.
You snuck in last night and triggered the sprinkler system. Everything got flooded. So while German is getting everything cleaned up and possibly looking for a new base of operations, he's hanging out with a buddy.
Zio. Money hungry drug mover. Only thing he loves more than money and drugs is his expensive shoe collection. Which he's putting on display tonight.
A rich man's party is the best place to re-con. You told Mike and Marcus how many men German has on him at all times, but that doesn't give them much for when the time comes to take him down.
What's their tactical response like? What weapons do they bring on the move? How many cars? Things like that. Which was smart thinking and not at all on your mind when you first started this.
Armando leans back in the van's chair, man spreading. You roll your eyes but you say nothing. You weren't really trying to talk to him. Lest he find out more about you.
He seems to be tapped in to you. Which is weird. You've never had someone checking for you before.
"I can hear you rolling your eyes from here. What's up? he asks.
He spins around in his chair and faces you. Smug look on his face as he leans back.
"Nothing. Just want to get this over with." you say.
He nods once, then he creeps closer to you with his chair. He's about a foot away from you.
"You wanted to be the one to kill him." he muses.
You look at him, "Well yes. It was my mission. I found him. I infiltrated. I lost someone to him."
"It won't make the pain go away." he says.
"Oh please don't give me the 'revenge will just turn into guilt' talk. I got it from Mike and Marcus." you sigh.
Before you can blink or think of anything else to say, you feel your chair being pulled to the left. You grab onto the only thing in view and that happens to be Armando's leg.
"If I get him in my crosshairs, I'll hand the shot to you." he says.
You look him in the eyes, "Do you want a thank you or something?"
He smiles, "No te preocopes, no quiero nada."
"It doesn't seem like you don't want anything." you reply.
The back door of the van opens and he lets go of your chair. You slide back a bit to put some space between you two. He turns back to the screen in front of him.
-
THE NEXT MORNING, MIAMI
The steam from the shower wafts out the bathroom. You wrap your towel around your body a little tighter as you walk into the kitchen. The tea you were making is beyond ready, the kettle at this point screaming at a frequency only dogs can hear.
You turn it off and set it aside.
As your reaching for your favorite mug, you hear faint noises from the front door. You run over to the dinning room table and reach underneath the wooden chair. Your fingers wrap around the gun and you pull it close.
One swift check and the safety is off. You crab walk to the other side of the kitchen counter, away from the door. The noise becomes louder until you hear the door open.
"Shit, where'd she go." a voice says.
A voice, you know it. You get up from your position on the floor and look around the wall. Armando.
"What the hell are you-" you're about to ask.
"We need to go. now. No time to pack. Put some clothes on." He directs you.
He almost gives you no say when he grabs you by the elbow and maneuvers you into your room. He closes the door behind him and takes out his gun.
"Am I just supposed to undress in front of you?" you question, with your eyebrow raised.
He lets his arms fall to his sides. Then he walks over to the window, allowing you to walk over to the closet. You pull the door open and grab the first pair of jeans and shirt you can find.
Making sure he's actually turned first, you then put on your underwear and bra. Then you pull the shirt over your body, lastly your pants.
You walk to your dresser and reach into the cabinet. The noise must alert him that you're dressed because he turns around.
"We don't have time. You got made." Armando says.
"What the fuck do you mean I got made?" you ask.
"What I said. You're not safe here." he answers.
You grab your go-bag and move over to the window. Chest to Chest with Armando you look up at him.
"Where the hell am I gonna be safe then?"
He doesn't answer you. Maybe because he didn't have an answer. Or because the bullets started raining into your apartment right on time. Then he was nudging you out of the window and down the fire escape.
-
A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER, UNAMED MOTEL, ORLANDO
You put your bag down on the floor. The bed looked horrible. But horrible would have to do for now. You can't really make requests on the run.
Armando shuts the door behind him.
"Since you paid you can take the bed." you say.
He scoffs, "I'm not that kind of man."
You look over your shoulder, "Just one that snoops through my personal stuff and ignores personal space."
He says nothing. He walks silently into the bathroom and closes that door behind him too. You sigh and plop down onto the bed. You didn't understand.
Before Mike and Marcus showed up you were on track to get revenge within the next two weeks. Everything was set. There were backup plans. They were contingencies.
Now it was all shot to hell.
You hear the shower start up and lean back into the bed. And without meaning to you end up falling asleep. Right there on your back.
Armando comes out of the shower about five minutes after that. The soap sucked and the water had no pressure but at least he didn't feel like the sweat was clinging to him anymore.
He walks out of the bathroom and finds you laying on the corner of the bed. He looks you over once and crosses the room to cut off the lamps.
When the room is dark, he takes one of the pillows from the bed and sets himself up by the door. His gun tucked to his hip. This way he can keep an eye on the door and you.
You were interesting to say the least.
Usually people don't affect him this much. He can get on with his day and do what he has to do. Nothing comes in between him and a mission.
Especially now when his only mission was his freedom.
But there was something about you. Or, that's not really true. There were multiple things about you. He could see the lust for revenge in your eyes, he recognizes it well. He could tell you weren't being forthcoming either.
And he liked how you spoke your mind.
Liked? Why is he saying liked?
He doesn't really know you. He knows a little bit. He knows you only like tea, there is no coffee in your apartment. And you live in sweatpants when you don't have to be undercover. You also seem to have an aversion to the color blue.
He doesn't really know you. He can't like you.
He looks over at your sleeping form. How your lips part just a little bit and you snore. And your head leans to the right, your dominant side. He doesn't want to make you uncomfortable and move you. But he knows you'll wake up sore from sleeping this way.
So he gets up. He gets up because he needs to stretch his legs. Not because of any other reason.
He walks to the bathroom and turns on the light and the vent. Hoping the sound will rouse you and you'll move on your own. He steps into the bathroom and closes the door with a bit more force than needed.
He looks into the mirror. He looks himself in the eyes.
This is bad. This is bad because you're the type of girl he would take a bullet for.
-
THE NEXT MORNING, ORLANDO
"Mike-"
"I fucked up. I know you wanted this, and I took it from you when I should have let you handle it."
"Mike-"
"And now you're on the run. You've never been burned before, and it's because of me."
"Mike!"
"What?"
"Shut up for a second and let me think."
You sigh.
German caught on to the eyes on him when he was at the shoe party. While anyone else would have packed up and fled to a non extradition country, he's staying here.
A sign.
Whoever it is that wanted to get him, should come see him face to face. No way in hell were you going to do that. Not only did you have the smarts to wait him out, you didn't want Mike and Marcus to put themselves on the line. They would no doubt follow you into the fire.
"I think I should make my peace with this before anyone gets hurt." you say.
There's silence on the other end of the line. With Mike not talking , you turn around to find Armando. He's standing there, two feet away from you on the hood of the stolen pick-up truck from the motel parking lot.
"That's big of you." Mike jokes.
"Very. But I mean if I see him about to get ran over, I'm not goin to save his ass." you quip.
Mike laughs, "He doesn't deserve it. Your forgiveness."
"I know," you say and Armando looks at you then. "I should probably return him to you, since he's on parole."
"Yeah well he did some things that might kick that back a few years." Mike answers.
You shake your head, "You can say it was all me. Make sure Dorn gets rid of any incriminating footage."
"I didn't tell him to go get you, you know that?"
You don't know why but hearing that makes your heart kind of thump weird. Not thump weird. Your heart is already thumping, but it feels different.
Different as you look him in the eyes.
The first time you interacted with him you hoped it would be the last. And now here he is sticking his neck out for you when you haven't been all that kind.
"I didn't know that. I'll get him back to you in one piece." you speak.
"Thanks. And keep me updated wherever you land."
"Will do. Thanks Mike."
You hang up the phone. Armando takes a step closer and you hold out the phone for him. When he does you feel the quickest static brush against your fingertips.
"You good from here?" he asks.
You nod your head, "I'm a big girl, first time for everything."
He nods once with a small smirk on his lips. He looks away, somewhere off behind your shoulder. It's not like you didn't notice he's good looking. But you just never thought about it for too long.
"Let me drop you off at the station." he says.
You don't want to smile. You shouldn't smile. "Okay."
Armando waits for you to start walking. Once your in front of him he walks over to the driver's side. You climb into the truck and shut the door.
You could've walked. The station is only ten minutes from here. You smile a bit to yourself when he puts the car in drive.

S1E8: Ice
Case: Two FBI agents, a geologist, a medical doctor, a toxicologist, and a guy who happens to own a plane walk into an Alaskan research outpost turned crime scene. Stop me if you've heard this one before...
A team of geophysicists doing some fun breaking of the ice suddenly end up dead, and Mulder and Scully are selected, along with a handful of other lucky ducks, to go find out what killed them. What they discover is a bloodbath and a very angry dog. The dog did not murder them, but he might be the key to finding out what did. As unfortunate parasitic discoveries start to be made, things descend into chaos faster than you can say "black nodule." Scully wants everybody to shut up, Mulder asks everyone not to judge his dick size, and CGI is used liberally. Is this a whodunit? Or a whatcausedthemtodunit?
Does someone die in the cold open: Yes. A confused looking man and a shirtless man with blood directly on his tits hold each other at gunpoint, only to then decide to kill themselves instead.
Does Mulder present a slideshow: No, but he did bring a video for Scully to watch.
Does the evidence survive the investigation: Nope! The evidence on the surface killed itself, and the whole place is torched before any more evidence can be found.
Whodunit: Okay, technically it was a bunch of murders plus a couple suicides, but they were just being Ratatouilled by some prehistoric, potentially extraterrestrial, ice worms.
Convictions: None necessary
Did they solve it: Yes. I'm giving this one to them. This is one of the few episodes where hard science, without any twists, saves the day. They could write this in a report and not make their bosses want to kill them. Good job you guys, you prevented a plague!
[how do i determine if a case is solved? check the scale here: x]
THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY: The 1982 playoff game between the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins.
Have you been struggling with stress? Have a lot on your mind? Maybe your job is running you ragged. Or maybe you're stuck in an outpost in Alaska researching the horrific deaths of some scientists. Or maybe the in-laws are in town this week! Whatever the reason, if you need help getting your mind off stuff, we've got the solution—the 1982 playoff game between the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins!

Y'all, the Florida reefs are nearly 100% bleached or dead right now. Water temperatures are hitting the mid to upper 90s, as high as 101F in Miami. This is bad. We are seeing a combination of El Nino conditions on top of warming ocean surface temperatures due to climate change creating a marine heat wave.
Nurseries still have live coral, and deeper water reefs (where the water is cooler and UV is less) are in better shape. Many people are working hard to preserve these reefs, but this is bailing water in a sinking boat. We NEED to reduce carbon emissions; this is what stops the boat from sinking. It is NOT too late to save corals and support recovery but it is time to stop screwing around and do it.

4 victims shot and killed in murder suicide: an 85-year-old woman, her ex-husband, their son and his wife. Police said the Male shooter was over 60 years old– Miami Florida reporting
Joanna Cruz said she’s known the victims for years. She came to the house when her mother was bringing food to the elderly woman inside.
“She couldn’t cook anymore, so my mom came to give her food and she kept knocking and knocking and nothing. And she asked me to bring the key,” Cruz said.
What she found inside was a bloody scene.
“I saw the elderly lady on the bed and the elderly man’s body on the bed to the left, blood coming out of their mouths, and the wife in the other room,” Cruz said. "I feel like I'm in a nightmare."
The fourth person found dead inside is who Cruz believes to have fired the fatal shots.
I saw them. When I saw three, I said, where is the fourth one? I know there's a fourth one. And I ran out because I said, if he's still alive here, I’m next,” Cruz said.

Buffalo Bills 2023 Mid-Season Review
“Think a little bit less and just play football…” Josh Allen, 10/24/2023.
Welcome to my mid-season BLOG on the 2023 Buffalo Bills regular season review. As of right now we are 4-3 on a stretch of bad games over the last three weeks. This season is beginning to look more like the 2021 season rather than last year or the 2020 season. The 2021 season was the first season where a 17th game was added to the regular season and one preseason game was removed. The BILLS were 11-7 that year. We lost to the Chiefs in the Divisional Playoff game. You know, the one where Buffalo had the game won twice in the final two minutes, kicked off to Kansas City with 13 seconds left, and they got the game-tying Field Goal, won the coin toss for Overtime, and went right down the field in no time and scored the game winning Touchdown.
Yeah…That…Game…
Yeah…That…Year…
After losing to the worst team in the NFL this year, the New England Patriots, I do not BILLieve we are playing for a championship this season. We are not even playing well enough for the division title right now, even though we are only one game back and have that tiebreaker against Miami. Right now we are playing to just keep our head above the water line. I am basing most of this on what I have seen from the team, past, present and the flow of the games played so far this season. The injuries, instabilities on both sides of the ball, no identity on offense, missing key players on defense, our ability to know what the problems are during the game, but are not able to correct them, in-game, when we need them.
Earlier in the year we showed signs that we could adapt to what other teams were doing against us, during the course of the game, and we'd be able to make adjustments and then outplay our opponents after those adjustments. Now we cannot do that. Where we once had unity and played complimentary football has turned to too many young guys that are not true starters for an NFL team trying to make plays as if they were everyday starters. I have always viewed backup players as players that would start if the starter wasn't starting. That the team likes this guy but another guy is just a little better. That isn’t what I am seeing from our backups. What I am seeing are guys that are playing for backup jobs and play like it when they are in the game. First guy needs to make the tackle or at least hold up a guy and wait for help to finish a tackle off. The last three weeks it’s been first guy just misses the tackle outright or takes a bad angle.
Like the bad years when Buffalo was dead last in the division.
Guys would get penetration to make a big play and then whiff on the tackle. All of a sudden now we cannot trust our secondary to cover man on man in critical situations? We have to play zone which only works if the pass rush is there forcing the Quarterback to make a hasty throw. It hasn’t been there for the last three weeks. Too many backup players in the game that could not get off their blocks in the fashion we need to be able to run a zone scheme like that over the course of a game. We try blitzing and now we have less secondary options for zone coverage.
I have been writing about the Buffalo Bills games/seasons since I started my BLOG in 2015. Many of the older blogs related to the Buffalo Bills have since been removed due to age and them not being directly related to this team. That was the Rex Ryan years. The oldest BLOG I have for the McDermott Saga starts with the Divisional loss in Kansas City during the 2021-2022 season. It was that game when the emotional rollercoaster went next level and pretty much has not stopped since. I had already experienced some craziness during this cycle with the team. The Houston Wild Card loss where we had a two position lead going into the 4th quarter and found some way to lose that game. The “Hail Murray” game where the situational problems seem to have started and the AFC Championship Game loss to Kansas City. Granted we were never in that game. Kansas City beat us up and it was generally a boring game as a Bills fan. Josh Allen really showed growth that year that he could be and is an elite Quarterback in the NFL. The next year was the 2021 year. This was the season where we had ups/downs all year. The offense wasn’t as deadly as it was the prior year but showed signs it could be. We struggled, but ended up winning the division from New England. We played them in the Wild Card Game at home and destroyed them. There was plenty good feelings around that we could go into Kansas City and win as we did it in the regular season that year. It was right there and all we had to do was go and take it. We all know how that ended. There is an entire BLOG on my feelings from that game. Some of it, or at least the feelings I had right after that game are still present today. Some of the issues we saw in that game are still very much prevalent this season. I feel like that is why there is so much panic with the Buffalo Bills fan base, better known as “BillsMafia.” Two years later and it feels like the same ol’ same ol’ with the problems we have.
I Am Emotionally Drained Myself…
To be so close and have it slip through our fingers the last three seasons, four, if you include the loss to Houston. We are now getting these feelings of frustration almost game to game now. Last year it was frustrating because we were injured most of the year. The offense was being called by 1st year play caller Ken Dorsey, who was the Quarterback coach before he was promoted to Offensive Coordinator with the departure of Brian Daboll to the New York Giants Head Coaching position. Buffalo tends to hire from within and promote from within, so this was not a surprise. What is a surprise is how unbalanced the offense has been under Ken’s play calling. My home was hit very hard from Hurricane IAN that it was nearly three weeks before we could again watch football in a normal, comfortable environment. So perhaps I take the Buffalo Bills woes a little more personal and harder than others might. Not saying that I am going overboard as a fan. I feel like I am not, but I do have personal feelings invested on how the team does. To see us “this close” only to move forward in baby steps, but crash and burn like the resolve of a “feelings-hurt” teenager is disappointing, to say the least.
I told my audience I would take a day to think on this and get some feedback from the official media sources for the Buffalo Bills and the independent ones to see if my thoughts and feelings could be swayed either way. I have mixed emotions and thoughts here. At first I felt like, this was it. That our year is over and perhaps we will make the playoffs as a divisional runner-up wild card team that shows up to play, but can’t get out of their own way. One and done… I simply do not want to speak on my thoughts on the Buffalo Bills from a strictly emotional point of view and wanted some real world X’s and O’s perspectives before I began writing this. I openly admit that my football knowledge of X’s and O’s is not as sound as it was when I was a player. However, some stuff, most stuff, still stands out to me. I do feel like this year is closer to the 2021 year and that this current struggle in the year will build character, but it also adds to the pressure. The offseason after the Bills lost to Kansas City in that Divisional Playoff Game the sports media played it as 2022 is “Super Bowl or Bust,” and that isn’t how the game is played, even though the Bills BILLieve it to be “Super Bowl or Bust” each year. I just think that now, moving forward, our team has seen just about everything the Football Universe can throw at us in order to prepare a team for a championship. A lot of the greats went through it: Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Brett Farve, John Elway, all had to deal with stretches where their team wasn’t playing well, but were still in the mix for the division title and playoffs. Sometimes they recover, balance shit out, and go on to win championships. Both Farve and Elway won Super Bowls after tasting playoff defeat. Elway had three Super Bowl losses before he won two in a row and one against Farve. Jim Kelly lost an AFC Championship Game and a Wild Card Game before ripping off four straight Super Bowl appearances with all four being losses. Mahomes has lost a Super Bowl, Brady lost three for that matter. So to think or feel Buffalo is out of it now that they are 4-3 and playing not so great means they are done. At this point there are ten games left and much can and will happen before the playoff schedule is made up and the media jumps on that wagon.
It’s been typical in the NFL in modern-days that if you are a team, you get/got hot in Dec/Jan, somehow, find a way to make the playoffs, you got a chance. Based on that criteria I feel like we're still in this thing. Miami lost to the Eagles on Sunday Night Football, the defending NFC Champions, in a good hard fought game. The Buffalo Bills are only 1-game out of first place in the AFC East. We beat Miami earlier in the year and get to play them again. We play the Jets and the Patriots again. Those are swing games. Those teams can also lose like we have been losing and probably will at some point in the year. The Dolphins so far have only been able to beat up on bad teams and have not been able to beat good teams. Granted they were both road games. We shouldn’t overly panic, but yeah, if we continue to hold onto false hope that this season is SUPER BOWL or bust then it’s a bust. Let’s stop thinking about home field, the division and the playoffs and just go out there and win games again.
Like Josh said: “Think a little bit less and just play football…”
We're still in this race; no need to panic, but we can sure lift up the plastic transparent casing that says “panic button” and hold our finger above it if we end up missing the playoffs. If we miss the playoffs you will see some major changes in the philosophy at how we are doing our business. Probably get new Offensive Coordinators and Defensive Coordinators, I’d imagine. I doubt Coach McDermott is on the hot seat for his job, but will have pressure to make changes in the team’s philosophy. Clinging to Super Bowl hopes this year is unrealistic at this point. We should focus on hiding our shortcomings and exploiting our strengths. Simplicity is key when the offense lacks an identity. Threaten opponents without extravagant plays, complicated formations, and utilize Diggs, Davis, Cook and the Tight End position better in those 5 Wide Receiver sets. Allen can still be a threat with his legs in a 5 WR set with 2 of those WRs being 2 TEs blocking for him in those packages. Josh Allen's potential remains untapped this season.
Our OFFENSE Needs Variety, Not Predictability.
I noticed a lot of predictability in what our offense is trying to do in certain situations. To me, when they run out of shotgun it is apparently obvious that is what they are gonna do. Sometimes we break a run from it, but we tend to run better with Allen under center and motion with a TE as the extra blocker, statistically. We should do what we do well, rather than fix what's broken. If we aim for the playoffs at 10-7, we must excel, not wait and hope. Winning more games, especially against weaker teams, is imperative. We lost to the league's worst team, which Buffalo allowed to dictate the tempo and pace of that game. We need both offense and defense to execute the game plan. It would be a great help that we need a game plan that actual has a level of success to it. There shouldn’t be a lot of surprises. If something isn’t working the way we want it to work, then we need to be able to change that in the game, as it happens. The No-huddle offense ignited us the last three games now in the 4th quarter, suggesting it's time to remove the training wheels off this offense and Josh Allen. It's a challenge, but it aligns with our familiar BILLS offense. In 2020 our offense with Josh Allen was super explosive. We were super-aggressive down the field and not just go routes, but Tight End, over the middle, deeper and sitting in the zone. We pushed the ball, north and south. Lately; I feel like we are shortening everything. The offense moves different when they are running tempo and pushing the ball. Even on the runs. Quick hitters in tempo can pop a big run here and there after a deeper attempt, whether it is completed or not.
Right now I feel like its last years style with 2021’s struggles and record. The schedule coming up is going to be brutal. As long as we win more than we lose we’ll be playing in January. Like last year; we are playing at the level of our opponent. We should be thinking about exploiting what we do well and ignore trying to overly progress with this offensive scheme. When you have no identity on offense, you can simplify things to keep the ball moving. It is what New England did to us. We do not need huge junk plays, but we should always be threatening teams with them. We came close once with Diggs. Davis can also stretch the field. However, if they are covering all that we can dink it down to the Tight End over the middle or out to Cook in the flats. Josh Allen should also have more to do. We have not used him to his full potential. It’s almost like we cannot multitask on offense. We do not know if we should line up in 5 WR or 2 backs in the backfield. It almost feels like our offense is getting slowly predictable. We can do what we can do and do it well. Rather than trying to fix something that doesn't work and hasn’t' worked since the Kansas City playoff game; two freakin’ years ago now. We are so far away from that. We are so far away from the opening night in L.A. a year ago. If we finish 10-7 and make the playoffs we'll have to get hot. We cannot just wait for the playoffs to come and hope we can win one before not showing up for round two again. However, we have to think about NOW, right now. There won't be a playoff game if we do not win more games than we lose and at least win against teams we should win against. We lost against the WORST team in pro football right now. They can't run, block, or tackle, turn the ball over too much and still showed they can't do those things against Buffalo at a very high level but Buffalo allowed them to do whatever they wanted.
Against the Giants we needed the defense to come through. Against New England we needed all three phases and all three phases failed us. The offense got hot once we went No-Huddle. Allen will keep us in games, but it is now time to take the training wheels off the offense. Why we are not running more No-Huddle I can't tell you. I can tell Dorsey doesn't like it, but I feel like that is the only thing that gets us moving in a way that seems more like the BILLS offense we are used to seeing. Coach McDermott expresses confidence in the team and their ability to turn things around. I tend to agree with him. At the end of the day we are good football team that is under performing, but it isn’t yet time to panic. It isn’t time to start firing coaches and benching players. If we have shortcomings and we cannot get around those shortcomings we need to do a better job of hiding them. We have done that the last two seasons. 2021 we had the number one defense in points, and yards, but the defense was very weak up front that year. That year the defense did not tackle well or cover very well in the big games against big Quarterbacks. We were able to win during those years because our offense kept the peddle down and teams would get behind or couldn’t stop Allen/Diggs so they would abandon their game plan, like run north/south directly at us where we are weakest. We did correct a lot of those issues, but with injuries we have absolutely lessor players in those key rolls and they just cannot get it done. We have to hide these weaknesses better. This is also why it is so important for the offense to get back to what they do best. Last year’s defense a lot of the same. It’s a good defense, but we are small upfront and teams should be able to run at us a little bit, which they have done. When we are behind and the clock is our enemy this is where and how teams can beat us. Our defense is a bend but don’t break, but when you have the injuries we have it doesn’t break, it crumbles. Sure, we can play most of the game decent and keep us in the game, but we cannot expect our Defense to hold off teams under those circumstances week in and week. Especially when the offense is having its own issues. We need to get a bigger lead and force teams to play us from behind. We can play from behind too, but don’t expect us to be able to score every time with a minute left in the game and one time out. It’s just not a realistic way to win week in and out.
The offensive line was questionable from the beginning of the year. However, they have played outstanding most of the year. However, they did struggle against New England. I do not believe this will be a trend, but you can clearly see when they are not up to the task how south our offensive can get. If we cannot protect Josh Allen we won’t make the playoffs. It starts there… Our special teams really needs to start giving us something back too. Not just the kicking game but also the kick receiving game. When was the last time the Bills blocked a punt or return a kickoff for a Touchdown? Stuff like that. Granted Bass is a great kicker, he has had a bad stretch. I feel like he will kick himself out of it. He has never really had a rough stretch so it is bound to happen. If we can keep it from being “a thing,” he will be fine… I trust the guy.
The last thing I want to touch on here is Coach McDermott. I make mention of this in the BLOG about the Kansas City Playoff Loss and I am getting a little tired of Coach not properly explaining himself sometimes. I get it. He doesn’t want other teams to get a philosophical grasp on what he might do in a game. However, teams already know by now. McDermott is not Belichick. He hasn’t coached in, what? 11 Super Bowls? Two with the Giants as Defensive Coordinator and nine with the Patriots. If Coach Belichick wants to be super vague about everything in a press conference he can go and do that. Coach McDermott on the other hand cannot consistently do that and it be just alright. All the situational football questions about the “Hail Murray” game. About the Kansas City Divisional loss, with 13-seconds to go and somehow the Chiefs get in Field Goal range to tie the game. The Minnesota loss last year. There have been many examples to show that Coach McDermott does not have a handle on situational football. He should be answering questions like this and for good reason. If he doesn’t want to get into these debates about football then correct the problem. Situational football is a thing that should be able to be managed at a level where it should not interfere with the coach’s ability to manage a game during the game. When questions are asked, he should answer them. As Head Coach, McDermott is like Captain Kirk in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. That as the captain of a starship, you are required to be responsible for the conduct and actions of your men under your command. This also means answering for them as well. If mistakes were made or are made, just be honest with us.
Tell Us Straight Up…
All coach McDermott will say is; “we discussed it,” or “I am not going to get into the specifics of that.” Well, why not coach? If he thinks it’s a negative thing to the team I get that. Then he should assume 100% of the accountability because I doubt he cares what I, the media, and the fan base think about him, personally. He cares about his team and rising above this to go on to win Super Bowls. If that is his reasoning, I would accept that, but just say it man; “Hey guys… We fucked up… We made the wrong call and didn’t know how to get out of it, so we doubled down on the prevent and it fucked us again. Right here, right now we promise our team, our players, our fans, that we will never prevent ourselves from winning a game or a chance at a championship, in this fashion, ever again.” Say that and I am with you man… When it comes to Coach that is all I want from him on these points. Just take the accountability. Tell the media, the us, the BillsMaffia that. Do it with passion, do it with intention man… We will forgive you, we will support you. We all will and do. I can live with missing the playoffs. I can live with getting just a runner up wild card game attempt. Stranger things have happened in the playoffs. Need I remind people of the Oilers comeback or what the Titians did to us? How about the wild card teams that went on to win Super Bowls? I will list them for you.
• Oakland Raiders (1980) • Denver Broncos (1997) • Baltimore Ravens (2000) • Pittsburgh Steelers (2005) • New York Giants (2007) • Green Bay Packers (2010) • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020)
So it is not OVER by a longshot. I hear no Thicc ladies singing. No last rights on the 2023 BUFFALO BILLS. No tribal ran dances, ran dances, huh? I BILLieve we will be there in the end. Anyway... The Good news is we are playing the Bucs on Thursday Night Football. They cannot run, pass, block or tackle either. So let’s see how the team responds. Let’s see their RESOLVE… It was also 2021 when the Bills came back and lost to the Bucs in Overtime only to rip off four straight wins after that, win the Division, blow out the Patriots in the Wild Card game and then that Kansa City game. This is still doable and even if we are 11-6, 10-7 or 9-8. If we get into the playoffs do not go to sleep on us. We plan to stay up pretty FK’n late… Go Bills…

this is a good point! both of these cases are pretty poorly evidenced imo. aiui, one is second hand, the women who gave peter handies was told that he killed himself by another party and then she told that to interviewers, the other (about one of the dolphins who played flipper) by ric obarry is firsthand but honestly he doesnt seem like the most reliable source. like, for example:
In 1996, O'Barry and Lloyd A. Good III, working on behalf of Sugarloaf Dolphin Sanctuary and The Dolphin Project, violated the Marine Mammal Protection Act, a federal law that prohibits harassment of marine mammals. O'Barry violated federal law by releasing two dolphins that formerly participated in the U.S. Navy's marine mammal training program without properly preparing them for life in the wild.[6] The dolphins, "Luther" and "Buck", were illegally transported without a permit from the U.S. Navy facility in San Diego, California to Key West, Florida despite their lack of skills that O'Barry and Good acknowledged were necessary for survival. As a result of this, Buck and Luther sustained life-threatening injuries and were found emaciated, begging for food, with deep laceration wounds by biologists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and required capture to nurse them back to health.
also, it seems like he's changed his story? in the cove he said that she purposefully stopped breathing while he held her in his arms, but in behind the dolphins smile he said
One day Ric received an urgent message from the supervisor at the Miami Seaquarium that Kathy was not doing well. The beloved dolphin was covered in black blisters, and she lay on the surface of the water, barely moving. Panicked, Ric jumped into her tank. She came over into his arms and moments later, while holding her, he felt her tail flukes stop moving. A foul, white foam had formed on her blowhole. She was dead.
which makes it seems like she was sick or injured or something?
idk if theres any solid evidence of dolphins suffocating themselves!
there are two alleged cases of dolphins holding their breath until they die and im like. kind of confused by this...evolutionarily? when a human holds their breath for long enough, they lose consciousness, and then start breathing. so if a dolphin holds its breath until it loses consciousness, i guess the idea is it aspirates water and drowns. but like. i feel like dolphins should have some sort of surfacing instinct? i guess theres that thing where they only sleep one hemisphere at a time so they dont drown. so maybe holding their breath to the point of unconsciousness totally shuts them down enough that they instinctually breathe in and drown. but idk. i feel like dolphins are probably getitng knocked unconscious sometimes in nature. like. in a dolphin fight or something. hit your head on a rock in murky water. do said dolphins just drown? i guess they COULD. hmm this random website claims their blowholes default shut so if you knocked one unconsciousness it would technically suffocate instead of drowning. seems like its some sort of common knowledge that they dont have a breathing reflex. which i guess makes sense...

Rare snake found at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, that died while eating a large centipede!
The state-threatened rim rock crowned snake (Tantilla oolitica) lives in pine rockland and hammock habitats in eastern Miami-Dade County and the Keys. This burrowing species, typically only 7-9 inches long, is seldom seen because it lives under debris, rocks or in cavities in underlying limestone.
A visitor to the park observed a small, dead snake on a trail with the rear portion of a centipede protruding from its mouth. Other species of crowned snake often eat centipedes, but this specimen represents the first food record of any kind for the little-known rim rock species. Crowned snakes immobilize their prey using mild venom but are unable to bite humans because of their small size. The prey item appears to be a juvenile Keys giant centipede (Scolopendra alternans), which can reach the size of a crowned snake as an adult. Crowned snakes are usually immune to the venom of centipedes, whose bites are painful to humans, but something went wrong during this encounter.
Did the snake choke while trying to consume the centipede? Or did the centipede envenomate and kill the snake?
This bizarre but fortunate discovery gave researchers the opportunity to use diffusible iodine-based contrast-enhanced computed tomography (diceCT) to accurately measure the snake and its prey and determine the cause of death. The diceCT scans indicated a possible obstruction of the compressed trachea, suggesting the snake indeed suffocated while swallowing the hard-bodied prey item. Close inspection of the CT scans revealed the centipede imparted a parting bite to the snake (red) before being swallowed and blocking the snake's trachea (purple).
This event represented the first dietary record for what may be the rarest snake species in North America! The snake, along with the partially ingested centipede, are now part of the Florida Museum of Natural History collection.

YOUR POV
Ever since I killed my boyfriend 5 years ago I’ve been on the road; occasionally skipping town, crashing in rusty motel rooms and eating junk food. I was wanted for a murder I didn’t mean to commit. That sounds silly but it was true. I was 17 and in love, he was my first. We decided to go and watch the stars one night but we all know what that meant. I ended up losing my virginity to him and finally killing him. I didn’t know how I did it though. While I was on top of him I suddenly had a strange urge, I got hungry....I ignored it until it was gone...and he was dead. I will remember his face forever, pale as snow with a huge creepy smile on his face. I ran back home as fast as I could, I was terrified I didn’t know what to do or say but when cops came to my house and my mum let them in I knew what I needed to do...run. I got some clean clothes in a bag and all of my saved up money I had at the moment, my car keys and disappeared through the window of my room; not leaving a message for my mum, without a goodbye. It was killing me to know she was probably worried sick but I couldn’t go back, I will bring her only trouble. After that it took me a couple of days to find out how my boyfriend actually died, when the hunger came back. Apparently for whatever reason I craved sexual energy, I was hungry for it. That was when I realized I wasn’t exactly 100% human; hell I wasn’t human at all. Someone found me while I was hiding, a woman, she was exactly like me. Her name was Jane and she was my mother. I didn’t believe her at first at all, I didn’t believe anyone at that time but when she told me I have a birth mark near my bellybutton and how I was allergic to strawberries...oh I fucking believed her. She said she heard about Kyle in the papers and that’s how she managed to track me. Then she told me a story how falling in love with a wrong guy brought her demise. The guy, my dad was like us, but much stronger and violent. One day he reached his breaking point when my mum was feeding on a guy who was a registered sex offender. He got so jealous and tried to kill her and me. Apparently, it was his way of keeping us “close” to his heart forever. My mother barely made it out alive. She decided it was too dangerous for me to be in her care, because he was after her and wasn’t going to stop, so she left me on the porch of a woman I have known as mother since birth.
“What happened to dad?”
She told me she managed to cover her tracks for a while... “He thinks I’m in Miami on vacation.”
She finally told me what I have wanted to know since I killed Kyle - what I am.
“A succubus.” She said with a smile.
“A what?”
“A succubus, a demon that feeds on sexual energy of humans...and other beings.”
That hit me like a damn baseball bat. Me? A demon? IMPOSSIBLE. I have always thought that was stuff of fairytales, demons, angels and all...I was wrong?
“Why aren’t we in hell then?”
She smiled before answering the question. She had the most gorgeous smile I’ve ever seen. “We are not that kind of demons, darling. We roam free. Once we hit puberty our powers emerge, before that we’re just like humans. Real demons have their powers and abilities since birth.”
It finally made sense, everything. I finally knew who I was. But at the same time I had a lot of questions. How do I control my hunger? How do I not kill everyone in my path when I’m hungry? Kyle wasn’t the only one; I have left quite a blood trail before meeting my real mum. I couldn’t help it. It was like a primal urge to me; men or women...I didn’t care, when I was hungry I couldn’t stop myself. That was where mum came and saved the day. For the next two years I’ve been learning about my abilities and everything that came with being a succubus. She had rules. She was organized, meticulous and fucking amazing to say at least.
Rule number 1: DO NOT KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE.
“Your dad and I would feed on serial killers, rapists and pedophiles, you know, before he went crazy.”
She told me to hunt bad people for food. In every town in this damn country there ware bad people, you just had to find them.
Rule number 2: If you want to get food, use your seductive touch whenever it’s necessary.
I knew I was capable of doing that, that’s how I managed to survive while I was on the run; robbing stores with elegance and not paying for motel rooms. How? I just had to touch someone and seductively tell them what I want and boom. They would go under some sort of a trance. They were “in love” with me until the touch wears off.
Rule number 3: Never let the police know you exist, never leave a trail or something they could use to track you.
Rule number 4: If you get hurt in any way, feed, but don’t go all the way if you don’t want to kill the guy or the girl…unless it’s someone bad of course.
“And if you want to feed on a serial killer or a rapist by all means necessary do it, but...know they are usually creepy and freaking ugly.”
“Seriously?” I asked a little surprised. I did not know about the healing part. If I get hurt or sick I would usually just do whatever a normal human does…silly.
“What? That’s how we heal (Y/N).”
Rule number 5: Beware of the hunters.
“There are people who go out of their way and kill creatures like you and I. BE CAREFUL! Especially if you come across Sam and Dean Winchester, run.”
“But they are only humans, mum. What they can possibly do?”
“Trust me on Sam and Dean, (Y/N). They have done things you can’t even imagine. They are extremely dangerous.”
And then she proceeded to tell me how they killed Death itself, made ACTUAL ANGELS fall from the sky and killed demons like it was child’s splay, so I got the memo.
Those 5 rules helped her get by while running and hiding all these years. She then showed me how to control my hunger.
“You have to remember you’re not an animal, the hunger doesn’t control you; you control the hunger. So if you don’t want to kill the person that’s underneath or on top of you, start slow.”
It was easier said than done but with a little practice I managed to do it plus mum gave me some sort of syrup her friend doctor made to control the hunger. It worked. I also found out that if I wanted to feed I could just kiss the person which was a lot more practical if you ask me.
Everything seemed to be in the right place. I was happy travelling around the country with my mum, seeing places I have always wanted to see, doing what I wanted...until he found us. My dad found us. We didn’t know how, but he did and he ruined everything. He ruined my one chance in happiness. He was stronger than both of us. He came armed with a knife and I didn’t see it. He stabbed her right in the stomach, killing her slowly. Before she took her last breath she told me to run. I didn’t want to leave her, she made me. When I was holding her she touched my hand and made me do it. I don’t know how she did it, but she showed me how much she cared and loved me. This was pure motherly love. Through tears and anger I told her I loved her...and ran before he got a chance to hurt me. I’ve never seen that man ever again.
****
This brings us to now. Currently I’m in Lebanon, Kansas searching for my next meal. So far I have fed on one pedophile and two rapists in Kansas and Peter Scully was next on the menu. He was a serial killer that no one knew about. The police knew someone was out there killing innocent women for shits and giggles but they didn’t know who was doing it. Luckily I was faster than police and managed to identify the bad guy. I only managed to do that because he, in fact was a freaking policeman and I got lucky. When I charmed him with my touch hoping to tell me all about the case, he spilled the truth. He told me he needed to drink the girl’s blood because it makes his skin look healthier.... For a human, this dude was disgusting.
The plan was when he finished work at around 7pm to follow him to his house and suck him dry. That was exactly what I did. He wasn’t married didn’t have any children so this was an easy meal. I broke in with ease into his house and went to his living room. The bastard was packing to go on a hunt. I snuck behind his back and touched his shoulder.
“Hi, handsome.” I said as he turned around to face me. “Long time no see?”
“Hi! What-what are you doing here love?” He asked while looking at me like I was a goddess with a huge smile on his face. I loved the fact I could make anyone fall in love with me if I wanted to.
“Oh you know just stopped by to see you.” My hands were slowly going lower and lower towards him junk as he bit his lip not knowing what’s coming next. He probably thought I was going to sleep with him...oh, honey. “I remembered something.”
“And what’s that?” He asked. God his face made me want to vomit. He was in his 30’s and he looked like he still lived in his mum’s basement. Dirty brown hair, big glasses and teeth so yellow and crocked you would think it was corn. But he was a bad guy and I was hungry...
“I forgot to give a goodbye kiss back at the police station.” I said and kissed him. My tongue DID NOT enter his mouth as I started feeding. I could feel the energy as he was slowly losing his breath and I was getting stronger. When a Succubus feeds their eyes go blue as the energy enters their body in a form of a blue smoke. That blue smoke provided us with energy and strength, plus we heal to a degree. Overall it felt so good.
“Hey!” I suddenly heard a raspy deep voice of a man behind me.
I stopped draining the almost dead man as he collapsed on the floor. When I turned around I saw two GOURGOUS looking men with guns pointing at me. I put my hands up as my heart started beating faster. If I said I wasn’t scared for my life I would be lying. They weren’t wearing uniforms so they definitely weren’t cops. I had a feeling they were hunters.
“I can explain!” I said with hands still up. “Please don’t kill me.”
“Give us one good reason why we shouldn’t kill you?” The shorter one spoke. “We have been trying to track you for weeks now. You’re very good at covering your tracks sweetheart.”
“But why? I’m doing the right thing here.”
“As I remember killing innocent people isn’t exactly a right thing to do.” The tall one spoke.
“But he is not innocent.” I finally put my hands down. I was still scared for my life but decided to try talking some sense into these guys. I had no idea who they were but they sure were intimidating. “He is a serial killer. He killed two girls and drank their blood because he said it’s good for his skin and he was planning to kill a 16 year old girl tonight.”
“And how do you know that?”
“Because, I did my research and I don’t feed on innocent people.” I said annoyed. The shorter guy was really pushing my buttons.
“Feed? So this blue smoke is your food? ” He spoke again this time confused.
“Okay, let’s go like this; check his bag over here; If you find ropes, duct tape, knives, a bloody empty bottle and a girls picture with her address on the back will you please put the guns down and listen?”
“Sam go check, I’m gonna keep an eye on her.”
“Sam? As in Sam Winchester? You must be Dean then?” My voice was shaky as my face went white as if I have just seen a ghost. Now I knew I had to be careful with my words if I want to make it out alive.
“In the flesh sweet checks.” He said.
WELL SHIT!
While Sam was rummaging through the bag I was trying not to have a panic attack right there and then. My mum told me about these guys...she warned me to be careful and I forgot to check if anyone was following me like I would usually do. How stupid of me...
“She’s right Dean.” Sam finally said.
Dean finally put his gun down as Sam checked if the son of a bitch was breathing. “He’s still alive.”
“If I don’t give him back his Chi he’s going to die though. And I’m not planning to. That son of a bitch doesn’t deserve to live.”
“What are you exactly? I have never seen anything like this before.” Sam asked.
“A succubus.”
“A succu-what now?” Dean asked confused.
“A succubus, Dean. “
“She’s a demon.” Sam added. “I thought Succubi only appear in dreams to seduce men.”
“Not really. That stuff is from fairytales. We don’t belong in hell nor do we hunt people’s dreams. We live a free life, the only thing we need to do to survive is feed.”
“Will anyone please tell me what exactly is a succu-demon?” Dean raised his voice a bit.
“I feed off sexual energy of people and other creatures to survive. That’s how I heal and keep myself heathy…through sex…more so.”
“So you bang people for food?”
“Not exactly. Just kissing is enough.” I laughed at his conclusion.
Dean seemed impressed for whatever reason. I think I have dodged a bullet this time. “Look, I know you’re hunters but I promise you I don’t kill innocent people. I go out of my way and feed on rapists, pedophiles and serial killers. I would never hurt a fly but I need to feed. Monsters can be humans as well.”
“Dean, I believe her.” Sam said. “I mean this kind of people deserve a death sentence and she’s giving them just that.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
OH THANK GOD.
I was relived, my mum never told me the notorious Winchesters had the brains to understand, she would always tell me how I was above all humans and how they were too stupid to understand. She was definitely wrong about that.
“Thank you for not killing me, I guess.” I said. “Can I finish my meal then?”
“Yeah…I guess.” Sam said scrunching his forehead. This was all new to him.
I got down on my knees and picked the guy’s head up. He was probably in a coma at this point. I kissed him and took the last bit of energy he had until he stopped breathing.
DEAN’S POV
As I was watching her feed I couldn’t help but stare and admire her beauty. She had a perfect figure and that ass in those jeans fuck man…There was just something about this girl, I couldn’t put my finger on it what it was, I just knew I wanted to get to know her. I hated demons but damn this one was a killer. I just hope I don’t end up like my little brother hooked on demon blood or some other crap.
“I’m (Y/N) by the way.” She said and stood up. She was glowing, she looked rejuvenated and even more beautiful.
“So what now (Y/N)?” I asked her.
“Now, I skip town and disappear.”
I felt like she just punched me in the face. It was more of a reality check. She was a freaking demon, then why was I feeling like this?
“Don’t you have a home?” Sam asked her.
“Not really, I’ve been on a road for a very long time, for safety reasons.”
“Before you go, do you wanna grab a beer?” I finally asked her.
“Sure. But I think I need something stronger than beer.”
“Like whiskey?”
“You read my mind Dean.” She smiled. She had the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen. I was so confused. Maybe she just had that effect on everyone. I mean I wasn’t blind, she was beautiful but knowing what she was I thought I would have my guard up at all times, that I’m gonna hate her but…I didn’t? She was different.
We left the body there, but all the evidence of him being a serial killer was next to him. May he rot in hell with Crowley by his side torturing him all day every day.
We went to the bar we always go after we finish a case. Sam had a beer and me and (Y/N) had a whole bottle a whiskey. We talked about everything that night and me and Sam really got to know her. From her childhood to now…everything. She even told us when she found out she was a succubus- when she killed her boyfriend. The look on her face broke my heart a little. She really loved the guy, I can see it in her eyes as cheesy as that sounds but it was the truth- eyes never lie.
“Why no one told you what you are?” My brother asked her.
“My adoptive mother had no idea. She found me on her porch.”
She really went through a lot of crap and when she found her biological mother everything went to hell. And her father…man he was a dick. We had a lot in common.
“How do you control it though?” I asked her taking a sip of my whiskey.
“What?”
“The hunger.”
“My mother thought me.”
“She was…?”
“Yeah like my dad.”
After a good amount of alcohol the conversation went to a whole different route.
“So...have you ever banged a girl?” I asked her feeling the kick of whiskey in my brain.
“DEAN!” Sam shouted. He was kind of still sober.
“What?”
“It’s okay Sam. And yes, we don’t discriminate.”
“Nice.”
“Yeah when you can orgasm.” She then added. Now I was intrigued.
“What do you mean?” Then I added whispering. I was dead drunk by this point. “You can’t orgasm?”
“Real classy Dean.” Sam told me but I ignored him.
“I can but then I would kill the poor soul.”
“But you do feed on...”
“Yeah Dean but I don’t sleep with serial killers...I don’t have that fetish, plus most of them are creepy looking.“
I laughed at that statement, damn this chick was something else. We stayed at that bar till 3am. When she said she needed to go before cops start the investigation I got a little big sober.
“Why don’t you come with us?” I couldn’t just let her leave. Who knows when I will see her again.
“Whaaa-?” She mumbled.
“(Y/N) I don’t think you’re able to drive. You’re dead drunk.” AND THANK YOU SAMMY!!!!
“Fine, fine. I really need my beauty sleep.”
And that ladies and gentlemen was just a start of something...interesting.
YOUR POV
I woke up with a biggest hangover in a room I didn’t recognize. My head was pulsing and I could still taste alcohol in my mouth. I looked under the covers and saw I was still dressed, the last thing I remembered was Dean asking me if I ever slept with a girl, everything else is pretty much a blur.Knowing myself and my high libido, sleeping with Sam or Dean…or both would not have been much of a surprise. I went to the bathroom to get myself together and thank god whoever house this was they had mouthwash because damn, how much have I had last night? I put my hair in a messy pony tail, washed my face and left the room trying to figure where I was…The hallway was aerie and cold. This whole place looked like a bunker people would to hide during a war. As I was starting to freak out a little I heard Dean’s voice. So this was their place? I followed the echo until I found myself in the library and the Winchesters were there reading books. The library was every bookworm’s dream to say at least.
“Well, look who’s finally up!” Dean said raising his voice a little.
“Shhhh, don’t yell, my head is killing me.” I said and sat down.
“Let me get you an aspirin.” Sam said and went to get the magic pill.
“Where am I?” I asked. “Do you guys live here?”
“Yep, sweet home Alabama; even though we’re not in Alabama.”
“It’s a great song though.” I smiled. I haven’t noticed until now just how beautiful his eyes were. Damn, his whole face was beautiful. Green eyes, freckles, perfect smile…god I was feeling hungry again.
“Here you go.” I heard Sam’s voice pulling me back to reality, giving me a glass of water and aspirin. Bless his soul.
“Thank you.” I chugged the whole glass in a matter of seconds swallowing the pill. “What are you reading?”
“Oh you know about demon stuff…succubusy things.” Dean said.
“ Really?”
“Don’t worry we weren’t trying to find a way to kill you. It’s just we have never even heard about your kind.” Sam told me. He was like a little child so enthusiastic and curious, I found it quite adorable.
“And what do those books say?”
“You’re pretty badass.” Dean said. I couldn’t help but smile.
“Yeah, from boosted strength, speed and beauty to transferring someone’s chi…” Sam added.
“Yeah well, it comes with a price.”
“I don’t get it though, is this your weasel or…”
“Oh no Sam, we are not that type of demons. This is me, if you stab me I can die if I don’t feed; it’s pretty simple.”
We spent that day in the bunker, relaxing and basically doing nothing. It was Sunday and the bothers decided it was time for a break. While we were having lunch I couldn’t help but think about my different kind of hunger. How can I be hungry if I’ve fed yesterday? It has never happened to me before. I had a beautiful burger in front of me but I was hungry for something entirely different. I was hungry for Dean. I would as subtle as possible look at him and boy the view was magnificent. I have always had a thing for men’s arms and fingers, and how the veins would show slightly. And if a guy has long fingers I had to have them in my mouth or in me. The main problem was though, I couldn’t. I couldn’t sleep with him without hurting him in any way; I didn’t want to kill him. Hell, if I did Sam will haunt me till the day I die (and the day I die would be when he kills me). That’s the price of being a succubus- if you like someone, don’t tell them, instead walk away and burry those feelings.
“Guys, I’m forever grateful for you not killing me and for taking care of my drunken ass. For the first time in a very long time I don’t feel like a monster.”
“You’re not (Y/N).” Sam told me.
“Definitely one of the good guys.” Dean added while stuffing his mouth with dessert- pecan pie.
“My mum would always tell me it doesn’t matter what you are. It only matters what you do. Her number one rule was: never kill innocent people. Without her help I would probably end up killing who knows how many innocent people.”
“Well let’s make a toast.” Dean said and raised his bottle of beer. Sam and I did the same. “For mama succubus!”
“FOR MAMA SUCCUBUS!” And so we took a sip of our beers. One thing mum didn’t know about these guys was they had golden hearts and behind those serious (and may I add beautiful) faces were two very kind and carrying men.
“I hate to break this happy moment but I will be leaving tonight.”
“Why?” Sam asked me.
“I have to; the police probably think they are hunting a serial killer. I have to skip town before something bad happens.”
DEAN’S POV
When I heard those words come from her mouth it was like someone punched me in the face...again.
“But why do you think something will happen?” I asked her as I chugged the whole bottle within seconds.
“It always does. Plus I can’t risk it.”
“Risk what?”
She looked annoyed, angry almost. She took a deep breath and shifted in her seat before responding. “My hunger will come back and there are no bad people to feed on at the moment in this town.”
She then excused herself and went to her room to pack. I couldn’t help but stare at her perfectly shaped ass.
“Dude!” I heard my brother say.
“Yeah?”
“The way you were looking at her and now checking out her ass. You’re more than obvious man.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Sam.” I lied. God, he knows me so well, I hated it sometimes.
“Whatever you’re thinking just remember, she can kill you.”
I mean he was right, but I didn’t care. She hasn’t even touched me and I was so infatuated with her.
“If she does, I’m gonna die a happy man.” I said and left the room.
“She was staring first; I’m just doing the rest of the job. Plus if I die, I will go out with a bang.” I thought to myself before knocking.
YOUR POV
When I opened the door my heart stopped working. My hunger went through the roof as I tried my best to keep my composure. “Yeah?”
“Can I ask you something?” Dean asked after shutting the door.
“Shoot.”
“Are you hungry? And by hungry I mean are your succubus sensors tingling?”
Where was he going with this?
“If you put it like that yeah, king of.”
“Why don’t you feed on me?”
I didn’t really know how to answer his question at first because I was in shock. It was like he was wishing a death sentence. Was he aware I was checking him out?
“Dean, what has gotten into you?”
“You.”
“But-“
“Look all I’m sayin’ is if you’re hungry I’m here. You don’t have to skip town just for food.”
“I don’t think you understood me properly. I CAN KILL YOU DE-!”
I couldn’t even finish my sentence; the idiot grabbed my face and cut me off with a kiss. Describing the kiss would be like describing the scent you smell every time you “borrow” your boyfriends hoodie; impossible, but all the synonyms for beautiful and freaking hot could do. He kissed my lips gently before his tongue went in my mouth. I wrapped my hands around his neck to pull him closer as my hunger went full swing and I started to feed. I could feel his energy, so lustful and strong entering my body as I started to feel stronger but even hornier. I was going for it slow, thank god for mum, I could control the urges. I shoved Dean onto the bed and sat on his lap, my forehead against his.
“You’re crazy Winchester.”
“Hey it’s not my fault you’re obvious when you stare.”
Oh…
“Shit.” A wave of embarrassment went through my whole body but left right after Dean pressed his lips onto mine again.
“Yeah, I noticed.” He smirked.
“How do you feel?”
He didn’t look like people would usually when I would touch them. He was biting his lower lip not keeping his gaze off me, slowly driving me mad.
“Freaking amazing.” He whispered and went for my neck. He left kisses upon kisses as my hips naturally started to grind against his already hard and may I say BIG dick. He was gentle, yet a little bit rough. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the pleasure I was feeling before it hit me…
“Dean?!”
“Yeah?” He responded between kisses.
“We can’t fuck stupid. I’m gonna kill you.” I have realized just how much sex with me was deadly when I had a one night stand few weeks ago. I needed healing I had pneumonia and well he was hot. He took me home after few drinks and well…we slept together. Not wanting to kill him I stopped right as I was about to cum, but that wasn’t enough. He was unconscious and his heart beat was slow. I took him to hospital where he spent the next 2 weeks; he barely made it out alive.
“I know.” Dean said. “I just want to do this.” His strong hands cupped my ass as he lifted me up and threw me onto the bed. He took my jeans off as my mind went into a fog. God he was really doing this.
DEAN’S POV
If I couldn’t have her whole, I could at least give her something she probably never had without fear, a freaking orgasm. I didn’t want to waste any time and make her wait. I started slow, kissing her inner thighs around her panties, heating her whole body up. Her whole body was covered in shivers as I kissed her though her black panties.
“You know I can’t feed on you like that Dean?” She managed to say.
“Sweetheart, I’m multifunctional. I can be more than just dinner.” I told her and she laughed. God, that smile!
“Good to know.”
She was so mesmerizing it was unreal.
I took her panties off and soon she was too busy moaning my name to say anything else. I was licking and biting every inch of her when in a split second she grabbed my hair and was pulling hard. I took me by surprise but I loved it.
“Fuck, more. Ugh use your fingers…Please.” She begged me.
I was as obedient as a dog my two fingers went in her while my tongue was licking her sensitive clit now. I knew she was close. Her grip on my hair got stronger as her thighs were squeezing my head a little.
“FUCK I’M CLOSE!” She screamed. I started pumping faster and harder, adding the third finger before she completely lost it.
“DEAN!!!!” She screamed one more time before coming all over my fingers and mouth. She tasted so fucking good, so sweet and just…fuck man. I couldn’t even describe it. I climbed on top of her to kiss her and boy she was a mess…a beautiful mess. Before I could think of something to say she grabbed my face and kissed me hard.
“Thank you.” She told me. “I’ve never had an orgasm like this holy shit.”
“The pleasure is all mine, (Y/N).”
“In my whole life as a freaking demon of sex I have never came across a man or a woman who can do what you just did.”
“Were they all bad?”
“After Kyle…yeah.”
“So I guess I’m the chosen one.” I joked.
“Yeah, but you know I still have to leave this place.”
Damn reality check again. She must have noticed the face of disappointment and sadness I made right after she told me that because she kissed me again and explained why. She can never be in a normal relationship; she can never fall in love or be monogamous due to her nature because she will eventually lose control which I understood.
“Hey I can’t stop you, but I sure can give you my number and tell you to call me whenever you’re in town and up for little fun…without sex of course.”
“Not before I return the favor. “ She said and kissed me again.
