Rebecca Welton x Reader

It’s had been two years since you came to play for AFC Richmond’s Women’s Club. And it had been a year and 6 months since you’d started dating Rebecca Welton.

It was fun, sneaking kisses after practice, her ravishing you after you won a game. But it was starting to get more serious and you wanted to go public.

“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours,” Rebecca asked, as you both laid on her couch watching some reality tv show Keeley recommended.

“I don’t know,” You sighed as you fidgeting with the rings on Rebecca’s fingers.

“I think you do know,” You turned your head to face her, and she gave you a kiss. “But you’re just afraid to tell me.”

You nodded in agreement.

“Just tell me.”

You sighed mustering up all your courage.

“I think we’re pretty serious right,” You waited for her to respond.

“Of course.”

“So I was wondering if you wanted to go public,” You looked into her green eyes, trying to calm the doubt in your mind.

You weren’t out yet but it had been assumed by most of the team that you were a lesbian. Mostly because you never brought dates to galas or events and you never would indulge in girl talk about guys. Which it was true but sometime you wished they didn’t just assume.

And you were the first woman Rebecca had ever dated. At first you just thought you were her mid life crisis. Most people buy sport cars and date models. But you just thought she decided to try women. After month three it became apparent to you that, that wasn’t the case.

“Sure,” Rebecca answered turning back to the tv.

“Really,” Your eyes went wide.

“Yes,” Rebecca smiled.

You turned your whole body around, now straddling her.

“I love you so much, Rebecca,” You smiled brightly, leaning down to give her a kiss.

“I love you too, Y/N,” She smiled, as she kissed you.

A few weeks later you came out to the team. There response was warm and welcoming. Though some of them, did stop talking to you. But you understood, you were the captain, and now you’re dating the owner of the club. Shit, if it were you, you’d probably do the same.

“So big game today,” Coach Lasso started to talk.

Ted Lasso was re hired as head coach for the women’s team around the same time you came here.

“That means bring your a game,” Coach Smith said.

Coach Ariana Smith was a 5’3 beast. You’d played one game against her, your first year playing professional soccer in America. A year after that she retired and a year after that she started coaching. Short, and fast she was able to maneuver around the field was grace. But she was the biggest shit talker you’d ever know.

You zoned out going over every play in your head. You all used unconventional methods since Coach Lasso originally coach American Football. And most of the time it worked.

Right before it was time to go out on to the field Rebecca decided to pay you a visit.

“You’re going to play well today,” Rebecca smirked as she gave you a kiss.

“I play well every time,” You joked.

“I know you do, I’m just teasing.”

Coach Smith walked over with the grumpy look that she always wore.

“Hey you better not be distracting my Captain.”

Coach smith was the only one who dared to speak to Rebecca that way.

“I’m not,” Rebecca said pulling away.

And surprisingly Rebecca always let her.

“I’m never distracted coach,” You responded.

Coach smith just gave you a look.

“Well I best be off, I just wanted to wish you good luck, so good luck.”

“Thank you,” You gave her one more kiss before she walked away.

It was the second half of the game. The other team was up 1 and it was looking down for AFC Richmond’s Women’s team. But you knew that there was still time left.

“Melissa,” You yelled.

She looked over as you signed 32 X. It was a play that you came up with. 32 because that was you number, and x because well it sounded cool to you.

She nodded understanding what you meant.

The play was successful earning a goal for your team. You were tied 1 to 1 and for you a tie was going to cut it.

So this time you call another play, one of your best ones. It was a sure fire way to get you to win. As the finally seconds ticked away on the clock, Delaney kicked the ball to you.

You took on deep breath as you kicked it, scoring the finally goal for Richmond. As the announcer said the finally score, you ripped your jersey off. Running around in just a Nike sports bar with your hands up.

It became your signature move, it wasn’t inventive but it made you feel powerful.

You search the owners box for Rebecca and found her green eyes looking at you with pride. An idea popped into your head and you just couldn’t shake it.

So you ran into the crowd, running up the steps to the owner box’s. Hoping over the wall that separated it from the rest of the crowd.

“What are you doing,” Rebecca laughed as you hopped over the wall.

“Coming to kiss you,” You pulled her close waiting for a nod of consent.

And once she did you gave her the kiss of a lifetime. You didn’t even realized the cameras were facing you as you did it. But once you looked up you saw you and Rebecca on the Jumbotron.

“I have to get back, you coming to celebrate,” You whispered.

She just nodded.

“See you later,” you said before jumping back over the wall and running down the stairs.

Roy/Jamie prompt: AU after Keeley sends them both packing when they ask her to choose between them. Instead of getting kebabs they are both still super mad at each other. They go back to Roy and their tempers boil over again. They brawl like in the movie Mr & Mrs Smith, until Roy realizes how much he’s actually hurt Jamie. Then they are making love like Mr & Mrs Smith did right after they stopped brawling.

As soon as one of them really starts bleeding Roy realizes and stops. They are both strong so there’s some damage to them and the house.

He reaches out to Jamie who slaps blindly at Roy, but Roy just grabs Jamie and yanks him into a hug. He starts whispering apologizes and that he doesn’t know how they ended up like this. Jamie pulls himself back and basically thinks that it can’t get much worse if he kisses Roy right now, so he does.

That works incredibly well and suddenly they and ripping clothing off and Roy is pushing Jamie over the back of the couch.

The next morning when Jamie wakes up in Roy’s bed he’s almost positive that Roy will kill him now. As he starts to roll forwards he realizes that Roy’s arm is around his waist.

He’s pulled backwards into Roy, he shivers at how strong Roy still is. Roy moves his hand up Jamie’s chest over the hickeys he left last night and ends up just holding Jamie’s throat.

He pulls Jamie’s head back to see his face. Jamie’s pupils are black, he is fighting everything in his head right now. Roy just smiles and leans to kiss him.

They loose another few hours together.

When they finally make it out of bed they actually talk. They both apologize and agree that it was really stupid, the fight, not the sex. Jamie suggests they see therapists and Roy agrees, they spend the rest of the day on the couch just talking. When it’s night time again and Jamie goes to leave, Roy uses his big boy words and asks him to stay.

I tried to make gif packs in a format more familiar to you with a link to a separate page. However, unfortunately, I did not succeed because of the large format of high-quality gifs.

I want to explain about color processing. Usually, I improve the contrast, brightness and saturation, but leave the naturalness of the film. I don't make the contours too sharp because I like the aesthetic of it looking like a natural image.

Conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett slammed the Supreme Court for making “textual backflips” in justifying its ruling to limit the prosecution of January 6 rioters for obstruction. Friday morning, the Court issued its ruling in Fischer v. United States, which rules that the law against the obstruction of official proceedings applies to only those rioters who “impaired the availability or integrity for use in an official proceeding of records, documents, objects, or other things used in an official proceeding, or attempted to do so,” according to Chief Justice John Roberts’ ruling. The ruling was 6-3, but not along ideological lines. The conservative justices other than Barrett were joined by liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, while Barrett wrote the dissent, and was joined by the other two liberal justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

[...] Jackson concurred, but in her opinion she wrote that she agreed with the ruling based on the law, but was unconvinced that it necessarily applied to many January 6 defendants. She said that would be up to lower courts to decide. “Joseph Fischer was charged with… corruptly obstructing ‘a proceeding before Congress, specifically, Congress’s certification of the Electoral College vote,” she wrote. “That official proceeding plainly used certain records, documents, or objects—including, among others, those relating to the electoral votes themselves.”

[...] Similarly, special council Jack Smith, said that Friday’s ruling will not affect the election interference case against former President Donald Trump, according to the Associated Press. The ruling will affect approximately half of the 50 defendants still serving out their sentences for their roles in the January 6 riots, the AP reported.

In the 6-3 Fischer v. United States ruling on Friday that was largely along the familiar ideological lines (except with Amy Coney Barrett as part of the three dissenters instead of Ketanji Brown Jackson), SCOTUS ruled to limit the scope of the obstruction of official proceedings charges for the January 6th Insurrectionists. The Fischer ruling would not effect Donald Trump.

Coney Barrett’s dissent in Fischer rightly argued that efforts to stop the Electoral College vote count certification qualified as an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.

Just the right shade of drunk that I couldn’t know if he’d remember it or not. And its not like he could tell what we ate at academy. Or in me own home once I had one.

But I still only eat fucking apples. Tried them all, I think. Can tell you which are favorites from that. Granny Smiths are not for me.”

He’d edged back from the rage in his voice when talking about his father. But that just meant he returned to ridiculing himself.

“Like I said, no reason to listen to a word he says. Particularly since I don’t much agree with ‘im bout anything. Once I started though, I’ve just never, never managed to stop.

‘Don’t pass, be the star, caring ‘bout people will hold ye back’.

It jus…he was happier with me when I did what he said, and happier meant a lot less hurting.

But it’s just…it’s just putting that hurt onto someone else? Isn’t it, Keeley?”

And she didn’t want to confirm it, because he was hurting right now and she still cared about him. Loved him in a way she could only do for him. But this is what she’d tried to tell him months ago. And it was the truth. So.

“Yeah, Jamie, that is what it is. I’m not gonna lie to you. But seeing that? Its good, its important.”

“I don’ wanna be like him. I don’t! I wanna be more like I were before all his stupid fucking rules. Fuck. Fuck me.”

“No! No, you’re not. Like him. You’ve done things he wanted you to do, that weren’t good to do. But you said 15 years, Jamie. You were a kid. And I’ve seen you at benefits and signings. You’re so fucking good with kids, babe. You’d never hurt one. Not ever.

And that’s because…people who abuse their family, it’s about control. But you aren’t fucked in the head enough to take that out on someone truly helpless. Even when you turned that hurt on to someone else. You were just trying to find a way for you to have some control back.”

“Not an excuse though.”

“No. But it’s a reason. Oh god, that’s the reason you never wanted me to come round when he was down?”

“Course. I wouldn’ta let him fucking near you, Keels. I don’t let him fucking near anyone, if I can help it. He can’t hospitalize mates if you stop having them.”

“…what? What did you just say, Jamie.”

His face had the dawning horror of someone who realized they’d said too much. Admitted to something they couldn’t take back. And she didn’t know if he was upset that he’d revealed he didn’t have friends. Or that his dad had spread his control out over so many more people.

“Hey, no, don’t need to answer that. God Jamie, I’m so sorry he ever showed back up in your life. Even at my most pissed at you, I’ve never wished anything bad on you.”

“It’s okay, Keels. I know. You’re dead brill. Best thing ever happened to me, honest, and I know I’m lucky we’re still…friends, yeah?”

“Of course, Jamie. We are friends. I don’t let any of my other exes come over to talk or crash my dates with Roy.”

And he honest to god let out the tiniest laugh at that. Just as quickly the quirk of his lips flattened out. He slumped back against the wall, energy fatigued, and went back to looking at the wall.

“Hey, you’re gonna be okay, babe. We’ll get it sorted, yeah?”

“You don’t have to help me sort shit, Keeley. Thanks though. I’m just so tired of it. Of being scared rather than a grown man. All I’ve ever wanted to do was play football, and it’s like he’s turned it into poison. He turns everything to it, sooner or later.”

There wasn’t anything to say to that, though, so she just put her hand back on his shoulder. He’d rested his own hand over hers, for barely a second, when he heard footsteps approaching the door. Heard them before anyone else did. These stood out, loud ones with anger in them he could tell, a skill developed from a childhood of listening for drunken footsteps as a warning system.

His reflexes, trained to be quicker and then quicker still, meant Jamie was already moving as the door slammed open. He pushed off the wall so he was on his knees, upright as possible, putting himself between Keeley and the door.

It wasn’t his father. It wasn’t his fucking da, just Ted and Beard, but his breathing was already sped up anyway. He barely felt Keeley put her hand back on his shoulder, but heard her say softly from behind him, “Hey, Ted.”

“Hey there, Keeley.” Ted responded to her first. Before turning to him. And an angry Ted had only ever yelled at him before, never once tried to hit him. But he hadn’t yelled at anyone else at all, and Jamie was used to being the exception to a lot of people’s rules. He couldn’t get his breathing under control. And he knew Keeley could tell. But she wasn’t scared of Ted. She’d told him that he could trust ‘em.

“Hey, kiddo. Good thinking sending Coach out to help. But I told you to get to the treatment room-”

“Oh. Fuck. Sorry. I didn’t…wasn’t tryin to-“

“Oh, hey, hey, it’s okay, Jamie. I’m not mad at you. I wasn’t trying to keep you from the team. But you’ve got to get checked for a concussion and we need to see if anythings broken.”

“What?”

“Think your nose bone might be broken, son.”

“Its not. Been broke before so I know how it feels. And it ain’t bone, the nose.”

“Well that’s true, it’s cartilage. But all the same I want a team doc to check you over. Can you do that for me?”

“I don’t understand you.”

“Your hear-“

“No, not that. It’s…you and Dani and Sam? You all just…I thought it were an act, yeah? You caring, and shit, bout everyone. Let alone me. Cause that’s not…that’s not how people are.”

And Lasso made a choked off sound, but didn’t interrupt, so he kept going. All this poison sitting under his skin, like he’d just told Keeley about? Had all this venom pouring out his mouth now. Was he purging it? Or using it as a defense. As an offense?

“I could easy spend a hundred years next to a Roy Kent. Know how to absorb anger, or let it fall off, know how to survive it. I don’t have any fucking idea what to do with…with…with niceness!”

“Surely people have been nice to you before, Jamie?”

“Plenty of folks. That all want something of you or from you. Sam a mentor. You a more biddable player.

Keeley’s the only new person I’ve trusted in…years.” She just started lightly rubbing the shoulder she’d been touching, didn’t pause or stumble.

“Cause she said exactly what she was willing to give and what she wanted in return. No tricks.

And she said…”

Ted’s eyes moved to hers, quick and fathomless, before focusing back on Jamie. He realized with an almost start that the boy was trembling. He wanted to put a hand on his other shoulder or pull him into a hug. But the sudden movement, with all this adrenaline and the obvious now, so stupid Ted, the PTSD he had…now wasn’t the time.

“What’d she say, Jamie?”

“That you weren’t playing games with me head. You meant it.”

“I did. I do. I care a lot about you, Jamie.”

“Why’d you send me away, then? Once I started finally listening to you?”

Watsonian vs. Doylist Explanations and Keeley/Jack

God what an awful title. Bear with me.

Here's a quick explainer/refresher on Watsonian vs. Doylist explanations for things that happen in a text. The terms come from the Sherlock Holmes stories. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote them over a broad span of time and did not keep detailed notes, so there are a lot of continuity errors in them. For example, let's say that a character named John Smith in one story is referred to as James Smith in another. Both are Detective Smith, chief of police, and Holmes refers to the events of the first story in the second, so you know they're supposed to be the same character.

A Watsonian explanation is one that Dr. Watson would give, operating within the text's world. In this case, that the man is named John James Smith and sometimes goes by his middle name among friends.

A Doylist explanation brings in the author and external constraints on the text. So the Doylist explanation is that ACD forgot and didn't check back.

Neither way of interpreting a text is wrong. Watsonian explanations produce the best fanfic. But Doylist explanations are sometimes useful as a check on expectations and a reframing to step back and look at the text in a bigger picture.

Looking at the Jack/Keeley relationship, possible Watsonian explanations for why they broke up this week are that it was an impulsive relationship from the get-go without much foundation; class differences being too much; mismatched expectations around behavior codes; Jack being irredeemably evil (not supported by the text).

A Doylist explanation is that Jodi Balfour was only contracted for four episodes and not available for the extensive reshoots the season ended up requiring.

Again, you're not wrong if your reaction is "the showrunners should have taken more care to tell the story within the constraints they were under." They could have! They could have come up with a different flashpoint for the breakup. They could have paced the whole thing better (please @ god they could have paced it better). And they could even have made Jack/Keeley endgame, staying together for good within the text--but if they had done that, Jack would not have appeared on screen again, and it would be a relationship we heard about and didn't see, because JODI BALFOUR WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO SHOOT MORE SCENES AS JACK.

That's what I mean about Doylist explanations helping to temper expectations. It is 100% awesome to write fanfic to fix how this storyline disappointed you. It's the best. Write five novels about Keeley and Jack having the best life ever. Do it now. But keep in mind that what you could get WITHIN THE TEXT was always within certain constraints.

(Deeply ingrained homophobia and misogyny are also Doylist constraints on the text, btw!!!! Can't dismiss those either.)

good things this week:

my BOY my GUY my MAN Joey Daccord had to step up and play two games for the Kraken this week and he did SO GOOD Y'ALL! it was unexpected on two levels, first that it would be him getting the callup instead of Driedger and second that he would actually get the start over Jones, and he made the absolute most of the opportunity—one of the postgame talking heads was a bit of an ass about the first one because he let in four, but Hakstol understood the circumstances (one extremely weird double bounce no goalie could have done anything about, two 6-on-5 situations our guys were not defending well) and sang his praises, and we won anyway. then the second one we lost in a shootout, but the only one he let in during regulation was a rebound off a killer initial save and then he went absolute beast mode in OT, just unbelievable. there's always gonna be a Mike Smith-shaped hole in my soul, but Daccord obviously idolized the guy when he was at Arizona State and plays so much like him that watching him really feels a little like coming home <3

really enjoyed this week's Ted Lasso ep, especially (spoiler warning) the part where Jamie sees Roy and Keeley leaving in two different directions and it's set up to make you think he's gonna go after Keeley to hit on her now that she's single again but instead HE GOES AFTER ROY to ineptly attempt empathy and hugs <333

listened to Debby Friday's debut album four times yesterday and three times so far today, I am so so so so into it

after some disappointing incidents with NHL pride nights, something cool happened with my local junior league team, the Thunderbirds—they didn't have an official pride night planned this season, so the fans just... made one happen themselves! the T-Birds have the only out gay player in the WHL, Luke Prokop, and EVERY SINGLE PLAYER used rainbow stick tape during warmups for this UNOFFICIAL pride night in support of their teammate, AND some of them kept the tape during the game. which, listen, I use Pride tape myself, but only on parts of the stick I don't have to handle the puck with, because real talk it is some crappy-ass tape, and any serious hockey player would know that just from touching it, so these guys were basically saying that supporting their teammate was more important to them than being good at hockey, and I just have a whole lot of feelings okay

Dallas has a goalie named Jake Oettinger whose nickname is Otter and he has lil cartoon otters painted on his goalie mask, which delighted both rocket bae and my mom (both big otter fans)

I started explaining what was going on during a Kraken game to Steph and she was like "I understood the goalie interference part" I'm so proud <3

I cut my hair and it feels very nice to not have all that shagginess on my neck

got two of the other Lammy-nominated anthologies from the library and they're both so impressive! (also both extremely different from each other and from Xenocultivars, doesn't really seem fair to compare us all tbh, but I guess that's just how it goes with awards)

rearranged my room to bring in a comfy chair and in the process found the fucking laptop I was 100% convinced must have gotten stuck in with rocket bae's stuff in storage because I had looked absolutely everywhere, including the place it actually was at least 3 times *eyeroll* but it has been found, hallelujah

made salted millionaire's shortbread and I'm gonna go bring some to a few local friends sometime this weekend, love sharing food with my people :)

My Ted Lasso Re-watch: S1E4 (part 2)

Isaac and Colin actually listened to Roy, under threat of violence. But it's good that they listened.

Eww, that guy who took Nate's drink is just going to be drinking backwash. Ewww.

Okay, I'm not loving the older woman hitting on Jamie. And with his history in Amsterdam, yikes. This actually reminds me of the episode in season 3 of Supernatural where Sam got hit on by an older woman, and the entire time he was so uncomfortable because of her unwanted advances. This type of thing always makes me uncomfortable.

Ted is occasionally wise, and sometimes it's just his natural folksy charm.

Ted meets Rupert for the first time and sees through his persona. Most people don't see past the persona of a manipulator, believe me, I've had my own Rupert in my life. They present a good front to the public, but behind closed doors they are brutal, cruel, and controlling. They find your weaknesses and exploit them for their advantage to tear you down. It's been 9 years since I got away from my Rupert, and I'm still dealing with what he did. Rebecca has a long way to go before she is properly free from him. She deserved better.

It's for charity Rupert, why does it matter if Keeley is spending her money to go on a date with Jamie? £25k is a huge amount for charity, be happy.

The bidder in the green dress is Keeley Hazell, who co-wrote an episode in season 3. She plays Rupert's new girlfriend who he cheated on Rebecca with.

Rebecca is sort of warming up to Ted, or is at least grateful for him comforting her when she is vulnerable. The difference between Ted and Rupert is night and day.

I glad Ted knows who Robert Smith is. Shows he has listened to The Cure at some point. If you haven't seen Robert Smith's tirade against Ticketmaster, you're missing out.

Roy is at least trying to do better with Jamie. And Jamie does reciprocate. Their relationship is season 3 was one of the highlights of that season. Especially in Amsterdam.

Ted knows Rupert tried to sabotage Rebecca, that's why he made a surprise appearance at the gala. He wanted to take pleasure in her pain and misery for leaving him, for not being under his control anymore.

Ted is just a nice enough person not to accuse Rupert in public, because he knows that he can deny it, turn it around, and deflect the attention back on to Ted.
