after re-reading the lost agent arc, i'm a lot more emotional this time around then i was when i first watched it. perhaps it's because kūgo means more to me than he did initially. i first wrote off the lost agent arc as something almost like canon filler in a way, because it was so short and didn't seem to have lasting consequences (keep in mind, i haven't finish tybw nor have i started the cfyow novels) and overall felt like it didn't fit very well. and my opinion that it was rushed still holds true for me, and i wish certain things did get more time for expansion. the arc is incredibly overlooked and forgotten about, but after spending the afternoon reading it and experiencing it again, i definitely have a lot more appreciation than i did. the ending of it made me quite sad, honestly

Ichigo narrows his eyes meanly. Kazui calls out like a little town crier, in case the neighborhood's hard of hearing, "Assbutt!" and brandishes his drawing with both hands. -- daemon AU -- "... I suppose. But it's hard to find a way to talk to you without the... honor guard." Wow, the doubtful little pause in the middle, the harmless smile afterwards. The slow glide, in and out, of the tigress' claw tips, half-hidden behind her curled tail. "You could have come up while they were around," Rikuto says. "We really couldn't have," the tigress says, regretful. They stare at each other. Ichigo throws his bag, then hops across the gap after it. "Oh, they're nice." He bats dust off his pants legs, casually. "Well, most of them. Probably. Okay, where's the door?" The guy blinks, a little thrown. "You just got here and you already wanna leave? You don't have a problem with heights, I hope." Her Ichigo pauses to scowl at the guy, who replies with a smarmy grin, full of teeth. Rikuto snorts. Guys with big cats are all assholes, it seems. "Just sit down if you're scared," the guy drawls, playful mockery in every syllable. "I'll even lend you my jacket so you don't dirty your pants." It's a little satisfying to see the smarm slide off the guy's face to be replaced by seriousness. "Right. I'm Ginjō Kūgo. This is Yozora. We arrived in town last week, and... Ah, there's no good way of saying this." His brow knits into concern, worry. "How come you're surrounded by Fullbringers and not a one of them taught you how to do it?" -- pack fuckening epilogue -- He hopped over a tree trunk, and promptly caught his toe on it and tripped when his sleeve started ringing out of nowhere. His foot landed with a wet squelch in something unidentifiable; he plunged his hand down his sleeve to grab the spirit flip phone Urahara had inflicted on him somehow. "Yeah? -- oh, gross." "Who are you calling gross, little boy?" -- Oh. He stopped walking, phone pressed to his ear and one foot still up, trying to flick the weird mush out from between his toes. "Rukia? They called you in?" Just hearing her voice made his shoulders relax, his back straighten. He'd been feeling so -- "I came with the Captain-Commander." Her voice was all no-nonsense, extra-professional; Kyoraku was probably in the room with her. Ichigo tried not to feel too disappointed. He'd hoped... "Now Urahara-san tells us a garganta just opened and closed, can you confirm?" "Yeah, they just left. Peacefully and with half of my house's entire stock of pillows." He was rewarded with a little 'heh.' "And your estimated time of arrival at the shop?" "Oh, uh." Ugh. Five minutes if he flew, but he didn't want to fly. "Fifte... thirty minutes. I gotta... stuff." Tell me why you're coming back on foot. Are you brooding?" Ichigo spluttered, and shoved a branch out of his face with a little more -- enthusiasm. (Relief.) "What the hell makes you think that?!" "If you were injured you'd say so. You wouldn't make poor Inoue cry thinking of you limping back through rough terrain on your lonesome." "...Mngh."   "Also... Ichigo, I'm an alpha too. 『🌹』 Welp. To say that Yeong-Hui was pretty disappointed about getting stabbed in the middle of the street would... actually be fairly close to the truth. Much as an understatement as it sounds like, they didn’t really seem too receptive to the current state of events - nor did they have any clue how to respond when it came to the nurde’s questions about how violently they retaliated; in fact, they seemed to have little to no memory of the incident at all. They simply sat in their bed, trusting the nurses to be doing the right thing until they could go back home and tend to their frogs again, get back to their life.

At the very least, they shared a room with someone in the hospital; kind of a looker, too, even if whatever he went through did a number on him. They didn’t really like being in too much pain, but again, they seemed only mildly inconvenienced by what happened. They may as well pass the time with a little light conversation, why the hell not?

“Weeeell, shit.”, they spoke up, once the two of them were left alone; or as alone as they could get in each others’ presence. “What happened to you? You gonna be okay, man?”

Jackie was born and grew up in an inland slum of Acapulco. In 1977, shortly after she received a stolen pair of leather boots as a gift from her father, he, her mother, and her younger brother were all killed. Although the proximate cause of this was her father being engaged with fencing goods on the black market, the actual reason was that he’d stolen goods from a local organized gang.

The sole survivor, she would soon after apply for asylum in the United States, and would ultimately be accepted in 1978. Sent to live with relatives in Houston, Texas, she had difficulty making friends and fitting in, and her Fullbring powers developed during this time. While she naturalized in 1983, she never felt she fit in. Immediately after graduating high school in 1987, she joined the United States Marine Corps on a 6-year contract with Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 4300, Basic Combat Correspondent, and was sent for the then-standard 10 weeks of boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. She next went to Camp Pendleton, California for Marine Combat Training, and Fort Meade, Maryland for her MOS school. Finally, she transferred to her first base at MCAS Iwakuni in Japan.

Jackie found the USMC suited her little better than life in Texas had, although she quickly gained an appreciation for Japan itself. She completed a bachelor’s degree on base through testing and in-class instruction and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant (E-5) in 1993. Having encountered and befriended bōsōzoku during her military service due to her penchant for motorcycle riding, and having been offered employment by more well-to-do members who used the activity to blow off steam, she applied for a work visa and took up one of the offers. She worked as a kind of novelty bartender (and bouncer) first in Hiroshima and then later in Osaka. Her fairly rudimentary knowledge of the USMC’s LINE close-quarters combat system developed extensively in this period and she also took up Karate.

In 1998, after completing her five-year work visa, she applied for and was granted permanent residency with eleven years spent in Japan. It was the year after that when she first met Ginjō Kūgo and joined Xcution. After their defeat by Ichigo in 2003 and losing her Fullbring, Dirty Boots (albeit not her Fullbringer powers as she still retained her Soul King shard) she worked for herself until early 2004, when she was brought onboard Y. Hans Enterprises. Officially their Public Relations Executive, in truth she fulfilled Yukio’s desire to look after Fullbringers at large and was the point woman for locating them and providing aid and assistance—saving them the way she herself wished she had been saved.

She kept this up off and on through 2018, when leads began to dry up, and then shifted her role to being Y. Hans Enterprises’ liaison to Karakura. As part of that role, she has occasionally interacted with the Urahara Shōten and occasionally works part-time with Shihōin Yoruichi’s PHANTOM detective agency.
