GOD THE ERIN'S THING WITH BIO PARENTS I'm rereading the series and I just got to Hollyleaf's death in The Last Hope and it makes me so mad how Leafpool is the only one who comforts her. Jayfeather only gets to shake and Squirrelflight is just fucking vibing in the background in a battle patrol. Fallen Leaves is more upset than her. SO mad so mad so mad
MAN LIKE... Please understand that I'm saying this with Leafpool love in my Leafpool heart. But it frustrates me immensely that the books went in the direction they did with the parentage of the three. There's SO much wrong here
The plot seems to believe, just post-reveal, that Squilf has to pretend like she doesn't love them so that Ashfur won't kill them (the fuck??)
As if Firestar would just ALLOW an attempted fucking murderer to hang out in his Clan???
Like, go back and read it, she says, "Go ahead Ashfur, kill them, you won't hurt me if you do. They are not my kits." LIKE??
Ashfur: "Wow I totally believe you! I just tried to murder 3 people including a medcat in cold fucking blood and all of you are witnesses now, but rats! I've been foiled! Fire scene cancelled!"
I remember reading this as a kid and being like "This scene sucks. Ashfur would never. Squilf loves her children. 1000000000 lionblazes kill this man now" and little Bones was SO correct
Brambleclaw ABANDONING HIS CHILDREN is just never properly addressed. He was willing to cover up murder earlier in the book for Holly but the minute he finds out they didn't come out of Squilf he's like "nevermind"
He throws a tantrum for all of OotS and then, only at the end, when Squilf calls out that he's throwing his whole family away because he's mad at her, does he reconsider any of his actions.
I think he's entitled to being upset and having his negative emotions, but NOT in how he ended up treating all these people who have been nothing but adoring and apologetic towards him. But nope, no deeper reckoning with that, Squilf does a Cosgrove ass "Hey! Cut it out!" and that's it.
And Leafpool gets put through this too. Leafpool is now completely and fully considered their mom, comforting them as their parent post-reveal. She didn't raise them and yet it's just considered normal that she's the one with a bunch of emotionally soothing scenes with her biokits
Like... I love the idea of her finally being able to acknowledge something she's hidden for so long. But, these cats never saw her as a mother. She was their aunt and their whole life has been rearranged, the emotions they're facing towards this reveal are nothing but negative. Their "father" has also disowned them, treating their mother like shit, and Squilf is keeping her distance believing this is all her own fault.
The feelings here should be SUPER complicated, and that's really JUICY!! We were ROBBED of something waaaay more emotional because of this bizarre commitment to treating bioparents as always better than adopted ones.
OotS kills meee mannn
OH and don't even get me started on how they needed to make Squilf pregnant with Bramblestar's kits in the end because they don't believe adopted kids are equal to bio ones, but also couldn't commit to making their precious Bramble into a bad person who remained adamant about cutting off all his old "family." Alder and Spark should have been Jessy kits and I'll die on this hill
(and also jessy should have cat divorced him after. and also commit to bramble being a toxic parent.)

ROUND 5 MATCH 16: LINK VS. NICO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link from BotW/TotK faces Nico di Angelo from the Riordanverse. Who do you like more?
Link Propaganda:
"i love this guy"
"I love him so much, okay? He's the only person capable of wielding the Master Sword, bears the Triforce of Courage, and was chosen by the goddess Hylia to protect Hyrule"
"Pretty boy"
"ok so link is like the best character ever imo cause have you seen what he looks like in totk he's so gender and ahhh and he's really cool and I love him so so much <333 and oot link is really cool and he's my whole childhood, and I love skyward sword and wind waker link cause they're so expressive, and I love twilight princess wolf link I just love all versions of link so much<3 only exception is the version from the philips cdi games he's so goofy" (focus on the totk part of this one)
"link is THE Gender Envy icon pretty boy pretty boy with sword!!"
Nico Propaganda:
"autism"
"YOU KNOW WHAT. if autism isn't enough to compel you to VOTE NICO then i will write this.
ok so he's gay & european (like the legally blonde song) and also a goth. we love our goths here on tumblr right?!
first i need to provide you a visual. please imagine a small italian boy. now imagine that small italian boy going through a time machine hotel casino in vegas, some wack crazy traumatic incidents, becoming an alt/emo kid and being so fucking powerful that even gods show a little more respect to him than others...
nico has gone through literal hell TWICE !! one time it was VOLUNTARY !! and all the while he was probably experiencing said hell in its most terrifying form. this shows us his mental resilience and selflessness are incredibly strong traits of his and that maybe he should stop being a reckless bitch but whatever !!!!!!
tumblrinas listen up... nico was the first canon lgbt+ character created by rick riordan in the chb chronicles (i am not counting all the other gods, goddesses, minor deities and other figures of greco-roman myth). he was the trailblazer. his story didn't end in tragedy, but he found friendship and love and family, which in this age of upsetting "bury your gays" media is still quite hopeful to read!!
nico has a sunshine bf who would literally walk through hell with him!! i'm not kidding. this actually happened. i'm sure he's definitely cheering from the sidelines somewhere... please do not let will solace down!!
did i mention nico's the son of hades, god of the underworld?? this means his powers include, but are not limited to, being able to communicate with spirits via mcdonalds happy meals, wielding a sword that rends souls asunder, turning people into ghosts, re-animating skeletons, shadow traveling and being able to read other people's death auras.
these powers and his terrifyingly grumpy personality (in earlier books) have created a reputation famous among the demigods and deities. also he literally summons an entire skeleton army and rises from the fucking underworld with his father, stepmother and step-grandmother (all gods) (how does this work) in tow, inspiring FEAR and PANIC among the enemy lines.
and if that's not enough, he's friends with lizard people, his signature items of clothing are a BIG AVIATOR JACKET + SKULL RING = VERY GOOD CHARACTER DESIGN and his hair canonically smells like rain on stone. just so you know
VOTE NICO VOTE NICO VOTE NICO !!!!!!!!!!!"

DAILY BRAINROT
Since color-coding was a success, it shall continue. :)
I'm back on my Four Swords nonsense because I was struck with inspiration earlier today and wrote out about half of Shadow's chapter of my disability AU. In the book, his physical body is powered by the dark mirror, so I figured it would make the most sense if the cause of his problems was that there just isn't enough magic to power every single part of his body correctly.
Having a body took a lot more work than it did in the past. He was tired all the time, even after he'd managed to sleep through the entire night or day. Eating and drinking were harder than he remembered them being because he had little to no appetite and couldn't remember to do those things without reminders. And the worst part, in his opinion, was that he got sick much more easily than the others. Consequences of having a magically-constructed immune system, Vio had said. Something about how people weren't really meant to be made out of magic.
Changing topics. I read a fic the other day about Sky and I had the realization that technically, if Sky dies, there's nothing preventing Sun from establishing her bloodline. The royal family is descended from the first Zelda, as far as I know, there's nothing that says Sky actually had anything to do with it.
I don't think this is something that would necessarily be obvious, especially to the Chain, but they're not that stupid, so I think they could figure it out. To be fair, most of them aren't important enough to the timeline that anything drastic would occur if they died, but my point still stands.
So now I have this horribly angsty idea that perhaps Sky has some dreams that reassure him that he isn't required for history to remain functional, so when they're in a tight spot he throws caution into the wind because it's either him or someone else going down, and he doesn't think the other person will survive.
Adding on to that, I want to do some fact-checking and figure out if anyone else in the Chain has prophetic abilities because I could make the situation so much worse by giving the someone else dreams about Sky sacrificing himself.
Maybe someone needs to take the angst stick away from me, so I don't accidentally kill more blorbos than I should. /joking
There was this other fic I read about Legend being able to go inside people's dreams, and it was very cool. But the point is that Sky has somewhat... gross... prophetic dreams in it, but they range from "oh no, this person is going to die" to "the milk on the kitchen table is spoiled." This is now my new favorite Sky headcanon.
Sorry I didn’t answer this one last night, I was really exhausted and I wanted to make sure I had enough energy to read all of it!!
Ooooh that does make sense! That’s also really cool and I like it a lot
I was thinkin about that the other day too. I think literally any of them can die at this point with zero consequence except for maybe Time, because Twilight’s existence kinda depends on him and Malon (if Jojo kills any of them I will fall to my knees and scream at the sky and weep)
OW???? I could be so wrong but I think Time also has prophetic dreams…? I think I remember someone saying that somewhere. I’m only halfway through oot and had to stop playing for a bit so I’ve forgotten if he does or not
ALSKDDK SKY GETTING SOME PROPHETIC DREAM BUT ITS JUST “an acorn will fall on your head. you will be powerless to stop it.”
i love messing around with Sky’s dreams, I one time wrote a fic where he saw the future but like, the future of HYRULE (the kingdom) and so he saw the calamity and he watched Wild die. It was Wild’s past but literally everything is the future for Sky since he’s first on the timeline. It’s just fun to fuck around with prophetic shit >:)
THANK YOU FOR THE DAILY BRAINROT!!!!!

9 & 10 for the violence ask game?
9: worst part of canon wc: the sheer amount of characters and how none of them have personalities & the intense focus on thunderclan are the two worst things for me . there are so many characters that COULD have really interesting personalities an COULD have really interesting stories and COULD be from different clans and yet the erins just!!!!!!!!!! dont care!!!!!!!! and i hate it!!!!!!!!!! one piece: the whitewashing of a bunch of different characters in the anime and the.... sexification (?) of nami and robin. robin and usuopp used to have REALLY COOL DARK SKIN and now they are AS PALE AS SNOW its awful. and with nami and robin. MANNNNN nami used to be so cool with her short hair & loooooooved robins mysteriousness and vague androgyny and !!! then. they got rid of it. and now both of them are just sexy girls with the blandest designs ever and i am so upset about it 10: worst part of fanon wc: the intense obsession's with tpb/tnp/po3 and oots. everyone and their mom has read those four arcs and NOBODY ON THIS PLANET HAS READ DOTC/AVOS/TBC/ASC . this might not Sound that bad the earlier books are VERY GOOD i will admit but EVERYWHERE i look there's stuff for lionblaze & hollyleaf & jayfeather & leafpool & squilf & firestar & sandstorm & dovewing & ivepool and like. i love a lot of these characters but like!!! guess what guys!!! there's cats like tree & rootspring & bristlefrost & flipclaw & shadowsight & lightleap & thunderstar & jagged peak & turtle tail & bumble & probably a bunch of other characters that are just as cool and interesting!!!! and theres little to nothing about ANY of them!!! plus all of the SEs and novellas!!! i have NEVER heard ANYONE talk about skyclans destiny or firestars quest or ravenpaws farewell and it SUCKS!!! yall need to read more of these books i swear!!! i know that avos wasn't like the greatest thing ever which is why i assume a lot of people dropped the books but tbc and asc (so far) have been!!! pretty cool!!! quit hiding in the past of nostalgia and childhood memories and learn to accept the future !

Saw the following comment on a WatchMojo countdown of Top 10 Worst Things to Happen to Link in the Legend of Zelda series. You think it's accurate?
The worst thing to happen to Link was Zelda taking his house after BOTW
I'd say that the list WatchMojo provided definitely contains multiple things that are worse than having his house taken out from under him. SUCH AS: Having his arm chopped off in TotK, being forcibly transformed into a Deku Scrub in Marjora's Mask, failing to protect Hyrule 100 years earlier in BoTW, seeing everyone he came to care about on Koholint cease to exist in Link's Awakening, and literally dying in one of the canonical OoT endings. :P Admittedly, I just listed things that happened to four different Links, so it's not one person actually endured all that torment.
HOWEVER... ! I want to take this opportunity to submit my latest findings RE: Link's housing situation at the start of TotK.
I've previously written about how irritated I was that he lost his own house in TotK — and I established that the evidence indicates he isn't living with Zelda in the same house, either. But the fact remains the narrative makes it clear that he's still close to her side pretty much all the time. In which case: Where is he sleeping? Where does he live? I figured he had to be somewhere in Hateno Village in order to remain nearby... and I believe I have my answer.
Tumblr media
If you cross the bridge right in front of what is now Zelda's house, you soon come across...
Tumblr media
...these two modular houses, just over the nearest hill.
In Hateno Village (well… in any occupied village), you normally can't enter any building that isn't currently lived in or being used by some character. You'll see them come and go on various days or times of day, confirming where they live/work. We can enter the left-side house shown here... and sure enough, that house is where Medda lives.
Tumblr media
What about the house on the right? Anybody living there?
Tumblr media
Once again, we can go right inside. There's a single-person bed and some books here, but not much else. What's really interesting is that, no matter how long I waited? Nobody ever came into or even near this house's entrance.
Tumblr media
I think you understand what I'm insinuating: I believe that Link moved to this modular house, one of the two nearest structures to what is now Zelda's residence. It's clearly occupied by somebody (because we can walk right into it), but nobody ever enters except for us. There's a single bed in here for one person. Sure, it looks spartan, but so did our original BotW house before we added more personal touches. It's a shame we can't find those same personal touches in this modular home, though. If this house contained some weapon display frames, that'd REALLY take my theory's evidence over the top.
Even if I'm right, there are still plenty gaps to fill in. Did Link gift his house to Zelda to provide her comfort in exchange for her buying the nearest modular home as a guard station for him? Does he think this house is a piece of crap, and that's why he can buy and arrange a new one in TotK? Draw your own conclusions, I suppose.

since your saying that requests are open mind if I request something spicy with reader and a Zelda (can be any of them) and a pinch of angst?
Doesn't need to be explicit NSFW (I wouldn't be opposed to it tho 👀), something along the lines of reader and Zelda having been friends for a while then they share their first kiss and things evolve from there. The angst comes from reader not being part of the nobility so their friendship with Zelda is already risky and would be frowned upon if anyone else found out, so let alone kissing the princess so intimately and confessing to romantic feelings about her.
hope all that made sense 😅 you see what you change or not if needed, thank you in advance!
Edit: Posted the clenaed up, revised rewritten version on Ao3 here.
Hi anon! Sorry it took a while, I chose the OoT Zelda in the child timeline, changed some details (or interpreted them in my way) but not as much. I wrote Fem!Reader as you did not specify, I hope it's okay and to your liking!
If you are interested in what happens after the ending here, let me know >:3 Maybe I do complete it to the.. ehem... climax, one day.
For Tonight
Pairing: Fem!Reader x Zelda (OoT) Warning: Angst, no comfort. My first shot at something like this too. Still mature content, but not that much of an explicit NSFW. Minors dni. Typo warning. This is NOT proof-read. I am impatient ;-;
You were walking through the palace corridors with a big stack made of papers and books, barely able to see ahead, trying to make your way into the palace library. Where the fuck were the palace couriers to help you when you needed them? You were mumbling to yourself.
In the midst of your internal mutterings, a sudden collision jolted you, causing the contents of your armful to cascade to the ground in a chaotic disarray. Frustration welled up within you as you looked up to see who had been the unfortunate target of your clumsiness, and unsurprisingly, it was none other than Princess Zelda herself.
“Woah, you have such a scary look on your face, please mercy oh the mighty scholar!”
The princess spoke with a feigned shock in her face, then burst out into laughter as she started to help you collect the papers on the floor, much to your shock.
“Zel! What are you doing? What if somebody sees you?” you whisper shouted at her as you scanned your surroundings.
Well, it was just Zel to you, when nobody else was around.
You also started to collect the papers and kept motioning her to stand up. You locked gazes with her for a moment, drinking the sea that was her blue eyes. Your eyes couldn’t help but drift near her cleavage, making a redness creep into your face. You really hoped she thought it was because of your earlier fit of fury. You bit your lip.
She just softly smiled at you, and continued speaking.
“It’s okay, I spoke to Impa and this wing of the castle is cleared due to ceremonial purifications that’s going to take place,” she smirked at you. You facepalmed. That explained why the courier was not there to help you when you arrived. The King was visiting Zora’s domain; it was known that the princess also had “religious duties” due to her ancestry. Since she was practically in charge when the King was gone, she pulled stunts like this every now and then, so you could hang out in peace.
You didn’t even argue anymore as you sighed as you chuckled, you just adored her smile when she looked this happy, the way dimples appeared in her cheeks,  which was a rare occurrence.
The two of you had been inseparable since childhood. From your early days as the daughter of the palace scribe to your current role as the palace historian, you were always there when the princess was receiving her education. You were the closest thing she had to a “classmate”, since she wasn’t allowed to go to school like the rest of the children. The King, seeing how happy her daughter was with having a friend like you, allowed you to attend to her during her studies. Over the years, you were always there for each other, sharing secrets, spending time, learning new things together.
Much to the dismay of the other nobles, of course, especially after Zelda’s 15th birthday. Scholar or not, you were just a commoner that lived in the palace, even worse, in their eyes you even were a bad influence (when you were kids) to the princess, making her sneak out of the palace to play with weird kids.
Hah, as if it wasn’t always her idea in the first place. Plus, Impa always kept a watch on you both.
You were guessing it wasn’t only because of the child shenanigans, but the way you looked at Zelda as well.
Of course, she didn’t have a gloom of air around her back then.
Your thoughts lingered on that vivid memory, etched deep within your soul. It was a day when a forest-clad boy, garbed in resplendent emerald green, had ventured into the palace courtyard. Princess Zelda had watched with unblinking fascination as the Gerudo chief, Ganondorf, exchanged words with her father, the benevolent King of Hyrule.
It was a child, but one bearing an uncanny foresight that sent shivers down your spine even now. He had delivered a grave warning, one that would alter the course of history. And you and Zelda had been there, witnesses to his proclamation.
Since that day, you had been there for Zelda, especially during the trying years that followed. You had watched as her once-vibrant spirit underwent a transformation, first gradually, then with ever-increasing intensity. After that fateful encounter, she had started experiencing visions—glimpses of both the past and future. Visions that didn't seem to belong to her personally from now, but were undeniably hers. A future of horrors that did not happen. She told you all about it as she cried on your shoulders. Your heart broke.
Recalling those turbulent times, you couldn't help but feel the weight of her burden. It was a burden she had borne with grace and strength, even as it gradually eclipsed the cheerful girl you once knew, leaving behind someone who carried the weight of destiny like a heavy cloak. Yet, you still admired her, perhaps even more now, for her resilience and unwavering determination in the face of a destiny she didn’t choose but embraced with unwavering resolve. And even though you knew she could put on a facade of cheerfulness for you, you appreciated the moments when she allowed her true self to shine through the cracks of her burdened existence.
So yes, you were going to shut up and let her do whatever for now.
You had decided to keep a low profile and let Zelda handle her royal responsibilities for now. Ever since she came of age, the palace nobles, and even the King, had become overly sensitive about your friendship with her. You vividly remembered a time when he had nearly reprimanded her for being too familiar with commoners, a far cry from what was expected of a princess. Even if Zelda didn’t realize, the nobles were certainly aware.
After that incident, her schedule became inundated with temple duties. However, given your proficiency as the palace historian, you still found ways to cross paths with her. But the formalities were now taken to the extreme, with a constant presence of chaperones ensuring everyone stuck to their roles. Sneaking into her room late at night or arranging brief meetings between guard shift changes had become the norm. To an outsider, it might have seemed like the meetings of secret lovers rather than two friends trying to share a conversation.
Occasionally, opportunities like this arose when the King was absent, and Zelda took charge of ceremonial affairs. It allowed you to convene in the tearoom of that secluded wing, with Impa discreetly keeping watch to ensure no unexpected guests interrupted your meeting.
_____
“You know somebody is going to notice at some point that those purifications are just us purifying our throats with tea and gossip,” you mused as you brought the teacup to your lips.
Zelda chuckled softly, her eyes meeting yours over the rim of her teacup. How you wanted to be that teacup right now.
"Oh, I'm sure they already have their suspicions," she replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes, as she leaned down a bit more than usual towards you to pick up the piece of sugar. You gulped. "But it's the palace, and gossip is a currency as valuable as rupees. Besides, I think they secretly envy us at our little tea gatherings."
As you laughed in the secluded tearoom, you and Zelda shared a moment of respite from the world outside. The unspoken bond between you had always been a well-guarded secret. The palace's nobles frowned upon your friendship, and your secret meetings had become a necessity to maintain the facade of formality that royalty demanded. If only they knew your true feelings.
Yet, in these stolen moments, you couldn't help but notice the stark contrast between the princess's public persona and the genuine warmth she reserved for you. Outside, she exuded an air of regality, concealing the weight of her royal responsibilities with practiced grace. But with you, there was no need for pretense. She was herself, her true self, a side of her that was never meant to be revealed to anyone else. You didn’t want anyone else to see it either. Her perfectly heart shaped face, deep sapphire eyes and lovely blonde locks.
The tea room's tranquility was disrupted by the knock of Impa, and you knew your time was running short. With a reluctant smile, you set down your teacup.
"It seems our tea time is coming to an end," you remarked, your tone betraying a hint of disappointment. Each time, each time this happened, something cracked in you. One day, it was going to break, you thought to yourself.
Zelda nodded, her eyes holding a mixture of gratitude and longing. Impa was right behind you.
"Until next time, my friend," she replied, a softness in her voice that was reserved only for you. Friend, of course. No way it could be anything more.
___
When the night fell, you finally got back to your room, rejoicing that tomorrow you could finally relax a bit. The King was still away, and Zelda abused her powers once again to make it a “rest day” for some of the staff, including her. She was going to get caught one day.
As you laid back on your bed that night, you shamefully thought back to the moment you dropped the books. The glance you got to her bosom. It wasn’t anything you haven’t seen before, you have seen her plenty of times as the maids were dressing her up, but she would at least be in her corset.
From the panic of the moment and then lured into the sweet conversation, you haven’t thought about it until now.
She wasn’t wearing a corset under that dress. And then in the tearoom she was leaning in a way that-
Oh. Oh.
How dense were you? But that surely wasn’t intentional, was it? She even called you friend.
That didn’t stop you from imagining what you could have been doing instead of drinking tea in that room. Cupping her face, pulling her closer. Making her straddle you on that sofa. A warmth spread to your core. Could have would have should have…
It was unbearable. You wanted to tell her, you wanted to feel her close.
But that would have no future. She had her duties. You would have to leave if it ever came out.
Your hand slowly went down to your thighs under your short nightgown, barely covering your hips, towards your bundle of nerves. You never wore underwear to bed.
And it wasn’t the first time you were doing this as you imagined her. It was going to be another lonely night, where you seek release to sleep, imagining yourself in her arms.
___
Maybe an hour or two had passed after you finally went to sleep. You opened your eyes as you heard your window… getting tapped? As the haziness of sleep was still with you, it took you a moment to realize it was Zelda, in her… Sheikah clothing. You occasionally made fun of her, naming her “Sheik”. You clumsily got out of your bed and silently opened the window, letting her in.
“My my, if it isn’t Sheik,” you teasingly whispered, looking at her figure perfectly highlighted by her outfit under the moonlight shining through your window.
"Ah, hush," she retorted with a playful smirk, removing her mask as she stepped further into the room. The moonlight painted her features with a soft glow, accentuating the beauty that had always captivated you. As she half threw herself on your bed, her legs still touching the floor yet her upper body flushed, you panicked internally, hoping she wasn’t close to the mini damp spot you might have caused on the sheets…A hint of a blush touched her cheeks, partially concealed by the shadows. Her eyes met yours, and for a moment, it felt like time itself had frozen. You decided to not give in to your paranoia, and realizing the gloomy state she is in, decided to try to cheer her up instead.
"Couldn't sleep?" you teased, a playful smile tugging at your lips.
She hesitated for a second before responding, "No, I... I needed to talk to someone."
“You know I’m here for you, always, come on get cozy,” you said as you moved onto the bed as well, making her put her legs up as you leaned to the bedframe and placed her head on your lap. You started caressing her hair as she closed her eyes, as you always did when she felt down. She didn’t know how you were melting inside, to her, it was surely a friendly gesture…
“Is it those weird vision dreams again?” you asked.
The gentle motion of your fingers through Zelda's hair seemed to relax her as she nodded slowly. "Yes," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "They're becoming more vivid, more real. And they're not just glimpses of the past or a future unlived anymore; I feel like I'm living someone else's life in those moments."
You couldn't help but admire how her eyelashes cast delicate shadows on her cheeks as she spoke, her vulnerability drawing you in even further. You'd been friends for so long, and yet, tonight felt different, like the air was charged with unspoken emotions.
"Have you told anyone about this, you know to the priestesses, that they were getting more intense?" you inquired, your thumb gently brushing her cheek.
Zelda sighed and opened her eyes, her gaze meeting yours. "No, I can't. They already think I'm strange enough as it is, with my overindulgence in scholarly pursuits and all."
You couldn't resist a teasing grin. "Well, I happen to like your scholarly pursuits…” Thanks to them I see you a little bit more, you wanted to say but stopped yourself. Instead you continued “They're part of what makes you so..."
You stopped yourself short, realizing you were about to tread on dangerous ground. But Zelda's curiosity was piqued, and she raised an eyebrow. "So what?" she prompted, her lips curving into a small, playful smile.
Your heart raced as you met her gaze, the unspoken tension between you growing more palpable with each passing moment. "So... captivating," you admitted, your voice barely a whisper.
Zelda's smile widened, and she let out a soft chuckle. "Captivating, huh? I'll take that as a compliment."
"It was meant as one," you replied, your fingers still gently caressing her hair. The room felt smaller, the air warmer.
She shifted slightly, now sitting on the bed, her eyes never leaving yours. "You know," she began, her voice a low, sultry murmur, "you have a way of making me forget about everything else when you're around."
Your heart skipped a beat, and you leaned in closer without realizing in the dimly lit room. "Funny," you whispered, "because you have a way of making me want to forget about everything else too."
Zelda paused. Did you go too far? The residual wetness between your legs from an hour ago was making itself known once again as the distance between you and her was a little bit less than before. You were painfully aware of the short nightgown you were wearing, rubbing your now slightly more sensitive nipples. Zelda visited you like this every now and then but something was different today.
Something was different tonight.
“Indeed, there are things I’d rather forget about, especially now…” she repeated in a whisper. You became aware where her gaze was. She was staring at your… lips? Her cheeks were a lovely shade of pink, making her look even more enticing than she was. One of her hands very discreetly and hesitantly found itself near your leg. Too close.
The atmosphere in the room was electric, charged with a potent mixture of desire and longing. Zelda's presence, her nearness, was intoxicating, and you couldn't deny the magnetic pull between you two. With her hand inching closer to your leg and your lips mere inches apart, the tension in the room reached its breaking point.
You both knew that crossing this line would forever change your friendship, but it felt inevitable, like the culmination of years of unspoken emotions.
“Zel…” you whispered as you slowly felt her gaze on every single part of your body, making you shudder. “We.. we can’t, you are the princess and…”
Zelda's fingers, now just a breath away from your leg, trembled slightly. Her eyes met yours, and you could see the turmoil of emotions within them. The vulnerability and longing were unmistakable, but so was the understanding of the complexity of your situation.
“Tonight, I'm just a Sheikah warrior…” the words somehow got out of her, you could feel her tears coming, barely audible. Your heart shattered, and as Zelda's hand brushed against your thigh, whatever self restraint you had then had just been thrown out of the window.
You closed the distance between you, and pulled her hesitantly into a soft kiss. Her lips were so soft, inviting and warm and she actually responded eagerly. Her fingers were tracing delicate patterns on your thighs as your tongue traced a gentle line on her bottom lip.
The world outside faded away, leaving only the two of you, lost in a sea of sensations and emotions.
When you finally broke the kiss, your breaths were heavy, and your hearts pounded in unison. Zelda's eyes met yours, and in that moment, all the unspoken words and hidden feelings were laid bare. You didn’t want to talk, you didn’t want this moment to end. She understood.
Because when tonight ended, you didn’t know if you could still face her again and live in the castle, knowing you would never be able to have her in the manner you wanted.
She would be married to another noble to produce more royal heirs, and you would slowly wilt away in the royal libraries.
You wouldn’t be able to live like that.
So for tonight, you just wanted to feel her. Drink in her essence.
For tonight, you clung to each other, finding solace in the knowledge that, in this stolen moment, you could be together, if only in the most intimate and ephemeral of ways.

FSR rambles PT 4
Over explaining the decisions in my own comic once again. UwU
Tumblr media
Smth fun about these pages is ZELDA. My lady.
Something I'm not sure was how well this portrayed that this was shortly after they put the sword back (like maybe a year at most?)
I kind of like to think for FSR at least, they were all around 13-15 during the events of the manga (This isn't my opinion tbh, though in the bonus pages they buy child tickets for the theme park so they aren't canonically adults.)
Link's old enough to drink in FSR so he's at least 21.
(I've never really liked the idea they're YOUNG kids during FS it just lends itself better to FSR specifically. I really write them however old I want for whatever scenario I'm writing because Link's as fluid as a Vocaloid when it comes to making fan works and cannon is my bitch. Writing them as adults during the events of the manga usually lends itself to MORE writing opportunities but not for FSR. I don't really give a shit what other people decide to do when making fan works either.)
You'd also notice the 7 years it takes FS Link to pull the sword is a reference to the seven years Link misses during OOT.
Anyways onto the page itself: Zelda's a sweet girl who cares deeply about her childhood friend. Link means a lot to her and she makes time for him. He waits for her too. Zelink shippers I got you lol.
Something I always found WEIRD was how Link doesn't talk in the pages after he reformed. That's so odd to me. The fan "theory" It's basically cannon in BOTW/TOTK at least Link's selectively mute. That Link's mute is also something I took inspiration for FSR Link.
So Link doesn't respond to Zelda verbally but she still makes the effort to talk to him.
Shadow Link is very disapointed he can't get hugged by the princess. Because as he stated earlier in the comic he loves her. Zelda addressed him too so she tries to include him.
Tumblr media
This page shows off just how gradual the curse was: So funny enough at the START of the comic it was actually going to be explained how Link utterly deteriorated but I decided to add that later. (Wanted to get to funny shenanigans with the boys so I put it off)
It started with him just hearing whispers, then full voices then the what I call "Headspace" fully appeared.
Blue mentions liking Zelda's hugs Haha "Where's my hug???"
Vio just says Zelda's name, Vio's relationship with Zelda is something I'd love to expand upon later down the line.
Green's more focused on food oof.
Red's just happy to see Zelda.
Tumblr media
Green was right about being hungry, so Zelda invites him over for DINNER-
Shadow Link's still just vibing.
Zelda lifting Link up in this panel just shows she's there for him.
Tumblr media
Link is just dealing with the fact he can hear them by himself. Also dad is still alive.
Tumblr media
Lol he's actually making his dad proud which was something he didn't do often before the OG book.
Zelda hanging out with Link and his father kind of shows them as a family.
Shadow Laughing in the bg but he's away from the rest.
Tumblr media
So the captain died in a fight, and Link blames himself for it because he can't think straight when there's 4 people constantly talking.
Daddy's demise was really the start of the snowballing downhill for him.
Tumblr media
Lol. So Vio's daddy issues are apparent for the SECOND time in the comic. He was uncomfortable even bringing up Link's dad before and this is partially the reason why:
Vio's the only one not crying or overtly emotional about their dad dying.
But something to consider is if he's truly talking to Link or himself in that panel. Because the man is still SHOOK. We have the liberty of SEEING Vio here, but Link doesn't.
So he takes this statement very poorly because:
Well, Vio's seeming "no shits given" attitude is unsettling enough coming from an outside source but that IS apart of Link.
A part of him, seemingly doesn't care his own father kicked the bucket and that's scary to him.
Tumblr media
I think anybody would have lost it at this point.
Too bad Zelda saw Link screaming his lungs out at his father's grave lmao. Poor man.
Tumblr media
Bro can't do anything but plead for Zelda to help him at this point. She's really the only person he feels he can turn too anyway.
Our girl comes in clutch with them hugs.
Tumblr media
This was the conformation Link was actually not speaking in the comic Felt like I had to outright state it cause I wasn't sure if people would notice it otherwise.
Something I REALLY wish was a thing in Zelda manga:
Zelda and Link BOTH lose their parents. Usually their mothers.
And we never get any sort of bonding over that. And I find that a complete waste of potential.
I'd like to dive further into that with FSR or some other Zelda work I do because: HOLY SHIT THEY COULD BOND OVER THEIR LOST PARENTS????
Also Zelda's unfortunate phrasing here with "You can talk to me" she means just, that he can confide in her in general lol.
Tumblr media
He's still struggling to actually speak. Poor guy.
Tumblr media
While keeping him from doing knight duties kept him PHYSICALLY safe it was just another thing he lost to the curse Vaati laid on him.
Tumblr media
So the obvious: Zelda had to watch the person she cares about most completely fall apart before her eyes and she couldn't do shit.
They weren't even aware this WAS A CURSE from Vaati mind you. They were completely in the dark trying to solve this.
Something horrific about this situation you might have also considered:
Not only did Zelda have to watch Link deteriorate but so did Shadow Link.
Shadow Link couldn't even offer much comfort. Zelda could offer physical comfort and attempt emotional comfort but Shadow was completely fucked.
And with the new context of "Link was mostly mute" the fact he wasn't actively TALKING to Shadow Link makes a lot more sense.
Tumblr media
Still didn't make that fact any less painful in the moment.
Shadow literally could not participate, was isolated and lonely and had to watch someone else slowly get isolated and lonely and couldn't even help.
Tumblr media
Link and Shadow Link literally felt the same way and could not help each other even though they were right next to each other all that time.
Tumblr media
Also with the new context of what Link was going through, Shadow's persistence to be there for Vio starts to make a whole lot more sense: He can actually DO something now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vio's just stating the obvious at this point and his broken record nature really pissed Link off.
I'm sure you noticed what he wore color wise matched his emotions lol.
Vio technically is 100% right: They think Gannon is in the sword. It would literally be INSANE to pull it knowing that.
But Link's kinda at the point of not giving a shit.
Zelda would get hurt no matter what his "solution" to the problem ended up being.
Shadow Link trying to cheer Link up by reminding him he's there is so sad. Mghhhh
Tumblr media
And for the first time in the flashback we actually have Link fully acknowledge Shadow Link's presence.
Vio was outright in denial the man was still alive and didn't want to acknowledge his existence so Link fully embracing Shadow Link here was a big moment between the two of them.
Tumblr media
Shadow Link started to figure out what the man was planning but couldn't do squat about it. (He also couldn't communicate with the 4 or HEAR THEM.)
Link shows up in the head space! :D
His words imply he wasn't SURE he could properly communicate with Green like this alone...Which is no surprise considering Vio thinks how odd it is they were able to do that in the first place.
I kinda scrambled to think of what to have him look like hah. Ended up with him wearing white. Since white is the lack of color, white reflects all wavelengths of light so it literally kinda REJECTS color. (Apposed to Black which absorbs light, which funny enough his pants are black...)
And it symbolizes rebirth, peace stuff like that.
It can also symbolize death but we're ignoring that one lmao.
His nails are all the colors + Shadow Link too.
Tumblr media
Lmfao when you gaslight yourself.
Okay in all seriousness the Link lays down just how DIRE the situation is since the other 3 don't seem to be quite aware.
And the "Promise" Green made to Link is what had Green so shook at the start of the comic for.
Tumblr media
And the weight of the line "Can I trust you?" really sinks in as we'll see.
Tumblr media
Link's kinda spooky haha. You can tell he wasn't sure Green was going to help him but that's quickly overtaken by how overjoyed he is Green is for sure on board.
One of my favorite panels from this batch is how happy he is. He's so relived he can finally just rest.
Tumblr media
Green can't though. The crushing weight of keeping everything "Okay" is a heavy burden to bare and Dark Link spits those words right back into Green's face, and just holds him.
Green doesn't seem to hate the hug as much as Vio did hah.
Green doesn't even seem to acknowledge his presence while Vio not only NOTICED but was actively terrified of him to the point of trying to grab his sword.
He also mocked Vio more throwing Vio's own words back in his face, but just repeats what Link said to Green.
How. Odd.
And that's all for this batch. Hope ya come back to read my rumbly thoughts about my own comic.

hey, do you know where it was mentioned that botw link pulled the master sword at 12? cuz i've heard a bunch of people treat it as canon, but i cant remember seeing it anywhere?
I don't think that it was explicitly stated in the game, (though it's implied that Link has had the sword for a decent amount of time before the calamity rose) but in creating a champion (the botw concept art book) it says this
It is said that the legendary Master Sword can only be wielded by a hero chosen by the sword itself, and its whereabouts had long been a mystery. The details of how Link obtained the sword a hundred years ago have been lost to the mists of time, but since he was in possession of it for a number of years prior to becoming a Champion, he was likely around twelve or thirteen years old when it happened.
which is where the specific of 12 comes from, I think people latch onto 12 specifically bc it's younger but also it's about 5 years before the calamity which feels about right to me lol. 12 is also the age that WW Link got the sword and thus said to be when OOT Link got it. Though with that guy it's hard to pinpoint ages, he could've also been nine? idk. 12 just seems to be the special age for destiny-bound sword kids I guess.
For botw Link specifically, it makes sense to be earlier as he's literally been kicking ass since he was six (Mipha's diary mentioned this one). So maybe because he was so advanced at such a young age Fi decided to lure him in early to have plenty of time to prepare for the Calamity.

And here we are! Took long enough, I really thought this happened much earlier in the arc.
Now the Jay’s Wing subplot is easily my biggest grievance with Po3-OotS as a whole. Not only do we waste a lot of pages for a subplot that adds absolutely nothing to the greater scope story, but the mere fact that the Erins are treating this as yet another excuse to stop writing their own damn character as blind actively hurts their messaging and their story. It’s my firm conviction if they were doing this past life regression plot, Jay’s Wing should’ve been blind and I’ll explain why.
The function of the Jay’s Wing subplot, aside from throwing useless lore at us, seems to be mostly to present Jayfeather with a vision of his ideal life. He has a girlfriend, he can do the job he likes instead of the one he resents, etc. In particular in OotS when we touch on it again, it is presented as a temptation that Jayfeather must reject in order to return fulfill his destiny (even if Rock ultimately yanks him back to the present without really giving him a choice). But think about it, what does it say if in this ideal life he’s sighted? What does it implicitly say about the source of the unhappiness in his life?
If he were blind in this life as well, the main difference accentuated between the past and the present would be much different: the lack of military conflict which permeates Clan life. Repeatedly as I’ve been reading through, I’ve been collecting passages (1, 2,) where Jay, Holly, and Lion demonstrate the territorial and interventionist attitudes of the Clan. Jay in particular showed himself very early on to be quick to advocate for a war of aggression on their neighbors.
Jaypaw getting to experience his ideal life in a less-conflict ridden society may just be the push he needs to begin challenging these ideas. And really that’s ultimately what held him back from becoming a warrior, that difficulty in actually getting involved in the conflict that defines the Clan system. Let’s not forget he’s shown himself a pretty competent hunter, what little training he had considered. Not to mention how it’s explicitly pointed out how because of the tunnel tradition the ancients have more experience teaching even their sighted members how to navigate in darkness.
If he came back from the past life regression flashback with a new appreciation for peace this page waster of a subplot could actually contribute something of value to the arc. Imagine if this experience gave new meaning to his vocation as medicine cat, giving him the drive to search for a way to use his religious authority to reshape the system. Imagine how this would interact with my suggested rework of the Sol plot where they work together for their cult schtick, having Jaypaw join with good intentions but being torn between his pull to do good and Sol’s pull towards abusing this new power. Imagine if this put him at odds with his siblings, the warriors, who through the events of Dark River only grew more entrenched in Clan attitudes.
That’s another important point, I think this plot should replace the Fallen Leaves stuff in Dark River. Jaypaw’s perspective of his own disability shifting as he sees that in a different society he could’ve thrived pairs nicely with the Cinderpaw breaking her leg subplot and the arguments he has with Leafpool about it. In this hypothetical version of events, what would help them navigate the tunnels rather than Fallen Leaves’ ghost, it’d be the lingering memory of the past life regression which would help Jaypaw navigate the tunnels on his own. Thus we preserve the role he has in this book as a supporting character while the main plot keeps the focus on Lionpaw and Hollypaw’s plots about learning Clan loyalty.
In short, while in the canon version it’s a pretty big waste of page count, I think the Jay’s Wing plot could’ve been salvaged. It could’ve really added to the story and the hinted at themes later chucked out the window about the Three being pivotal to destiny and having more agency over it than the average Clan cat. It’s just a shame it was squandered in the hands of the Erins.

So, does Harestar pick a different deputy or…
I cannot stress enough how much I do not want to see Crowstar in-canon and I hate him :/
Crowfeather' Trial: "Look at this cringefail wet dog. Look at how much he sucks. Look at how he has never considered another person in his life and would flounder in any position of authority. Anyway he makes up with his son because Breezepelt actually was fine all along (LIVE BONES REACTION) and Crowfeather can totally be a good deputy now"
Breaking my femur and sucking the marrow right out of it. Breezepelt very much chose to do what he did and NO it wasn't completely a cry for help, he was an adult and responsible for his actions. Crowfeather's abuse was a contributor to it, yes, BUT this book discards all of that because Crowfeather is popular and soooo marketable
Breezepelt should have continued to be a problem until HE was able to reach conclusions about his behavior. Like, a real redemption arc or something?? You know?????? His crappy dad shouldn't have been able to apologize Breezepelt out of being a problem jesus christ
And Crowfeather never demonstrated ANY behavior that looked a smidge like leadership quality, until he BECAME deputy. He isn't charismatic. WindClan doesn't like him. He's selfish and wrapped up in his own head. His entire personality changed, that's not "growth" that's just writing a new character
but ugh. They did that, and we are DEFINITELY going to get Crowstar, and I will be screaming into the sunset.
So I feel obligated to it :/ I'm targeting some fixes though;
Crow does have a reputation as StarClan Blessed for the Journey and leading them to their new home
From a much earlier point in time, Crowfeather is shown as having friends and not being completely incapable of being social (Gorsetail is at least one of them)
I want to push up his maturation to be after the secret is revealed.
Now that it's out, he dramatic about his exposed love of Leafpool, even declaring in front of his wife that he still loves her.
Onestar puts his foot down and says, "You porked a Cleric, you won't shut up about it, get out of my Clan for a month"
So instead of him being a total piece of work until just after OOTS, he is visibly improving and working on it earlier.
Though, still snappish, somewhat selfish, and not ready to be in power unlike Harespring.
In AVOS, Crow will also be part of the rescue party. VERY important.
In fact that's so important let's zoom in on that;
Current lineup of the "Defy Onestar to rescue Kin cats" party:
Brushblaze
Harespring
Crowfeather
And I'm thinking to just toss two younger WindClan cats here to give them some good setup for future arcs, since canon WindClan is lacking interesting background dudes
They are explicitly defying Onestar together. He put up an embargo on the Kin and they rejected that to save Sun, Furze, Heather, and Breeze, along with any others.
So TL;DR, BB!Crowfeather is getting some big changes in anticipation, because I don't like canon Crow.
My ideal would be Crow on kitchen patrol tbh BUT leaders are a really big change, which I try to avoid for modern main arcs.

Warriors Analysis 2: A Breakdown of the Crow/Night/Breeze Family Dynamic
I said I would do it, so here we are. The big doozy. For this one, I’m going to putting all of the sourced scenes in a linked google doc, because I just don’t want to make this post a million miles long. Instead, for this post, I will sum up all of the conclusions made after reviewing every scene involving the family from Po3 through OotS, with other relevant information from other books included.
Context of this one: I’ve watched (and participated in) a lot of debate over this family. Just about every single argument I’ve seen tends to:
1) rely on a person’s opinion of a character overall to how they feel about the family (”I found Nightcloud annoying” often goes along with “Nightcloud is equally bad of a parent” or “Breezepelt was a bad person so I don’t sympathize with him in the family situation”)
2) misremember canon
3) rely on a person’s headcanons of what actually happened to shape their judgement of the family (”Nightcloud spoiled Breezepelt and told him Crowfeather is bad” when there are zero canon scenes of this happening)
Some ground rules: I’m relying on breaking down the canon scenes in the books. I am NOT inserting my own thoughts or beliefs as to what happened behind the scenes. If there’s anything bordering on that (”this behavior implies X”), it’ll be clearly stated that it’s an interpretation. I ask that if you want to comment or debate this analysis that you do the same. People’s headcanons shaping how they remember the family is the thing that frustrated me enough to spend hours digging this up. As a personal request, please don’t use this post to say “Nightcloud still sucks and I hate her”/”Breezepelt still sucks and I hate him”/”neglect isn’t abuse” - the latter is definitively incorrect and is upsetting to hear as a survivor of abuse. “X character still is bad” just takes away from the point of this - which is not to say “Breezepelt is a good person”, but PURELY to breakdown the family dynamic. With that out of the way, let’s GO:
After looking at literally every scene involving Breezepelt, Crowfeather, and Nightcloud and analyzing the ones that involve or mention them as a family, here’s some key points. The scenes that back these points up are included and detailed in this doc.
Breezepaw is introduced to us as a bit aggressive and rude, and his mentor, Whitetail, wishes to Crowfeather that she would teach him manners (earning her no response from him)
We first properly see Nightcloud during the dog attack in The Sight, when Breezepaw returns from checking the barrier. Breezepaw reports that there is no damage, and Crowfeather immediately questions if he actually checked all the way around. Breezepaw tells him “Of course!”, and Nightcloud says that Crowfeather should trust his son more.
This suggests Nightcloud is ready to defend Breezepaw whenever. However, as ThunderClan is leaving, Breezepaw mutters that WindClan can manage on their own. Nightcloud immediately scolds him and compliments Lionpaw for saving Heatherpaw during the battle.
Later, at the daylight Gathering, Lionpaw and Breezepaw are buried underground. Crowfeather and Nightcloud help dig them out, and Breezepaw is not breathing when he comes out. Jaypaw has to pull dirt out of his throat to save his life.
Leafpool says to Crowfeather that she would “give [her] last drop of blood to save [his kit]”. Nightcloud sharply retorts that “our kit was lucky that Jaypaw was here”.
Nightcloud carries Breezepaw away from the scene “like a kit”. Crowfeather offers to help, but she carries him on her own. She does not push him away/force him away/shout at him, she literally just chooses to carry him. Nightcloud spends the rest of the daylight Gathering curled around Lionpaw and Breezepaw and keeping them resting.
We learn these things from the Sight: Breezepaw and Crowfeather seem to have a tense relationship, but that isn’t fully developed. Nightcloud is willing to defend him from Crowfeather’s doubts, but notably does not defend him when he acts like a punk in front of her. She is bothered by Leafpool’s comment about giving her life for Breezepaw (which I personally find pretty reasonable to be bothered by), but counters by giving her gratitude to Jaypaw. She wants to carry Breezepaw after he nearly dies, but isn’t pushing Crowfeather away or denying him anything like many people claim.
In Dark River, Crowfeather encourages Breezepaw’s bias against ThunderClan, telling him that they “celebrate mixed blood” in a tone that implies it as a negative thing. (It seems implied he does this to get to Leafpool, who is upset by his comment.)
Jaypaw is able to feel Nightcloud’s jealous emotions on a few occasions, but she actually never says anything to Leafpool or Crowfeather about it.
In Outcast, Crowfeather is called to go on the journey to the Tribe. Onestar tells him to take Breezepaw, who has gotten in trouble a few times. Breezepaw makes it very plain he doesn’t want to go and worries that his Clanmates are just trying to get rid of him. Crowfeather wants to go, but “sighs” over the idea of taking Breezepaw. To me, he comes off as disinterested and possibly disappointed that he has to bring him. Crowfeather snaps at Breezepaw for asking to say goodbye to his friends, saying “There isn’t time!” even though literally no one is rushing them to leave. Nightcloud comes to say goodbye, but Crowfeather is distant and doesn’t respond to her.
Throughout Outcast, each POV character has at least one (if not many) moments where they think about Crowfeather/Breezepaw and feel pity for Breezepaw, despite really hating him. Hollypaw especially thinks often about how she appreciates Brambleclaw for encouraging and supporting her, and the apprentices all seem to realize that Breezepaw is angry because his father “doesnt seem to like him”.
When questioning why they have to help the tribe, Crowfeather just tells Breezepaw “You’ll never understand loyalty.”
When they run into Purdy, Breezepaw is pretty rude to him. Crowfeather doesn’t interrupt a single time throughout multiple insults, then reacts by hitting him across the ear without saying anything, which is noted as “a hard blow”.
Breezepaw nearly dies falling off into a ravine after thinking he’s discovered a faster way. Crowfeather pulls him back and snaps at him, expressing no concern for his life. In Eclipse, Crowfeather pointedly does not compliment Breezepaw’s catch of the rabbit, which angers Breezepaw.
During the reveal of Leaf/Crow in the last book, Breezepelt and Nightcloud stand by Crow’s side and don’t publicly turn on him or say anything against him.
This journey gives us a lot of insight into Crow and Breeze’s dynamic. Breezepaw is pretty obviously a little punk throughout this book, but Crowfeather has no healthy way of communicating with him or discipling him. Instead, he snaps at him, hits him, or ignores him, all of which just feeds into Breezepaw’s anger. Nightcloud is not present for any of this and has no way of controlling their interactions here, which could have been a perfect opportunity for Crowfeather to build a relationship with his son if it were true that Night had prevented this.
Breezepelt shows up in Fading Echoes, training in the Dark forest. A few things are made explicit: he is being manipulated by the Dark Forest and Tigerstar’s words have an almost hypnotic effect on him. The cats present egg him on against Crowfeather, feeding into his belief that Crow does not value him. (Side note, I find it really interesting that in this book, Breezepelt has notable value in the warrior code [which encourages his hate towards Crow] and the DF cats encourage this, saying it is “strong” in his blood. Next time we see him, though, he wants to destroy it.)
Flametail randomly thinks about Breezepelt’s family while spending time with Tawnypelt, feeling glad he has nicer kin.
We get the infamous scene where Lion and Breeze fight. Breeze and Crow were both trespassing on ThunderClan territory and Lion caught the prey Breezepelt was about to catch. He intentionally eggs Breezepelt into a fight (rather than just attacking him himself). Leafpool interrupts, asking how Crow can watch this. Nightcloud then shows up and insists Crowfeather has only one son. Leafpool jumps in between them as Breezepelt is leaping for Lionblaze, and she gets clawed. Crowfeather hauls him off and throws him aside, then keeps talking to Leafpool, who tells him she loved him.
Nightcloud then comes over and pulls Crowfeather away from Leafpool. She sinks her claws into his pelt to do this. However, it’s worth noting that this scene contains MANY references to blood every time claws come out - she does not draw blood and he does not express any signal of pain. It’s likely she used her claws only as a means of holding onto him, not to cause him harm. Crowfeather turns on him, and Breezepelt wails before getting between them, telling Crowfeather to leave his mother alone.
Nightcloud doesn’t react rationally in this scene - but neither does any character. Lionblaze is an ass, Breezepelt is an ass, Crowfeather is an ass, and Leafpool is still walking around making declarations of her former love in front of Crowfeather’s wife.
Nightcloud is one of the cats to react rudely to Hollyleaf’s return, but she doesn’t directly attack/challenge her. (This is actually the last time we see Nightcloud.)
The final meaningful scene is in The Last Hope, when Breezepelt fights Lionblaze. Crowfeather intervenes and says he will not allow Breezepelt to hurt him. Breezepelt retorts he always knew Crowfeather hated him, which Crow denies.
“I never hated you!” Crowfeather growled. “That’s just what you were determined to believe. And Nightcloud encouraged you.”
“It’s not her fault!” Breezepelt spat.
“No,” Crowfeather hissed. “I should have done something much earlier...”
This is the first and only time this is blamed on Nightcloud. This is the only indication we have that this could be true.
Some other notable things:
Crowfeather took Nightcloud as a mate to prove his loyalty, not out of love. (This is said in After Sunset: We need to talk)
The Ultimate Guide also confirms the above, but is a questionable source given the many errors included in it. It states that Crowfeather resents Nightcloud (for not being Leafpool), and that Nightcloud coddled Breezepelt. However, the latter is never shown in the story (and the opposite is actually shown when she scolds him).
In Crowfeather’s Trial, Crowfeather is pushed to recognize his anger towards his son and apologize for his behavior towards him and Nightcloud. Even in an entire book from Crow’s perspective (which provides opportunity for memories, flashbacks, etc), there is no indication that Nightcloud actually pushed Breezepelt to hate Crowfeather. There’s a throwaway mention that Crowfeather was too strict or too rough with Breezepelt as a kit, but it’s never actually said that Nightcloud told him this/kept him away/etc. (IE: it’s impossible to say if Nightcloud screamed this at him or asked him once to be gentle. We just don’t know!)
With all this said, here’s my take on the dynamic:
Crowfeather was a neglectful father and an inconsiderate mate. The only scene we get where he seems to actually get along with Breezepaw is when he is encouraging him to dislike ThunderClan by feeding into hatred for “mixed blood” cats. In all other scenes, he: 1) ignores his bad behavior, 2) is unnecessarily harsh to him or dismissive of him, 3) questions and undermines him, 4) does not have healthy ways of addressing his poor behavior (IE, he ignores and turns away from him rather than discussing it when all the apprentices are in trouble and the other warriors are scolding them, he flat-out hits Breezepaw at one point after saying nothing to intervene in his rudeness), and 5) blames Nightcloud for their bad relationship. Crowfeather is provided plenty of opportunities to interact with Breezepaw while Nightcloud isn’t present (in fact, Nightcloud shows up very little - most scenes of the family have just Breeze and Crow, there are many books where Nightcloud isn’t even mentioned).
Nightcloud was literally just being a normal mom and was often pushed to feeling jealous around Leafpool, often because Leafpool doesn’t have any boundaries around hinting about loving Crowfeather for some reason. I was actually really shocked by how... absolutely fuckin brazen Leafpool is 24/7 about waltzing up to Crowfeather while his wife is standing right there and going “just so you know......... i miss you........... i’d give my life for you......” It’s just WEIRD. IMO, it’s pretty damn reasonable for that to make Nightcloud irritated! Most of the time, she never actually voices her jealousy, we just know about it because of Jaypaw’s ability. When she does, it’s sometimes done by complimenting someone else or giving credit to another cat, like when Jaypaw saves Breezepaw. There is zero text in the story supporting the idea that Nightcloud was overbearing or that she spoiled him: we have TWO SCENES where she has character moments around this. In the first, she is defending him from Crowfeather’s doubt, and in the second, she is scolding him for being ungrateful to ThunderClan for their help.
Breezepelt was a kid that grew up feeling unloved, unappreciated, and angry and resentful as a result. The Dark Forest, not Nightcloud, fed into this belief, but we also have a whole lot of scenes that show why that feeling of resentment towards Crowfeather is there to begin with.
The final hot take: If you believe Nightcloud ‘spoiled’ Breezepelt or that she was ‘overbearing and possessive’, you need to reread Po3 and OotS. It’s just not there.
(Bonus: I love Leafpool but god, girl, you need to read a room.)

Linked Universe Zeldas:
My takes on LU style- Zelda’s. Note: I don’t really follow Linked Universe, and I don’t like a lot of their takes on the Links, so uh, don’t assume these Zelda’s dealt with the LU versions of the Links.
SS: goes by Hylia, she jokingly suggests it when they’re picking nicknames, and everyone else just pauses for a second then realises who exactly she is and freaks the fuck out, so it kinda sticks as a combination of an in-joke and just... well, she’s Hylia reborn, can’t argue with that! The others are all low-key taken aback by how not-leadery she is, she tends to be the most hands-off when it comes to planning because well- she just guards the triforce, Link is the one who earned all 3 pieces and used it’s full power. Meanwhile her descendants picked up Wisdom sometime in the intervening centuries, so she’s pretty happy to leave the plans to them and stick to being a mediator. Third most likely Zelda to pick a fight she can’t win, most likely to win despite that.
Minish Cap: goes by Shortie, bc these beanpoles tried that with Tetra and she threatened to stab them, but Minish just found it hilarious so it stuck. Surprisingly quick to pick up how to fight, occasionally gets the other Zelda’s into trouble by running off, but they usually agree with her that whatever caught her eye was actually pretty worth it, because deep down they’re all massive nerds, no matter how functional they appear. Also tends to randomly grab gifts for the other Zeldas.
Four Swords: just goes by Four, jokes about how much her Hero(es) would be annoyed by that. Usually the first to notice encroaching danger, and always the first to investigate it. At first the more combat-experienced Zelda’s were Concerned(tm) that she is the one sticking herself into unknown dangers, until she pointed out that A) she is considerably less likely to get herself caught unless Sheik wants to go, bc she knows she has less leeway to get caught than they are and B) they won’t be down a fighter for the rescue if she’s the one who gets caught, which they reluctantly concede.
OoT: goes by Regrets, which like, the other Zelda’s just hear her bitterly pick as soon as the topic comes up and immediately decide they aren’t touching that emotional baggage. It’s an mix of Child and Adult timeline Zelda, which kinda fucks her up when she thinks about it- especially seeing as she remebers both Ganondorf breaking free and killing one of the Seven Sages in the child timeline, and what became of the Hero of Time... who she remembers clinging to the thought he got to have the childhood he rightfully should’ve in the Adult Timeline, as the waves climbed up over Hyrule to seal the awakened and unchallenged Ganondorf. So yeah, she tries not to. She also remembers the start of the Defeat Timeline, where she was too late to save the Hero and was forced to lead the exhausted and scattered remains of her people to war to kill the Demon King.
Wind Waker: literally just Tetra, she also is the first to look at the less murder-happy Zeldas and give them a knife. She’s currently working on getting them all up to basic pirate crew levels of fighting without magic, just in case, and she’s constantly pestering the fight-y Zelda’s to a spar. Regrets goes along because she’s had three slightly different Zelda’s merged in her head so her skills are a little rusty, Hylia likes to do it just because people keep forgetting she learned to fight at the same school Link did, and their responses when she reminds them are funny to her. Tetra is picked up from after establishing New Hyrule, and she looks up to Hylia more than she’s willing to admit, often going to her for advice on the whole ‘founding a nation in peaceful cohabitation with the locals’ thing. Second most likely to start a fight she can’t win.
Spirit Tracks: goes by Ghost, refuses to explain the joke to any of the others and thinks she’s hilarious for it. She is, but she doesn’t need the ego stoke. They find out about the ghost thing when she accidently astral projects in her sleep at one point and wakes up to them freaking out over her corpse, which is implied to happen often. Tetra notices that she’s really really weird to train as a fighter, because she already fights pretty well but she also fights like she’s a giant fuck-off suit of armour with a sword as big as she is. She finds it amazing to get to meet Tetra, and is constantly asking her if various stories she heard as a child are actually true or if her mother just made them up or exaggerated. They were not, and Ghost thinks Tetra is the coolest person on the planet for it.
Twilight Princess: goes by Twilight, out of tribute to Midna’s nickname for her. Absolutely misses Midna, respects Regrets more than Regrets thinks she should, but she still angsts a lot about how she just surrendered to the unkillable army its implied she’s the only one who could even see properly who could turn them all into ghos- ahem. I may or may not have opinions about people thinking it’s the wrong decision from out of universe. But yeah, she absolutely angsts about it, and really looks up to Tetra and Regrets bc at least they acted, she just sat in her tower and waited for the hero she knew would be coming. Saying that though, she indulged Tetra’s pestering to fite exactly once (1), and promptly kicked her ass and went back to her book. Because really, what else was she going to do with all that free time while Link was fishing to win a Heart Container and she couldn’t leave her room? Ganondorf had to get the idea to have her use a sword somewhere.
FSA: Even among Zelda's, she stands out for how friendly she is- more than once she brought a ‘new friend’ back to camp who’d been trying to kill them seconds earlier. This got her the nickname Torch, because she shines light into even the darkest of creatures- although, Hylia would like it if she never interacted with any of the mini-Imprisoned from HW ever again please and thank you, that was a step too far for exotic pets.
(I’ll do a followup post for the Defeat Timeline, it has a lot of the older games I haven’t played and need to familiarise myself with the characters in, and it’s already getting late)
Hyrule Warriors: goes by Sheik, was unironically ready to fight her ancestor for the name, but Regrets doesn’t really care. Speaking of regrets, upon learning that Regrets did the exact same disguise in the Adult timeline, Sheik immediately wants to go stab Cia (and maybe Lana too) for letting her think she was getting away with the disguise when Cia had literally seen the exact same trick just one timeline over. (post post-game definitive edition, so Cia has her redemption arc) She also was never meant to be the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, and views it as a burden- without Cia’s interference, the Triforce of Wisdom and it’s visions would’ve been passively sitting in the royal vaults instead of etched into her hand, but fate got confused when the Triforce had been split, but the one who should inherit Wisdom was much better suited to Courage. This leads to a bit of a disconnect sometimes, where fate has changed her into a suitable host for the Triforce of Wisdom, but she just kinda isn’t one. She’s also a MASSIVE nerd (I saw those TP references in Linkle’s Twilight stage Nintendo! She literally started dropping random history quotes after almost dying, the nerd) so she’s constantly fangirling over all her famous ancestors, because if anyone had managed to hear legends from all 3 timelines, it would be HW Zelda. The most likely to pick a fight she can’t win, she literally only pretends to be functional and have impulse control when they’re in her Hyrule and her people can see her.
BOTW:
Both BoTW Zeldas avoid each other like the plague because yeah, that’s a physical manifestation of my failures. They’re not consolidated like OoT was for bonus angst- because just merging them would show her there’s a happier timeline where all of her friends survived and Hyrule didn’t fall and crumble to ruins while she and Link took a 100 year nap.
AoC: goes by Terrako, because why the hell not. Has Terrako with her, which gets confusing, but he’s an adorable Eggy Boi, and basically team mascot. Is using her Master Cycle+Sheikah Slate movesets, bc she tried to use her Goddess bow moveset and reality just kinda glitched bc there were two Zelda’s using the exact same power, and they both agreed to never try that again.
BoTW: goes by Architect, because that’s what she spends half her time doing these days. Regularly nerds out with Sheik. Low-key dying inside from self-worth issues rearing up again now that she’s hanging out with all these legendary queens, but tries not to let it show and keep with a positive attitude, too mixed results.

My thoughts when doodling these four Links, for my personal game I will refer twilight princess Link by the name Lalon (as I ship Oot Link x Malon). I wanted to share my thoughts and little fan theorizes for the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild due to these four games that highly reference each other. (I haven’t play the 3ds or handhelds outside switch zelda games fully so I don’t count them)
My thoughts begin to connect these game started when I was playing through the Goron Mines in Twilight Princess and happen across the lava frog that keeps spitting at Lalon, until the player shoots him. This little frog made me think of the same frogs in Skyward Sword that swim in Lava. With the scattering of Skyward Sword ruins in Breath of the Wild and the springs connect these two games as Skyward sword was the beginning, and Breath of the wild the end. With the lava frog in the Goron Mine in Twilight Princess, if to be the same type of creature that swims in lava, helps me connect Twilight Princess taking place before Breath of the wild. Ocarina of Time is included with Twilight Princess as Lalon is the descendant of time. (how I see it as each zelda game I play links as if they are reincarnation, of us the player as we are the one controlling Link, outside TP Link, Lalon, as it feels more as if we are journeying with the descendant of time to fulfill what his ancestor couldn’t.) *I have played Wind Waker and I love it, but in regards to this fan theorize timeline as it more of a Breath of the Wild forgotten Timeline. I only see Wind Waker fitting in this fan theorize timeline as it would explain what happen to the Koroks to turn from human to little tree creatures. Since in TP we didn’t see much of forest children.*
o-o now that I have explained that timeline theory idea, I shall continue with my legend of zelda theorizes for Breath of the wild. ^-^
My first breath of the wild theory, Is Princess Zelda a descendant of the Gerudo possible? What first gave me the idea for this theory is that Princess Zelda states her grandmother had the power to hear spirits *I have another theory with the spirits for Link* As well as her Mother, Queen Zelda, to whom told Zelda their powers would dwell in her. With this is mind I have noticed that in Breath of the Wild, the Gerudo and Hylains have a better relationship then Ocarina of Time. Possible due to no Ganondorf, but the idea came to mind is, what if the Royal Family wedded off a Princess to possible a good Gerudo male, or a Prince of Royal blood wedded a Gerudo, either allowing a girl to always be born into the royal family to inherit the name Zelda. *which leads to same theory as earlier* As it would help explain why Queen Zelda and Urbosa had a strong relationship, possible. However that is just a theory~
My second breath of the wild theory, this theory has more than on idea to it as it is mostly about the Prince book that can be found Hateno Village. When I first discovered it when BotW came out, I didn’t think much of it yet. However after playing through aoc and replaying through botw I came back to this little book that made my imagination run. (So I am just throwing theorize out)
the Prince is about Link, as it was written by someone Hateno that wish to keep his memory alive. Possible someone that help defend Fort Hateno and saw Link fall, but didn’t know he was put into the stasis.
the Prince is about Link (but different), as it a hint towards a hidden story with Link. As he is actually from a branch family of the Royal Family, with him being the first male born to the Gerudo-version royal family. However now that a gerudo born every 100 years wasn’t known in Hyrule outside of the Gerudo and Royal Family. With Link inheriting the powers to speak the spirits, all of botw Link is talking to spirits o-o and looking at spirits.
My third breath of the wild Theory, is more for botw II, but... For this theory the whale guardian found in hanging in Hateno Tech Lab. I find this device is a mystery to my, but I would like to theorize that Nintendo left this device as a hint, or was intended, to be used to allow Link to travel under the water. Giving more exploration underwater with a little whale sub, allowing Link and Zelda to discover some hidden caverns. This theorized idea of mine came to be after watch age of Calamity trailer when first released with Terrako first appearance made me think of the guardian in Ta’loh Naeg shrine as it was a hint towards Terrako to come. As this guardian is only goal is to teach Link and to meet its end at Link’s hand. When playing Age of Calamity, to keep from spoiling, I would think that after living with that version of Link and Zelda, Terrako returns to his original time to fulfil one last role. To which I refuse to finish this shrine in my second game file for BoTW.
Besides that I think the entrance that is shown in botw II trailer I think is in Faron Woods, with Farosh actually watching over the enterance *cough* under water *cough* as it would help explain why the Yiga tried to steal the thunder helm in BOTW.
That is my last theory ^-^) I just wanted to share my thoughts and theorizes.

Mama Queaky ! :D Could you do a Hw Zelink or OOT Zelink (either one is fine) where Zelda is struggling with trust issues from a rumor & Link is reassuring her ?
Hey, my little baby Anon! ‘course I can! (also, I have no idea if I’m correct about how old horses should be before they “retire” so feel free to educate me because I did like a quick 5 second google)
Also, also: Let me know if this is too long for ya’ll’s dashes. I can pop a read more on it to help.
______________
The whispers and rumors that swirl around any group can always be an interesting mix when it comes to romance. Especially, when in particular tiers of royalty. Zelda has learned to disregard them and, in some cases, to use them for her advantage should she need to. She has learned there is almost always a kernel of truth to even the most blown out of proportion secret. The Queen ignores the unnecessary information but the temptation to dive into the world of words orbiting around your own life can prove difficult.
“Your Highness is everything all right?” A young girl, new to the staff, asks as she picks up the tray of tea mostly untouched. She shuffles with nervousness and averts her pretty, brown eyes to the floor. “I’m sorry to ask but... I’ve heard... rumors.”
Zelda lifts an eyebrows and smiles, gently. “Birds like to twitter around and sing. Pay them no mind.” She closes the book she was reading, an old tome brought home by her favorite green clad knight, and sighs. “Thank you for your concern though.”
The girl nods and turns to leave but pauses. “It doesn’t bother you... though?” She seems torn between speaking so casually to the regent but the curiosity overcomes any desire to be quiet. Zelda’s familiar with the rather informal relationship she has with her ‘servants’. It’s something that she worked hard to achieve. “I don’t know that I could stand having anyone talk about me like that... I-In fact, I know I can’t...” Her hands grip the tray hard enough Zelda is a little shocked to see the white of her knuckles.
“Is there something you would like to say?” She urges, softly. Clearly, this was something that truly was bothering the young woman. “Or is there something I can help with?”
She wiggles her lips in an odd, quirky way as if the words are fighting just behind her teeth. “I... I’ve heard rumors.” The maid swallows and musters up a little more courage to shake the tremors in her voice. “That your husband has been seen... getting close with a ranch girl some ways away from town.”
‘Malon.’ Zelda thinks but does not interupt.
“M-My issue isn’t as serious as that... but... I heard... that there might be a bet among the guards on who... can... bed me first.” She says the last part so quietly that Zelda almosts asks her to repeat it but she’s shivering so badly that she doesn’t dare. “H-How do you ignore things like that? Mean things!”
The Queen gets up from her table and moves forward to take the tray from the girl’s hands. She puts it down and then takes hold of the girl. “It can be difficult and I remember when it used to sting. Hurt and cut so deep that I would agonize over it.” Zelda squeezes the girl shoulders and smiles. “ I have worked hard to value my own worth and words. I’ve surrounded myself with friends who are quick to ignore these kinds of things and who work to support one another. I would advise you to do the same.” She releases her and then laughs. “I have also gotten pretty brave and tend to track down those being particularly nasty to give them a piece of my mind.”
“R-Really?!”
“I wouldn’t say for you to do the same... but,” Zelda shrugs, “I can make an arrangement that the guards are reminded they are supposed to be noble and righteous.”
“Thank you!” The gratitude that shines in those brown eyes warms Zelda’s heat but it isn’t too long after they’re quick goodbye that something cold slithers it’s way in.
Her room is warm and inviting which is only enhanced by the fact that her favorite person is sitting in his old armchair by the fireplace. Link has his legs draped over the arm and seemed to have only managed removing one boot before getting lost in tracing the lines of the map he’s inspecting.
“I would have come to bed earlier but I got lost in the library.”
Link snorts and folds the map down so she can see him snicker at her. “You mean, lost in that old book I brought you.” He wags his eyebrows at her as she begins to undress for bed which is met with an eyeroll.
“Says the man studying his next adventure.”
“Heh.” He drops his map onto the end table next to him and reaches down to finally remove his shoe. “I am merely keeping our beloved kingdom safe from monsters.”
“And treasure.”
He grins. “If I must!” Link stands to begin removing his own clothes long since in need of a good cleaning. He drops across the bed and reaches his hand out to draw her against his chest. His merry mood dims and he looks sad all of a sudden. Link caresses her cheek when she props herself up to look at him with a questioning expression. “I, uh, talked to Malon the other day and she thinks it might be time I retire my girl.”
“Epona?” Zelda ignores the sting in her chest at the rancher’s name and focuses on the sadness in her husband’s voice. “She’s nearly 18, love. Not quite young enough for adventures any longer... ” She pokes his chest. “And neither are you.”
He pouts. “I’m not yet 30.”
“30 is old enough to start thinking about settling down... eh, dear?”
Link shrugs. “I don’t know.” He laughs. “Marriage is a being commitment.”
She gently smacks his chest and sits up. “Terribly sorry to inconvenience you.” Zelda sighs and, after just a moment or two of quick contemplation, decides that she doesn’t like the heaviness she feel in her chest. “Darling?”
Link pops up behind her and brushes her hair to the side so that he can kiss the curve of her neck. “Yes, my beautiful love?”
“Do... you...” She feels silly, suddenly, asking him something like this while his hands encircle her. “Um.”
Link places his chin on her shoulder and then titles his head so his head lightly bumps hers. “Zelda, what is it?” His voice is soft, encouraging, and she wonders if he will laugh at her question.
“You’ve been spending more time at Lon Lon... and... it’s come to the attention of the court--”
“Ah, yes, the spymasters.” Link pulls away to lie back against the headboard.
“Well.” She pushes on though she misses the reassurance his bodyheat gave her. “They’ve noticed how close you and Malon have become... again.”
“Again?” He asks and she turns in time to see the puzzle she had not even fully laid out click together in his eyes. “You think I’m cheating?” Link’s voice tries very hard to remain even and calm but she can tell there’s more complicated emotions swelling in him.
“N-No!” Zelda holds her hands up and shakes her head. “I-It’s just that you used to be close--”
“You can say engaged, Zelda. It’s not a curse.” Link frowns and crosses his arms. Zelda knows that’s the sign he has upped his mental guard. “That was ages ago. We were teenagers.”
“I know.” She slumps and curls her legs up to her chest. “Sometimes, when I hear the whispers, I think that maybe you regret becoming my husband.” She sighs. “It is hard when our relationship has been so complicated and I think about how easy a life with Malon would be.” She meets his gaze and shrugs. “I would not blame you if the temptation be--”
“Nope.” Link moves forward and seizes her face in his hands. He kisses her fully and hard against the mouth. “Listen,” He says presses his forehead against hers, “there isn’t a day that goes by that I am not so incredibly happy that I have you. That we chose each other. That I have this, right here, until that day that I die.” He kisses her more softly this time. “Malon and I were kids... there is always going to be some affection there. I cannot deny that.” Link smiles so softly and genuinely that Zelda feels her heart skip a beat. “But, I love you. I love you and there is no one else that would be able to fill the space you would leave if I were to lose you.”
Zelda smiles and is a little shocked when his thumb brushes away a tear. “I love you too, darling.” She kisses him and allows herself to be pulled into his lap. “I’m sorry for doubting you.”
“Don’t be.” He chuckles. “Sometimes, it’s nice just to be reassured.”

New to the story?  Read from the beginning.  PART 1 is here
///////////////////////
Sarfin nodded and began writing swiftly and neatly on a fresh sheet of parchment.  He paused for a moment and conferred with Sula briefly. Her eyes went wide and she nodded vigorously.  He wrote for a few more moments.  The parchment was given to a clerk who took it and disappeared in the direction of the scriptorium.
When the clerk returned, he gave the parchment back to Sarfin along with several copies.  Sarfin handed one copy to Kotance who began to read and then snarled, “This is insane!  Attempted Piracy? Mutiny?  Murder?  Attempted murder?  Theft?  Falsification of Council documents?  Rape?  Violation of the Second Great Law?  Who am I supposed to have stolen from?  These witnesses are children like her!”  He ended by pointing dramatically at Kurin.
Kurin pounced on his statement at once.  “You just qualified them as witnesses!  You know very well that I am a legal adult since I got my journeyman’s certificate.  If they are like me, then they are viable witnesses by your own testimony.”  Sarfin nodded and wrote quietly and quickly on another parchment.  Sula looked surprised and then stifled a guffaw.  Some of the audience laughed outright.
Sarfin raised his hands for silence and after a few moments, got it. “Mister Kotance, You have now been formally charged with crimes. Some of these are capital charges.  Included with the charges are a list of witnesses who will testify in your case.
“You may speak to these witnesses under supervision.  You may seek any other witnesses that you need and the fleet will produce them for you, if possible.  Other than as needed to prepare your case, you will be held in custody until your trial at the next Spring Gathering of the Naral fleet.  If you need an advocate, you may obtain one of your choice or the fleet can provide you with one.  Your choice or changes in your choice of advocate will not be allowed to delay your trial.   Exercise both care and wisdom in this matter.”
Soaring Bird crewmen appeared at Kotance’s arms and each took one, bending it behind the now struggling man.  They bound his wrists and forced him back onto his bench.  The sheet of charges and witnesses was neatly folded and placed into a pouch on his sash-belt.
Kurin wanted to hide instead of say what had to be said next.  “Your Honor, the matter of the attempted piracy of the Grandalor by the Longin has not been fully settled.  One charge of murder remains from that attempt.  Many, at least the boarding party, followed the Captain-pretender Kotance voluntarily.  They hoped for illegal promotions based on his false promises.  If he’d won the engagement and succeeded in his piracy, he’d have been able to deliver on at least some of those promises.  Others, like the promise to make Cron an officer were completely false.  We need to know how many followed him voluntarily.”  She swallowed a lump in her throat.  “The Longin may need to be partially or wholly Scattered.”  She sat face in her hands, small shoulders shaking.  High Cloud, on her shoulder, was trying to preen the hair around her ear, and alternately stroking along her jaw with his beak.
Tanlin put arms about Kurin and held her, stroking her white hair comfortingly as she said, “Shush, child, t’ere’s a way oot o’ t’is net, i’ t’ey’ll take ‘t.  Remember t’at Arrakan law t’at I told ye o’?”  Turning her head to Barad, she added, “Luve o’ m’ ‘eart, tell t’e Court o’ t’e Arrakan Wergeld law.”
Barad stood and faced the still appalled Sarfin, Sula and audience.  “Your Honor, as my most able advocate said earlier, the Grandalor does not ask so much.  In my wife’s home fleet, there is a unique form of settlement for both civil and criminal complaints.  They call it a Wergeld.
A Wergeld takes this form.  All the parties involved in the dispute get together before the fleet, at a Gathering, usually.  There, they agree to a mutually satisfactory penalty, often monetary, but not always, for the wrong.  As part of the agreement, all grudges and feuds between all the parties must be laid aside forever.  Failure to abide by that last part of the Wergeld voids the settlement and regular Law must take its often harsh course.
“If the Court and the Longin will agree, the Grandalor and the Longin can try to reach a Wergeld agreement before you.  You have the proxies of the fleet as a whole and the Longin’s Councils are present.  If all parties agree to this, it will be binding under the Third Great Law.”
Master Juris stood, hands raised for recognition, suspicion plain to see on his face.  “I speak for the Longin’s combined Councils.  I was elected head of the combined Councils by the Articles.” Here he shot a dark look at Barad.  “I cannot believe that the journeyman that I am proudest of has done to her home ship what she has just done.”
Tanlin cut in hotly, “Dinnae ye blame ‘er!  She ‘as a duty t’ be our advocate an’ ‘ard as some o’ the job is, she’s doin’ ‘t! Be proud o’ ‘er t’at she doesnae shirk t’e ‘ard parts o’ t’e task.  We’re tryin’ t’ save bot’ ye!
“Wen Barad an’ Oi were married in yer food boot’, WE forgave all feuds between you and us!  T’at is Arrakan Law and Custom.  We claimed it an’ ye accepted, makin’ it bindin’ under t’e T’ird Groit Law.  We’re nae forsworn.”
Barad interrupted her calmly, “Peace, my love.  Setting aside a lifetime of suspicion is not easily done.  Some cannot do it.  If they will not accept, they will not accept.  We cannot force them to save themselves.  We can only throw them the line.  They must be the ones to take it.”
Abashed, Tanlin continued to hold and rock the weeping Kurin in her arms. High Cloud had flown off.  “Ye’re right, Barad.  Seems a shame t’ let t’em go down, t’ough.  Only met t’em a little but t’ey appeared t’ be a decent ship.  Good folk.”
“They are,” said Barad simply.
High Cloud returned with a still flopping fish in his claws.  Tanlin made him space and he landed in Kurin’s lap.  He tried to poke the fish inexpertly into Kurin’s mouth.  The bird’s antics brought a small smile to Tanlin’s lips.  “Ye know t’e drill, sailor,” she said to Kurin.  “Let ‘im ‘elp.  T’at’s ‘is first catch ‘e’s givin’ t’ ye.”
Kurin took the fish in shaking hands and took a bite.  She said in a quivering voice, “Thanks, High Cloud.  I do need help just now.” The young Wide Wing climbed back to her shoulder and settled down to some serious preening of Kurin’s hair.
Master Juris glared at Kurin.  The threat to his ship had him in a fury. “Kurin, as head of the combined Councils of the Longin, I could propose you be voted off the ship for your treachery.  How would you like that?”
Tanlin said, with a mildness that belied the fury clear to see in the set of her whole body, “From all t’at Oi‘ve ‘eard o’ ‘ow ye deal wit’ orphans on yer ship, an’ Kurin tried t’ say naught but praise for ye, t’at would be just w’at Oi wad expect.”
A grim faced Captain Sarfin was beginning to write on a new sheet of parchment.
Kurin looked up, almost dry eyed, and saw what was happening.  She knew the penalty for threatening or bribing an officer of the Court.  Most folk did.  She had to divert Captain Sarfin before he finished writing the death warrant for Master Juris.
A decision now clear in her mind, she said woodenly, “Go ahead.  It’s not like I don’t have a ship to go to.  Besides the Grandalor that I own, I can think of a few other ships that would have me as well. I have accounts, tools of my own in your shop, my booth and other goods along with clothing that all have to be transferred.  Bring everything here before the Court to be verified as complete.”
Master Juris stopped as if he had just been punched in the stomach. Wide-eyed, appalled that his bluff had been called, he said shakily, “You can’t be serious.  You can’t leave us!  You — — you’re just a child.”
Barad interjected angrily, “But you can bully her with the threat of being cast off her ship?”
Instead of answering Master Juris, Kurin asked Captain Sarfin, “Your Honor, are you done with that adoption registry?  I may need it in a few minutes.  It seems that this is one time that the Longin is not happy that I have done well.  Please send officers appointed by your Court to get my things.”  Sula detailed several crewmen from the Dark Dragon to go to the Longin and get Kurin’s property.
Sarfin struggled to retain his composure as he produced the book.  He said gently, “Are you sure that you want to do this, Kurin?  They have a contract with the fleet that they cannot fulfill without you.  This will cost them both the mapping contract and the school.  The default penalties will bankrupt them and force a total Scattering.”
In a voice carefully controlled but still a little shaky, Kurin replied, “If they remove me from their ship, how is that my problem?”
As she spoke, her voice began to steady down.  “Your Honor, as an advocate before the Court, am I allowed know of a crime and keep it from the Court?”
“No,” said Sarfin, “the smallest penalty would be a fine.  The least that you can do is exactly what you have done.  Ask for an investigation.”
Kurin chewed a little more of High Cloud’s fish and began to do what she did best.  Think.  The change was obvious and immediate as she separated her feelings from her words and actions.  Evenly she asked, “Tell me, all of you Masters and Officers of the Longin, how many guards were put on each of your shops to keep you penned in during the piracy attempt against the Grandalor?”
