i think there's something to be said for how in almost every piece of queer media you'll have a scene where character A asks character B to run away with them. i'm talking alpha century, i'm talking sailing to fucking china, i'm talking jonathan sims considering gouging out his eyes with martin blackwood and just walking away, i'm talking peter nureyev and juno steel in season 1, i'm TALKING about LAN WANGJI and "come back to Cloud Recesses with me".

there's just something so inherently bittersweet about the idea of running away with your loved one that's deeply ingrained in the queer experience and i think that's lovely.

One thing of note in HoJ is that Hera didn't really do much of the legwork in regards to the Wilderness memories. She basically just showed up and said "This is Jason. It was a little hard to get him to warm up to you, but now he's part of your group, playing the role as a protector, and he's also dating Piper," and she just let them Mist do its thing. This means that all of Leo’s memories come straight outta his brain because they don't even have to corroborate with Piper’s. So, in Leo’s memories, Jason is this borderline bad-boy Casanova and Hara is looking at him like "🤨🫵🏳��‍🌈⁉️" because she did NOT fucking say that.

This also means that as Leo gets to know the Real Jason, he starts to remember things that are kinda 😳😳😳 and Definitely Happened. It's like daydreaming because it's fictional, but not really because it's a memory. And it's all very vivid because if this event HAD happened, Leo’s hyperactive little brain would have recorded every single detail, and those details only ever get more solid the more he knows Jason. So, like, Leo is stuck sitting there with the knowledge of what it feels like for Jason to lean over his shoulder and correct Leo’s history homework, his voice very quiet and right next to Leo's ear. Is it irony? That Jason, the esteemed praetor of New Rome, found his needed happy place in the form of Camp Half-blood; whereas Percy, hero of Camp Half-blood, found his much desired sense of normalcy in the form of New Rome and Camp Jupiter?

comparing sasha ramses and juno is actually so fun because they all have a different motive for the same thing: helping people so much it literally ruins them

Juno has constant guilt and this feeling that he needs to prove something he needs to do good. he needs to fix things and do good things because he's just a bad shitty no good guy. He's got this idea that everything's his fault and everythings about him so its his if he wins and his if he loses and he drags people down with it

Ramses has this idea that people cannot be trusted with their own lives. They need to be helped and fixed because they wont do it themselves. He believes they need to be steered right like children because they don't know what's best for themselves. A very controlling and idealized mindset where he's doing a good thing by taking people's free will because they can't be trusted with it

and Sasha doesn't believe that it's her fault or that people can't help themselves but instead she feels like this is just Her Job. She should do this because it's her job. Less "they CAN'T do it" and more "They shouldn't" because it's her job. and we see that a lot. I mean aside from her literally telling Juno it's her job instead of his. She feels like she needs to consider everyone and everything at once. Which is what leads to her wanting to stop all progress and get to the root of all these issues. Because that's overwhelming to look at an entire galaxy and think that you need to focus on every single outcome. She wants to do things one at a time, bit by bit, but with an entire galaxy, things will change and some progress will constantly be lost.
