Guilty pleasure: Judge Judy on Amazon Prime

WE DID IT!!! In 24 hours, with no marketing help from Amazon or QCode, we got The Edge Of Sleep to #6 on Amazon Prime’s TV page and #9 overall in the USA!!!

This is huge but we can’t let up! If nothing else, we need to honor Markiplier’s request to dethrone Judge Judy from her spot. Also we don’t want Amazon to think this is a fluke if the numbers suddenly drop off. So keep watching TEOS, keep getting your friends/family to watch it, keep posting and hash-tagging it. And definitely watch it on the “official” release day, Friday October 18th, in case Amazon only decides to care about “official” release numbers.

Well done everyone but let’s keep going! Stay awake and keep edging your sleep!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM OCTOBER 18th!!!

In a YouTube stream, Markiplier said that the powers-that-be (Amazon, I’m guessing?) are going to be looking at the show’s average performance over a whole 30 days.

So we’ve done a great opening performance for the show’s debut but we’re not out of the woods yet. It’s not a sprint but a marathon. Mark said it’s to be expected that the numbers fluctuate from day to day but the average of the next month will be what’s important.

So now that we have a clearer guideline, we’ve got a month of sleeedging ahead of us. Hopefully it will open internationally at some point (he made it sound like that was in the works) to boost numbers even more. But don’t lose faith! We’ve got this!

HOW DOES YOUR PERSON FEEL ABOUT YOU? PICK-A-PILE ...

Pile (1) : Cut The BS

Cards:  Hanged man (reversed), Knight of Swords (reversed), Five of Wands, Sun, Two of Cups. Seven of Cups (reversed), Queen of Swords – at the bottom of the deck.

I live for the energy like this!  “Your person” has some ego issues rooted from insecurity- unbeknownst to them. There is so much to be said about your person which leads me to my next point. Your person feels like you see right through them and & they’re feeling shooketh that you had the audacity to call them out on it- Judge Judy style. They are mad (5 of wands) because whatever charm, innocence, or victimhood energy they try to exude doesn’t effectively manipulate you- like it does for everyone else. Due to the Leo influence with the Sun, I feel like for some of you who picked this pile- this was someone you just met, or barley knew. This is someone you were dating or talking to, regardless, the energy is new or surface level. Now as we know, the majority of people wear mask 24/7, especially when it comes to who they are dating and or getting to know i.e. impress. Emphasis on “as we know”. “Your person” didn’t think you’d know or be aware that they were presenting themselves as someone they are not. This is someone who projected their lies upon you. They were not being honest about their past failed relationships or their current dating status and worse- their sexual history. Therefore, if you told them for example, you haven’t been dating- they didn’t believe you. For those rare folks, you told them you’ve been abstinent – and they didn’t believe you. If you told them, you are a homebody- they didn’t believe you. If you told them that you’re looking for a committed relationship- they believed this and had intentions of taking advantage of your desires. This person had intentions of carrying out a fling, a situationships- friends with benefits, if you will. Meanwhile, you were clear (Judge Judy vibes) about wanting something more committed. Underneath the 7 of Cups (reversed) and Queen of Swords cards therein lie the 4 of Wands and 7 of Swords. Personally, I view the 7 of Swords card as the Devil and 7 of Cups all in one. (they’re one of the same) Let’s think about something for a moment. Home should be a safe place, correct? Imagine being home and someone is lurking outside your home with intent on robbing you…

Of course, if this is unbeknownst to you- what do not know cannot hurt you, but does ignorance prevent/ protect you from a lurker who intends on following through to rob, steal, kill or abuse you? NO.  I presented that analogy to confirm your Judge Judy energy in relationships. You are cautious and refuse to be that unknowing person who allows people into your life, bed, home, heart, and legs (4 of wands energy) - who have bad intentions for you in which are hidden. Again, you know people walk around with masks, constantly playing a role- a character. It’s gotten so bad that people believe they are who they pretend to be. Amazingly, the Two of Swords and Page of Wands are underneath the 7 of Swords and 4 of Wands. “Your Person” thought you were oblivious, unknowing, and blind. (they may wear glasses which would be symbolic for this person being blind but projecting that onto others- anyway)

I pulled more cards from the Kipper Oracle deck and two cards appeared. “The Official Person” which is equivalent to the Emperor and “The Lovers Card” (reversed) came out.  “Your person” may be older than you and truly thought they had an advantage over you. They are used to dealing with other “pages”, and assumed you were just another one they had under control. This is where the jokes kick in because they underestimated you. They thought you were dumb, desperate for a relationship and willing to fight/ compete for their affection. (their Sun) Meanwhile, you are The Queen of Swords (man or woman). In English, you are intelligent as hell and knew exactly what kind of person they were. They exposed themselves, unknowingly. 

(I love it here!- GOTCHA ) But back to my analogy, this is like you being in the comfort of your home and whoever is lurking outside thinking they’re going to successfully rob you, actually ends up getting exposed at the last minute when they realize their being recorded or you have weapons or barking dogs. Some of you have a strong intuition or mind and see through the facades people portray.

(Now, to clarify though it’s not necessary because you already “peeped the scene”.)

 For laughs and giggles, let’s clarify the Hanged One (reversed) and the Knight of Swords (reversed) that’s hiding behind the Sun. Okay, the Eight of Wands, Queen of Pentacles, Ten of Wands, and the Queen of Wands came out. I think these Queens are one of the same. (not different people) For me, this means that this person was unaware (hanged one reversed) that a lot of you have been on a Self-Love (Queen of Pentacles) journey (Eight of Wands).  Another thing, they weren’t aware of (hanged one reversed) about you was that you’ve been through a lot (Ten of Wands) to become this strong, no nonsense and confident person (Queen of Wands- male or woman).

The joke continues because the King of Swords came out and the card is positioned looking at all the cards that I just clarified with the Queen of Wands and Queen of Pentacles. (The energy just abruptly stopped) The King of Swords is Aquarius energy and the abrupt stop in the reading indicates for me, someone who is dumbfounded. Imagine the face of someone who you just BEAT OR PROVED WRONG. They just sit there looking dumb, silent, and baffled. (This person (has realized that they LOST AT THEIR OWN GAME) The reading has finished, however, I’m not done dissecting this. I feel like you came across this person to teach them a lesson. According to Vedic Astrology, Saturn is in Aquarius, and this explains why this person came out as King of Swords with energy of abruptly stopping. Another reason I feel you came across this person was because this was a test for you. It feels like watching a play and then the scene cuts off. AND SCENE.

In conclusion, this person was just a person. They were never intended to be a permanent figure in your life. You taught them a multitude of things – like not everyone Is the same and shouldn’t be treated as such (whether they learned the lesson is solely on them) but you were tested on being able to stand your ground, remain confident and intellectually sharp but also on your ability to make accurate judgements on people’s character.  Energetically, I feel you passed your test especially if you’ve picked this pile.

I had to shuffle twice for this pile. The first spread that came out did not make any sense. I wasn’t surprised because the 8 of Swords appeared. Immediately, I knew I didn’t want to be bothered. So, I decided to shuffle for a new spread. This may be symbolic for how you are feeling, thinking and or moving at this time. If someone brings confusion, stress, or annoyance – you are throwing the entire situation away. ZERO TOLERANCE. (YASSSS, SLAY) But let’s get down to business.

(mind you, I’ve started shuffling now)

Your person views you as mature and they are currently in their thoughts about you. (I pulled two cards from the Kipper oracle deck and “Mature Woman/Man and “Thoughts” cards appeared) This pile may be a continuation to Pile 1. Anyway, your person is thinking about how mature you are. This is important because people only have this train of thoughts about a person when they, themselves, are immature. And or, they are used to dealing with immature people and you’re different. With much consideration of the King of Wands and Justice (reversed) at the bottom of the deck, I am led to believe that this person is immature.

This person is selfish, unfair, non-committal and emotionally unavailable. The Six of Pentacles (reversed), The Eight of Wands (reversed) and the Two of Wands (reversed) indicate that this person doesn’t give the same energy they take from others.  The situations they engage in especially in  relationships- never go the distance. The reason this person is thinking of you as mature is because you made it clear that you require someone who wants to “settle down”. You are the one who wants a long-term, committed, fair and peaceful relationship and they knew they weren’t going to offer that. They know you are not the type who will engage in flings which is exactly what they’re offering. I wanted to clarify the King of Cups and sadly, the 3 of Cups appeared. This person really is a player. I feel that there were three other men/ women in this person’s life that he may have hurt on a profound level with their non-committal behavior. Basically, “your person” knows you know. It’s like you’re a psychologist and you have dissected their behavior and concluded that they are “hurt” ( childhood wounding) and unfortunately, hurting others. They feel like you have judged them- accurately. They consider you a Tower moment. It reminds me of the energy in the beginning where things were confusing, and I felt that you refused to deal with anyone who brought confusion, annoyance, or stress to your life. You pretty much threw them away and this has caused them a Tower ( Ego Death). It’s like others tolerated their non-committal energy mainly due to their desperation, insecurity, or familiarity. Whereas, when you came along it was giving A STRONG HELL NO, BYE. They view you as the star card- DIFFERENT, AUTHENTIC AND UNWILLING TO TOLERATE BS. I wanted to see more about the cards Justice (reversed) and King of Wands, and the Ace of Cups appeared. This person is thinking about you, reflecting on their behavior, their past and realizing -FINALLY, that they need to heal. In other words, move on from the past and whatever cycle they keep repeating because of it. It’s like they are being disillusioned because of you, talk about a TOWER. Yup, the Nine of Wands is here. That does make my brain itch in a way - how do the SWKs feel about Luzhen. Peach Kong here obvs takes whatever issues he might have, shoves them in a suitcase and yeets it way past the Andromeda Galaxy and is being The Good Dad the kid deserves. But what are the others thoughts on Luzhen? Like, he's their sibling, clearly baby, adorable at that. But how many hard reboots they need to get through in a day since he was literally dropped on them?

AhHa! LMK Wukong does canonically have a lawyer (my hc its the Fire Star of Mars). Now I'm imagining a Judge Judy or Maury-esque trial over the custody/parentage of Sun Luzhen and the other SWKs vs their universes' respective Nuwa, Houtu and Fuxi.

Reborn SWK/Smokey is the most furious since he has a whole complex over not having parents.

At least a few LEMs are watching the scenario like "huh weird." until one brings up a very good question.

Mihou, a bit worried: "Hey, if the Wukongs are made by the same people, what about us? Were we made by Nuwa too? Are we related!?" Plum: "Nah. Chang'e cleared it up for me thousands of years ago. I was made by lady Taiying Xingjun on accident." Lilac: "WHO!?" Plum, realising that he probably shouldn't have said that: "The... the supreme goddess of the moon?" (o_o;) Other LEMs: "THE WHO?!?"

Cue multiple LEMs having their own simultaneous identity crisis, Not everyday you discover that you might be an illegitimate lunar royalty. The more "feral" LEMs (Zhanshi and Spice) take it the hardest, while some like Mihou are having a fairytale fantasy moment.

Different SWKs reactions ahoy! Some are kinda lumped together cus of similar reactions. Note; this may also be them in response to recieving their *own* Sun Luzhen >:3

Dasheng: "Oh sweet Buddha. They just made one of me?" Has a small brainfart on whether or not Luzhen is his clone or his sibling. Eventually just sighs and lets the little guy cling onto his back as a baby monkey do. He's used to sudden children by now. Actually gets a little proud when people assume Luzhen is his - cus heck yeah, I'm dad, not our neglectful creators.

Smokey: "No." Extremely bitter. He doesn't want anything to do with Luzhen - it's not his fault another him got made! And whats more he's furious at their creators for "allowing" another Stone Monkey to be born to face the same crisis/trials he did. Might soften to the kid overtime, esp if his Liang gets parental on the little guy, but its a long journey.

Cherry: *hugs Luzhen for a long time before he starts sobbing* He immediately feels a kinship for Luzhen, one he lacked when he was "born". He feels like he has to protect the little guy, cus who else will? His cub now, their creators can screw off!

Ace: "Oh no. Oh no. My love! My love! It happened again!" Immediately overwhelmed and getting flashbacks to how him and his LEM obtained their "MK". Joker (his LEM) is a lot more calm about the situation.

Shihou: *delighted chirping!* He is just... fascinated. He was born partially grown, so to see a Stone Monkey thats an infant? Its the coolest thing in the world. They do have a little brain itch of what this could mean for them tho. Immediately takes on Luzhen as his little brother, but may require help to understand how to care for him.

Ganzhe: "AH! So that can happen!" More suprised than angry. He doesn't want Luzhen to face the same injustices he did as a newborn Stone Monkey, so he probably makes it his mission to keep the little guy a secret for a while. Wants to be Luzhen's mentor someday.

Starfruit: "Ok, guess I have a baby brother now. Cool" Secretly kinda mad that nobody in the different Realms bothered to like, tell him who their creators where. But a baby is a baby. Introduces Luzhen to his fellow fighters as his little brother/understudy. Gets him his own little Wukong outfit so he can show him off.

A few reboots are required for everyone involved really XD

Had to comment on this cus it's so in character, esp for the TMKATI au. Poor Wukong thinking his chaotic kids are like karma for his past crimes. (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

Meanwhile Mac is just like; "He's a toddler. They all want to fight heaven."

MK is a little overwhelmed and supressing his shock, canon and au; since this would make the three earth gods his parents or grandparents. Interally screams for like three days before he can approach the topic. Later starts to see Luzhen as a little brother, albeit one thats technically his uncle(?) he's not gonna worry about that part.

Most of the Shadowpeach kids are just like "Oh cool! Free brother!", while LMK Nezha is staring off into the distance like he's having war flashbacks.

Hero!Liuer def starts obsessing over Sun Luzhen, esp if his verses' MK hasn't hatched yet. He's a *baby* Sun Wukong! And he's so fluffy! Immediately starts telling Luzhen all the Havoc in Heaven stories, much to Dasheng's dismay.

Netflix's Lin would go "Aww... wait." cus she's seen her SWK in baby form, and knows how chaotic one of these stinkers can be. Warms up to Luzhen tho, may even start to see him as her own little bro.

Remaining new names in the official Investigations 2 Localisation - Cases 1-3

This is the 68th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 13 days left until release!

Today's topic: the remaining new names in the official Investigations 2 localisation from cases 1-3!

Thanks to the release of the demo of the Investigations Collection and some very hard-working people we now know of all the remaining new names for the characters and cases in the official I2 localisation. Since there are so many names to discuss I'm going to divide this into two posts, one for the cases 1-3 and one for cases 4+5, because most of the names we already know of (that I discussed in previous countdown posts) are from the first two cases. First, the names of the characters:

Bastian Rook (for Ethan Rooke): His last name was already known and I've talked about how I don't like that it's just the name of the chess piece he's supposed to represent, I prefer the fan translation for that one, it's a little bit less on the nose (same with "Knight" and "Knightley"). His first name sounds similar to bastion, a fortified building, which fits what the rook is and Rooke's job as a bodyguard protecting his "king". His first name in the fan translation has a similar connotation meaning "safe and strong". Between those two I don't really have a preference, they're both good choices for his first name.

Samson Tangaroa (for Jeffrey Masters): A very drastic change! His official name has a more elaborate meaning with both parts referencing mythical figures: Samson to the judge in the bible who lost his superhuman strength and was subsequently imprisoned, fitting Masters' own imprisonment, and Tangaroa to a Māori god of the sea, fitting the nautical theme of his chocolate desserts in the contest. In contrast, his fan translated name is a play on "master chef" (even going as far as giving him the nickname "Master Jeff") and not much more. Purely from the meaning his official name is obviously better but I prefer the sound of his fan translated one. It sounds more like a complete name instead of two that just got stuck together, though that might change once I read his official name in context a few times.

Judy Bound (for Katherine Hall): In this case the name puns are about equal, the official localisation goes for "duty bound" referencing her loyalty to Masters whereas the fan translation goes for "catering hall" (even more so with her nickname "Kate") keeping the mansion reference from her Japanese name and the chef theme with Masters. However, I vastly prefer her fan translated name because it's so much more elegant! Her present design doesn't fit "Judy" at all but it perfectly fits "Katherine", her past self might fit but it also fits "Kate" perfectly, and I love the contrast between the two and how much of her personality gets conveyed through it. I hope her official full name is "Judith" or something similar to get a little bit of the same sentiment across.

Carmelo Gusto (for Dane Gustavia): For Gustavia's name the change isn't as drastic but still significant. His official first name is a shortened version of "caramello" which is Italian and translates to caramel referencing his candy making. "Gusto" comes from Latin "gustus" which translates to taste, very fitting considering his business and his taste issues, and doing something "with gusto" means doing it with a lot of passion which is exactly what Gustavia has for his goal of becoming the greatest pastry chef alive. His fan translated name has his last name going for the same association with taste, "Gustavia" sounds similar to "gustatory" which comes from the same Latin source. "Dane" is a reference to "danish (pastry)", the English name for a type of pastry from Denmark keeping to his pastry chef theme. I also like the interpretation of his name referencing Gustavus Swift who apparently invented the first refrigerated railroad car which is wonderfully hilarious considering what Gustavia does in the case. I don't really mind his official name, it's a good choice, but I slightly prefer the fancier sound of "Gustavia" from the fan translation.

Delicia Scone (for Delicia Scones): Not much to talk about with this one, the names are almost the same and just use her Japanese name without changing much (referencing "delicious scone" like the British quick bread). I don't think the change from "Scones" to "Scone" makes any difference and I like that both the official localisation and the fan translation chose "Delicia" as her first name, it fits her well.

Artie Frost (for Isaac Dover): The meaning of his official name is pretty obvious, "Artie" referencing his job and talent as an artist and "Frost" referencing his work with ice and his corpse being frozen. His fan translated name focuses more on the "ice" part with "Isaac Dover" being a play on "iced over" which is, again, the type of dessert he uses in the contest (sherbet) and how his corpse was hidden. I hate to repeat myself but yet again I slightly prefer his fan translated name because it sounds more serious and mature and not like a nickname. (Artie? Couldn't they at least have gone for "Artus" or something and have Delicia use "Arty" as a nickname?)

Paul Halique (for Pierre Hoquet): With this name they couldn't change around too much because the initials still had to be "PH" for the signet ring to make sense. The official localisation just used an alternate spelling of his Japanese name (Paul Holic) while the name in the fan translation doesn't have any meaning associated with it that makes sense in the game's context apart from just sounding nice. In that sense the official localisation easily wins with this one.

And now for the case names (my discussion for the new name of the first case is here):

The Captive Turnabout (for The Imprisoned Turnabout): Nothing to complain about here, "captive" and "imprisoned" mean almost the same thing. They both sound great as well, I don't prefer one over the other.

Turnabout Legacy (for The Inherited Turnabout): Wow, that official name is amazing! I love the fan translated name, don't get me wrong, and it fits but the official one has such a weight to it - Legacy - you really feel how significant this case is, to Miles in particular but also to the series as a whole. Its impact cannot be overstated and the official name absolutely does it justice. Perfect choice for one of the best cases in the entire series!

Pre-G1 Modules, part 2 - Palace of the Vampire Queen and DK1-3

Asterisk 1: The first standalone module, Palace of the Vampire Queen

I'm trying really hard to not get TOO bogged down in exterior details to the adventures themselves, but a small preamble about Wee Warriors. Wee Warriors was a little company that was born to publish DND supplements. They were one of many, there were many zines and magazines and fan supplements going around, for example Judge's Guild forms at roughly the same time. They worked with TSR after a while to publish these things, so they were unofficial-but-official in a weird way. Early DND culture functions less like a business and more like a hobby community. Most of the early DND people knew each other in some capacity, it's only when DND got really far away from Lake Geneva that distinct cultures started forming island effect-style.

Good enough, let's keep going.

Our preamble gives us the basic of the adventure, dwarf island harangued by vampire queen, the undead keep abducting people to eat their blood. Conspicuously absent is any kind of information about a suggested level or party size.

It's cute, right? The styling is so welcome and loving in a way that TSR products will not have for a long, long time.

It's very rote, lots of very basic traps and stocked rooms. Not much to see he--

T-telepathic kittens that improve your morale? This is one of those moments where you just instantly know. The hobby isn't as different as you might thing. This is the exact sort of adorable shit you'd see on one of those big streamer shows. We all love our cats. They are our strength.

There genuinely isn't much to say about the rest of the module, other than that there is a shocking amount of child murder. There is an evil castle with a vampiress in it and you gotta go whack people til you can claim the reward money. About the most interesting twist you'll find in here is that there's a fakeout queen, and that the genuine queen will immediately take the (unnamed) dwarf princess hostage to secure her escape. I do appreciate that, if you're going to make every room just be a combat encounter with loot in it, the decision to make the key a table with room/creatures/max damage/description is sound. I'm kind of surprised this table-style key never caught on, given the 'doom monster closets' design that typifies a lot of early DND.

I wish that there was a great revelation waiting here for you, that the first non-TSR adventure was a forgotten classic? But it's really not. It's some monster-stocked rooms with the rare trap, and a vague preamble. Temple of the Frog showed a lot more creativity. I am kind of strangely fond of these lovingly inked maps though, it makes me long for hand-inked maps again. The Dungeon Master's Kit product line continues for two more entries (The Dwarven Glory and The Misty Isles) to form a soft trilogy.

Bonus Round: Skimming the rest of the Wee Warriors Dungeon Master's Kits

So the thing about the DK product line is that it's not very interesting. But since I had to get a copy, I'm making it your problem by talking about them more.

Everything about this room fascinates me. There is so much going on here that isn't explained. And then you keep going to room F7:

Again, nothing is fucking explained. The monsters are in conflict because why not? There's actually a great idea in here, (although again, why is child murder so prevalent?)

There are wisps of interesting narrative here, but all that's actually presented is like…the end-state? "Evil high priest who is abusing a tragedy to push his agenda" is a solid plot point. The idea that returning the treasure can cause conflict is great. But also, holy shit 500k gp diamond. That's enough exp to max your character in one fell swoop???

Moving onto Misty Isles, this is more of a…. setting than a module per-se. There's some implied plots I suppose. Here's some of the weirdest things:

The leader of the dwarves on one island is implied to be gay, which is a strange decision given how we don't have any other practical information about him, and has melted all his gold into one pile

A profit-prophet who gives oracles for bribes

Many, many dwarf seems to have access to actual modern day machine guns?

A band of monks are looking for a girl stolen by zombies. Why….did they steal her? Why is there hope of rescuing her? They're zombies, they're going to eat her!

I cannot do this justice myself:

That's….that's a lot. You want to randomly roll for nearly 600 magical objects? Sometimes designers Simply Say Words. The "My PC is the most bestest guy ever and could never be defeated" stories you hear people whinging about take a very different context when you realize there's just, GMs running around handing people literally 600 random magical items. Eventually you're going to roll and get the best items in the game. Note also, literally zero way of detecting any of the traps.

This random paragraph implies the existence of gamemaster-less play, a thing I guess could hypothetically exist with the degree of randomization, but. What?

Absolute queen shit. You go succubus lady! And the fairytale logic is cute cus, if the party got mad when they found out about this, they could always give her weight from some magic bullshit, like turning her into lead. Oops!

And it just goes on and on. There's a Cthulhu reference, there's a party of fighters who casually want to rape women (why were 70s gamers like this), the obligatory slavery character, et c. It's not the first setting released for DND, there are multiple people in front of this, I believe Empire of the Petal Throne won overall [fuck MAR Barker, nazi scum], and City State of the Invincible Overlord certainly predates it by a year. In 2024, it's a pretty tedious read. It reads like a list of ideas, because it is. There's some maps, but the maps are very sparse.

In Cannes, top creative leaders from across Edelman, IPG, Omnicom, Publicis and WPP joined forces on stage to deliver one of the most high profile briefs the industry has seen, impacting the lives of up to 4 billion people. The ask? To create a culture-defying programme, experience, campaign that could erase the stigma and insecurity of cancer at work.

Today, Monday 10th July, The Big C brief officially opens for entries. 

The brief invites the entire industry and beyond, as individuals or duos within one agency or cross-agencies, to create a campaign that will launch on World Cancer Day 2024, in a global multi-media campaign supported by $100m. 

Powered by Cannes Lions’ world class judging systems, judging will be led by senior creative and strategy leads across the five holding companies including: Susan Credle (global chair & global chief creative officer, FCB), Chaka Sobhani (global CCO of Leo Burnett), Luiz Sanches (CCO of BBDO NA), Judy John (global CCO of Edelman) and Debbi Vandeven (global CCO of VMLY&R) .
