KERBER & OMICILLe son de Randy Kerber et Jowee Omicil, câest Ă la fois quelque chose qui vient de trĂšs loin et qui nous parle de trĂšs prĂšs, qui prend son temps et se dĂ©veloppe lentement, oĂč la souplesse aĂ©rienne vient se marier aux forces telluriques. Avec lâalbum « Y PATI », qui paraĂźtra le 11 dĂ©cembre sur le label KOMOS, les deux musiciens qui sâĂ©taient rencontrĂ©s sur le tournage de la sĂ©rie âThe Eddyâ, signent un superbe album de jazz ambient expĂ©rimental.
Cette poĂ©sie onirique est le fruit de la rencontre du saxophoniste Jowee Omicil et du claviĂ©riste-compositeur Randy Kerber. Le premier, nĂ© en 1977 Ă MontrĂ©al et rĂ©sidant aujourdâhui Ă Paris, est dâorigine haĂŻtienne (on peut dâailleurs lâentendre chanter en crĂ©ole sur les titres « GrenadiĂ© » et « La Gonave »). PassĂ© par le Berklee College of Music, il a jouĂ© aux cĂŽtĂ©s de Branford Marsalis, Marcus Miller, Tony Allen ou encore Francisco Mella et a dĂ©jĂ enregistrĂ© 5 albums en son nom propre.
Le second, nĂ© en 1958 en Californie, est sans doute lâun des musiciens les plus Ă©coutĂ©s au monde (bien que rares sont ceux qui le connaissent). En effet, outre sa carriĂšre aux cĂŽtĂ©s de Lionel Hampton, Don Ellis, B.B. King ou mĂȘme Michael Jackson, Randy Kerber a enregistrĂ© en tant que claviĂ©riste pour plus de 800 bandes originales de films, parmi lesquelles Titanic, Forrest Gump, les trois premiers Harry Potter, La La Land, La Couleur Pourpre⊠Randy, câest ce musicien invisible mais prĂ©sent partout.
Les légÚres dissonances avec le saxophone finissent de parfaire le tableau spectral de ce qui apparaßt comme étant à la fois une ode à Albert Ayler et aux orchestres jazz des années 30.
Leur rencontre, Jowee Omicil et Randy Kerber la doivent dâailleurs au cinĂ©ma. Car câest sur le tournage de la sĂ©rie « The Eddy », produite par Damien Chazelle pour Netflix, que les deux artistes ont croisĂ© leurs chemins. Attentif Ă lâalchimie entre les deux acteurs-musiciens, câest le directeur du label de jazz KOMOS, Antoine Rajon, qui les a rĂ©unis au studio Pigalle Ă la faveur dâun mois de juillet dĂ©confinĂ©. Le cinĂ©ma semble ainsi irriguer leur crĂ©ation : difficile de ne percevoir, en particulier sur le titre « Ascenseur 2020 » (disponible sur Bandcamp), lâinfluence de Miles Davis et de sa B.O. dâAscenseur pour lâĂ©chafaud. On y retrouve quelque chose de ces ambiances sonores un peu brumeuses dâoĂč se dĂ©tachent les improvisations toutes en intensitĂ©, ici dâune trompette, lĂ -bas dâun saxophone alto.
Cet album est aussi un vĂ©ritable rĂ©gal pour les amoureux de claviers. Pour obtenir ces sons atmosphĂ©riques, Randy Kerber est allĂ© chercher ce qui se fait de mieux dans cette nouvelle gĂ©nĂ©ration de synthĂ© qui dĂ©cuple les capacitĂ©s dâexpression des pianistes en rendant chaque touche sensible aux mouvements du doigts : un vĂ©ritable instrument total qui permet au claviĂ©riste de reproduire ou de transfigurer les capacitĂ©s de modulation sonore dâun flĂ»tiste, dâun guitariste, dâun accordĂ©oniste⊠Parmi ces synthĂ©s rĂ©volutionnaires, on peut donc entendre sur lâalbum lâExpressive E Osmose et le Haken Continuum, mais surtout le gĂ©nie de Randy Kerber qui se transforme, avec ces beaux jouets, en homme-orchestre.
Pour cette exclu, on a choisi de vous prĂ©senter « Luxologie », un titre un peu Ă part, dont la tonalitĂ© lumineuse dĂ©note avec le mystĂšre ambiant des autres morceaux. Ici, ce ne sont pas les synthĂ©s derniĂšre gĂ©nĂ©ration quâa choisis Randy Kerber mais lâancĂȘtre du Mellotron, le Chamberlin (un instrument Ă clavier Ă©lectromĂ©canique), seul capable de produire cet instrumentation rĂ©tro Ă souhait. Les lĂ©gĂšres dissonances avec le saxophone finissent de parfaire le tableau spectral de ce qui apparaĂźt comme Ă©tant Ă la fois une ode Ă Albert Ayler et aux orchestres jazz des annĂ©es 30. Un album Ă ne pas manquer et dont la sortie est prĂ©vue pour le 11 dĂ©cembre.

On March 4th, at 9:30 pm, Gashford Guillaume (@gashfordg) brings his finely tuned drumming and song writing style to our stage. He has opened a new chapter in #worldmusic â a style that fuses traditional #Haitian rhythms with the smooth, syncopated beats of one of the worldâs most beloved art forms: #jazz.
Creole Fusion Ensemble's music will feature his various compositions and arrangements. Inspired by these various genres of music, a listen will reveal their funk, pop, soul and Afro-Caribbean music influences. Gashford will be joined by long time friend and dynamic vocalist Zaxai (pronounced Zah-Ky), who was a finalist on the hit television show, THE VOICE. This show promises to take you on an amazing musical journey.
Gashfordâs musical influence has been felt far and wide. He has played with artists such as: James Germain, Eric Virgal, Orlane, Eddy Brissaux, Chardavoine, Gifrants, Yanick Etien, Felina Backer, Claude Aurelien, Michael Philips, Revelation, Lataye, Tjovi Ginen, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Calyn, Morena, The Altino Brothers, Jephte Guillaume, and the Tet Kale Orkestra, Illogical Poetry, Eric Mcdaniels, Dickson Guillaume & the New York State Haitian Interdenominational Mass Choir, Jowee Omicil, Buyu Ambroise & the Blues in Red Band. Currently, Gashford is at the epicenter of a rapidly growing Haitian Jazz Movement.
