synopsis: A werewolf and a bunny seem like a terrible match and would have no chance of working. however you can't argue with fate and if joshua gets a cute cottontail mate he doesn't seem to mind. At least that what his brothers believe when they watch joshua stare at his bunny mate with the most adoring look in his eyes as she showed him the four leaf clover she found in the garden. Who were they to question the moon goddess anyways.

"Where am I from?" She asked with a head tilt and Joshua nodded taking the seat next to her. She hummed turning her body slightly towards him.

"China. Originally at least! That's where my Mom and dad is too! but i haven't seen them since i was maybe 5 years old?" She explained to him moving her hands around as she explained.

"not that i'm complaining but if your parents are in china how'd you get here?" Joshua asked and she pouted slightly shaking her head.

"i don't want you to get sad." she mumbled looking down at her hands that were now sat in her lap and picked at the skin on her fingers. Joshua noticing this frowned and grabbed her hands holding them in his.

"i think i'll be okay, i'd really like to know more about you.. if that's okay with you.." he told her and she looked up at him and nodded slightly with a sigh.

"My mom and dad were adopted at a hybrid shelter in china by some very wealthy people for their daughter. Well they ended up having me over time along with a few brothers and sisters." Y/n started looking bad at their hands now intertwined tracing his knuckles with her fingers.

"Well it turns out their family wasn't wealthy for no reason. They only wanted to keep my mom and dad and then one of my sisters for later breeding. When she was old enough. And once we were old enough to be taken from our mothers they sold the rest of us to a hybrid trafficking ring...." Joshua tensed at her words suddenly wanting to squeeze her impossibly tight to himself as if to protect her from the painful memories she was reliving.

"Bunnies tend to go very fast, especially female bunnies because of our reputation with heats. So i was bought pretty quickly from and international deal here in korea.. but because I wasn't old enough for my heat and still had years of waiting I didn't get my heats. That made my old master really angry." The girls ears dropped almost to hide herself and it only filled joshua with rage and sadness he was almost sure she would be able to sense it through the mating bond.

Needing to be impossibly closer to his mate joshua pulled her chair nearer to him and wrapped his arms around her smaller figure. She gave him a soft smile linking her hands with his again when she had the chance.

"Because of this he made me his personal servant, i wasn't the only one tho there was another hybrid, an older girl she was a cat, because i was so young at the time she acted as an older sister to me.. almost a mother? She felt sorry for me a lot and hated the abuse he would put me through and after a couple of years she got sick of it. She made a plan to get me out of there." Y/n explained to joshua finally looking at him again.

"Because i was the runt of my siblings when i turn i'm very small. she took advantage of that joshua the next time she was to pack a car of one of his guest she was going to smuggle me out. it worked i was able to get out but i was trapped in the trunk for a while longer than expected, so when the trunk finally opened and i had the chance i escaped and ran into the forest and i've been here for years." She finished explaining to him and he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Wait... years?" he asked and she nodded. "how come i've only been able to sense you now.." he asked her and she shrugged.

"Well, i'm finally of age for my heats... i turned 18 three days ago, maybe it's the same for mates? is that what you called it. Maybe we can't sense each other until a certain point of maturity.." She explained to him and his eyes widened slightly. She's still so young.

"I missed your birthday?" he asked and she shrugged

"i mean it's not like you knew.." she mumbled and he's hooked his head still somehow disappointed in himself.

"how did you celebrate?" he asked and she furrowed her eyebrows again.

"what do you mean celebrate?"

"like.. a birthday party?" he asked her and she taped slightly.

"what's that?!"

"Wow. She's a clueless little thing isn't she."

Joshua grumbled rolling his eyes.

"Jeonghan.. seriously?" The younger mumbled and jeonghan chuckled slightly.

"don't worry it's adorable, heartbreaking yet adorable. You're gonna be a handful." Jeonghan told the girl.

"I hope when you get mated it's someone who despises you." Josh mumbled to his brother and he only laughed in response.

"Oh please i'm sure my mate will me a saint!"

"Oh! you said you were from china right?" Josh asked and she nodded quickly.

"I think a couple of my brothers would love to meet you!" Josh smiled at her and her cheeks seemed to redden a bit at it. her ears quickly dripping in front of her face.

Intelligence may be located in the brain, but it affects other parts of the anatomy. Consider the pelvis as a secret theater where thinking and walking meet and, according to some anatomists, conflict. One of the most elegant and complicated parts of the skeleton, it is also one of the hardest to perceive, shrouded as it is in flesh, orifices and preoccupations. The pelvis of all other primates is a long vertical structure that rises nearly to the ribcage and is flattish from back to front. The hip joints are close together, the birth canal opens backwards, and the whole bony slab faces down when the ape is in its usual posture, as do the pelvises of most quadrupeds. The human pelvis has tilted up to cradle the viscera and support the weight of the upright body, becoming a shallow vase from which the stem of the waist rises. It is comparatively short and broad, with wide-set hipjoints. This width and the abductor muscles that extend from the iliac crests--the bone on each side that sweeps around towards the front of the body just below the navel--steady the body as it walks. The birth canal points downward, and the whole pelvis is, from the obstetrical point of view, a kind of funnel through which babies fall--though this fall is one of the most difficult of human falls. If there is a part of anatomical evolution that recalls Genesis, it is the pelvis and the curse "in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children."

Giving birth for apes, as for most mammals, is a relatively simple process, but for humans it is difficult and occasionally fatal for mother and child. As hominids evolved, their birth canals became smaller, but as humans have evolved, their brains have grown larger and larger. At birth the human infant's head, already containing a brain as big as that of an adult chimpanzee, strains the capacity of this bony theater. To exit, it must corkscrew down the birth canal, now facing forward, now sideways, now backwards. The pregnant woman's body has already increased pelvic capacity by manufacturing hormones that soften the ligaments binding the pelvis together, and toward the end of pregnancy the cartilege of the pubic bone separates. Often these transformations make walking more difficult during and after giving birth.

It has been argued that the limitation on our intelligence is the capacity of the pelvis to accomodate the infant's head, or contrarily that the limitations on our mobility is the need for the pelvis to accomodate birth. Some go further to say that the adaptation of the female pelvis to large-headed babies makes women worse walkers than men, or makes all of us worse walkers than our small-brained ancestors. The belief that women walk worse is widespread throughout the literature of human evolution. It seems to be another hangover from Genesis, the idea that women brought a fatal curse to the species, or that they were mere helpmeets along the evolutionary route, or that if walking is related to both thinking and freedom they have or deserve less of each. If learning to walk freed the species--to travel to new places, to take up new practices, to think--then the freedom of women has often been associated with sexuality, a sexuality that needs to be controlled and contained. But this is morality, not physiology.

I got so annoyed by the ambiguous record on gender and walking that early one fine morning in Joshua Tree, while the cottontails were hopping in the yard, I called up Owen Lovejoy. He pointed to some differences between male and female anatomy that, he said, ought to make women's pelvises less well adapted to walking. "Mechanically," he said, "women are less advantaged." Well, I pressed, do these differences actually make a practical difference? No, he conceded, "it has no effect on their walking ability at all," and I walked back out into the sunshine to admire a huge desert tortoise munching on the prickly pear in the driveway.

Stern and Sussman had laughed when I asked them whether women were indeed worse walkers and said that as far as they knew, no one had ever done the scientific experiments that would back up this assertion. Great runners tend to converge in certain body types, whichever gender they are, they ruminated, but walking is not running, and the question of what constitutes greatness there is more ambiguous. What, they asked, does better mean? Faster? More efficiently? Humans are slow animals, they said, and what we excel at is distance, sustaining a pace for hours or days.

The World Is Ending

... so I took a few days off from the blog. The skies have been just blue all the time and temperatures in the mountains of southern Kern County have been in the 70s to low 80s at the most. Last night, the temperature dipped down to 43 degrees according to our thermometer. Hottest year on record!! There have been almost no “planes” overhead except for our evening visitor which flies over us a little before 8pm and 15 minutes later, flies over LA. As he flies over our house his contrail disappears.

This year, wild sunflowers are blooming in the washes. There are a variety of wild flowers in different colors in the native plant garden and the woods. The desert cottontail rabbits are so prolific that we even saw them in Joshua Tree for the first time back in May. Our yard hosts dozens of quails, even more than last year. Last year two ring necked pigeons visited our feeder and this year there have been as many as 20 at a time. We even saw two in Los Angeles for the first time ever a couple of months ago. The world is ending all right.

Y/n was buzzing with excitement as she hopped around in her small warren.

What was that feeling? Why did that boy smell so good! i can't wait to see him again oh jeez... how did he know i was there? can he smell me? is he a bunny too!!

Y/n thumped her paw against the dirt of her warren before allowing the buzzing feeling in her to lull her to sleep as she thought about the gentle looking boy in the beautiful yard.

Joshua grumbled as he woke up from a very restless night as his inner wolf hardly let him sleep. All he could think about was finding his mate and when she would show herself again. well maybe not show but make an appearance so he could find her. she must've been a fast little thing if she was able to get out of his reach so quickly that even his sense couldn't pick up her scent.

The sun finally shone through his window lighting up his bedroom showing the next day had arrived when joshua sat up in his bed rubbing his face with his hands tiredly.

clanking was heard from the kitchen assuming Jeonghan was already awake so Joshua made his way to the sound.

"ah! morning roomie!" Jeonghan greeted his younger brother with a grin as he made space by the sink for joshua to splash his face with some water.

"so i was thinking and i believe i found a solution to our little rodent problem!" Jeonghan smirk and Joshua tilted his head confused.

"what rodent problem we don't have any rodents around here." Joshua mumbled to the elder and Jeonghan quirked his eyebrow and grinned.

"oh but we do! don't you remember our visit we had from a little bunny!" the blond stated.

Once it clicked that it was his mate jeonghan was calling a rodent the deep growl rumbled in his chest louder than the night before.

"okay okay jeez not a rodent! that little thing got you wrapped around her cottontail quick." he teased and joshua rolled his eyes growing annoyed. "anyways as i was saying, maybe we should leave some carrots out by the brush to sensed her at." Jeonghan shrugged.

"aren't you suppose to be smart?" joshua mumbled and the blond gasped in offense.

"you wound me josh truly wound me."

Then he felt it. the buzzing. it was back and joshua didn't waste a second before rushing outside some of his brothers already outside relaxing in the sun.

"Yah! what's wrong with josh!?" mingyu asked as he held Hoshi in a headlock.

"he's tryna find his mate!" jeonghan shouted back and everyone who wasn't at the dinner last night gaped in surprise.

"MATE?" Seokmin screamed from behind a bush as he quickly sat up.

Joshua looked towards Seokmin smelling that alluring scent coming from him.

I recently spent a few days escaping the winter by heading south to the desert of Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California.

The sun was bright, the desert was warm during the day and the scenery was spectacular. I spent three nights camping, hiking and exploring with friends, but I wish I had more time there. There are just so many things to see in Joshua Tree! I’ve put together a list of must-do things for you.

1. Check out the Joshua Trees

In fact they aren’t technically trees since they have fibres instead of growth rings – they are part of the yucca plant family. The early Mormon settlers thought the trees looked like Joshua from the Bible raising his arms to the sky in prayer, hence the name: Joshua tree. And like snowflakes, I think no two are exactly alike. I spent hours taking photos of Joshua trees on my trip and I’m sure you’ll want to as well. Best Place to See Joshua Trees: Stop your car at any of the pull outs along Park Drive – the Joshua trees are pretty much everywhere in the northern section of the park.

2. Visit the Unique Rock Formations

If you’ve watched a western film or been on the Thunder Mountain Railroad ride at Disney, you’re familiar with the cartoonish landscape of piled round rocks. The park is covered in unique jumbles of rocks. Some of them are famous enough to have their own names and are tourist attractions! You can see it right from the park road. Arch Rock near White Tank campground is also cool, and it’s the only a half mile walk. Split Rock is a giant boulder with a split running through it (they named it well). You can drive right up to it.

3. Go For a Hike

There are tons of options for hiking from short nature walks to long treks so there’s something to suit every fitness level. Make sure to bring lots of water, a hat and sunscreen as the desert weather can be harsh, even in the winter. This 1.5 mile loop goes past a dam and some pictograms and takes about 45 minutes. For a longer and more challenging hike I liked the trail to the Willow Hole. It’s an out and back trip of 7 miles that leaves the desert on the Boy Scout Trail and heads deep into the Wonderland of Rocks to a subsurface oasis of willows. There’s lot of interesting vegetation, plus you might see wildlife.

4. Try to Spot Some Wildlife

While the desert can look uninhabited, it’s actually home to lots of wildlife. You just need to slow down, be quiet and know where to look. On my visit I saw a gray fox, coyotes, lizards, cottontail rabbits, Jack rabbits, ground squirrels, chipmunks, a golden eagle, hawks, quails, hummingbirds and bats. There are also rattlesnakes, scorpions, tarantulas and mountain lions in the park, but I wasn’t enthusiastic about running into them. If you camp in the park you’re likely to see some of the more common animals that hang around the campgrounds. These include rabbits, ground squirrels and chipmunks. You might also hear bats chirping or coyotes howling at night. Your best chance to see big horn sheep and other more reclusive wildlife is to venture into the Wonderland of Rocks on the Boy Scout Trail or the Willow Hole Trail.

5. Camp in the Desert

You can imagine the desert as being bathed in sunlight, but you experienced it until you saw it at night when the stars appeared and the heat of the day disappeared. The best way to do that is to camp. Most of them have no water or flush toilets, so camping is a rustic experience. But it is worth it. Camping is popular so book in advance or plan to arrive early to try to get to the first place first served. For more adventurous, you can also camp in the park.

6. Watch the Rock Climbers

Climbing is one of the most popular activities in Joshua Tree National Park and climbers travel here from all over the world. Many climbers will spend a few weeks here each winter, enjoying the mild weather and living in their trucks. There are more than 8000 hiking routes set up in the park! See climbers can be really entertained as they climb seemingly impossible cliffs. The best places to see rock climbers in Joshua Tree National Park: There are plenty of hiking areas in the park so you can see people climbing or pebbles in almost everywhere.

7. Visit the Cactus Garden

The cactus garden is full of cholla teddy cactus. These seemingly faint cacti are also nicknamed Jumping cactus because if you rub them, the parts of the cacti will break and stick to your skin or clothes. There are also a lot of other desert plants in the cactus garden, but there are just LOTS of cacti that are hard to see.

8. Check out the Panorama at Keys View

Position the drive up to 5185 feet to the View key for panoramic views south. From there you can see Palm Springs, the Salton Sea and even the Signal Mountains in Mexico. My advice for stargazing at Joshua Tree National Park: Even when the desert is warm during the day, the temperature drops at night so please wear warm clothes. Choose a cloudless night and avoid the full moon. If you want to take photos of the night sky, you will need a tripod and a manual mode for long exposure photography.

10. Drink a Date Shake

Shields Date Garden in Indio is where it all started. It’s a 40 minute drive from the Cottonwood Visitor Centre at the southern edge of the park to Shields. If that’s too far to go, don’t worry. They’re delicious!
