Oooooooooo that's a REALLY fun idea
I'm in love with the idea of using Consequences/Cause And Effect as a big central idea for this AU, and it works perfectly with my vision of what I want this to be. There's the fun duality of both Yukako and the Class President not realizing there were consequences, but when faced with them Yukako decided to learn from her mistakes while CP just tried to take it even further
it would also be really fun to play with just how much of her being an antagonist is her fault. Of Yukako acknowledging her mistakes and maybe even apologizing for what she'd done and started, but also there being an understanding that while Yukako might have started it, ever single decision up to this point had been the CP's own. She chose to escalate things to this point, chose to hurt Koichi out of revenge, to ally herself with powerful enemies just to hurt them
she isn't evil person, but she's definitely not a good one either
and intangibility could be V E R Y fun to play with, especially with the possibly backlash A La Jojo Stand Rules™
what if, to keep going with the Cause/Affect stuff, she can control how things affect each other but misinterprets what it actually is? She interprets it as intangibility, but what's actually happening is an ability similar to Kraft Work. Whatever's happening to the object is being stored and saved up to be activated later, and can be layered. The stored effects can be activated all at once or slowly over time, depending on what the User decides
this can also be a fun parallel to her situation. If the CP had been aware of her powers, she would've had a much easier time fighting. She could've absorbed the injuries she sustained and slowly over the course of the fight let them appear and thus conserve her energy while also keeping herself in good shape. But instead what happens is her running out of stamina or just reaching her limit of how much it could take, and suddenly it exploded outward
if it's the second one, it could also add an interesting aspect to the fight of how even though Yukako was angry........ she wasn't actually trying to hurt the CP too badly. It was mostly a lot of chasing and corner her, at worst disable her so she'd be stuck
but then of course Koichi is freed, and he's confused and more than a little terrified. And the first thing he sees upon being let out is Yukako slightly injured and out of breath, Tonio and Joseph trying to help, and the same girl who used a Stand to manipulate him without him knowing
it's only natural he lashes out
(also, separate from all this I've been trying to come up possible ideas for names since she........ REALLY needs one at this point, but I've got nothing ;-; so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to share-)
Oh I had. A thought for the Cinderella Rewrite AU. Because now there's a girl out there who is extraordinarily pissed at Yukako, right?
Well that's great for Yoshihiro Kira who is trying to find people willing to distract the Morioh Gang from hunting down and finding his son. And this girl already has a grudge against one of them? Perfect Enemy Stand potential!
There are so many ways this plotline could go which is amazing. Does the girl learn the error of her ways or remain stubborn, becoming a shadow archetype to Yukako, someone unwilling to settle her feelings in a healthy way? Does Koichi beat her or does Yukako? Does this happen on The Thursday? If so, does Yukako reluctantly drag in someone like Hazamada to help or does she try to go it alone only to fail and need the help of, say, Joseph or Tonio?
Speaking of which, if it isn't on The Thursday, where is Yukako during All Of That?
OOOOOOOOOOO THAT'S A FUN IDEA TO GO WITH AND A GREAT WAY TO TURN THIS INTO A THREE SECTION ARC 👀👀👀
While I have no idea what her Stand could be, I LOVE the idea of her being turned into a Stand User and getting involved in The Thursday. Maybe she ends up teaming up with Terunosuke in the kidnapping of Koichi and it sorta skews how everything goes. What her Stand is will definitely impact how things are going, but with how we've created her there are. So many possibilities and I'm not sure which would be best. I do think it should be more inclined to trickery than straight up power but other than that I've got nothing
ANYWAYS tho, as for how this ties into things and redirects them: maybe the girl (also, we really need to give her a name don't we) was set up to work with Terunosuke, but under the condition that Koichi and Yukako were hers. Teru does his thing and kidnaps Koichi and Tomoko, but he ends up passing Paper Koichi off to the girl
Josuke, Okuyasu, Yukako and Yuya are all going to temporarily be together and chasing after Terunosuke, but maybe somewhere during the chase the girl ends up jumping them and goads Yukako into a fight. Yukako tells the others to go on ahead and keep chasing after Teru and that she'll catch up later. It only after they've left that Yukako learns Koichi is actually here. I'd imagine their fight is a lot of chasing and shouting, and personally I really like the possibility of Tonio and Joseph getting involved, though I'm not super sure how
Koichi definitely gets freed at some point, and when he joins the fight there's a noticeable difference in the tide. After all, out of the four of them Koichi has the 2nd most combat experience (plus, Joseph's gotten a bit nerfed because of his age) and isn't afraid to pull his punches if he genuinely believes he's in danger. He's had like. Three near death experiences at this point, two of which could be argued were just flat out death, plus who knows how many other fights where his friends were in danger. Koichi knows what's at risk here and he's not going to let anyone else get hurt if he can help it. (Now, he's not going for lethal shots, but he's definitly aiming to hurt)
and maybe that's how Tonio and Joseph get involved? For safety and potential back up, Koichi and Yukako ended up running to Tonio's since it was the closest place and Joseph just happened to be there (Shizuka is fine tho, she's Jotaro at the moment), and they end up getting wrapped into things
for the resolution of this, I'll admit I really want to play into the fact that this girl has no IDEA what's actually going on or how much is actually at stake here, and how her ignorance to it has consequences. She's far from blameless of course, she did do some really fucked up shit in the past and now, but she also had no idea she's gotten involved with serial killers who are looking to do far worse than high school bullying. She'd been so wrapped up in her own little world of getting revenge that she hadn't thought to think Hey Maybe The Weird Picture Man With The Arrow Doesn't Have My Best Interests At Heart
Now does this mean she gets off scott free? No, and to be honest given the amount of property damage and kidnapping and manipulation she's done she's definitely going to be on the Foundation's radar, double especially because she's a User who was again, working for a known serial killer (albeit unknowingly)
but finally, after weeks and weeks of all of this happening, she finally gets to see how there's more to this world that her immediate circle and there are going to be concesuqences for her actions

*****
We miss U Charlie Watts!!
*****
The Stones performed at a private party for Patriots owner Robert Kraft of all people. The test run looked like just that. Shark jumped. I am becoming disillusioned.
*****
SNL is back with Owen Wilson as first host of season 47. Kacey Musgraves is the musical guest. Episode 2 will have a ridic choice for host. Halsey will sing. I suppose $ is power with the Kardashians. I could think of about 10 million other people to host but more and more Lorne goes for the shiny object , what he THINKS people want instead of taking risk. Beck Bennett is out.
*****
Is everybody watching the Amber Ruffin Show?? I loved her before but now… I learn so much from her show. Sometimes it takes a comic to get to the real serious shit. For example: Have you heard of drowning towns? Towns like Oscarville, Kowaliga, York hill, Seneca Village, Prentiss and countless other black towns that were drowned out to make lakes for the local whites. Central Park was also made after a black community was erased from history. Development displacement? Alleyway dwelling authority? Even those rabid for history can find out new things everyday. Thanks Amber!!
*****

Is this country the master of endless administrative work? None of us should have been surprised at the red tape that the slowed down the end of the war in Afghanistan.** Uber donated 50k for rides and meals to the Afghans when they arrive.**And why do so many waste taxpayer $ on useless recounts and recalls when people need real help with food and healthcare? They must really hate humanity.

Days Alert: The Beyond Salem thing was ridic but it was so great to see some old characters. Days is so great at visiting old family. Who can resist Shane, Austin and Carrie, Billie and the old Kristen? I do wish that Peacock would get their kinks out!! Back to the real Days: Are we smelling an Emmy for Susan Seaforth Hayes and Bill?? ** Good to have Abigail back. It is always fun to wonder which actress and or personality it will be. ** Deidre Hall got her star on the walk of fame.**And just in time for Halloween, the Devil is making a comeback. The end of the year in Salem is always the best!! It is so brave to give the 96 year old man the old switcheroo into the Dark Lord. It was fun to see the grandkids discover Grandma Marlena’s story. Delicious!! Hail Satan!!** It is past time for Tate and Teresa to come back to town. Brady needs to be put in his place. And thanks for the Philip and Chloe flashbacks!!

The breakdown of the vaccinated: 90% of Atheists, 86% Hispanic Catholic, 84% Agnostic, 79% White Catholic, 73% White mainline protestant, 70% Black mainline protestant, 57% white evangelical. 1 in 500 Americans have died of Covid.

Simone Biles, Mckayla Maroney and Aly Rasiman testified at the Senate judiciary hearing about the FBI’s handling of accusations against Larry Nassar and it was eye opening!
*****
We wanted a no -nonsense Dem who pushes on and does not puss out. I am a bit surprised to see we have it. There are so many pressing issues that I hope Biden works a bit more on Haiti though.
*****
The National Police Act was passed to celebrate cops. Still no police reform.
*****
John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are going to have a baby.
*****
The Emmy’s were a little different this year with more of a Golden Globe look. Cedric the Entertainer hosted with Reggie Watts as DJ. Lots of minority noms but barely a win. It was a white people night. Ted Lasso had a great night. Mare of Eastown took home a few with Evan Peters, Julianne Nicholson and Kate Winslet. Now, Kate is great but how did Anya Taylor- Joy not walk away with that? Queens Gambit did win a couple and gave the longest speech with the seemingly arrogant director Scott Frank who opened up 2 page acceptance. Categories were tough but I was routing for Renee Elise Goldberry and Bowen Yang but perhaps next year. The people in England who had their own party for all the statues that the Crown won seemed to be having more fun! Hacks won for writing and directing and Jean Smart!! It was nice to see the Norm Macdonald love which was barely mentioned by Lorne but celebrated by John Oliver. Colbert ‘s election night special won as did JB Smoove. Hamilton won and Debbie Allen got the big one. I do not understand why real singers and or musicians have to be there for the in Memoriam. It takes me out of it a bit and concentrates the focus on them. Do they think that people will pay attention more? Do they want to keep the home audience or live audience from the bathroom? My best dressed were Anya Taylor-Joy, Michaela Cole who won for I may destroy you, Jean Smart, Josh O’Connor, Kathryn Hahn, Billy Porter, MJ Rodriguez, Keenan Thonpson, Leslie Odom Jr., Catherine O’Hara, Trevor Noah, Eugene Levy, Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, Bowen Yang, Anthony Anderson, Leslie Grossman, Amber Ruffin, Allyson Felix, Renee Elise Goldberry, Samira Wiley and Rege- Jean Page. My worst were Sarah Paulson, Gillian Anderson, Beanie Feldstein, Elizabeth Olsen and Aidy Bryant. To me the best part of the show was the enthusiasm of Conan and the way he injected himself into much of the evening .He was the show. Go Conan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*****
Next year there must be some Emmys for Sarah Paulson and Cobie Smulders in Impeachment!!!!!
*****
Oh Boy!! The Eyes of Tammy Faye!!

I noticed a commercial for Dancing with the Stars. Are we onto the E list because I have heard of hardly any of these people. ‘Stars’is really stretching it. And as I post this I see there are some covid issues there as well.
*****
Virgin River was renewed for 2 more seasons.
*****
Trevor Noah is right? Why do they stop giving lollipops to adults at the doctor?
*****
Jon Stewart is back on Apple tv with ‘The problem with Jon Stewart.
*****
Brooklyn 99 had about the best finale (other than Newhart) that I can recall. I had my fingers crossed that Chelsea would be back. Will they honor us like they did in the show and come back for a special about once a year? That would be fucking awesome!!
*****
Don’t expect compliments from an insecure person.- Mr. Pickles
*****
Thousands and thousands of people are in need. Haitian refugees and other immigrants have seen nothing like this what with assassination, a hurricane and earthquake. The Southern border is a mess.** Why does Fox news keep telling refugees the border is open as they sit back and laugh at Biden’s predicament. Spreading false info to intentionally hurt poor, distressed people has no end for them.
*****
Do companies know how fucked up their employment websites are? It is true that some people do not want to work. It is true that people schedule interviews and don’t show up. It is also true that companies have made it so hard to apply that many can’t. I suppose it is easier for them but the poor who may really want to work have a hard time. Paper applications are almost completely gone. The old fashioned way of walking into low paying job sites and finding a connection with a manager rarely exist. Some places only accept texts or have long ridiculous psych tests that a working Mother may not have time for. A Father working many hours already, may not be able to go to the library to get online if they cannot afford a computer. Many websites tell you that there no positions available in your area while there is a huge sign in front of the establishment. Can’t find people to work.. Gee I wonder why?? And treat people with respect once you find them, how about that?
*****
Keep your head up in failure, and your head down in success. –Jerry Seinfeld
*****
Hey.. There was a van air B’n B biz going that got busted. Hey.. The poor need vaca’s too. It is wrong but If they are willing to sleep in a van, why not. I truly think that many do not understand how much people are struggling.
*****
Free coffee day came and went but only a few places really gave you free coffee without rules to govern the promo. Some places wanted to sell you something else and some made you belong to their club. Starbucks held that customers had to come inside for the free cup of Joe, handicapped or not.
*****
One would think the Republicans would run out of $ for recounts but they have deep pockets. Just think how much good they could do for the huddled masses with that scratch.
*****
Sad to lose Mick Brigden, protégé of Bill Graham who managed The Stones and worked with Frampton, Dylan and Santana.** And the comics were very vocal about the loss of Norm Macdonald. He was one of a kind and he will be missed!
*****
R.I.P. Ruth Marx, Lee Scratch Perry, Willard Scott, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Isadore Bleckman, George Wein, Michael K. William,George Holliday, Anthony Johnson, Basil Hoffman, Al Harrington,Willie Garson, Mick Brigden, Tommy Kirk and Norm Macdonald.

youtube
youtube

Kaikilla T2-diabeetikoilla on insuliiniresistenssi
Kirjoittaja: Ari Kaihola
Olin hyvää vauhtia tulossa esidiabeetikoksi. Vuosi vuodelta veren paastosokeriarvo nousi nousemistaan ja lähestyi uhkaavasti arvoa 6, jonka ylitettyäni olisin virallisesti esidiabeetikko. 5.6 sitten 5.7 ja sitten 5.8. Jos olisin asunut USA:ssa, olisin jo muutaman vuoden täyttänyt kriteerit tuohon kategoriaan – siellä kun esidiabetes alkaa jo 5.5 (Taulukko 1 / ADA)ylittävi…

Die Frau des Buchhändlers (2): “Jahrestag” (1)
“Serviette” by RitaE
Kapitel 1
In Irland.

[Album] Moonchild Sanelly kündigt neues Album "Phases" an!
“I think that, with this album, I’ve managed to piece all the different parts of me together, because I’m known for different things in different parts of the world“, erzählt die südafrikanische Musikerin, die zuletzt 2020 die EP "Nüdes" veröffentlicht hatte. „I think you get to know me better with Phases - all the different sides of me.”
“Liberation for women, in the bedroom, in the boardroom, knowing your power… I need to be heard by a lot of people”.
Tracklist "Phases": 01. Undumpable 02. Demon (Ft. Sad Night Dynamite) 03. Cute (Ft. Trillary Banks) 04. April Fool’s Day 05. Strip Club (Ft. Ghetts) 06. Let It Rip 07. Over You 08. Money Tree 09.

“Practicing Forgiveness”
(The Hard Work of the How-to’s)
Get out your tuxedos and ballgowns, break out your spray tans and your Spanx, because tonight – it’s the Oscars! [Hooray for Hollywood. . . duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh Hollywood!] That’s right! Tonight, people who love movies will be watching with bated breath to see who will be wearing whom on the red carpet, who will perform during the ceremony, and who will win best sound editing – my favorite category. People will also be watching to see who will be in the audience, and which stars will be seated next to each other, and whether or not the stars are really just like us. One person who won’t be at the Oscars tonight – besides yours truly, unfortunately – will be the host of the show. That’s right, for the first time in a long time, there won’t be a host for this year’s Oscar ceremony. The comedian Kevin Hart was asked to host but there was a controversy around something that he had said several years ago. And even though he said he had apologized – years ago and in the years since – for a tasteless joke on Twitter that people didn’t like, apparently his multiple apologies as well as claims that he had evolved in his thinking weren’t enough. This controversy was going to distract from Hollywood’s big night, so Kevin Hart stepped down from the hosting gig, or he was asked to step down, or something. . . It gets a little confusing.
Now, I’m not going to say whether or not I think Kevin Hart should or should not have been able to host the Oscars. But I am going to say that when it comes to accusations, apologies, and forgiveness, we do live in interesting times. The rise of social media and the #MeToo and #blacklivesmatter movements as well as the extreme political polarization of our country and world have shown that if you have ever done anything perceived as wrong by a group of people – whether you have committed an actual crime or have simply done something offensive, even long ago, there is a pretty good chance that you will be held to account for it, publicly, whether you are Kevin Hart or Ralph Northam, R. Kelly or Robert Kraft. And, depending on how sorry you are, and the manner in which you apologize, and/or are punished, you might – just maybe – be forgiven, but not by everyone.
Just so you know, if there is any opportunity for us, as a society, to become more kind, I am all for it. And, based on the hurtful behavior – racist, sexist, and otherwise – of so many people over the years, it is past time for a reckoning and for people to be held to account for their words and actions. But, with all of these accusations and dark truths coming to light, is there a time and a place for forgiveness? Is it even possible to forgive anyone, anymore? As I said a moment ago, these are interesting times. But, forgiveness has always been interesting. . . and difficult. . .
Imagine this:
You come from a big family and, over the years, it has become clear that you are one of the favorite children – actually, thefavorite child. Your dad even gets you a special coat to wear, just as a sign that he thinks you are special. Well, your older siblings don’t like this very much and they don’t like you very much, so, at an opportune moment, when you are away from home, your siblings find you, beat you up, take your coat, throw you in a pit, and then sell you – for twenty pieces of silver – to some people who are going down to Egypt.[1] Your siblings then take your ripped up coat back to your father and tell him that you have been killed by wild animals.
No, this is not the plot of one of tonight’s Oscar-nominated films. This is just a little bit of the backstory to today’s reading from Genesis. Joseph was sold, by his brothers, into slavery and was taken to Egypt. But, over the course of the next few years, Joseph – by the grace of God – was lifted up from slavery to become second only to the king of Egypt. And, when there was a time of famine and food was in short supply, the kingdom of Egypt had plenty of food in storage because of Joseph.
People came from other countries in search of food, including Joseph’s older brothers, who did not realize that their little brother was still alive, much less that he was in such a powerful position. Oh, the irony! What a great plot twist! Imagine Joseph’s surprise when his brothers walked into the room, hats in hand, to ask for food. His brothers didn’t recognize him, at first, not even when Joseph was stern with them. Finally, Joseph couldn’t contain himself any longer. He broke down and cried, so that his weeping could be heard throughout the palace. When he was able to speak, he said – much to his brother’s shock –
“I am Joseph, your brother whom you sold into Egypt. But don’t feel badly, don’t blame yourselves for selling me. God was behind it. God sent me here ahead of you to save lives.”[2]
Joseph, who had been helpless to the violent actions of his brothers now found the roles reversed. He could have ordered to have his brothers killed or sold as slaves, themselves. Indeed, this is what his brothers feared would happen, but Joseph invited them to come and live in the land of Egypt where they and their families would be safe, fed, and cared-for. Joseph forgave his brothers for the years of pain and anguish they had caused him, and he meant it. . . It should be noted that the Bible never says that Joseph forgot what his brothers had done to him. It just says that he forgave them. He ran to embrace his brothers and kissed them all (Genesis 45:15) What they had meant for evil, God used for good.[3] If this were a movie, the orchestra music would swell, the screen would fade to black, and the credits would start rolling on the Book of Genesis. When it comes to forgiveness, this is a beautiful story. This is a perfect, Biblical, example of how to do it.
Now, I know that it is not likely that many of you have been sold into slavery in Egypt and then years later have been put in a position where you can forgive the people who did that to you, but all of us have opportunities in our own lives to both offer forgiveness and receive forgiveness.
Forgiveness is a powerful thing – a holy thing. It can be incredibly healing and incredibly hard. Jesus doesn’t make it any easier for us, either. In today’s reading from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus instructs his disciples:
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those you curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. . . Do to others as you would have them do to you. . . Do not judge and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give and it will be given to you. (Luke 6:27-29, 31, 37-38)
These are challenging words, aren’t they? For many of us, Jesus might as well be saying, “If you flap your arms hard enough, you’ll be able to fly” or just, “Here, folks: do the impossible. . .” “Love your enemies?” “Do not judge?” “Forgive, and you will be forgiven?” “Jesus, you’re asking too much of us.” One commentator writes that Jesus is not offering us
“a recipe for self-help. . . [but instead] it is a recipe for disaster, because the very idea of forgiveness is radical and powerful. It runs against our thinking, our inclinations, our desires, and our will.”[4]
So, what is Jesus saying, here? For starters, he is not asking us to be push-overs, or to accept and allow mistreatment by others. What he is asking of us is to allow God to reframe the conflicts in our lives in holy terms. Thomas Currie, a retired pastor and professor puts it this way:
The real threat that our enemies represent to us today is that our hatred of them will define who we are and thus give them power to define the meaning of our lives. That is something the gospel is unwilling to let happen. The meaning of our lives belongs no more to our enemies than it does to ourselves. The best thing we can do to love our enemies is to confess our faith in [Jesus,] who refuses to take their enmity as seriously as it wants to be taken, and instead absorbs its poison in the ocean of [God’s] forgiveness. It is not as if [God] denies their enmity or smothers it with a dismissive sentiment of “love,” but rather that [Jesus] refuses to let their enmity do the one thing it wants to do, which is to claim him for itself. To love one’s enemies is, in this sense, to be set free from engaging them on their own terms. And by raising this possibility, this freedom will enable our enemies to confront, if not discover, a deeper humanity.[5]
In other words, the act of forgiveness is an act of power, in which someone relies on God’s power to overcome, and ultimately overwhelm, the power of an evil that has been done to them. I know that there are some dark and horrible things that can happen to us and to others – things that we might believe are unforgivable. There are those hard things that have happened to us which we will never forget, but the real power of forgiveness is not allowing those hard things to have power over us and define us forever.
This past week, I attended a hearing on the possible repeal of the death penalty in the State of New Hampshire. Speaker after speaker talked about seemingly unforgivable things happening to the victims of horrendous crimes. But they also said that holding on to a mindset of vengeance was more psychologically and spiritually damaging in the long-run. Do we want to be defined by a mindset of vengeance – filling our days and nights with grief and anger – or do we want the power to be healed?
When it came to forgiving his brothers, Joseph held literal power. He was second only to the king. But the power that God showed through Joseph was that there is a place – even in the most broken of relationships – for God’s grace to shine through the cracks. This grace might not fully restore a broken relationship, but it does have the power to bring healing to our own hearts, and minds, and souls – and, in God’s own way and time, healing to those who have done us wrong.
There is a verse to a hymn that I love which speaks to this – a verse that we will often skip and not sing, by request, whenever we sing the hymn because what it asks of us is so hard:
For just and unjust, a place at the table,
abuser, abused, with need to forgive,
in anger, in hurt, a mindset of mercy,
for just and unjust, a new way to live.[6]
Jesus Christ has shown us this new way to live and how hard it is to live it. This forgiveness stuff isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes courage, it takes faith, and it takes practice.
There is a friend of our church named Nancy, who comes to the monthly worship services that we offer at the Birch Hill retirement community.
This past week, Nancy told a story about how she never really got along with her daughter-in-law. For years, Nancy’s daughter-in-law kept Nancy’s son and grandchildren away from Nancy. This was tremendously painful for Nancy. But when her daughter-in-law was diagnosed with brain cancer and slipped into a coma, it was Nancy who moved in to care for her during her final days. Her daughter-in-law might not have even known that it was Nancy who was sitting by her bedside, but Nancy knew. She knew that her very presence at her daughter’s bedside was an act of forgiveness. God had given her the power to practice forgiveness and she claimed that power for her own – to not let the brokenness of a relationship define how that relationship came to an end.
Even though we live in interesting and difficult times, there is still a place for forgiveness – in our own minds and hearts, in the life of our families, in the life of our nation, and world. The reason why I say this is that I believe in the One who came to offer forgiveness to all the world. Even as Jesus was dying on the cross, an innocent victim of human cruelty, he prayed, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
Oh, how hard and oh, how holy. . . May we live, and may we forgive with that kind of grace. . .
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Coach Brian Flores Is Unsung Hero of Patriots Super Bowl Win
A day after spearheading a New England Patriots protection that held a Los Angeles Rams offense to a single discipline aim in Super Bowl LIII, former defensive coordinator Brian Flores was formally named head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Flores’ protection was integral within the Patriots’ win. If you keep in mind that the Rams, who scored solely three factors Sunday evening, averaged 32.9 PPG within the common season and 28.zero PPG within the postseason; that they have been second within the NFL in scoring, his success is much more sensational and praiseworthy. “They scored three factors,” proprietor Johnathan A. Kraft stated. “They have been [second] in scoring within the league they usually scored three factors.” Nonetheless, aside from Flores’ extremely anticipated promotion, not a lot recognition has been given to him within the media. This isn’t stunning neither is it some main injustice; followers simply tend to care extra in regards to the gamers who execute the performs than the coaches who create them. However in a league the place there are actually solely 4 minority head coaches, Flores’ story issues simply as a lot as any participant who’s benefited from his robust sport plan. Flores, a son of Honduran immigrants who in keeping with ESPN’s Ian O’Connor “lived along with his 4 brothers 20 tales above a group that could possibly be perilous to navigate,” was a defensive finish and working again prodigy as an eighth-grader. He was additionally a grade-A pupil, and so when it got here to choosing schools, he selected Boston Faculty “over a large circle of main faculty packages providing him a full journey as a result of of its tutorial standing and proximity to residence,” O’Connor writes. In 2003, Flores was the Eagles’ second-leading tackler, and would have scored an NFL contract if he hadn’t torn his quadriceps muscle his senior yr. Regardless of this setback, Flores nonetheless discovered his means onto an NFL staff—simply not as a participant. In accordance with the Undefeated’s Jason Reid, “The previous Boston Faculty linebacker initially labored in New England’s scouting division, becoming a member of the group after graduating in 2004.” He then spent 11 years “grinding as a Patriots assistant, studying from arguably the best coach within the historical past of skilled sports activities: Invoice Belichick.” After Matt Patricia, the Patriot’s former defensive play caller, left to develop into the Detroit Lions’ head coach, Flores took on his position, succeeding with flying colours. Now, this Brownsville native has an alternative to ascertain his personal legacy with a model new staff. Alongside with Mike Tomlin of the Steelers, Anthony Lynn of the Los Angeles Chargers and Ron Rivera of the Carolina Panthers, Flores is one of the final remaining minority head coaches in a league that appears to boast solely of its range initiatives. This season, of the eight head coaches who have been fired, 5 have been African-American—Todd Bowles, Hue Jackson, Vance Joseph, Marvin Lewis and Steve Wilks. Regardless of this, some folks, equivalent to Cyrus Mehri, founder of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, which, in keeping with the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin, “advocates for range and equality in NFL teaching and helped set up the league’s Rooney Rule in 2003,” doesn’t consider there’s an issue with the NFL’s hiring practices. “We see what occurred this time as primarily the common rough-and-tumble half of the NFL enterprise—win or go residence,” Mehri stated in a cellphone interview with Volin. “However we stay very optimistic about the place issues are going ahead. “You have homeowners interviewing minority candidates for head coach and GM for each opening,” Mehri stated. “So all we’ve ever requested for was a good likelihood to compete, and let the very best candidate be employed.” The Rooney Rule is an NFL coverage that requires groups with head teaching vacancies to interview a minimum of a number of various candidates. Nonetheless, interviews don’t at all times result in jobs. The Nation’s Dave Zirin stated it greatest when he tweeted: “In a league 70% African American, there are actually two (!) Black head coaches after right this moment’s (firings). Shameful numbers. Failure of a Rooney Rule with out tooth and homeowners who will practically at all times bend in the direction of whiteness.” In accordance to Volin, “The dearth of minority offensive coordinators and quarterbacks coaches is obvious, and stays a big impediment for minorities to get head teaching jobs.” At the beginning of the season, for instance, the Kansas Metropolis Chiefs’ Eric Bieniemy was the one offensive coordinator of coloration within the league. In the end, if the NFL actually desires to unravel this downside, it wants to rent extra quarterback and offensive coordinator coaches of coloration, since these positions usually result in head teaching alternatives. In truth, in an interview with NPR, Reid defined that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has “acknowledged that, with regard to NFL head coaches, the league must have extra coaches of coloration within the pipeline on offense as a result of homeowners now overwhelmingly, in phrases of the hiring course of, are choosing from that pool of candidates.” However, as Reid says, “Sure, the league acknowledges that extra must be executed, however it’s, how does that occur?” Minority head coaches equivalent to Flores are vital signifiers of change inside a system that appears stagnant with progress. His new position because the Dolphins’ head coach, although an unbelievable and well-deserved feat, reminds us solely of the gap we nonetheless have to go earlier than Flores, and others who appear like him, are the norm reasonably than the exception. As sports activities journalist and activist Lester Rodney used to say, “Buddy, there may be nonetheless unfinished work on the market,” so till the NFL takes actual, efficient motion, till there is no such thing as a want for the Rooney Rule, Flores’ story will at all times matter—particularly to these Black and brown girls and boys on the market who dream of teaching their very own soccer staff sooner or later. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/EbonycomRssFeed/~3/4-Y6WJcPsb0/ The post Coach Brian Flores Is Unsung Hero of Patriots Super Bowl Win appeared first on My style by Kartia. https://www.kartiavelino.com/2019/02/coach-brian-flores-is-unsung-hero-of-patriots-super-bowl-win.html

Why the ‘end of the startup era’ could be great for entrepreneurs
Joseph Flaherty Contributor

Invisible unicorns: 35 big companies that started with little or no money
There’s no shame in a $100M startup
Three prominent tech thinkers recently declared the end of the startup era, questioned the future of tech innovation generally and heralded the rise of the “Frightful Five” — Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft — who will dominate the future of tech. All of the posts make credible arguments, but ignore how consolidation could be good, even great, for startups.
If we define startup success as building cornerstone companies that will go down in history and be worth hundreds of billions of dollars, we may, in fact, be entering a lean period. If we define success as building an ever wider assortment of products, shipping them to tens of millions of users and earning hundreds of millions, or even billions of dollars in short time frames, the good times may just be getting started.
Just look at the case of tbh — Ben Thompson suggests that Facebook likely paid ~$80 million for the seed-funded, one-year-old company. Each founder probably made close to $15 million for a year of work, making them better paid than All-Star NBA Champion Stephen Curry. Entrepreneurs may have to settle for acquiring mere generational wealth, rather than becoming “pledge to cure all diseases” wealthy, but the death of startups has been greatly exaggerated.
How consolidation could be great for startups
The kind of industry consolidation we see with the “Frightful Five” isn’t new to tech, it’s the norm in most industries and can actually spur innovation. The pharmaceutical and packaged food industries are heavily consolidated, have thriving startup scenes, are hyperactive in M&A and provide a glimpse of how the future of tech may unfold.
Pharma
The pharma industry was one of the earliest tech businesses and is one where first-mover advantage is real. As many leading pharma companies were founded before 1780 as after 1980, and eight of the 10 biggest companies are more than 100 years old. This sounds like the makings of a moribund market, but, in fact, between 2014-2015 there were more than 100 biotech IPOs that generated $10 billion in proceeds. A hundred years after the “winners” were established in pharma, startups are still producing money-making miracle drugs and minting multi-millionaire startup founders with startling regularity.

How did this happen? The established companies have scaled their organizations to handle the drudge work of getting a drug through clinical trials, past FDA review (and its global counterparts) and, once cleared, into the hands of doctors and patients. This organizational structure and scale make them ill-suited to pursue novel R&D, which is where the startups shine. Startups can now orient themselves entirely toward finding breakthrough cures and not worry about commercialization. If a startup develops a novel cancer drug, or even a molecule that looks promising, Sanofi, Novartis or one of their peers will buy it.
Food
Critics of the pharma comparison will point out that intellectual property is critical in the biotech/life sciences industries and software-based tech startups don’t have the same negotiating leverage. This is a fair point. However, the pattern of large companies focused on marketing and distribution acquiring nimble innovators also plays out in the packaged food business, which, like software, has little in the way of IP, relies on commodities as inputs and thrives by surfing changing consumer tastes. Look at the top 10 packaged food companies by revenue and the years in which they were founded:

Despite this consolidation, last year there were 614 food and drink company acquisitions.
The diversity of the startups is impressive, their simplicity of their offerings even more so. Krave Jerky served paleo enthusiasts, and Dave’s Bread was a godsend to gluten lovers, but both were rewarded with quarter-billion-dollar exits for improving on product categories that are approximately 10,000 years old.
Startups aren’t limited to acquisitions either. Chobani went from a niche product to owning 20 percent of the yogurt market in a little over 10 years. In 2015, two dog food startups debuted on the public markets with a combined $6 billion in market cap.
It’s true that the founders of RX Bar will probably not go down in history the way W.K. Kellogg did, but they still managed to turn a $10,000 investment into a $600 million fortune in four years. That seems like the sign of a healthy entrepreneurial ecosystem, not a weak one.
Not only could this pattern work in tech, in some sectors it’s already the norm. Google has acquired at least 211 startups since 2001. IAC has owned the online dating space from Match.com and has bought up many of the 45 sub-brands that make up its portfolio.
Tech is maturing
Some believe that the tech industry will be perpetually churning and creating new market leaders. As Friendster gave way to Myspace, and Myspace lost out to Facebook, so shalt Facebook be upstaged by the next great social network. Microsoft once looked unassailable and was ultimately brought low by changing technology and the Justice Department, and so will Google, they say.
That’s always a possibility, but the reality is these companies have benefited from capturing billions of users in the crossover from desktop to mobile computing and established business models that are native to the web. The founders of Facebook, Amazon and Google will likely be running their companies for decades to come.
How to navigate the post-startup landscape
Fortune favors efficient entrepreneurs… In a world where new tech startups don’t have a clear path to Facebook-sized valuations, one way to thrive is to avoid raising so much VC funding where becoming the “next Google” is the only way to win. There’s no shame in a $100 million startup. Fred Wilson and USV have created a legendary firm on $1-3 billion dollar exits (with a couple of notable outliers).
If a startup isn’t building for the long haul, they should orient themselves to a world where more humble valuations are the norm. There are dozens of startups that got huge with almost no capital. It’s possible to make more money as an entrepreneur by raising very little capital and selling for a low price than raising huge sums and selling for a high price. Entrepreneurs shouldn’t aim small or plan their company around an acquisition, but they shouldn’t close the door on the option by overfunding.
…and audacious projects Today, many equate startups and entrepreneurship with the lean, public development process that enabled Mark Zuckerberg to create in a dorm room the most powerful media company the world has ever known. This is not the historical norm. We may be due for a period where major capital expenditures are required to create the platforms of the future.
That process can look messy. Magic Leap has been able to easily conjure piles of cash, but thus far has been unwilling to perform even the simplest parlor trick for the press, leading many to speculate that its eventual release will result in a Juicero-like splat instead of a Jobsian reveal.
But is it that crazy for a startup to invest $1.9 billion to develop something, that if successful, will be a new kind of display technology with the potential to rival OLED? If this investment pays off, and the patents are strong, Magic Leap will be in a position to compete with Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft in the race for AR. Even if it ends up being “just” an awesome game platform, the amount invested isn’t crazy. Sony spent more than $3 billion in R&D developing their third-generation PlayStation console and Microsoft spent $100 million improving their Xbox game controller. If Magic Leap finally ships a functional product, founder Rony Abovitz will deserve plaudits for his capital efficiency.
Look to places other than San Francisco… Consumer drones are an $8 billion tech industry that is thoroughly dominated by DJI, a Chinese startup. Perhaps WeChat will decide to take on Facebook in the U.S.? Or Alibaba could one day decide to challenge Amazon in the U.S.? The notion of a Japanese loom maker beating Ford and GM to become the leader in U.S. auto sales seemed crazy at one point as well, but Toyota did it all the same. And who knows what’s being developed in the dorms at Tsinghua University.
…including vape shops In a world where Warby Parker, Casper and Juicero are considered tech companies, it’s worth taking a moment to recognize that the e-cigarette category has become an $8 billion market, and is projected to be worth $20 billion in the next five years. This is within striking distance of Ethereum’s market cap, but unlike cryptocurrencies, which have been obsessed over by the tech cognoscenti, e-cigarettes emerged from gas stations and bodegas seemingly overnight. Vape shops won’t spur the next great startup, but their rapid growth shows that tech has not drawn its last (root beer-scented) breath, and that huge opportunities for startups can come from anywhere.
The market is never truly settled
Nvidia was founded in 1993 with the goal of making better graphics cards for gamers. By its twentieth anniversary, it had attained a comfortable corporate middle age with a valuation in the single-digit billions. Then AI folks began to rely on Nvidia’s hardware, and the company enjoyed a 10X improvement in their stock price in the space of two years. What was once a company that served a niche segment of the tech industry is now a major player — Nvidia’s market cap is twice as large as Tesla’s! It may be the end of the startup world as we’ve known it, but students of business history should feel fine.

Paul David Wilson
Paul David Wilson (born August 30, 1952) is a songwriter, composer, conductor, and music producer. Most of his professional life has been devoted to music, including composing for radio and TV commercials. He became the president of a start-up record label begun by Frank Thomas, who was then the starring player on the Chicago White Sox baseball team. Wilson suffered a massive and debilitating stroke when he was 46 years old. Due to the terribly limiting effects of aphasia, a common but complicated and severe post-stroke condition, he was for a number of years unable to communicate without great difficulty. His fight back to full functioning has been a decade-long challenge that, although largely successful, in many ways still continues.
Biography
Early life
Paul David Wilson was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was third son to father, Herbert, a classical tenor vocalist and choir director who taught elementary school and retired after becoming a vice-principal of the school. Paul’s mother, Odessa, was a child prodigy who grew to become a concert pianist and choir director. She was accomplished in a variety of music genres, but due to her commitment to God, only performed certain styles of music. Paul’s early lessons on piano came from his mother, and he grew up absorbing the classical and gospel music of the choirs and vocal ensembles his parents directed.
While still of pre-school age, Paul began composing simple songs and by the time he began primary school had learned to musically notate the songs he composed. At age 12, Paul began organizing "street corner" vocal ensembles to perform his songs at parties and selected school functions. At 13, he discovered the flute and it soon became his major instrument. Paul attended James H. Bowen High School in Chicago. In Paul’s fourth year of high school, a friend, Arlene Johnson, persuaded him to run for class president. He was elected Senior Class President of Bowen in 1970.
He remembers the day when he was a still-young teenager and "my mother dragged me to a seminar on how to create commercial jingles." The presenters were Dick Marx, whose young son would later become a pop music star known as Richard Marx, who was then Chicago’s most prominent master of music for Radio and TV commercials, and Dr. Thomas Fabish, the concert master of DePaul University’s music department. The presentation involved a big band, top-notch singers and a film. Even as he listened, Paul was thinking, "I could do that."
Inspired by Primous Fountain III, a young composer at DePaul University, Paul enrolled and majored in music composition and theory. He studied music composition with Dr. Leon Stein, Dr. Phil Winsor and Darlene Cowles, while taking flute with Philip Seeburg and Joseph Kainz. In 1973, he was one of 20 music students from around the U.S. selected by Ron Logan of Walt Disney Entertainment to participate in a professional "work experience." Paul remembers it as one of the major highlights of his college career. He wrote at that time in August 1973:
During his study at DePaul, he founded, performed in, and composed for many ensembles and often organized concerts and productions that featured works by him and others. In his senior year, Paul was honored by inclusion in "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges" and graduated in 1975 with a B.A. in music composition and theory.
Career
In May 1974, while a senior at DePaul, he landed part-time employment at "Star Point 7," a music production company founded by Chuck Colbert, a producer/musician with a jazz-rock band, American Breed ("Bend Me, Shape Me"). Paul started this "job" as an unpaid go-fer, answering phones and doing basic clerical chores. After two months, Paul was eager for a chance to show what he could contribute and saw the situation as an opportunity. "Chuck and his writing partner had parted ways and he needed someone to help finish a project. I was around and available and had the skills. I had to ask him, what are you waiting for?" Once Paul had called attention to his talents, Colbert began using him as a composer and arranger.
A short time later, in the Summer of 1974, Paul met a young musician who was just completing his military service, Danny Leake. At the time, Danny was a talented songwriter and electric guitar player, but would later become one of America’s foremost recording studio engineers and one of Paul’s closest and most frequent collaborators.
In the Fall of 1975, Danny played a significant role in Paul’s life by introducing him to Ian Levine, a producer and songwriter, who was a celebrated member of the European black music fan base known as the Northern Soul scene. In 1975, while working with Ian, Paul composed, arranged and produced for Dance, R&B and Northern Soul recording artists, in the course of which he traveled in the U.S. and England. One of the Levine’s artists, Evelyn Thomas, scored a chart hit with her first single, reaching the UK Top 30 in 1976 with the single "Weak Spot," and "which was (co-written and) arrangement by Paul." As the writer, Neil Rushton, wrote in a review which appeared in Black Echoes, "Paul put the incredible zinging, scurrying strings in "Your Magic Put A Spell In Me" performed by [L.J Johnson Ian Levine] for Ian Levine productions and also served as the songwriter and arranger for the "1976 Disco classic, originally sung by James Wells, called "Baby I'm Still The Same Man."
Despite the success and trans-Atlantic travel he was experiencing, Paul still lived at home with his mother and father. One day in early 1976, while diligently making "cold calls" from his parents’ basement in hopes of drumming up some fresh music opportunities, Paul found himself talking to Jerry Butler, a fellow Chicagoan who was already well known in American soul music. Butler had (with Curtis Mayfield) been one of the original founding members of The Impressions and then established a long later career as a celebrated solo artist. That lucky phone call not only gave Paul a chance to meet Butler, but soon led to the opportunity to work with him on a few projects, including three albums "Suite For The Single Girl", "It All Comes Out In My Song" (title song) and Thelma (Houston) & Jerry for the Motown label. Subsequently, Paul and Butler they produce an album on Dee Dee Sharp-Gample with Philadelphia International. Billboard said, "writer/co-producer Paul Wilson’s "Invitation" is a regal, touching trumph that alone would have made for worthwhile album." In 1981 with "Breaking and Entering" / "Easy Money," from Sharp-Gamble's album "Dee Dee", Paul’s production spent four weeks at number one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and Dance Chart Billboard.
Burrell Communications Group, LLC
After two years of working with Chuck Colbert and learning the myriad business-related details one must to be successful in commercial music production, in 1976, at age 24, Paul founded Herschel Commercial, Inc ("I just named it Hershel Commercial, Inc. because it rhymed, he notes) with Maurice Earl, Arlene Johnson and, later, Bruce Montgomery. His first client was Chicago-based Burrell Communications Group, LLC, founded by Tom Burrell. Although Anna Morris, the creative director of Burrell, thought Paul might benefit from a little more "seasoning" before going out on his own, he proclaimed with great certainty, "Look, I’m ready!" Now, as impressed with his confidence as with his talents, Morris awarded him a package of several arranging spots to produce for Coca-Cola. The tracks featured Kitty Heywood, a sweet-voiced soul singer who had already performed on a number of albums as well as commercials. Once produced, the spots were enthusiastically received, both at the ad agency and at the client. Paul was soon creating and producing a long list of memorable and award-winning spots for Burrell and many other ad agencies, often working with such established artists as: Phyllis Hyman, Lena Horne, Anita Baker, Midnight Star, Walter Jackson, The Dells, Peabo Bryson, Ada Dyer Vickie Winans, Tramaine Hawkins, The Bar-Kays, Valerie Simpson, Joshie Jo Armstead, Millie Jackson and Rufus Thomas.
Also of note is the score Paul composed for a television film "Happy Birthday, Martin" sung by Joshie Jo Armstead, which is on permanent display at the King Center in Atlanta.
Leo Burnett Worldwide
In 1977, a chance meeting at a barbershop brought Paul to the attention of Don Richards, a young vice-president and account executive at Leo Burnett Worldwide, Chicago’s largest and most celebrated advertising agency. Richards had been hired to facilitate Burnett’s efforts to identify promising new African American staffers and suppliers, so he was ready to talk business even on a weekend trip to his barber. On hearing the young composer’s story, Richards handed him a card, saying, "Call me… next week." Paul made sure he called Richards. That meeting was most fortunate for Paul and for Herschel. It set them on the path to success and helped establish their reputation with even the biggest and best clients, which included such major brand names as Kraft, Quaker Oats, Campbell Soup Company, United Airlines, Kellogg Company, Coca-Cola, Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Anheuser Busch, Busch Entertainment, Disney-ABC Domestic Television, Mars Incorporated, Alberto-Culver and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions (Oprah Winfrey). In 1980, People magazine, they featured an article on Paul. The title was "Lookout. A Guide To The Up And Coming."
Paul says, "To be successful, you have to be a chameleon. You're paid to do a job, not to be a conscience." Paul wrote and composed many memorable TV and Radio music spots during the commercial phase of his career. Some of the many highlights include; "I Wanna Pop, I Wanna Shasta" for Shasta Beverages, "Sweet Talker, Betty Crocker" for Betty Crocker, "Mmm, Ahh, Ohh, Pop ‘N Fresh Dough" for Pillsbury. "Until 1981, I was known for lavish, heartwarming arrangements," says Wilson, who is a classically trained flutist with degrees in composition and orchestration. "Then I had a hit with "I Wanna Pop! I Wanna Shasta!" and suddenly I was the rock ‘n’ roll guy, the king of the synthesizers." Paul won a prestigious CLIO award for his arranging work on the McDonalds commercial "Makin’ Music."
Calling Me Home, Chicago
In 1985, Paul scored a true "crossover hit" when a song he’d created for Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau and composed both lyrics and music featuring Lee Montgomery "Calling Me Home, Chicago," a song written for a $10 million state tourism campaign, became so instantly popular that it was released as a single and sold through area record stores. Jan Zechman of Jan Zechman Associates said, "For Chicago Tourism, our advertising agency asked six local composers to create a musical centerpiece for our campaign. We expected the competition to be fierce. It was not. One airing of Paul's musical vision was enough to win him the job, and to help us create one of the most memorable and successful tourism campaigns in Chicago history. I believe in the power of words, but the power of Paul's music, his notes, proved mightier than any pen on this day." That song is widely regarded even today as one of the true "classic" songs of Chicago.
Ruth L. Ratny, the owner of the magazine "Screen" and editor, she wrote, "Among the most memorable for the Illinois Department of Tourism, are the unforgettable "Calling Me Home, Chicago." State tourism director Lynda Simon says isn’t surprised that Wilson was able to write words and that went a long way towards popularizing the agency’s first major television campaign. "He’s a very talented and creative person," says Simon, "and he’s a joy to work with."
Recording and live performance
In 1987, because of his desire to re-enter the record business, Paul (with attorney Linda Mensch) discovered and produced a new artist, "Nikki." Eventually signed to Geffen Records, the debut album entitled "Nikki" was released in the summer of 1989. One song, "Notice Me" was a hit, reaching #21 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and #11 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, bringing Paul honors from BMI as writer and publisher of one of the most performed songs of the year.
In early 1989, Paul was called on by noted choral conductor Nathan Carter to orchestrate Robert Ray’s "Gospel Mass" for a joint performance of the Morgan State University Choir and the Detroit Symphony. Also in 1989, Paul was appointed conductor/artistic director for a concert series entitled "Classic Black" (Executive Produced by Valarie Norman). The first concert was given at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall in April 1990.
Paul wrote:
Un-D-Nyable Entertainment, Inc.
In 1997, Wilson accepted an offer from Frank Thomas, "The Big Hurt" the star player and home run hitter of the Chicago White Sox, to serve as President of Un-D-Nyable Entertainment, an independent record label. Paul agreed to run the label in partnership with Thomas.
Their initial release was a CD single entitled "3-5, The White Sox Got’em Open Up Wide," with Frank Thomas featuring D. Stoy. Paul discovered and signed Dejah Gomez, a precociously talented 14-year-old singer and songwriter, and hired Cleo Powell, who had an established reputation locally for recognizing and nurturing talent, as the label’s A&R Director.
In 1998, Wilson hired Jun Mhoon, accomplished both as a musician and an executive at A&M Records, as Executive V.P. General Manager and Maurice White, formerly with Columbia Records, as Promotion Director and Jon Smith, Studio Manager. He also signed Entourage (James "Slique" Adams, Floyd Massey, Eric Wade and Irone Guyton, a R&B singing group), rapper Ant-Dub and STRONG, an R&B group that was a family of five brothers. He then secured the services of songwriters/producers, Jack & Earl and George Claiborne. He soon formed an alliance with the music distributors, Navarro.
In late 1998, Wilson produced the debut CD for Dejah Gomez ("Dejah") and Entourage ("The Fall Backs of a Playa") and matching videos for the CD songs and a CD single title "I Can’t Hide" featuring STRONG. In December, a single "When," by Entourage, they charted on Billboard. Soon, both Dejah Gomez and Entourage were starting to "take off," but, in January 1999, just as the action and excitement was building for his young record company, Paul Wilson suffered a stroke.
Health
On January 2, 1999, the stroke left the active and energetic 46-year old composer, producer and businessman suddenly and seriously disabled (CT). The doctors revealed that an ischemic CVA of left MCA with hemorrhagic transformation. Paul was told he’d have to accept lasting and severe restrictions on his ability to verbally communicate, due to the post-stroke condition known as Aphasia.
Aphasia is the inability to speak, read, write or understand speech. Wilson was hospitalized at West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Oak Park and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Subsequently, he went through rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and Willowbrook, where he met Edie Babbitt, M.Ed. who now works with Leora Cherney, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Northwestern University Medical School, doing aphasia research.
Paul wrote:
In need of a restful setting for his recuperation, Paul and his wife, Terry, relocated to Maui in Hawaii where they lived for five years. Paul eventually found and studied with Dr. Walter Tokishi, a speech therapist, but the scarcity of expert medical support to help him overcome the limitations imposed by his aphasia was still a drawback of living on Maui. In 2005, he returned to Chicago, where he began an intensive rehabilitation regimen, fiercely determined to resume his musical career.

Paul has six brothers. They are: James Warren (classical/gospel organ, piano), Herbert Liston (Acoustic/electric bass), John Oland (vocalist), Mark Andrew, Steward Franklin (B-3, piano). One brother, Mark, died when he was an infant do to heart complication.
