Last night Wilson Valdez, who was playing second base for the Phillies, ended up pitching and getting the win in a 19 inning game vs the Reds. He was clocked throwing as hard as 90 mph and was pitching to the heart of the Reds lineup (Votto, Rolen, Bruce). That's very impressive and much better than Justin Berg did last night for the Cubs. He walked 3 batters (forced two runs home), each on 4 straight balls, and then got pulled. That's right, 12 pitches, 12 balls. Any time a position player gets to pitch a celebration is in order. Like buying Mint Milanos, some things in life are just a treat. To honor position players who have pitched here is a list of some notable players that have been struck out by a position player:

"Hard Hittin" Mark Whiten struck out the side (including Miguel Tejada) for the Indians back in 98'. He walked two and gave up one hit but who cares about that. He struck out the side. That's mighty impressive (as was his 4 HR game).

While that's impressive, it's not as impressive as Jose Oquendo striking out Deion Sanders looking. That's right, looking! This has to be one of my favorite sports moments ever. 

Wade Boggs struck out Delino DeShields in 99'. No word on how many beers Wade Boggs had drank before the game. 

Howard Johnson struck out on not one but two separate occasions by a position player. Even Deion Sanders thinks that's bad. 

Jeff Cirillo struck out Craig Counsell. What stands out about that? Craig Counsell's batting stance.

Donnie Hill struck out Rob "nothing swings like a" Deer. Just mentioning Rob Deer makes today a good day. 

Joe Simpson (not the creepy dad of Jessica) struck out Spike Owen. Yes, the Spike Owen. My guess is that Rock Raines was there to witness that one.
