Silent films often have irritating overstimulating and maximalist soundtracks to them. Depending when they were made and by whom, this added music in posthumous releases is not even music intended to be heard in conjuction with the film!

They often have no creative relation to the visuals you see or their creators, for when film reels were projected a hundred years ago, the theaters had dedicated piano players or orchestras whom performed very generic standardized music depending on what sort of dramatic flare scenes had (chase scene music, romance music etc...).

Hence, as a creative individual it's a small duty of yours to compose a soundtrack of your own to accompany your silent film viewings! I'm mentioning this, because I have a little media purist in me. A dubbed movie, a movie cropped against the intentions of the creator's vision and a movie so low quality that you lose colors and visual information are all sacrilege to me. You might as well be watching a false interpretation and creation by someone else, an appropriation, a perversion. To provide some perspective, it is like reading poetry translated from another language. You are reading the translator's handmark; an alteration of the original, words not chosen by the poet initially. So as a purist such as this, the practice of assigning your own soundtrack is not like reading translated poetry, it has my green light, I encourage it! ;)

I'd argue you get even more out inspirationally and creatively from the viewing experience, while not encroaching on original creative intentions and visions.

Here's my personal go to soundtrack for silent films, containing minimalistic, sombre, opaque, but delicate and soft pieces of music. Music that is inspirationally and creatively stimulating, but also calming and dreamy. Tonight I'm watching Our hospitality with Buster Keaton. ^(*u*)^

Crabtree deserves a happier life

I just started watching Murdoch Mysteries Season 9 Episode 12 and I can't help but feel sorry for George Crabtree. His teaching class is not going well at all and it sucks to see him struggle like this.

George is such a kind and lovable character, and I can't help but think that he deserves so much more happiness in his life. In my opinion, George Crabtree deserves a main character level of respect. He brings so much charm and wit to the show, and his struggles and triumphs should be just as important as the other characters.
