Jongseob knew he had a problem. The minute his heartbeat sped up at the sight of you walking past him in the hallway. Or the way he caught himself smiling helplessly whenever you offered a student your help. What was it about you that had him wrapped around your finger? He'd never know.

You, an enthusiastic and beloved student whose smile lights up a room, are unaware of his feelings. Heck, you never had time for yourself. Constantly jumping between being captain of the cheer team, member of the student council and...you get the point.

Flashforward to present time, Jongseob sat in the back row of his History class. It's always empty, less people for him to talk to, and besides, what kind of lunatic would sit next to the quiet kid all by himself? You. You're the lunatic. Imagine the utter disbelief on poor Jongseob's face, he could already feel the sweat coming.

Jongseob could not breathe. Literally. He watched your every movement. The way your eyes glimmered whenever the teacher called on you to answer, or the way you colour coordinate your notes, a thousand different highlighters somehow packed neatly onto your desk. Or maybe how he noticed the way your eyes slowly flickered to the side, stealing glances at him here and there. Wait. What?

Ofcourse, he quickly dismissed these thoughts. You of all people, taking a liking to him? Unbelieveable. I mean, who in their right mind would ever like Jong-

"-Seob, sorry for bothering. May i borrow a pen? Mine just ran out of ink and I really need to finish this note.."

Oh My Gosh. Did you just ask him for a pen? He picked up the nearest pen he could find. (He may or may not have been waiting for this moment all his life so he memorized the brand of pens you use and the colour ink you use the most.) Sweaty hands slowly passed the pen to you, his face red like cherries and his eyes looking at literally anything but you.

"Thankyou! I'm so happy I sat next to you for this period, I always buy this brand!"

"Oh, really? What a coincidence..haha.."

There's one thing Jongseob hates, and it's paired projects. Why have two people do it when he could simply do it on his own? Also because he has no friends to ask if they'd pair with him, but he'd never say it out loud(even though it's pretty obvious). So, imagine the look on Jongseob's face when his History teacher announced a paired project, the worst part? It's worth basically his entire grade, so it doesn't look like he can't not do it.

He glanced to the side, much to his suprise, almost the entire class stood next to you, begging you to pair with them. (He wasn't that suprised to be honest. You were immensely popular.)

Now, he was a very observant person, so he could bet his entire life that he was the first and most likely the only one to notice the slight discomfort on your face. You were good at hiding it, he can't lie. Pretty smile and crescent eyes waving away the people and softly apologizing for denying them.

You didn't want to partner with any of them, really. You were just too nice to directly say no.

"S-She's uh..She's paired with me..Sorry guys.."

Where'd this newfound confidence come from? We'd never know. You turned to him, a bit shocked he'd said this.

Being one of the most participative students in your year, you get to know people. And you knew all too well that Jongseob was the last person in the class, in the entire school even to say something. Ofcourse, you'd 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 give up an opportunity to pair with Jongseob, so you went along with it. (Y/n?? Is that a crush I smell?)

"Yeah..Yeah! What he said. I'm paired with Jongseob. Sorry guys. Maybe next time?"

The rest of the class went by in a blur for Jongseob. The realization that he would be working with you on a project had his heart racing. When the bell rang, signaling the end of class, you turned to him with a warm smile. (He tried pretending you weren't there but he couldn't resist your pearly whites and glossy lips)

"Jongseob, do you have time after school to start on the project?" you asked, your eyes gleaming.

"Uh, yeah, sure," he stammered, still in disbelief that you were talking to him.

"Great! Meet me in the library at 3, 'kay?"

Jongseob nodded, unable to form any coherent words. As you gathered your things and left the classroom, he felt a strange mixture of excitement and nervousness. This was his chance to get to know you better, but he was terrified of messing it up.

After school, Jongseob found himself sitting at a table in the library, waiting for you. He fidgeted with his notebook, trying to calm his nerves. (He had a half a mind to get up and leave, but he couldn't stand the idea of you waiting for him all alone in the library) When you finally arrived, you were slightly out of breath from rushing over, but your smile was as radiant as ever.

"Sorry I'm late! I had to finish up a meeting for the student council," you explained, taking a seat across from him.

"No worries," Jongseob replied, feeling a bit more at ease now that you were here. In his mind, you looked even prettier like this. Hair a bit messy and your skirt ridden up a little from practically running to the library.

You both opened your textbooks and started discussing the project. To Jongseob's surprise, you were not only kind but also incredibly smart.Don't get him wrong, he knew you were smart, but you basically sponsored all the information. As the conversation flowed, he found himself enjoying your company more and more. You were patient, attentive, and genuinely interested in his thoughts and ideas. For the first time in a while, he felt..seen.

Jongseob was on cloud nine(to be on cloud nine is basically an idiom that means to be extremely happy). It was as if he had been friends with you for the entire year. As you both packed your stuff and made plans to meet back up tomorrow-

''Hey, Y/n..C-Could I have your number? Y-You know! To text you..a-about the project, ofcourse.."

"Hm..Could you have my number?" You said, a teasing smile on your face. As you slung your bag over your shoulder, you walked up to Jongseob, slipping a piece of paper into his hands. "You better text me, cutie~" (yall the paper had her number, she whispered the 'you better text me, cutie' part), before you walked out the library, leaving a flushed, confused and taken aback Jongseob.

Over the next few weeks, you and Jongseob spent a lot of time together, working on the project and slowly becoming friends. You found yourself looking forward to your study sessions, appreciating Jongseob's quiet intelligence and his subtle sense of humor.

One afternoon, as you both sat in the library, you looked up from your notes and watched Jongseob for a moment. He was focused, his brow furrowed in concentration, and you couldn't help but smile. There was something comforting about his presence.

"Jongseob," you said softly, breaking the silence.

He looked up, surprised by the gentle tone of your voice. "Yeah?"

"I'm really glad we got paired for this project. I feel like I've gotten to know you a lot better," you admitted.

His eyes widened slightly, and a faint blush spread across his cheeks. "Me too."

As the project deadline approached, Jongseob couldn't ignore the growing feelings he had for you. He cherished every moment you spent together, but the thought of confessing his feelings terrified him. What if it ruined the friendship you had built? He'd rather stay with whatever you two had than ruining it with his stupid feelings.

On the day of your final presentation, you and Jongseob stood in front of the class, confidently delivering your project. When it was over, your classmates applauded, and the teacher praised your work. You turned to Jongseob, beaming with pride.

"We did it!" you exclaimed, giving him a quick hug.

Jongseob's heart skipped a beat. The warmth of your embrace lingered long after you pulled away, the scent of your perfume infilrating his sense of smell. As the class filed out, you and Jongseob stayed behind to gather your things. The classroom was empty now, and an awkward silence settled between you. The project was the main reason you both got together, afterall.

"There's something I need to tell you," Jongseob said suddenly, his voice trembling slightly.

You looked at him, your eyes filled with curiosity. "What is it?"

"I..Gosh, I don't think I should say it.." Jongseob was scared. He had to confess to you, but he just couldn't.

"Seob? What's wrong?" You said, dropping your bag and walking up to him slowly. (All he could think about in that moment was how pretty you looked with concern for him written all over your face. Oh. And that damn nickname. It gave him butterflies.)

He took a deep breath, gathering his courage. "I've... I've liked you for a long time. I never thought I'd have the chance to tell you, but working on this project with you has been amazing. I understand if you don't feel the same way, but I needed to be honest."

You were taken aback by his confession. For a moment, you were speechless. Then, a smile spread across your face, and you reached out to take his hand.

"Jongseob, you're not that good at keeping secrets," you said softly. "But the truth is, I've grown to like you too. I've always noticed you, you know. Your quiet personality stands out alot more than you think..I like it. You're smart, gentle, funny and so damn cute too. I like you too, Seob."

Jongseob's eyes widened in disbelief. "Really?"

"Ofcourse, silly." you chuckled softly, squeezing his hand gently.

"Damnit Y/n." All of a sudden, his hands were around your waist, pulling you into his chest, his fingers guiding your face up to look at him, all before he pressed his lips on yours.

As you stood there, holding hands in the empty classroom, Jongseob felt a weight lift off his shoulders. For the first time, he allowed himself to believe that maybe, just maybe, this love was meant to be.

YG Treasure Box, Episode 9:  We are now at DEFCON Catastrophe.

Welcome back.  It has been suggested to me that I should not encourage my readers to spam Yang Hyun-Suk of YG Entertainment.  I have taken that suggestion under advisement but make no promises.  The man eliminated Asahi from the show.  This cannot stand.

Moving on.  We’ve got some team battles to look forward to.  Battles without Asahi in them, which is an affront to all that is good in the universe.  But fine.  Let’s do this.  (through gritted teeth) Welcome to Episode Nine.

We’re jumping right into the team battles, as a new stage is being built.  And we will have fans in the audience!  Real fans, not just YG employees!  FINALLY!

I love the fans and the energy they bring to these shows.  This is going to be awesome.  We have our ice castle stage, which looks bigger than before.  Our announcer welcomes everyone, and we’re starting with a performance by the Treasure 5 Team.  Of course, it’s the “Going Crazy” signal song.  Let’s goooooo!

It’s a high-energy start, but I’m ready to battle.  We learn that the 300 fans in the audience will be the Treasure Makers, voting for their favorites.  They will be voting with those little calculator-things.  (I miss the light stick voting devices from Boys Planet.)  We find out that nine trainees will be eliminated today, leaving eleven finalists.  I wonder if CEO Yang is still determined to get a final group of five.

We’re starting with Team 1, consisting of future Treasure members Hyun Suk, Jihoon, and Yoshi, along with Yeon Gue and Do Hwan.  We get a flashback, where we learn that YG has chosen the songs for the teams, and the teams have to pick from the list.

Right away, I’m excited about the BTS and EXO songs.  But Hyun Suk, who usually has impeccable taste, chooses the Wanna One song “Boomerang.”  I’m not a Wanna One fan, but I hope this team can make that song work.

The rest of the flashback shows the Boomerang Team struggling to put a performance together, which is all part of the Flashback Formula.  We get a scary moment when Jihoon lands on his knee and needs medical attention. 

He insists he’s fine.  I’m sure he is.  Now for the battle!

I watched this twice.  They performed this song better than Wanna One.  You’d never know Jihoon had hurt himself.  And again, I get to hear Yoshi rap.  This is my new favorite performance of the whole show.

The audience votes for their favorites.  Now it’s time for CEO Yang’s feedback.  He says it was more amazing than he expected.  Given how frenzied the audience is, he probably can’t give any criticism or the fans will drag him off the platform and beat the crap out of him with their signs.  K-pop fans will defend their biases by any means necessary. 

We’re getting the voting results already for this team. 

They get 647 votes.  That seems kind of low for an audience of 300 who are allowed to vote for five members each, but I never know how this works.  For now, Team Boomerang is in first place.

Next up, it’s the team doing EXO’s “Growl.”  The future Treasure members are Junghwan and Jaehyuk, and the others are Seok Hwa, Jong Seob, and Yun Seo.  Right away, we learn this is the underdog team.  None of them were picked by Byoung Gon or Hyun Suk for their teams.  They were left over and put together by default.

Thankfully, they get a kickass song.  I’ve seen “Growl” performed on almost every show I’ve recapped, and it’s always a huge crowd pleaser.  But strangely, none of the teams wanted this song, and this team isn’t happy about being stuck with it.  Are they kidding?  Or is this part of the Flashback Formula?  They can’t be serious about not wanting to do this song.

Okay, as they go through rehearsal, I see it’s because it’s a difficult song to do, especially with the falsetto. At first, I think it’s all part of the manufactured drama of a survival show.  But then Jaehyuk runs into the bathroom in tears after being scolded by both the vocal and dance coaches.  Maybe this song is too much for this young team.  It’s a beast idol song, and they’re just kids.

Or maybe I’m being tricked by the Flashback Formula again.  We watch Jaehyuk practice and improve.  He’s going to give a great performance, isn’t he?  They’re all going to be great, right?

Let’s find out.

They’re not quite beast idols yet, but they definitely pulled it off.  The audience screams are deafening.  CEO Yang looks abolutely delighted.  Not bad, kids.

The fans recover enough to cast their votes.  CEO Yang tells them this was the team with the least training �� holy crap, they’ve only been training for six to eight months, and they just pulled THAT off?  Give them ALL the votes.

Well, no.  They get 607 votes, putting them in second place.  What is up with these fans?

Time for Team 3, who has chosen the iKON song “Dumb and Dumber,” meaning that they will unfortunately be referred to as “Team Dumb and Dumber” for the rest of the episode.  Do not tell me the producers didn’t do that on purpose.  Along with Byoung Gon and Yoon Bin, the team includes future Treasure members Mashiho, Junkyu, and Doyoung.

We get a flashback.  We’re getting the opposite of the Flashback Formula.  The dance and vocal coaches praise them to the skies at the midpoint evals.  I’m suspicious.  What is this show trying to pull?

Flashback over.  We never get a flashback where everything goes perfectly.  What is going on here?

No time to dwell on it now.  Let’s watch Team Dumb and Dumber!

It really is a dumb song, but it’s a perfect performance.  Confetti rains down on the fans.  The group even dances out into the audience.  It’s wild and fun, and not a single thing goes wrong, WHICH STRESSES ME OUT.  I’ve never seen this before.  A perfect flashback followed by a perfect performance.  That never happens.  The other shoe must be about to drop.  One of the guys is giong to fall off the stage during the voting, right?  Someone will slip on the confetti?  Suddenly decide K-pop isn’t his thing and leave to join a monestary?  WHAT HORRIBLE THING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN?

CEO Yang wonders if Treasure 5 could possibly beat this group.  I know – they’re going to get a terrible score!  That must be it. 

We finally see the score.  And wow.

It’s 864.  They’re in first place.  I’m astonished.  Mark your calendars, K-pop fans.  This perfect journey will never happen again on a survival show.  I’m pretty sure this was an accident, and a show editor is getting fired for this.

So now all that’s left is Treasure 5.  Bang Yedam looks STRESSED.

To review:  this team has future Treasure members Yedam, Jeongwoo, and Haruto, as well as Seung Hun and Keita.  They’ll be doing my favorite of the four songs, “DNA” by BTS.  We get a flashback, and since the last flashback really messed me up, I have no idea what to expect.

We get some drama.  Yedam has to miss a lot of rehearsals because of tests at school.  When did he have time to study?  Do the other trainees not go to school?  Something must be up.  I think Yedam is really sneaking off to plan his solo career.

We cut to a confessional with Yedam.  He’s stressing out over trying to fit school in with the show.  This hasn’t come up before for him or any of the other trainees.  He says he’s worried. 

The group’s midpoint eval is with the group Winner.  Yedam arrives an hour early to catch up.  And, of course, he memorizes the dance in 30 minutes.  Wait, no.  That’s not how the flashback formula works.  He’s supposed to do badly at the evals and get yelled at, and we’re supposed to wonder if he can pull it together in time for the battle.  This show is so messed up, it can’t even do flashbacks right.

“Yedam is a genius,” says Doyoung.  Fine.  He’s a genius.  I give up.  Then, I swear to God, we get the members of Winner in a confessional, and they call Yedam a genius.  I think my brain is actually breaking.

Showtime.  Let’s see Yedam the Genius get a thousand votes by himself and have BTS rush onto the stage and beg him to join their group.

Honestly?  It wasn’t that great.  The other teams were full of energy of fire.  This team did the steps well, but it just looked like they were going through the motions.  I know the CEO will love it, and they’ll get ALL the votes, but I’m disappointed.  It just felt low energy.  The audience is screaming its collective lungs out, so I guess I’m going to be the lone dissenter here.

The votes come in.  CEO Yang gives Yedam the highest praise, because of course he does.  He also singles out Seung Hun for praise, which is all that poor trainee has ever wanted, so I’m happy for him. 

The announcer drags out the wait for the final vote and then cuts to commercial.  The crowd sounds like it’s about to riot.  When we come back, we finally find out the Treasure Team score.

It’s 812.  The Treasure Team doesn’t get first place – Team Dumb and Dumber does.  I feel a little vindicated. 

This means no one from Team Dumb and Dumber will be eliminated.  They all take their places on the Finalist platform.  That’s five spots taken, six spots left.

Only three from the second place team – Treasure 5 – can take the platform.  Two will be eliminated.  And just like on No Mercy’s finale, they’re not going to do eliminations with the audience there.  The announcer tells the fans to watch the show to see who the finalists are.  The fans find it hard to leave and start shouting for CEO Yang’s attention, demanding that all the trainees be allowed to debut.  Aha – entitled behavior!  Now they’re acting like Americans!

Finally, the audience leaves, and we can get on with this.

Back to Team Treasure 5, from which two will be eliminated.  So who’s surviving?  (Hint:  There are three future Treasure members in the group.)  They are Yedam, Haruto, and Jeongwoo.

This is really hard on Keita and Seung Hun, who have been trainees at YG for years, and now another opportunity is gone.  I know they’re both going to debut eventually and be okay, but I really feel for them right now.  Keita is keeping that bright smile on his face, but Seung Hun looks ready to give up.  The screen text tells us he’s been a trainee for nine years.  We see a camera guy standing next to him, zooming in on his tears, and I just want to give that guy a hard shove off the stage. 

In a confessional, Seung Hun asks, “What do I do with my life now?”  Kid, get over to C9 Entertainment.  You’ll find your CIX bandmates there.

Ugh, this industry.  Okay, let’s move on.

Time to inflict emotional trauma on Team Boomerang.  Only two will become finalists, and there are three future Treasure members in the group:  Hyun Suk (don’t you dare cut him), Jihoon (don’t cut him either), and Yoshi (seriously, I WILL KILL YOU).

Survivor 1 is Hyun Suk.  He’s been in tears this whole episode and now almost crumples to the floor.  I can’t imagine what our guy is going through.  He barely manages to make it to the platform.  Survivor 2 is Jihoon.  Which means that our sweet K-pop anime vampire and badass rapper Yoshi gets eliminated.  My heart is breaking along with his.

Only one more spot on the podium, and we still have two future Treasure members waiting, Junghwan and Jaehyuk.

The eliminated trainees leave.  Our eleven stand on the platform.  The announcer tells us that YG’s new group is among these eleven.  Oh, no it isn’t.  I can’t wait to write the final wrap-up essay explaining the total dumpster fire that finally led to the 10-member group we know, love, and take fashion advice from.

The announcer asks our CEO how many will be in the final group.  CEO Yang says that his decision has been changing every day.  Just the kind of decisive thinking we want from a CEO.  He’s finally decided the group will have seven members.  No, it fucking won’t. 

Sorry, I am fed up to here with our CEO, especially since I spent all that time trying to subliminally implant the number 10 in his head all last episode.  Up10tion just sent me an invoice, and I don’t want to talk about it.  We end the episode here.  We have eleven finalists, seven of whom have absolutely no idea what kind of debut is in store for them.

We have a lot of ground to cover over the next few days.  There’s the final episode of this show and the wrap-up, and in between all that, Starship Entertainment has a new survival show starting on YouTube.  I want to recap that one as it happens.

Jongseob has been waiting endlessly for an opportunity to introduce you to his band mates, today finally being a time for you to meet them. You quietly sat in the kitchen, your eyes focusing on your laptop that was sitting in front of you. You looked over at your boyfriend who walked into the house, a smile displayed brightly on his lips.

You looked at him in question, for he usually came with a terrible, tired mood. You only take a glance at his face before he came with bold eyes, his hands grasping your own.

“You’re free today, right?” His voice asked, filled with excitement.

You nodded your head, you hadn’t been busy for a while so you stuck around the house for a bit. Closing his eyes shut to hold in the excitement, he kept your hands held while jumping in an excited manner.

“You can meet them, my friends!” Although he mentioned the word ‘friends’ you understood he meant his band mates.

You lifted your body up as he led you to the car, bringing himself to the front seat with a hold of happiness filling him. You sat still beside him as he held softly onto your hand, explaining how each member would react to seeing you, his eyes glued to the road.

Once you two arrived at the dorms, it seemed that all the excitement that filled Jongseob had left him slightly, his eyes now filled with nervousness as the members looked at you two. Jongseob’s hands had now left yours, his head filled with many thoughts on how the members would react that you two were being affectionate.

He watched the members closely as they all greeted you, many reactions coming from them.

“Oh my god, they're so pretty.” Keeho put a hand over his mouth in shock, while Taeyang agreed on the side.

Intak and Jiung would be asking many questions towards you, their mouths unable to hold their curiosity.

“How’d y'all meet?” Jiung would ask respectfully, while intak would attempt to tease Jongseob, “Oh wow, you know he could have asked you out somewhere else, he’s been to Paris you know?” He would comment, also hyping his younger brother.

Shota would only stare, his eyes scared to meet your own. He felt nervous around you, scared Jongseob would scold him for even looking at you. Soon he’d start to be himself around you, realizing that you could be really friendly

30 but 17

I met Shin Hye Sun in Legend of the Blue Sea. She left a good impression and after Angel´s Last Mission: Love, I was already convinced she was a good actress. With 30 but 17, she positioned herself as one of my favorite actresses. This has become my favorite drama of hers.

Yang Se Jong has been the best main lead with her. I have not seen him in any other dramas, but he is so cute! They were sweet and had good chemistry. Her role as Seo Ri was sweet, and my favorite role. She nailed it.

Ahn Hyo Seob was so cute here, he looks really young. I like how at the end he did not rush his future. That was a good aspect of the drama, it shows you to value the life you have, and to enjoy things calmly, as they come. Everything fell into place naturally, and it left you with a warm feeling.

I am not going to lie, I binge-watched this k-drama. I found it endearing that Woo Seo Ri and Jeniffer referred to the rest of them as their family. Even when doctor Kim Hyung Tae was around after he found Seo Ri, I liked how they always showed the family she got. 

I saw Ye Ji Won in The Producers, where she had a minor role. She totally stole the scene in this drama. Jeniffer was amazing. Her backstory was wonderful.

I was not very happy with the aunt, because she just left Seo Ri behind, but I liked how at the end Seo Ri just forgave her and carried on with her life.
