food music
Apparently it was within the Decarlo drawn comic strip universe "canon" that Mr. Weatherbee hates Meat Loaf, the food not the singer, and at least that served by Miss Beazly in the cafeteria.
Quagmire: Hey, guys! There's a great concert in World Trade Center Plaza this weekend! Cleveland: Really? Who's playing? Quagmire: They got Korn, Cranberries, and Cake. Peter: Oh, that sounds delicious, but who are the bands? Quagmire: Oh, they're opening with Cake. Peter: Wait, shouldn't cake be last? It's a desert. Quagmire: No, Korn is last. Korn is a bigger draw than Cake. Peter: Corn is not a bigger draw than cake! Cake is delicious.

Daomu Biji Watcherās Guide, May 2024
A few new entries have been popping up lately, and Iām always hopeful new fans will stumble into the pits and never leave so I thought Iād paste up a rough map.
(Obviously the best watching order, like the best reading order of Discworld or the Aubrey-Maturin books, is āwhatever first comes to your handā but for the people who donāt like thatā¦)
tl;dr:
Daomu Biji is a series about tomb raiding. Think Indiana Jones or Lara Croft but much, much longer. The protagonist Wu Xie is deeply in love with BFF1 Zhang Qiling, a hundred-year-old cryptid, and BFF2 Wang Pangzi, who was stolen in a raid from another book series. Itās comic, tragic, horrific, zany, prone to musings on life, love, desire, attachment, and has many, many piss jokes. (āJourney to the West but modernā is maybe the other comparison Iād make.)
Notes:
ā This guide is not talking about āqualityā. All of the adaptations have their own strengths and weaknesses and tone can vary a great deal, which is to say, if one of them doesnāt suit you itās likely something else will.
ā Wacky endings, and plot threads that disappear unfinished and get picked up a long time later, are as inherent to the franchise as the piss jokes.
ā Itās common for the dramas to introduce characters and subplots a lot earlier than the books do. Sometimes weāll see a character introduced āfor the first timeā on multiple occasions and strangely familiar scenes. Iāll try to point out the biggest continuity clashes as I go.
The Soft Entry:
There are a few movies that are entertaining as standalones but will introduce various characters and background. I would recommend:
Escape from the Monstrous Snake + Mystery/Grave of the Abyss ā two monster movies featuring Hei Xiazi, a supporting character. Heās a pragmatical mercenary whoās going blind in kind of a weird way, and goofy as hell when he isnāt tiptoeing over a vast abyss of existential dread. So many fun action scenes.
Time Raiders (2015) ā so there are some textual clues that late in his career Wu Xie wrote this story as a memory-jogger for an amnesiac friend. The plot is a freewheeling wild ride which doesnāt directly match any book plot but introduces some major characters and how they relate to each other. Itās colourful and fast-moving. Enjoy, enjoy.
Conjuring Curse and Misty Creed areā¦ theoretically set late in the series even if the actors look about twelve. Both work as stand-alone adventures, though Misty Creed is maybe a little deep in the lore. Again, colourful and fast-moving.
The Chronological Order
You could honestly start with most of these ā they tend to come with a āwhat has gone beforeā at the start or a newbie character that things get explained to. The only one I wouldnāt start with is Heavenly Palace in the Clouds, which is lovely but also the second half of a set and things wonāt make sense if you havenāt seen Lost Tomb 2 first.
Lost Tomb 1 ā a highly digestible 10-12 episode version of the Seven Star Lu Palace arc, ie. Babyās First Adventure. Introduces A-Ning, Xie Yuchen, and Huo Xiuxiu early and a couple of og characters for Wu Xie to talk to instead of monologuing to himself. The restaurant scene at the end was raided from a later arc and youāll see it again in Ultimate Note. A book character, Da Kui, was cut which is a small problem because how he died is a minor plot point discussed in Lost Tomb 2.Ā
Lost Tomb 2 ā covers Raging Sea, Hidden Sands (underwater tomb) and Qinling God-Tree (weird bronze tree in the mountains) plus a whole lotta side stories and original content exploring the world and foreshadowing later plots. Mooostly in continuity with Lost Tomb 1 (see Da Kui above) and made as a set with Heavenly Palace in the Clouds ā they share resources and a lot of actors, and some threads begun here are finished in Heavenly Palace.
Heavenly Palace in the Clouds ā covers the Mt Changbai arc, a journey up a mountain to find a very old, very grand tomb. This was made so close to Lost Tomb 2 that LT2 borrows shots from Heavenly Palace and not the other way around, which is fascinating because it pointedly contradicts the last five episodes of LT2. It also brings forward some plotlines originally from the Tamutuo and Zhang Family Old Pavilion arcs (San-shuās past in the underwater tomb, and the Huo Family videotapes) dragging some characters on-screen and forcing them to talk about their feelings, which they would clearly rather die than do. Given those plot-tweaks and the early, deliberate continuity clash, Iām tempted to call this a Canon Parallel Universe. Got some interestingly chewy character dynamics and luverly, luverly set design.
Mystic Nine ā This is a prequel about Zhang Qishan ā Fo-ye ā and his peers, but later dramas expect us to know who Fo-ye was so Iām sticking it here. Kindaā¦ picaresque? Lots of action scenes and Republican-era flavour and various factions jostling for power ā kinda feels like an old-school wuxia story, only set in the 1930s with all that glorious Republican-era styling. Has some unfortunate cut scenes ā the details of how Fo-ye recovered at his familyās house donāt make a lot of sense in the aired version, and there are a couple of missing fights in the penultimate episode. Shrug. Still a lot of fun. Comes with four side movies about supporting characters.
Ultimate Note ā Covers the Tamutuo arc (a trip through the jungle) and two-thirds of the Zhang Family Old Pavilion arc (investigating Zhang Qilingās past is like kicking a hornetās nest). Very, very flirty and has some zippy-zip action choreography. Politely ignores Lost Tomb 1āHeavenly Palace continuity (Xie Yuchen is, once more, introduced for the first time, now with a romantically coded friendship arc) and brings in a lot of cameos from Mystic Nine and Sand Sea, which it was filmed after. Kinda tiptoes around parts of the book plot, which I suspect would be hard for anyone to film, re: Fo-yeās actions in the 1960s. Fair warning, this ends on a cliffhanger. This is also where the Xinyue Restaurant scene appears again ā two cakes!
Tibetan Sea Flower ā If Tibetan Sea Flower ever airs, it will go here.
Sand Sea ā Based on the Sand Sea novel. After Tibetan Sea Flower, Wu Xie goes into a bit of a decline and makes that the worldās problem. We the audience, plus Li Cu and Liang Wan, EDIT: a lovely doctor, are pretty much dropped in media res into a number of ancient conspiracies and complicated plots coming to a head in the manner of a boil. Itās weird; itās messy; itās mad fun. Like Mystic Nine, has a lot of factions jostling for power and colourful jianghu characters. We will, once more, see the Xinyue Restaurant scene. Also has some side movies.
Time Raiders ā The textual hints that suggest Wu Xie wrote this, suggest he wrote it around Sand Sea-era, when his life was a bit complicated. Iām putting it after Sand Sea because I believe it caps a conversation that, ah, doesnāt quite make it into the drama. But notionally this is where it should go. Ahā¦. at one point, someone tells a story about an ancient ruler, King Mu of Zhou, who sought immortality from the Queen of the West in Tamutuo. The longer book conversation suggests that a) King Mu of Zhou engineered a ātrapā for someone like Wu Xie to fall into in the future, and b) that Iron Mask Scholar, a villain from Lost Tomb 1, was an alias that King Mu of Zhou used in the Warring States Era. Which makes some of Iron Mask Scholarās appearances in Time Raidersā¦ interesting.
Reunion: Sound of Providence ā sometimes known as Reboot. Having peaked in badassery in Sand Sea, Wu Xie has to consider what his life is going to be now, and also, he would like to track down a missing family member. So this was tweaked to make it more accessible to new viewers (so some parts of the back-story are not mentioned or conflated for simplicity) and that mostly works but I did find watching this first and then picking up the earlier dramas a bit of a mindscrew. Zhu Yilong is, however, a powerful draw and the rest of the cast sparkles. Probably best to think of Season 1 as two short seasons jammed together, which is to say, once the Warehouse 11 arc starts there are a number of characters who wonāt reappear until Season 2. Itās a fun arc even so. Season 2 ends with a badass action scene and then a big party, which I think is a great way to end a story.
Escape from the Monstrous Snake, Mystery/Grave of the Abyss, Conjuring Curse, Misty Creed ā these are all theoretically set around or after Reboot-era, though they can certainly be watched as stand-alones.

[DECEMBER ā21] - THE LIFE/WRITING UPDATE NO ONE ASKED FOR (AND SOME QUICK LINKS)
happy december! i hope youāre all doing well, i certainly am glad the shittiest month of the year is over. i had a rather bizarre november where i spent the first half writing for nanowrimo and the second half being sick (covid? bronchitis? iām not sure but i was coughing my lungs out) so now that iām feeling better, iām glad to be moving into the holiday season! whichever holiday you celebrate, i hope itās a great one and hopefully, 2022 treats us kindly.
Anyway, before diving into more life/writing updates, here are some quick links to different blog pages you might not see on mobile :
to read my fics
to read my original work
fic recs [updated]
to read my tumblr rants about stuff
[NOTE: i am currently not accepting prompts but maybe soon-ish?]
Castles (chap 10) ETA: december? january? february? who knows? (more on that below)
links extended a/n-s: chapter v ; chapter vi & vii ; chapter viii ; chapter ix ; chapter x
[more life/writing updates under the cut]
what iām reading:
books:
in typical pebblysand fashion, i went from finishing two books in a week last october to reading none at all this month. i started enfant de salaud, sorj chalandonās latest release, but am only about 50 pages in. iām not sure if iāve ever spoken about this on here but whilst i am originally french, i very rarely ever read fiction in french (nor write it, for that matter) and probably havenāt done so for at least fifteen years. that is, of course, save for my love, sorj. he is without a doubt my favourite contemporary french author, the only one for whom i still read in my mother tongue.
this being said, while i am a hardcore stan of his work, his books are deep and heavy. like, castles is nothing compared to what this man writes. so, i will admit, you sort of have to be in the mood to read his work. heās a former war reporter who covered most contemporary conflicts including the troubles, palestine, but the klaus barbie trials, etc. and, the way he writes fiction is very reflective of that (his books are actually often half fiction and half not). his style is quick and crisp (almost journalistic), and i would argue that, as i put it in castles for harry, the man has a battlefield in his head. most of his books are either centered around literal or metaphorical fights for survival. and, whilst i do feel a strong kinship and have a deep admiration for his work as someone who, perhaps to a lesser extent, also writes quite a lot about fighting and determination, i find that i have to be in a certain headspace to read his work. his are the kind of books that you read in one sitting and never feel the same afterwards (god, certainly, the first one i read, return to killysbegs fucking lives in my head, still, ten years later). so, iām kind of holding back on this new one until i have proper time to dive and digest it over the christmas holidays.
fics:
iām still reading: knowing where to look by ala_baguette and still loving it.
i also read donāt you tame your demons (but always keep them on a leash) by ellasticella. i donāt know man. itās a concept. au slytherin!hermione. i feel like this fic could have gone into a place and then it went into another place. iām still not sure how i feel about it but itās very well written.
i completely gave up on love in a time of a zombie apocalypse but oh my sweet holy jesus mary mother of god, THIS FIC: the squid by nargles15. now, as a preamble i will warn you: whilst nargles has assured me that they are working on this fic, itās sort of their side project so itās not finished and gets updatedā¦ whenever they feel like it. which, fair enough. it doesnāt matter, i will wait two years if i have to, because i am obsessed. I literally sometimes go and check the number of kudos on it because i want more people to read it. i found nargles because they left a very kind comment on castles and because i am a stalker (lol). i have single handedly decided that we are now best friends haha (they agreed though!!). no, jokes aside, i saw this fic on their profile and thought the pitch was interesting, so i added it to my tbr and here we are. think: canon-compliant up until the end of DH (minus the epilogue), but then the muggle prime minister decides, as payback for all the violence against muggles committed by voldemort, to launch a war against wizards. andā¦ well, shit ensues. now, first, that is a brilliant plot. i find this version of an apocalyptic/dystopian hp world so believable and easy to fall into. i could totally see muggles launching a decimating, ruinous war in the early 00s, canāt you? second, i love the way the writer here keeps so much mystery as to what happened and how things unfolded. the point at which the fic starts isnāt the start of this war, but months (years?) into it. that gives a sense of normalcy to the abnormal that iāve always been fascinated with and which, i find, is not very often acknowledged in the genre. a bit like when the trio is hiding out in the forest in dh, there is a routine to being hunted, there is a routine to war, and nargles does that beautifully. and, because you donāt get all the details of what happened, youāre sort of reading through the fic thinking: ohhhhh, but what happened before this? for reasons that i have explained before, mystery is something i canāt really play with in castles (we all know how it ends since i always said i was following canon) so while reading this fic, itās like iām getting to do that by proxy. in terms of ship, i would say itās mostly canon couples. harry and ginny are an established item, so are ron and hermione. thereās some dean/seamus but thatās basically canon, yeah? then of course, the writing is gorgeous. i mean like, hands down, one of the best written fics out there. some of the quotes still live in my head. i wrote a very embarrassingly excited comment when i finished reading, listing all the quotes i had loved, and found myself almost quoting the whole thing. itās funny because i generally find it hard to find fics i love in the potter fandom. thatās not a diss to anyone out there writing or anything, but itās just that i have a very particular style, and i like things written in a particular style, and most of the stuff i see is written in another style. iāve had a number of people look through my recs/ao3 bookmarks being like: āitās funny, you never recommend the same stuff as other people do.ā and this fic 100% fits within that category. i find the writing absolutely gorgeous, but itās not the type of thing youāll mostly see in the fandom and iām soooo happy i found it cause i absolutely adore it. okay, iāve just realised iāve written an essay about this fic and could probably write a lot more but i will stop here in the hopes that i have sufficiently sold it to you. go send nargles some love please.
.
what iām watching:
i tried succession. man, iām sorry, i know the whole of tumblr is obsessed but i just cannot get into it. i have just so little sympathy for the patriarch character that i just want him to die and the long agony is wearing me out. i do like siobhan though. i mostly still watch for siobhan.
i obviously watched the new series of tiger king which was amazingly tiger-king-esque, and maybe she did kill her husband and maybe not and i donāt really care because this is prime entertainment. a few days ago, i also had what i refer to as my ānight of outrageā where i watched dark waters and spotlight back to back. both are excellent films which i would recommend. this being said, i then went to bed late, quite rightfully outraged.
i lastly watched the 9/11 turning point documentary on netflix which is good. and that is all i will say because itās not like iām currently writing a story that happens in the 00s and that would require context on the period in the muggle world. not at all. that is absolutely not where that story would hypothetically be going. at all. (yeah, iām a fucking tease, soz).
.
what iām hearing:
divorce, babe. divorce. enough said. iāve been listening to the queenās 30 on loop since it came out. man, strangers in nature and my little love. i am still speechless.
in terms of podcasts, iāve recently discovered the irish timeās womenās podcast and itās surprisingly good. they did a stan episode on sally rooney (but, donāt we all stan sally), also talking about the boom in popularity of irish female writers in general which was very interesting.
.
what iām writing:
okay so. i said last month i would do nanowrimo and write 50k of castles which i both did and didnāt do, let me explain.
basically, i started strong until i hit a wall around 21k. my main issue was that i was so focused on the wordcount itself and getting through the plot that i sort of lost the āfeelsā of my characters along the way. it was around the 15th of november and i decided to pivot because i cared more about writing this well than about just vomiting words on paper. so i went back and started editing what i had and ended up with 23k. then, when i was finally in the groove of writing, i got sick. i donāt know whether it was covid or not (i tested negative but did the test after my symptoms had abated so i not have been carrying enough virus to test positive) but the point is, i started coughing my lungs out on the 20th of november and have been struggling to focus until now. today (1 dec) was honestly the first day that i felt almost normal again, so it is what it is. i am hoping to be able to write later this week/this weekend but we shall see.
i would say that my updated goal is to get the next āchunkā of castles written by end of december, to be posted by end of january. and by āchunkā i mean probably two chapters? like, to me, there is a āchunkā that happens between now and when harry and ginny get back together and i estimate that chunk will be between 25-30k words. of those i have 23k rough draft and about 13k actually edited. the way i currently see it, itāll be two long chapters of circ. 15k each which i will probably post, if not back to back, as least in very quick succession, sometime early next year. iām splitting them more for theme coherence and readability but iām writing them both as a unit. so @blinkngone i guess thereās your answer to the question you asked on this post earlier today. basically h&g donāt get back together in next chapter but itāll feel like next chapter cause iāll post 10 and 11 at the same time-ish.
as i already said, iām really enjoying this chapter so far, though. as a lawyer, writing the trials and the intricacies of the post-war wizarding justice system is fascinating. i think this chapter (and the next) will also be a big reflection on what justice is as a concept and itās something iām having a lot of fun exploring.
.
what iām doing:
i have very much enjoyed hanging out in floreatcastellumās canon discord serve lately. iād joined a while back but never really participated, then i got sick and was on my phone all the time and the lads on there have been a lovely blessing.
aside from that, i wrote this post this month, and this one, which should give you kind of an idea of where my life is at. iāve been seeing someone who we will refer to as The Boy and i donāt know how i feel about it. itās funny cause iām 28 and iām starting to feelā¦ settled? i get up and i work from home and then a couple of nights a week i have pints with people. thatās it. ngl, the most exciting thing in my life right now is a piece of fanfiction and i keep feeling guilty about it because i feel like if iām making writing a priority, i at least ought for it to be original writing. in the past when iāve felt like this iāve moved countries but weāre in the middle of a pandemic and also i donāt want to leave ireland, so i dunno. my jobās a bit of a deadend but i canāt bring myself to care cause it pays well (i actually told a friend, the other day: ācovid has killed my ambitionā) so i dunno. iām not unhappy but i need a plan or something. iām not the kind of person who likes feeling āsettled.ā
lots of love,
pebblysand.

Once Upon A Dream
Pairing(s): Bucky Barnes x reader
Word count: probably a lot.
A-N: For the @the-ss-horniest-book-club with the prompt: chubby!reader confesses to Bucky that she has never been whooed/courted. The very next day she gets flowers, chocolates and an anonymous invitation to an candle light dinner. - @randomfandompenguin
"Are you serious?!" Bucky asked, mouth gaped open over the rim of his beer as he tried to digest your response to when the last date you had, and you answered you've never been on a date or even been an interest to someone. "That's insane. Guys are fucking blind these days huh? You're insanely gorgeous." You blushed from his words and muttered a quiet thank you, sipping your pepsi in your glass.
You didn't believe a word of it. He was just trying to make you feel better. But throughout your life you've always been called a fat bitch, just for being chubbier than most girls.
It was a quiet night in, the team were on missions and it was just you and Bucky relaxing with a movie, before he jumped on to the conversation of relationships.
Yay.
"Never, ever been out with someone? Come on, doll. You're pulling my arm. I bet you have guys lined up." He smirked but your expression on your face told him you weren't joking. The conversation was soon shifted onto him, he talked about a certain dark haired girl he took on a date. But he didn't remember her name.
Soon enough, you both called it a night, and bid a goodnight to him as you awkwardly adjusted your pajamas shorts since they had rode up your legs, exposing your thighs and stretch marks on the skin.
You wake up later than usual the next day with a growling stomach. You groaned and put on some leggings and an oversized shirt.
When you arrived in the kitchen, there was a large bouquet of flowers sitting in a vase on the kitchen island, with a box of chocolates with a ribbon wrapped around it and a small card wedged between the petals. You smiled as you walked towards the lovely package and read the note.
Meet me on the rooftop tonight 7pm sharp. - your secret admirer
You grinned and looked around the empty room. Something told you this was Bucky's doing. Since he's the only person to know of your lack of love life and your love for chocolate.
You took the bouquet to your room and placed them in your sunny windowsill, and put the box of chocolates in the drawer next to your bed for later, and carried on with your day with more bounce in your step.
By the time the evening came around, you were nervous because the person (ahem Bucky) didn't specify what to wear. So you hoped your dress was okay. Your dress showed off your curves and the shape of your legs. You cringed but now wasn't the time to get upset. You would simply enjoy your evening, whatever Bucky had planned.
10 minutes to go. You took a breath and made your way to the elevator, hitting the button for the rooftop.
When you stepped out, you gasped.
Bucky stood by your chair with his hands behind his back, in a black suit and tie. His hair slicked back. Candles on the clothed table and 2 dinners with a silver cover over them. A bottle of champagne on ice to the side on a trolley.
"Is this for me?" You asked, teary eyed.
"Of course doll. And not the first one either. Hope I can make up for the times those idiots missed out on." He smiled and held the chair out for you.
"James Barnes. You're the most amazing man in the world and I hope you know that."
"I do. And it's thanks to you doll for being so kind and accepting. Let's eat."

TOP 10 INK AND COLOR ARTISTS OF 2019ā²S REVIEWS
This year I felt the need to also do this list. Why? Well, when I was going through the most prominent artists with a 10 score, I noticed that some names were in almost all of them, but they werenāt the main artists. These artists are mostly inkers and colorists, and they are industry professionals, that usually worked for the publisher directly. This is the main reason they were involved in most of the art teams. Some of these were working for hire though. But you will also notice that unlike the writers and pencillers lists, this one is a lot more diverse.
NUMBER TEN JOHN HIGGINS (1949 - PRESENT)
John Higgins (born 1949) is an English comic book artist and writer. He did significant work for 2000 AD, and he has frequently worked with writer Alan Moore, most notably as colorist for Watchmen.
John Higgins was born in Walton, Liverpool. After leaving school when he was 15, he joined the army and, on leaving, spent some time in a commune in Wiltshire. He returned to Liverpool and, in 1971, resumed his studies at Wallasey College of Art. There, in 1974 he qualified in technical illustration, which allowed him to get a job as a medical illustrator at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
After getting his first comic book art published in Brainstorm in 1975, he drew the cover for 2000 AD No. 43 in 1977 and decided to go freelance in 1978, with an eye on becoming a comic artist. In 1981 he started getting regular work at 2000 AD, one of his early projects being the art for a Tharg's Future Shocks by Alan Moore, as well as doing covers for Marvel UK.
After this he worked steadily at 2000 AD and joined the British Invasion in the mid-eightiesānotably doing the colouring on Moore's Watchmen and Batman: The Killing Joke, a job he got through colouring Steve Dillon's art on Moore's ABC Warriors story. This led to more work in the American market, although he has kept working on British titles too especially with Judge Dredd over 20 years.
He provided the art for Greysuit with Pat Mills, as well as working with Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti on The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning and Jonah Hex No. 28.
Higgins is also a writer. He wrote and drew his first Future Shock at 2000 AD and did the same for Razorjack, a comic book mini-series from Com.x, which was reprinted in 2009.
Higgins has worked in a number of different areas providing artwork for animation, film and book covers like The Cabinet of Light and The Morgaine Stories. In 2012, Higgins worked on the Before Watchmen project, drawing the serialised feature "Curse of the Crimson Corsair" which was initially written by Len Wein. Higgins later became the writer of the feature as well.
In 2016 he provided the art for six stamps commemorating the Great Fire of London, illustrating them in the style of a comic strip.
In 2017 a collection of his artwork was exhibited at the Victoria Gallery & Museum in Liverpool, in an exhibition called Beyond Dredd & Watchmen: The Art of John Higgins.
Higgins made it into the list thanks to his work onĀ āBatman: The Killing Jokeā andĀ āWatchmenā.
NUMBER NINE ROMEO TANGHAL (1943 - PRESENT)
Romeo Tanghal (born 1943) is a Filipino comics artist who has worked primarily as an inker. He became well known in the industry in the 1980s for his work on DC Comics' The New Teen Titans.
Romeo Tanghal was born and raised in the Philippines. A selfātaught artist, he started doing comics illustrations after graduating high school. He briefly worked with various local publications before emigrating to the United States in 1976. His first published work in the U.S. was "If There Were No Batman... I Would Have to Invent Him" in Batman #284 (Feb. 1977) for DC Comics. He then drew short stories for House of Mystery, House of Secrets, and Weird War Tales. He later became the inker on such features as Super Friends, "Scalphunter" in Weird Western Tales, and "Gravedigger" in Men of War. In 1980, Tanghal became the inker of George PĆ©rez's penciled artwork on The New Teen Titans. Tanghal drew two origin stories for DC's digest line during this time, a ten-page short story in DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #5 (Nov.āDec. 1980) featuring Zatara and Zatanna and the origin of the Penguin in The Best of DC #10 (March 1981). Tanghal began working for Marvel Comics as well in 1986. He inked the comics adaptations of such films as Labyrinth, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, and Willow. Tanghal did character design and storyboards for Sunbow Entertainment from 1985 to 1987.
Tanghal received an Inkpot Award in 2013.
I usually think of Romeo when I think about the team of Wolfman and PĆ©rez. Their work on New Teen Titans is the main reason he made it into this list.
NUMBER EIGHT LYNN VARLEY (1958 - PRESENT)
Lynn Varley is an award-winning American comic book colorist, notable for her collaborations with her then-husband, comic book writer/artist Frank Miller.
Varley grew up in Livonia, Michigan. Moving to New York City, she found work at Neal Adams' Continuity Associates. She debuted as a comic book colorist on Batman Annual # 8 (1982), written by Mike W. Barr and penciled by her then partner Trevor Von Eeden. Around the same time, she became professionally involved with Upstart Associates, a shared studio space on West 29th Street formed by Walter Simonson, Howard Chaykin, Val Mayerik, and Jim Starlin. Varley colored the first two issues of Chaykin's American Flagg! Frank Miller later became part of Upstart.
Varley provided the coloring for Miller's Ronin (1984), an experimental six-issue series from DC Comics that proved that comics in unusual formats could be commercially successful; and The Dark Knight Returns (1986), a four issue mini-series that went on to become an outstanding commercial and critical success. Miller also noted that Varley helped create the futuristic slang that Carrie Kelley and other characters use.
Subsequently, Varley colored other Miller books, including The Dark Knight Strikes Again, 300, Elektra Lives Again, Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot (with Geoff Darrow), as well as a number of covers for the U.S. editions of the Lone Wolf and Cub series. She also colored the backgrounds for the 300 movie (2007), produced by Miller.
Varley has only worked sporadically in the comics industry since 2005.
Varley and Miller were married from 1986 to 2005. They moved from New York City to Los Angeles in the late 1980s and moved back to New York shortly before the September 11 attacks.
Because of her collaborations with Miller, Lynn made it into this list thanks to her work onĀ āRoninā,Ā āThe Dark Knight Returnsā andĀ āWolverineā.
NUMBER SEVEN GLYNIS āWEINā OLIVER (1949 - PRESENT)
Glynis Oliver, also credited as Glynis Wein is an artist who has worked as a colorist in the comics industry. For several years, she was married to Len Wein. She returned to her maiden name in 1985. She was born in England.
She has been recognized for her work in the industry with a Shazam Award for Best Colorist in 1973.
Glynis has an extensive career in comics, but the reason she made it into this list was her work onĀ āUncanny X-Menā, more specificallyĀ āthe Dark Pheonix Sagaā and theĀ āWolverineā mini-series.
NUMBER SIX BRAD ANDERSON
Not to mistake with the creator of Marmaduke.
Brad Anderson is a cartoonist and comic book colourist. He began his career in 1998 working for DC Comics in 1998 on the title Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight. Ever since he has worked on countless comics for different publishers including Dark Horse Comics and Marvel Comics
Most recently, he has been working on titles like Batman Eternal, Green Lantern, Justice League and Convergence.
Little is known about Bradās life (odd considering the popularity of the material he is part of). He made it into this list thanks to his work on theĀ āWitching Hourā crossover and also on the Shazam Origin that run on the Justice League book.
NUMBER FIVE ANTHONY TOLLIN (1952 - PRESENT)
Anthony Tollin is a professional comic book colourist. Tollin started working for DC Comics in the early 70s as an assistant to Tatjana Wood in the coloring department. In the early 80s, he became the main colourist for DC, doing almost all of the covers of the publications of the company at the time. Tollin worked for DC until the early 90s, when he started working for other publishers.
He is in this list thanks to his work onĀ āVigilanteā,Ā āAmbush Bugā andĀ āCrisis on Infinite Earthsā.
NUMBER FOUR ADRIENNE ROY (1953 - 2010)
Adrienne Roy (June 28, 1953 ā December 14, 2010) was a comic book color artist who worked mostly for DC Comics. She was largely responsible for coloring the Batman line (Batman and Detective Comics) throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.
Roy attended an art school in Wayne, New Jersey, where she studied painting techniques. Her first contact with comics was through collecting Marvel Comics' Tomb of Dracula, The Sub-Mariner and Conan the Barbarian. Roy's first work as a comics colorist was assisting her husband Anthony Tollin, who worked for DC Comics at the times. But it was long-time colorist Jack Adler who would give her the first job at DC: the cover of DC Special Series #8 (featuring the Batman, Deadman and Sgt. Rock team-up). Adler and Sol Harrison (who was also a colorist) were considered by Roy herself as her mentors and both trained her on coloring during her first years at DC.
Roy was also responsible for the coloring on many other titles during that time period: The New Teen Titans, The Warlord, Weird War Tales and Madame Xanadu. Nevertheless, she is predominantly known for her work on the Batman books: Batman, Detective Comics, Batman: Shadow of the Bat, Batman: Gotham Knights, and Robin.
When computerized colors arrived to comics, the assignments to classic colorists decreased a lot. By 2000 Roy was largely out of work, despite training herself on the computer. Roy spent her last days battling cancer and died in Austin, Texas, at age 57 on December 14, 2010.
Adrienne Roy illustrated most of the comics of my childhood, and herĀ āfuchsiaā skies are pretty much her trademark on many Batman comics. She made it into this list thanks to her work onĀ āNew Teen Titansā,Ā āBatman and the Outsidersā, Tales of the Teen Titansā,Ā āThe Judas Contractā,Ā āBatmanā andĀ āDetective Comicsā.
NUMBER THREE TERRY AUSTIN (1952 - PRESENT)
Terry Kevin Austin (born August 23, 1952) is an American comics artist, working primarily as an inker. He is best known for his work embellishing John Byrne's pencils on Uncanny X-Men from 1977 to 1981.
Austin grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Wayne State University. He started inking comics as an assistant to Dick Giordano and Neal Adams, doing "Crusty Bunker" work for Adams' Continuity Associates. Austin came to prominence in 1976ā1977, inking Marshall Rogers' pencils on a celebrated run of Batman stories for DC Comics' Detective Comics collaborating with writer Steve Englehart. During this same period, Austin inked Michael Netzer (Nasser) on DC's Martian Manhunter in Adventure Comics and Green Arrow/Black Canary in World's Finest Comics, as well as Al Milgrom on Marvel Comics' Captain Marvel. He later teamed with Rogers again on Marvel's Doctor Strange.
In 1977, Austin and penciler John Byrne became the new art team on Uncanny X-Men. With writer Chris Claremont they produced a series of stories ā particularly "The Dark Phoenix Saga" ā which elevated the title into the top-selling American comic book.
Austin resides near Poughkeepsie, New York, where he plays volleyball and gets together often with fellow comics veteran Fred Hembeck.
Terry is a very popular inker that has almost no presence online (only through Fred Hembeck). He made it into this list mostly for his work onĀ āCamelot 3000ā³ andĀ āUncanny X-Menā, most specifically,Ā āThe Dark Phoenixā saga.
NUMBER TWO DICK GIORDANO (1932 - 2010)
Richard Joseph "Dick" Giordano (July 20, 1932 ā March 27, 2010) was an American comics artist and editor whose career included introducing Charlton Comics' "Action Heroes" stable of superheroes and serving as executive editor of DC Comics.
Dick Giordano, an only child, was born in New York City on July 20, 1932, in the borough of Manhattan to Josephine Labruzzi and Graziano "Jack" Giordano. He attended the School of Industrial Art.
Beginning as a freelance artist at Charlton Comics in 1952, Giordano contributed artwork to dozens of the company's comics, including such Western titles as Annie Oakley, Billy the Kid, and Wyatt Earp, the war comic Fightin' Army, and scores of covers.
Giordano's artwork from Charlton's Strange Suspense Stories was used as inspiration for artist Roy Lichtenstein's 1965/1966 Brushstroke series, including Brushstroke, Big Painting No. 6, Little Big Painting and Yellow and Green Brushstrokes.
By the mid-1960s a Charlton veteran, Giordano rose to executive editor, succeeding Pat Masulli, by 1965. As an editor, he made his first mark in the industry, overseeing Charlton's revamping of its few existing superheroes and having his artists and writers create new such characters for what he called the company's "Action Hero" line. Many of these artists included new talent Giordano brought on board, including Jim Aparo, Dennis O'Neil, and Steve Skeates.
DC Comics vice president Irwin Donenfeld hired Giordano as an editor in April 1968, at the suggestion of Steve Ditko, with Giordano bringing over to DC some of the creators he had nurtured at Charlton. Giordano was given several titles such as Teen Titans, Aquaman and Young Love, but none of DC's major series. He launched the horror comics series The Witching Hour in March 1969, and the Western series All-Star Western vol. 2 in September 1970.
He continued to freelance for DC as a penciler and inker. As an artist, Giordano was best known as an inker. His inking was particularly associated with the pencils of Neal Adams, for their run in the early 1970s on the titles Batman and Green Lantern/Green Arrow. Comics historian Les Daniels observed that "The influential Adams style moved comics closer to illustration than cartooning, and he brought a menacing mood to Batman's adventures that was augmented by Dick Giordano's dark, brooding inks."
By 1971, frustrated by what he felt was a lack of editorial opportunities, Giordano had left DC to partner with fellow artist Neal Adams for their Continuity Associates studios, which served as an art packager for comic book publishers, including such companies as Giordano's former employer Charlton Comics, Marvel Comics, and the one-shot Big Apple Comix. Several comics artists began their careers at Continuity and many were mentored by Giordano during their time there.
He had a brief run as penciler of the Wonder Woman series which included a two-issue story in issues #202ā203 (October and December 1972) written by science-fiction author Samuel R. Delany. Giordano drew several backup stories in Action Comics featuring the Human Target character as well as the martial arts feature "Sons of the Tiger" in Marvel's black-and-white comics magazine The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu. He was a frequent artist on Batman and Detective Comics and he and writer Denny O'Neil created the Batman supporting character Leslie Thompkins in the story "There Is No Hope in Crime Alley" in Detective Comics #457 (March 1976). Giordano inked the large-format, first DC/Marvel intercompany crossover, Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man (1976), over the pencils of Ross Andru. Giordano inked Adams on the one-shot Superman vs. Muhammad Ali in 1978. Throughout the late 1970s and the early 1980s, Ross Andru and Giordano were DC's primary cover artists, providing cover artwork for the Superman titles as well as covers for many of the other comics in the DC line at that time.
In 1980, DC publisher Jenette Kahn brought Giordano back to DC. Initially the editor of the Batman titles, Giordano was named the company's new managing editor in 1981, and promoted to vice president/executive editor in 1983, a position he held until 1993. DC Comics writer and executive Paul Levitz observed in 2010 that "Giordano held the respect of talent as one of their own, and kept their affection with his reassuring calm and warmth."
Giordano provided art for several anniversary issues of key DC titles. He and television writer Alan Brennert crafted the story "To Kill a Legend" in Detective Comics #500 (March 1981). Giordano was one of the artists on the double-sized Justice League of America #200 (March 1982) as well as Wonder Woman #300 (Feb. 1983) He was promoted to Vice-President/Executive Editor in 1984, and with Kahn and Levitz, oversaw the relaunch of all of DC's major characters with the Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series in 1985. This was followed by Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen in 1986. Giordano inked several major projects during this time such as George PĆ©rez's pencils on Crisis on Infinite Earths and John Byrne's pencils on The Man of Steel and Action Comics, though during this period he always employed assistants for inking backgrounds, filling in large black areas, and making final erasures.
From 1983 to 1987, Giordano wrote a monthly column published in DC titles called "Meanwhile..." which much like Marvel's "Bullpen Bulletins" featured news and information about the company and its creators. Unlike "Bullpen Bulletins," which was characterized by an ironic, over-hyped tone, Giordano's columns ". . . were written in a relatively sober, absolutely friendly voice, like a friend of your father's you particularly liked and didn't mind sitting down to listen to." Giordano closed each "Meanwhile..." column with the characteristic words, "Thank you and good afternoon."
The Vertigo imprint was launched in early 1993 built upon the success several titles edited by Karen Berger including Swamp Thing, Hellblazer, Sandman, Doom Patrol, Animal Man, and Shade, the Changing Man. Giordano inked six issues of The Sandman in 1991-1993.
Beginning in 1987, Giordano was in the middle of an industry-wide debate about the comics industry, ratings systems, and creators' rights. Veteran writers Mike Friedrich, Steven Grant, and Roger Slifer all cited Giordano in particular for his hard-line stance on behalf of DC. This debate led in part to the 1988 drafting of the Creator's Bill of Rights.
Giordano left DC in 1993, and still did the occasional inking job, but later returned to freelancing full-time. In 1994 Giordano illustrated a graphic novel adaptation of the novel Modesty Blaise released by DC Comics, with creator/writer Peter O'Donnell. He was one of the many artists who contributed to the Superman: The Wedding Album one-shot in 1996 wherein the title character married Lois Lane.
In 2002, Giordano launched the short-lived Future Comics with writer David Michelinie and artist Bob Layton. Since 2002, Giordano had drawn several issues of The Phantom published in Europe and Australia. In 2004, Giordano and writer Roy Thomas completed an adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula novel. They had begun the project in 1974 but the cancellation of many of Marvel's black and white magazines put it into limbo. The finished story was collected into a hardcover edition in 2005 and a colorized hardcover edition in 2010. In 2005, F+W Publications Inc. published the instructional art book Drawing Comics with Dick Giordano, which he wrote and illustrated. His last mainstream work appeared in Jonah Hex vol. 2, #51 (March 2010) for which he drew the interior art and the cover. His last comics work was pencilling and editing Baron Five, published by Hound Comics.
Giordano married the former Marie Trapani, sister of fellow comics artist Sal Trapani, on April 17, 1955. She died from complications of her second stomach cancer surgery in February 1993. They had three children together; Lisa, Dawn, and Richard Jr. Marie's death, combined with Giordano's increasing hearing loss, hastened his decision to retire from DC. Following the death of his wife, Giordano split time between homes in Florida and Connecticut. In 1995, he moved to Palm Coast, Florida, where he continued to work full-time freelancing, until his death. Giordano had suffered from lymphoma and later from leukemia, secondary to the chemotherapy. He died on March 27, 2010 due to complications of pneumonia.
Giordano served as mentor or inspiration to a generation of inkers, including Terry Austin, Mike DeCarlo, and Bob Layton.
Shortly after Giordano's death in 2010, The Hero Initiative created "The Dick Giordano Humanitarian of the Year Award", which debuted at the 2010 Harvey Awards ceremony held at the Baltimore Comic-Con. The award recognizes one person in comics each year who demonstrates particular generosity and integrity in support of the overall comic book community.
Giordano received recognition in the industry for his work, including the Alley Award for Best Editor in 1969. He won the Shazam Award for Best Inker (Dramatic Division) in 1970 (for Green Lantern), 1971, 1973 (for Justice League of America), and 1974. He won the 1971 Goethe Award for "Favorite Pro Editor." Giordano received an Inkpot Award in 1981. In 2009 he was awarded the Inkwell Awards Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Award.
My favorite anecdote of Dick Giordano, is from Karen Berger (from the bookĀ āThe British Invasion: Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrisonā) about Grant Morrisonās thick Glaswegian accent.
āWhen I first met Grant, I was with Dick Giordano and Jenette Khan. I had set up appointments pretty much every hour with different writers and artists in this suite that we had rented to meet people, and Grant was the last person we saw on one of the days. And Dick Giordano was very hard of hearing... he wore two hearing aids and when Grant came in, Grant started talking and [Giordano] just took off his hearing aids and left the room. He couldnāt even read his lips.ā
Dick Giordano is a legend, but he is in this list because of his work onĀ āCamelot 3000ā³,Ā āTales of the Teen Titansā,Ā āVigilanteā andĀ āCrisis on Infinite Earthsā.
NUMBER ONE TATJANA WOOD (1926 - PRESENT)
Tatjana Wood (nƩe Tatjana Weintraub, in Darmstadt, Germany) is an American artist and comic book colorist.
Tatjana's father was Jewish, and her mother was Christian. During World War II, she and her brother, Karl Joachim Weintraub, were sent to an international Quaker boarding school in the Netherlands. Gaining Dutch citizenship was not easy, so after World War II, the Quakers arranged for the two to travel to New York City in 1947. Karl went on to the University of Chicago, while Tatjana stayed in New York, attending the Traphagen School of Fashion. In 1949, she met Wally Wood, and they married August 28, 1950.
During the 1950s and 1960s, she sometimes made uncredited contributions to Wood's artwork. One of the stories she worked on was "Carl Akeley" in EC Comics' Two-Fisted Tales #41 (FebruaryāMarch 1955). She did a number of animal drawings for that story.
Later, beginning in 1969, she did extensive work for DC Comics as a comic book colorist. She was the main colorist for DC's covers from 1973 through the mid-1980s. Wood did coloring work on the interiors of comics as well, including Grant Morrison's acclaimed run on Animal Man, Alan Moore's issues of Swamp Thing, and Camelot 3000. She won the Shazam Award for Best Colorist in 1971 and 1974. Tatjana has had no significant credits in the comics industry since 2003.
She is also a skilled dressmaker and weaver, who has crafted theatrical costumes and pictorial loom tapestries.
Tatjana's brother Karl died March 25, 2004. He was a distinguished scholar at the University of Chicago and the author of two books, Visions of Culture: Voltaire-Guizot-Burckhardt-Lamprecht-Huizinga-Ortega y Gassett (1966) and The Value of the Individual: Self and Circumstance in Autobiography (1978).
Tatjana Wood has been mostly uncredited for most of her career. It is only thanks to interviews and reprints that we know of her work on many essential books, like the original Swamp Thing volume.
She made it into this list because of her work onĀ āSwamp Thingā andĀ āCamelot 3000ā³.
There were more artists that didnāt make it to the top 10, but were considered: Bob Oksner, Bruce D. Patterson, Tom Ziuko, Tom McCraw, Alfredo Alcala, Mike DeCarlo, Joe Rubinstein, Klaus Janson, Malcolm Jones III, Norm Breyfogle (for both lists) and Steve Oliff.
Being an inker or a colorist in comics can be an ungrateful job. But they mean a lot to certain artists. It is not the same to be inked by Romeo Tanghal or by Mike Royer. And because most of these artists had permanent contracts with their publishers, they ended up growing up in the industry. To all of them, thanks for the comics!

The Mood: Blog #7Ā āWhat even is mainstream...even??ā
started like 3 weeks ago... Ā Ā Is taste in music really subjective? Or is it perspective? Obviously there's a common formula to pop (which is short for popular) that makes a song more digestible to the general public- more commercial (Intro, verse, chorus, re-intro tease maybe, verse2, chorus2, bridge, Chorus3 with a little re-intro maybe). A simple hook and dancy beat never hurt, either. Then of course there's the performance and production. I'd argue that a lot of a song's approval/success has to do with the mix of the song (but for most, that's more subconscious).Ā
I'd say at least 90% of us are really looking at lyrics as the main check-box; are they relatable/do they flow? Then, with all those key elements in mind (and some others, depending on the goal) the authenticity of it all. From the structure to the lyrics to the performance(s) to the production to the mix/master; do they all compliment each other in a friendly and/or interesting way?
Ā Ā Ā So with all that in mind, there are some things that are subjective: Relatable - that depends on the demographic/individual. But some lyrics are literally relatable to everyone.Ā
Performance ?? - Sure, everyone knows aĀ good singer/drummer/guitarist when they hear one. But taste is the real subjective factor. Does the player's ability get out of hand and distract from the authenticity of the song? Technicality and raw emotion have heavy hands but sometimes less is more. "Music is not a sport," but to some shredders, it is! (Part of what makes Blink 182 so powerful is Travis Barker's ability to blow your mind with a fill rolling into that big finale... I can already hear the haters "Overrated! Overrated!") On the other hand, sometimes Bono being passionately flat is what gives U2 their cool factor.
Authentic - Like relatable lyrics, that mostly involves the individual's history. What has the artist/listener's ears been brought up with? What sounds/methods have been retired and what is trending? (Maybe a dancy trap beat wasn't prescribed in the original Alicia Keys' version but definitely authentic in the Jay-Z remix.)
Lyric Party:
"Concrete Jungle where dreams are made of" - Alicia KeysĀ
Cool - what even is cool? If you follow the pop formula/structure are you no longer cool? If you have a low-fi mix/master, are you automatically cool? That's all subjective but trends definitely play a big roll. And these days; what even is mainstream?
Ā Ā I'd say Nickelback is mainstream. However, a lot of people hate Nickelback simply because it's cool to hate Nickelback. Nickelback is not my cup of tea, but they definitely cover all those bases in my opening paragraph pretty well. They've mastered being commercial and there's a few Nickleback choruses that I can probably sing word-for-word. It's just odd to me when bands that sound like Nickelback hate Nickelback. That's like when bands that sounded like Blink 182 hated Blink 182. I will go on to argue that these commercial bands didn't necessarily sell out, they just got better (to the general public). So don't hate! Especially if you're hating for your own pride. Like what you like. Leave pretension to the hipsters.
Ā Ā I guess the main thing that inspired me to write this was from playing my very first sold out show in Columbus, OH at A&R bar. Obviously, I had very little to do with the 200+ people crammed into this awesome venue. I opened the show for 30 minutes and maybe 35 of the 150 people in the room (at 7:30) were there to see me. The other bands sold out of all their tickets and brought the big awesome crowd. The band that played after me pulled out a Nickelback cover; "Animals". Lyric Video Party!!!
youtube
Ā Ā I genuinely thought they were joking at first! Then they played through the whole thing and everyone was singing along. I was slightly confused. Here I was as part of the first sold out show of my life, in the most thriving music scene in North America, and everyone was getting down to some Nickelback...
Ā Ā It got me thinking. Maybe it isn't so much that Nickelback isn't cool, maybe ROCK MUSIC in general is no longer cool - everywhere but Columbus, OH!!! Nickelback is the biggest rock band of our time and it is cool to hate them. What is cool then? Nicki Minaj?? Lane Del Re?? Steve Aoki?? Game of Thrones?? I'm sorry Nickelback haters but if I had to choose a night of Game of Thrones or a Nickelback concert you might just catch me sticking a foot above a stadium crowd singing along to "How you Remind Me".
LYRIC PARTY: "Look at this Photograph!!" - Nickelback
Ā Ā I've been to a Nickelback show and it was awesome! Bryan's actual cousin, Daniel Adair, is their current drummer and we went back in 2011 or something. It was an awesome show! I'd go again!
Ā Ā Then it got me thinking back to perception. Is Nickelback just not my cup of tea because of the subjective ingredients (lyrics, performance, vocal/tone style, commercial structure)? Probably. I do like how polished their production is. Maybe people check out my music and think the same thing so they don't bother to come see it live. Then when they accidentally see my live show they're giving me the ol' "I'm not generally into that genre of music but I loved your set! Keep it up!"Ā
LYRIC PARTY:"THIS IS HOW! YOU REMIND ME OF WHAT I REALLY AM!" - Relatable Nickelback lyrics :o
Ā Ā Anyway, there's another blog that mentions Nickelback a bunch... Guess I'm just really a closet Nickelback fan! Chad Kroeger, sign my band!
I haven't had much time to write this week with the tour being so busy. The inbox and calendar are owning my life almost more than my excessive gear.Ā
That that sold out show at A&R was awesome. I wish I could play for that many people every night. I did lights for Black Coffee's set, too. I learned their new album/setlist on my long drives. It's pretty solid. Check it out here:Ā
BLACK COFFEE's NEW ALBUM
Ā Ā I congratulated them and told them I enjoyed my many many listen-throughs and Ehab said something along the lines of "Thanks! I know, it's not really with the contemporary/mainstream"...So that too kind of inspired this blog. So you can thank Ehab, Nickelback (they're totally not Nickelback-y, more like if Led Zeplin had a kid with The Darkness...)
How good is this by the way: VIDEO PARTY:
youtube
....if youāre into that go buy Black Coffeeās new record.
Then I drove home Sunday and had a week of booking and video editing while watching my Maple Leafs get my hopes up once again. Next season will be better! So will my next blog!!!
Hereās a long podcast to make up for my two weeks of nothing:

11 podcasts to listen to if you want to laugh your ass off
Life is hard. The news is stressful. And sometimes you just need a break from *gestures broadly at everything happening in the world right now.* .
Fortunately for anyone looking for a bit of escapism of the madness of everyday life, we have two words for you: comedy podcasts.
While there are heavy-hitter comedy shows like The Nerdist, Comedy Bang Bang, and WTF With Marc Maron, there are also a plethora of other podcasts that will help you digest what's happening in the world, expose the absurdity what's happening in the news and pop culture, and ultimately leave you in fits of laughter.
SEE ALSO: Here are 5 unrealistic things that happen in every romantic comedy
Some of these shows cover current events and some of them will give you (extremely dubious) advice, but no matter what, these 11 podcasts that will make you laugh your ass off.
1. My Dad Wrote A Porno
My Dad Wrote A Porno has a purely descriptive title: host Jaime Morton discovered that his dad had a secret hobby of writing erotica. So Morton did what any person would do: read it out loud and broadcast it to the world.
In addition to reading from his dad's book, Morton is joined by two friends āĀ James Cooper and Alice Levine āĀ who deconstruct what happens in each chapter, switching between hysterically laughing at some of the more absurd sections of the book to deadpan analysis of our protagonist Belinda Blumenthal and her adventures.
Tl;dr, it's very awkward and very NSFW podcast about what happens when you discover the sexual fantasy of your parents. How can you not laugh at that?!
(Author's note: This podcast literally had me cackling in the street while listening. Sorry to the Brooklynites that I scared with my sudden outbursts.)
Episode to start with: "The Job Interview"
2. Keep It
Crooked Media may have launched with a slew of politics shows, most notably Pod Save America, but if you're not listening to the network's pop culture show Keep It, you're truly missing out.
Hosted by journalist Ira Madison III, who is often joined by Kara Brown and Louis Virtel, the show is a weekly discussion podcast that breaks down what's happening in the entertainment world.
The title comes from Madison's Twitter catchphrase "keep it," which is the two-word clap back Madison uses to shut down the trash news that comes through his Twitter feed. But what makes the show especially good is the extreme amount of chemistry between the panelists as they provide pop culture analysis that's simultaneously thoughtful, brutal, and hilarious.
Episode to start with: They Cancel Roseannes, Don't They?
3. Baby-Sitters Club Club
Aaaaahhh remember the Baby-Sitters Club, that classic '80s and '90s children's book series about a group of babysitters who are just trying to earn a buck while also dealing with the challenges of growing up. Well, have you read those books again recently, as an adult?
Hosts Jack Sheppard and Tanner Greenring have, and wow, those books are nothing like you remember.Ā
Each week in The Baby-Sitters Club Club, Shepherd and Greenring read one of Ann M. Martin's classic novels, and deconstruct it. But what makes the show so hilarious are the many theories that Shepherd and Greenring generate about what's actually going on in the town of Stoneybrook. Is the Baby-Sitters Club marxist? And are the characters secretly in a parallel universe that's actually a beehive? Who knows, but after listening to this podcast, you won't be able to read The Baby-Sitters Club the same way again.
Episode to start with: Kristy's Great Idea
4. Judge John Hodgman
Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and you just need a little bit of advice. And that's where Judge John Hodgman comes in.
In the podcast, comedian John Hodgman (who you may know as PC from those early aughts Mac vs. PC commercials) arbitrates the petty grievances that crop of in our day to day lives.
Whether he's deciding if a wife should be freed of her lifelong agreement to let her husband order the toppings of the pizzas they order or whether it's okay to meditate at work, Hodgman delivers very serious rulings to very absurd debates that'll leave you in stitches.
Episode to start with: Pizza Parley
5. Lovett or Leave It
Sometimes the best way to deal with news is to laugh at it, and for anyone who wants to poke fun at current events, there's Lovett or Leave It. Each week, host Jon Lovett is joined by comedians, journalists, and more to "deal with whatever bullshit came flying over the transom in our broken, insane political nightmare factory."
Episodes are recorded live in front of an audience and include a mixture of discussions, pop quizzes, and games, which means you'll be just as informed as you are entertained.
Episode to start with: Rudy Giuliani, Esquire
6. The Read
You know those conversations with your best friend that get crazy because you hold absolutely nothing back. That's exactly what The Read is.
The show is a pop culture podcast hosted by friends Kid Fury and Crissle. Each episode is composed of a few segments: "black excellence" (where the hosts shout out good news that's happening to the black community), "hot topics" (which is a discussion of what's happening in the pop culture), "listener letters" (where Kid Fury and Crissle give advice to people who write in), and the titular segment "the read" (where the hosts each rant about something that's weighing on their hearts).
But what makes the podcast so funny is that Kid Fury and Crissle will drag literally anything and everything. Passionate and irreverent, listening to The Read feels like hanging out with your friends.
Ā Episode to start with: Beychella
7. How Did This Get Made
Have you ever watched a movie that's so bad that you asked yourself "how the hell is this even real?!" If so, you're not alone because that is the exact subject of How Did This Get Made.
Each week, actors Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas watch movies that are so bad they're amazing and talk about it. And you know that feeling you get when you watch an objectively bad movie and just spend the entire time making fun of it with your friends. That's exactly what this podcast is, for 189 episodes and counting.
Episode to start with: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
8. All Fantasy Everything
You've heard of fantasy football. Maybe even fantasy The Bachelor and fantasy RuPaul's Drag Race. But have you heard about a fantasy breakfast food draft? Or a fantasy "Mike" draft (you know, who's the best person named Mike).Ā
Enter All Fantasy Everything. As the name implies, the show makes a fantasy drafts out of, well, everything. Then, host Ian Karmel along with a rotating cast of guests debate each topic until a champion is crowned.
Episodes are ridiculous, unexpected, and sure to make you laugh.
Episode to start with: Fictional Detectives
9. 2 Dope Queens
If you've ever wanted to see a comedy show but don't have the time to go in person, we have three words for you: 2 Dope Queens.
The show is part standup set, part discussion podcast hosted by comedians Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams. In each episode the duo talk about everything from online dating to the tiny house trend, which means conversations are always fun and varied. Additionally, episodes are recorded live, giving each discussion a performative flair that'll make you feel like you're carrying around a comedy club in your pocket as you listen.Ā
Episode to start with: Sitting Too Close to Queen Latifah
10. Dear Hank and John
If you're a human on the internet, you probably know John Green and Hank Green, the brother duo that helped shape the YouTube world with their vlog series The Vlog Brothers. And then by launching VidCon. And then with John's hit novels The Fault In Our Stars, Turtles All The Way Down, Looking For Alaska, and more.
But did you know that the duo also has a podcast too? And it's freaking hilarious.
Dear Hank and John is an advice podcast where Hank and John attempt to answer your most absurd questions, like "what are the rules of doctor-patient small talk" and "what do I do with 23 plastic molds of my teeth." In addition those bigger advice segments, the show is chock-full of jokes hiding everywhere from their intro where they announce "the elephant in the room" to phrase of the week where each brother is challenged to sneak a phrase recommended by a listener into their conversation without the other brother noticing, which means whether you're a new listener or an old fan, you'll still find something fresh and new in each episode.
Episode to start with: Eleven Peas
11. Thirst Aid Kit
Listen, we all thirst. It's human. It's natural. And it's the topic of writer Bim Adewunmi and Nicole Perkins' show Thirst Aid Kit.Ā
Thirst Aid Kit is a weekly about your love, sex, and your favorite celebrity boo thangs. The podcast is unapologetically filthy, as the hosts talk about your crushes, read fan-fiction, and in general, share the thirst that we all know and feel.
Episode to start with: We Learned to Spell Jake Gyllenhaal

The History of Superhero Trading Cards
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article is part of our Collectorās Digest series powered by:
For over 80 years, trading cards have been an essential part of collectorsā lives. Whether baseball cards or Garbage Pail Kids, the card collecting bug bites early and often. This seems doubly true when it comes to cards inspired by the beloved heroes and villains of DC and Marvel Comics, who have been the subject of countless non-sport lines across the decades.
These companies (and their independent peers) have released comic book characters into the pop culture landscape who have impacted our lives in ways that cultural anthropologists are still scratching their heads trying to figure out. And so we wanted to present to you a history of superhero trading cards via the genreās most memorable offerings.
Just be warned that we canāt be held responsible for the desire that the following collectibles will stir deep within you.
1940 Superman Trading Cards
Price: $150 ā $9,000
Look up in the sky! Itās a bird! Itās a plane! Itāsā¦ one of the coolest and most collectible non-sport card lines ever made! Originally printed by the Philadelphia-based Gum Inc. company ā which subsequently was renamed as the Bowman Gum Company before being bought by Topps in the 1950s ā this was the first-ever line of Superman cards. The decades have seen many sets based on the Man of Steel (Toppsā Superman in the Jungle line from the late 1960s is also well worth your time), but this specific line is a souvenir of an era when Supes was the biggest comic sensation in the universe. Since these were released in an age when pop culture was considered ephemeral and disposable, they are rather difficult to find in an acceptable condition, thus the astronomical prices for individual cards in the line. If you somehow manage to compile a complete set, congratulations, for you are truly a Superman of collecting!

1966 Donruss Marvel Super Heroes
Price: $4.99 ā $175.00 per card
Released just as Marvelmania was truly getting off the ground, Donrussā 1966 set ā which appropriately consisted of 66 cards ā marked the first time that some of the House of Ideasā most iconic characters were included on trading cards. As such, the prices for individual cards fluctuate wildly, and itās best that you comparison shop various eBay sellers to get the best deal. What makes these cards stand out is the charmingly corny humor on display in many of the cards, as well as several entries that let you fill in the word balloons spoken by your favorite heroes. āNuff said? Probably not, as we could talk about how much fun this set is for daysā¦

Batman 1966 Topps Trading Cards
Price: $60 ā $250
As Marvel was just getting their feet wet in the trading card game, DC had already established themselves as the industry leader. Itās especially easy to understand why when you glimpse the Topps companyās tie-in line for the Batman TV show. Each card features stunning paintings from Topps legend Norman Saunders (the artist who also worked on iconic lines like Mars Attacks and Wacky Packages) featuring Batman and his rogues gallery of villains in action scenes that remain the purest example of how creative trading cards can get. FYI: This set was re-released in 1989 in conjunction with the Batman movie (more on that in a minute) and prices for the reissued cards tend to be lower.

Marvel Comic Book Heroes Sticker Trading Cards
Price: $5 ā $8
Iron Man flies through the air asking if anyone has an oil can. Dracula makes jokes about doing the Hustle. The Human Torch advises against getting a sunburn. Yes friends, Toppsā 1976 line of stickers featuring Marvel heroes and villains is easily the goofiest entry on this list. And if you love dad jokes and horrific puns, the best.

Bubble Funnies
Price: $10 ā $30
Weāre flipping the script here for a second to clue you in on a line that may look like trading cards but isnāt exactly trading cards. Amurolās 1981 Bubble Funnies line was an assortment of baseball card-sized comics with pocket-sized adventures from The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Spider-Woman, Archie, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Because they were somewhat hard to find and the retail cost was more than the average wax pack, the line died after its initial six entries. Bummer.

Marvel Superheroes First Issue Covers Set
Price: $89 ā $170
Discussions of non-sport cards tend to focus on the major distributors like Topps, Fleer, Donruss, Skybox, and Upper Deck, which is a shame because sometimes sets released by independent vendors get lost in the shuffle. Case in point, this 1984 release from the Fantasy Trade Company which showcased the first issues of Marvelās most beloved comics. From Spider-Man to Werewolf by Night and everything in between, this series was packed with unforgettable covers on the front and trivia about their respective books on the back. This is a line that doesnāt have the popularity of its big league brethren, but it is unmatched in terms of its coolness cachet.

Batman Movie Trading Cards Set
Price: $12 ā $30
The two sets of cards based on Tim Burtonās 1989 Batman film are the most easily available entry in this overview. As common as these things were, they also were the entry point into the world of card collecting for a generation of fans. If youāre one of them, then these are nothing short of priceless.

1992 Skybox Marvel Masterpiece Set
Price: $39 ā $75
The mind boggles at what contemporary trading card collecting would be like without Skyboxās 1992 Marvel Masterpiece line. This set gave a cool factor to non-sport cards that hadnāt previously existed, making long-time hobbyists feel vindicated and new fans eager to get each of the lineās 100 cards. The future began here, and we havenāt looked back since.

1995 Fleer Marvel Metal Inaugural Card Set
Price: $200 ā $350
Along with the various Skybox lines, the so-called Marvel Metal card sets from the Philadelphia-based Fleer Company helped usher in the comics-related trading card boom of the 1990s. These highly coveted collectibles werenāt made of adamantium, but for fans it was close enough. The talent involved in the production of the inaugural 138-card set included George Perez, Jim Lee, and Adam Kubert, adding an air of authenticity to the proceedings. Looking back at the iconic debut series of Marvel Metal cards nowadays offers a welcome flashback to the frenetic fun of collecting in the 1990s.

Upper Deck Marvel Ages Lenticular Puzzle Spider-Man Cards
Price: $150 ā $300
This four-card set from Upper Deckās current Marvel Ages set recreates one of Spideyās darkest moments by recreating a legendary scene from The Amazing Spider-Man #50 through four interconnecting lenticular 3-D cards. As you can see, these are absolutely stunning. More than that though, they illustrate how far the card collecting hobby has come over the last 80 years. Despite the technological advances that differentiate them from the earlier entries on this list, these cards share the same purpose as their bell-and-whistle-less counterparts ā to dazzle anyone who holds them in their hands.

Pregnancy week by week 1 to 12
1st trimesterĀ Ā Ā Ā Pregnancy week by week 1 to 12
Pregnancy week by week 1 to 12 #Week 1 Baby length 0 Baby weight 0 Because your egg can live for only 24 hours after ovulation, timing is of utmost importance to ensure that Conception occurs. Even though there are many eggs inside a womanās ovaries, usually only one is released at the time of Ovulation. Ovulation is the exciting time in your body .you may notice slight cramping in the abdomen around ovulation. Ā Ā # Week 2 Baby length 0 Baby weight 0 Ā Youāre DNA and that of the biological father form a new cell called a 'zygote'. Beginning a process of rapid growth, the zygote divides and keeps on dividing to form a solid mass of cells called the morula. The morula doubles in size about every 12 hours. You donāt know it yet, but youāre pregnant. All that hard work has finally paid off. .The hormone that shows up in your blood and urine and serves as a sign of pregnancy. Itās that wonderful substance that turns the line positive on your home pregnancy test. everything that goes into your body will reach your developing baby. # week 3 Baby length 0 Baby weight 0 The cells are continuing to divide to form the embryo rapidly. Your pregnancy can be measured in 'Fetal age' or 'Gestational age.' Because pregnancy symptoms are very similar to pre-menstrual symptoms, you may think you're about to get your period. The breast tenderness and mild cramps that some women usually experience may still occur. It's possible that you even spot a little bit during implantation, but this is normal. Your heart may be beating up to 15 times more per minute, which is also normal as your heart is trying to get used to pumping the extra blood. For those carrying twins, the level of hCG may be higher than with one baby, sometimes an early indicator of a twin pregnancy. Get proper rest, keep taking your prenatal vitamins and be as healthy as you can. Once you've had a positive pregnancy test, either at home or the doctor's office, you're probably ready to shout to the world 'I'm pregnant! Ā #week 4 Baby length 2mm Baby weight 0 . The placenta has started to develop, and three distinct layers of cells form in the embryo. The first layer will form the digestive system, liver and lungs of your baby; the second will form the heart, muscles, kidneys, reproductive organs and bones of your baby; and, the third will form their nervous system, hair, skin and eyes. Two major processes occur during this week. Firstly, the neural tube, which is the precursor to your babyās brain and spinal cord, forms from the ectoderm layer. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); Folic acid is vital in this process, and this is why it is often recommended as a supplement. It is the time that you begin to have morning sickness. Your uterus is growing and pressing on your bladder and sending you to the bathroom to pee more often. The tenderness in your breasts is increasing as the milk glands that will feed your baby are multiplying. Cravings are probably the most joked about side effect of pregnancy. Itās normal for mom-to-be to experience sudden urges for specific, and sometimes unusual, foods. Ā #week 5 Baby length 6mm Baby weight 0.2gm Believe it or not, although it is too early to hear, the heart starts beating on or around day 21 after conception (day 35 of pregnancy). Your baby's spinal cord is beginning to form, with the neural tube starting to close. On a week 5Ā baby is now shaped like a tadpole, a bump at one end will develop into the head, and the tail will form the trunk. Baby is now growing a thin layer of skin to cover everything up. Women who experience morning sickness will lose a bit of weight in the first trimester. However, some others may have gained a pound or two by this point in their pregnancy. If you have symptoms of heartburn or nausea, avoid greasy and fatty foods. Ā #week 6 Baby length 1.3mm Baby weight 0.5gm The brain is developing particularly fast, making your baby's head much larger in proportion to the rest of the body. As the brain and head continue to build, so do the eyes and ears, the inner ear takes shape, and the eyelids begin to develop. Your baby's kidneys are starting the development. Your baby's eyes are visible and changing quickly; we can't see it yet, but the color of your baby's eyes is determined at the moment the sperm fertilized your egg.the digestive system is beginning to link up with the mouth. You may be noticing that your jeans are getting too tight by now. It is entirely normal as your body is preparing and making room for your baby or babies. Ā #week 7 Baby length 1.6cm Baby weight 1gm Your little one is starting to look like a baby. Your babyās arms and legs continue to develop. Although the lungs are developing, your baby wonāt take the first breath until after being born. The placenta, which is still forming alongside your baby, will provide all the oxygen your baby requires until then. You may feel like a teenager again as a few pimples may start popping up ā but this is a normal reaction to increased hormones Ā #week 8 Baby length 2.3cm Baby weight 2gmĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The heart of baby, which was previously only two-chambered, has now developed into a tiny perfect replica of a fully grown adult heart with four chambers working to pump the blood around the body. The bones of your baby's arms and legs will start to firm up, and the trunk will straighten. Take it easy on the vitamin A as too much can be harmful to your baby, so stay away from liver and fish liver oils. Try to avoid sugary snacks during the day as they will only give you a temporary energy boost, and you'll end up feeling even more tired. Your meat has to be cooked properlyā that means there should be no pink meat inside. Remember, whatever you put into your mouth is going to reach the baby via the umbilical cord. Ā # Week 9 Baby length 3.1cm Baby weight 4gm The kidneys, liver, brain, and lungs are all beginning to function, and the heart is almost fully developed. Your baby's head is now half the size of the body, and that little tail that made him or she resembles a tadpole is starting to disappear. Depending on the position of the baby, it may not be until week 14 before the heartbeat can be heard. Depending on the position of the baby, it may not be until week 14 before the heartbeat can be heard. Your little one will notice the onions and garlic in your diet. By the time you're 13 to 15 weeks pregnant, your baby's taste buds have fully developed, and he or she can start sampling different flavors from your diet. Ā # Week 10 Baby length 4.1cmĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Baby weight 7gm Your baby is now busy moving around inside your uterus. This week is the beginning of three weeks when your baby will double in length. Your baby looks more human now than ever before with a visible neck, straighter back, and thicker skin. The head is almost as big as the rest of your babyās body. With the extra blood volume, you may notice that you feel warmer and even thirstier. Your hair becomes luscious, and nails become more energetic and are less likely to break.Ā Ā # week 11 Baby length 5.4cm Baby weight 14gmĀ The muscular system and nervous system are responding to each other, and your baby is now able to bend, stretch, kick, and even make faces. The sex of your baby is becoming more pronounced, and the kidneys are now producing urine from the amniotic fluid that he or she ingests. You may notice some bloating, which is a result of hormonal changes causing your digestive system to slow down. This is the time when morning sickness starts to decrease, although, for some women, it lasts a few weeks longer. Shark, swordfish, and marlin should be avoided due to their high mercury content. Tuna should only be consumed minimally, no more than once a week. This is because mercury can damage your babyās nervous system possibly through their pregnancy. Ā # Week 12Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Baby length 7.4cm Baby weight 23gm Your baby is growing. Baby now can open and close. It's just a matter of time before the thumb and mouth meet. All the organs of your baby's digestive system are developing into their final shapes including the stomach, liver, pancreas and intestines. You may also begin to notice stretch marks on your breasts, abdomen and lower back. The degree to which stretch marks develop will depend on your skin's elasticity.

Benam perselisihan politik. - Yahaya Ismail.
Inilah kerajaan kudeta, saham jatuh, nilai mata wang jatuh, harga sawit jatuh, pelabur asing lari... Makin pelik lah Kerajaan baru ni,, nampaknya depa ni masih pro kapitalis.. Patut lah Presiden Mahkamah Timbangtara MATE, Tan Sri Profesor Muslim Yacob kata Menteri Kewangan baru ni tak pernah tolong orang Melayu.. - Ipohmali
After 10 Deaths Clueless Health Minister Declared SignsĀ Of A Plateau In Covid-19 Cases...
There are reasons why the world, with the exception of Singapore and Indonesia, has refused to recognise the backdoor government of Muhyiddin Yassin. Besides not democratically elected by the people through the ballot box, a government seized using coup normally consists of not only a corrupt regime, but also incredible dumb leaders. Health Minister Dr Adham Baba is one classic example of a dumb leader in the Muhyiddin government. In less than a month since the backdoor Perikatan Nasional government snatched power from Pakatan Harapan government, people can see clearly the difference between Adham Baba and previous health minister ā Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. Adham Baba, a so-called doctor who obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Universiti Malaya in 1987, has become the epicentre of jokes when he appeared on a TV programme ā RTM Bicara Naratif ā on Thursday (March 19) night and lectured Malaysians on how to ākill Covid-19 coronavirusā. Yes, the health minister has found a way to kill the bloody virus. According to the genius doctor, the virus which has left a trail of destruction around the world is vulnerable to heat. Therefore, he advised people to drink warm water to āflushā virus down to the stomach and voila, the digestive acids will kill the Coronavirus. He said ā āThe virus will go down (the oesophagus) and when it reaches the stomach which has acids, the virus dies. Thatās how we eliminate the virus.ā The health minister, whose involvement in politics began in 1991 when he joined UMNO political party, talked as if his knowledge stopped at basic biology text books at secondary school (primary school if you study in Singapore) and never graduated. Based on his logic, the digestive acid appeared like Holy water that can kill all types of bacteria and virus. If that is true, human beings should not fall sick due to food poisoning or diarrhea simply because any types of virus, let alone bacteria, would have been eliminated once they reaches the stomach. Perhaps the health minister should suggest that a Coronavirus patient be turned upside down and better still, be shaken like cocktails to wash all internal organs with the powerful stomach acids.
Thereās a reason why when the novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (aka 2019-nCoV) was first reported by China on December 31, 2019, the case was identified as ārespiratory illnessā ā not ādigestive illnessā. Did Adham Baba study about basic body systems such as respiratory, digestive, circulatory, muscular, nervous and skeletal systems, which are covered in the primary school syllabus? Any primary students can tell you that flushing water down into your stomach only involves the digestive system, not respiratory system. Throat, nose, windpipe, chest and lungs are some of the organs of the respiratory system which the Covid-19 infiltrated and infected. Perhaps Dr Adham should also suggest flushing warm water from the nose all the way to other respiratory organs too. Chances are the half-baked Dr Adham Baba had probably received such tips from social media, which among other things also suggested that Coronavirus can be cured with cocaine and even by drinking bleach. Yes, Malaysians should thank God that the Muhyiddinās health ministry did not recommend drinking Clorox as a way to disinfect and sanitize the virus. Itās already a miracle that the health minister did not suggest eating truckloads of durian because the odor of the fruit stinks so much that it would keep the pathogen miles away. Itās also funny that the health minister did not suggest drinking beer, wine or liquor as a way to get the virus drunk and inactive. His claim was so silly that UK-based Malaysian trainee surgeon Dr Nur Amalina Che Bakri had to debunk it. But the silly idea of drinking water to protect one against Covid-19 was just the appetiser. The incompetency of the health minister started a day earlier when he proudly declared on March 19 that there were already signs of an improvement, or a āplateauā, in the number of Coronavirus cases. He shot his mouth off too early, obviously trying to gain some political brownie points. He saw the number of cases declining from 190, 125, 120 to 117 and thereafter to 110 as signs of a plateau because the curve has started to flatten. He said ā āEven though there is an increase in the number of new cases, the number has been around the same over the past four days. If it is still spreading, it (the curve) will show an increase, like in some countries in Europe, where it is still increasing.ā When the simpleton Health Minister Adham prematurely concluded that Malaysia was out of the woods on March 19, the country already registered its first 3 deaths. His toxic mouth saw a subsequent spike in Coronavirus cases when 130 (March 20) and 153 (March 21) cases were reported. On March 22, there were 123 cases, but the death toll has since jumped to 10 people.
As of Sunday (March 22), Malaysia has 1,306 Covid-19 cases, out of which 62%, or 820 cases involved members from the Sri Petaling Mosqueās āTablighā group, which held its religious gathering at Masjid Jamek from February 28 and March 1. The massive rally was attended by an estimated 16,000 people, of which about 14,500 were Malaysians while the rest were foreigners from around the region. Clearly, the health ministry had overlooked the fact that when 190 new cases popped on March 15, it was just the beginning. Even until today, the authorities have not managed to trace, let alone force all those religious fanatics involved in the āTablighā gathering to come forward so that they can be tested for the Coronavirus. Tons of people could have been infected since 3 weeks ago. The government also conveniently forgets that the number of cases actually depends on the number of testings or screenings. The more tests you carry out, the higher number of cases can be detected. Health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah admitted that the country can only carry out 3,500 testings a day now. In comparison, South Korea can screen up to 20,000 people a day. To make matters worse, when the clueless Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin declared a lockdown 6 days ago (March 16), the backdoor government had forgotten that such action would send people packing and traveling back to their respective hometown nationwide. The Higher Education Ministry then cleverly shut down all public and private universities, effectively chased all students out of campus. By the time the education ministry realised their mistake and made a U-turn, it was too late as tens of thousands of students were crowded at transportation hubs, waiting to catch their buses and trains to go back ākampung (hometown)ā. Had the Health Minister Adham Baba taken into consideration the sudden spread of Coronavirus from urban cities to rural area when he told all and sundry about his silly plateau? On the contrary, the country has yet to see the worst of the pandemic. Itās one thing that ordinary folks are frustrated without access to basic protection like affordable face masks or sanitizers. Itās another thing that the country is being run by a battalion of incompetent, corrupt and clueless leaders like Adham Baba. You can bet your last dollar that the lockdown will be extended after March 31. The supply chains are falling apart because Muhyddin government canāt differentiate between essential industries and its dependency on non-essential industries to ensure a smooth delivery system to the consumers. There will be suspicions, distrust and even chaos when food supply gets cut off because the backdoor government is incapable of handling a crisis of such magnitude. - FT
cheers.

Shard of light
Chapter 2 "Death for Life"
With cunning and smiling eyes, Lexi decided what kind of desire would be:
"This week you should make friends with him and visit to him at least once" - after finishing the conversation, she turned around and left for her desk.
I still stand with my jaw hanging in the corridor, and only the loud sound of the call brought me back to reality.
(Lesson)
I sat down at my desk, took out a sheet of paper, and wrote down the banal "how are you?" When I moved it to the guy, he simply crumpled the paper and threw it out, it is very surprising that, he got into the trash. So I didnāt try to do anything further.
(Turn)
I went to complain to Lexi about her Impossible desire. But she immediately turns the arrows on my indecision. For some time I felt bad at school. I thought this is because it is stuffy, because all windows were closed. In the lesson, my head began to hurt more, and I asked the teacher to let me go home. Teacher gave me a note and, handing it to the guard, they let me go. When I went outside, I wrote Lexi SMS so that she would not worry about me.
(sms)
"Lexi, I'll leave school sooner. I feel bad" Sheila.
"Alright, see you tomorrow, get well" - Lexi.
(End sms)
When I returned home, I felt a little better. Having prepared cocoa for myself at home, I covered myself with a plaid. Outside the window a little rain fell.
After a few hours at the compuctor, I nevertheless went to bed.
(Morning)
Someone began to shove me in the side, but in the end I fell out of bed. Guessing that this is my sister, I threw a malicious look at her
(ė āø ė). But this did not stop her.
"Wake up, Sheila, today my mother left home earlier, keep a sandwich, I'm running away!" my sister shouted and ran out of the room.
Having breakfast alone, I hastened to take a briefcase and for about 10 minutes I still thought what to wear.
It was strange on my part to say goodbye to the emptiness and after I closed the door, I went to school.
The school was empty. I was looking for classmates, but they weren't anywhere. When I went to the roof of the building.
I found someone, but he was wounded and bleeding. I quickly ran to him with questions:
"What happened? Where is everyone? What's wrong with you?" I screamed in tears, most likely from fear.
"Everyone is dead, only you are left" - he said.
"No, no, donāt say that, it cannot be! ..." - I fell to my knees and began to mutter meaninglessly.
"It's not too late, you can fix it, I will help you" he said. He began to bleed harder, because slowly approach me, thus making me went to the edge of the roof.
"What are you doing ?! Donāt get up, you can still be saved, donāt carry any nonsense!" - I shouted to him, but he looked at me with a smile, probably with the saddest smile in my life, and pushed me because of all him remaining strength.
I fell from the 3rd floor until I felt a sharp pain throughout my body, losing consciousness.
I so much wanted to return everything to their places so that everyone was alive.
I tried to get out of pitch darkness. I saw the light and realized that everything worked out for me.
"I managed!" - I shouted with delight, looking around, noticed that I was in my class with everyone, as if nothing had happened.
"I understand that you are solving the problem, but you should not do this with all the classroom ones" - the teacher said and turned sharply to me, throwing a serious look.
I began to digest the information. Why was everyone dead, why did that guy know what to do, why I didn't die, what happened at all?!
My brain will explode soon \ (* 'ļ¼Æ' *) /
(End of the lesson)
"And so, you have a week for joint homework, for those who donāt understand the topic, on Monday at class additional" -
the teacher repeated, staring at the book.
Let me guess, now Lexi will pester to me with her questions.
"Do you even know that you cannot sit down to me for the 1st week. Tell me why did you ignore me? Why did you sit down with him? Maybe I donāt know something and something happened over the summer?" -
Lexi smiled with a familiar face.
"Lexi, donāt joke like that, I already heard it from you" - On my face was mentally written "seriously?"
"No, I said this current right now" - Lexi looked at me with misunderstanding.
I told her not to pay attention to it and in the next lesson I began to make a plan - for salvation.
(Lesson)
Plan:
1 Get to school before the class disappears. To find out who is behind all this.
2 get rid of the criminal.
3 save everyone.
This was approximately my plan in general, and, following it, I will start by acquiring a key to school to get into it at night.
I thought I wonāt talk about this with Lexi yet. Itās better to keep it a secret.
(Turn)
"Hello, listener, do you know who has keys to the school is from?" - I asked.
"You're lucky that I know where they are, but why do you need it?" - answered the question to the question of Lexi.
"Yes, I just wondered how teachers get to school" - I said the first thing that occurred to me.
With my oddities, Lexi did not suspect anything.
"Sheila, you sometimes surprise me so much that over time I get used to it" - Lexi said with another serving of surprise - "the keys are in the teacher's desk."
I think they will not suspect me if I remain on duty in the classroom.
(Lesson)
"Today Ferra and Life have responsibilities in the classroom" - the teacher said, continuing: "who wants to be on duty"- before she could finish, I shouted from my desk:
"Teacher, I can be!" - I said.
"Well, then after the 7th lesson, you stay in the classroom, I give the keys to the classroom to you" - the teacher finished speaking and began her history lesson.
I solved one problem, now we need to interrogate someone.
I glanced at him sitting nearby. Knowing his character, I realized that here I have to decide everything by force.
(Turn)
"Hey, what's your name?" - asked his name a bit maliciously.
"Aren't you rude to start talking?" - He answered with even greater hatred to me.
"What is your name? I ask you again! " - I said louder. He approached me, and bent to the level of my eyes, asking further:
"Are you so interested?"
Of course I understand everything, but I did not want to lie to him, so I just shook my head in denial.
"Then I wonāt tell" - he turned away from me and headed off somewhere, but I managed to grab him by the sleeve and used the receiver, which worked without fail.
"Then I myself will come up with a nickname or a fictional story about you! You will become famous throughout the school in a couple of days."
I am quite sure that this is precisely what he is avoiding. A minute later he answered:
"Okay, my name is Mat, satisfied."
"Yes, but thatās not all, you are hiding something? Isnāt it?" - Added a few more questions, suddenly answer.
"I donāt know what you are talking about? And leave me alone, Iām busy" - Mat said with aggression and left.
As I expected, he left after the 2nd lesson.
(After school)
I stayed on duty in the classroom. As I expected, persuading a classmate to work for two in exchange for the homework done will not be difficult. But it was hard to get the key, even when he mopped the floor with his headphones.
I ran out of class and headed home to take the following actions.
When I entered the room I began to do the promised homework, and then went to bed.

10 Questions Tag
Answer the questions given, write ten new ones, and tag ten others!
I was tagged by @isnappedmypencil, who asked me:Ā
1. Do you have a writing playlist? If yes, how do you decide which songs go on it?
I kinda do, but I canāt listen to them when Iām sitting down to write; I can only handle white noise, if anything. I have some that I use for inspiration when Iām brainstorming or when a song gives me an idea, Iāll write down the idea (like who my not-exactly antagonist is and what her motivations/methods are) and what the song is (likeĀ āCastleā by Halsey). Ā
2. Who is one person who knows just as much about your WIPs and OCs as you do?
No one. The closest is my sister, but I havenāt told her everything because weāre both busy and I want there to be surprises for everyone. Plus, I change stuff a lot.
3. Do you, like many writers, carry around a small notepad and pen or something similar to write in while on the go?
I do, but itās just in case my phone or other recording devices fail me (which happened when I was interviewing someone for some primary research for my wip).
4. Whatās a particularly funny line that youāre proud of?
Okay, so context,Ā ācause thatās the only way this line works: I canāt speak for other states or countries, but where Iām from, place-names arenāt always phonetic or they are in the worst ways. Itās usually the former. Alice is a traveling neurosurgeon from Oxford, UK and is settling in with Sloane in Leicester, ID (fictional, btw). So, Sloane and Alice are visiting Sloaneās other friend, Lynne who is a radio broadcaster, who teaches radio, and runs a podcast, and outside her studio is where the beginning to my funny line begins:Ā
[...]āWhatever her students want to do, some local announcements. Her podcastāLeicester Castingāis also about local stuff, but more about the spooky and weird.ā
āConspiracy theories? Cryptids?ā Alice asked.
āYeah, stuff like that,ā Sloane smiled and started down the steps, Chatter at the lead once more.Ā
āI was joking,ā Alice said and followed.Ā
āYou did say youāve never been anywhere so small, right?ā Sloane smirked over her shoulder, then turned back, watching her footing around her kitty. āIāve been told Idahoās the kind of place that, if something strange happened, it would happen here, and that would be about right.ā
Alice was digesting this.
āWhy is it called āLexter Castingā?ā She asked while Sloane got to the landing and rounded the corner for the next flight of stairs.
āItās like a thing about fly fishing. You know, ācasting a line.ā That kind of thing.ā
They continued talking while they took the stairs slowly, even Chatter did, while she was still a few steps ahead.
āOkay, I mean,ā Alice said, floundering, āwhy āLexterā?ā
āItās, um, local? I told you that.ā
āYes, but,ā Alice was becoming frustrated, āwho is Lexter? Or what is it?ā
Sloane stopped in the middle of the second stair from the bottom, Alice bumped into her. Sloane turned around and Alice, pausing before she was likely about to apologize, eyed the smile crawling over her friendās face.
āThatās the name,ā she said, amusement inching up her voice. āOf the town. That weāre in.ā
Alice was quiet and Sloane turned back around, going down the final flight. She didnāt turn when Alice gasped and hurried footsteps almost had her falling again when Alice rammed into her back with more purpose. Sloane laughed while she caught her balance, then went back to gritting her teeth.Ā
Alice propped her back up, practically pinned her awkwardly against the wall and railing. Aliceās eyes narrowed down at Sloane and her clamped-down grin.
āItās pronounced,ā Alice said slowly, lowly, each word scraped under and over her teeth, āāLeicester.āā
Sloane knew that. She had read it in the numerous books she stocked and sold about hauntings, witches, vampires, and faerie all in the UK, about Black Annie in Leicester, in the East Midlands of England.Ā
Sloane quirked her head and dropped her smile into a pout.Ā
āWhoās Lester?āĀ
5. If you could insert yourself into any scene in your story, which scene and why?
Iād put myself in the scene with theĀ āhost witchā whoās being drained by the witch hunters (oh, thereās back story to what sheās hosting), and free her. I hate myself for doing this, but Iām setting up some nefarious antagonists.Ā
6. If you could cross your story over with another storyās universe, would you? Which one?
Sure. Iād do the Discworld SeriesĀ by Terry Pratchett. I think itād be fun and itās a different sort of fantasy and sci-fi representation than Iām doing.Ā
7. Explaining your story to someone who asks about it: Keep it short or monologue for days.
I could monologue, easy. I can elevator pitch it, sure, but itās not as fun. Depends on how much I like the person asking.
8. Have you ever imagined your first interview about your book? Do you ever āpracticeā answering interview questions to yourself?
Sometimes. I know that Iād have fun and be a real trial for the interviewer.
9. One of your favorite writers wants to beta read your WIP. Who would you like it to be?
Neil Gaiman or Emma Bull.
10. How do you imagine the cover art of your book to look?
I really donāt know. Something minimalist.
~
Alrighty, my writer-type questions:
Whatās your writing method?
Whatās the worst bit of writing advice you ever gotten and why?
What gif sums up your WIP (I saw this one in another tag game and I really like it, so itās mine now)?
What tea blend would you make for one of your side-characters (a la adagio)?
What sparks your imagination?
Whatās something you hate yourself for doing to your characters, but was absolutely necessary?Ā
Your antagonist has a sudden craving, what is it?
How do you feel about fanfiction writing?
How do you deal with timelines in your writing?
If you and another writer, anyone, were piloting a jaeger, who would your co-pilot be and what did you name your jaeger?Ā
And, tagging: @brynwrites, @catandwrite, @writingshare, @angewrites, @crazybunchwriter, @goatscantwrite, @eggletine, and anyone else who also thinks my and @isnappedmypencilās questions are too cool to pass up not answering. Tag me back if you do, since Iām nosy.Ā

ICEMAN #5 REVIEW **SPOILERS**
Writer: Sina Grace Artists: Alessandro Vitti and Rachelle Rosenberg Letterer: VCās Joe Sabino Cover Artists: Marco D'Alfonso NCBD: 9/6/17 Publisher: @marvelentertainment Review by: Rob Carey Resuming immediately after the last issue in which Bobby told his parents that he's gay, this story begins with a tense argument between Iceman and his family. Eavesdroppers include Kitty (who sees herself out of the situation) and Quentin and Idie (in a fun little Gen X tie-in). As the argument intensifies, danger arrives on campus. Juggernaut has come to the mansion in Central Park to seek revenge against the X-Men Blue team after the events of their premier issue, unaware that those characters are actually based in Madripoor. Bobby insists on dealing with Juggernaut solo, to take the opportunity to evade the conversation with his parents and release some energy. While he fights with Juggs, Bobby's parents decide to bolt. But Kitty stops them and shares Iceman's letter he had drafted for them After the battle (Iceman wins, of course), Bobby returns to the mansion to find his father on the grounds, holding the letter. After Bobby explains his most vulnerable feelings, Mr. Drake confirms that he still loves his son before departing.
Let's be clear right up front: this is not an easy assignment for a comic book writer. The assignment here is to write a modern coming out story set in a world of, at times, hyper-masculine, ridiculously costumed superheroes in a manner that is both honest to the writer, relatable to gay readers (particularly gay youth), and easily digestible for the pop masses. It's also, perhaps, the first such story that tells this precise plot to this level of detail in X-Men continuity; though there are certainly other LGBTQ characters, I don't recall reading about Northstar's coming out to his parents. Furthermore, X-Men is a long-form literary continuity that has spent decades addressing gay metaphors (hating people for they way their born, institutional stigmatization, the Legacy Virus, etc.) and has spent just as much time accumulating a large and loyal LGBTQ fan base. This was a hard issue to write. But I'm afraid I can't say that Sina Grace fully delivered. As has been a consistent problem with this series, the dialogue is horrendous (see "harshmellow" last issue and "brb" in this issue). Iceman is an adult character who has been holding his sexuality secret from his parents his entire life. His father is emotionless, and his mother is emotionally evasive. And when they drop by for a surprise visit, at the unfortunate time while Iceman is drafting his coming out letter to them, it's totally believable that he would blurt out "I'm gay" to them. That's realistic. What's not realistic is everything that follows in that conversation. Iceman's second sentence is that he's "dude for dude." And right there, the awful dialogue kills the scene. Even though the rest of the confrontation is relatively relatable, you can't read past "dude for dude" without expecting to come across more garbage dialogue, just as we've seen time and time again in this series, which takes away from the seriousness of the matter and blocks a reader from connecting to the material. That's a genuine failure of writing.Ā On the other hand, the letter Bobby writes to his parents is touching and lovely, proving that Sina Grace doesn't have to write Iceman with such terrible dialogue. He could speak like a normal person if he wanted to; if Bobby can write better words, he can speak better words. And most importantly, the final scene with Bobby and his father might be the best X-writing we've seen all year. Bobby tells his dad that, among other things, his omega-potential powers mean that he can now transform into water vapor, and he says: "I want to disappear sometimes. Leave my skin, forget my problems in a big way, and just be nothing - even for a moment. I think about being nothing." Exquisite, beautiful, and sincerely realistic depiction of what some gay people may experience as they come to terms with themselves. But does one well-written scene make up for five issues of disappointment and sales in free-fall? And what happens next issue when Bobby is back to horrendously unfunny dad jokes and the most inhuman dialogue ever seen in print?Ā Elsewhere, this book had further problems. The fight with Juggernaut, which consumes 50% of this issue, was boring and silly. A total throwaway side mission. The art here, especially the depictions of Bobby's parents, continues to be harsh. And Kitty really needs to remove herself from this series entirely. But those aren't the reasons why people will read this issue. They'll read it because this is Iceman's real coming out story. Unfortunately, despite the final scene, the issue as a whole misses the mark. It's a deeply flawed installment for a deeply flawed series.Ā
