I legit didn't realise the date so we're going to pretend this is the first of December and move along. November was a crazy month from about the 5th onwards (takes a deep breath) but I hope my American friends here are doing okay and that you will be safe and treated well for the years ahead - the impact I can't even begin to process right now, but I really hope everyone is doing alright.
I read three five star books in November and I did only read thirteen this month as I hit that goodread goals and just slumped a bit, but these three books are pretty incredible in my opinion and well worth checking out (or even treating yourself to over Christmas) - one is a graphic novel, one is a novella and one manga.
The Girl From The Other Side Vol. 12 by Nagabe - I can't lie to you, the ending of this series was a little disappointing, however volume twelve of this series is a collection of short stories or vignettes of life between the chapters between the characters of Teacher and Shiva. I really loved this collection and I like to think of this as the real ending to the series so as not to feel so annoyed about it. Beautiful illustrations, adorable storytelling and bringing to life characters that shone throughout the series, I loved this volume.
Swim Team by Johnnie Christmas - Does anyone else follow Meet Me In The Media Center on Tiktok? This graphic novel is regularly in the videos as popular within the library and it's no surprise why. The story of a girl learning to swim and then go on to the swim team, this graphic novel is one of learning and enduring and patience that makes for such an incredible read. The history lesson combined with a beautiful narrative of the strength to do hard things is incredibly done here and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Orbital by Samantha Harvey - How in so few pages Samantha Harvey writes so beautifully the perspectives of six astronauts as they live on the ISS and the feeling of living in space is remarkable. Winner of this year's Booker Prize, Orbital is a slice of brilliance and well worth picking up. In over a hundred pages, this book gives you so much emotional and powerful visuals that make it a breathtaking read - just incredible, I'd buy it for anyone who says novellas don't have enough pages to tell a story, as this is perfection.
What did you read in November? Did you get any five star reads? I'd love to know!

Out this week: Gamerville (Harper Alley, $15.99):
Johnnie Christmas is back with a new graphic novel about a kid who qualifies for a video game championship, only to have his parents send him to Camp Reset, a video game-less wasteland of fresh air and sunshine.
See what else is coming to a comic shop near you this week.

Max Lightning is howling at the moon—he’s finally qualified for Gamerville, a championship where players compete to be top dog in the multiplayer video game Lone Wolf of Calamity Bay. But his dreams of domination are doomed when his parents send him to Camp Reset. Gone are the long nights of downing energy drinks and getting copious amounts of screen time. They’ve been replaced with fresh air and…

What are they reading this summer? ☀️📚🤓👀
How will they know that these books are available for them to read if they are BARELY promoted at stores and at school?
