“A thousand pardons, my dear…”
I keep forgetting to post this here, but here you go. I also definitely need to post more stuff I animated here more often.
This was part of an animation intensive I took on hosted by Disney/Bluth legend, John Pomeroy. For those who aren’t aware, John opened an online school called “Pomeroy’s Art Academy” and every season or so, he would do an animation intensive (I actually went to a few of them over the past few years!), and this one was for ‘Performance Animation’. There’s another one from this intensive that I’m still working one that I hope to finish soon, but I got finish this one with Jenner from “Secret of Nimh”.
This was a pretty fun and challenging exercise on animating a previously established character from animation. This was one particular piece I was very proud of, and I was pleasantly surprised that John gave me the approval to use a Bluth character that he animated.
I completed this last year just as the new year was about to get started if you were wondering.

I just had to turn this John Pomeroy commissioned "Dragon's Lair" drawing into a Christmas card parody. It's sort of a "Game Over/Bad Ending" inspired concept where the hero fails in his quest and the wicked wizard ends up getting his own "Happily Ever After" ending. At least this unlikely couple is making the most of it, and probably mailing these out to all the minions who helped make this possible.

👩🏾‍🦱🐸 Three years ago, I had done a drawing of Princess Tiana in the coils of a snake. I had come across a rough pencil test on animator John Pomeroy’s Instagram page. It was a rough animation test for the Disney World interactive attraction “Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom”. The game revolves around Merlin from “The Sword in the Stone” recruiting park guests as apprentices to battle Hades from “Hercules” and other Disney villains. In the game, Tiana gets kidnapped by Dr. Facilier and is wrapped in the coils of a menacing snake. In the end, she is freed by any park guest participating in the game. 🐍✨

from johnpomeroyart insta:
"Here is the final cut. Both Glen Keane & I were disappointed that they went with [covering John Smith with a shirt]. We felt that him not wearing his shirt was allegorical to him shedding his “civilized” preconceptions of a native world. Oh well, it is a collaborative art form." x
"A shirtless “JOHN SMITH” & an impending kiss with the title character “POCAHONTAS” made the Disney executives a little nervous. Though it was storyboard'ed with his shirt off, once I finished animating this scene with Glen Keane (unfortunately Glen’s Pocahontas level isn’t pictured in this pencil test) they realized that it might be too sensual for the “family” audience, so they had me cover him. You can still feel the passion in Mel Gibson’s vocal performance." x

Despite acknowledging how great and talented the new artists are at Disney, they just can't do animation acting like this anymore
