#John Constantine in the back: this is a normal Tuesday

In some of the prompts that I read. Danny gets summoned in his true form, wether it being the Ghost king or something else.
BUT here’s the thing, Danny is considered to be a BABY ghost.
So if someone were to summon him, they would get this random ass ghost baby who doesn’t know any better and can’t do anything you want UNTIL 5 DAYS pass before he’s back to normal.
And if said ghost baby decides that he doesn’t like your VIBES leaves and if he does he becomes your problem.
So imagine that you’re John Constantine and you hear about this new Ghost King and wanting to assess if he’s going to be a problem/make a new connection.
John: this seems like a good cause *summons Danny*
Danny, as a baby with a crown on his head, sitting in the middle of the circle and looks at John and smiles: “Ah”
*an hour later*
John, looking worse then before with Danny in a sling around his body who had finally decided to sleep, decides to summon Fright Knight to see what the heck is going on: *chanting words as loudly and as quietly as he can*
Fright Knight, who has been teaching Ellie how to knight, feels the summoning and goes: this will be a great learning experience for you
Ellie, who decided to take a break from traveling and become a knight in training, goes: yeah okay
But here’s the thing, the same thing that happened to Danny happens to Ellie. And the only warning John got from Ellie was “eh” before she starts screaming her head off.
An hour later Deadman finds Constantine with two screaming babies in his arms and a freaking THERMOS in the middle of a summoning circle with two sticky notes and one of them is glowing.
Normal one: NO
Glowing one: “Open at your own risk” - clockwork
Master List
#dc x dc#deadman being the good co-worker he is did NOT gossip to the other JLD members#he totally did#JLD starts pestering John about the babies#John against his better judgment summons them again#JLD: aw what cute little ghosts#babies Ellie and Danny decides to hit them with a thormos just because#John Constantine in the back: this is a normal Tuesday#yes Dan is in the thermos#babies have decided that every time they are summoned they go straight to John#doesn’t matter if they are in a dangerous situation or not#if they feel John Constantine’s presence they go to John#even the thermos goes to John#nobody knows how and they don’t want to know#it just appears next to him#the JLD has confirmed that John has baby stuff stored everywhere and anywhere#Billy is just happy that there are people out there like him#it doesn’t matter if they are dead Billy is just happy that he is not alone

The more I learn about John Constantine? The more I am certain you COULD just... dump Danny on him.
Like... literally.
Full on, sack of unconscious potatoes, "here ya go, deal with it, here's an unconscious royal teenager!", Dumped in his arms/lap at some shitty hole in the wall bar, by Suspicious Supernatural Forces, DUMPED on him. Like? Yep. It's a Tuesday. Guess he's NOT getting to finish this beer.
And you know what?
Knowing the crowd Danny runs with? They'd at least... SORTA try and explain what's happening? Instead of play the fun ol "HOT POTATO! Think fast, Constantine! Figure it out!" And run shpeal that he normally deals with. Thoughtful, really.
Don't get him wrong. It's still BULLSHIT. But at least he has a vague idea of WHY he's holding an unconscious, heavily bleeding, half-divine-but-not-really half human, teenager.
Fuckers left a few sticky notes.
THANKS.
He just LOVES patching up actively radioactive wounds while trying to translate... what is this? Mesopotamian? Who writes out their emojis in Mesopotamian?! "Smiling face emotional picture" my ASS. Still...
Kid in way over their head, hunted by damn never everyone for trying to do the right thing, AND grappling with their recent lose of a decent chunk of their own humanity? Oh and now he's KING of a whole spankin new Realm!
Fuck "Realms". Nothing ever good comes out of "Realms".
And APPARENTLY? His VIP returning customers spot under the Bus has been reserved! Because he's the kid's "Gaurdian". Why? So the nice Goverment stooges in suits will come knocking on HIS door first, of course.
......he'd be more pissed about that one if he wasn't REAL interested in what those bastards had to say for themselves. Meddling with forces they shouldn't be touching. Provoking God only knows what. He fucking KNEW those storms weren't natural.
Just? John getting handed a Suspect Youth. Press X for doubt and Sus. Okay... then give him back. No! Fuck you, says local Laughing Magician, I don't trust you EITHER.
Danny wakes up to the... VERY? Ngl? Intense(tm) stare down of... holy shit, are you an Actual Angel? (Yes. He is. Better hope you're not secretly evil or he's gonna bring The Smiting) Then the world's ACTUAL greatest Detective, who is a chimpanzee, offers him expertly made tea and the cheap take-out John brought with him.
He is in Space.
It's still not the weirdest morning he's ever had. But it's getting there.

As someone who got quite obsessed with John Constantine in comics quite early on (I’m talking Swamp Thing early on) and knowing Neil Gaiman has written him, and Neil Gaiman writing Aziraphale and Crowley - I do occasionally wonder what would happen if they met?
I mean, Constantine hangs around dodgy London pubs - bound to bump into Crowley - both recognises the other for what they are - spend an uproarious evening drinking together - and then carefully avoid each other forever, neither wanting to get in each others way or draw the attention of Satan (who pays attention to Constantine)
Constantine also knows and searches out rare books of magic and lore - he’s bound to have visited Aziraphale’s bookshop - but once looked at Aziraphale properly and knows that is not someone you mess with.
When the end of the world came, he called Crowley - seemed like his sort of thing - only to get Crowley screaming at him over the phone ‘yes I know! I’m sorting it - get out the road! Yes I know it’s on fire - I’m sorting it out now but you might want to think about what deal you can make with Satan, yeah?’
He called Aziraphale but didn’t get an answer. Constantine decided to go the pub and get royally pissed.
The next morning - it’s all back to normal - and he knows something happened, he knows the world almost ended, but to be fair that’s Tuesday for him. But he decides to get out of London for a while. He’s heard talk of a weird cereal convention in in America and he feels this is worth checking out….

Avalance—Crossover[Wildcard]—”I followed the instructions on the box!”
note: so this is super late. thanks for your understanding @iamthecaptainofmanyships! as i told them I suffered from a pinched nerve in my neck and had to limit my time on desktop while recovering. it’s gotten better. still a bitch when I sneeze or have to lift something. I decided today was an OK day to sit down here and type this out before going back to mobile… hope you like!
Sara couldn’t believe it. She was fighting the undead. Constantine had warned her and her team that they’d opened up a door to something larger. Something more sinister. Demons, vampires… They were all real. And it was taking everything within her team to hold them back and fight. Basic hand-to-hand combat was essential. Sara didn’t have to worry about Ava or Mick when it came to that. Ray and Zari were getting better, with practice. Nate still struggled, but at least he was made of steel and could use his strength to get out of most situations. Wally used his speed to dust twenty vampires to Sara’s one. Which she was more than fine with.
“Watch your six!” shouted a female behind her. Sara whirled around and staked the vampire who had thought she’d be to distracted too notice. Sara met the eyes of a woman with long, curly brown hair and even darker eyes. “You good?”
“I’m good.”
“Awesome,” said the girl, giving her stake a twirl before moving to help Ray out.
They had traveled to Earth-31 where Constantine had said was the host of the most demonic activity. Of all the worlds it was the only one to have something called a hellmouth. Multiple ones even. That was, until, the summoning of Mallus reverberated through time and and space to create one on Earth-1. It was threatening to open and kill them all. Constantine had used his magic to find the Slayers, badass women who fought against things like this as if it were no big deal. A group had come over to help them, led by one of the originally called: Faith. Sara had been given the breakdown of the history of the Slayers by a man named Giles who had nearly put her to sleep. Instead, Faith and Buffy had taken over to give them the details. Buffy had worked out a group to come and fight with them. Not all, because apparently they had an apocalypse to deal with every Tuesday.
“Spirits of life, I invoke thee. Let the gloom of darkness part before you. Let the moonlight be made pale by your presence. Spirits of light, grant my wishes!”
Sara shielded her eyes as a witch named Willow cast a spell that looked to produce a light as bright as the sun. Many vampires screamed and disintegrated. The demons weren’t affected and instead did their best to target her. With no luck since she was protected by Slayers and Zari, who had taken a liking to the petite witch.
Sara was certain the feeling was mutual.
“Close ranks!” shouted Faith, blood now smattering the front of her shirt. Not her blood, no. This blood was blue and from one of the many demons that lay dead. “Don’t let any of them pass! They can’t expand to this Earth!”
“How are you doing?” asked Ava, who had chosen that time to step back-to-back with Sara. Despite the battle, the woman still had everything in place from her pressed suit to her pinned up hair.
“Just warming up,” said Sara with a grin, looking over her shoulder to her girlfriend. “You?”
“It’s going to take a lot more than this to get me winded,” said Ava with a grin.
“I seem to remember you getting pretty winded last night,” said Sara smugly.
“That’s different!”
Sara laughed before launching forward toward the next wave. It took some time, but soon everything that was evil was dead and dusted. The team of Slayers and Time Travelers shouted their glee for their victory. While the Slayers looked ready to fight some more, the others were doing their best to get their breath back. Willow didn’t waste time in starting the spell that would close the one and only hellmouth on Earth-1 for good. Of course, Constantine was keeping watch of her, making sure no mistakes were being made.
“You’re sure this will work, Love?”
“Of course. I followed the directions on the box!”
At his baffled look Faith busted out laughing and patted the man on his shoulder. “Relax, Bro, she’s just kidding. Don’t worry, she’s got this. Slayers! Fall back. We all know what happens when you close a hellmouth.”
“Wait, what happens?” asked Ray, making Faith look at him.
“Watch and find out,” she said with a wink.
The two different groups went back to the Waverider. Willow stayed behind to finish her spell. Faith didn’t seem too worried about it. Said it was normal. When Gideon announced at an earthquake was happening the Legends grew worried despite Faith assuring them that everything was five-by-five. When the white flash of light hit the area Willow had been at last, Sara almost ordered Gideon to rescue her. That was, until, as a large crater was formed a small ball of white light rose. It was Willow. Actually flying. Looking tired but victorious through the viewing window of the bridge.
“See?” said Faith, hand on her hip and a shit-eating grin on her face. “Told you she had it.”
.
.
.
“Well, that was different,” said Ava, hours later. The Slayers were back on their world. John had offered his card to call upon them all if they ever needed help. Faith had taken it, tucking it into the back pocket of her jeans with a wink. Sara knew trouble when she saw it, and Faith was a whole lot of trouble. Had she been single, though, she might have liked a little bit of trouble. However, Sara was quite happy where she was now, with her girlfriend Ava.
“But fun.”
“Pretty sure Zari was tempted to go with them,” said Ava.
“Oh, yeah, for sure.” Sara peeled off her ruined clothes and tossed them in the bin to be incinerated later. “Pretty sure Mick would’ve licked Faith’s boots if she’d asked him to. Or Ray…”
“Or you?” asked Ava with a raised brow. She then gave a soft laugh. “It’s okay, Sara, she was quite attractive.”
“Hmm… She was, wasn’t she…”
“Anyway,” said Ava, pulling off her own ruined clothes. “I think we should keep monitoring the situation. Hope that another hellmouth doesn’t open here. Willow said that since one was opened, that could lead a pathway to more. Especially since we’re still fighting things here. They could just as easily summon another one up.”
Sara did her best not to worry, especially since she now had her girlfriend naked in her room, but she couldn’t help it. First Mallus and now this. What other mystical and supernatural creatures could be lurking in the shadows waiting to come out and bite them in the ass?
“Hey,” said Ava, reaching up to press her finger between her furrowed brows. “Stop worrying.”
“You know I can’t.”
“Yeah, I know.” Ava sighed. “Me, too.”
“How about we go shower then work out a plan for next time? Maybe research a little on those defensive spells Willow left us?”
“But, Constantine warned us all about amateurs like us using those spells…”
“Doesn’t mean we can’t peek at them,” said Sara with a mischievous look on her face. She then stepped forward, pressing up against Ava, warm skin against warm skin as she wrapped her arms around her. “What do you say?”
“I say…” Ava make a disgusted look and stepped back when feeling something sticky on Sara’s back. “We go shower first and then discuss this when we don’t have bodily fluids and ashes on us.”
“Good plan.”

Sensor Sweep: Firefly, Lou Antonelli, Nintendo 1985, Robot Anime
T.V. (Medium.com): Every generation has their white whale of a concluded series. Baby boomers got hooked on Star Trek and made a big noise about it until they got movies, spinoff shows, more movies, more spinoff shows… Generation X kept the love of Star Wars alive until they got novels, video games, comics and, err, prequels. Milennials got Firefly. And three years later, Serenity, a movie that, while excellent, reminded us that the story worked better on TV. And then nothing.
Author Interview (Liberty Island): It was four months of Hell for the Sad Puppy finalists– from the announcement of the ballot in April until the WorldCon in August – and essentially a left-wing lynch mob. In the end, the whole fiasco can be considered useful because it made the secret manipulators come out of the closet. Larry Correia has been completely vindicated.
Fiction (Paperback Warrior): “East of Desolation” was Jack Higgins’ (real name: Henry Patterson) 22nd novel, published in 1968 by Berkley and then reprinted dozens of times using different cover art. The book arrived seven years prior to Higgins becoming a mega-bestseller and household name with his 1975 novel “The Eagle Has Landed”. While booming sales never supported the material, the 1960s produced some of Higgins’ finest literary work, evident with this ice-capped adventure starring brush pilot Joe Martin.
Westerns (Mostly Old Books): A taut and violent short western that finds young Jess Remsberg, consumed with avenging the rape and murder of his wife, scouting for an Army wagon train that finds itself outnumbered in a brutal cat-and-mouse battle with a band of merciless Apaches. The tension remains high as the brilliant Apache warlord Chata matches wits step for step with young and ambitious Army Lieutenant McAllister who is close friends with Jess.
Book Review (Pulp Fiction Reviews): New Pulp writer Derrick Ferguson is best known for his action packed adventures, be they the exploits of Dillon, Fortune McCall or Sebastian Red. All of these should already be on your reading list. But back in 1914, Ferguson wrote this truly amazing novella, “The Madness of Frankenstein” that is his homage to the great Hammer horror flicks of the 60s and 70s. Having finally picked up a copy, we were eager open its pages and discover what special grisly treats Mr. Ferguson had whipped up for his unsuspecting readers.
Cinema (Scifi Movie Page): Disney+ has officially arrived, with all the force and weight that Uncle Walt’s 600 lb. entertainment gorilla can muster. The Mouse plays for keeps, and the buzz around event releases like The Mandalorian and the various MCU projects immediately put their streaming service in the top tier alongside Netflix and Amazon.
But Disney’s strengths go beyond their acquisition (and undeniably strong shepherding) of hot IPs such as Marvel and Star Wars. Their library stretches back over 80 years, and a large amount of it is available for streaming.
D&D (Walker’s Retreat): You know you’ve got something worth watching when you get a comment like this: “Yes. Monotheism is the missing link that D&D needs for a medieval authentic feeling in your game. I use it. In addition it does one of two things. It either keeps SJWs away from your game, or it attracts them because they want to break your game or be an antichurch outsider. In those cases they always end up quitting because they don’t get what they want.”
Gaming (RMWC Reviews): The Nintendo Entertainment System represented a sea change in what video game consoles could do and how they were received at home. Released in 1985 in North America, the NES came out at a time when the American market was still reeling from the great industry crash of 1983. Compared to the Atari 2600 which was the previous home console of choice, the NES had better graphics, sound, processing power, and yes, gimmicks. The 1985 launch was actually limited to New York City for the holiday season, and was then expanded in 1986 when it was clear to be a success.
Anime (Wasteland and Sky): As anyone who knows anime knows, there are two kinds of mecha series. First there were the originals, the super robots, then there were those created with Mobile Suit Gundam, the real robots. The former were pulp heroes that went on adventures to stop the villains while the latter were based on soldiers fighting in wars. Different approaches and aims allowed for very different legacies.
Book Review (Matthew Constantine): The second book in The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander, The Black Cauldron is somewhat more complex and more interesting than The Book of Three. Having already been introduced to many of the characters, we don’t need to go through that again and can instead jump right into the action. Taran and friends are tasked with finding and destroying the Black Cauldron aka the Crochan, the magic item used to create near invincible Cauldron Born, undead warriors.
Tolkien (BBC): A pub made famous as a meeting place for fantasy authors CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien is to be made into a hotel. The Eagle and Child in St Giles’, Oxford, has a plaque inside commemorating the writers’ get-togethers. Known as The Inklings, they would regularly meet up with other academics at the Grade II listed pub. The application was approved by Oxford City Council’s west area planning committee on Tuesday.
D&D/Cinema (Tenkar’s Tavern): Comicbook.com shared an article about the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie (due Summer of 2021) – Thanks to Luke Gygax for sharing the article on Facebook. The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie will feature at least one character with ties to the Forgotten Realms and will focus on a quest for an iconic magical object. ComicBook.com can exclusively report that the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie currently in development by Paramount will focus on a group of adventurers looking for the Eye of Vecna, a powerful artifact that dates back to the earliest days of the game.
Pulp Hero (Black Gate): I have to confess that writing The Spider is a completely different experience for me than writing the Wild Adventures of Doc Savage, Tarzan, John Carter, or any of the other classic pulp heroes I’ve been privileged to bring back to life in new novels. With these other pulp heroes, it’s largely a matter of concocting a logical plot and having the heroes go through their customary pieces, although I seem to have quickly become an accidental king of crossovers since I’ve managed to convince the various license holders to permit me to have a few of them collide, such as Doc Savage and The Shadow, Tarzan of the Apes and King Kong.
Review (Porpor Books Blog): Men of Violence: All Review Special’ ($5.99, 93 pp) features reviews (limited to 250 words for an individual book and 500 words for a series) of over 100 paperbacks and comics published from 1953 to the present day, that fall (more or less) into the genre of ‘Men’s Adventure’ fiction. Needless to say, we live in an era in which men rarely read for pleasure, the genre of Men’s Adventure is regarded as affront to a Woke society, and any adolescent who brings a copy of Torture Love Cage (Jack Savage, 1959) to school probably will be expelled, and obliged to receive Counseling before being readmitted.
Book Review (Rough Edges): Almost a year ago, I read the first book in the Casca series by Barry Sadler and really enjoyed it. I didn’t mean for so much time to go by before I got back to the series, but that’s the way it happened. I’ve finally read the second book, GOD OF DEATH, which picks up the story of Casca Rufio Longinus, former Roman soldier who was present at the Crucifixion and was cursed with immortality because of it. Wounds or illness that would kill a normal man can’t claim him, and he’s doomed to wander the world, always making his way as a mercenary soldier.
Novel Excerpt (DMR Books): Wulfhere and Eanhere and their army of bears crept down the valley silently. From a cliff they could see Penda’s men as they sat in a little grove eating their midday meal. Eanhere took half the bears and crept round to the other side of the grove while Wulfhere waited on this side with the rest. Wulfhere crept quietly closer till only a small knoll stood between the Mercians and himself, and he could hear their loud talk and laughter. “Ha, we will root this bear out of his den, and he will go the way of his people!” one said as he emptied his horn of mead.
Art (Karavansara): Turns out this is a Robert Maguire cover for a novel called The Deadly Lady of Madagascar, bt Frank G. Slaughter (nice name for someone writing about deadly ladies) that I will try and find somehow. If I can’t write it, I can certainly read it.
Alt. History (Enter Stage Right): Alternative history (popularly called “alternate history”) is sometimes termed “uchronia” or counterfactual history. It is important to remember that alternative history pertains to events that are in the past at the time when the narrative is being written. So, for example, the 1920s projections of Hugo Gernsback about the 1980s cannot be properly termed as being alternative history – even though his vision of the world of the 1980s is much different from what has actually occurred.
D&D (Sacnoth’s Scriptorium): So, I just got a comment on my post back in September on the new film documenting Arnesom’s role in the creation of D&D. Since the comment seems to come from the filmmaker himself, thought I’d feature it here so as to give the filmmakers a better chance to have their say. Here’s their comment.
Gaming Magazines (Silver Key): Later issues of White Dwarf introduced readers to Thrud the Barbarian. The loinclothed barbarian stereotype born in the pages of sword-and-sorcery (Brak, Thongor, Kothar and their ilk) was by then quite pervasive, and strip author Carl Critchlow had fun with a character that was literally all muscle and no brain—a tiny head upon a massive, muscular body. Issue #50 (February 1984) has Thrud invoking “the sacred jockstrap of Robert E. Howard” before hacking his way through a horde of castle defenders, whom he (mistakenly) believes are holding a princess captive in the tower.
Science Fiction (Tellers of Weird Tales): I’m going back farther now into the past, into spring when, in a week when I was sick, I read The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis. Things To Come (1936) was still fresh in my mind when I read these books. That freshness may have influenced my thoughts on Out of the Silent Planet (1938), Perelandra (1943), and That Hideous Strength (1945). I shouldn’t spend too much time on this, but I’m sure I will. There is a lot in The Space Trilogy and it’s hard to move past some of these things without commenting on them and applying them to issues current in this blog and in our world of today.
Weird Tales (Dark Worlds Quarterly): Seabury Grandin Quinn would begin his writing career in The Thrill Book, an early Weird Tales precursor devoted to strange and off-trail fiction. Street & Smith, the future publisher of The Phantom and Doc Savage, ran The Thrill Book for sixteen issues, from March 1 to October 15, 1919. The magazine would publish Francis Stevens’ The Heads of Cerberus, one of the first science fiction novels about parallel worlds.
Sensor Sweep: Firefly, Lou Antonelli, Nintendo 1985, Robot Anime published first on https://sixchexus.weebly.com/

You Can’t Be a Disciple Without the Divine
Easter Season Series on Discipleship Week 5
Acts 1:1-14
June 2, 2019 Ascension Sunday
Today we begin our series on the book of Acts. The first thing we need to establish is that the book of Acts was written by Luke. He wrote it as a sequel to the gospel of Luke and addressed it to an unknown recipient, Theophilus, which literally means lover of God. That’s us!
Luke begins the book of Acts with a little review of the Ascension, which he also wrote about in his gospel. The Ascension is one of those lesser known holidays on the liturgical calendar. It took place forty days after Easter, which would have been this past Thursday. Rather than call everyone back to church on Thursday night, most Christian churches today just celebrate the Ascension on the closest Sunday following, which is today. Happy Ascension Sunday!
The Ascension is a mysterious event. Luke tells us in his gospel that, forty days after Easter, after having appeared to his disciples multiple times, Jesus appeared to them one last time. He led them out to Bethany, lifted up his hands and blessed them, and was taken into heaven. The disciples were filled with awe and worshipped their risen and ascended Lord. Then they obeyed Jesus’ instructions and went back to Jerusalem, filled with joy. They stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
I have to give the disciples a lot of credit for that, being able to be so happy. We could certainly understand if, instead of being happy and filled with joy, they felt sad or confused, or just plain tired. It has been quite a roller coaster ride for the disciples! For three years they traveled with Jesus, listening to him teach the crowds, watching him challenge the authorities, and witnessing many miracles. He predicted his death and resurrection several times, but when it happened, they weren’t ready. Over the last few weeks we have been talking about his resurrection appearances and how the disciples used the time after Easter Sunday to reflect on their experiences and solidify their faith. Just about when they were probably getting used to a new normal—the resurrected Jesus—he leaves them!
Something similar is happening all around the country these days, as parents of high school seniors attend graduation ceremonies. “Commencement” we call it, marking the end of K-12 education, yes, but the beginning, the commencing of a new phase of life. Football stadiums and auditoriums will be filled with happy parents and even happier students. There will be great joy! But after the parties end, there will be a range of emotions during a transition time. Parents and young adults will have to figure out new ways of relating and staying connected to one another.
This figuring out how to stay connected is a top priority for everyone who follows Jesus. It requires soul tending: paying attention to that special invisible body part that all of us have. Luke writes in his gospel that the disciples returned to Jerusalem after the ascension with “great joy”, and that they stayed continually at the temple praising God. In Acts he tells us that the followers of Jesus—the eleven remaining disciples plus about one hundred others—joined together constantly in prayer. The gospel of Luke focuses on the joy of celebration; the book of Acts focuses on the business of transition. The gospel of Luke emphasizes praise; the book of Acts emphasizes prayer. Jesus has promised the disciples they would be his witnesses of the gospel in all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. But before they can go out and do any of that, they need to stay home and wait.
But they didn’t wait in a passive way. They waited in an active way. They met together. They worshipped. They prayed. They continued to reflect on all Jesus had taught them and kept their hearts open so they could receive the gift Jesus had for them next. They spent time caring for their souls.
Have you ever felt Jesus telling you to wait? To stand still, stay close to him, and wait? Last week we talked about Jesus washing the disciples’ feet, and how we are all called to wash each other’s feet. We said that being a servant is at the heart of being a disciple.
But we are not designed to serve 24/7. Mary and Martha were both excited to have Jesus as a guest in their home. Martha showed that excitement by cooking and cleaning and being the hostess with the most-est, while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to his teaching. Serving is important, Jesus said. But so is sitting still and listening!
While pastoring at my first church, the local clergy got to talking about this paradox at one of our ministerium meetings. Being a pastor involves a lot of serving, going out and doing for God, which is exciting—but also tiring. No one can do all that serving without taking time for prayer and study and being still. I was having a hard time finding a balance.
That’s when I heard about do-be-do-be-do rhythm of spirituality. Do-be-do-be-do sounds like a song from Frank Sinatra, but it’s also a great way to think about our faith. God calls us to DO. There is absolutely no doubt about that. To go, feed, clothe, serve, etc. But God also calls us to BE. To stop, and wait, and listen.
This do-be-do-be-do rhythm is so important to God, God even made it one of the Ten Commandments. Six days we are to work; the seventh day is for rest. Stop. Listen. Reconnect. Experience recreation, re-creation. We are designed and commanded to be do-be-do-be-do people! Without taking time to BE, we can’t expect to be able to DO those things God most wants us to do.
This rhythm is important for just not just as individuals, but as a church. We gather for worship on Sundays as an expression of our desire to BE. We come in order to get reconnected to God, to be reminded of who we are, to get rested up and equipped so that we can then got out and DO. That is our weekly pattern. But there is also a yearly pattern. We know the season of Lent is a time to pull inward, and for us to pay special attention to our souls and our connection to God. In general, summer is another season of re-creation. Often it means lighter schedules, going on a vacation, or enjoying good weather. All things to help us BE, to help us reconnect to God and be reminded of, and transformed into, who God wants us to be.
This summer Lima Church will once again enter into a sort of Sabbath rhythm: no choir rehearsal, no adult Tuesday night Bible study, fewer weekly meetings. We do this every year. But this year, we are also going to try, for the month of July, just having one service each Sunday morning at 10 am. Church Council voted to do this for several reasons. Because we normally have three morning worship services, Lima Church people don’t all know each other. Meeting together for a month will hopefully help us connect with people who usually worship at different times. Our praise band is all volunteer except for the director, Edda. Only having one service in July will give them all a much-deserved month off. But since music is so important to this church, one service allows us to bring in special guests each week to bless us with their unique witness.
The second thing I want to highlight is the Reconciling Ministry team. You may have heard me mention that there is a group of about 20 people meeting every two weeks, with the focus of helping the Lima Church adopt a statement of inclusion and affirmation of people with differing sexual orientations. We are already “welcoming”. But there is a great deal of energy in our congregation around wanting to make it clear where we as a congregation stand.
The Reconciling Team decided to spend the summer, devoting our time to prayer and study. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. We are using curriculum that centers on the idea of being bridge-builders, how to connect the church to the world, and how to connect people of various opinions in the church to each other through our mutual connection to God. We are also learning more about human sexuality in general, and on Tuesday, June 18th, we are having a workshop presented by a Penn State Brandywine instructor. We are meeting with a particular actionable goal in mind. But for the summer, we are devoting ourselves to prayer and study, awaiting further instructions from the Lord.
This Do-Be-Do-Be-Do rhythm gets played out in many ways in us and our church, and it is a huge part of all church tradition. This week I read about an ancient church father, Anthony of Egypt, who lived from 251 to 356, that’s right almost 106 years. He was raised in a wealthy Christian family but as a young man felt God speaking directly to his heart, telling him to see his possessions and give the money to the poor. So he did. He embarked on a life of solitude in the Egyptian desert, not just for a few days or weeks away, but he lived there for 20 years! “He renounced all his possessions to learn detachment; he renounced speech in order to learn compassion; and he renounced activity in order to learn prayer.” (Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Daily Office, p. 46) When Anthony emerged from his solitude, he was transformed. People remarked that he was whole in body, mind, and soul. God used him to cast out demons, care for prisoners, and even provide spiritual counsel to Emperor Constantine! Anthony emerged from his time of solitude ready and able to build bridges with everyone in his midst.
After the Ascension, the disciples waited ten days in Jerusalem before Pentecost, and they used that time well. They emerged from that time ready to be witnesses for Christ. Which meant that, for all but one of them, they emerged ready to be martyrs for Christ. John lived to be an old man, but he spent the last part of his life in exile on the island of Patmos, as punishment for being a Christian. All of the other disciples, church tradition tell us, were killed for their faith. The Greek word for witness and martyr are one and the same.
Where do you see yourself in the rhythm of discipleship? Are you getting the do-be-do-be-do balance just right? We can’t be effective witnesses without attending to our own souls. We can’t be disciples without the Divine. We are all called to be servants. But there are times when God calls us to stop and wait, to listen for further instructions, to be reminded of who we are. How will you commit to caring for your soul this summer? Amen.

okay, well today was overall pretty good. I woke up to my alarm at 11 feeling still tired despite having slept for like 11 hours and spent a few minutes going in and out of sleep before making myself actually be conscious. I was supposed to have gotten an email from the firm I had an interview scheduled with for this afternoon with info but I hadn’t, so I dug up their phone number and called them, they gave me the address and confirmed it was at 2, so once that was established I started getting ready. It was actually further away from me than I thought, I thought it was pretty decently south of me but it turns out it was also quite a bit west of me, so it would definitely be a hike. but I got ready and headed out, giving myself about an hour to get there by uber and arrived right around 1:50. long drive, lots of free way. I’d heard about the area before (it’s actually what one of the big streets by me is named after) but never actually been there so I wasn’t sure what it was like, it actually qualifies as being outside of Chicago so more of a suburb really. It wasn’t a particularly nice area, typical signs of being somewhat run down. the practice is somewhat family law somewhat immigration law, which was pretty much reflected by the area. So I go in and they’re not too big on asking questions to like actually evaluate me, but mostly just talk about what the position would be, number one would be court court court, definitely in court every day which of course I’m fine with because I love court, I’ve always wanted to be an attorney who is in court every day, I couldn’t imagine it any differently. They wanted to establish a friendly atmosphere, saying they cook out a lot in the summer and such. they did want to know if I spoke Spanish, to which I said I took it in high school and am totally willing to restart studying/am a fast learner but they weren’t too concerned about it, saying for meeting at the office one of them would always be around and could translate, and for court you always need a translator anyway so that wouldn’t be an issue. At this point it sounds like they really just want someone who can do the work, which just mostly made me feel slightly nervous because I am very concerned about the whole commute issue, which we discussed, the possibility of me getting a car was definitely played up and I said I could make that happen very quickly (which is true) but it would still be a lot. As far as hours they said everyone stays till 7 two days a week, which for me would be Monday and Wednesday (which is inconvenient being that Jess has dance Tuesday and Thursday but whatever) and works one Saturday a month, which is pretty reasonable. So I left there with mixed feelings about all of it. I was going to attempt to take public transit home, but when I got to the main road that had the bus stop I realized it was under a totally different system and I had no idea if my Chicago transit card would even work, so I said fuck it and got an uber pool, even knowing it would take forever to get home it was better that dishing out another like $26 for a normal uber home. so that took a while, we went all the way east to downtown and then up north, and it was like 3:45 by the time I got home. I got out of my suit and took care of some stuff for a while and went on my computer for a bit to look at job postings and sent in some applications. There is one position I applied for that would be soooooooo perfect and I would honestly be so so happy if it came true, it’s with the legal aid organization I was interviewing with a while back for that position I didn’t think I was fully qualified for but they wanted to interview me anyway- well, that was an “Attorney II” position, this is their “Attorney I” position who is supervised by the Attorney II’s and like, I’m actually super fucking qualified for this because it still has a lot to do with getting OPs and all that stuff I can do in my sleep since I’ve been doing it for the past three years now. So I’m really really hoping they look at my application and something comes of this, it would be really awesome to not get stuck in a job I hate where I’m not doing anything to help people the way I really want to and this would be so perfect for that. The only thing that could be a problem is the listing said speaking Spanish is required for the position, and as we went over earlier I don’t quite have that down but I guess we’ll see if they’re willing to at least have a conversation with me about the job without Spanish being listed on my resume, and if so I’ll tell them I do still have a working knowledge of it (to some extent, anyway) from high school and am very willing to study it diligently until I am much closer to fluent if not fully fluent, and I am of course a fast learner. so it would be really great if that works out. I did all of this until like 5:45 when I started working on this round of bubble tea making, I had already brewed the tea and chilled it when I got home, but now I had to attempt to make the actual “boba” which I’m personally not crazy about but they’re pretty much an essential element of bubble tea so I had to try to make them. I had them dried, I just had to boil them in some water basically to get them ready, so I figured all that out and prepped the rest of the stuff for the bubble tea, as well as ordering our dinners from the poke place we had decided to get food from. Jess and the food arrived at the same time, so we had our poke bowls and bubble tea, which came out pretty well overall (Jess accidentally knocked hers over with her elbow and ended up having her pants covered in bubble tea, which was admittedly kind of funny), and pretty soon Legends was on! Very excited for this episode after seeing people this weekend and the previews featuring Sara and Ava, who we know are my girls. I definitely didn’t expect the thing that “happened” to Ava to be that she was kidnapped by Neron, so that was an interesting twist. The whole purgatory being ikea thing was fucking hilarious, and they used it to both great comedic and dramatic effect. they systematically worked through all of the potential issues in their relationship and had open, honest conversations about them and going forward together, and honestly it was definitely one of the healthiest portrayals of a couple dealing with problems I’ve seen on tv. I love their dynamic so much, and they both really knocked it out of the park this episode. The scene with Sara in the warehouse and the many Ava’s that was shown in previews had lots of speculation about how it was going to go down, and personally I think they did a really good job with making it both funny and effective in moving the plot forward. The B plot was also great, I loved the Nora and Constantine team up, they totally kicked ass together, and I love seeing how far our girl Nora has come from where she was when we first met her, she’s grown so much and become such a genuinely good person who just wants to help people and I love that. In the scene towards the end where they had it look like she was going to let Neron possess her I was like screaming, I knew it had to be a trap though because she’s come way too far to regress like that, and I felt very happy to see that it was in fact a trap and she had not turned on the team. Of course the results of the trap were compromised thanks to Ray trying to be a white knight and ended up getting himself possessed, which I’m sure will be fun to watch in next week’s episode. Overall I really enjoyed it, definitely one of my favorite from this season. Legends was over right into Arrow, which I admittedly wasn’t paying very close attention to and stopped in the middle to call my dad and tell him about the job situation, he was definitely with me that the commute situation was untenable and it wouldn’t be a good fit, so I guess we’ll see where we go from here. But Arrow, decent episode, from my limited attention anyway lol. I liked the plot with John and his stepfather, and couldn’t help notice the pattern between John and his stepfather, then in the future we have Connor Hawke with John as his stepfather. I was also glad the future plot cleared up officially that Connor Hawke was not John Diggle Jr., since the Legends Star City 2046 episode kind of muddied things up a bit on that, even with it being an alternate timeline. I’m still not entirely sure what they’re doing exactly in the future, but I’m hoping it’ll be more interest if Laurel sticks around. I did also see Kat McNamara in person this weekend, though I didn’t actually interact with her there was a very funny event where we were at Katrina’s table while she had launched part of her prank war with Juliana and was stealing her string lights, and then we had an extended and very funny interaction with her, and all this time the person in line behind us is wearing this dinosaur mask, which we didn’t think anything of, until we walked away and looked back to see that it was fucking Kat McNamara who had been standing there they entire fucking time and had straight up paid for a Katrina autograph 😂😂we basically died laughing when we realized everything that had just happened, so I guess that made me a bit more endeared to her and by consequence her character. Felicity’s plot was interesting, it’s sad she had to supposedly destroy her creation (am I crazy or did it exist in the episode where they were showing Mia’s childhood?) but I see how it could be very dangerous getting into the wrong hands. So yeah, decent episode. I switched over to The Fix afterwards which was pretty good, though I do find it somewhat hard to believe that a celebrity in a case like that with a history like that and just having made a very obvious attempt to flee would get granted bail, especially on such dismal evidence like citing what amount of DNA evidence had not been tested yet or had come back as inconclusive. I watched the news afterwards and was gonna watch Jimmy Kimmel until I realized it was a rerun of an episode I already watched, so I switched over to Jimmy Fallon instead and watched his show and the beginning of Seth Meyer before showering and starting to get ready for bed, and now I am here. It’s almost 2 am so I should probably get to sleep, just chiropractor tomorrow which I’m like thank GOD because since I missed both my appointments last week thanks to the flu my back has been fucking killing me the whole damn time, so I very badly need to see them. I may try to make a quick store trip to grab a few things and hopefully some quarters for laundry because my laundry basket is once again overflowing (funny how fast that seems to happen). And yeah, that’s about it, so I’ll end this here. Goodnight babes. Hope your Monday didn’t suck.

Update [9]
6:30 pm
https://youtu.be/O04rpGDz7uY
https://ccoutreach87.com/8-25-17-630-pm-8/
As of now [6pm]- it actually looks like it will make landfall in the next 2-3 hours. The storm seems to have lost it’s organization- meaning the eye wall looks like it might break up over land. Which would mean the predictions of it hovering over the area for a few days- then either go back to the gulf- or head up towards Houston- might all be wrong. Hurricanes- eyes- do not develop over dry land- so if it does what I think- the storm will move in around 8 or 9- yes- there will still be rain- flooding- but by tomorrow it might actually be done. Now- that’s possible. If so- I’ll still make one lase video before I post- and then I’ll go back to the normal routine. Normal? As much as possible- because Power is out right now for about 30 thousand people in the area- and sad to say- our local provider- AEP- even during very light conditions- normally takes days to get the power on. And they have already said- before this event- to expect to wait a week or more if you lose power [Judge Neal].
So- if this is it- it worked out well. [Since I wrote this- the storm has now been north us us- yes for the last 2 days- and has caused much rain- flooding damage- below I cover more]
Landfall [10]- 7:30 pm

Harvey is considered one of the worst hurricanes to hit the U.S. in many years. It went from a tropical depression to a category 4- in 36 hours. Dale nelson [weatherman from KRIS- local news] said this will be a classic storm that meteorologists will look at for many years. Though Corpus was spared from the devastating wind damage- yet areas north us us were not so lucky. As of now [Saturday] the storm is still making damage- The coverage of the storm is saying it is unique- in the way it developed- in the speed of it’s development- and in the devastation that happened.
Many are comparing to to Celia- We have had about 3 hurricanes that came thru our area since Celia- this is no doubt the worst.

.He has spoken thru the prophets [the creed]
It’s 3 pm as I write- on this video I showed some damage from downtown Corpus and you do see the end of the Mass from the historic Cathedral.
As I was driving to church I was not sure they would be doing the Sunday Mass today- but I listened to the radio live Mass- and it seemed to be on.
The first verses I heard were from Isaiah- and that's actually the book I wanted to speak on this day [I added the verses from the Mass at the end of this post]
On the video I taught more- church history- stuff like that.
But in Isaiah 15 the prophet gives a rebuke to ungodly nations-
Isaiah 15:1 The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;
Isaiah 15:2 He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.
It is a prophecy of judgment- there are particular signs associated with it-
Isaiah 15:3 In their streets they shall gird themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, every one shall howl, weeping abundantly.
Isaiah 15:4 And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.
Isaiah 15:5 My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.
Isaiah 15:6 For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass faileth, there is no green thing.
They will go on tops of houses-
There will be a cry of destruction-
There will be judgment upon water sources-
Te city will be dark and silent-
There will be no green thing-
As I cover the hurricane- I have seen reports where city leaders have said their town looks like it would during winter [Port A]- that all the leaves and greenery have been stripped from the trees.
In Houston- they are telling people if the waters get too high to not go into the attic but to climb on the roof.
We have recently been under a water boil notice.
I read this chapter in my orderly reading of the entire Old testament.
Meaning- this is probably the first time I have read it in a few years [I go thru the Old and New testament- as well as the books I’m teaching on].
It will probably be a few more years before I read it again.
So when I come across it- in this schedule- to me- it usually is significant.
He goes on-
Isaiah 15:7 Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.
Isaiah 15:8 For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab; the howling thereof unto Eglaim, and the howling thereof unto Beerelim.
During time of judgment- people flee with their belongings- they try and save the wealth they have gained over the years.
All this- In Isaiah 15- is happening during a time of great turmoil- there is loud crying- and shock.
As I have commented about the hurricane- and because I still have no power or internet-
This one day ‘roll-out’ has turned into a sort of journal.
I would prefer to have simply posted this whole thing in one day- and moved on.
But- I guess I wasn’t supposed to do it that way- yet.
The last verse is what caught my eye-
Isaiah 15:9 For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, lions upon him that escapeth of Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.
Many of us were hoping the storm would have come thru- and broken over land by now.
Yes- the weathermen have said it what do- what it is doing now.
As of today-Houston is in very bad flood danger.
The city of Port Aransas [and Rockport] have been hit hard.
The terrain of the city has changed- maybe for good.
They are not allowing residents back in yet- and it will be many years before they re-build it back to it’s original setting- if ever.
Earlier I heard our governor say this was the strongest storm to hit the U.S- since 1961.
To be honest- I doubted it.
But he said a Cat 4 has not hit the U.S. since then.
As of now- it will probably go down as the worst hurricane to have hit Texas- ever [And yes- maybe the U.S.]
Many of the locals remember Celia [1970] and yes- it was bad.
But the prediction as of today- is Harvey will linger a few more days just north of us [Corpus]-
And possibly work its way back south- and back into the gulf.
Meaning- it might retrace its earlier path- over the cities that have already been devastated.
As I read the last verse of the prophet- in the above chapter-
It simply made me think of what the meteorologists have predicted-
for I will bring more [upon Dimon, lions upon him that escapeth of Moab,] and upon the remnant of the land.

Monday morning [17]- https://youtu.be/AmMeuQYNCL8
https://ccoutreach87.com/8-28-17-monday-morning/
This morning I read psalm 60-
The psalm acknowledges God- and his judgments in the earth-
Psalm 60:1 O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.
He sees God as the ultimate source- no thing- not even the shaking of the earth- is outside of his action-
Psalm 60:2 Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
Yet- it is in this acknowledgment that healing can come.
Most preachers say ‘repent- and believe in Jesus’ which of course is true.
Yet- when see corporate sin- the sin of a society- nation- and the after effects- we rarely allow for the true repentance needed for healing.
Because we usually respond to these earth shaking actions by saying ‘we will pray for you and help you- there is no way God did this- no- the devil shook the earth’.
Yet- the scripture says different.
True healing- forgiveness comes when people recognize their sin- their wrong.
On the video I talked about how many Christians and preachers in the Western world actually favor ‘shock and awe’-
A term coined by Donald Rumsfeld when we invaded Iraq.
The fear- death and utter terror associated with this tactic- was- and is still seen as a great thing by many in the West.
Many see the actual ‘kinetic action’ as good- just- and right.
But many of these same people can not even fathom how a just God- could also do the same- to us.
To many of you- this is a hard saying- tough to receive-
Psalm 60:3 Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.
God wants us to speak what is true- he does not simply give a forum to preachers so they can be honored for their speaking gift-
No- he gives a forum- a banner- for the purpose of declaring what is true-
Psalm 60:4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
When we say ‘God did this- God shook us’ then yes- he will come and help- he will save- he will defeat our enemies- but first we must say ‘thou hast done this’-
Psalm 60:10 Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?
Psalm 60:11 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
Psalm 60:12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
Amen-

VERSES-
1 John 3:2a
Beloved, now are we the sons of God,
4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Exodus 19:6

And as they fled before Israel, while they were going down the ascent of Beth-horon, the Lord threw down large stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died because of the hailstones than the sons of Israel killed with the sword. At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel.

Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, “Arise, and depart with your household, and sojourn wherever you can, for the Lord has called for a famine, and it will come upon the land for seven years.” So the woman arose and did according to the word of the man of God. She went with her household and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. And at the end of the seven years, when the woman returned from the land of the Philistines, she went to appeal to the king for her house and her land. Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.” And while he was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life appealed to the king for her house and her land. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, here is the woman, and here is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” ...

And the next generation, your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, will say, when they see the afflictions of that land and the sicknesses with which the Lord has made it sick— the whole land burned out with brimstone and salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath— all the nations will say, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man and beast and every plant of the field, in the land of Egypt.” Then Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt. There was hail and fire flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very heavy hail, such as had never been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. The hail struck down everything that was in the field in all the land of Egypt, both man and beast. And the hail struck down every plant of the field and broke every tree of the field. Only in the land of Goshen, where the people of Israel were, was there no hail.

Lectionary: 121
Reading 1
IS 22:19-23
Thus says the LORD to Shebna, master of the palace: "I will thrust you from your office and pull you down from your station. On that day I will summon my servant Eliakim, son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe, and gird him with your sash, and give over to him your authority. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will place the key of the House of David on Eliakim's shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut when he shuts, no one shall open. I will fix him like a peg in a sure spot, to be a place of honor for his family."
Responsorial Psalm
PS 138:1-2, 2-3, 6, 8
R. (8bc) Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands. I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with all my heart, for you have heard the words of my mouth; in the presence of the angels I will sing your praise; I will worship at your holy temple. R. Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands. I will give thanks to your name, because of your kindness and your truth: When I called, you answered me; you built up strength within me. R. Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands. The LORD is exalted, yet the lowly he sees, and the proud he knows from afar. Your kindness, O LORD, endures forever; forsake not the work of your hands. R. Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands.

ROM 11:33-36
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

MT 16:18
R. Alleluia, alleluia. You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel
MT 16:13-20
Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

#dc x dc#deadman being the good co-worker he is did not gossip to the other jld members#he totally did#jld starts pestering john about the babies#john against his better judgment summons them again#jld: aw what cute little ghosts#babies ellie and danny decides to hit them with a thormos just because#john constantine in the back: this is a normal tuesday#yes dan is in the thermos#babies have decided that every time they are summoned they go straight to john
