Prompt 5 - Awful First Meeting
@wolfstarmicrofic May 5, word count 688
Sirius spied him from across the room. There were much more attractive people at the party but something about him caught his eye. He watched him for a while, scoping him out. The man wandered near the wall and Sirius made him move.
He slid up to the tall man and braced his hands either side of him against the wall.
“Hi there sexy, how’s it going?” This move had a 100% success rate for Sirius. Once, they got a look at his pretty face, and he turned on his charms. They were putty in his hands. This time, however, backfired spectacularly.
The man tensed and then, with strength that surprised Sirius, shoved him away before shouting.
“Fuck off!” Silencing the party as he stormed out of the room. A few of the party goers stared at him and snickered to each other, but most just went back to dancing.
Regulus’s best friend, Barty, sidled up beside Sirius.
“Yeah, that’s Remus. He doesn’t like it when people box him in, breathe his air or basically get in his space.”
“No shit,” Sirius glowered at him. Barty didn’t even bat an eyelid. Instead, he ran a finger down Sirius’s arm and said,
“But I’m all about being shoved up against walls.” He winked at Sirius as he rejoined the party, getting lost in the crowd. Sirius was mad, but he was not that mad. No way could he handle Barty’s craziness on top of his own.
He ran out of the room, hoping to find Remus and apologise.
“Hey!” He yelled down the street at the retreating figure. “Hey, wait up!” Remus didn’t slow down. Sirius was out of breath by the time he caught up with his long strides. “Hey. I’m. Sirius.” He gasped between breaths. “I. Just. Wanted. To. Apologise. For what. I did. Back there.” He pointed in the general direction of the party.
“Don’t care.” Remus said coldly as he folded himself into an ancient Vauxhall Corsa and sped away.
“Do you want his number?” Evan said, popping out of the bushes. Sirius jumped out of his boots.
“What the fuck, Evan! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!” Sirius clutched his chest. Evan’s mouth spread into a toothy grin.
“Nope, just trying to steal your boots!” He bent down and snatched them up as he ran back into the party. Sirius didn’t even bother chasing him down, he’d get them back eventually. He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. His night was not going to plan.
He was about to head back into the party and find out what Evan had planned for his poor boots when a car stopped beside him.
“Were you just mugged?” Remus asked, after rolling the window down. Sirius barked out a laugh.
“No, it was just Evan. I’ll get them back.” Sirius thought while he had Remus’s attention he’d push his luck. “So can I get your number then? I really would like to make up for that disastrous introduction in there.” He put on his best, 'I’m sorry, please love me' face, and Remus gave in.
“Fine, give me your phone.” Sirius gleefully unlocked it and handed it over. Remus reached a hand out of his window and took it.
“Gee,” He said, smiling wickedly. “It sure would be a shame if you were mugged twice tonight,” And he sped away, cackling.
“OI!” Sirius yelled as he chased after the car in his socks. The car stopped halfway down the street and Sirius collapsed in the open window, reaching in to take his phone back. He couldn’t even get mad because the smile that greeted him made it all worth it.
“Go get your shoes, and you can treat me to a McDonald's.” Sirius didn’t waste any time and rushed back into the party, tackled Evan to the ground, took back his boots, waved at his brother and almost dived head first into the little car.
As Remus pulled away from the kerb, Sirius thought maybe his terrible night would turn around. That was until he found out how much Remus could eat.

'This month, the world’s longest-running science-fiction television show is recognising an impressive milestone. Doctor Who, BBC One’s flagship family show, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with three specials and the return of David Tennant as the titular Time Lord...
A bullet-proof Vauxhall Corsa
Defying all known motoring logic, Tenth Doctor companion Martha Jones (played by Freema Agyeman) snapped up a Corsa B despite the existence of something called 'Fiesta'. Still, it came with some very unusual modifications.
In the 2007 instalment The Sound Of Drums, Martha’s car managed to deflect a barrage of machine gun fire from numerous bad guys with just a few sparks and not a dent in sight, never mind an exploding car (in fairness, the rear window did smash). Thankfully, her passengers David Tennant and John Barrowman were also unharmed...
A 1956 Vespa
Ok, this is the last non-car on this list of cars. Honest. But this one’s pretty damn cool.
David Tennant, also pretty cool, rocked the moped with an equally stylish Billie Piper sitting on the back as the couple hit London in 1953 (pretty naughty of him bringing future transport but we’ll let him off as the Doctor was intending to land in 1956). Due to the vehicle being fiendishly difficult to ride, stunt doubles were used for any shots of them moving.
Peugeot 307
The 2002 European Car of the Year did actually save the world. Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) owned a dark blue version and, famously, in the episode titled Turn Left, she used the car to turn… right! Only kidding. She turned left.
By doing so, she changed time and saved the Doctor, the world and, indeed, the whole universe. Sadly, her power could not extend to making the 307 desirable...'

Poker Face: Season 1– TV Review
TL;DR – This was a delightful romp across America where we solved a murder each week in almost the same way, and I was captivated for the whole run. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Stan service that viewed this series. Poker Face Review – At times, the modern TV landscape is perpetually stuck in a state of cognitive dissonance. People tend to use the word ‘old-fashioned’…

U.S.A.
L’audit viene effettuato in ogni dipartimento.
Sanno almeno come costruire camion postali elettrici? Sanno come ottenere contratti e sostenere i federali.

Ti suona familiare?
L'ultima visita a casa di tua nonna.

L’Italia deve prepararsi a inviare i soldati in Ucraina.

So this has been in my mind since rumors about the details of Lewis' Ferrari contract started and John Elkann just giving Lewis everything and more.
Over the years, Lewis had gotten used to rumors about him going to Ferrari. It was just the type of thing that happened when you won championships and weren’t a Ferrari driver already. The common belief in Formula One had always been that everyone wanted to drive the red car at least once, to etch their name alongside so many greats, to have the bells of Maranello ring for them.
So there had always been rumors about Lewis going to Ferrari and leave Mercedes. Rumors of him trading the German manufacturer for the Italian manufacturer, trading silver for red – or Rosso Corsa as Sebastian had told him many, many times over their shared years in Formula One.
However, despite his friendships with people at Ferrari’s helm and the cars he bought from them, Lewis had never thought to leave Mercedes for Ferrari. Or at least he hadn’t thought about it seriously. A few times he’d joked about with his friends whilst drunk and high off the feeling of winning a championship.
That had been before John Elkann.
John had somehow snuck up on Lewis. Bit by bit integrating himself into Lewis’ social circles until it wasn’t odd that the two were grabbing lunch or coffee or occasionally dinner when they were both in Monaco and sometimes during race weekends. Until it wasn't odd that Lewis knew where the man lived and had spent some nights there. Until it wasn't odd that they talked almost all the time, even when they weren't in the same place.
And then things had begun to sour at Mercedes. Lewis hadn’t gotten so far in his career without seeing that the tide was changing and it wasn’t in his favor. He’d gone to them with a request for a three year deal and a brand ambassador position for when he was done. It had seemed like a simple request – they’d talked about the ambassadorship so many times over the years.
Despite previous talks about his future with the team, Penni had informed him that the higher-ups at Mercedes were only interested in a one year contract. After continued talks, they’d come to a 1 + 1 contract, giving both sides an exit clause and Lewis knew that sooner than later they’d be pushing him out to make room for someone younger. But this was his team, his home, the place he’d admitted his love for Nico and subsequently lost it. The one place that tied him to Nico, to Niki, to so many important parts of his life.
“Say, I were to be looking at my options for 2025-” Lewis doesn’t even have to finish his sentence before John is sliding him a black, hard-cover folder with the Ferrari symbol emblazoned on it. “Do you just carry this with you?”
“Would you believe me if I said no?” John asks, pouring more wine in their glasses.
“Given the speed with which you pulled it out, no,” Lewis says as he finally opens the folder. There’s a contract inside. A contract for 2025.
Lewis is skimming over it when John starts talking. “We’d have to discuss some of the details concerning salary, bonuses, initiatives, the usual stuff. But it would be $100 million, with $20 million of that going to Mission44. A multiyear contract as you want, whether that be a 2+1 or something else along those lines. And I would put in an additional $400 million investment fund for any projects you have,” John lists out the things that Lewis is reading. “And of course, you can bring anyone that you like from Mercedes. Including your race engineer,” he adds.
It’s… a lot. So much more than Mercedes has ever been willing to do.
Lewis isn't going to sign it right away. He's not an idiot. His management needs to go over it and speak to his lawyers. But Lewis had seen the tides shifting out of his favor and the contract is very nice.
"I'll need to talk to my team," Lewis says closing the folder.
"Take all the time you need. We all want you at Ferrari, I want you at Ferrari," John replies.
"I do look good in red," Lewis jokes.
"Believe me, tesoro, I have noticed," John retorts.

I issued a Nightwing-based art challenge a little bit ago. Was just gonna make an example sketch but then everything got incredibly out of hand.
Randomized pose based on "John Corsa - photo by Brenda Cantu"
Background mostly just photo edited from this free source image. Because I was running out of steam fast.

FINAL TAPE RELEASES FOR 2023
Hi everyone
Hope all is good. Just letting you know that our final batch of tapes for 2023 are now available at https://cruelnaturerecordings.bandcamp.com/
They are:
1) ST JAMES INFIMARY "Abandoned"
SJI take on Americana. Where Nashville is Newcastle, Lee Hazlewood lived in Ashington and The Byrds wrote 'Sweet Heart Of The Rodeo' in Bedlington. Wry humour, societal reflections and dark observations, with rousing bittersweet melodies.
2) LOOK TO THE NORTH "A Shadow Homeland" (3 copies left)
Dronefolk duo David Colohan (Agitated Radio Pilot, Raising Holy Sparks, United Bible Studies) and Zachary Corsa (Nonconnah, Lost Trail, Pines, Yearlings) serve up a mesmerising otherworldly work of atmospheric ambience, sparse piano, spoken word & field-recordings.
"A Shadow Homeland sees Colohan and Corsa expose the kind of folk drone that feeds into the morbid darkness this time of year brings. " - Sun 13
3) MADRELARVA "Tierra de Silencio"
Epic soundscapes from Spanish experimentalist Julio Tornero, a tour de force, journeying through spacious rhythms, modular arpeggios and analogue bubbles. Channeling artists like Conrad Schnitzler and Nurse With Wound. A homage to the formative years and evolution of electronic music.
4) NONCONNAH "Shadows From The Walls Of Death"
Memphis-based experimental music duo who explore themes of memory and the past, the lingeringly supernatural, and the profoundly American through hallucinatory layers of guitar and the spectral decay inherent in ‘obsolete’ recording mediums. Drawing on sonic traditions as varied as ambient and drone, shoegaze, noise, psych-rock, post-rock, and the occasional touches of old time/Appalachian folk music.
"like Flying Saucer Attack meets John Carpenter" - Les Hall, Cutters Choice Radio
Shipping now.
Thanks
Steve xx
