Also included with Deadpool was Bob, Agent of HYDRA! Previously just an alternate head, Bob now gets his very own toy! I love that I have a figure of this guy, he's one of my favorite niche Marvel nobodies. He's solid, not much to say here. Kinda wish he had an alternate cowering head.

Earth-18104

Currently reading
Tagged by @oldshrewsburyian to list my past, current, and future reads.
Last read: Books finished in the last week-to-10 days include If We Were Villains (M.L. Rio), A Desolation Called Peace (Arkady Martine), Silverview (John le Carre), The English Experience (Julie Schumacher), Calling Ukraine (Johannes Lichtman), and Prisoners of the Castle (Ben Macintyre). And possibly one or two others I'm forgetting, currently having the short-term memory of a goldfish.
Current read: About to start Swim Home to the Vanished (Brendan Shay Basham), Stiletto (Daniel O'Malley) and Traveling with the Dead (Barbara Hambly), possibly in something like that order? They're all on my bedside table, at least.
Next read: The next crop on the hold list at the library includes Code Girls (Liza Mundy), Radium Girls (Kate Moore), Fourth Wing (Rebecca Yarros), Fellow Travelers (Thomas Mallon), and Cutting for Stone (Abraham Verghese). I will probably also reread Into the Silence (Wade Davis) soon.

Don't Do That Podcast: Slaying The Internet's Wildest Myths
Tumblr media
In Germany, around 1440, the goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable-type printing press, which started the Printing Revolution. Human civilization had waited for nearly 600 years to discover a way beyond print to access the wealth of information Available about...well, everything.
What did we get for our long vigil? The internet? That's like children waiting all year for Santa Claus and receiving coal in their stockings, but the coal is disguised as a diamond.
In August, podcasting has been at the spear's edge of contesting conspiracy theories, misinformation, and myths. First, podcast fans received Conspiracy, She Wrote, a historical memoir of conspiracy theories.
Then, podcast fans welcomed Don’t Do That , a podcast that tackles the internet’s wildest myths and provides an antidote to the bonkers life hacks clogging up our feeds.
Each week, host the U.K's Julia Webster, a podcast producer and journalist, acts as a factual tour guide, wading through these myths to separate fact from fiction, one trend at a time.
There will be a debunking of viral trends and a reality check on the latest ‘miracle cures’ floating around TikTok and Instagram. With a sharp wit and a degree in biology, Julia Webster combines her scientific knowledge with her journalistic flair to dive deep into these trends.
Joining her for episodes along the way will be a range of resident experts, from Urologists to eye doctors and specialists in alternative medicines, together they’ll form a panel to call out the nonsense.
Topics covered in series one include:
Rosemary oil for hair growth. The single study people base their claims on is a scam, according to Webster and her experts.
Ear seeds: the scam that broke Dragon’s Den. After Giselle Boxer sold her pitch to all six dragons, everyone wanted to know what ear seeds were. In that episode, find out how ear seeds are not ancient nor Chinese, and are certainly no panacea.
Mouth Tape. Some say it helps you sleep better, children on TikTok say it can give you a more ’snatched’ jaw line.
Perhaps the two most frightening episodes are the eye color surgery show and the penis enlargement show.
The show notes for Permanent Eye Color Surgery explain: "Who wouldn’t want piercing blue eyes, or a dark, smoldering gaze? What if I told you there were optical surgeons prepared to give you just that? The only catch? You might go blind."
Webster says: "So, is permanent eye color surgery right for you? Check out this episode and find out whether that elusive stare is worth all the knives and lasers." This episode features corneal expert and Medical Director at Laser Eye Clinic in London, Mr. Fadi Kherdaji, and corneal specialist and NHS Ophthalmic Surgeon Mr. Ankur Barua.
Are piercing blue eyes worth having your eyeball pierced by a "surgeon" from another nation, who cuts into your eye?
For me, I'll stick with shoe leather brown eyes.
In the second episode of the show about jelqing, Webster describes the wet dream of many men -- besides returning to the 1950s when women were third-class citizens -- which is enlarging their penis size. It may be the only activity / aspiration that tops the fantasy football draft.
Webster advises: "Don’t try anything that says it will add inches to your member. Stretching, vacuuming, jelqing; these techniques are no laughing matter. These techniques can even lead to injuries resulting in smaller penises. This once viral meme is still a serious point of discussion in manosphere circles across the internet. Why are men so consumed with their size when it seems their partners are perfectly satisfied? In this episode, I speak to Men’s Health specialist, Dr. Justin Dubin."
Check out Don't Do That. It's written, produced, and hosted by Julia Webster, who brings a lot of energy, absurdist humor, and piercing one-liners to these examples of internet insanity.
More importantly, Webster's advice could save you from risking blindness to change your eye color, or endangering your manhood with a risky, stretching procedure.

Hiya, 'blrs. Been a minute. Anyway, here's a poem. No witty repertoire rn as I'm working but yeah...
Sea birds by Johannes Winston Wiley
Seabirds don't know no cold,
That intemperate weather.
They strut and step in time about the sand.
Sea birds don't know no cold,
With warm ruffled feather,
As they strut and step on hand in hand.
Sea birds don't know no cold,
The hellish biting frost of morning's touch,
As the wade about the shoal and sand and tide.
Sea birds don't know the cold I know.
They strut and march amidst the ravages of man,
As knee deep in trash as sand.
And I watch them old sea birds strutting about as if life is passing them by.

CAVERN DEEP Share AI-Generated Music Video for “Primordial Basin”
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
Tumblr media
Single Art by Max Malmer
CAVERN DEEP is a slow, heavy doom trio from Umeå, Sweden, founded 2019 with bassist Max Malmer, guitarist Kenny Oswald Dufvenberg, and drummer Dennis Sjödin creating an atmosphere that's as grim as the name implies.
The band released its first album through Interstellar Smoke Records to critical acclaim (topping on #7 on The Doom Charts) and now comes a second. "Part II - Breach" is a continuation on the concept of the first album about an archaeological expedition in the bowels of a great mountain (read it here). It features guests artists Susie McMullan of Brume, Johannes Behndig of Sarcophagus Now, and Thomas V Jäger of Monolord.

Today, we're auditing track no. 2, "Primordial Basin." There is a backstory to this track, which is part of a narrative spanning six songs in total. This one, admittedly out of context, was intriguing enough to share:
She is watching patiently. The engineer. The last of its kind. The theft of this essence from the otherworldly refuge was the final attempt. Embedded in the being below her is the code. Her design. Her revenge. Deep down in the basin, the putrid water stirs as the being breaks free from its membranous nursery. The engineer watches in silent triumph from afar as the being destroys everything in its path in blind newborn rage. Wading through the festering amniotic fluid it is pulled by an inner voice to the east.
The song unfurls a swirl of feedback, soft bass, and a mysterious riff delivered with razor sharp guitar tone. The doomed pacing and ornate song structure makes me think of something from the Baroque period, only darker. That, and the band Pilgrim.
Brume's McMullan joins two minutes in, which comes as a welcome release. Susie is one of my favorite singers in the heavy underground and her forlorn vocals reach rare shades of emotion. Don't miss the stinging and beautiful heavy metal solo at the 5:45 mark.
The music video does a good job of painting a mesmerizing tapestry for us visually. The band reveals: "It was made with a home-made AI created by Max, using only art that we have the rights to use." And good news if you like this one; there'll be one for each song.
Cavern Deep's Part II - Breach is scheduled for a July 14th release on vinyl (pre-order here) and CD (pre-order here) care of Bonebag Records. Stick it on a playlist with Candlemass, Spelljammer, and Brume.
Give ear...

In Tahiti, women are rocking the boat
In Tahiti, women are rocking the boat
Good News Notes: “Put your paddle in deeper and feel the water,” says Hinatea Bernadino, as our outrigger canoe glides effortlessly through the glassy Tahitian lagoon. I can clearly see the bottom six feet below me and the parrotfish darting by us. “You and the canoe are one person.” In an outrigger canoe, called va’a in Tahitian, the ability to be guided by mana—the life force, the energy of…

Hi! Sorry for being completely out of blue, but - (1) I love your art and (2) reading about Roisia reminds me of a novel A Dr. Greta Helsing by Vivian Shaw. They just got a similar feeling (in a good way). I don't know if you read/heard about this novel, but if you didn't, it may be of interest to you. Again, I'm sorry for just coming with this.

Don’t apologise! I’m so sorry it’s taken me this long to reply to you! That book/series sounds incredible, and I’ve added it to my reading list. C:
I’ve included two literary works that have helped me form Roisia’s character and how I think about necromancy under the cut if you’re interested in a book recommendation of my own.
If you’re interested, I highly, highly recommend Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1818 text). It’s surprisingly accessible, although you’ll have to wade through some 19th century orientalism & racism at parts. But Roisia’s desire to create life, her inability to recreate that life perfectly, and her capacity to create only monstrosities in her wake were inspired by both Shelley’s original work and the 1931 Frankenstein (although the film bears very little resemblance to the book). Frankenstein was particularly influential as I tried to reconcile Roisia’s necromantic aspirations with the fact that the 9th level necromancy spell True Resurrection is restricted to clerics and druids in D&D 5e. Roisia’s sense of duty and responsibility toward the undead that she creates, the idea that there is an irrevocable bond or covenant between the created and the creator, is also taken directly from Shelley’s book.
Jonathan L. Howard’s Johannes Cabal The Necromancer is also a great read. (Essentially: a necromancer runs a Satanic circus in order to win a deal with the devil and it was so much fun in addition to being incredibly sharp and witty.) Although Roisia bears little resemblance to the protagonist in terms of personality, Cabal’s coldly scientific approach and, barring that, the expert use of a shovel as a bludgeoning weapon prompted me to look closer at the logistics of necromancy beyond an in-game magic system. I’m reading my way through the series now and highly recommend it. C:
