Joe (Roy Arwas) (Short Film) (Mini Review)
Tumblr media
Next in the Fayetteville Film Fest "Joe Trilogy"* as I've decided to call it is the Joe short film made my Director Roy Arwas!
*(which may or may not actually be from the festival due the site's lack of info)
Tumblr media
This one's a lot darker than the first movie. It follows the story of a depressed and possibly suicidal taxi driver as he has a horrible night dealing with just ALL kinds of awful shit people - both customer and non-customer alike. This one's definitely NSFT for some of the things poor Joe gets put through.
Tumblr media
But thankfully, the short film ends on a hopeful note as Joe meets a friendly stranger who looks like she might have been in his same place at one time but was able to heal. For what looks like it might be the first time in quite a while Joe gets the company of someone who seems to actually care about his well-being.

If you'd like to see this short film for yourself, you can do so below. Just be forewarned that there's sexual content, abuse, and themes of mental illness & suicide in this one.

Here's some more screenshots below, as well.

On a happier note, we are up for a good start in 2024.
It really feels like we've seen him more in the first 5 weeks of 2024 than we did in all of 2023.
A Very Short Film About Longing is almost here..

Joe (Bandit Media) (Short Film) (Mini-Review)
Tumblr media
The next Fayetteville Film fest I looked up ending up giving me three different short films named, "Joe", so I decided, what the heck, I'll watch 'em all! The site is vague as ever, so I have no idea which is the right one, but hopefully I'll enjoy them all.
Tumblr media
This first one was a nice treat, a short comedy with a cute love story between a goofy barista gal and a nice fellow named Joe. In addition to being funny and sweet it also comes with a nice moral message about being honest and also not about trying to appeal to people through shallow displays such as "I have a fancy job".

I'm probably not going to word this 100% eloquently because the thoughts are still forming and I won't really know if they're accurate until the tortured poets department comes out but I've been thinking a lot about taylor infusing her feelings into fictional characters and songs where the parallels to her life are more discreet/have to be worked for by fans as a way of taking the heat off her relationship with joe and how that decision is also inexplicably tied to being a product of the pandemic and the fact that potentially their 'timeline' was thrown for a loop like so many others. she wrote that not knowing if people would get it or appreciate the sound and probably thought it would be a bit more of a softball album in how it landed for only the people who really got it(remembering her mindset around lover being her last chance at success) but instead it made her bigger than ever, unbalancing the quiet private dynamic they'd decided on, which might have involved changing the way she wrote. I'm not saying she was restricted or limited but maybe they felt fiction was the only sustainable lens at that pont. Then, as the world opens up, she also coincidentally starts releasing re-recordings which are back to being sharply diaristic and people even respond to those in exciting big ways including the All Too Well short film which I'm now curious about in terms of whether there were any sticking points with taylor stepping more into film-making so much so that she writes a script and gets it picked up by searchlight. tensions rise and taylor's reminded of how much it helps to be straightforward and raw so she ends up making midnights the rawest of them all, an exploration of her past to avoid thinking about her present and future which now look so starkly different than they did pre-pandemic but she does so without joe being there. they write sweet nothing together except the fictional element is gone - this is their most straightforward collaboration, an attempt to process and repair the only way she has ever known how; by writing except the bandaid doesn't work, only revealing more of the wound I just find it all very interesting...
