One thing that has made me a much more well-adjusted person is a clip I once saw of Hank Green saying that anyone can be in amazing shape as long as being in amazing shape is one of their top three priorities.

(This is obviously a generalization that isn't true for everyone. But it is true for most people and I'm proceeding from there.)

This "top three priorities" framing has genuinely reduced my tendency toward jealousy and self-comparison a lot. Now when I feel envious of someone’s spotless, aesthetic home, I think to myself, “Having a spotless, aesthetic home is probably one of their top three priorities. It’s definitely not one of mine, so I shouldn’t expect my home to look like that.”

Or when I see an influencer with a body that takes a ton of work to maintain: “Maintaining that body is obviously one of her top three priorities, because it’s her livelihood. My livelihood is my brain, so I’m never going to prioritize my body like that.”

It also helps me to identify areas that I actually DO want to prioritize more. I realized in recent years that my envy for my friends who prioritized writing more than I did was NOT going away, so I started to prioritize writing more. (Not top three, but higher priority than it has been in the past.)

 I didn’t get a callback. I’m not getting the part. I “wasn’t one of their favourites.” This has happened before and will definitely happen again. But this one stings. A lot. Not least because of the importance of the story and how much it means to me (which out of respect for everyone involved and their ongoing process, I’ll keep to myself). But also because this could’ve been it. Every actor, hell every creative who’s been around long enough and got any auditions/experience under their belt knows it. The life-changer. The one where doors open and people take notice and the phone actually starts ringing. The one that if you get it, it means you’ll be gliding for a little bit after paddling hard

Wrote a piece about creativity, rejection, representation & the utter exquisite madness of a life in the arts. It’s brutal out here and we’re doing the thing. Even the titans and greats were us once. Keep making art and showing up x

swiftie tumblr is like one of those small villages where they have a guy for everything that everyone knows. oh, you want to know when a song was written? visit that guy, they'll know. you want to know what something means? ask the person who lives up the road. you need an exact day that something was said? this person will probably have it. you need a specific photo? good news, we all know the person who exclusively collects specific photos. every time i'm on a different social and someone asks for a detail about something, i sound like the village welcomer in those old movies. like, "hello, traveler. if you visit the dude who lives at the corner of the old oak tree you'll find this audio clip that you've been looking for."

woof this new heights clip of travis talking about the loss hits hard. I love that he takes accountability and I know he didn't play his best, that there were simple mistakes made, but jesus he didn't play it on his own. And I also love that jason made him laugh in the end and was encouraging BUT I also wish he'd pushed back a little bit more about travis taking all the weight. for some reason it reminded me of the grammy noms clip in miss americana where taylor says that she "just needs to make a better record" and ugh that just hurts

unfortunately actually being productive and having a routine and leaving my house to be a person in the world and eating real meals consistently does improve my mental health which means i have to keep doing it except i have mental illness that makes me not do it so you see my dilemma
