My favourite vampire TV show, with the stipulation that this doesn't necessarily mean it's the best, is the 1998 series Ultraviolet, which is about a small group of vampire hunters in the present day and features a remarkable number of people who later became famous in other things. One of the vampire hunters is Idris Elba. Another is Jack Davenport, which probably has something to do with how much sympathy I had for Norrington in Pirates of the Caribbean. The first vampire killed on screen went on to star in True Blood. The leader of the vampire hunters was already famous as Inspector Javert in Les Mis, which is an amazingly resonant bit of casting and I wish I knew if it was deliberate. (An elder vampire who appears near the end of the series was Jonathan Harker in a 1960s screen adaptation of Dracula, and I don't know if that was deliberate either.)

I haven't rewatched it in years, and I'm sure there are bits that have aged poorly (and not just because, like many high-tech shows of the time, a 21st-century viewer is going to really notice how much the plot depends on the characters not having smartphones), but the bits that work really work, and I remember it with a great deal of fondness.

This exhibition beings together over 20 artists to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Charlie Ahearn ( @twincharlie )’s seminal film ‘Wild Style’🔥

In the words of the curator Carlo McCormick-

“While ‘Wild Style 40’ is in many ways a celebration of the graffiti art form that emerged out of this time and starred in the movie, it is centered within a broader circle of participation, including key figures from Colab, who were also forging new kinds of urban art, artists who were major supporters and benefactors of graffiti, the photographers who not only captured this movement but embodied it, and a few who have somehow carried these traditions with an authenticity and ingenuity that goes beyond what hip hop sounds like or graffiti looks like today.”

Reaction: A lot of church statuses this time, with the bonus of even having a whole bible verse status. I'm enjoying seeing these little snapshots in time. I would have been a Junior in high school at this point, obviously church was a big driving factor for my life at this point. Most of the likes on these statuses are people from church, Joe Ahearn commented on my DS status asking me if it was the pink DS that broke. It was. I remember that DS.

The large carrot status actually made me laugh out loud. Probably still something I would post today. I can't wait to get to the Dunkin statuses, and the Kingswood statuses.

13 episodes into the revived Doctor Who series, Christopher Eccleston's Doctor regenerated into David Tennant's Doctor in The Parting of Ways. The episode first aired on June 9, 2006. I mentioned in my previous post that I was looking forward to this one because I remember it being good, but holy hell, I forgot just HOW good.

In this episode, Rose causes a fracture in time by saving her dad when he should have died in a hit and run. It's about how going back and changing history in even the smallest way can have knock-on effects, especially when several paradoxes are created (e.g. the Doctor and Rose being there twice because they went back and tried again; Rose holding herself as a baby). It also emphasises that despite what someone might think, everyone is important.

I love a story where time plays an important part in it and changing it causes strange things happen (it's one of the reasons why I love Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes), so I loved this episode because of that.

It's just a really clever story that also turns the emotional dial up to 1000. The moment that really got me was when Pete realises that he shouldn't have been saved, and he knows what he needs to do. The frame just stays on his face for at least 10 seconds, and you can see the realisation hit him.

It's interesting as I'm rewatching to build up a list of some of my favourite episodes, and this is definitely going on it.

Next up is The Empty Child... I'm going to get ready to hide behind a cushion.
