please see fall guy if you have not. ryan gosling and emily blunt are both phenomenal (as always). it has explosions and romance and a dog that understands french and the song all too well and it really feels like a love letter to the stunt community and best of all, it’s a movie about the making of a movie, which i will eat up every time.
"doctor who isn't as dark as it used to be it dropped off" shut up shut up shut up. It's a kid's show. It's meant to encourage little children to imagine things beyond their wildest dreams.
It's meant to teach children wonderful things like being kind no matter how different someone is, standing up for what is right, and knowing what real kindness is, all while subtly encouraging to engage with the political currents that envelope them without being sucked into the terrible place that is real world politics.
Just because you have forgotten curiosity and unbridled joy and being wide eyes and full of hope at your big age of 25 doesn't mean you get your miserable way with a show that is meant to reassure a 7 year old that there IS in fact a bight future ahead of them and that they get to dream of big things and want to be a wonderful human being without being constantly reminded that there is so much evil around them.
Danver’s specific brand of racism is so intrenched in love it’s fascinating. Her daughter is precious to her and her daughter is Indigenous and in this town, an Indigenous woman is not viewed as a precious thing. They are abused and raped and murdered and therefore, being white is the ‘better’ choice. She is actively whitewashing her daughter, not only because she’s afraid of what she doesn’t understand and because of typical coloniser mentality, but because she doesn’t want to lose her. Danvers can’t distance Indigenous identity from white violence and it’s killing what she loves.
