Chapter 11: Back to Danny's POV

I knew today was Haley's birthday, I had it memorized from the calendar. I've been debating all morning while I tend to my crops if I should bother to bring her anything or not. From the last thing she said to me yesterday, I don't think I want to. However, Haley may not have meant it the way she said it. Her face seemed apologetic after she said it.

Haley is so unreadable. One minute she is rude and sassy, the next she is soft and friendly, but then she is right back to being mean soon after. I don't know what her problem is with me.

I've gotten a lot of money in the past few days from throwing random mushrooms and berries I find on the ground. I've also gone fishing as much as possible. I have just enough saved up to get that expansion to my house. I have to go to the mountains to Robin. I had finally met everyone at the Egg Festival yesterday, so I know who Robin is.

The trek up the mountains was a long one, thankfully this farm has been keeping me in shape. I found a lot more fruits, berries, and daffodils on the ground on my way up. Perfect to sell later. My pockets are overloading with random stuff.

I open the door to Robin's house, and Sam passes me on his way out of the house. He is disheveled, and from what I can tell, wearing one of Sebastian's black hoodies.

Catching him off guard, Sam scrambles for words, "Oh...Hey Danny...Fancy seeing you here."

"Hey Sam. On your way home? Rowdy night?" I tease knowing full well what was going on.

"Don't say a word to anyone," he points a finger at me accusingly. I hold my hands up in surrender and zip my fingers across my lips.

Sam scurries off before his mom, Jodi, notices he isn't home since it is still fairly early in the morning. Jodi is the same lady who watched me get kicked out of Haley's house and was walking with Vincent. Vincent is Sam's brother.

When I walk into Robin, Sebastian, Demetrius, and Maru's house, Robin is awaiting behind a desk with a cash register perched on it.

"I see you got to witness Sam running out from seeing Sebastian," is the first thing Robin says to me when I walk in, "They are really bad at hiding it. I knew what they were up to pretty quickly, but I didn't say anything. They know I know at this point."

"There are a lot of things happening in this small town. It's hard to hide anything here, I'm surprised people don't know." I responded.

"I think the only person who doesn't know is Abigail weirdly enough. I think she has a little crush on Seb. Poor girl. Like I said, they do a bad job at hiding it," she chuckles and motions to the short walkway on the right that leads to a bigger hallway going the other way. I see Sebastian walk upstairs from their basement and try to scuttle past the hallway. Before he makes it completely past, he notices I am standing there and freezes

"Oh hi Danny," he says. He has his shirt off, which allows me to see the hickeys he has along his chest. I stifle a laugh, and he takes off down the bigger hallway where I can't see him anymore.

"Told you they are bad at hiding it," Robin couldn't even see Sebastian from behind her desk since the wall blocked her view, but she still knew what was up. "Anyways, what can I do for you?"

"I was wondering if I could expand my house. I'm in desperate need of a kitchen. A bedroom would be cool too."

"Of course! I can absolutely build you a kitchen and bedroom," she exclaimed excitedly, "should take only a couple days."

I handed her the money I had saved up, waved goodbye, and walked out. Unsure of what to do for the rest of the day, I walk over to the town square. From the pathway to the townsquare, I can see the fountain off in the distance when I start passing the community center. Haley is sitting along the edge of it, looking miserable. I sigh and make my way over to her.

When I approach, I hold my hand out to her, not saying a word. In my hand was a daffodil I had picked on my way to Robin's. One I had stuffed into my pocket for later.

"You remembered my birthday?" She takes the daffodil from my hand, lightly brushing her hand against mine, "I'm impressed. Thanks."

"Mhm," is all I say back. Politely, I take a seat next to her on the ledge of the fountain.

"Have I mentioned I like your haircut?" She's trying to ease the tension between us. I am too busy looking at the ground.

"You have not. But thank you." I have already forgotten I cut my hair off. I decided the other night that it just gets in my way and in my mouth when I am trying to do farm work. I cut it to about shoulder length, but it looks a bit wonky and shaggy. Today I pulled some of my hair into a ponytail, but left the majority of it down in a half-up, half-down style. A few escaped pieces dance around to frame my face.

"Nice makeup. Wait... Are you even wearing any?" she asks. I look up but when I do, I'm met with her pretty close to my face. She flinches at my sudden turn and backs up. I feel my cheeks warm up and her cheeks go bright pink. We both shyly gaze at one other, staring into each other's eyes.

"I've only worn makeup 10 or 11 times in my life. It makes my skin feel weird." I wipe my cheek with my hand as I imagine the feeling.

"Your eye is looking better. Looks less...purple?" She reaches out to put her hand over my eye. She hesitates before she does, trying to judge my reaction. I don't move away or push her hand away. She takes that as an okay sign and places it gently over my bruised eye. "It's not as swollen anymore either."

"It will still take some time to go away. It still has to turn an icky yellow, green color." I pretend to gag.

"Yuck! I hate when bruises turn that color." She says. We sit there and chuckle at our lame attempts at conversing.

"What happened here?" Her voice now sounds concerned. She lightly traces the scar on my brow bone, causing me to shiver.

"Ah big childhood accident. You know, getting attacked by bears in the forest," I watch her brows furrow as she tries to process what I just said. "I'm just kidding. I didn't get attacked by a bear. I was attacked by a marble countertop when I was 11. I was running, sprinting even, next thing you know I trip over my own foot and smack my head on the way down. Resulted in 10 stitches at the hospital. Funny thing is I can't even remember what I was running for."

"Oh my Yoba! That's crazy!" she cries out as I finish my story. She goes back to trace my scar, but instead uses her full hand. She slowly brings her hand down my scar and down the side of my face. I can't help but stare into her ocean blue eyes. She is too focused on examining the rest of my face to notice me looking at her.

This is the most vulnerable I have ever felt in my life. I don't know what it is about Haley, but I just can't seem to stay mad at her. She just has such a charm to her that keeps me coming back. I can never stop thinking about her either.

"Whelp," I smack my hands on my thighs, "I still have a lot of work to do on the farm to do still," I stammer, messing up my words entirely.

"You said 'to do' and 'still' twice," she giggles.

"Did I? Ah well, I guess I was just too entranced by you," I say boldly. I get up off the ledge of the fountain and start making my way to the farm. But before I am out of Haley's sight, I call back to her, "Happy Birthday, Haley." I leave her sitting in a daze on the ledge of the fountain.

Maru and I share notes on things we've built in the past few days every time we see each other

M. Rasmodius had two kids with two different women in town (which is why the witch divorced his ass): Abigail (duh) and WAIT FOR IT...Sebastian. We know nothing about Sebastian's father, but Seb himself is very attuned to nature and has the same slight smugness at the beginning as the Wizard. Do Seb and Abigail know they're related? No. Will they ever? Who knows. Do they feel a strong connection between them? Yes. Has it been confused for a crush and will it dissapate into a sibling-like relationship eventually? Absolutely.

Marnie knows she deserved better than Lewis. That's why she's been considering Marlon.

Gil (the monster slayer rewards guy) is Jodi and Harvey's dad.

Lewis siphons money from the town's taxes into various "town _____ funds", most of which he keeps for himself. (gold for a solid gold statue is expensive) the only reason he doesn't keep the agriculture fund is because I moved into the farm.

Evelyn and Grandpa had a long and storied romance before she met George. They were middle school sweethearts all the way through high school, but when they graduated, she left for a job in the city, and he stayed behind on the farm. He eventually met our grandmother, who he married, and when evelyn came back she was a bit saddened but she kept in touch with both of them. Soon after she met George, and that was that.

Pam and Clint are cousins

Gunther is actually running a small smuggling ring with his wife, the Travelling Cart woman (I call her Maureen). They smuggle artifacts and supplies over enemy lines.

"Our beloved Mona" in the cemetery is actually Jas and Shane's Mom, Marnie's Sister. Shane had a rough relationship with her, opting to go with his dad in the divorce, but when dad turned out to be an abusive ass, he came back to mom's. He and Mona got along a bit better and he even started thriving in school. She would make him homemade Jalapeno bacon pepper poppers as a reward for good grades, and threw him a pizza party when he made the Varsity gridball team. After he graduated, she had Jas and named him her godfather on top of being her half brother. Then she had an awful accident about a year and a half later. Demetrius is working on secret military projects but can't let his family know, so he wanders off (to the lakeside and to the fountain) to work on them.

Harvey has a shelf in his apartment full of ultra expensive and intricate model planes, half of which were gifts from Jodi

Kent and Harvey have a strained relationship due to Kent having seen the true horrors of war and Harvey glorifying service in the armed forces. They get along but only just.

Pierre's secret stash is not porn, but Money. He keeps a rather large sum of gold tucked away from his family "just in case".

Shane and Alex hang out and talk about gridball more than you would think. In fact, Alex is one of the very few people Shane likes.

Claire (the cashier from Joja) hates Morris. She hates working for Joja. She hates the fact that they're causing problems in the valley. She wishes she could just own her own business here some day. And she does. When the Junimos restore the Joja building into the movie theatre, she gets a mysterious letter in the mail that says "Come bak tu valley, muvee plase is yours" (Junimos had to ask hat mouse to write it)

What if one of the Villagers of Stardew Valley ate a Stardrop?

The Stardrop is able to increase the player's maximum energy, but what if one of the villagers were to receive the Stardrop instead? Perhaps it was a gift from the Farmer on the Feast of the Winter Star. Perchance it was found in the crater of a fallen star. Who knows?

Either way, the villagers of Pelican Town may not be as... equipped to handle the powers of the Stardrop as much as the Farmer is. I think that the effects could be quite disastrous. Just imagine, what if Vincent got his hands on one?

Upon scoffing it down, he's immediately charged with more energy than a bull on steroids, his limbs are twitching from the power surging through him and his brain is working overtime to keep up with his body. He's going to go fucking apeshit.

Jodi wakes up early one morning and he's just fucking climbing the walls like a demented Spiderman, hissing and screaming while holding on with his fingertips and toes. After hours of this little gremlin crawling over absolutely everything, he finally remembers how doors work and scurries out into the sunlight. Jodi, wrung out and exhausted, can't do anything about it. Finally, having a moment of silence, goes back to bed. Sam, oblivious to everything that had happened thanks to noise cancelling headphones, is inexplicably confused to find footprints on the ceiling when he walks out for breakfast.

Vincent meanwhile, is just becoming a menace to society. Later, Lewis recorded a total of 9 broken windows, 2 counts of breaking and entering, theft (does eating Evelyn's old photos count as theft?), 14 acts of vandalism and grand theft auto. He's unstoppable. Climbing from rooftop to rooftop like Santa on crack, for an entire day, the people of Pelican Town could do nothing but hide in fear while he destroyed and looted the town. The word 'booger' was scrawled on the outside of the Saloon in a suspicious liquid that looked a lot like blood. Alex's dog was spray painted pink. The toilet from the General Store was sitting in the fountain. But it was nothing compared to Joja Mart.

Joja Mart had become a warzone. Vincent had hit it, and he had hit it hard. Food was scattered everywhere. The shelves had been tipped over and thrown about. Chaos reigned supreme. Morris squatted in his little cubicle, trapped by hundreds of cans of Joja Cola. The poor employees had taken off, thankful for the break.

Eventually, however, something had to be done. Vincent had stolen Lewis's pickup and was tearing off down the potholed highway at a hundred miles an hour. It was only a matter of time before he decided the other cars were in his way and caused an incident so large it made headlines nationally. Jodi and Lewis turned to the only person who might be able to help them: the Farmer.

And so, at 11pm on a cold winter's evening, the Farmer teleported to the Calico Desert, stimmed up from a triple shot expresso and feeling nothing but simmering rage. This was their one day off for the entire freaking year and Vincent had decided that it was the perfect time to become a fallen god. Just their luck. In the distance, they could spot the headlights getting closer and closer at a scarily rapid pace. Vincent was barely awake at this point; whatever made the Stardrop so potent had token over his brain, dissolving his consciousness into a frenzied ball of childish ambition.

The Farmer pulled out a hammer of ungodly size, bristling with so much demonic energy it was literally humming with power, and in one swift motion, launched into the air, twisted their body around for maximum force and fucking pounded that shit into the bonnet of Lewis's pickup. The car went from 140 to 0 in an instant, throwing Vincent through the windshield. He was yeeted down the road like a meat-filled ragdoll, bouncing along, leaving bloody splotches every few metres. The Farmer threw them over one shoulder and hauling him like the wet sack of meat he is, teleported back to the Valley.

And so, that was how the Farmer found themselves in Rasmodius's basement at 1 in the morning, watching as an exorcism was performed on the little boy. There was lots of screaming, ritualistic chanting and levitation, but with some luck, plenty of caffeine and a little bit of divine intervention, Vincent was back to normal.

At the next Feast of the Winter Star, the Farmer got Vincent a sack of coal. Vincent asked the Farmer why, had he been bad that year? The Farmer proceeded to sock him in the head with the bag, sending him flying. It was quite reminiscent of his body flopping along the highway, and the Farmer found it quite therapeutic.

The Gilligan Family

The future family of Numbuh 5 and Numbuh 2 (Going Clockwise: Abigail, Hoagie, Hogarth III, Homer and Jodie)

Hogarth Pennywhistle Gilligan III

Hoagie and Abby’s eldest son. A teenager whose presence is mostly seen through the shambles of mess and food he leaves around the house. When he is around, he can usually be heard complaining.

- 14 years old

- He’s always either at the mall or at school, so he’s not often home. Even when he is around, his face is always hidden

- Named for his grandfather. To carry on his spirit

- Was given his mother’s hat when he was younger. He doesn’t wear it anymore but keeps it hanging on his room door.

- Despite being a teenager, he’s still quite civil to his brother and is pretty harmless. Sector V still keeps him (or at least his room) under surveillance though.

Homer Thomas Gilligan (Numbuh 7)

The Writing Operative and 2x4 technology officer of the current Sector V. Loyal, hardworking and a little awkward, Homer often acts as a support to the team in many ways. Whether in battle, missions or off duty, he’s a capable presence who always comes through for them.

- 10 years old

- His middle name, Thomas, is a nod to his uncle.

- His code number is a reference to Cree Summer’s (voice of Numbuh 5) comment that if she was in the KND, she’d pick 7 as her number.

- He is said to be a great storyteller and does the daily logs for Sector V, hence his role as Writing Operative. He often puts his own twist on it of course, dabbling in a few writing genres

- He wishes to invent more original 2x4 technology items instead of following existing blueprints, but his inventions always end up exploding. The only successful thing he made is Roku’s signature weapon.

Jodie Gilligan

Hoagie and Abby’s daughter. Hogarth III and Homer’s little sister. A very cheery and giggly baby.

- 11 months old

- Her name is Hebrew in origin, an allusion to the Gilligans’ Jewish heritage

- She is very attracted to candy, despite not being old enough to eat it yet (her teeth haven’t come in). Can get EXTREMELY aggravated if she finds candy and someone takes it from her

- Shows quite good mobility for a baby, being able to quickly sneak up on people and climb on high-ish surfaces

- Is probably the only one that happily laughs at her father’s jokes

Abigail Gilligan née Lincoln

Part-time Teacher at McClintock High School and Full-Time mom, Abi still manages to find a way to maintain her laid-back cool attitude through it all. When she’s not grading papers, or getting gum out of her kids’ hair, she often spends her time reading or painting.

- 38 years old

- Secretly still a KND member with the rest of Sector V.

- Was in Wally’s band as the keyboardist in their high school days

- Often goes to ice cream parlours, soda fountains and candy stores with Hoagie on dates to sample the flavours.

- Splits the house duties with Hoagie. As she tells the kids: “Your dad cooks, I do the taxes and whoever loses at thumb wrestling has to clean.”

Hoagie P. Gilligan Jr

A pilot at the airport, he opted to work on short-haul flights so he wouldn’t be away from his family so much. Fun-loving and jovial, he dotes on his wife and tries to be a cool dad to his kids (despite the bad jokes he keeps telling)

- 37 years old

- Secretly still a KND member with the rest of Sector V.

- Is close with his son Homer. They usually spend time building stuff in the garage together. Both are still trying to figure out why Homer’s inventions always end up exploding

- His penchant for telling his bad jokes has only gotten worse over the years, but he says that he now has a right as a dad to say them.

- Only started dating Abby in their early 20s and got married a few years later

Layla added a quiet place to study to her extensive list of the things she missed about living with Jody. The comforting silence of the living room while Jody read beside her was perfect for her concentration. The warmth and comfort was so calming for a mind at work.

By comparison, the library was too cold. It was quite busy today as many prepared for tests before winter break. Each chair had already been claimed by another student. It look three passes for Layla to be sure there was no room for her before she abandoned hope. She hated the idea of studying in the even colder slave study room under the Delecaille House.

Layla finally settled on enjoying the sunshine while she could and found a spot in the Quad. There came her next distraction. Open as it was, Layla's eyes kept wandering to the dancing satyr fountain spurting water. Before she knew it she'd begun doodling the satyr dancing with a familiar pet dog who'd just left the island.

This wasn't helping her classes. She had to focus. Layla tore out the page and placed it to the side. She tried to renew her attempts to study, unaware of the wind taking her page off the table.
