7kpp week: Letters
yes, this is technically the prompt for day 3, but I need a little more time to finish the prompt for today, and this one is done, so I'm switching them up and sharing a letter Elisabeth may have given to Hamin. A flowery shovel talk if you will. I usually imagine that she still invites Hamin to spend time with her on date day, for the sole purpose of giving him a shovel talk about Noah, which Hamin is far too amused about for his own good.
Yes Elisabeth is my ethical, compassionate, noble character. Her bark is worse than her bite. Mostly. Just don't hurt her brother and you should be fine!
And because tumblr kills images like that's its job, the text:
Dear Pirate Prince Hamin,
Thank you for agreeing to meet with me on the coming Fireday. I am sure you would much rather spend the time finding mischief with my dear brother and he likewise. However, it is on my brother's behalf that I have requested a meeting and am writing this note.
You seem to like Noah very much, which is good because he deserves happiness, and besides he is ridiculously besotted with you. If I have to hear about any of your apparently numerous good qualities one more time, I may take to wearing earmuffs, which would be difficult as I do not have any, and it is quite the wrong season for them. I digress.
My brother is the kind of person who devotes himself fully to his partners, whether a formal arrangement has been made or not. Some people, in the past, have taken advantage of his affections and soft-hearted nature, but he has continued to make connections in a pursuit of happiness despite this.
I certainly hope you are as genuine in your affections as you seem to be. If you are simply toying with Noah, I must insist you stop immediately. I shall remind you that our family is well known for the study of botany, and while Noah may be forgiving, I am not. There are several plants in the gardens here that would make the rest of your time at the Summit rather uncomfortable should they find their way into your belongings.
If you are sincere, though, I shall be the first one, other than Noah of course, to welcome you to the family.
Sincerely,
Elisabeth

We'll post this here as well as in the 7KPP fan community (please message me if you want me to add you!)!
We're down to a week before early access is out! To have a countdown and to have some discussion to make the time go faster, we're going to be posting some prompts!
And because we have polls, I figured I might as well add a poll and keep it going until early access is out!
Looking forward to screaming with everyone! (We'll have to implement a spoilers policy soon, I think.)
6 days left!

21. "We've done worse"
Fandom - Seven Kingdoms: The Princess Problem/7KPP Content warnings - none Summary - Penelope stumbles upon the Jiyel lady in one of her hobbies. An art lesson ensues. [A/N: This doubles up as well for day 2 of 7KPP Week 2024: Date Night!]
“Oh, Octavia, that’s so beautiful!”
The lady of Jiyel blinks before looking towards the voice. Princess Penelope looks over her shoulder with a look of awe; she’s paused with brush in hand, hovering mid-stroke over a half-finished painting.
“I didn’t know you were such a talented painter!”
Octavia internally feels herself curling inwards as a shyness slowly takes over her. She’s never considered herself a bashful kind of person, but painting has always felt more personal, something she likes keeping more to herself. She’d come out here to destress, a rarity in the tight, stacked schedule of events she’d been thrown into since coming to the summit.
“Oh, this?” She looks down at her half finished work. It’s a black and white inking of the landscape, filled with winding brushstrokes in a recognizably Jiyelan style. “I wouldn’t say I’m that talented, and I started this on a lark but… Thank you, Penelope. That’s very kind of you to say.”
The princess’s eyes continue to shine with admiration as she examines the rest of the piece. Octavia doesn’t know what to do: should she ignore her and simply continue her work? Would that be rude? She’s not used to being watched like this, even in the presence of the lovely and well-tempered princess.
“You’re incredible, Octavia. You’re so intelligent and capable, and you’re a wonderful artist. What beautiful brushwork!” Penelope sighs dreamily. “I wish I could paint as well as you could. They don’t teach that in Wellin.”
“Well, would you care to learn?”
The idea comes to Octavia suddenly and without much consideration, quite unlike her usual methods. She can’t explain why she gives in to such an impulsive thought so easily; before, even social calls were things she devoted time to deliberate no matter how small. Perhaps it’s simply Penelope’s natural charm that’s lowered her guard, or she’s changed more than she thought since coming to the summit.
“Oh, I don’t know,” the princess fidgets. “I don’t think I’d be very good at it, and I hardly want to waste your time giving me a lesson…”
Octavia shrugs with a smile. “Who said you needed to be good? I assure you, Your Highness, that when I picked up a brush for the first time, I hardly knew what I was doing either. It would be no trouble for me, I promise. Just a bit of fun, really.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive!”
They agree on a time, and after the princess leaves, Octavia is suddenly left wondering how she ended up becoming an impromptu art teacher.
When next they meet, it’s on a private balcony overlooking another scenic view on the isle. Octavia waits patiently as she sits at her table. There’s another table next to her, meant for Penelope, both set with blank parchment, ink stones, and fresh brushes.
She’s surprisingly nervous, something she’s not used to. The scholar has learned to project confidence in most of her endeavors, whether she felt truly worthy of it or not. Debates, academic pursuits, so much of it all is a matter of putting on a strong face, and she’s been doing it for so long that it’s not even much of a front anymore.
But her art has always been a more delicate affair, and at the last moment Octavia panics, wondering if this was such a good idea after all. Maybe she shouldn’t be doing this. What if last time had been a fluke? Perhaps Penelope had simply made a mistake and something got caught in her eye. Maybe—
Her thought spiraling is interrupted when Penelope’s butler approaches with the Wellin princess cheerfully in tow. Her merriness is infectious and dispels Octavia’s doubts as she excitedly takes her seat.
“Good morning, Octavia! I will admit, I was so excited about our plans today I hardly slept last night,” she admits. “I suppose I was just nervous that maybe I’d embarrass myself but… I’m willing to try!”
“You have nothing to fear, Penelope. If anything, my ability to teach is what’s truly being tested here. I should be the nervous one; I hardly want to be the one to let you down.”
The princess shakes her head. “No, I can’t imagine. You’re so patient, especially with someone like me. I can’t wait to learn from you.”
Now how could Octavia doubt herself, when Penelope believes in her so? Taking a breath, she begins as best she can, starting with proper brush holding technique. It’s slow work, full of lessons for both of them, but Octavia is quick to adapt, and the princess proves she’s underestimated herself, being a rather quick study. They’re able to move on to actual painting; they quietly work side by side, Penelope’s face tight with concentration as she painstakingly tries to reproduce the techniques she was taught as her companion occasionally gives advice. Octavia eventually learned to loosen up, perfectly content with letting the princess draw whatever she pleases. To no one’s surprise, she’s chosen a flower as her first subject. The young noble can’t help but reminisce as she watches Penelope work, recalling afternoons spent arduously attempting to perfect her strokes, surrounded by crumpled pieces of her failures.
Her own piece gradually comes together. She’s chosen to depict something from memory this time: a mountain range with uniquely shaped peaks, a famous site within Jiyel. Leaving Penelope to her own devices for the time being, her brush gracefully moves across the canvas as she shapes out sharp, craggy mountainsides, the low hanging fog that sits near the base of the mountains. Octavia doesn’t chase perfect recreation or strong realism; she’s always secretly enjoyed that aspect of art, its general inability to be quantified in any meaningful way. There’s little objectivity to be found, no logic that can reasonably be applied. Most people would think this odd, going against her nature, but she enjoys a bit of subjectivity every now and again. Not everything in the universe needed a definitive explanation or analysis; for once, it’s an opportunity to just let her portray how she feels.
She’s so lost in her work that she doesn’t immediately notice how Penelope has abandoned her work in favor of staring over her shoulder. “Amazing,” she whispers.
Octavia is shaken from her thoughts, eliciting several apologies from her companion before she calms her down.
“I’m so sorry, you were just so mesmerizing to watch, I couldn’t help it. Would it be alright if I just watched you for a little while longer?”
“What about your own piece?”
Penelope is bashful when Octavia takes a look. It’s not perfect, obviously a beginner’s work, but something about its simplicity makes her smile.
“I like it! And it’s a good first step. You should sign it with your name; I think you’ve made something worth being proud of.”
The princess, blushing from her praise, is quick so ink her signature in the corner, but her attention quickly returns to her. The noblewoman feels that familiar shyness creep up on her again as she’s being watched, paying more attention than usual to the quality of her strokes.
“Your hand moves with so much purpose,” Penelope observes, in awe. “I suppose that’s what happens when you’re so skilled… But, Octavia, I have a question. Do you always use black ink? Or do you use other colors?”
All of a sudden, she’s uncomfortable. It’s not the first time this has been brought up. She’s tried before, a few times, but for the longest time she never felt she could utilize colored ink in a way that made her work better. Black was simpler to her, more straightforward to use. Aside from some shading, she didn’t need to bother with much more than outlines and shapes. A flower was still a flower after all, whether it was painted purple or pink; what difference could it possibly make? Eventually, she convinced herself that she didn’t need it and was better off.
But she’d be lying if, since coming here, she hadn’t found her art a little lacking in something, and that maybe she should try again.
“I’ve tried. It’s just never been something that fits my style, I suppose.”
Eager to move on, she reaches over to grab something, but she’s agitated. Her hand brushes her inkwell, jostling it enough to knock it over. Both women yelp as dark ink pools across the table; cursing in her mother tongue, Octavia is quick to jump forward to right the well, ripping the parchment away in the process.
“I’m so sorry for my carelessness, Your Highness. You didn’t get anything on your clothes, did you?”
Penelope thankfully is free of any stains, while the scholar managed to escape with only blackened fingers. Her artwork on the other hand is not so lucky; one corner is completely darkened by ink, the rest of it splattered with little dots and streaks. She purses her lips, disappointed.
“Well, we’ve done worse. Or not, I suppose. I thought this one came out rather well, too.”
To her surprise, the princess reaches over and plucks it out of her hands. She gazes at it with a strangely pleased expression. “What are you saying? I think it’s charming. It’s got… character! Yes, that’s the word for it. May I keep this?”
“You want this?”
“Of course! It’s beautiful. And all the extra ink makes it memorable and extra special to me.” Penelope beams. “I could get a painting anywhere, but I’ll never have one that will remind me of a special lesson I got to have with a friend! So… Please, Octavia?”
How could she say no to that face? Realizing that she’s somehow found her first fan in the Wellin princess of all people, Octavia can only smile and shake her head. Picking up her brush once more, she places her signature on the piece.
“Who knows? Perhaps I’ll be well known enough in the future and this will become incredibly valuable in the future,” she jokes.
Penelope vehement shakes her head, not realizing that she jests. “Absolutely not! I could never sell something so precious from a friend.”
Their “lesson” soon comes to an end as the princess’s butler appears to escort her back. They wave goodbye as they part, leaving Octavia and Jasper to clear everything else away. She stares at a used inkstone she picks up, eyeing its dark sheen.
Next time I’ll give you a prettier piece, Penelope. One with color, I promise.

Which MC background do you have the most fun writing?
Hmmm I like them all in different ways.
Hise background was often the most fun because it could be the most silly.
I enjoy the growth arc of sheltered princess
Jiyel scholar is inspired by my mom so will always have a special place in my heart
Widow was the most challenging but turned out better for it
Tomboy countess gets to be rebellious and totally not into anything the game is technically about which can be fun
But if I had to pick I think probably corval court lady wins by a smidge because I like all the people politics and intrigue one of the secret backgrounds might bear it in the end, we will have to see~

Not sure if you actually wanted questions from the character asks but if the spirit moves you (and not asking Objects 4 for Tempy because I don't want to cry about her instruments again): Food & Drink 1 and/or Community 13 and/or Hobbies 7 for Myna, Food & Drink 9 and/or Community 18 for Tempy, Community 10 and/or Mind/Body/Soul 8 for Lia? :D
please pick and choose I know this is too many and you're busy but there are SO MANY GOOD ONES!!
I am always happy to think about my characters, so I WILL DO THEM ALL thank you! <3
Under a cut because I can't shut up whoops.
Myna:
F&D 1. What flavor would your character say their personality is? Probably some sort of sweet and spicy. Hot honey, or something like that? That seems like her vibe. Probably with a wink because she's A Chaotic Entity. (She and Zarad Get Each Other.)
C&R 13. Would your character be good at providing medical assistance? Honestly, she doesn't know a TON but she's good in a crisis and knows basic first aid (you gotta if you spend a lot of time on a boat) so I'd generally say yes.
H&A 7. What is a talent that your character is proud of? Other than defrosting ice princesses and captaining a ship? I think she has a secret skill in embroidery, much like Cordelia, and enjoys having something to do with her hands.
Tempy
(Bonus because I love you: Objects 4. Is there an item your character liked that they can’t get back? Her instruments, yes, though she technically still has them. She just can't--shouldn't--doesn't play them. In terms of something she actually can't get anymore, I think Constance once gave her a small doll. It was a simple thing, starting to fall apart despite Constance's best efforts to fix it, but she's had it since she was born and it was a gift from her older sister and she loved it and when she got too old, her nurses took it away to dispose of it.)
F&D 9. Does your character like to try new foods? Tempy is rather adventurous, so I think she does like it. It DOES take her some time to get used to it, though, because Arlish food is relatively, uh, tame, let's say.
C&R 18. What is your character’s favorite form of affection? She thought it was words of affirmation, because that's the kind of approval she got from her parents and her kingdom, but I think it's actually physical touch. She's quite touchy-feely when she relaxes enough, but that was never appropriate for princesses so she really didn't know how touch-starved she was until she wasn't. :)
Lia
C&R 10. Is there a habit your character has that they learned from someone else? She tugs on her braid when she's thinking, which she got from her parents tugging on her braid gently to get her attention when she was younger. She also hums under her breath sometimes when she's working, which she picked up from her dad.
M/B/S 8. What scents does your character find comforting? The smells of home. She loves the mountainy forests of the lands where she grew up, and the smell of her favorite foods (especially dumplings). Also, of course, the smell of old books. What Jiyel scholar would disagree?
Thank you for asking, ILY!
#Tina rambles.#teaandinanity#Lady Camellia of Jiyel#Princess Temperance of Arland#Lady Myna of Hise#I love my daughters this was very fun thank you!

[Profile] Houki of Jiyel - IkeSen OC
Full Name: Houki of Jiyel Preferred Pronouns: She/Her Age: Early 20s Appearance: short, chubby, stocky figure; long straight black hair (that can appear dark blue in some lighting situations); wears thick round glasses; light-medium skin Eyes: Green
Birthday: September 5th, bday twins with Masamune Main Suitor: Mitsunari Ishida Special Interests: Reading, playing strategy games Signature Colors: Blue and Pink
-Originally a Seven Kingdoms: A Princess Problem Custom MC. The basic premise of the game is you're sending your MC to a summit meeting to form alliances with other countries, whether those alliances can be political or romantic in nature happens through raising their stats. At the beginning, you go through dialogue choices that let you choose your character's base nature, intelligence, how pretty they are perceived, how charismatic they are, etc. Then, you are given a basic background based on the stats your character has the most points in. For Houki, since I put a lot of points into her intelligence, her base background was A Minor Lady with a Scholarly Bent. Her home country is known for producing some of the Seven Kingdom's most intelligent scholars, specialties ranging from literature, art, military tactics, politics, etc.
-Since her home game is still in development hell (RIP) and I didn't want to give up on her, I transplanted her into the world of Ikemen Sengoku, complete with her 7kpp original background, she was just worm-holed across the dimensions.
-Youngest daughter of her family consisting of her parents and her older brother, Seishuku. They are a branch family to a much bigger, complex family.
-Avid book lover, spends most of her day up to her nose in paper and ink. If it wasn’t for regular body functions, she probably would spend the rest of her days just devouring information.
-Because of her passionate love of reading, she tends to be neglectful of other obligations that come with being a noble, like forming alliances and being sociable, much to her mother’s dismay.
-Because of an incident involving her cousin Jiya, Houki is unexpectedly forced to represent her country in the Seven Year Summit Meeting. Seven people from each of the kingdoms are sent to a neutral territory island to form alliances to keep peaceful relations going between the kingdoms, especially important as of late as peaceful relations are starting to deteriorate. She’s not exactly happy about it, but she’s taken an ‘it is what it is’ attitude about it.
-While on the island for the Seven Year Summit, a threatening letter (meant for her cousin) comes to her and she cuts her finger on the paper, sending a slow but deadly poison coursing through her. Since she has no idea who sent that poisoned letter, she doesn't know who she can trust at this summit. Forming alliances means there's also the possibility of someone wanting to break those alliances, after all. She goes about her way seeking information about the poison on her own to see if there was a way to treat it before it eventually kills her.
-Since her home game doesn't have a proper ending at this point in time, this is where I'm handwaving her time at the Summit and have her transported into the world of Ikemen Sengoku via magical wormhole. She formed some friendships (and a rivalry) on the island, but this is where her story going, currently.
-Her course from here follows IkeSen's prologue and Mitsunari’s route. She saves Nobunaga, but passes out after the fact because of the poison still in her, plus smoke inhalation didn't exactly help her condition either. Because of this, she doesn't get the telltale meeting with the Uesugi-Takeda forces or Kennyo as what happens to MC in the original prologue. Where they stand with her will be developed at a later time.
-With Mitsunari, he helps teach her the way of the Sengoku era while falling for each other along the way. Houki learns to be a more responsible person for Mitsunari while she gives him more confidence in himself.
-If Houki doesn’t go back to her own world, she’ll stay with Mitsunari, having one son with him. She takes on the chatelaine role, like MC, learning more than she did back at home as a lady that did little more than read all day.
–Her poisoning is eventually cured but the long term effects are hard on her, especially after having her son. After a certain point, she more often stays either in Azuchi or in Mitsunari's province in Sawayama and doesn't see battle as often anymore, due to her poor health. Nobunaga still enjoys playing Go against her fairly often, thinking her akin to a younger sister.
Some other fun facts:
-She had a cat back in her old home. She's black with green eyes and is quite a lovely lady.
-Her other suitor for consideration (for IkeSen at least): Ieyasu. Both are on the down to earth side and like reading. Ieyasu's sharp tongue can be a little too sharp for her at times however, thus why she prefers Mitsunari over him. They can be friends though.
-She is pretty much blind without her glasses. Her palm has to touch her nose for her to see it clearly sans glasses, that's how much she can't see.
-She is named after the wife of one of my old favorite anime/manga characters, Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi. Her brother is also named after Hotohori's given name, Seishuku.
-Can be technically considered bi-romantic! In her home game, the furthest I could romance one the suitors (before I reached the game's stopping point), Houki was romanced by a warrior princess named Anaele who was only really at the Summit for the free food and to look at all the pretty girls. Anaele repeatedly came to Houki's defense and was ready to kick any dude's ass that so much as looked at a lady wrong. She also taught Houki her first self-defense lessons (to keep these stinky lords from whisking her away when she didn't want to whisked away) and, on the romance path, she was going to forge a sister blade to her own dagger and name it after Houki, in her honor.

↝ 7kpp week day 2: Family
The Lingho clan of Suey are relatively new nobility, created for the previous magistrate of Suey who had been a scholar of common birth. The current lord of Lingho Manor is his grandson, who lives in the manor with his wife, his parents, his wife's parents, and his four children:
Ulyssa, their eldest daughter, is intense, ambitious and perfectionistic. She is said to be the cleverest of the siblings and their unofficial leader, although her tutors used to despair as she often challenged their teachings. She gained significance in international politics when she attended the Summit as a last-minute replacement for her second cousin.
Paris, their eldest son, is Ulyssa's older twin brother by twelve minutes, although he is happy to take a back seat and defer to her, assuming the role of a foolish sibling to the responsible sibling. This conveniently obscures the fact that he is very intelligent as well, and will rise to the occasion if required.
Jaxon, their youngest son, was born three years after the twins. He is reputed to be sweet-natured and innocent, often worrying his older siblings.
Nestoria, their youngest daughter, was born five years after the twins. She is the baby of the family, but struggles with finding her interests.
it's been a long time hasn't it? during 7kpp week i wanted to share some things about my jiyel mc and her siblings.
none of the images are mine. gif footage was taken from moss and feather on pinterest and the chinese drama song of youth 玉楼春.
ulyssa's sibs have names all inspired by the iliad: ajax for jaxon, nestor for nestoria, and paris...as both an iliad character and the name of a french city (just like lyon) i could not resist

Lady Hong of Jiyel
"I would think that knowing the truth is of utmost important, wouldn't you agree?"
More info on Hong is under the cut
Name: Hong "Red" Yuneol (though no one really calls her by her nickname but Anaele and Kade, Hong doesn't like her nickname anyways)
Age: 24
Birthday: 31 December
Height: 158 cm
Orientation: Cisgender Lesbian Female
Pronouns: She/Her
Clothing Style (Game): Simplistic
Family: Only child, her parents are both alive. Her mother is a housewife, while her father works as a low ranking government official. Despite his rank, he earns enough to give his family a comfortable life as long as they don’t splurge on luxury goods or be extremely wasteful
Hong's actually not on very good terms with her father due to his traditional views towards women and growing expectations of her marrying a man, but she doesn't complain mainly out of respect for her mother (who has been married to him for a quarter-century)
Likes: Anything sweet, Onvu (somewhat)
Dislikes: Anything sour and/or bitter, alcohol
Hobbies: Cloud-watching and stargazing (doesn't do much at the summit because it leaves her in the open and therefore more vulnerable), nature walks with Selena (the countess doesn't listen to her refusals), swimming (more for survival reasons than actual enjoyment), playing Onvu (to gain a deeper understanding of her opponents' personality/strengths/weaknesses)
Personality: Introverted yet still retaining the Jiyelese eloquence, sensibility and logic. Also has a certain charm but how so is beyond her understanding. As such, Hong's fairly persuasive and quick-witted, making her an ideal debate partner (much to her chagrin)
Strongly prefers subtlety, as such her insults will always be subtle (and she'll try her best to make it equivalent a social death). Also prefers studying people over reading romance novels, she suspects that this may very well be one of the major reasons she's so cynical towards romance
Hong's personal nightmare is to be forced to prepare within a tight deadline (AKA the stress dear Jiya gave to her prior to the summit). This doesn't come as a surprise to anyone given the number of methodical Jiyelese scholars in existence
At best, she's misguided (what Selena and Rose believe). At worst, she's immoral (and Hong prefers to be called the latter). To her, the end justifies its means... so as long as the truth is revealed, Hong wouldn’t care what methods were used in the process (unless it's murder, then it’s a no go because she knows that she’s not capable enough to get away scot-free)
She believes that power should be used responsibly, with 'responsibility' defined as 'knowing the truth'. What she does with the truth afterwards is a completely different story though
Her viewpoint towards morals is best described as moral nihilism. This somewhat influences her viewpoint towards life in general, however rather than viewing existence as meaningless, she views it as transient and therefore not really worth expending much effort on. Yet she does so anyways for quite a few things, and the irony isn't lost on her
Weaknesses: Hong's main weakness is that she's very clumsy, to the point that almost everyone wonders how is she still physically fine despite tripping over almost everything (including large tables that are literally in front of her). Hong's painfully aware of this, and the main reason why she's usually able to gather secrets without being noticed is because she's too plain and of average height to stand out in any way
Her second weakness is that she's very traditional, hence it would take great effort from her fellow liberal delegates to break away from tradition
Her third weakness is that she's very particular about following the exact order of steps, and she actually has trouble completing her task if she doesn't follow the order as she's not used to 'thinking out of the box'
Where to find her: No one really knows, though there has been rumours that she spends most of her time in the servants’ quarters, the cliffs, or her own room. The last one's easy to believe but the first two comes as a shock to some (mainly the Arlish/Wellish delegates who think that women found at a secluded place equates to a salacious meeting with men or that mixing with servants was highly improper)
Hong occasionally goes to the library to change the book she usually carries around so as to pretend reading while catching whatever gossip she can find out without being so obvious. Tries to avoid Lyon while she's at the library as she would rather not enter a heated debate over ethics
Initial Stats (No NG+ Boosts): 50 Charm, 50 Eloquence, 25 Beauty, 25 Leadership, 0 Self Defense, 25 Charisma, 75 Manipulation, 25 Courage, 85 Intelligence, 25 Etiquette, 0 Grace, 25 Poise, 0 Cunning, 25 History, 50 Politics, 0 Street Smarts, 0 Warfare, 0 Practical, 35 Academic, 25 People, 0 Flora & Fauna
Game Personality: Noble, Subtle, Sensible, Autonomous, Logical, Cynical, Unassuming, Traditional, Methodical, Immoral
Build:
- Endearing laugh - Market - Political studies - Talk bandits into turning against each other - Didn’t specialise, fast learner at everything - People watching - Preferred talking out of trouble - Gave a few coins - Embarrassed him without getting caught - Found yourself interested in your fellow girls - Married for money - Rousing speech - Politics - Likely maid - Elephants are afraid of being stepped on - Dancing/Moving gracefully - Just fine - Satisfied with fate - More power, more responsibility - Introduce myself (Politely) - Yes, they were experts for a reason - Sensible conclusions - Rather prepare in advance - Make person responsible pay

7kpp week day 1: background
Happy 7kpp week everyone!!
I've been a bit stuck lately, but I REALLY wanted to have at least a few things to share. And I also want to play around with nerd Bro Noah a bit more, so here's a short attempt at writing down the kinds of notes that might be included in a delegate profile for the staff. Technically, he is also a Jiyel scholar, so there's not too much variation in the kind of background information that there would be for him I think. The big difference for them comes to what actually happens at the Summit and the fact that Noah actually did take the placements exams (and scored quite well I think! He's more of a jack of all trades kind of person than Elisabeth with her focused flora and fauna knowledge, though if she had taken the tests, she would also have beat him in history).
Delegate profile: Lord Noah Dai of Jiyel (courtesy title)
Background: As the eldest son, it’s expected by many that he will eventually take on the family’s small holding, and much of his education appears to have been focused in that direction with skills such as land and financial management. The Dai family is a very minor family, bequeathed a title and small estate near the Arlish border as a reward for agricultural research and innovations conducted by Lord Noah’s paternal grandfather a few decades ago. Records do not indicate Lord Noah’s aptitude lays in similar directions, though he scored above average in natural sciences when he took placement exams. Jiyel has sent a summary of his scores along with the nomination for his placement as a delegate (see included notes). His interests appear to lean towards more people oriented skills, as well as an interest in the arts, mathematics, and geography.
Important note: Lord Noah has an ongoing illness. Along with the usual physician’s reports, additional notations about his symptoms and treatment has been sent. No additional comments were made as to his suitability as a candidate despite this, and it seems to be well managed with infrequent episodes. Still, he may require extra monitoring. Staff have been chosen accordingly for him.
Note: Lord Noah’s cousin, Lady Jiya has also been chosen to attend this Summit. Records indicate that the two are acquainted, though their families have been distant since the marriage of Noah’s parents.
Addendum: Lady Jiya will not be attending this Summit owing to a sudden elopement. Lord Noah’s younger sister, Elisabeth is being sent in her stead.

7kpp Week 2019: Day 2 — Worldbuilding and ~The Theatre~
During week 5 we get to be part of a theatrical. Clearly theater (or theatre if you are British/feeling fancy) is an important part of the seven nations and I have put too much thought into what that means.
Jiyel
Scholars differ on whether Jiyel or Revaire has the longest theatrical tradition, but no one questions that Jiyelese theater is an ancient and varied art that takes a very different form than it does in any of the other nations. The following are just a few examples of Jiyelese traditions as there are too many to go over here.
Single-gender Productions
Until the mixing of cultures brought about by the formation of the summits, it was seen as improper for actors of different sexes to share the same stage in Jiyel. While this view is no longer widely held, the tradition of single-gender troupes is such that there are still many active today. In both all-women and all-men troupes, actors are broken into “male roles” and “female roles” based on the gender they tend to play on stage. While there are plenty of members of these single-gender troupes who blend into mainstream Jiyelese society by marrying someone of the opposite sex during their career or after their retirement, it’s something of an open secret that single-gender troupes often provide a relatively safe space for the exploration of non-traditional gender or sexual identities. Some actors or actresses live with each other for their entire lives as partners both on and off the stage.
Busu
Among the common folk of Jiyel, there is a wildly popular form of theater known as busu which makes use of stock characters, exaggerated and formulaic motions, and slapstick to tell comedic stories. While commonly looked down upon by those of the upper class, busu productions are often more than meets the eye and will hide biting social commentary behind their simple plot lines.*
*This is based on kyogen, which is great and more people should know about it and maybe I will talk about it sometime when I’m not very tired from my job.
Arland
Theater is not viewed as favorably in Arland as it is in the other nations, but even Arland has its unique theatrical traditions.
Tableau Vivant
In general, it is viewed as vulgar to take up a living as an actor or actress in Arland, but drama-based games are still a popular pastime among the nobility and are often featured at parties. Of particular note is the creation of tableaux, which involve dressing up and posing to make scenes from famous paintings, literature, or history.
Nude Tableaux
But tableaux have a more ribald side only seen at the most scandalous of parties. They aren’t commonly spoken in polite society and certainly the princess would have never heard of them, but there’s talk of tableaux featuring costumes that barely qualify as such with only the gauziest of fabrics placed in strategic places. Not that you would know about it, of course. Those are for other people.

Yuletide 2024 Nominations!
Hello, my dears!
It's the time of year again to nominate the 7KPP characters for Yuletide! For those who are unfamiliar, Yuletide is a yearly fanfiction gift exchange for small fandoms (fewer than 1000 works in English) on AO3, where the fandoms and characters that can be requested are nominated by users. You can find more information about it on the AO3 collection or on their Dreamwidth.
Nominations are currently open, for both fandoms and for characters. 7KPP will definitely be nominated but individual characters to request will also need to be nominated, so we're putting together a list to keep track of which characters have already been nominated, and who we have yet to nominate!
Note that you do not have to participate in the gift exchange itself to nominate, though you do have to have an AO3 account! You also do not have to nominate to participate, so if you're interested in the future, please feel free to hop in and join the fun!
Nominations are open through September 20 at 9 am UTC!
Please reply/reblog this post/message me to let me know who you are nominating and I will update the post accordingly so we can keep as careful track as we can! Also, people who don't have AO3 accounts who want to suggest additional characters to add to the list who I may have forgotten are welcome to!
Much love to everyone, and I'm sorry for the long absence! We will hopefully get an announcement about 7KPP Week out soon!
-Mod Tina

24. "You didn't do anything wrong"
Fandom - Seven Kingdoms: The Princess Problem/7KPP Content warnings - fire, imagery of fire Summary - A secret the Jiyel scholar keeps begins to haunt her during her time at the summit [A/N - posted in conjunction with 7KPP Week 2024 for day 5: Secrets]
In an empty clearing deep within a secluded forest, Octavia lights a fuse.
Quickly ducking a safe distance away, she waits and carefully observes as the spark gradually reaches a small bundle at the end.
Covering her ears just in time, the bundle erupts with a swift flash, blasting against the large rock it’s deliberately placed near. The clearing feels like like it quakes, and even though she knew it was coming, the force of the reverberations is still enough to make her flinch.
When she looks again, assessing the result, the patch of ground where the bundle once sat is left slightly charred and an acrid, chemical odor wafts in the air. The rock, once tall and looming, has most of its face now blown off, reduced to a jagged, misshapen mass.
Octavia jots down some notes as she walks toward the destruction. She notes all observations, already running more preemptive calculations in her head as she considers future experiments.
“It seems we are still on track then.”
In her evaluations, she almost forgot she had company. A figure steps forward, having remained a safe distance from the blast radius until just now. They bear the formal robes of a high ranking government official, their eyes bearing down on her with a stony yet greedy coldness she wishes she was used to by now.
“Everything is running within expectations, yes,” she agrees. “Now that we’ve confirmed the stability of the compounds, I should be able to provide a refinement to the formula.”
The official nods curtly. “That is acceptable. Given your success, I will make sure to forward an extra to your advance in the coming weeks. Send a copy of your notes along with the messenger when they deliver.”
All standard procedure, all things she’s heard countless times before. She bites back her tongue, resisting the temptation to shoo them away so she can just work. The constant overbearing surveillance has grown tiresome over time; all of them have done nothing to warrant any level of suspicion, fastidiously covering their tracks so no one suspects her family of what they’re researching, save for the people who asked it of them themselves.
She understands why, of course. If something like this somehow slipped out beyond Jiyel’s borders, it would spell disaster for the country. None of the other six kingdoms need to know that Jiyel is in the middle of developing a weapon of war, one that could possibly hoist them to highest of military height in all the land. To be honest, Octavia is skeptical that, even if someone did find out, there was anyone outside the nation who’s capable enough to develop a countermeasure. Not with what she’s been cooking up.
Without so much of a farewell, the official stalks away, reminding her for the umpteenth time to clear away any evidence before she leaves. She rolls her eyes once they’re out of sight yet reluctantly obeys as she carefully clears away the remnants of the experiment. There’s little to be done about the destroyed rock face, but they’re in enough of a remote area—the noise has always been the bigger worry, and accounted for—that she doesn’t worry about it as much, choosing to simply cover it with the surrounding brush.
When she’s finished, she clutches her notes tightly to her chest as she begins the journey home. She’ll make her mark, she swears. She’ll prove to everyone what she can do.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Octavia’s body is tense, strung like a taut wire that’s ready to snap at any moment.
The words from the letter she received this morning continue to ring in her head, like an alarm that grows in volume as danger slowly approaches.
“Remember your commitments to your kingdom. Regardless of the outcome of this summit, you are expected to continue your work upon your return. Funding continues, but without progressive results there is no guarantee this will always be the case.”
It actually angers her, the subtle way they assume she will be available when her time at the isle is done, that there will still even be a need for what she was working on. Is top brass truly that pessimistic about the prospect of peace? Or, the most terrifying possibility, do they simply not care, not when they have the chance to pursue greater power?
She can’t help but cringe when she’s reminded of how she was before coming to the summit, how she used to think. So sheltered from the rest of the world, so apathetic towards the hearts of others. She used to want glory, she used to want to show people that she could. She wanted to join her distant ancestors and have her name engraved with theirs as one to remember through the ages, as one of the greatest minds of her generation.
And then she came here, and realized that if she continued, she would be remembered as an architect of destruction and death.
Even well into the night, her thoughts are preoccupied as Ria comes into her room, stopping by for some last minute cleanup before the lady would retire. Octavia wanders around the edges of the room to stay out of her maid’s way, unable to make any conversation with such a dark cloud over her thoughts.
She has to find a way out of this. She has to find a way to escape the impending crash that would be her ill-gotten legacy, and somehow safely take her family with her. And she can’t wait until she’s done with her time here to start.
I can’t do this anymore. I can’t do this to them. To everyone.
It’s so late, and the weight of all she needs to do, her duties and goals here at the summit as well as her personal matters, sits so heavily on her shoulders she feels she might collapse onto the ground right then and there. She’s just barely awake when Ria finally finishes.
“There we go! All done. Thank you again for letting me do this so late, Lady Octavia. I’m sure you’re exhausted; I’ll be sure to get out of your hair now.”
She nonchalantly waves a hand as she crosses the room, absentmindedly reaching for the oil lamp on her desk. “It’s fine, Ria, Whatever makes your duties easier. I’m happy to accommodate.”
The maid curtsies. “You’re too kind, my lady. Well then, good night. I’ll see you tomorrow morning.”
“Good night, Ria.”
Octavia is already trying to snuff out the light before she’s even out the door. She’s so tired she can barely see through her bleary eyes, and she picks up the lamp to get a better look as she fumbles with getting it unlit.
But while she’s normally adept with her hands, right now she’s too exhausted, too burdened with her plans for the future, and her fingers slip. The glass of the lamp splinters upon impact; oil scatters across the various papers she has laying across the desk, and the match catches.
Small flames burst from the oily papers, and Octavia jumps back with a yelp. Ria whips her head around and runs back with a small cry, her eyes frantic as she attempts to find a way to extinguish the flame. The need for sleep is scattered away; in a desperate burst of inspiration, she grabs some heavy cloth sitting nearby and slams its large mass onto the fire in an attempt to smother it.
Luckily enough, the tiny blaze cannot continue under so much weight, and the women are left with heaving chests as a small stream of smoke manages to billow out from underneath the cloth, filling the room with a faint smoky smell. Octavia, heart beating frantically in her chest, staggers back with a loud exhale.
“Oh, Ria, I’m so sorry,” she apologizes. “I was so careless and made a mess when you already cleaned up… I’ve probably scared you witless just now too. Go ahead and go to bed; I’ll take care of this.”
The maid vehemently shakes her head. “No, you didn’t do anything wrong, Lady Octavia! Why don’t I just clear this away for now, and I can finish the rest tomorrow?”
She tries to protest, but for once she’s not strong enough to argue more. Ria clears the desk of the singed paper and haphazardly tries to mop up as much oil as she can with the heavy cloth before hauling it away. After so much activity, Octavia can finally slip into bed, barely able to crawl under the covers before she falls unconscious.
Yet her rest is far from peaceful, as the memory of the flames permeate her dreams like a plague, growing and raging while wails of pain and sorrow resonate around her, until she’s left with nothing in her hands but the ashes of her legacy.

7KPP Week 2022: Day 4
Day Four - Fashion
Today’s post is basically just a snapshot of Lia’s closet. While she does have more... Arlish inspired clothing, many of her favorites and nicest dresses, the ones that she brings with her to the Summit, consist of more traditional Jiyelese hanfu. The simplest, pictured at the top, are what she is accustomed to wearing back home or when working or studying. The ones with more flowy lines and elaborate embroidery are saved for when she wants to make an impression (such as the one inspiring the previous Fashion post I made for 7KPP Week). And finaly, the last is what she might wear to her future wedding.
Yes, I was just really lazy today. Images taken from pinterest.
And because I can, two bonus images that don’t really fit the same theme under the cut:
Because I love these two pictures from my pinterest board for Camyon, I had to share them. First, an image evocative of Lia and their daughter, Lily.
Second, an image resembling Lily, now the older sister to a set of twins, Conan (reminiscent of the boy featured here) and Caden.
Because it occurs to me that I am not really planning on introducing the children at all this 7KPP Week so I thought I’d throw them in here, while I’m sharing an unreasonable number of images anyway.

For the headcanon meme for your 7kpp MC's! ☾ (sleep), ☆ (happy), and/ or ♦ (quirks/hobbies)
I have two MCs who are incurable night owls: Marguerite and Yaling. For quite different reasons.
☾ - Marguerite (of Corval)
Marguerite is a quintessential party girl. She’s pretty, popular and fashionable, and her weapons are gossip and intrigue. It’s the perfect theater for her to perform in. Of course, parties like that tend to run quite late, all night as often or not. At least, the events all the most fashionable young people at court attend do. The kind of events where people tend to get drunk and indiscreet. A wonderful place to collect information, and weed out the weak and incautious, those who don’t have what it takes to survive at court. Marguerite attends (and throws) parties like these often, sometimes every night for weeks through. As young aristocrats, of course, they’re not usually required to be anywhere the next morning, and certainly none of them work for a living. Her usual breakfast hour is around noon, and even that often amounts to less than eight hours a night. But she’s better informed on goings on in the inner court than almost anyone, short of the Emperor’s actual hired spies. And maybe Zarad.
☾ - Yaling (of Jiyel)
Yaling also favors the night life, and part of it is because she’s a lively extrovert who’s quite popular with a certain crowd, very much like Marguerite in a way. Except that Yaling’s social circle has always revolved around the university. Sure, they’re mostly young nobility, and they love to drink and party as much as the next person. But they’re also academics and thinkers (at least in their own minds), and rebels (primarily in their own minds). At Marguerite’s parties people eat and drink, dance and gossip and flirt. At Yaling’s parties… well, they do all of that, but they also debate. Philosophy, politics, art… often, arguing just for its own sake, with the kind of philosophical detachment of glib intellectuals who are not affected by the policies they suggest.
A debate between smug, arrogant young scholars, each of them adamant to prove that they are right and everyone else is wrong, is bound to run into the wee hours of the morning. Especially when social status very often depends, not so much on the quality of your arguments, but on maintaining the appearance of being right. This is fine by Yaling. There’s no love lost between her and daylight. Did I mention she has albinism? I think I only mentioned it in fanfic, never in any of my meta posts. But yeah, it runs in her mother’s family, and as much as she prefers to conceal it, it does still affect her physically. And an aversion to sunlight is part of that.
☆ - Yaling
A happy headcanon? Or a headcanon about happiness? Because I could get real meta up in here about some of my kids…
Fine, fine. Here’s some of the best parts of Yaling’s backstory, since I was just writing about her. I thought I had posted about it before, but I guess I haven’t.
Yaling’s parents are divorced. Yes, this is a happy headcanon. They made each other miserable, although they both loved her very much. After about a decade of trying to make it work, her mother decided that she wanted to live openly as a lesbian. Her father was first stunned and, yes, angry, but he came around when he realized that the divorce would allow them both to pursue a life that let them each be happy. They still co-parent and they’re event sort of friends, even though they run in wildly different social circles. Divorce is rare in their world, and amicable divorce almost unheard of. Sometimes people gossip about her family situation, or look at her with pity, but Yaling has always felt that they set her a good example for pursuing what she wants with zeal and energy.
So they really have no one to blame but themselves, when they find out that she’s run off to marry a pirate prince.
♦ - assorted characters
I couldn’t pick just one.
Periwinkle likes long walks and is an amateur botanist. She even does pressed flower art, sometimes, although she’s self-conscious about it and doesn’t like to show it to people, because she feels it’s imperfect.
I actually write a great deal about Verity’s hobbies in D&F: I have her drawing and sketching, she does a lot of reading, she plays the harp, and she mentions doing poetry recitations (and also that she hated it). And Onvu, of course.
Most of them play Onvu, to some extent or another. Marguerite is a notable exception. Jack inherited an heirloom Onvu set from her paternal grandfather. Allegra plays using a set that her husband, Quentin left her. Periwinkle never had a set of her own, but that’s because her family owns several sets, scattered around the family home, and no one has ever claimed ownership of any particular set. Christabel has a set that her father, Gabriel carved out of driftwood and hand-painted, as a gift for her sixteenth birthday. Claude bought and paid for his own board and pieces as a point of pride. Yaling has received several as gifts, over the years, but most of them were from would-be suitors, so she sent them back.
