Paul Dano Pokemon Teams Part 3

I kinda lost steam around this point but! We got some fun Mons to show off.

Joby Taylor: Dark and badass are the main theme when it comes to Joby's Pokemon! Ones to stand on stage and make Snake Trouble look cooler. Is it sad he uses Gothorita as a stand-in for Ellen? Yeah but he refuses to knowledge it.

Keith Gillis: Classic Pokemon make up the base of his team with a Rotum for computers and Purrloin cause he's a cat guy! Whooper is his baby and his face are his Twitch chat emotes.

Nick Flynn: He just seems like a dark type trainer as dark and broody poet.

Brian Wilson: Ugh his team is soft cause he is! I thought two cool water Pokemon would help the beach vibes and Eevee is his therapy pet.

Brian Weatherby: The mattress salesmen has a lot of Pokemon who like to sleep! Loudred is the one who got him beat up for listening to gangster rap.

Rocco: Uhh he's smart so Psychic and he just seems like an ice type guy.

Hank/Sara: Forced to live on an island, maybe the Palcesand is haunted by Manny! But she likes flowers so that's the vibe

David Sweat: He's got only the kinda Pokemon you could catch in prison and ones good for digging. Also his illegally gotten Bastieldon is a good boy.

Uhh this is Jimmy Tree's team. He goes swimming and wants to be a movie star so like Mr.Mime is an actor.

Seth from Looper! He's got some Psychic types and fossil Pokemon as well as the ones from Scarlet and Violet's time paradox!

Dwayne Hoover: Lots of flying types cause he might not be able to fly jet planes but his Pokemon are happy to fly him around!

watched youth. mark kozelek was there which was epic. paul always brings the life story of his characters to a role and I always feel like it makes the stories true. he didn't like being remembered as the guy who played a robot in a popular film so he decided to play a role that would overshadow it, perhaps an overcorrection as he realized he was letting himself be controlled by the desire to be seen as a serious actor. luckily he sees it was a mistake before he goes through with playing hitler. he doesn't want that energy in his life. he wants desire instead of horror and he has the freedom to choose

okay I don't really know how to frame this. but like. funniest way to confirm Dean is Ben's dad is

20 year-old Ben takes a genetics test for fun or whatever, and the results he gets back are just batshit insane. it's like. oh hey. my biological father is a known serial killer who's still on the FBI's most wanted list and has been found or thought dead multiple times. and my uncle. and my grandfather. and my grandmother. and my--

with how little relevance characters often have outside their introduction arc, its genuinely WEIRD how relevant tree constantly is. which is an odd criticism because characters should remain relevant after being established but in warriors it feels like blatant favoritism. i dont even dislike treee and i liked him a lot in tbc but its ODD

Mr. Gas Leak has a very distinct feeling (an odor, if you will) to me. It feels like he became so relevant because people were frustrated that he wasn't doing the Very Special Job they'd invented just for him back in AVoS, so the writing team tried to "respond to criticism" by making him show up all the time.

But like... that wasn't really the heart of the criticism. It wasn't a clamor to bring back Tree specifically. It was frustration that they would set up worldbuilding elements and then forget about them when they became inconvenient.

SkyClan's return, negotiator role, the border guard between the DF and StarClan, voting to oust a leader. We've gotten at least one (sometimes multiple) additions that threaten to shake up the status quo in every modern arc-- and then they're forgotten about or not used to their full potential.

In honesty though, the more he appears, the more I actively dislike him. I thought he was cool at first, I enjoyed the idea that SkyClan was going to bring some new dynamics to the politics at the lake. But every role he's had since his introduction has been insufferable.

I HATED how he absolutely refused to do his job in Squilf's Hope because of personal bias

I can't stand how the Sisters have been willing to help the Clans after their treatment in that book, and the constant narrative derision they get in spite of that

The fact everyone just forgot Tree existed in ASC until Nightheart said something was astonishingly bad writing. If I forgot about a major worldbuilding element like that I would be genuinely embarassed, not cutely lampshading it

Even the way he ended up "helping" when the narrative remembered him was annoying. Like, "Oh right! Having this role just grinds the action to a screeching halt! Instead of the Battle Cats doing Battles, they argue offscreen about things! Wow, this was a terrible idea to begin with!"

There are waaaay worse characters in WC, and I can't bring myself to hate him the same way I hate some others like Gray Wing. But boy, he has found his way down my list of "least liked WC characters."
