I happened on this recording by way of a Tumblr Blast from a  Norman, Oklahoma band Pineapple Willows. They've released a new single, "Rollen."

The lead singer, Dante Frame put up a video on YouTube a couple of years ago a cover of "Holding Back The Years". I was reminded of Jimmy Scott’s renditon and listened to more songs. 

I am always impressed how 'songs can cross borders" and more generally how music defies them. Scott's recording here features Mundell Lowe on guitar. Mundell Lowe was the son of a Baptist minister from Mississippi and yet became a Jazz great.
