"I am obsessed with you. Not in a creepy way." & Jily
Another one? I promise this one is fluffy, since the other version of this prompt was a little sad I decided to give it another shot. The other version is here. The prompt list is here. 205 words! So, my first @jilymicrofics of the year!
"I am obsessed with you,” James said, filling the quiet between his sheets, his finger blindly tracing along the pattern of birthmarks along her ribs. They formed a map in his mind. A magical treasure map that never led him to the same place, though every time he traced a different path he would find a different treasure. Discover a different secret.
Lily’s lashes fluttered against his chest when he said this, her breath tickling his skin while she laughed quietly. “I know,” she informed him, her voice brimming with pride and satisfaction. Her arms wound around him a little tighter as she pulled him close, her lips brushing a kiss to his clavicle.
James could feel the heat of her skin as her thigh hitched up to rest against his hip, enveloping him in her warmth.“ Not in a creepy way," he promised and revelled in the way she giggled, it was a sound of pure joy that filled the space between them.
“Right, nothing creepy here,” Lily teased, he could hear the smile in her voice as well as the suggestion.
He kissed the top of her head with a grin and hummed. “Mhm, only pure and innocent thoughts.”
“Oh, that’s a shame.”

Love, immortal
@jilymicrofics | January 2025 prompt #5: Sonnet | Words: 907
'Write her a love poem already, why don't you?'
James glanced over at Sirius, who was leaning against the grey stone wall along the seaside, cigarette in hand.
'Or a sonnet,' Remus suggested with a small smile. He was the only one who wasn't smoking, on account of his lungs already being in an abysmal state. Technically speaking they shouldn't really smoke around him, on account of his health. Well, James supposed none of them should be smoking on account of their own health either.
'Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate.'
James rolled his eyes. Trust Peter to recite the easiest lines of the most famous sonnet. Sirius' lips twitched slightly as he casually picked up where Peter's memory would likely have failed him.
'Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And Summer's lease hath all too short a date.'
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines, James found himself continuing in his mind, though there is nothing too hot about the sun at present. And often is his gold complexion dimmed. That was certainly true. Though it was no longer summer in Scotland. If summer had ever visited these parts of the island.
'I dunno what you're talking about,' James lied.
'Oh, but you do,' said Sirius as he nodded towards the two people standing a little away from them. James permitted himself another glance at the red-haired girl.
And every fair from fair sometimes declines, By chance, or Nature's changing course, untrimmed.
Was it too much to hope his feelings would decline? He wanted nothing more than for Lily Evans to be what she had always been, Snivellus' unlikely, and almost as annoying, friend.
'Her?' James tried to inject as much disbelief as he could into his question. 'You're out of your mind, mate.'
The bell sounded for class, and James dropped the stub of his cigarette. But neither he nor Sirius made any move to leave, so Remus and Peter didn't either.
Lily and Snape had to pass them to get back into the courtyard, and James was damned if he was going to miss this opportunity to say hi. Merely to annoy Snivellus, naturally.
As she turned towards them, the sun sent an unlikely ray down to greet them, and Lily's auburn hair glowed in the otherwise grey landscape that was the sea, the wall and the sky. Her emerald eyes caught his own for the briefest of moments, and James was sure his heart skipped a beat.
But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st.
She was bloody beautiful, James had to concede that much. Beautiful, and smart, and funny. Snape, who had no sense of humour, would never truly appreciate that side of her. And she was brave, so very brave.
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade, When in eternal lines to Time though grow'st.
Lily could have died, wanting to run in after Snape like that. Going into that cave was dangerous, yet she had fought their teachers to let go of her. Wanting to throw away her life on the off-chance that her friend had survived his stupid adventure. It was why - well, better James than her, and nobody had paid him any attention. Not before it was too late to stop him.
'Alright Evans,' said James as Lily and Snape came past them.
The git had been unhurt, in the end - but for a sprained ankle. But he had been stuck.
'Good to have you back, Potter,' Lily nodded. A small, rational part of James reminded him she was being polite, but a much louder voice was busy celebrating. It was good to have him back. She thought it was good that he was back.
'Sign his cast, will ya?' Sirius asked lazily and drew a black marker from his red and gold blazer.
To James' immense relief - and slight embarrassment - Lily accepted the marker. She took his injured arm gently with her left as she wrote: Thank you! LE
She even added an X.
Snape scowled behind her.
'Bastard,' Sirius muttered as Snape threw James one more loathful look, before leaving with Lily.
'A little gratitude wouldn't go amis,' Remus agreed.
'James nearly died saving that greasy git's life,' said Peter, unnecessarily.
'Fuck him,' Sirius muttered, 'fuck you too for that matter,' Sirius told James. It wasn't the first time. Sirius hadn't quite forgiven James for running after Snape. For risking his own life.
James paid Sirius little attention. As they turned to walk back to class, his gaze kept falling on the words from Lily. The pain, the boredom of the last week, it all seemed worth it, now that he had this eternal proof of her gratitude. The ending of Sonnet 18 came back to him:
So long as man can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
Shaking his head as if to free it from these chains that were his growing feelings for Lily Evans, James put his good arm around Sirius. It was ridiculous, whatever this was. A stupid crush. It certainly wasn't love. He wasn't about to spurt nonsense about eternal love that lived on long after they were all gone from this world. Love wasn't eternal. Only lovesick poets were foolish enough to believe love could ever change the world.
---
Thank you for reading Love, immortal - I always appreciate a kind word or a kudos on AO3 too <3

Oh no...
drabble for @taylorswiftmicrofic january day four prompt: january
100 words, james/lily, rated G, @jilymicrofics
Evergreens. Red on stark white. January looked like Lily.
Spring started the seasons; winter laid you bare. Like Lily, it revealed keen truths.
She glared, green eyes rimmed red, tears glistening.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
James touched her hand.
“No, you’re not.”
“I’m sorry you’re hurt.”
She scoffed, twisted their fingers together.
“You have to follow Alastor.”
“I captured Rosier.”
“What if you die?”
She was so fierce it almost cowed him.
“I’m not—”
“You’re more important.” You are. “I can’t… without you, James. Promise me.”
“I can’t promise to die second, love.”
Nails pierced his palm. She said nothing.

Concussions and interruptions - Harry Potter
summary: You aren't expecting to meet Harry's parents for the first time while you share an intimate moment in the hospital wing after he sustains another quidditch injury. obviously jily is alive and well.. slytherin!reader wc: 1.1k
You looked up at Harry lovingly, pulling your legs up on the bed as you rested your head on his shoulder, reaching up to brush long strands of hair out of his face. Harry scrunched his face up, smiling with his eyes closed as your fingers grazed his skin, before opening them again and returning your gaze. The hospital wing was oddly quiet, especially after such an intense Quidditch game. The day had been long enough, having to endure classes while the entire school hyped itself up for the big match, and Harry inevitably ended up making his day longer thanks to the addition of his new concussion.
You’d waited until Harry’s teammates and friends had all left the hospital wing before taking your place next to him, hand resting atop his. He smelled clean, having showered and changed into a clean t-shirt and sweatpants “It’s a phenomenon how you’re so often the only person injured after a game.” Harry chuckled, squeezing your hand softly “Yeah well your house mates really have it out for me.” You cocked your head to the side, biting your lip. Well, you couldn’t argue with that. “Hey, if you’d been a Slytherin, that wouldn’t be the case.” Harry scoffed at your words, but you continued speaking nonetheless, a grin forming on your face, clueless to the wooden doors of the hospital wing creaking open and the two figures approaching you. “Besides, you look way better in green than red.” Harry raised his eyebrows challengingly, the movement in unison with his father’s just behind you. “Yeah well you look better in red than green.”
You shook your head in disagreement, straightening up on the bed. Harry’s eyes were so focused on you that he hadn’t realised his parents coming to a stop behind you, waiting for their son to notice their obstructed presence. Harry stared at you with adoration, watching closely as you mercilessly tugged at your green tie until it became loose enough to fit around your head. You took Harry’s glasses of with care, putting them in the breast pocket of your shirt while carefully pulling your tie around your boyfriend’s neck. “I’m being serious, look.” Tightening the tie around Harry’s neck, you leaned across him to grab the mirror on his side table, unblocking the two adults behind you from his view. Harry squinted, struggling from the lack of visual aid, but the bright red hair of his mum and strong figure of his dad spoiled the surprise.
“Here.” You huffed, handing the boy the mirror, but only then did you realise his distracted gaze. Turning around on the bed, your jaw dropped, immediately recognising both your boyfriend’s parents, neither of which you’d ever met before. Lily and James stood with locked arms and matching smiles on their faces, looks of fondness on their faces. You felt heat shoot up your neck at the recognition that they’d witnessed your intimate moment, and ducked your head away, distracting yourself by returning Harry’s glasses. Standing up suddenly, you freed space for Harry's parents on the bed. Lily ducked, pressing a kiss to Harry's forehead before sitting next to him, while James stood, watching you closely until he averted his watch to his son, stating "Got a call someone got a concussion." James grinned at Harry, who returned the smile, running a hand through his hair.
Glancing at your feet, you debated on leaving the hospital wing to allow the family some time alone. Your thoughts, however, were interrupted by a hand clasping around your shoulder. Looking up suddenly, you were taking aback by Harry's father, and more so how similar he looked to your boyfriend. "You're right kid, he does look better in green. Now you wanna tell me which of your friends knocked my kid off his broom?" You opened your mouth, turning to Harry in search for an answer, but only finding the kind yet intimidating eyes of his mother, turned back to James. "It was Malfoy." You said quietly, eyes wide in embarrassment. "I'm sorry, I can leave you guys alone." You muttered again, gesturing towards the tall doors.
"Nonsense!" Lily stood from the bed, approaching you while throwing her husband a scolding look. "James you're scaring her!" She whispered, though you're sure it was loud enough for even Harry to hear. "Honestly you're both scaring me." You spoke truthfully, and James barked out a laugh, pointing accusingly at his wife. "No sweetheart," Lily started, placing her hands on your shoulders and guiding you back to Harry's bed. "That's ridiculous, we've heard so many great things about you." Your mouth fell agape as you took your place next to your boyfriend once more, eyes going wide. Your strict pureblooded parents didn't even know about your relationship with Harry. You thought the same went with him. "Oh."
Harry placed his hand over yours, squeezing it tightly. His parents shot each other a confused and somewhat worrisome look. "Y/n's parents wouldn't approve of someone who isn't a slytherin or a pureblood, so they don't know." Lily and James both nodded in understanding, but now they were worried for you. It wasn't as bad as Sirius's parents had been, was it? An awkward silence fell amongst you, and you felt the need to fill it, mumbling "Let me take my tie back." Harry shut his eyes, letting you unfasten your tie from his neck and tying it around yours, occupying yourself with the quick movements which you deliberately slowed down to ponder over the situation.
"I'll give you guys some time alone." You spoke again, leaning down to pick up your bag from its spot on the floor and placing it on your lap. You glanced at Harry, smiling at him, before his hand was wrapping around your tie and pulling you closer to him. You gasped when his lips briefly met yours, feeling the heat creep up to your face, and abruptly stood, strictly avoiding eye contact with either of his parents. "It was nice to meet you!" You squeaked, trotting over to the doors in a rush, clutching the bag on your shoulder tightly.
Harry grinned, eyes glued to the spot where you disappeared between the two doors, before he was brought out of his chance by his mother. "Harry Potter, you are evil." She half-scolded, a smile on her face nonetheless. James took your spot next to Harry on the hospital bed, a wide grin on his face as he said "The girl was already nervous enough to meet us, now I don't think she'll ever be able to face us ever again."
"Yeah she will," Replied Harry, pushing his glasses higher up his nose "Give her a year or two."

i genuinely think that the shift from the old marauders to the new one where every straight ship even the canon and most important one (i.e jily) and that whole jegulus/all the other made up ships that make no sense come from a place of fetish. yall LOVE to turn characters into little stereotypes and that whole constant obsession w homosexuality is not helping any cause. most of view view homosexual/queer relationships as more angsty or interesting in a way that’s so strange to me. ships could follow the most standard plot line but still be considered angsty cus they’re queer and why is that? this fandom has taken such a strange turn.
you are making sexuality such a strong and central point in a character importance more than any other trait of their character. and those head canons just end up erasing the most important things about these characters
james potter was a strong and good man. he developed from his arrogant teenage self into a good man fighting for a good cause. but now you made him into a twink that is in love with a death eater/ a member of the family that abused his best friend all his life. james and sirius’s relationship was a central point of their characters. and james’s love for lily is a central point as well??????
sirius being turned into a overly feminine gay drama queen, even though what WAS important about him was his loyalty his strength and his honor??? but all of that was forgotten. HE CAN BE GAY WITHOUT ERASING HIS ORIGINAL PERSONALITY. stop painting him into a stereotype of a gay man.
regulus black is getting the recognition that is to be given to sirius. his character was not some brave rebel vigilante that fought for justice. he was a pureblood supremacist.he was a deatheater. yes he is important to the story but he was not what you made him.
lily evans is the most important character of the series. she’s the reason it exists. her and james’s love is the center point. but it was pushed away by you people to focus on your strange fetishized view of gay men. this MAJOR character whose love for her son and husband literally MADE the story got cast away as a secondary character.
important topics like sirius’sabusive family, lily and james’s courage and love….was remplaced by ridiculized view of characters
make characters gay cus we don’t know anything about them yes okay that’s why wolf star was a major part of the fandom. but the complete shift of every single characters identity is just bullshit.

A Matter of Standards
@jilymicrofics | Word count: 263
"Your problem, Lily, is that your standards are too high."
Lily sighed, feeling a familiar frustration bubbling up. She was in the common room with Marlene and Mary, both of whom were looking at her with a mix of amusement and exasperation. Earlier that morning, a fifth-year Hufflepuff had nervously asked her to Hogsmeade during breakfast, and she had kindly declined his offer. Her friends had watched the whole scene unfold, and now they were incredulous that she had turned down someone they considered one of the better-looking boys in their year.
"I don't have high standards; I just want the minimum," Lily protested, crossing her arms defensively. Both her friends raised their eyebrows at her, clearly unconvinced. "It's true! I just want someone who knows how to make me laugh, someone who's kind to those around them, someone who's smart and sweet, someone—"
She cut herself off abruptly when a loud noise of things falling to the ground caught her attention. All three of them turned their heads in unison to see James Potter stumbling through the portrait hole, his hands full with a precarious stack of board games, a fluffy pillow tucked under one arm, and a colorful assortment of mismatched socks spilling out of his pockets.
"Alright, Evans?" he called out, trying to play off the disaster he'd just caused with the game boxes, attempting to act as if he were carrying the normal stuff a student did every day.
Lily shook her head in disbelief, hiding her face in her hands. "I—" she sighed deeply. "I want that one."

december jily bingo: scarves and mittens @jilychallenge
"Merlin, what the fuck is that?" Sirius barked a laugh.
James held in his arms a very long scarf and a three mittens where one seemed to have other sewn into it.
"Oh, it came?" Lily beamed, standing up and rushing over to James to get a closer look.
"What on earth is it?" Peter leaned over.
"Well, me and Lily were talking about how annoying it is that we have to hold hands through our gloves at the moment."
"So", Lily carried on for him, "We found this lady that knitted these for us."
"And what is it?" Remus frowned.
"The couples scarf and mittens," James grinned.
Their friends sat in silence, glancing at each other in hopes one of them would think of something to say.
"Well, try it on", Sirius blurted out a moment later.
James and Lily excitedly did just so. They tied the scarf over both their necks, keeping securely in each other's arms. They then put the mittens on. James' left glove and Lily's right one were completely normal. However, the next was one large mitten that both their hands could fit in and hold each other's hands inside the glove.
"That's um. That's something," Remus tried to smile.
"Very nice, it looks good," Peter easily lied.
Sirius snorted, "This is such a terrible idea. You realise you two are going to have to perfectly in unison when walking right? Or the scarf's going to choke you."
James smiled at his best friend, "It's romantic. And we won't have a problem with that."
Lily nodded, "We're perfectly in sync."
"Go on then," Sirius folded his arms.
James and Lily clutched each other's hands and began to walk towards the group. James quickly realised he needed to slow down his long strides to match Lily's pace when the scarf tightened a bit, but he didn’t mind slowing slightly for her.
"See?" Lily smugly smirked, sitting down with James.
"I suppose it suits you two," Sirius hummed.
Lily leaned her head against James shoulder and he squeezed her hand, extremely cosy as they sat closely together, nothing to part them.

fatherly duties (April 25th prompt; Thrill) @jilymicrofics
“You’re staring, Lil.”
Lily startles, nearly knocking James off his feet as she spins around to face him.
“Woah,” he breathes, steadying her with his hands on her shoulders. “Just me.”
Lily frowns up at him, though she can’t completely hide the slight blush that warms her cheeks, noticing his bemused expression. “I wasn’t staring James, I was just—“
“Staring. Yeah.” James interrupts cheekily, giving her his typical lopsided grin.
“Checking.” Lily corrects him, crossing her arms. “I was just checking if he’s alright.”
James’s smirk softens at that, and is replaced by an understanding smile. “Yeah.” he says quietly, looking past her at the door to Harry’s bedroom, which stands slightly ajar. “I was about to do that, though. One of my fatherly duties.”
Lily can’t help but chuckle at his feigned displeased frown. “Oh, is it now?” she asks amusedly. “And what else, may I ask, would those fatherly duties include?”
James presses a finger to his chin, thinking. “Well…there’s telling horribly flat jokes, for one.” he muses, smirking slightly at Lily’s eye roll.
“Hm, they’re called Dad jokes, I think.” she replies, acting as though this conversation was indeed very serious.
James can hardly hold back a laugh. “Yes, yes, exactly those.” he agrees. “Oh! and there’s also, teaching him all the hidden ways around Hogwarts and—“
Lily slaps his chest. “James Potter!” she hisses quietly. “He’s gotten into more than enough trouble on his own, he definitely doesn’t need your encouragement.”
“Alright, alright.” James sighs, but in all honesty, he does agree with Lily. Hearing about Harry‘s many previous escapes has had them both feeling less than thrilled, to say the least.
“Well, I’ve got another one then,” he adds, walking up closer to the door to peak inside the moon lit room — the room that once belonged to Sirius and now hosts his son. “Protecting him, with my life.”
Lily feels her chest constricting with the entirety of the statement. “With our lives.” she corrects him quietly, leaning her head against his shoulder.
She watches Harry’s sleeping face, and tries her best not to think of the last time they’d vowed to do that — and the last time they almost did do that. And she’d do it again, in a heartbeat.
James wraps his arm around her shoulders, kissing the side of her head.
“Merlin, I’d take a hundred curses for that kid,” he says after a minute. Then, with a breathed chuckle. “Although, you know, I’d still prefer not having to bite the grass anytime soon.”
Lily smiles weakly. “You always hated to eat your greens.”
James turns his head to look down at her, an incredulous expression on his handsome face, before he suddenly bursts out laughing. “Wow.” he snorts. “Can’t believe Prefect and Head Girl Lily Evans would ever pull a pun.”
Lily giggles despite herself, reveling in this moment of quiet solitude. “Oh, she’d never,” she replies with mocked disapproval, before her lips tug into a smile. “But Lily Potter certainly would.”
She thinks James’s smile could probably light the entire bloody house. “I love you, Mrs. Potter.” he smiles, like the love struck teenager he hasn’t been in almost seventeen years.
Lily blushes, although she reckons she really shouldn’t anymore, being in her thirties and all. “I love you too, Mr. Potter.”
A slight creak to their right makes them both turn, and Lily’s blush increases, now twinged with a bit of guilt as she’s met with the confused eyes of their son.
“Dunno what’s more worth asking about,” Harry lulls tiredly, blinking against the light in the hallway. “Why you two’ve been standing in front of my bedroom for the past half hour, or what’s gotten you to giggle on about…?”
Lily bites her lip, sparing Harry a sheepish smile. “Sorry, sweetheart,” she replies genuinely. “We didn’t mean to wake you.”
“We’re just checking on you.” James adds, perhaps unnecessarily.
Lily notices the look of confusion on Harry‘s face. “Uh…right,” he replies slowly. “Checking for what?”
“To know you’re okay.” she explains gently.
Harry raises a brow, lips twitching amusedly. “I’m fine,” he chuckles. “I was asleep, you know…not much I could do that you’d have to check on.”
“It’s just a nice change,” James pipes up, clearly wanting to lighten their conversation. “You — sleeping so quietly, not scurrying around, beating your old man at quidditch.”
Harry snorts. “Yeah, well, I could still beat you, even with my eyes closed.” he retorts jokingly.
James gasps in mock appall; „In your dreams!“
Harry snickers, with that same cheeky glint in his eyes which Lily‘s seen plenty of times before, on James. “Yeah, there too.”

Rational, for today's @jilymicrofics
"Together," Remus repeats slowly. "You and Lily are going to Hogsmeade... together."
Remus purses his lips but he doesn't add any comment, his voice barely betraying a hint of amusement. James could always count of him for discretion — a quality that Sirius does not possess.
"So is it a date?"
James chokes, pumpkin juice spilling from his open mouth, face tinting of a deep red. Next to him and looking imensely undisturbed, Lily pats his back calmly.
"Be serious," is all she says.
"Oh, I was. Am. Cannot not be." Sirius is smirking and, unfortunately, far enough that James cannot kick his shin. "Some things just are—like two people going out on a trip, alone, just the two of them... that's usually called a date."
"It's not," Lily replies dignifiedly, even as, under the table, her hand traces James', drawing soft circles on his open palm. "You know we are Heads."
Sirius glances at the badge on James' robes, a familiar frown on his forehead. "As if I could forget."
James breathes again; he can do this silly banter and he knows his well-rehearsed line. "We need to escort the Third Years in their first trip today."
"And you are going together because—"
"It's rational." Lily hesitates for a heartbeat before glancing at James. Her voice softens. "We work better together."
And now her expression cracks for a moment; her sentence was innocent enough that it could mean all the time they spent together as Head Boy and Head Girl, all the plans and shifts, patrolling the halls, watching detentions, or all those infinite meetings that could have been owl mail. But when their eyes meet, James knows she is thinking about later: the innocent then not-so-innocent touches and lingering looks, and, later, the kisses they never pretend were innocent at all.
There is a smile at the corner of her lips now — one that challenges very much their resolution of keeping things low between them until, at least, after this first date — but luckily, no one else seems to notice it. James is quite safe that they've fooled everyone.
That's an illusion that's broken on the narrow street behind the Hog's Head, when loud claps interrupt a kiss that could never be considered innocent.
"You forgot a detail, Padfoot" Peter is saying, smirking. "Two people going out on a trip and making out—that's definitely a date."
"I don't know... Remus, you are the prefect. Snogging other prefects is a requirement?"
"Not that I've been informed."
"Right, or else I might have been more interested in the job."
"No, you wouldn't," James says, recovering his voice.
"Yeah..." Sirius considers it for a moment before winking at them. "So, Evans, remind me of how serious should I be."
"Oh, shut it," she says, sticking her tongue at him and refusing to let go of James' hand, something he is quite content with.
"We are Heads," he says, echoing her words. "After so many hours alone, it was only rational we'd end up snogging."

@jilymicrofics - July 30th - prompt: safe
Not nsfw but there’s the briefest hint to sex
Even though her skin was slick with sweat, Lily held James as close as she possibly could. Her eyes fluttered close as their breaths evened out, matching each other in rhythm as they calmed down. It always ended the same way—James in her arms, their legs entangled, and a sense of calm she’d never felt with anyone else.
“Did I hurt you?” James’ voice made her snap back to reality and she cleared her throat.
“Why would you think that?” She asked.
She felt him shrug. “Dunno. Just…sometimes worry I do too much. Go too fast.”
“I’m usually telling you to go faster, James.”
“I know—“ she could practically feel him blushing. “—I just don’t want to do anything you don’t like. I’dnever forgive myself if I hurt you.” Lily cupped his cheek, making him look up at her through his long, dark lashes. She’d always envied them, he was such a beautiful man.
Lily smiled. “You could never hurt me, James. Ever. I’ve never felt safer than when I’m with you.”
James’ lashes fluttered, and he smiled back at her. “I feel safe with you too, Lils.”

@jilymicrofics - word count: 550
Remus groans, rubbing his red eyes pitifully.
“I didn’t sleep at all last night,” he complains. Lily pats him on the back in consolation.
“Did you stay up daydreaming about that guy?” she asks him teasingly.
“What guy? There is no guy!”
“Then who is it that you’re texting 24/7?” she asks rhetorically, glaring at a stain on the counter. She wipes at it a little harder to compensate. “We both know you’re head over heels for that attractive regular who flirts with you and gave you his number on Tuesday.” She sends him a pointed look, sensing denial. “You drool over his leather jacket and his tattoos and his long hair.”
“Fine.” Remus huffs, crossing his arms. “So there’s a guy.” Lily shakes her head, amused, and watches Remus go to unnecessarily check their supplies.
“Imagine falling for a regular.” She chuckles, putting away the damp dishcloth. Lily snaps back to attention when the bell on the door rings, signifying a customer. He’s tall, glasses half falling off his face, and running a hand through his mess of curls as he approaches her.
“Hi!” he says, beaming at her with the intensity of the sun.
“Hello and welcome to A Latte Work. What can I get for you today?” She tries to drag up the energy to mirror his bright smile but ultimately fails. Is he solar-powered? Lily glances behind him, through the windows, and realises it’s raining. It’s England in January, of course it is.
“Just a latte, please. My name’s James.” He’s the only customer so the name is hardly necessary but she nods anyway and turns to make it for him after he takes out his card to pay, ignoring the knowing wink Remus sends her way from the open closet doorway next to her. She knows this man is exactly her type, and knows that Remus also knows this, but that doesn’t mean she’ll do anything about it. When she hands the coffee over, James fidgets nervously.
“Everything alright?” she asks despite her usual unwillingness to converse with customers and their unasked for criticism.
“I’ve bean thinking,” he says, grinning to himself sheepishly, “if I could espresso my interest in a date without making a mocha-ry of myself.” Lily snorts, her hand going up to cover her amused smile.
“Maybe if you try without the awful puns.” James nods as if he’s on a mission.
“Can I please have your number?”
“Fine.” Lily deliberately does not look Remus’ way, taking out her phone. It’s only when James leaves, taking his enthusiastic fist pumps with him, that she sighs in defeat. “Okay, I was wrong, you were right, blah blah.”
In the midst of Remus’ booming laughter, he wheezes out, “At least he didn’t say ‘if you were ground coffee, you’d be espresso because you’re so fine’ or ‘I’m like caffeine because I can keep you up all night’ to you.”
“Wait, your coffee guy said that?” She joins in with her own laughter. “Well, I guess in one way he did keep you up all night.” Remus rolls his eyes, clearly having given up on defending his lack of sleep. They both know he has insomnia.
“Maybe our coffee guys secretly share a list of ‘coffee shop pick up lines’,” he suggests jokingly.
“Maybe!”

The Devil and His Angel
I jumped straight to promt 31 oops!!
@jilytoberfest Prompt: Unintentional Couples Costume
“Love the costume Evans.” Sirius grinned, a mischievous glint in is eye, “where’d you get the wings?”
Lily tugged at the fake whie feathered wings she’d strapped to her back. The Angel costume had been thrown together rather hastily, the floaty white dress, and glittery makeup borrowed from Doreen were doing their absolute best to convince other party goes she hadn’t remembered about this party last minute.
“Stole it from the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. They had their door decorated as a Pegasus for the Halloween door decoration competition.” She grinned, “I’ll put them back tomorrow morning. Hopefully they won’t notice.”
“Yeah you better hope, ol’ Snogfish takes his office and it’s décor quite seriously.” He said, pulling at the sleeve of his leather jacket. The 50’s getup would have been more convincing if it wasn’t the leather jacket he wore to work every single day.
“Say, what made you think of being an Angel?”
Lily shrugged; it was the only thing she could think of as she had manically pulled clothing from her wardrobe in search of something to wear. Mary took her Halloween parties very seriously, and she was not about to let her think she had forgotten about it.
“I just figured it worked.”
“Really?” He said, that mischievous glint still holding steadfast. “You mean to say you didn’t match with Potter on purpose?”
“Match with Potter— What are you?” She whipped around, following his gaze to wear James Potter stood stood speaking to Remus. A red button down, horns, and small pitchfork completed the look.
“We’re hardly matching!” She hissed, turning back to Sirius, cheeks as red as Potter’s shirt.
“The Devil and his Angel. How fitting.” He sang, tapping her cheek before standing up. “You enjoy the rest of your night Evans, I’ll be sure to let everyone know that you and James just happened to match completely on accident!”
She watched him go, face hot and heart pounding. When she looked back over to where Remus and James stood, she found the later already staring back at her, wide eyed and grinning like the Devil.

Closed curtains and open doors - Remus x Potter!Reader
Summary: Remus and potter!reader still aren't careful enough in hiding their relationship from James. (ft. Jily) more of potter!reader and remus - same au as this one - i'd love you guys to send in requests for this au. warnings: interrupted sex, smut, oral (f!receiving), fingering. 0.7k+ wc
You laid down on your back, curtains closed around the four-poster bed in your dorm, your boyfriend crouched in front of you with a teasing grin on his face. Your knees folded upwards, feet resting on the bed, clad in your white socks as you stared down at Remus with a shy smile, biting down softly on one of your freshly manicured nails. With his hands resting on either side of your thighs, Remus occupied the space between your legs, pressing slow kisses on your inner thighs and your wet slit before lazily licking a strip up your mound. One of your hands weaved itself into his chestnut locks, nails massaging his head as he played around with your cunt, only half intending to do anything more than kiss you there.
"Remmy." You whisper, encouraging your boyfriend to look up at you with a teasing smile "What, sweetheart?" With his eyes occupying your gaze, you didn't notice his hand leaving your thigh to run up and down your slit, emitting a surprised gasp from you. Your hips bucked up unexpectedly, the hand in Remus's hair tightening its grip. Whining, Remus turns his head slightly to dig his teeth into the soft flesh of your thigh, causing you to gasp in return. Your gasp quickly turns into a moan when Remus sinks two fingers into your entrance, beginning to thrust them in and out of you teasingly slowly. "Oh shit." You moan, throwing your head back into your pillow as Remus licks over the sensitive skin of your thigh before making a trail of kisses back to your pussy, where he immediately finds your clit, beginning to suck on it joyously with a hum of satisfaction.
Remus's free hand moves from your thigh to the bed, where you're desperately gripping the sheets, and he places it over yours. You let go of the bedsheets, letting Remus lace his fingers with yours and you glance down at him, only to meet his gaze, where he's making puppy dog eyes at you. His eyes have a glint of mischief in them and you can't look into them for long, face heating up as you shut your eyes tightly, head falling back into the pillow. The steady pump of his fingers inside you has you squeezing around him and you're moaning his name until- *knock knock knock*.
Remus's head shoots away from your cunt at the same time yours lifts from the pillow to look in the direction of the locked door through the bed's curtains. Remus turns to look at you with wide eyes, waiting for your next move as someone calls for you from outside your dorm. Shutting your legs from their recently spread position, you peek outside the curtains, jumping up when continuous loud knocks start up again, the door handle rattling in an attempt to enter the room. Remus pulls the curtain open, watching as you frantically pull your discarded skirt up your naked legs, yelling out "I'm coming!" To whoever's on the other side of that door.
"Is Lily in there!?" At the sound of James's voice, you freeze, hand on the handle. Remus quickly dives back in your bed, shutting the red curtain and listening closely to the conversation you have with your brother - his best friend. The creak of the door is loud when you crack it open, peeking out to meet your brother's eyes. "Hey, uh- Lily's not here." James's eyebrows furrow, his hand making contact with the top of the door, pushing it slightly open. "Why'd it take you so long, what's going on in there?" He questions, taking a step closer to you. Keeping most of your body behind the door, you respond with "I was napping, James." Which he most definitely doesn't believe since he immediately cries "Do you have a boy in here!?"
Instantly, the both of you are pushing the door back in each other's direction, and you scoff "James, you can't come in here!" the same time as your saviour goes "Hey darling, what are you doing up here?" At the sound of Lily's voice, James's attention is stowed away, his hand falling by his side as he greets her, allowing you to finally shut your door closed, turning the lock so that your brother can't enter. When you spin on your heels with a sigh, Remus is already tripping over his feet making his way over to you and pushing you back against the door to press his soft lips to yours, hands already working on getting your skirt off yet again.
"Where were we?"

@jilymicrofics august prompt: soulmate au
( now a wip, follow along on AO3 )
A flicker, a haze – Lily blinked hard, trying to clear her vision as she pedaled down the street she knew like the back of her hand. But now it shifted before her, the houses and trees blurring into a distorted landscape. Her white-knuckled grip on the handlebars as uncertainty crept in. The corner loomed ahead and the bike veered off course, hurtling toward the nearest tree.
The impact knocked the wind out of her, but she remained still, trying to will her sight back to normal. Minutes dragged by as the world around her swam in and out of focus until her vision slowly returned.
When Lily made it back home, she brushed off her father’s concerned look and mumbled, "Wasn’t paying attention," while avoiding his gaze. She swallowed her simmering resentment, only nodding as her mother fussed that they’d taken the training wheels off too soon.
The years that followed were a quiet battle. A drop in her stomach as if she’d missed a step on the stairs, the scent of freshly cut grass drifting through her room when no windows were open, giggles bubbling up unprompted – all these oddities she rejected by building a wall, brick by brick until her mind was strong enough to shut them out.
But the summer before her fifth year at Hogwarts, the wall cracked.
She sat between her mother and sister, the three of them dressed in black and the weight of her father’s absence pressing down on them.
Soft and distant, a voice broke through the fog of her grief. It’ll be okay.
Lily’s breath caught in her throat. She glanced around, her heart hammering in her chest. The voice was familiar, achingly so, and for a moment, she let herself believe it was her father’s. She squeezed her eyes shut, drawing a deep breath and trying to hold onto the sound.
I know you’re hurting. I’m here.
But when she opened her eyes, her father was still gone and the voice was nothing more than a fleeting memory.
And so, Lily drifted through the following months with the world around her muted, as if she were watching her life unfold from behind a pane of glass.
–––
Lily sat in the common room with the warmth from the crackling fire, conjuring melancholy memories of old movies watched under cozy blankets and the sweet smell of cinnamon sugar. She let her gaze drift to the full moon outside the window, glowing against the dark sky. A sense of calm settled over her, a rare and welcomed stillness in her mind.
But just as her thoughts began to quiet, her heart jolted into a frantic rhythm.
My bad , a voice shouted, distant but unmistakably real. I got way too close right then.
Lily’s head snapped around, her eyes scanning the room. But it was just Mary sitting nearby, nose buried in parchment.
Before she could rise to investigate, rhythmic thudding echoed in her ears mimicking the wild pounding in her chest, like hooves striking the earth with relentless speed. A sharp gust of cold night air brushed against her cheeks, and the scent of damp, trampled grass filled her senses. Her body pitched forward as if yanked by an invisible force, and suddenly, the roar of rushing water filled her ears. Fear and exhilaration coursed through her until it was overpowered by a bone-chilling cold.
Her body began to tremble uncontrollably, her teeth chattering as she wrapped her arms around herself, desperate to recapture the warmth from before.
Lily?” Mary rushed to her side. “What’s wrong?”
“C-c-cold,” Lily stammered, her voice barely audible.
“A fever? Suddenly?” Mary’s voice was heavy with confusion, but she quickly grabbed a blanket, wrapping it tightly around Lily as she hurried her out of Gryffindor Tower.
The journey to the infirmary was a blur of shivering steps. It took hours of various warming potions before the intense cold began to release its grip on her. Finally, as the early morning light filtered into the room, she drifted asleep.
In her dreams, the world shifted in colors and shadows. She found herself standing at the edge of a still lake.
Lily’s foot sank into the damp earth as she stepped closer to the water’s edge. The lake mirrored the starry sky above, but something else caught her eye – a shape in the reflection. Strong and large, it stood with an unwavering gaze, eyes flecked with gold and green, like sunlight breaking through autumn leaves.
As their eyes met in the water, she felt a gentle tug at her hand. She glanced down to see a single red thread wrapped around her finger, leading somewhere far away into the shadows among the trees. Compelled, she stepped forward, a branch snapping beneath her foot.
The sound vibrated through the air causing the vision before her to blur, the reflection in the water dissolving. As consciousness pulled her back to reality, the sense of connection remained, as if she was bound to something – or someone – she couldn’t see.
She opened her eyes to see McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey standing with their backs to her, speaking in hushed words.
“Are you sure?” McGonagall’s tone was skeptical.
“It’s uncommon nowadays, making the manifestation of a bond that much easier to miss, but I’m quite sure,” Pomfrey replied.
Neither one said anything for a moment, their silence hanging heavy in the air. Finally, a sigh from McGonagall, “We should let the child rest...”
Their voices grew faint as they moved away, but not before Lily caught a fragment of her next words, “A soulmate–”
Her eyes fluttered open then, the word glowing in her mind. She peeked down at her finger, the thread nowhere in sight.
Just my luck, she thought drowsily. My soulmate is a giant deer.
As she drifted into sleep, a soft familiar laugh echoed through the darkness in response, bright flickers appearing in her mind like twinkling lights. For a moment, she could have sworn it was James Potter.
