A-T-2 300 Disco Rap Pt.1
These are disco rap track where the raps are over a song that's already been a hit, a bit like how a riddim is used in Jamaican music
The Fearless Four - Rockin' It. We could call this the Man Machine Riddim! y'know because The Fearless Four are rapping over Man Machine by Kraftwerk. Sample technology was in it's infancy so this is a re-record like all other disco rap tracks, this also means the backing just isn't as crisp as the 1978 original and is full of disco flourishes you'd expect from funk musicians. The backing comes from Pumpkin & Friends, Pumpkin is Errol Bedward and friends are Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde and various members of The Disco Four. Their other 1982 single for Bobby Robinson's Enjoy Record was It's Magic which sees them rapping over a re-record of Cat Stevens' Was Dog A Doughnut from his 1977 album Izitso. Man Machine and Was Dog A Doughnut were two bboy records. Rockin' It itself has been sampled a lot, it's a hip hop classic from the disco rap era
youtube
Jimmy Spicer - The Bubble Bunch. Another hip hop classic, this one the follow up of Adventures Of Super Rhyme (Rap) from Jimmy Spicer (RIP) takes a section of Tom Browne's Thighs High (Grip Your Hips and Move.) It also uses a click track from the Casio VL-1 (like Michael Moorcock does on Time Centre A-T-2 198.) This one is also notable because it's mixed by Jellybean (who would cover Cat Stevens' Was Dog A Doughnut) and rap pioneer Kurtis Blow, and it's produced by pre Def Jam alleged sex predator Russel Simmons and former Kurtis Blow collaborator Larry Smith, Russel and Smith would go on to produce post-disco hip hop with Run DMC
youtube
Just Four - Jam To Remember. Shalamar's Night To Remember innit. Could you call this a posse cut? Lots of interesting personal on this record, first off Tricky Tee, he'll go on to work with Kurtis Mantronik but not to be mixed up with Mantronix's own Mc Tee, Kurtis Mantronik produces Tricky Tee's Thin Lizzy sampling solo single Johnny The Fox in 1985. Next up Wayne Brathwaite is one of the arrangers, Brathwaite is the bassist Mighty M Productions like to use (A-T-2 262) so we're talking Evelyn King and Kashif recordings. Then Jamaican's Glen Adams and Brad Osborne are writing, producing, and arranging. Glen Adams had been a key member of Lee Perry's band The Upsetters, as Glen Adams Affair he'd released the disco record Just A Groove for SAM Records in 1980. Brad Osborne moved to the Bronx in 1969 where he distributed Jamaican records and recorded visiting Jamaican musicians. These went out on his Brad and Clocktower labels. One of his early productions was of Glen Adams and a single called Tanya. In the early 80s he founded the hip hop imprint Grand Groove Records and the limited edition Dee Jay sub label
Just Four's Games Of Life is the first record to credit Marley Marl
youtube
Funky Four (sometimes Funky 4+1) - Do You Want to Rock (Before I Let Go.) This is over Maze's Before I Let Go. It goes off in a soul direction like what Sylvia Robinson was trying to do with label mates The Sequence around this time, the instrumental on the b side is essentially a modern soul track. It was produced by Sugar Hill owner, who I've just mentioned, Sylvia Robinson and in-house producer Clifton "Jiggs" Chase. Sugar Hill's band was Doug Wimbish bass, Skip McDonald guitar, and Keith LeBlanc drums. It's some silky smooth disco-rap
youtube
Brother D & The Collective Effort - How We Gonna Make The Black Nation Rise? Conscious rap originally released in 1980 as a b side, Island records pick it up and release it as an a side in the UK in 1982. Cheryl Lynn's To Be Real is the track they're rapping over, like many many others have. It was George Bernard Shaw famously described the mission of the Fabian Society to "Agitate, Educate, Organise" and that's the advise they are giving here... although as they're American it'll be Organize, right? I know this record from Coldcut's debut cut-up classic Say Kids
youtube
Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde - The Challenge (Instrumental)
So this is a bit of a secret weapon. The backing music is Nasty Girl by Prince's girl group Vanity 6, so on the b side there is essentially an extended instrumental of Nasty Girl. It's mixed and produced by Joe Tucci (Eric Matthew) of Gary's Gang et al. The a side is a cartoon boast record in reply to Vanity 6's Nasty Girl. Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde write for Captain Rock who was featured in the last post and probably had something to do with Rockin It above through their association with Pumpkin

Let’s be honest, musicians during the earliest days of rock and roll selected some very mediocre, or lame, or just terrible names.
The Beatles, The Doors, The this, or The that… and in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota circa 1967-ish, there was the bands The Grasshoppers and The Bananas. In fact, it was 1968 when The Grasshoppers ended a five year run and threw in the towel as singer Jiggs Lee was seeking a college draft deferment to avoid being shipped to Vietnam.
The following year, The Bananas were making some personnel changes, ones that brought Jiggs Lee into the band as their vocalist and Mike Mlazgar (ex-Crow) on drums. Rounded out with bassist Dave Elmeer, guitarist Lloyd Forsberg, and keyboardist Al Dworsky, The Bananas continued to fulfill existing recording contracts and already scheduled shows while determined to make changes. One of their biggest changes, of course, was the adopting of a new name and one day, half jokingly, Lloyd suggested “Cain”. No one had any objections and so, just like that, the quintet morphed into the band named CAIN.
Being around half a century ago, fifty years give or take, bands did things quite differently, without the shortcuts and mass exposure of the current age. Then, bands had to get out and play live, where they hoped to be “discovered” as they learned the ropes. CAIN had been doing this for a couple of years as they developed strong local support for their heavier take on hard rock and proto-metal music. During this period in the trenches, Mike Mlazgar would be replaced by Tom Osfar just as the band were establishing a foothold in larger markets like Chicago.
Eventually Al Dworsky would depart CAIN as well, leading to a string of short term keyboardists that included Fane Opperman, then Jerry McGee. The role changed hands once again, this time filled by Chas Carlson, while CAIN were becoming a regular act on the Midwestern U.S. club circuit, playing alongside other unknown bands at the time like Kansas, Cheap Trick, and Styx.
Tom Osfar was the next to leave CAIN, replaced by Kevin DeRemer as the band decided to remain a four-piece. During this period, several record labels were courting CAIN, who eventually signed with ASI Records (Audiotek Systems Inc.). Their first album, ‘A Pound Of Flesh‘ (a reference from Shakespeare’s “The Merchant Of Venice”), was released in 1975 and was originally intended to have a very ethereal theme permeating its music. To this day, the album’s cover artwork has been the source of speculation and confusion despite having a simple reason for being  – it was the idea of the ASI Records’ marketing department run amok. A soup can full of what appears to be entrails and other fleshly chunks piled around it… yes, I am sure The Bard would approve.
#gallery-0-3 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-3 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-3 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-3 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
‘A Pound Of Flesh‘ was followed by a second album in 1977, ‘Stinger‘, as CAIN continued to grow in popularity. Everyone seemed to expect CAIN would sign with a major record label at any point but then, half the members abruptly split in 1978 and the band quickly fell apart. It was truly a profound loss of an amazingly talented, highly creative band to be sure.
At the time of their dissolution, CAIN had begun recording material for a third album. Talk over time has established that this music was the band’s most ambitious, diversified, and wide ranged music yet. It was created with a much bigger picture in mind, a plan to provide their very best artistry in the hope it would help launch the band into a better situation with a new label. This didn’t happen unfortunately but Monster Records (now Rockadrome) stepped up and reissued ‘A Pound Of Flesh’ in 2003 – with these unreleased songs as bonuses – and helping CAIN to be discovered by a new generation of 70’s rock fans.
Unlike so many other acts from that period of time, the legend of CAIN has only grown as they achieved a revered cult status with those that appreciate the band. Long out of print for many years, copies of both original studio albums have been known to fetch hundreds of dollars each on the retail market.
No less of a rock authority than Mr. Martin Popoff has excessively praised CAIN, saying in his  ‘The Collector’s Guide To Heavy Metal – Volume 1: The Seventies’ book:
“Cain deserve to be ranked right up there with Truth And Janey as one of the most capable, ready-for-prime-time bands, toiling away, shining metal in hand, throughout America’s underground.”
He goes on to call A Pound Of Flesh “a classy piece of work…innovatively arranged… [with] a tight, immediate drum sound and tone-rich guitars.”
CAIN was inducted into the Mid-America Music Hall Of Fame on September 17th, 2010 and performed a short live set at the ceremony. This was the first time these musicians had re-assembled as CAIN in nearly 20 years and their reformation was well received, leading them to continue playing occasional gigs around their region. Second album, ‘Stinger‘, was remastered and reissued by Rockadrome in 2013, with several then-unreleased live songs added as bonus tracks.
CAIN continues to play an occasional live show while there are at least two unauthorized live bootleg recordings circulating today, ‘Live ’73-’77‘ and ‘Live At Thirsty Whale, Chicago 10-06-77‘.

Fan Art Friday - Rae and the Kings
In case you haven’t heard, Olive Brinker’s comic strip, Rae the Doe, is getting syndicated by King Features Syndicate.
So, I thought I celebrate by doing this mega fan-art, featuring Rae and Mimi taking part in a welcoming parade with most of King Features’ greats.
To be honest, it took me four days to do this. The first two days sketching on paper. The third day, scanning, then sketching and inking digitally. The fourth day, coloring by filling and stroke. It’s hard to do, but worth it.
Congratulations, Rae, and best wishes for the future!

This is an oil painting of Sammie Callis. This fellow had a huge influence on me and my brother Mac for most our lives. Sammie was a man who knew the ways of nature and how the natural world worked. There are so many ways to look at a situation and figure out a way of how to fix it. He knew the short cuts about how to work an ax, use a post hole digger (the manual kind), repair just about anything and just knew the ways of the natural world. He taught us how to hunt and fish. He could spot a squirrel in a tree like no body’s business. I would be looking all the time but I would sort of watch him because I was pretty sure he would find it first. You had to find the Squirrel’s eye. Sammie always had some kind of dog. If a man is lucky enough to have just one great dog in his life then his life is blessed. Sammie had two great dogs that I remember. Hannah a female coon dog that could find those coons. We spent a many a night following Hannah in that Lavaca River bottom. Listening to her wail. And Jiggs a small black and white male dog that was a squirrel dog deluxe. He was fairly short but as we rode along on horseback in the river bottom you would see Jiggs jumping up out of the grass for a look see to check out his surroundings. Sammie was our Uncle Remus in the stories he told and his love of the natural world. And we loved him for it. There are a ton of other stories I could tell you about this man. Like the one where he and I were up in the top of a tree trying to get a squirrel out of this hollow and all we had to work with was his tail. Gabbing a squirrel by the tail is a precarious position. But I digress…When I saw Dub’s oil painting of him I was blown away. It brought so many stories and emotions from many years ago to the surface. Please come to see the awesome oil paintings of Dub Lee at the Nave Museum. A lot of DNA of growing up in these parts is demonstrated in Dub’s paintings. As I look back over my life it becomes real clear the impact people and places have had on our journey. You can sure see it at the Nave Museum. Grand opening of Dub Lee’s Exhibit January 17th for Patrons of the Museum and invited guests and the general opening January 18th. We got a chance to ask Johnston about the launch and what we can expect and you can see the art below!
Graphic Policy: So how did the idea of The Pushpin come about?
Jessica Johnston: The idea came about late last year, after I left my job as a newspaper editor. (Print media is a bit of a freaky place to be in 2016.) I planned to freelance and do contract work, which I did, but I also started doing prints for my husband, comic creator Chip Zdarsky. He wanted to start doing regular prints, and the first was called “Bat-Hero,” a kind of meta joke about knock-off action figures of copyrighted characters. I bought a professional printer, and started making Bat-Heroes from our dining room. And I really loved doing it. The prints looked so good, I wanted to keep making more. But of course, there’s only so much one Chip can do. That’s when I decided I wanted to build a website for more artists to make work available for sale. So I guess the whole thing started with a bat-joke!
GP: How long have you been working on this project?
JJ: I began seriously planning The Pushpin at the beginning of this year. I knew a lot of incredible illustrators from my work in journalism, so I approached them first. I found people were pretty enthusiastic about the idea of having a trusted venue for producing high-quality prints of their work.
GP: It’s an impressive list of creators to launch. How’d they come to be involved?
JJ: I already revealed the secret to landing my first creator client, and that’s a decade of common-law marriage. Compared with that, the others were a breeze. All of the artists on board for the launch are from Canada, and most of those are from Toronto, which is where I live. There’s a lot of talent here, and it’s a small enough place that you just get to know people just through moving in media and arts circles. Some of the creators, like Ryan North, were already pals, and others, like Jeff Lemire, I introduced myself to because of this project.
GP: You previously worked in journalism at a newspaper as an editor. What has surprised you the most in working within the comic world?
JJ: Nobody lines up to meet journalists at conventions!
GP: The site includes comic artists and editorial illustrators. Do you notice anything different in what they’ve contributed?
JJ: There’s a surprising amount of overlap between comic work and editorial illustration — many artists do both. I love that we have comic work and illustration side by side, and we are giving both the fine-art treatment. I think there are more commonalities between the two forms than differences. Both tend to be pretty playful, and much of the work on The Pushpin has a good sense of fun. Where else can you find a high-quality giclée print of Pee Wee Herman’s white loafers? Sarah Lazarovic, who did that piece, is a genius of simple, lovable work, with just the right amount quirkiness. Then you have an incredible comics pro like Michael Cho, whose work on the site is mostly personal stuff, which is quiet and beautiful. He does these lovingly rendered portraits of Toronto’s back alleys that I can’t get enough of.
GP: How does the contributions work? Do you suggest ideas or is this all the artists?
JJ: It’s the all the artists. Once I’ve determined that someone is a good fit for The Pushpin, they have creative freedom. I like to think of myself as a kind of artistic matchmaker – connecting artists and the people who respond to their work to each other. And a big part of that is letting the artist be the artist. I trust that whatever they come up with, there are people out there who are going to love it.
GP: Seven decades plus and it feels like comics are still debated as legit art (video games suffer from the same issue). Do you see things like this raising that debate at all?
JJ: I like to think we’re past that, even though I know it’s still a challenge. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be treating comic art and illustration with the respect they deserve. There is so much incredible work happening in both areas, it’s crazy to ignore or dismiss it. Kagan McLeod is a great example of someone who does both illustration and comic work, and his stuff is mind-blowing, it’s so good. He has a piece on The Pushpin called Herc — a portrait of the guy often credited with inventing hip hop, and he’s made up of smaller portraits of famous rappers. You have to see it to believe it — it’s amazing. So ambitious, and perfectly executed. Any of the individual portraits could be in a gallery.
GP: The initial artists are all Canadian and you’ll be expanding from there. Is there any particular reason you started with just Canadians?
JJ: I decided to start near home when approaching artists, and work my way out. I am pretty lucky that felt in no way limiting. Jeff Lemire, Kagan McLeod, Ryan North, Sarah Lazarovic, Julia Breckenreid, Valentine de Landro, Michael Cho… they are all basically neighbours. I do look forward to expanding The Pushpin’s borders, though, because, really, there’s so much great talent everywhere.
GP: Do you know what the release schedule will be like for future releases? Is it a set schedule? And will any of these go out of print?
JJ: I have some artists lined up to come on board in the coming months, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Marguerite Sauvage among them, but I’ll be adding people on a rolling basis. Like the work itself, the number of prints is up to the artist. Some are unlimited, and some are capped. Jeff Lemire, for instance, has two prints on The Pushpin, a Sweet Tooth and an Essex County one. There will only be 100 of each of those, so if that’s what you’re after, you better get one quick!
GP: Thanks so much! And check out some of the art below!

Ford Transit plug-in hibridek csatlakoznak egy londoni kísérletsorozathoz
A Ford bejelentette, hogy ősszel kezdetét veszi a plug-in hibrid (PHEV) hajtású Ford Transit modellekre alapozott londoni kísérletsorozat.
A Transport for London vállalat három autót kap a mindennapos szállítási feladatok megoldására.
Az érintett felhasználók:
Transport for London Metropolitan Police Clancy Plant Addison Lee British Gas
“Örömmel tértem vissza a Ford haszongépjármű-csapatához” – nyilatkozta Mark Harvey.
A Ford idén ősszel indítja útjára több millió angol font költségvetésű projektjét, amit a Transport for London vállalat mellett a brit kormány által alapított Fejlett Hajtási Rendszerek Központja is támogat.

Ford will host a fireside chat on CV electrification, 11am at the Birmingham NEC CV Show on the 25th April
The first wave of fleets participating in the Ford Transit plug-in hybrid van (PHEV) London trial, starting this autumn, have been confirmed.
The multi-million pound project is designed to explore how lower-emission plug-in hybrid electric vans could support cleaner air targets, whilst boosting productivity for operators in urban conditions – the toughest working environment for commercial vehicles.
The project, supported by Transport for London, features a 12-month trial of 20 new Ford Transit PHEVs that reduce local emissions by running solely on electric power for the majority of inner-city trips. Equipped with range extenders, the fleet is not limited by battery range, making them capable of the longer journeys that may be required by businesses and ‘blue light’ services.
The participating fleets represent a cross-section of city-based businesses which will integrate the Ford Transit PHEV vans into their day-to-day operations. Using a Ford telematics system, each Transit PHEV will collect data on the vehicles’ financial, operational and environmental performance to help understand how the benefits of electrified vehicles could be maximised.
The five fleets include the Metropolitan Police with two Transit PHEV vans: one marked for second response to traffic accidents and one un-marked as a forensic support unit. In addition, Transport for London will use three of the vans for freight duties.
Confirmed fleets:
Transport for London
Metropolitan police
Clancy Plant
Addison Lee
British Gas
Jiggs Bharij, Head of Fleet Services, Metropolitan Police said: “The Metropolitan police are committed to a sustainable fleet of vehicles. We’re delighted to be working with Ford on this innovative PHEV Transit trial- working towards a cleaner London.”
Andy Barratt, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford of Britain, said: “Over the past 50 years, the Ford Transit has been the UK’s favourite commercial vehicle. Our customers have always been at the centre of our development, so working directly with our fleets is vital in delivering an electrified CV that adds value to the many different businesses going in and out of our cities every day.”
In addition, Mark Harvey has been appointed Director of Urban Electrified Van programme – a new position at Ford in the UK. In the role, Mark will work directly with Transport for London, the participating fleets, and the Ford development team, to bring manufacturer, consumer and city together to better understand CV use in a megacity.
Mark Harvey said on his appointment “I am delighted to be back on the Ford CV team. I have worked on the Transit Custom for four years, and it feels right to now be working directly with our customers again to find the best electrified CV solution for their business needs.”
He added, “CV use is incredibly varied from sector to sector, and the trial should give us some really interesting insight into how CVs are used across a range of industries in the city, allowing us, as a manufacturer, to better develop electrified CVs that work for the customers, whilst also improving air quality.”
Ford to launch the multi-million pound project this autumn; working with Transport for London and supported by the UK Government-funded Advanced Propulsion Centre.
Ford is the UK’s best-selling commercial vehicle brand, with over 50-years of CV leadership. The Transit PHEV van is planned for commercial introduction in 2019, part of the automaker’s $4.5 billion investment in electrified vehicles by 2020 as it expands to be an auto and a mobility company, including leading in electrified and autonomous vehicles and providing new mobility solutions.

The best games of the White Sox that will make you fall in love of this team
Tumblr media

There are many reasons to love this major league baseball team. They are always full of energy and despite the bad spins that any team has, they have always managed to get ahead. They are also from the oldest teams in the major leagues of baseball, which makes them more endearing and known. In addition, they also have behind them a past full of plays that went down in history. Here, four of them:
Their first world series won
Against all odds, the White Sox won against the Chicago Cubs in this championship that ran from October 9 to June 14, 1906. Although the opposing team had already won in other occasions, the White Sox struck out and triumphed winning 4 games against two.
Besides that, this moment was loaded with other data that made it unique in history. The championship was by itself a singular event because it was played for the first time without leaving Chicago and as both teams were of this city, every day they changed stadium. The odd games were played on the West Side Grounds of the Cubs, while the pairs were played in South Side Park, now called Comiskey Park.
Another curious fact is that throughout the World Series there were no home runs, however, it was very common to see the play called "Spitball or Spitter" in which White Sox player Ed Walsh was an expert. It consisted of putting saliva to the ball to create an effect and make the batter more difficult to hit. It could also reach a higher speed that could even badly hurt a person. Although this type of launches is currently prohibited, by then it was allowed and even was a great advantage for the team that had a member able to make this release.
Other players who were for this match were the left-handed Nick Altrock and Georgetown "Doc" White. There was also Frank Owen, Jiggs Donahue, George Rohe, Georg Davis, Lee Tannchill.
Second World Series won and Second American League Championship
For this moment, the White Sox had assured the win thanks to a great team. Under Pants Rowland's instructions, they went out victorious of the American League champions with a 100-54 record and return to the World Series to face and win the New York Giants 4 games against two. It was played since October 6 to 15 of that month in 1917. From the first game, which was held at Comiskey Park, they won 2-1.

Their team was extraordinary because among its members there were several with years of experience. Among the pitchers were two great celebrities: Ed Cicotte and Red Faber. The first had won 28 games and had a record of 28-12, 1.53 while the second was 16-13, 1.92. Between both pitched 50 innings in the game. Among other great players was Eddie Collins, who has been recognized as one of the best players in second base, Jackson and the catcher Ray Schalk, who since he was 18 made baseball his life. For him, White Sox paid up to $ 10,000, because by then he had a great reputation for being the best catcher.
Fourth American League Championship
Despite difficult times in the past, the White Sox returned to the American League championship when they faced the Dodgers winning 4 games against 2. The places in which the championship was disputed was in the Comiskey Park of White Sox and Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles.
That day the record of tickets sold in a game of the World Series was of more than 92 thousand. This championship was done from the first of October until the 8 of that month in 1959. By then, the equipment went by a quarter triumphs after winning the third in 1919. Although they failed to reach the World Series, it was a moment of great expectation where the team managed to prove that it was still strong.
For this championship they also had all the hopes in the equipment, even they were nicknamed them "Go-Go Sox". His team was made up of great characters. They were directed by Al Lopez who was two times All Star. They also had Luis Paricio, Jacob "Nelly", Ted Kluszewski, among others.
Triumph in American League Championship
This is a great date for the White Sox team because for the first time in 77 years they managed to make four consecutive games in the playoffs. This was possible thanks to Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, Mark Buehrle, and Jose Contreras who rotated to make four-pitch. This championship was given from October 11 to 16 of that month in 2005.
Between these four players, Mark Buehrle played for the team from 2004 to 2008 with a break in 2005. This character is 5 times All Star, and for that year, began season with a record of 10-3. Garland was also a major member of White Sox, for 2004 he was 12-11 with a 4.89 ERA and for 2005 he rose to 18-10 with a 3.50 ERA.
