mxtx deserves an award for her mastery over these super complex and also relatable relationship dynamics.
also jian yu is su minshan if minshan back-talked jin guangyao. which minshan would of course never do because he would never disrespect lianfang-zun like that 😤 but still.

Day 4
Sad
Shackles
For Yin Yu week
(minor character death)
______________________
Yin Yu sat hunched in on himself, the spring rain creating a curtain over the mouth of the cave he was in.
He was staring at his wrist. The black shackle around it is an ever present reminder of the terrible things that had occurred because of him.
The broken leg that he injured from a bad fall months ago is healed. He can move around now without much effort. He can leave this cave that he had been residing in for months now. He should leave. But he can't.
The cave's other occupant was cursing at the damp twigs he had piled up to “catch fire d-dammit! Fuck, it's f-fucking c-cold.”
Yin Yu didn't even glance at the other man, so used as he was to this situation. He knew that if he told his friend to stop, that it would be pointless, the other would simply ignore him. He couldn't hear him, after all.
“Yin Yu! Stay awake d-dammit!” His friend paused as if listening to something. “I don't care if you're still immortal. If you f-fall asleep in this c-cold you won't wake up!”
The figure in Yin Yu’s periphery stood up and started rubbing his arms up and down. Trying to use the friction to keep warm.
“I s-saw a village not too far from h-here,” he continued, contemplating. Again he paused, as if he were listening to a response. “I d-dont c-care if there’s a f-fucking blizzard!” He yelled. “If I don't do something we will both d-die! And you can't move! Your l-leg is b-broken!” He frowned at something only he could hear, his gaze becoming darker and harsher. He growled in frustration throwing his arms up, then kicked the cave wall yelling loudly as he did so. “Fucking fuck! This is all my fucking fault! We sh-shouldn't even be in this sit-situation!”
Yin Yu started rubbing the mark on his wrist with his fingers. It has been there for a while now. A few months. Or is it years?
The figure of his friend crossed his arms in front of his chest, his stubborn expression was determined even through his chattering teeth. “I'm l-leaving to g-get help. You c-can’t stop m-me.” With that declaration he turned and left the cave, passing through the curtain of rain, his hair whipping around frantically in a wind only he could feel.
Yin Yu will never forget that day.
After Jian Yu had left to get help, Yin Yu had crawled to the entrance of the cave, dragging his broken leg behind him, crying out desperately for his friend, but Jian Yu never came back. He went back into the depths of the cave away from the entrance. He managed to get the fire that Jian Yu was struggling with lit, and he curled as close as he could to the flames for warmth. He dozed, sleeping in stops and starts, hoping desperately that Jian Yu had made it safely to the village and would return soon.
Yi Yu had then woken to the sounds of Jian Yu cursing.
“Catch fire d-dammit! Fuck, it's f-fucking c-cold.”
He had sat up elated at his friend's return, only to see Jian Yu trying to pile up damp twigs then light a fire, when one was already burning.
“Jian Yu?” he called tentatively, voice hoarse from sleep. His friend didn't look right. His eyes were vacant and dull. His face was grey, his lips were a frightening shade of blue. “Jian Yu,” he whispered softly.
His friend turned sharply, Yin Yu thought he had finally reacted to his voice. “Yin Yu! Stay awake d-dammit!” He paused as if listening to something. “I don't care if you're still immortal. If you f-fall asleep in this c-cold you won't wake up!”
A heavy pit settled itself in Yin Yu’s stomach in realisation, JianYu had said those words before, followed by an ice cold sensation of water being poured over his head and down his body through his veins to his fingers and toes. His throat tightened. His lips trembled. His heart broke.
Jian Yu was dead. He had returned as a ghost to replay his last moments, over and over.
Yin Yu knew this. Before he ascended when he was still a disciple he had helped many families whose loved ones, for one reason or another, couldn't pass on. And many of them would replay their last moments before death.
“Jian Yu…” He croaked. His eyes burned.
The only person he had left in this world was dead. The only person who believed in him, who still cared for him was dead. Frozen to death in the blizzard that was continuing to rage outside the cave. With all the snow his body probably wouldn't be found until spring.
It was at that last thought that Yin Yu allowed the tears to start falling. A sob racked his body. Then another. And another. He covered his face with his hands and wept, body jolting from the force of his sobs. His friend is dead, and now Yun Yu is alone.

Day 8 of @whumperless-whump-event
Day: 8 - PUT YOUR HEAD ON MY SHOULDER
Prompt: Migraine / Light & Sound Sensitivity / "I can close the curtains..."
Newly ascended quan yizhen is overwhelmed by all of heavens… heavenli-ness, his shixiong comforts him
Fandom: TGCF
Characters: Yin Yu, Quan Yizhen, Jian Yu
“Shixiong…” Yizhen began, trying to get attention on himself because his head has been /hurting/ again, but his Shixiong’s still busy with the group of gods in front of him.
So he was ignored once again, and glared at by Jian Yu. The noise, all those people talking over each other, is making his head hurt worse and he can feel himself get more agitated. Just as he was about to speak again he was pulled inside by the other deputy god to have a ‘little chat’.
With the harsh grab and pull his head is jostled roughly and it makes the pain spike badly. He shuts his eyes and holds his hands over his ears though it barely helps.
“What the hell were you thinking?!” Jian Yu quietly hissed, keeping him in place with a tight grip to his shoulder.
“…What?” He manages to squeeze out of his stiff jaw, genuinely confused and just wanting to be by Shixiong's side again.
When he squints open bis eyes he thinks he sees Jian Yu get angrier but that's normal so he lets his mind wander. He really doesn't like this new place, he doesn't really like new places at all, but Shixiong brought him here so it should be fine!
It's not fine. It's too bright and loud and the people here are worse than those back in their sect. They’re more confusing, all dressed in bright gaudy clothes or excessive armor, all loud trying to vie for attention, and they all crowded him when he was already feeling bad because he lost his Shingxiong so he did what he was trained to. When you’re surrounded by strangers you can’t let them get you!
He doesn't understand why everyone’s making so much noise right now. But it makes him feel much much worse, this entire place makes him feel much worse, but shixiong… Shixiong’s worth it, so he bares with it all, the best he can.
A loud slam and he flinches and tightly closes his eyes as he holds his hands over his ears again. Then when he squits them open and lowers his ears… it’s too bright all the curtains are pulled open and heaven’s light pours in, not to mention the bright aura of light coming from Jian Yu. To avoid hurting more he closes his eyes and keeps his ears covered.
“-do you know how much shit you’ve put yin yu th- oh my gods! You're not even listening!” He thinks he hears Jian Yu yell but he can’t be sure over all the hurt and static in his head.
Then suddenly a hand is grabbing his wrists and he acts on instinct trying to head butt the attacker. Luckily for Jian Yu, he managed to dodge, quickly letting go of Yizhen before yelling again. This time he really didn't hear whatever Jian Yu was yelling about because the pain got so, so much worse. But before anything could escalate again.
“Jian Yu that's enough… Let me talk to him," shixiong says and the sound of the other man’s voice is enough to make him snap his head towards the noise, never mind that it made the hurt about ten times worse.
“But Yin Y-“ Jian Yu was cut off by a pat to his shoulder and Yin Yu’s tight smile.
“I got it, please let the gods that came here know we definitely don't harbor any ill will?” Shixiong says he doesn't really get it but by the sound of affirmation that Jian Yu gave he did get it.
Then before he knows it the doors are opening and slamming shut, /loudly/, again. The sound makes him stiffen and push his hands over his ears more.
“…Yizhen,” He hears his Shixiong call, so he looks toward him and smiles the best he can.
“Shixiongg Hurts, bright ‘nd loud!” He quickly lets out as he stares at his Shixiong.
Yin Yu startles at the quick pace of the information shared he understood after a few moments of his ex-disciple, now deputy god, staring at him with those wide expectant eyes.
So Yin Yu sighs and resigns himself to a cuddly and in pain shidi for the next few hours.
“I'll close the curtains, Yizhe-“
“Shidi,” Yizhen interrupted, staring at the older god.
“…Shidi, I'll close the curtains, you go sit or lie on the bed,” his shixiong orders as he turns to close off the curtains.
He makes an affirmative noise and then turns to run around looking for something to lay on. He ends up in the main bedroom, grumbling at the still too bright light, but quickly finds the well crafted bed. As ordered to him he quickly flops in the soft mattress; he winces as the movement rattles his head. He lays face down on the bed for a while before he begins to get restless again.
Thankfully just when he was about to get up and look for Yin Yu, he heard the bedroom door quietly open and click close, then the curtains were pulled shut. He turns his head slightly to see Shixiong sitting on the edge of the bed. The sight allows him to relax a bit more, and then he feels Shixiong’s hands remove his hair tie and run his hands through his hair.
Safe to say Yizhen was completely out cold when Jian Yu returned, yet Yin Yu still was running a hand through his unruly curls.

Jem's parents' love story is so much funnier if you consider that Jonah and Wenyu were born at the start of the first opium war and likely met during the second, being like 18 and 17 when it started. Imagine being a stoic, disciplined warrior princess working at imperial court and one day the evil british enemy shows up and you're ready to annihilate him except he is a sappy romantic fool and tries to serenade you. I know my girl was befuddled. Invented enemies to lovers honestly

Yin Yu, a 4th year college student who majors on english and takes history, works as a part-timer in a homey restaurant. He likes writing his own novels and poetry, but never has the confidence to post them. He was in the martial arts club with Jian Yu in highschool, but he stopped practicing after graduation. Jian Yu is another 4th year college student, studying medicine and history. He doesn't have a forgiving schedule, so he doesn't have a part-time job. He's a prankster and a playful jerk, but he means well. He still goes to the gym and constantly tries (and fails) dragging his best friend with him
