Welcome to the 'Best Character with [X] surname' polls!
This is where I take several characters from different Chinese media (mostly cnovels and cdrama) and run a poll on which one is the 'best'. What does best mean? It's up to you! Whether you love them, are intrigued by their characters, love to hate them, or they're your '2 second blorbos whose personality you made up wholesale', these are all reasons for you to vote for your favs!
NB: the surnames are not exactly the same in all the cases, as often they will be a different character. I am, however, grouping them all together otherwise things got more complicated.
If you can't find a surname, it's because I couldn't find enough candidates (at least 3 from 3 distinct medias) to compete. Feel free to submit candidates!
I will be posting several polls at a time, so do come back and check this masterpost to remember which polls are ongoing, who the winners are, and who's coming up next!
Finished polls: Xing/Rong/Nan/Ren/Pan/Qu/Fu/Sui/Tan/You/Sima/Xuan/Chang/Xun/Shangguan/Jian/Qian/Shu/Xi/Yuwen/Cai/Sha/Yin/Ceng/Helian/Zeng/Lou/Mi/Ji/Ping/Tong/Tuoba/Ge/Murong/Hei/Niu/Tao/Si/Pang/Zi/Gongsun/Mao/Qing/Lian

Biography of Zhou Fu (JS061)
Fu, courtesy name Zuxuan, was Jun's junior cousin. His father Rui was Grand Warden of Anping. Fu as young was equally famous as his friend Chenggong Jian, they rose from their families together to become literary teachers for the various kings. He amassed to move to Aide for Western Dependants to the Minister over the Masses. The Minister over the Masses Wang Hun petitioned:
Fu's reasoning and understanding is clear and straight, he also has talent and ability and is a master at deciding the Nine Grades, his examinations pull to together essentials and details. Your Subject entrust and rely on his duties' fulfilment, his praise and blame being apt and fitting, and request he fill the vacancy of Gentleman of the Masters of Writing.
Allowed it.
Bit by bit he moved to Senior Clerk of the Left to the Minister over the Masses and Gentleman of the Personnel Section. His selections and recommendations were essential and compact, and discussions on his prospects increasingly commendable. He shifted to Central Assistant to the Steering Clerk and Attendant-at-Centre, and was designated Inspector of Xu province, concurrently General of the Best of the Army, Acting with the Tally. He was summoned to be Commandant of Justice.
Emperor Hui favoured Ye, and the King of Chengdu, Ying, used Fu as Interim Governor of Henan. Li Zhen, Shangguan Si, and others offered the King of Qinghe, Tan, to be Heir-Apparent, and promoted Fu to General of Guards, Recording the Masters of Writing. Fu declined and did not accept. Tan ordered Fu to combine armies with Shangguan Si. Fu understood that Si was a small person who indulged in brutality and in the end would be a traitor to the state. He therefore together with the Minister of Personnel Man Fen and others planned to together remove him. The plan leaked, and they were assailed by Si. Fen was murdered but Fu fled and managed to escape.
When Si was defeated by Zhang Fang, [he] summoned Fu to return and adminster as Governor of Henan, and when the King of Donhai, Yue, welcomed the Great Carriage, he used Ying as [General who] Leads the Army of the Centre. He had not yet gone when he moved to Colonel Minister of Personnel, concurrently Cavalier Regular Attendant, Acting with the Tally, Chief Controller of the Various Army Affairs at Mianchi.
When the Emperor returned to the palace, he set out to be General who Pacifies the East, Chief Controller of the Various Army Affairs of Yang province. He replaced Liu Zhun as General who Garrisons the East, and together with Zhou Ji and others he chastised Chen Min, wiping him out. For his merits he was ennobled Earl of Yongning.
Fu, who himself had gone through the mishaps of the era, always wished to safeguard and rectify the court's changes, his loyal feelings were sincere in the extreme. Since the King of Donghai, Yue, had not fully the steadfastness of a subject, he always told his opinion sharply. Yue deeply dreaded him. Fu observed the crowds of traitors were a blazing fire and that Luoyang was isolated and imperilled. He therefore built a strategy to welcome the Son of Heaven and move the capital to Shouchun. 4th Year of Yongjia [310 AD], he and Senior Clerk Wu Si and Marshal Yan Shi sent up a letter which said:
[We] did not consider the difficult cycle would carry on until this point! The Rong and Di invade one after the other, and the capital domain is imperilled and pressured. Your Subject on his own together with Zu Na, Pei Xian, Hua Tan, Sun Hui, and others, 30 people, humbly thought of a great plan. In all instances, as the people of Yin had the affairs of frequent moves, and the King of Zhou had the move of Qi Mountain, just now the royal capital is emptied, depleted and not possible to dwell in for long, north of the He is barren and bleak and Yao [mountain] and Han [valley] are hazardous and rugged, the Wan capital has frequently fallen and the Jiang-Han area has many troubles, at present in the flatlands the south-east is the better. The land of Huai-Yang to the north is blocked off by Tu Mountain, to the south is shielded by the Ling Peak, and famous rivers surround it in four directions, they have the strength of important defiles. This is why the people of Chu when they moved east thereupon took refuge at Shouchun. Xu, Pi and Donghai also are sufficiently defended and secure. Moreover canal transportation connects it in four directions, and there are no worries of deprivation and depletion.
Although the sagely sovereign is divinely astute, the primary supporters worthy and bright, dwelling frugally and defending restraint, and employed in guarding the ancestral temples, it is not as good as assessing the terrain and moving location, and so relish in eternal fortune. Your Subject has carefully selected 30 000 finest soldiers to serve in welcoming the august carriage. [I] on my own have called to arms the former Commander of Central Gentlemen of the North, Pei Xian, to act as Envoy Holding the Tally, Overseer of the Various Army Affairs of Yu province, and Commander of the Central Gentlemen of the East to swift as the wind proceed forthwith. Jing, Xiang, Jiang, Yang should each first transport the 4th Year's grain tax, 150 000 hu, and cloth and tabby silk, 140 000 bolts each, to provide for the great carriage. [I] have ordered Wang Jun and Gou Xi together to pacify north of the He, Your Subject and others will join forces to open the southern road. To move the capital and stop the robbers, these plans are both obtainable.
When the August Conveyance comes on tour, Your Subject ought to move to occupy Jiang province, to expand the royal boundaries. Knowing there is nothing [they] would not do is what the ancients applied themselves to do. [I] dare to be utterly loyal and sincere, in the hope of repaying one ten-thousandth. In the morning to succeed and in the evening to fall is still the ambition of a lifetime.
Yue was not in concord with Gou Xi, and Fu did not first inform Yue but straight away sent up the letter, and Yue was greatly angered. Before this, Yue summoned FU and the Grand Warden of Huainan, Pei Shou, but Fu was not willing to travel and he ordered Shou to lead the troops and advance first. Shou was disloyal to Fu and therefore raised up troops, claiming Fu instructed him on his own initiative. He had already received Yue's secret directive to plot against Fu. He then assaulted him but was defeated by Fu. Shuo withdrew to guard Dongcheng and sought help from Emperor Yuan. The Emperor dispatched the General who Spreads Power, Gan Zhuo, and the General who Establishes Power, Guo Yi, to attack Fu at Shouchun. The Grand Warden of Anfeng, Sun Hui, led a multitude in response to them, and had Xie Chi make a call to arms. Chi was Fu's former general. When Fu saw the call to arms, he, with tears flowing, said:
Surely it is Xie Chi's expressions.
Chi heard about it, and thereupon destroyed the draft. After ten days, Fu's multitudes dispersed and he ran to Xiang. He was seized by the King of Xincai, Que, The anxious frustration brought illness and he passed.
Earlier, at Hua Tan's loss of Lujiang, he went to Shouchun to rely on Fu. When Fu's army was defeated, he turned back to Emperor Yuan. The Emperor asked him, saying:
How did Zhou Zuxuan end up in rebellion?
Tan replied, saying:
Though Zhou Fu is dead, Under Heaven still has gentlemen of upright speech. Fu saw the robbers and traitors grow like vines, and the kingly power not being stirred. For that reason he wished to move the capital to loosen the state's difficulties. The elders of the regions were not of the same mind which consequently brought about their attack. Not even a season had gone past when the imperial capital was lost. If they had made to follow Fu's plan, in some cases it could have delayed the fall. Tracking back the circumstances and seeking the reality, how could he have been a rebel!
The Emperor said:
Fu held rank among [the Generals who] Conquer and Garrison. He held tight his troops in a corner of the region, when summoned he did not come, and during the danger he did not take care of it. He is also a criminal Under Heaven.
Tan said:
That is so. Fu shook his tassel at the central court and had a long standing reputation for exceptional intellect. He set out to occupy the peaks of a region and truly had the weight of special burdens. Yet lofty strategies were not lifted up, he from time to time neglected harmony, and during the danger he did not take care of it. He must together with Under Heaven accept his blame. However, to speak of him as a rebel, is it not also false!
The Emperor's thoughts started to open up.
Fu had two sons, Mi and Jiao. Mi, courtesy name Taixuan, was by nature unassuming and plain. At the time people declared him a pure scholar. His rank reached Gentleman of the Masters of Writing. Jiao, courtesy name Zhengxuan, also had talent and ability.
Chenggong Jian, courtesy name Zongshu, was a native of Dong commandery. His family had for generations been Two Thousand Shi officials. He was by nature simple and plain, did not seek glory and profit, and immersed his heart in savouring the Way, there was nothing which interfered with his aspirations. His soundless understanding was beyond other people. Zhang Maoxian always said:
Jian's pure serenity is comparable to Yang Ziyun, his soundless understanding imitates Zhang Anshi.
Later he became Gentleman of the Central Writers. At the time Fu had already become Colonel Minister of Personnel, and moved to General who Garrisons the East. Jian, since he himself, though his talent was lofty, yet was positioned below Fu, spoke to Fu, saying:
Yang Xiong was a Gentleman for three generations without being moved, and yet Wang Mang and Dong Xian ranked among the Three Ministers. Past and present follow the same principles, and that is all.
Fu was very ashamed of it. His official position reached Central Retainer to the Heir-Apparent and Cavalier Regular Attendant. At the end of Yongjia, he ran to Gou Xi, and was lost together with Xi.
[Zhang Maoxian = Zhang Hua. Yang Ziyun = Yang Xiong (53 BC – 18 AD).]

Why would people like Bu Zhi and Lü Ju support Sun Ba? They knew he wasn't the rightful heir.
I have tried to find a clear answer to this and honestly I have no idea.
It's easy to see why Quan Zong backed Sun Ba. His fie (Sun Luban) was playin The Game. His son Quan Ji was Sun Ba's chief adviser. He and members of his family had feuds with some of Sun He's chief supporters. None of these are good reasons for risking a civil war, but it's easy to understand his motives.
Support from men like Bu Zhi, Lü Dai, and Lü Ju is much harder to understand. They do not appear to have had had any personal conflict with Sun He or his supporters. Lü Dai and Bu Zhi continued to work harmoniously with Lu Xun and Zhuge Ke; Lü Ju remained close to his brother-in-law Teng Yin (they were married to sisters). I have not found any petitions or other writings from them explaining their reasoning for backing Sun Ba.
I can note that Lü Dai and Bu Zhi were associated with each other for a long time, and one may have been following the other's lead, but that doesn't explain why one of them would support Sun Ba in the first place. Lü Ju and Quan Zong were both stationed on the eastern front for a time (when Lü Fan was still alive and commanding the defenses in that region) but the connections between them are not particularly strong, and Lü Ju had more recently been stationed in the west, serving under Pan Jun and Zhu Ran (whose son was firmly in Sun He's camp after rejecting personal appeals from Sun Ba). So these associations don't really tell us anything useful.
It's also hard to determine what exactly their support entailed. Quan Zong slandered Gu Cheng and Zhang Xiu, leading to their exile and death (along with Gu Tan). However, there is no account of such activities from Bu Zhi, Lü Dai, or Lü Ju. The only source that clearly identifies them as supporters of Sun Ba is a supplemental work from the Jin era, Yin Ji’s Tongyu 通語, but I have no reason to doubt it's authenticity.
It may be significant that Bu Zhi and Lü Dai, and Lü Ju were all stationed outside of the capital and could have based their support on limited information. They might have believed the rumors spread about Sun He, though that's a bit of a stretch to believe. These were not foolish men, and surely whatever slander they heard was balanced by arguments from colleagues like Lu Xun and Zhuge Ke.
The easy answer is that they thought Sun Ba would win the contest and wanted to back the winning horse, but I find this explanation unsatisfying. While these men were certainly all careerists who hoped to advance their positions and power, there was no pressing need for them to back Sun Ba for that. Sun He was the safer bet by far.
If I were to take a conspiratorial approach, I would note that when Sun Hao reviewed Wei Zhao's records of Wu's history, he was offended by some of the content and demanded changes be made to the official records. It's plausible to suggest that Sun He actually did commit some significant faults that Sun Hao desired to cover up, presenting his father an an innocent man wronged by the schemes of others; but I don't think this is likely, since there are no accounts from other sources (JBZ, Wu Li, Wu Lu, etc.) that accuse Sun He of wrongdoing. One can always posit a coverup by the government, but without any proof it's a meaningless accusation.
All of this is to say that after thoroughly researching the Crown Prince Affair, I truly have no idea why these men voiced their support for Sun Ba. I can only conclude that their support was due to details that have not survived in established records.

Who are known as the best stylists in cdramas? Who are some costume designer/stylists that have caught your attention?
There isn't so much styling directors/costume designers who are considered "good", as much as consistent or well known (because they've had very prominent works, but doesn't mean all their work has been well received). Huang Wei is probably seen as one of the more consistent ones (though she's gotten some criticism recently for similar costumes across the dramas she's done). Fang Sizhe (costume) and Zhang Shuping (hair/makeup) are very well known names, but not necessarily always considered good (they did do Rise of Phoenixes, which won a lot of praise for costumes). Other well known names include Shirley Chan (陈顾方), Chen Tongxun (陈同勋), Yee Chung-man (奚仲文), Song Xiaotao, Ru Meiqi.
(Mentioning just the historical works)
Huang Wei: Shen Yin, My Journey to You (reported), Wu Geng Ji, A Dream of Splendor, Till the End of the Moon, Back From the Brink, The Legend of Xiao Chuo, Immortality, One and Only, Ever Night, Tribes and Empires, THe Longest Day In Chang’an. She also worked on Journey of Flower with JoyBell Chan (陈乐勤).
Fang Sizhe: Immortal Samsara (costume designer, Shirley Chan was styling director), A Journey to Love, Rise of Phoenixes (costume), Mysterious Lotus Casebook (costume, Shirely Can styling director),, Who Rules the World, Story of Kunning Palace, Stand By Me (costumes), Love and Redemption (costumes), Novoland Pearl Eclipse (with Shirley Chan), Eternal Faith, Bu Bu Jing Xin
Zhang Shuping: Eternal Love of Dream, Love and Destiny, The Rebel Princess (one of the costume designers), Ruyi’s Royal Love In the Palace, War of Flowers, Lost Love In Times, Ming Dynasty
Shirley Chan: In addition to the ones mentioned above, she also worked on Bu Bu Jing Xin, Chinese Paladin 1 & 3, Love and Redemption, Under the Power, Nobel Aspirations, Swords of Legends, Listening Snow Tower
Yee Chung-man: Best known for Curse of the Golden Flower, also did Novoland: Eagle Flag and The Golden Hairpin
Chen Tongxun: Best known for Legend of the Demon Cat, also did Legend of Zhen Huan (Empresses In the Palace), The Emperor’s Love, The Legend of Shen Li, Legend of Dugu, Joy of Life, The Untamed, The Wolf,, The Blue Whisper, The Sword and Brocade
Song Xiaotao: Chinese Paladin 1 & 3, Imperial Doctress, Untouchable Lovers (costume, not hair), Wu Xin: The Monster Killer, Palace, Winter Begonia, Story of Yanxi Palace, Legend of Haolan, The Ingenious One, Royal Feast
Ru Meiqi: Nirvana In Fire, Jin Yong’s Wuxia Universe, White Cat Legend, Thousand Years of Love
JoyBell Chan: Eternal Love of Dream, The Romance of Tiger and Rose
For newer names, Xi Jingkai and Tan Limin are the Goodbye My Princess costume designers and won some love there, though haven't had anything prominent since. Yi Xiaoya did Love Between Fairy and Devil and got some attention for that. Han Guangren got some attention with Word of Honor and recently did The Blood of Youth. I liked Li Yuling’s work with Serenade of Peaceful Joy. I also liked The Glory of Tang Dynasty team (Hou Yunyi and Guan Yue).

Beak Ji Yiiiiiiiin!!! 💔 (25 21)
Escena final. 🥲
Hasta la próxima actualización, chickens 🐥

***********************************************
Impavid here! Okay, this is pretty amazing! I do need to make a few corrections (Zaichun was never king; his older sister Guang was the queen - the Hou-Ting killed by the Red Lotus, for example) and sure there are a few missing characters (how could there not be, there are so damn many) but even still, AMAZING.
Also, I laughed a lot at your little comments, @tortoisesforhire. “Budding lepidopterist.” “Tried to scold Sayuri once.” (Tried being the operative word, good luck on that one.) THAT MADE MY DAY.
I can also add in some of the missing names, for sure.
Anybody else? Please add in. I know @peoniequeen is also making a list just as I know there are a lot more characters. (God help us all. But me. Especially me.)
Once this is all complete I’ll create a page for it here on Tumblr and post it permanently. Also, I think I can post it on AO3 as well.

Hope everyone is partying (by yourself, spiritually, or with people, all are totally fine) well into the Christmas weekend! I am back with even more recs (I’ll prolly give it a rest at the 10th one sorry for the spam guys)! This one I just finished a few days ago, because CHINA BOOKSTORE PUBLISHED THIS ON CHRISTMAS WITH MANY GOODIES!! And I was like oh cute long-hair dude, let me read this.
Anyway this is a fengshui + supernatural + body-switching type of novel, with a heavy focus on fengshui! I don’t know if everyone knows what fengshui is (I will prolly do a list for Chinese New Year) and I am no expert, but it’s basically like Chinese geomancy where you can calculate a person’s fate, wealth, marriage suitability etc. with things in an individual’s environment.
So a lot of Chinese people, for example businessmen when they have new offices or when couples renovate their homes, they may get a feng shui master to arrange furniture and add crystals or talismans or whatever to increase wealth/prosperity/happiness or harmonize bad energy etc., just an example. When you want to check the compatibility of yourself and your SO, some people do go to the fengshui master and calculate their 八字 (day, hour, time they were born + other things) to see when is an auspicious day to marry etc.
My ex-editor really believes in feng shui masters because hers really predicted a year that her husband got into hugeee trouble like almost to the day itself apparently. And she always wear an accessory with a snake on it because the master said
Written by the same author (Xi Zi Xu) who wrote Kaleidoscope of Death!
- Part of Min’s ‘Why You Should Read’ Series -
Summary:
This book is set in the normal, regular, law-abiding modern city world where fengshui is heavily believed in, and skilled masters can see spirits, bad energies. Where dogs can be reincarnated as humans, and there are demonic pets that humans can keep, and paper dolls can come to life basically.
Zhou Jia Yu is a government office worker who dies in a car accident one day, and wakes up in the body of another Zhou Jia Yu - a handsome man whose name is the same as his. He’s brought back by this spirit bird in his head called Ji Ba (pun not intended), who says that Zhou Jia Yu is fated to save Lin Zhu Shui, the young, blind fengshui master who has caught him.
Unfortunately, this second Zhou Jia Yu is a con-artist who has cheated the money of several families via fraudulent fengshui schemes, and his scams have led to the death of several children in the process. Legendary fengshui master Lin Zhu Shui and his disciples have caught/imprisoned this Zhou Jia Yu, not knowing that original conman Zhou Jia Yu has died (and therefore his soul is gone), leaving good citizen Zhou Jia Yu in the body of a conman.
Lin Zhu Shui intends to kill conman Zhou Jia Yu (not really kill, kill but probably will do something to his soul, considering there are laws against murder you know) when good citizen Zhou Jia Yu wakes up in this body, but because he has come back from the dead, his body and soul is considered an extremely yin (cold) body, which allows him to attract more bad spirits and energy, giving him an extraordinary, gifted ability to excel in the fengshui line. Of course, being the master that he is, Lin Zhu Shui also realizes that this Zhou Jia Yu (and his soul, in particular) is not the one he caught, and as he has an extremely yang (hot) body, the both of them are compatible with each other. Lin Zhuo Shui realizes that he can train Zho Jia Yu and then takes him on as his disciple.
Cue Zhou Jia Yu being tossed into a dangerous fengshui competition as he figures out just what Ji Ba wants him to do about Lin Zhu Shui. In the meanwhile, he falls in love with amazingly handsome, cool and aloof Lin Zhu Shui (who threatens to murder him if he doesn’t come out first in the competition), who keeps him warm when he gets unbearably cold due to his body condition. They also have to deal with an evil person working behind the scenes, and how Zhou Jia Yu eventually returns back into his own body at the end.

Novel (Online) | Novel (Print) - Dec 2020 Print | Novel Translations
Characters:
Tumblr media
1. 周嘉鱼 Zhou Jia Yu (third from right) - A really cute government office worker whose soul was pulled into a conman’s body, who has the same name as he, when he got into a car accident. Has an extremely yin (cold) body which attracts spirits (good and bad), and allows him to see, smell or hear them more clearly than everyone else except for Lin Zhu Shui. He cooks extremely well too and is considered a treasure in the household by Lin Zhu Shui’s other disciples because none of them can cook for shit. They don’t initially know that this Zhou Jia Yu is not conman Zhou Jia Yu, although they suspect it, and once they fall in love with his cooking no one doubts him anymore HAHAHA.
He gets a feng shui tattoo personally done by Lin Zhu Shui who already knows that his soul was switched, a tattoo which is supposed to help him in feng shui matters. Gets a paper doll son halfway through the story, who he calls Xiao Zhi (little paper), which calls him Dad (and calls Lin Zhu Shui Big Dad - da baba) ;-; It’s the cutest shit ever.
There’s a mystical creature in the back of his head that speaks to him and helps him out on certain feng shui things, and helps him to explain what he’s seeing, but aside from telling Jia Yu that he’s supposed to save Lin Zhu Shui, the mystical bird thing is unable to tell him anything else. Within a few weeks of him waking up in this body, he’s sent by Lin Zhu Shui on an international feng shui competition without having any sort of basic knowledge, only innate talent, much to his panic XD As Lin Zhu Shui continues to protect him, teach him and tease/smile at him, Jia Yu, who is certified gay af, falls totally in love with the seemingly aloof and strict feng shui master.
They probably would have continued like this if not for Jia Yu’s body deteriorating because his body is technically not his and not compatible with his soul, and Lin Zhu Shui tries to find a way to save him, after seeing the future where Jia Yu’s body is rotting as he dies slowly over months and begging Lin Zhu Shui to kill him and let him die.
2. 林逐水 Lin Zhu Shui (third from left, right next to Jia Yu) - Long-haired, wears changshan perpetually and is blind, but can see more clearly than most people. He knows where everyone’s positions are exactly, and can see spirits etc. very well despite being blind. Considered a genius of the feng shui world and is the patriarch of one of the big feng shui families in the world - the Lin family. He’s a master at drawing talismans, carving crystals/gems and feng shui tattooing.
He’s so well-known that everyone wants to be his disciple, everyone wants to get a talisman/crystal/tattoo from him, everyone wants him to come and look at their houses, but he can’t be bothered with most people. He’s also super handsome? So a lot of girls (and guys) are always drooling over him.
He has an extremely yang (hot) body, which is supposed to naturally help to repel spirits and what not, but because of this he suffers a lot in the summer. His body condition is very rare and when he was younger, others said he would not live past 18 years old, and his parents gave up their lives to change his fate so he would survive. The feng shui master also predicted that Lin Zhu Shui would experience another calamity when he was 30 (thereabout), and that year, thankfully he has Jia Yu as his entire house caught on fire in the summer while he was in it (and cooling talismans and the house item placements meant to keep the house entirely cool in the summer were no longer working). Jia Yu helped him to cool down with his incredibly yin body.
Knows right off the bat that this is a different Jia Yu, and starts teaching him as one of his disciples. Can only eat the food hat Jia Yu cooks because his yin qualities transfer to the food he cooks as well, and Lin Zhu Shui usually cannot eat anything else that’s cooked outside. Gives Jia Yu a carved jade pendant he made himself that’s apparently worth thousands of dollars to keep him safe, and is a dumbass when it comes to confessing to Jia Yu hahahaha (although he’s successful at the end!)
3. 沈一穷 Shen Yi Qiong (second from right, dark skin tone) - Lin Zhu Shui’s youngest disciple and also Jia Yu’s best friend, technically. Brash but smart, and is always thirsting openly after his shifu Lin Zhu Shui, it’s hilarious! He’s a little jealous in the beginning because his shifu is showering Jia Yu with so much attention when he’s only been around for a week etc., but quickly gets used to it and supports Jia Yu. Jia Yu always makes fun of his tanned skin, then makes fun of his singlehood HAHA, while Shen Yi Qiong provides emotional support to Jia Yu, and by emotional support I mean when Jia Yu asks him what will happen to him if he loses the feng shui competition, Shen Yi Qiong pats him on the shoulder and asks him to choose a vase/pot pattern (like a ceramic pot where you put cremated ashes) = shifu will kill him if he loses the competition, so gets Jia Yu to choose a pot he likes so Shen Yi Qiong can help him put his ashes in HAHAHAHA. He is the last one to find a significant other, but the one he finds is like a legendary mystical creature who half deceives him into promising to marry him and then keeps chasing after Shen Yi Qiong so he can marry him XD
4. 林珏 Lin Jue (first from left) - Lin Zhu Shui’s cousin but technically his older sister because she brought him up after his parents died. Spends most of the novel being sad about her past lover who died because of an illness, and is wooed a few years later by a legendary golden dragon.
5. 小纸 Xiao Zhi (that little cute white thing on top of Jia Yu’s head) - A paper doll who’s given to Jia Yu after he helps out at the paper doll village/tribe, and grows up with Jia Yu and Lin Zhu Shui taking care of him. Is the cutest little shit ever, can speak, and calls Jia Yu ‘baba’ and Lin Zhu Shui ‘da baba’ i.e. dad and big dad. Very strong, and can protect Jia Yu very well.
Other Things I Like in the Novel:
Jia Yu basically goes to the feng shui competition and destroys everyone else because he’s just gifted in this aspect - When he wakes up, and in the days leading up to the competition, he doesn’t have a cellphone (Lin Zhu Shui and his disciples live in a remote part of town, a traditional-type house, one with nature) and after he wins the competition, other people want his phone number to contact him and he’s too embarrassed to say that he’s basically too poor to have a phone after rising from the dead, so he bluffs everyone and says “My shifu says that handphone signals and radiation will interfere with advanced feng shui readings so I don’t have one” and LITERALLY half of the feng shui training population gets rid of their phones on that day, gullible af
Everytime Jia Yu runs cold, he has to drink some of Lin Zhu Shui’s blood mixed with water/milk, and the man’s yang blood warms him up immediately
Jia Yu has to deal with four of Lin Zhu Shui’s disciples, all who are really suspicious of him because they think he’s the conman, and Jia Yu doesn’t realize they already know it’s not him until they defend him in front of other people, and he’s so touched
Shen Yi Qiong gets his marriage fortune told during one of the cases by accident. He asks when he’ll get married, and the thing replies “Seven Three” AND HE’S SO DEPRESSED BECAUSE he thinks that it means he’ll only get married when he’s 73. It’s a source of jokes between him, his other shixiongs and Jia Yu, but then towards the end he realizes what it means - His supposed match, a legendary mystical male weasel who’s 73 years old XD
Jia Yu keeps thirsting after Lin Zhu Shui, fully aware that he’s very gay himself, and he’s confessed to while he’s stuck in the haze of a high fever, so he thinks it’s a dream. Lin Zhu Shui doesn’t realize he forgot/thinks it’s a dream and is pissed that he’s rejected HAHAHA and then Lin Jue reminds him to not be a dumbass and confess properly, and so he does so again in an empty amusement park, after summoning evil spirits so they can fly in the air and make a heart shape just for Jia Yu while they’re on the ferris wheel XDDDD

Top 20 BL Couples of 2020
[Personal List]
The year 2020 saw a influx of Boys Love dramas throughout, and introduced several much loved couples. However ultimately it was Thailand that reigned with the masterpiece that is I Told Sunset About You. Not to be outdone the Philippines let loose a flood of BL dramas, with Gameboys and Like In the Movies two top picks of the year. Japan easily won back the hearts of millions with Cherry Magic and Life Senjou no Bokura whilst South Korea jumped on the bandwagon with a string of lovable web-dramas like Mr. Heart and Where Your Eyes Linger. Vietnam brought to the table a different kind of BL drama that was the more violent and action-packed Tien Bromance (and its many spin-offs) and Taiwan stayed on its track of miniseries with Because of You and Craving You. Even China had a BL this year, the low-budget Capture Lover.
To be honest finding twenty was not hard, since I think and this is not an exaggeration there were almost a hundred BL titles in the year. Narrowing that down to twenty was the hard part.

Biography of Liu Yilong (WS097)
So-called Emperor Wen of Song. With a focus on his failed wars and one very unfilial son.
(Interestingly, the "five fingers" detail is not in the Songshu that I could find, but is included in the Nanshi.)
Liang and others installed Yifu's younger brother, the Inspector of Jing province, Yilong, and titled the year Yuanjia [“Inaugural Excellence”]. He dispatched envoy Zhao Daosheng to court with tribute.
2nd Year [425 AD], Xu Xianzhi, Fu Liang, and others returned the government to Yilong. He did not allow it.
3rd Year [426 AD], Yilong trusted the words of his Attendant-at-Centre, Wang Hua, and executed Xianzhi and Fu Liang. He dispatched his general Tan Daoji and others to chastise the Inspector of Jing province, Xie Hui. Hui led a multitude down east, planning to depose Yilong while using chastising Wang Hua as his explanation. He routed Yilong's general Dao Yanzhi. When they heard that Daoji was about to arrive, Hui's multitudes ruptured and scattered. Hui fled to Jiangling, and then brought along his younger brother Dun and others to flee north. When he arrived at Yantou in Anling, he was seized by the Defence Master, Guang Shunzhi, and beheaded at Jianye.
8th Month [18 September – 16 October]. Yilong sent his General Within the Hall, Ji Heng, to court with tribute.
2nd Year of Shenjia [429 AD], he again discarding the General Within the Hall, Sun Hengzhi, to court with tribute.

Soon after he dispatched his General of the Right, Dao Yanzhi, General who Calms the North, Wang Zhongde, and Inspector of Yan province, Zhu Lingxiu, with a navy to enter the He, and the General of Valiant Cavalry, Duan Heng, to rob Hulao. He also dispatched his Inspector of Yu province, Liu Dewu, and General of the Rear, the King of Changsha, Yixin, to reach Pengcheng and be rear support. Dao Yanzhi robbed Que'ao, and divided off an army towards Hulao and Luoyang. Shizu decreed the various armies south of the He to assemble the multitudes and cross north to make him arrogant. Soon after he decreed the General of the Best of the Army, An Jie, and others, to lead a multitude and cross from Mengjin to attack Jinyong. Yilong's General who Establishes the Martial, Du Ji, set out and fled. Thereupon he exploited the victory to advance and attack Hulao. He captured it and beheaded their Inspector of Si Province, Yin Chong. Shusun Jian greatly routed Zhu Lingxiu, and pursued him until Hulu.
4th Year [431 AD], Jie attacked Huatai. Yanzhi, together with Wang Zhongde and others, burnt his ships and cast of his armour, and fled back to Pengcheng. Yilong again dispatched Tan Daoji to relieve Huatai. Shusun Jian and Zhangsun Daosheng struck him. Daoji arrived at Gaoliang Mountain. Jie and others attacked and overcame Huatai, and apprehended his Central Gentleman Assisting Affairs to the Minister over the Masses, Zhu Xiuzhi. Daoji ran and fled to Licheng, and during the night then escaped and turned back. Yilong's Inspector of Qing province, Xiao Sihua, also abandoned the garrison and ran to Pingchang. His stored up grain at Dongyang was burned by the hundred families.
1st Year of Yanhe, 5th Month [14 June – 13 July 432], Yilong again dispatched Zhao Daosheng to court with tribute.

So then falls our ten thousand li Long Wall.

Beginning of Zhenjun [440 AD], Yilong moved his younger brother, the Great General Yikang, to Yuzhang.

12th Month [29 December – 26 January 442], Yilong again dispatched Huang Yannian to court with tribute.
This Year [441 AD], Yilong's Inspector of Liang# province Liu Zhendao's general, Pei Fangming, attacked Yang Nandang. Nandang gave up Chouchi, and took with him his wife and children to come fleeing.
3rd Year [442 AD], Shizu decreed the King of Langye, Sima Chuzhi, and others chastise him. The General who Calms the West, Gu Bi, the General who Pacifies the West, Yuan Ji, and others intercepted Yilong's Inspector of Qin province, Hu Chongzhi, at Zhuo River. They routed and seized him, his remnant multitudes ran to Hanzhong. Yilong installed Nandang's older brother's son Wende as Inspector of Qin province and King of Wudu. He made a defence post at Qielu. Bi and others chastised and pacified him. Yilong thereupon killed Zhendao and Fangming.
5th Year [444 AD], Yilong resumed dispatching envoys to court with tribute.
6th Year [445 AD], his Outer Staff Cavalier Attendant Gentleman Kong Xixian, though talented and learned, was not being employed. The Intendant of Affairs to the Heir-Apparent, Fan Ye, since his family was unrestrained and foul, was scorned by his generation. He, together with Xixian and his nephew Xie Zong, planned to kill Yilong and install his younger brother, the former Great General Yikang. The Governor of Danyang, Xu Zhanzhi reported it. He therefore executed Ye and others, and moved Yikang to Ancheng commandery, with a Steering Clerk to oversee and guard.
7th Year [446 AD], decreed the various armies to plunder Jiyin and Jinxiang and others, seven counties, and also chase away their Qing and Ji provinces people and households, and then turn back. A native of Beidi, Gai Wu, assembled a multitude in rebellion. Yilong used Wu as General who Calms the West and Inspector of Yong province, and ennobled him Duke of Beidi, calculating he would make chaos in Yong province. Decreed the various armies to chastise and pacify him.
Yilong was fond of acting on small plan and inciting the border people. Inside he erected mountain parks. [They?] were endlessly extravagant and extremely beautiful. The labour was put on the hundred families, South of the Jiang suffered from it.
9th Year, 1st Month [20 February – 20 March 448], Yilong dispatched envoys to present peacock.
11th Year, 2nd Month [28 February – 28 March 450], Shizu wished to hunt at Yunmeng, and issued out envoys to inform Yilong that he must not be suspicious or obstructive. Yilong requested to receive the decree. Shizu went on a southern tour. Yilong's border cities shut their gates to resist and defend. Shizu was wroth at them, and therefore attacked Xuanhu. He allotted and dispatched envoys to calm and comfort the surrendered people, those who did not submit he executed and slaughtered. Yilong's Grand Wardens of Runan, Nandun, Ruyang, and Yingchuan all abandoned their cities to run and flee. Yilong's General who Calms the North, the King of Wuling, Jun, dispatched the Army Advisers Liu Taizhi and Zang Zhaozhi, the Generals within the Hall, Yin Huaiyi and Cheng Tianzuo, and others with more than 1 000 cavalry to arrive arrive at Ruyang. The King of Yongchang, Wei, struck and routed them. He beheaded Taizhi and Zhaozhi, and seized Tianzuo and others.
Yilong again dispatched the General who Soothes the Boreal, Wang Xuanmo to lead is Colonel of Infantry and Cavalry to the Heir-Apparent, Shen Qingzhi, and the Consultant Army Adviser to the Garrison Army, Shen Tan, and others, to enter the He. The Inspector of Qing and Ji provinces, Xiao Bin, with his cavalry advanced on both water nad land. Leader of the Guards of the Left to the Heir-Apparent, Zang Zhi controlled the General of Valiant Cavalry, Wang Fanghui, the Marshal who Calms the Man, Liu Kangzu, and the Army Advisor of the Right Army, Liang Tan, to aim for Xu and Luo. The General of the Right and Inspector of Yu province, the King of Nanping, Shuo, […] . The Grand Commandant, the King of Jiangxia, Yigong had authority over the various armies. The Inspector of Liang# and Nanqin provinces, Liu Xiuzhi controlled the General Who Assists the State, Yang Wende, and the General who Proclaims Power, Liu Hongzong towards Qian and Long. The General who Protects the Army, Xiao Sihua managed the Dragon-Prancing General, Du Tan, and the Grand Warden of Jingling, Liu Deyuan, towards Wu Pass. Yilong ordered the kings and nobles, consorts and princesses, and his court gentlemen, shepherds and wardens extending down to wealthy people to fully send out their private riches to help with army expenditure. Gentlemen and commoners resented it. Nanyan, Qing, Ji, Yan, Yu, and San Wu selectively sent out, to match military action. Yang, Nanxu, Yan, and Jiang provinces all divided off one out of four. The Marshal who Establishes Power, Shen Yuanji, hastened to Sidu, and Xiao Bin arrived at Que'ao. Wang Xuanmo dispatched the Army Master Wang Baohui to attack Huatai. The Right Army Xiao Shuo [sic.] dispatched the Army Advisor of the Centre Troops, Liang Tan, and others to advance the army to Xiaosuo.
Shizu decreed the various armies to aid Huatai, and greatly defeated Wang Baohui and others. Wang Xuanmo fled back to Que'ao. Xiao Bin dispatched Shen Tan, together with Liang Tan and Yuan Huzhi, to occupy Liangdang City. Si withdrew back to Lixia. When the Chariot Drove across the He, Liang Tan withdrew and fled to Qijia Mountain. The Chariot Drove to issue out from Huatai, and passed Que'ao. Yilong again dispatched the Inspector of Yong province, the King of Jingling, Dan, to lead his generals Xue Andu, Liu Yuanjing, and others to enter Lushi, and advanced to attack Hongnong. Decreed the Inspector of Luo province, Zhang Shi, led the multitudes to cross over Yao. The Garrison Commander of Pucheng, He Nan, forded the He at Fenglingdui, and the Inspector of Qing province, Du Daosheng reached Wenxiang. Yuanjing withdrew and fled.
11th Month [29 December – 17 January 451], the Chariot Drove from Dong'an Mountain to set out for Xiapi. Yilong's Defence Master of Zoushan and Grand Warden of Luyang [sic] and Yangping, Cui Xieli, surrendered. The King of Chu, Jian, and the Marquis of Nankang, Du Daojun, advanced the army [to] Qingxi, reaching Liujian Defence Post. Yilong's Garrison Army Liu Jun's Army Adviser, Ma Wengong reached Xiaocheng. The Army Master Ji Xuanijng, reach Liucheng. Both were scouting, and on seeing the public army they altogether at the time withdrew and fled.
The King of Yongchang, Ren, attacked Xuanhu, took it, and captured Yilong's defending general, Zhao Huai. He passed by and settled Xiangcheng, routed Weiwu Defence Post, and seized its Defence Master. He advanced to attack Shouyang, stationed troops at Sunshu Ao's house, and plundered Matou and Zhongli commanderies. Yilong dispatched the General of the Left Army, Liu Kangzu, to hurry to Shouyang. He and Ren encountered each other, and Ren greatly routed him. He fully buried his multitudes, beheaded Kangzu, sending his head for display at Shouchun, and captured his generals Hu Shengzhi, Wang Luohan, and others. As for the cut off heads, he had the army soldiers drag them, going around the city three times, and piled them up west of the city, to a height uniform with the city walls. Liu Shuo therefore burned on all four sides the outer walls, huts and houses, fortified the inner walls and firmly defended.
The Chariot Drove to arrive at Xuyi, the Huai, and the Si. Yilong dispatched the General who Assists the State, Zang Zhi to lead the legions to reach Xuyu, [and?] halted the army north of the city. The Six Armies were on the bank to sail across the Huai. Zhi dispatched Marshal Hu Chongzhi and others lead his command to set up a camp upon the mountain. The General who Establishes Power, Mao Xizuo occupied [a?] city before the great bank. Decreed to attack the two armies. Beheaded Chongzhi, Xizuo, and others, the other [cut off] heads numbering several thousands. The multitudes fully hurried into the river and died. The people South of the Huai all surrendered to the various armies.
The King of Gaoliang, Na, set out for Shanyang; the King of Yongchang, Ren, set out from Shouyang for Hengjiang. Everywhere they pass through there were none who did not scatter in the wind [?]. The Chariot Drove to climb upon Guabu, cutting reed and tying rafts, and showing intentions of crossing the Jiang. Yilong was greatly afraid, and wished to flee to Wu or Kuai[ji]. In Jianye, gentlemen and women all shouldered the burdens and stood up [?]. Yilong dispatched Huang Yannian to the Acting Palace. He presented a hundred sacrificial animals, tributed the things of his region, and also requested peace and sought to advance a daughter to the august grandson. Shizu considered a marriage among the legions not decorous, he allowed peace but did not allow marriage.
Earlier, when Yilong wished to dispatch an army to invade the frontier, his subjects Jiang Zhan and Xu Zhanzhi praised his affair, but Yilong's Heir-Apparent Shao, together with Xiao Sihua and Shen Qingzhi, spoke to Yilong, saying:
Formerly, Tan Daoji and Dao Yanzhi had no success and turned around. Now the generals, leaders, and multitude soldiers do not reach to before, [we] cannot take lightly moving troops and armour.
At the time Zhan and others were present, and Yilong made them plan and discuss with Qingzhi. Qingzhi said:
Running a state is like running a family. For ploughing ask a slave, for weaving ask a servant girl. Now [you] wish to attack a state, yet are planning it with a group of pale-faced book students. In what way will the affair be achieved.
Yilong greatly laughed, and thereupon did not take in Qinghzi's words.
Reaching this point, he climbed the tall buildings of Shitou Fort and gazed out, and, with very much a mournful appearance, sighed and said:
If Tan Daoji was here, would it have come to this!
Shao then placed the blame on Jiang and Xu. Yilong said:
It was pulled from my ideas. Do not involve the two people.
1st Year of Zhengping, 1st Month [17 February – 17 March 451], Shizu hosted a banquet at Guabu, and when he had allowed peace and friendship, he decreed to turn around the legions. Those people North of the Jiang who had reverted and surrendered numbered several hundred thousand. Altogether he had overcome Nanyan, Yu, Xu, Yan, Qing, and Ji, six provinces. The amount the army spearhead[s] had killed and plundered could not be fully counted.
At the time Yilong's North of the Jiang was barren and bleak, and within his territory there was disturbances and disorder. Yilong was anxious that Yikang might make chaos, and dispatched envoys to kil him, he buried him with the rites of a marquis. Yilong was ashamed and livid, and resorted to putting the blame on his subordinates. He demoted Yigong to Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers, and Xiao Bin and Wang Xuanmo were both dismissed from their posts.
10th Month [10 November – 8 December], Yilong dispatched his General Sun Gai and others to court with tribute.
1st Year of Xing'an [452 AD, text has “9th Year”], Yilong dispatched the General who Consoles the Army, Xiao Sihua, to lead his general Zhang Yong and others in attacking Que'ao. Decreed the various armies to strike and rout them. Yong and others withdrew and fled. Sihua dispatched the General who Establishes the Martial, Yuan Huzhi, to reach Liang Mountain and confront the army. The Master of Writing Han Mao led cavalry to confront and strike him. Sihua withdrew back to Migou. Yilong again dispatched the Inspector of Yong province, Zang Zhi, towards Yao and Shan; the Inspector of Liang# province, Liu Xiuzhi, and the General who Assists the State, Yang Wende set out for Ziwu. The Inspector of Yu province, Zhangsun Lan, dispatched cavalry to rout them. Jizhi and others only escaped with their lives. Zang Zhi, Liu Yuanjing, Xue Andu, and others reached the Passes, also were continually defeated and fled.
That Year, Yilong's Heir-Apparent Shao and the King of Shixing, Xiuming, had a sorceress, Yan Daoyu, cast a curse on Yilong. The affair came out. Yilong, rankled and abashed, lost himself, and was neglectful in government affairs [?]. He therefore discussed demoting Shao and killing Xiuming. He frequently summoned the Archer-Servant of the Masters of Writing, Xu Zhanshi, the Master of Writing of the Personell Section, Jiang Zhan, the Attendant-at-Centre, Wang Sengchuo, and others to plan and discuss. Sengchuo said:
“One who at the decisive time does not decide, instead receives the trouble.” Indeed, when desiring to cut away affection with righteousness, sketching out minor things is intolerable [?]. Otherwise, [you] readily ought to lay out your innermost feelings like before, without over-much vacillating discussions. [You] cannot make the difficulties give birth to a worries over appearance [?] and be laughed at for a thousand years.
Yilong said:
My Servant can speak of ability to decide great affairs, this one is impossible not to earnestly think thrice about. When Yikang had just died, people said I had not then the Way of compassionate fondness.
Sengchuo again said:
Your Subject fears for the descendants of a thousand years, and tells Your Majesty it is easy to cut away a younger brother, [but] difficult to depose a son.
Yilong fell silent.
Xiuming's mother Pan had favour with Yilong, and Yilong informed her of the plans for deposing and installing. Pan requested a pardon, it was not allowed, and thereupon she informed Xiuming. Xiuming hurried to report to Shao. Shao understood he himself would be deposed, and thereupon at night summoned his left and right company chiefs, Chen Shu'er, and Zhan [Shu'er], fasting leaders Zhang Chaozhi, Ren Jianzhi, and others, controlling more than 2 000 people wearing armour, to guard himself. He also summoned the Leader of Guards of the Left, Yuan Shu, the Central Retainer Yin Zhongsu, and the General of Amassed Crossbows of the Left, Wang Zhengjian, and also shouted for the Senior Clerk of the Left Army, Xiao Bin. Shao said:
The imperial court trusts slander, and [I] will be accused and deposed. After inner examination [find I] have not transgressed, and, unable to accept the injustice, [I] next will enter the halls. You My Servants will surely not be different.
Then all around him made obeisance and announced sympathy. The multitudes were all frightened and did not answer. Yuan Shu after a good long time said:
From old [I] have had nothing of this kind, but have wished to apply good thoughts.
Shao was so angry he changed colour, and so left and right everyone stated they would humbly listen to his commands and directions. Next daybreak they beheaded Shu.
Shao defended the Wanchun Gate, and then announced to those at the gate, saying:
I have received a directive to enter and make arrests. [You] can help me supervise the rear company and order them to make haste.
Shao also faked directives from Yilong stating:
Lu Xiu plans rebellion. You next [?] can defend the barriers. Bring along troops to enter and chastise.
For that reason the officers and men trusted him.
Chaozhi and others led more than ten people to run through the Yunlong Gate, pull out their blades, and head directly to ascend the Hanzhang Hall. Yilong at night had withdrawn from people with Xu Zhanzhi for idle talk, and at the time had still not yet finished. The gate doors equally were without attendant guards. Yilong, hard pressed, used an armrest to shield himself. The troops' blades crisscrossed down and five fingers fell off. Chaozhi chopped down Yilong, Xu Zhanzhi was murdered by the disorderly troops. Shao separately dispatched ambushers on Jiang Zhanzhi, and beheaded him. Xiuming at the time was at the western provincial headquarters, he came to station within the hall. Shao also sent troops to kill Xiuming's mother.
Next day, Shao ascended the hall and accepted the imperial seal and ribbon. He sent down a document which said:
Xu Zhanzhi and Jiang Zhan's murderous treason is indescribable. I guided troops to enter the halls, but there was already nothing to do. Calling out in chagrin and collapsing with heartache, heart and liver are smashed and cracked. Now the criminals have been obtained, and the prime fiends overcome and ended. The divined generations and numinous benedictions are forever appreciated without end. Thinking of it extending here with the myriad millions to once more begin, there can be a great amnesty under Heaven, and change the 30th Year of Yuanjia to be the 1st Year of Taichu [“Grand Beginnings”].

this one was so fun! the number of choices omg I was spoiled and I took so long to decide which to go with lol. I don’t really know what this monstrosity is??? I just picked these for the pinks/ muted reds and greens

but my irl aesthetic is more something like this below. and my dumb gothic-loving ass thought that background was a graveyard and it took me a closer scrutiny to realise it’s a bar... (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)

I don’t know what this one’s called, but I guess it’s something along the lines of recreating a mouse here!
I’m... boring. hanyi’s motto in life, probably: make it black. there are little devil horns but they’re black too so they’re blending in...

You can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to. Put your favourite playlist on shuffle and list the first ten songs then tag ten people! No skipping!
OHO favourite playlist you say........ okay I’ll have to find one of my favourites that has at least 10 songs ahaaa
SHI-KI (Atsushi Suemitsu) - from Shiki (this remains one of my favourite instrumental anime soundtracks to date it’s just so damn atmospheric and good)

Why did Wu and Shu seem to have a significant decrease in the quality of their Generals and officials in the latter days of the Three Kingdoms Era?
They didn't.
The folktales tend to be about the figures of the Sanping and Jian'an eras. Cao Cao, Guan Yu, and the like. There are a handful from the Three Kingdoms who get stories (Deng Ai and Jiang Wei, for example) but not nearly as many as in the previous era. That leads to a very confused perception that the commanders of later years were inferior to those of the earlier times.
There's also the fact that warfare during the Three Kingdoms had lower stakes. During the Sanping and Jian'an years, a single battle could determine the fate of a warlord's entire army. There were many desperate do-or-die battles, which provided more opportunities to display individual heroics.
The battles of the Three Kingdoms were not so desperate. A loss here or there (or even frequent losses) did not put the state in peril. And armies were larger, better organized, and campaigns were better planned. That leaves room for fewer individual actions.
The commanders of the Three Kingdoms were by no means inferior to their predecessors. Off the top of my head, here are some people who are comparable to those Sanping-Jian'an figures when you strip away the folktales.
This list begins with those who became famous during the Three Kingdoms proper; after 220. Some were active before then, but this is when they became significant. It excludes, to some extent, figures who only became famous after Jin's conquest of Wu in 280.
Xiahou Shang, Xiahou Xuan, Jia Kui, Fu Jia, Chen Tai, Gao Rou, Guo Huai, Wang Ji, Wang Ling< Guanqiu Jian, Deng Ai, Zhong Hui, Dong Yun, Chen Zhi, Li Yan, Huo Yi, Xiang Lang, Qian Zhou, Li Hui, Ma Zhong, Wang Ping, Zhang Ni, Jiang Wan, Fei YiGu Tan, Pan Zhang, Ding Feng, Zhu Ran, Shi Ji, Lu Ju, Zhu Yi, Zhu Ju, Lu Kang, He Qi, Quan Zong, Lu Dai, Pan Jun, Zhuge Ke, Teng Yin, Sima Yi, Sima Shi, Sima Zhao, Sima Yan, Zheng Chong, He Zeng, Shi Bao, Yang Hu, Du Yu, Chen Qian, Pei Xiu, Wei Guan, Zhang Hua, Sima Fu, Sima Wang, Sima Jun, Sima Zhou, Xun Yi, Xun Xu, Jia Chong, Wang Hun, Wang Jun, tang Bin, Shan Tao, Wang Rong
There are no doubt many who I am forgetting to mention because this is just shooting from the hip.
