Poorna Jagannathan says Bollywood “said goodbye to me, and then the phone hasn’t been [ringing]”
Poorna Jagannathan has made a great name for herself in Hollywood. She will be soon seen in the concluding season of Never Have I Ever. In a recent interview, she opened up about her career in India and how she was bidden a farewell after Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani which was her last film in Bollywood.
The actress also talked about the film completing 10 years and how she did not get many offers after the completion of the film. when asked why she wasn’t seen in Bollywood much, the actress said, "Yeah, I know. It’s been 10 years of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. I mean, literally, Bollywood hasn’t come calling. It said goodbye to me, and then the phone hasn’t been [ringing].”
she spilled a lot of beans about the movie and said, "Yes, we were on a boat. We were filming on a boat. It’s in France. There’s limited time on the boat. Like they’re not sure you need three more hours. We’ll give him like, it’s limited time. The script is not written. They are writing the script on the boat. It’s like in Hindi and I need time with Hindi. My mother tongue is Tamil, not even Hindi. They’re just like [trying to write]. It was so funny… I was with Ranbir (Kapoor) that day. It was so funny and so scary. And, you know, Ayan is just writing, as we go along, it was so typically Bollywood and then I remember meeting Ayan at the beginning. He’s like, listen, ‘I haven’t written the end’. Like he has gotten the money. He’s got financing. The locations are closed. We’re filming. He’s like, ‘I haven’t written the end. I was like, how is this working? Or just come together and then it turned out to be the highest-grossing movie in history. That’s incredible."
The movie completed its one decade of release last week and director Ayan Mukherjee took to Instagram the pictures from the reunion party of the film. he wrote "Last night (red heart emoji)” as he posted the picture which showcases, Ranbir, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapor, Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Pritam, and Manish Malhotra among others.

नक्सलवाद से निपटने में सीआरपीएफ की भूमिका की अमित शाह ने की तारीफ, कहा- लड़ाई अब अंतिम चरण में | Amit Shah praises the CRPF's role in fighting naxalism and claims the battle is now in its concluding stages;

Mayurkola has been in the news since July 28. Speaking to reporters that day, Asha Lakra, a Bharatiya Janata Party politician and member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, listed it as one of the nine panchayats in Sahibganj where a total of ten Adivasi women elected representatives were married to “Bangladeshi infiltrators, Rohingya Muslims”.
While Lakra did not name any of the women, she did mention the posts they held – eight mukhiyas, including of Mayurkola, one panchayat samiti member and a zilla parishad chairperson.
Lakra was echoing what her party colleague and member of parliament, Nishikant Dubey, had said on the floor of the Lok Sabha. In his speech on July 25, Dubey had alleged that “Bangladeshi infiltrators” were marrying Adivasi women to grab their land and property, and to use them as proxies to gain power in the Santhal Pargana, the northeastern region of Jharkhand, traditionally home to the Santal Adivasi community. Dubey had claimed, without evidence, that 100 Adivasi women mukhiyas were married to Muslims.
His claims, meanwhile, echoed what Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said at a meeting of the BJP’s Jharkhand unit on July 20. Shah alleged that “thousands of infiltrators” were marrying Adivasi women to “obtain certificates and buy land”. Labelling this as “love jihad and land jihad”, the home minister claimed this was leading to changes in the demographic of the state.
Scroll travelled to Sahibganj to investigate the claims emanating from the highest rungs of India’s ruling party. Since Lakra was the only BJP leader who had cited specific evidence in support of her contentions, we used her list of nine panchayats as a starting point.
Scroll found that in four of the 10 cases, Lakra’s claims of Adivasi women being married to Muslim men were outright false. Three of the women had Adivasi husbands. The fourth, Kapra Tudu, had married outside the Adivasi community, but her husband, Nitin Saha, is Hindu, not Muslim.
In six cases, where Adivasi women panchayat leaders were indeed married to Muslims, all of them told us they had married out of choice. “The Indian constitution gives us the freedom to marry whom we please,” one of them said.
Lakra’s claim that the men who married these women had done so to take over their land rings hollow in light of the fact that none of the women had inherited any familial land.

[ad_1] Paromita Das GG News Bureau New Delhi, 11th Dec. The Congress party, once heralded as the backbone of Indian democracy, finds itself grappling with a profound challenge—maintaining political momentum after its encouraging performance in the Lok Sabha elections. The near-doubling of its seats in the national polls and the achievement of the Leader of the Opposition position represented a glimmer of resurgence for the party. It signaled an ability to counter the BJP’s formidable dominance and reclaim its status as a principal opposition force. Yet, the optimism birthed from these achievements has been eroded by subsequent state-level defeats in Maharashtra and Haryana, exposing cracks in the party’s electoral machinery and strategic vision. The Lok Sabha elections showcased a party that seemed poised for revival under the assertive leadership of Rahul Gandhi. The reduced majority of the BJP presented an opportunity for the Congress to reframe Indian politics, focusing on governance as a moral and ideological contest. Its messaging resonated with significant sections of the electorate, allowing the party to position itself as a counterweight to the BJP’s polarizing narrative. However, the success achieved at the national level has not translated into consistent regional victories. In Maharashtra, despite being part of a strong coalition, the Congress failed to match the ruling alliance’s welfare initiatives, which effectively reached women and marginalized groups. The inability to communicate a credible alternative undermined the Congress’s appeal. Additionally, leadership weaknesses and coordination issues with allies compounded its electoral woes, leaving the party outmaneuvered. In Haryana, the story was equally disheartening. Anti-incumbency sentiments were palpable, and yet the Congress failed to capitalize on this discontent. Internal rivalries and organizational mismanagement hindered the party’s ability to consolidate its voter base, resulting in another critical defeat. These setbacks are not merely isolated state-level failures but indicators of deeper structural and strategic flaws. They challenge the Congress’s capacity to build on national-level gains and exert its leadership within the India Bloc. The implications of these defeats stretch far beyond immediate electoral losses. The Congress, as the largest constituent of the India Bloc, bears the responsibility of steering the opposition alliance against the BJP. However, its inability to perform consistently risks diminishing its influence. Allies’ recent successes in Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir have further underscored the Congress’s struggles, raising questions about whether it can command the credibility and authority needed to lead the bloc. Moving forward, the Congress faces crucial tests that will determine its future relevance. Parliamentary floor management, coupled with the strategy for upcoming state elections, will be pivotal in shaping its trajectory. To regain its footing, the party must prioritize a comprehensive overhaul of its approach. Strengthening regional leadership, fostering grassroots connections, and addressing systemic issues that resonate with key voter groups—particularly women and rural communities—must become central to its agenda. Additionally, the Congress must focus on rebuilding trust and synergy with its allies to ensure cohesive action during elections. The party’s setbacks serve as a reminder of the complexities of India’s political landscape. While its Lok Sabha performance reaffirmed its importance, the recent losses highlight the need for adaptability and strategic clarity. Without significant reforms, the Congress risks losing its position not only as a leading opposition force but also as a unifying entity within the India Bloc. Failure to address these challenges could leave the party vulnerable, overshadowed by its own allies and unable to fulfill its aspirations of leading the opposition coalition effectively. The Congress stands at a crossroads.
It has shown flashes of its potential to reclaim relevance but must now prove its mettle through decisive action. If it can learn from its setbacks and adapt to the evolving political terrain, it may yet secure its place as a formidable challenger in India’s democracy. Otherwise, its resurgence will remain a fleeting moment in the annals of history, overshadowed by missed opportunities and unfulfilled promises.   The post Congress at the Crossroads: From Optimism to Setbacks appeared first on Global Governance News- Asia's First Bilingual News portal for Global News and Updates.
